Mark nodded, setting a hand on his hip. As much as he hated teaching this stuff, at the very least Elijah was taking it seriously. He knew what needed to be done, and he was receptive. Now, if only he could get out of teaching this sort of stuff on a large scale. Maybe then he could get some peace. He looked at Elijah, a smidge confused. He pointed to the middle of the cylinder, and the cut metal in place. "Extractor. It's not like you'd find on a gun like mine, but they play an important role. Call it a 'soft factor' with a gun. Most people just look at the caliber, speed of the bullet, and how many rounds, but they don't factor in reliability or reload. Gotta remember, each time you fire it's like an explosion going off. That casing expands, making a snug fit into a tight fit. You wanna use your finger to get it out, or potentially mess something up by using a knife?" It was a rhetorical question, but at the very least he was amused. He didn't admit it, but something he clearly liked talking about was how these things worked. Elijah

It wasn't hard to get a kiss out of him. He leaned down to meet her lips, letting her slide in next to him. There was something about Kokoro that really got him going, and he had to get himself in neutral before moving onto the professional part of the job. "A potential one. Believe it or not, villains also need a place to stay or a place to operate. Some firms have even managed to get hold of land on foreign soil. There's a fraud case I've been following, something a bank reported. Figured it couldn't hurt to pay a visit to the source of the complaint." He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a sheet of paper before handing it to her. "I'm gonna want this back, but considerin' I'm askin' for help figured you'd want to know some of the details." If she opened up the sheet she'd be met with several blocks of text of what looked to be legal sounding jargon. The firm in question was called Randosunatchāzu Unlimited, a real estate company that operated in suburban Tokyo and some of the prefectures north of it. On paper it seemed innocuous, but there were a few things circled in the document. A few looked to be locations of interest, but one of them was a name: Nemo Smith. "These places have been marked as sold and supposedly paid for, but when the bank ran the numbers they didn't add up. When questioned, the firm insisted that the bill had been paid. They can't disclose records, so I'm gonna do a little bendin' of the law to get my way." He slid a small leather book her way, looking over at her. "This won't hold up to close scrutiny. All you gotta do is flash this and lemme do most of the talkin'. We're basically gonna dig into their records, make notes of things that seem important or screwy, and follow up at a later date." Kokoro

If Mark was being honest with himself, he hated McDonalds. From the atmosphere to the employees to the food, it was the absolute worst. Granted, this particular one was nice and clean and people cared about the service and the burgers were decent, but there was no personality. That, and these burgers were not as good as ones thrown over an open fire. All of these were evils he had to bear, unfortunately. For once, he was dressed up professionally. Suit, tie, full nine yards. This particular job caught his interest, and as it was the best lead he had he decided to jump on it. And, against all professional standards, he texted Kokoro so that she'd join him. Obviously telling her to dress a tad more professional, using the specific wording: "Pretend you're a fed." He'd keep a few details to himself, but he explained the jist: he wanted a little bit of backup investigating a white collar place nearby. Real estate firm, specifically. There were obviously some risks in doing what he was doing, but he'd swallow them with pride. If things weren't ever going sideways for him, then was he ever truly doing things in Lone Wolf style? Once she arrived he looked her over up and down, smiling. "Damn. Guess I'll have to get all my flirting out of the way before we take the walk over," he says, sitting up. "You want anything? I hate this place, but I can't tell if it's because it's not as awful as the original, or Japan got a better deal than the entire first half of my childhood."Kokoro

Mark decided to tackle things one at a time. "It's a good thing to learn to shoot with both hands. You never know when you need to do left or right handed, but for the record I'm right handed. There's about half an inch difference in my groups between right and left, and normally when using handguns I can cover my groupings with a quarter. It's not easy, but I've drilled enough where I'm competent with either hand. Hold is mostly the same, just reversed. Once you set up muscle memory things become second nature." Firearms training was not much different from any other type of training. Muscle memory, repetition, all of it. The only thing limiting what you could do was your willpower and the amount of rounds you had. Mark was also not about to rebuke Elijah, shrugging a little. "I'm more concerned about your safety and the safety of others. If you don't think your peers are up to the challenge, then that's their problem to work out. Especially if you're speaking from experience." He looked at the gun, indicating it. "Open it up, ensure that it's safe. Last thing you wanna do is set it down knowing there's a round ready to go off." Elijah

