Skald was genuinely thankful she was able to remove leo from that situation; people that were not used to dealing with media or the coverage they wanted would often panic or do something rash. She wasn’t willing to put him into that position and have his rehabilitation take a hit. Feeling him huddle against her she could tell that he wasn’t exactly enjoying the situation as a whole. Seeing him look at her like that all she could do was give a cheerful smile.
”I’ll be right back leo don’t worry.”
The park thankfully was quiet and once he was seated skald zipped off. She knew of a few icecream places nearby and would return with two cones, one for her and one for him. If he didn’t like the flavor or didn’t feel up for it that was fine too. She’d take a seat next to him and offer one of the cones.
”Sorry about that. I deal with them on such a regular basis I didn’t think about them. Next meet up we have maybe somewhere much less public.”
She couldn’t help but want to apologize to him; if it wasn’t for her… well. Fame to a degree he wouldn’t have had to deal with that at all. Sometimes success was good, othertimes it hurt situations like these.

Skald’s ear twitched a little bit as the other stated that they were being watched. She always felt eyes on her so maybe this was one of those times that she hadn’t noticed it quick enough. She’d cock her head to one side and at the mention of her not picking up the scent…
”Unfortunately because the city stinks it’s really hard to get a read on any scent unless you spend a lot of time in one place. As for that…”
There was a soft crackle of lightning along one of her arms, harmless but naturally playful the little bit of lighting would dance away from the two of them as the other grew more defensive. She knew how his quirk worked but she made sure her lightning was a little… darker than usual. Something that took visible effort to do.
The bombardment of flashes caused the fox to blink slowly and she’d sigh somewhat. Ah yeah, reporters or paparazzi. She was masterful at handling their questions, answering them crackfire one after another; literally no issue until she noted that Leo shrank away from them and her icy blue eyes flicked from the reporters to her charge. Without much of a word she’d hoist leo up; knowing that the two of them had broken that personal boundary with him tugging her along.
”sorry but he won’t be answering any questions, his rehabilitation is going well and you are encouraged if you have questions pertaining to him to request it at the local police stations or the primary agency handling his care.”
Given that she was the one that was going to be handling it primarily this was the nice way of her telling them to go away… But to add to that? She was gone in a flash, with their back to a wall more or less she simply just ran up the side of the nearby wall. Skidding to a stop near the top before zooming off across the rooftops.
”Sorry I didn’t ask, but I did say the park; I’ll getcha that ice-cream too~”
She’d smile a little bit, it seemed as though she didn’t struggle at lifting the other what-so-ever but that could be a dozen of different reasons there! Give or take five minutes the both of them would skid to a halt outside of the park where she’d set him down and exhale softly. She already had some jerky in hand and if leo wanted there was a link offered for him too!

She wasn’t familiar with every single hero, but the two that came after her she had heard a little about. Apparel was someone that could to the best knowledge that she had turn into pieces of apparel. That was the extent of her knowledge regarding her and pretender she had a vague understanding of their quirk as well. Her information regarding the other heroes was not… the best in terms of in-depth break downs.
”Good to meet you, yeah I’m Maelstrom.”
She’d give the clothing hero a small smile and return that little wave. Not bothered at all about the fact they were taking a cookie; it was after all the reason she brought them! With mochi coming over and making the gestures skald chuckled and slid one of the platters her way…
”I’ll admit I’m not the most familiar with many heroes, freelance work and having to manage everything limits it when even that is left wanting.”
Her lack of collaborations or team ups made it really difficult for her to establish more than simple responses on her patrol routes. But knowing that she could call Dauntless Kano would make things very easy.
”I’ll keep that in mind. Ya’ll can just call me Skald then. Less of a mouthful. As for the clothes uh… well. I wasn’t sure if I should come dressed to impress or just chill.”
The question regarding her own career was met with a moment that left skald unfortunately sighing and sagging her shoulders a little bit. Bright and optimistic but she was also realistic to a degree.
”I’m left to responding rather than preventive measures. My patrols are often limiting and damage control; I can only run so fast to the point of where things are happening and while the media coverage has been positive… Some people have been questioning why I’m not on scene immediately. Otherwise? Crime in my strip has been somewhat lower than usual especially after some assistance from some old blood.”