"Depends on the gun," he says, shrugging. "Something like a 44 magnum can easily do that. Depending on what you use, at most I'll have you on nine mil." He set his own gun down, looking over at her. How did he explain a concept like that? Consider...consider your muscles like bowstrings, and your bones like a bow. When you draw a bow back, no matter how strong you are you're going to struggle keeping that bow steady. You can achieve high accuracy with it, but you're still introducing high tension into the system." It didn't a lot of sense out loud. He might be a teacher, but he sucked at this. "If you tense up too much, you're introducing those same shakes into your body. A gun is a precision instrument, a tool. An extension of your body. You can't be accurate or consistent if you're shaking due to tension. You know you're too tense if you shake while aiming, if you pull your shots, or struggle to maintain a sight picture." To him shooting was as easy as breathing to him...but what if the student in question was nervous? Oh shit, don't tell him she was getting nervous. He could not handle that, not at all. "You want to keep a level of tension in your hands and arms. Easiest way I know to do that is to keep a firm grip on the gun. Not limp wristing it or having a death grip, but firm. Think of it as...controlling the recoil. The moment you pull the trigger the gun's first instinct is to move backwards. Because of the mechanics of your arm and the physics of levers, it will also want to go up. But you don't want that, you want a good sight picture." He set a hand on her shoulder, giving it a squeeze; a little rough, but to demonstrate a point. "Your arms are connected to your shoulders. Even if you have a rifle in hand, you want to keep these relaxed. Tension here both affects your arms, which are doing the work, and your breathing. Taking a deep breath helps your body reset and relax, and being in a more relaxed state helps with accuracy and consistency." He wanted to add in, Shoot with your mind, not your hand. but that might go over her head. Yanai Yoko

Mark nodded, critiquing Eli's grouping. It was not as small as it could be, but he had to pull back on some as he was not his father and Eli was just starting off. Despite it, he still remembered the words imparted by Nobody: I should be able to cover your group with a dime, y'hear? Just 'cause you can hit a bullseye six times outta ten don't mean you're any better than the guy who can hit the same spot nine times outta ten. The slurred speech still stuck out in his brain. "A good mindset to have," he says, pointing at the shoulder as well as the shot. "That's good, for a first timer. But what alterations did you do in order for your rounds to cover that space?" He turned so that when he drew he'd be able to show Eli what he meant. "Sad fact of life, we can't beat recoil unless you're some kinda terminator. But we can develop muscle memory to get as perfect as possible. You can hold a gun like this, or like this," he says, having his hands how he normally held his gun and then shifting one hand just a tad further up. "Both of the are stable, but even the smallest of adjustments can drastically change your dynamic. There's a lot of different ways to hold a gun safely, but each one could determine a different way of shooting every time. Knowing how you hold yourself is important for consistency." He stowed his gun again, thinking of Iphi. "Recall's a good choice. She's very thorough in her work, so precision and safety will no doubt take precedent. Try not to disparage your classmates too much, though. I'm sure there's a few that might be able to create something safely." He wasn't trying to rebuff Eli, but he also wasn't going to try and change his mind, either. Something he found interesting about UAU was how the school encouraged the hero and support departments to work together. Elijah

Ah. There were many unconventional designs in existence, and the basic principles to Mark remained the same. Mostly. Some designs were more unconventional than others, and proper safe handling was something he'd be useless drilling on. "Part of the reason why I don't like teachin' this kinda stuff. It don't make sense when everything turns unconventional at the drop of a hat."Mark took a half step forward, using his boot to gently prompt Eli to move it back. "You want your stance shoulder wide, helps with stability and recoil. Anything more will just unbalance you, anything less will knock you over. She that slit near the back? That's your rear sight. You line that up with the front post. Usin' those two things is how you get accurate. Consistency is bein' able to get into this position and get a proper sight picture as much as possible. If you ain't hittin' your target good enough, but you're consistent, then you can adjust either your sights or your position enough to hit accurately. Take a few shots, get a feel for it."He stepped back, crossing his arms. "Keeping a gun in your arm that can fire is, in my opinion, a bad idea. Especially if you're not using your other arm. However, I'm not an engineer. Make sure whoever builds it adds in an extra safety or two to prevent misfires. I dunno what you got planned, but so long as you follow at least the other three rules then collateral could be minimized."Elijah

With Ryota going off into the crowd again Mark decided to circle to another part of the bar, a little bit more away from people. He would pop one of the pieces of ice in his mouth, crunching on it as he set the glass on the counter. "Whiskey, neat." With the number of people here, he didn't quite feel like mingling. Even if there was another cowgirl here. And in truth, he still had to give Iphi his pitch, even if he was outsourcing some of the work to someone outside the system. Maybe that thing during Dreamworld was bothering him again. Picking up his glass once more, he took a sip as he thought about it. He was no stranger to rabble rousing, but he couldn't get into it. Maybe it was because there were too many peers here that he felt out of place. Whatever the reason, he'd stay out of the way. "Yeah, well, if the law were followed to the last letter then the people would be oppressed," he says, trying not to get philosophical. He couldn't say if he had ever been called noble, though. Mark wasn't exactly a paragon, just a guy trying to do the right thing. But...well, maybe that was the difference. As she shifted he moved his hands, placing them on her hips. "Sounds like a deal then," he says, giving her a smile as she leaned in. In truth, he didn't know how this would end. It could either be a way of smoothing his own life over, or it could blow up spectacularly in his face. If there was one thing he couldn't put aside, though, it was the fact he loved this kind of danger. Something that his other relationships never had. So when their lips met he couldn't help but pull her in a little closer, a secret that he'd have to take with him to the grave. He was okay with that, though; of all the things he had seen in his life, what was one more secret? Kokoro