Skald was beyond impressed that the older hero was willing to put himself in harms way like this. She knew that as you entered your later years that things became far more difficult. Especially in this line of work; reflexes and muscle mass might take a hit but the experience and knowledge of ones body would prevail no? But she couldn’t help but wince a little bit as Leonid met the pavement, taking a knee and well… Thankfully directing the excavator away from her and down the street a bit. Though she was concerned about seeing how hard his leg had gone to ground.
Her lightning on the other hand would slam into the villain and she got to see him tumble down the road. She felt a little bit of pride in her work even if it was forced to resort to… force. She felt like they could have talked this over and she’d glance back at the older hero; shooting them a smile as she trotted towards the villain. She had some restraints she could put on his wrists for the mean time.
She’d pin the villain to the ground with a foot, handling him somewhat gently but firmly. The cuffs she had weren’t the most impressive but they’d do in keeping his arms locked against his body while they waited for the clean up crew. Keeping the villain locked to one of the light posts nearby she’d shake her head.
”You literally would be the king of construction but instead you chose to dig deep into villainy. You could have built up instead of down bud.”
She’d smile sadly and shake her head again.
”But that’s something for later yeah?”
She’d shrug and pad back to the other hero, seeing that he was still on that one knee she’d lean this way and that. Looking somewhat concerned and biting her lip the younger hero wondered if she could actually help the other at all or if it was better to wait for the ambulance and officers to get here…
”I’ve got some painkillers for up until the ambulance gets here, unless you’d prefer me grab a first aid kit or something… Thanks for the help sir. I’m not sure if I could have launched that without you.”

”Not all. Though some admittedly do have their heads very far up their rears.”
Skald snorted a little bit as they trotted along; she was more inviting the idea to stretch his theoretical limbs. Knowing that having your quirk suppressed was so ungodly uncomfortable. Flicking her ears she’d turn to stare at Leo; her smile that followed had lost none of the warmth that she held earlier.
”It’s neither, if you really want to ruin your chances at a life where people don’t think you’re a villain or call you ‘little devil’ you could do that for sure. I wouldn’t hold it against you. As for the fight… ”
She’d continue along stretching a little bit; she felt a crack and she’d let out a soft sigh. She had grown a bit since their fight sure, but she also knew that the two of them had different outlooks on life. So they’d grow differently. She wasn’t wanting to fight him anyways. Feeling her hand grasped by the other she’d blink and would go along with Leo into the back alleys.
”Not feelin it?”
There was genuine concern in her voice and she’d pad along with him; she’d let him steer where they went. His comfort was paramount after all!

Skald knew that the program needed some work, it was young. Underfunded and horribly needed attention from every angle. But it’s because of those things that something like this needed to happen too. She’d tilt her head to one side as she could see that he wasn’t buying what she was saying. Or at the very least he seemed skeptical of her intentions. As transparent she was being.
She knew for a fact she could probably beat his ass again if she needed to; but she wasn’t here for that. No she was here to make sure that he had a good time and that he could see what life was like without things being a problem. Hearing his reasons for having them she’d ponder for a moment and hum.
”Well you’re not a devil or a villain. So how about we go grab that ice cream and then we can go to the park. I’ll take off those inhibitors when we’re there so you can stretch some.”
She remembered having to wear the same inhibitors during some training regimes with the police academy since they wanted to see what she was capable with her quirk and hated the sensation they had on her. She’d motion for him to follow her, padding along and humming a cheerful tune.
”There’s a lot of places around town we could visit. Lots of places with less of a crowd. Don’t worry! Everyone needs time and space. Even people like me.”

Skald could feel the tingling of her electricity across her body, slowly coming into focus on her arms. She could build up a lot of lightning in one place, her lightning did nothing but tickle from time to time based on how much she built. She wasn’t affected by it. Though it’d eventually make her body parts heavy and she’d feel like crap if she expended too much.
”Still couldn’t hurt Sir.”
She’d chuckle; yeah that about fit for what she had heard of the older generation of heroes. Though she did imagine that he was made of tougher and sterner stuff than most. An ear flicked at hearing him suggest that they wrap things up; she’d bob her head in agreement.
”That I am sir. I was hoping to talk him down but…”
The expression she made was that of frustration; she didn’t like having to resort to violence for every instance; she had a kind and gentle heart. Hearing the villain throw out that threat only earned a sigh from her.
”Really digging the hole deeper are we?”
Her weaving motions continued, she could feel the pulsing of her lightning more acutely, the build up was far from subtle. Crackling lightning along her hero outfit, it wasn’t built for it and some parts were actually crumbling off of her arms. Showing the fur underneath. Her expression was that of content and concentration; a surprising mix like she wasn’t really feeling threatened. She practically radiated confidence.
Her icy blue eyes locked onto the full sized excavator that came into view. She noted the older hero wasn’t expecting it and she really was in the same boat. But her motions didn’t cease; if anything they started to increase in tempo ever so slightly.
”Mm… Such wasted talent.”
She sighed again and seeing the heavy piece of equipment start to launch their way. If leonid was going to take care of that well… She’d take care of him. The lightning was more than enough to if she hit with it it’d knock him flat and out cold she figured.
”I’ll do my best sir; glad that you’re here. Can’t think of what I’d do other than dive for cover if he launched that at me solo.”
A chuckle and She felt the lightning build up reach its peak; she could feel every fiber of her body screaming for release. She could feel the drag on her arms and her motions stuttered as she could feel the lightning want out. It wanted out. Let it out. Let. It. Out.
The air around her started to grow, filled with energy and warping slightly before she would raise one hand. It seemed like the air stilled and with a single long motion of where she brought her primary hand forward, pointing directly at the villain. Her other hand had arced naturally over her head and her stance was wide, almost looking as though she had performed a dance move.
The silence, before the loud crack of lightning blasted from her fingertips. She had to be careful to regulate it at such a close distance so it wouldn’t be lethal but with how fast the bolt traveled it was no wonder why she was careful with her quirk. Unregulated use would be deadly. After shooting it off she felt her arms immediately grow sore and the smoking from her arms was apperant as she had practically singed her hero costume. Some portions of it burned a little bit.
Other portions simply ceased to be.
Shifting slightly from where she had been standing before, there was even a bit of the ground that had been scorched. She had funneled extra charge into the ground to make doubly sure that the bolt she had thrown wasn’t lethal. Acting as the generator, grounding and discharge conductor skald was a strange mix of a fox that was for sure!

There were hundreds if not thousands of heroes in the heroing business but none of them seemed to share the same sentiment that skald herself did. None of them felt the need to overtly go about things like this. She had yes without a doubt been the reason he had spent that time in prison. She had done the paperwork quickly and had pushed hard for him to undergo the rehabilitation program. A rarity in the business. She understood the fact that he was likely not happy to see her; the glaring was definitely something she expected too.
”I’m here cause it’s part of the rehab program! The list of heroes that do this is so short that it’s me, another guy and someone that’s stuck in cleveland.”
Skald sighed a little bit at that last one; they had been grounded for quite some time actually! If they were closer she’d probably mess with his hair or check out the tie by looking it over but instead she’d put her hands on her hips and grin ear to ear. Her outfit was clearly meant to instill that she wasn’t a threat to him. She noted that he was wearing the suppressors and tutted softly.
”Fake smiles? Nah none of that, these aren’t fake.”
She’d take both of her pointer fingers, pulling her lips apart and showing that she still had fangs. Teasing in almost a sense and then let out a soft laugh. A genuine laugh with no hate, no malice, no anger. No negative emotion of any kind.
”So! I was thinking grabbing some icecream or maybe a movie, got anything you’d like to do?”
Skald cocked her head to one side, tipping her glasses up so that she could see the other without that red tint that they cast on everything. Her eyes flicked to the quirk suppressors and there was a slight frown.
”They’re still making you wear those?”