He rolled his eyes, at least to the best of his ability. "I'm aware of the taboo, yeah." Something he didn't state too often, especially in front of his peers, was his view of the law. There was the Letter, where every 'i' and every 't' was dotted. No matter who it was, they were subject to the law and any deviancy was to be punished. However, there was the Spirit of the law, something that he preferred to go by; not every act of deviancy was out of malice or rebellion, and each case had to be taken with what was right over what was the law. This was made this newfound relationship (which he was going to ignore) so dangerous. He was aware of the consequences if they got caught. "Regardless what the Association thinks, I'm a guest here. My goal is to find Sean, and anything else I do here is just something to pass the time." He sits up a little, pressing his lips together. "Obviously, I can't do anything like cover up your crimes or run interference. I can try to track down anyone with any time abilities, so long as they aren't one of my students. I don't think it's wise to go back in time to change things, but it's not my place to tell you what to do 'cause I ain't your dad." He takes a breath, letting his hand rest on her thigh. "In return, I want your help tracking down Sean. I have access to some of the best resources in the world, but heroes are constrained by the law. So long as no one ends up dead, any information you can turn out would help."Kokoro

He stopped for a moment, registering her words. "You say that now. I've had many a relationship fail on account of my drive." There was a long list, one that he didn't feel the need to rattle off. As much as she seemed to be committing, he at least had to warn her. Her goal brought him out of it, though. He couldn't help but think just how dangerous it was, but...again, he wasn't an academic. There were a lot of questions he had regarding it, but at the same time they were academic questions. And he was pretty sure something got knocked loose in that fight, creating a slight headache. If he could avoid expending too many thoughts, then he would. Taking a swig from the bottle, he shifted so that she could better get comfortable, taking in a breath before letting it out. "Well, you're not too much older than me. But it is a nice change of pace." He leaned back a little, trying to figure out how to progress. "Considering our placement on the great big board of society, how about we make a deal?" Kokoro

"Well, you know what they say, ladies find scars attractive," he says, letting a smile to cross his face. "Unfortunately, most of mine are psychological. Not as sexy."Seeing as there wasn't any other way to get around he, it was best he just take the plunge. "My brother is responsible for at least sixteen murders. Including our father's." He let out a sigh, closing his eyes. "There were lots of signs. His quirk was...is dangerous. I could go into a lot of detail 'bout our upbringing, but the short version is he wanted the power to change things." He stopped, unsure just how much more he should give. "That lady sounds like she was a selfless woman," he says, continuing the massage lightly. "But going back in time...I feel like there's a lotta movies and stuff that say that's a bad idea." But that was when it hit him: if she was a traveler, and this happened when she was a kid... "I feel like I'm going to get slapped for this, but how old are you again?" Kokoro

Mark winced as she pressed the rag against his face, jerking away momentarily before letting her do what she wanted. It wasn't a big deal, but if he were being honest it was not a bad idea to be something, anything to keep their minds off the conversation. "Something, something, science, something, temporal stuff, something...it's possible something like that exists, maybe..." He reaches over to put a hand on her leg, letting his fingers lightly dig into her. He didn't want to bear down as he knew enough about muscles that doing too much caused more harm than good, but he couldn't help but think that maybe a light massage would help. "If you think this is bad, you shoulda been there the time I got shot." He still had the scar on his left side, where a bullet grazed his lung. It was noticeable and hurt from time to time, but it brought things into context. "I just regret not doing something about it sooner. But I think that means two of us have more in common than we thought. What happened with this traveler that makes you want to go back in time?" It had to be asked. In a manner, he didn't want to ask but he had to. If anything, he knew he would have to spill more of his past to her, in brutal detail. "This pressure ain't too bad, is it?" Kokoro

Mark shrugged, looking around. "I got one with my gun cleaning supplies. Too tired to look, though." It was floating about the apartment somewhere, or maybe even in the car. He didn't seem too concerned with it, though. "Time control. That's a particular quirk to be lookin' for..." His thoughts drifted to a particular student of his, but he dismissed it. Farrin's quirk wasn't going to do what she wanted it to do, he was pretty sure. "Well, we didn't exactly have a great childhood. Our dad was a hero named Nobody, and he was such an asshole that the ancient actor Wayne would have a run for his money." He shook his head. "But Sean...my brother. He didn't have to do what he did. Some messed up stuff. Feds're lookin' for him, but I'm tryin' to beat 'em to the punch." He took a sip of his beer. He didn't want to elaborate further than that, but the explanation probably demanded more details. Something that she would more than likely get out of him by the time the night was over. "How're your legs, by the way? You said they were giving you trouble earlier. Something about your quirk putting a strain on them?" Kokoro