One of the few things that skald had learned over her time as a hero and on the beat is that you never turned down help; especially when it came from another professional retired or not. But in the hero business many people were unused to working with others and always wanted the spotlight or had hyper-fixations on certain individuals. So it was not a surprise that not only did the shovel villain practically brush off her presence and focused on Leonid; he pulled another trick out of his sleeve.
Fragments of the shovels? The various tools that she had blasted apart earlier were no where to be seen but the more recent pieces had the villains power still affecting them? Was it a requirement for him to be aware of the tools? Or still in line of sight? How did that work even? Skald’s brow grew quizzical and then concerned.
She’d have to recommend Leonid to see a doctor after this was done, splinters in the face were not something you wanted at all! Her over the top performance to shoot various bolts of lightning at the villain at least yielded some results and Leonid himself was nothing to laugh at. Some older heroes couldn’t hold up anymore and he was just slightly shaking off the rust. She really wished she could have seen him in his prime.
Excavator however wasn’t taken in by the same respect; in fact he was changing jobs from prospecting to undertaking. Or at least attempting to undertake the two heroes. Skald’s lightning danced along her arms as she prepared to blast away the tools coming her way. That large snow shovel was likely going to be a problem with how big it was or that there was a lot of plastic. She didn’t want to think about melting it-
Leonid however had other plans, crashing down in front of her and snapping that snow shovel in two. With the focus of her defense gone, the lightning had no where else to go and skald’s arms pointed to either direction around the other hero.
Yeah that’s right, she was curving the bolts around the other hero to strike at the villain from behind Leonid. She didn’t expect to hit him directly and the bolts weren’t super charged because she frankly wasn’t looking to seriously hurt the villain. Just stun them long enough to cuff them. Though once she discharged her lightning she’d rub at one of her ears, it was ringing just a little bit; more so from the close proximity to the roaring. Sensitive hearing and all that.
”That looks a bit nasty, I’ve got a first aid kit nearby so we can take care of that after this.”
Skald adjusted her stance a little bit, and was able to peer around the other hero. The shovel based villain had already recovered and had already yanked some of his shovels back into the area around him. She’d frown for a moment and then start to gather lightning along her forearms, slowly dragging it and weaving it around in a powerful arc around her. It almost looked like a slow weaving dance with deadly intent.
”This should do the trick…”

Skald watched the pair leave rather quickly upon her arrival, her eyebrows raising slightly and gave a shrug at the fact. She was glad to see her friend after all this time and was happily grinning ear to ear.
”well annoyance aside, it is very good to see you! Yeah it’s been a while hasn’t it?”
Skald padded after her friend and finding that they had their own place reserved the kitsune would get comfortable. Flicking her ears and looking over the menu. When was the last time the two of them had met? Like really?
”...Mm… Good question.”
Skald pondered; it had to have been when she was still a police officer right? THe heroes brows scrunched and she’d think about it. But then with the other bringing up yes it was indeed back when she was an officer. At least seven years. Before her injury? The kitsune adjusted slightly, feeling the scar across her chest itch and she’d lean forward slightly.
”Oh, well erm. I’m not there anymore.”
There was a long pause and then she’d let out a small cough, sitting up straight and adjusting again. How do you explain to someone that you went from being a regular cop to basically a super cop?
”Last I remember it was pretty good, but now I’m doing hero work under the moniker of Maelstrom. Somewhat successful. I more or less had to retire from the force after getting injured. How about you?”
Skald didn’t want to push the fact that she and the police chief fought all the time about her insistence on rehabilitation and being easier on the villains. She had a very sympathetic heart…

Lying was never her strong suit and hiding her emotions was also another thing that was rather difficult. Flicking her ears this way and that she felt her face grow a little red as she heard the sound that Leonid made. Yeah she was going to geek out over someone that was the friggen fore-front of heroing for literal… what? Decades? He practically shaped heroeing as it was! How could she not?
”He’s down at least a dozen shovels now though…”
Experience however would also be partly to blame she felt here. She wasn’t going to sit there and make excuses. She needed to figure out how best to end this situation and also make sure that the villain here wasn’t seriously injured. But with the focus of the Shovel villain now firmly on Leonid… Well.
That left her a little open in terms of what she could do; She was impressed thoroughly by the dexterity of the retired hero and his quick thinking. Double so of the force that he used to practically crack the pavement. She had to imagine what sort of force he had in his prime if he was like this in his sixties.
With lightning charging on her arms the kitsune dashed forward, not wanting to give the villain any time to recover. One hand forward and the other back, she’d bring them together in an over the top motion that had the lightning of each meet at her hands before launching a powerful bolt of lightning at the villain.
Dodge or block, the opening she’d have made was immediately followed through by several weaker blasts of lightning from her tails. Severely weaker than her standard bolts, it would if anything be very distracting. The name of the game was to make the older villain exert themselves too much and be unable to flee properly so she could make an appropriate arrest.
She didn’t have anywhere to be mind you; but she didn’t want the retired hero to pull more weight than he needed to. He was retired for a reason right? Should he even be doing that? Hell should she ask if he had his license? It hardly seemed relevant.
”Well sir I do know several gyms that are actively seeking members that aren’t half bad…”
Teasing? No. Seriously? Very. Did she attend most of them? Absolutely.

Rehabilitation.
It was far more important to her than any other way of dealing with a villain like individual than any other instance. Death was a waste, locking them up was a waste, destroying their lives or restricting their quirk? Also was something she felt was without a doubt absolutely a waste of talent. Individuals with quirks like the one that she had managed to… Save? Could she say that? Were important to her and the community.
She had agreed that while her interactions with the ‘villain’ were going to seem forced since she was the one that arrested them… The other heroes that she had asked to help with his rehabilitation had declined. Stating they had more important things to do. What was more important than saving lives?
Saving this life that had led to villainy?
Of someone that had been always viewed as a monster? She understood that since not everyone liked mutants or held them up to the same regard. She’d look down at her hands for a moment as she trotted along.
She was running slightly late, more so because she didn’t realize how late it was. Arriving on the scene she saw leo from a distance. There was a flash of concern on her face and then she’d raise up her hand calling out his name as she approached.
”Leo~~~! It’s good to see youuuuuuuuuu!”
Her voice cut through the air like a knife through butter, the utter cheer that was in it was so unfathomably genuine that there was no mistaking she was happy to see him and that she wasn’t the sort to just drop him. She was going to make sure that he was well taken care of and as she approached she’d grin wider, popping up her glasses and looking him over.
”You look good! Sleeping okay?”

Skald wasn’t a part of any agency, she had no real connections to the hero world save for a sparse few heroes that she met through various traffics. She knew some faculty to UA for sure but it wasn’t anything that gave her an edge on her competitors. Well. She didn’t consider them that; she more considered them coworkers. She had her own patrols that often overlapped with other heroes. But they didn’t fight over what happened; if anything it pushed them to protect those under their watchful gaze.
Being in the ‘field’ for as long as she had she knew that she needed that to change. So when it came across her small information window that there was a meeting going on… She wanted to attend. So she got herself a bunch of cookies, several gallons of milk and a few plates. Figuring whatever group would probably be hungry.
Walking down the street the very first thing she realized that she was horribly dressed down, not being in her hero uniform… Ontop of also noting that it was a fairly well known agency. That of monarch. Her ears flicked and she’d stare up at the building.
Oh. Of all days to wear my civvies…
She’d push the door open with one of her tails, looking around and probably gaining a few stares while she was at it. Humming to herself she recalled where her information said the meeting was and headed up there! Pushing the door open to the conference room with a cheerful greeting-
”Helllo~”
Only to realize she was the first here, holding several platters of cookies and so much milk a cow would wonder what the hell she was doing with it. The face she was greeted with was no other than Dauntless and for her to be Maelstrom; another name that wasn’t exactly as high up on the list but…
First impressions were rather important and she’d blink, her free tail coming up to push her red tinted glasses up. Taking in the fact yes indeed she was first! Her orange vest scrunched a little bit and she’d adjust, placing the cookies on the meeting table. She felt silly bringing cookies if there were sandwiches, donuts and coffee!
”If I had know there was food prepped I’d of brought something else! Dauntless I presume?”

Skald wasn’t very familiar with the villain she was fighting against; not at all familiar with their quirk or their history. To her it was just another villain that had decided to make a mess of main. She didn’t understand where he came from or what his reasons were but did know that he was dangerous.
It was a lousy downside of her information network being piss poor now that she was no longer a part of the police force. Not that it was that good to begin with but it was definitely a step up from nothing at all. The voice that she heard speak out rang familiar to her. Only after peering up over the car was she gifted with a sight she never thought she’d see.
Leonid.
A retired hero that was at the fore front of their society for a long time. They had retired when she was still on the force and she remembered the surprise from many of the officers at the time. Seeing him knock the villain along the ground skald looked between the two fairly rapidly.
”I don’t believe it…”
Skald found herself mumbling, pulling herself up from behind the car. She never thought in her wildest dreams she’d meet Leonid. Not even for a second did she even think she’d be seeing him in action person to person. If she wasn’t in the middle of doing work she’d probably have asked him for an autograph. Hell sign her hero uniform and all that.
The back and forth between the two made her realize that this villain must have been active during his time as a hero. Meaning that in the years between that he… never changed. There was a sad pang in her heart and skald adjusted her stance. One hand forward, one back, legs slightly apart and spread. The stance was meant to adjust between fighting and running, something she learned herself.
So if he’s been doing this for that long… reflexes might not be the best.
Her ears flicked, she could feel that gaze on her and she’d turn her head slightly. The hood didn’t really get in the way and she’d crack a smile to the older retired hero.
”I don’t mind Sir. He was giving me a bit of trouble but I feel a lot better knowing you’re here.”
She was pleasant, polite, heck even had offered to talk it out with the villain before he arrived but… Knowing that he needed those tools gave skald a target, She’d wait and strike with her lightning to blast apart the various tools the villain had. Preferring to keep her distance for the moment. That and she didn’t want to accidentally hit the retired hero. Or maybe she was just positively stunned he came to this place at this time, while she was here. So she was a little thrown off!

While skald wasn’t a single mother or had to really deal with raising kids of her own she did have many siblings which felt very similar to the struggles of one of her friends that she made on the force. A somewhat older woman about the same age difference as her and her youngest sibling. She still recalled the first day she met Fuyuko and couldn’t help but chuckle as she continued down the street. It wasn’t hard getting to where she needed to go, there wasn’t much in the way restricting her from running as fast as she wanted as long as she kept to the same speed laws as the vehicles right?
The kitsune skidded to a stop right outside of the bar that she and fuyuko had discussed meeting at. She hadn’t been to it before given that she didn’t drink all too much. Maybe it was because of her electricity or the fact a speedster would just work it out of her system but… She’d pop open the door to the bar; her orange vest, white offcolor t-shirt and cargo pants painting a much different picture of her than when she was on the force or doing her hero work.
The red tinted round glasses she wore found themselves in her pockets and she’d look around in the bar for a moment.. Until she saw Fuyuko. Who was standing by two men; one of which was on the ground and the other looked somewhat out of sorts.
”Hey there! Took me a minute to find this place, thought you said second not 31st!”
The two streets were clearly on the other side of town and the kitsune stepped lightly over, eyeing the two men, one after the other before cocking her head to one side.
