Ah, yes. Do you ever wish you were born different? "<I don't know any kid that would love to shoot laser beams from their eyes or have the tail of a lizard. I wasn't one of those kids, though.>" It wasn't something he was going to get into. While the smile remained, his thoughts drifted to nights on the road, dealing with his father, the constant changing of schools, and the like. It got old. Back to her quirk, though. If she was showing off those clouds, he had some doubts about her ability to 'jump good'. Unless the clouds aided her in that...but that was speculation on his side. He'd have to witness it in person to make a judgement. "<I can relate to the minimalist thing. Only home I really have is the Caddy, so anything that can't fit in the trunk normally gets donated or trashed once it's reached it's maximum use.>" The steak bits, he had to admit, were pretty good. Had a strange pineapple flavor he wasn't expecting. That said, her question...part of him didn't want to answer, but it'd look weird if he was just living out of the car and using on-campus facilities. "<I got a small apartment while I'm here, though. Someplace to crash after a day's work.>" His eyes flicked over her again, thoughts wandering briefly before he found his focus. "<What do you intend to do for tomorrow night, then?>" Kokoro,

<"Or it could be both,>" he says, taking a sip of water. "<I'm certainly curious what was foretold.~>" He'd pause as their first plates were brought by; his plate had a bunch of steak chunks that he immediately slipped into the grill in the table. As he looked back up the clouds caught his attention, an eyebrow raising. "<Well, that's interesting! I thought you said you could jump higher?>" He set the plate back on the table, grinning at her. "<And like I said, I don't have much control over the quirk. The past is easier to see, the future is muddled, and overall it's just a pain to use the quirk. It's why I don't base any of my work on it.>"He leaned back a little, appraising her. Kokoro was odd. She was quite attractive, but there was also an air of mystery about her...like she was leading him on with one thing and holding others close to her chest. Her jokes about learning more about her quirk, plus the fact she was a traveler and did odd jobs, made him think that there was more to her than what she stated. It was likely, if things escalated, that he'd have to do a brief flip of her memories...though he could only see a short glimpse, perhaps it'd give him some insight. But then again, if he did that, he'd suck out all the fun out of any future interactions. What was the point in that? "<Where are you staying at? Do you have a regular apartment, or just a room for rent for the time being?>" Kokoro,

The river was an obstacle that Mark was not exactly fond of. While he had waded a stream or two in his time, those were always mostly clean. This one...yeah, even if there was a bridge going across he didn't want to risk it. Of course, before he had the opportunity to consider his options the dark energy wrapped around him and pulled him over. "Hey hey hey! Easy! That stuff looks bad, don't let go!" This really did feel like a really bad fever dream, and once they were all clear he'd adjust the Carry and finagle it back into its holster, seeing that it was going to be pretty useless. That being said, with the people suddenly coming out of the water Mark couldn't help but bring his weapon up, preparing for the worst...and the worst was what he was going to have. Mark and Sean had always been confused as twins growing up, and while this man had shaggy hair and a partial beard there was an obvious connection. He had loaded another casing into his arm, the barrel swung out to take aim at him. "What the hell is this?" he says, his voice low and threatening as his eyes flicked towards the unconscious Sadako. "Get your hands up, Sean. Up! You so much as twitch a muscle, I swear to God!" He glanced at the diving suit and with the hatch opened saw Vox. This was just as strange, and something about this whole situation didn't sit right. He remembered seeing Sadako and Vox at the festival, as well as everyone else here. Assuming these were all trapped in this world too then that meant that Sean was here in Tokyo...but they all more or less showed up in the same clothes they were already wearing. Why was Vox in a diving suit? He'd move to try and interpose himself between Kei and Vox, looking at the diver while keeping the barrel of Rifle pointed at Sean. "Recall, if there's something hunting us then we can't be sure any of these people are real. We need to keep moving." There was no evidence to support this, only hunches. Vox's attire and Sean's presence were the only two red flags Mark had, and priorities had to be made. He didn't like the idea of abandoning Sadako, but if she were really trapped in this dreamscape then shouldn't she have dropped in with the rest of them? Fanthes, Iphigenia Pavlina, lonewolf, Kei Hada, Meika Hijiritl;dr: -Gets dragged across the river -Loads up and threatens Sean -Tries to put himself between Kei and Vox -Makes a short case on the importance of moving forward

He shrugged a little, nodding. "<Fair. But something to consider is that quirks are like muscles. I don't get it too much, if I'm being honest, but some eggheads that have three braincells to rub together explain that the more it's used the stronger it can get. Maybe it's something you could look into?>" It was well outside of Mark's understanding, but it was also why students often trained on their own time, too. At least, so he thought. He didn't keep up with them outside of his classes. He tilted his head a little at the offer. He had no intent on using his quirk on her. That was the last thing that either of them needed. But he couldn't help but reach out and take her hand, a few callouses present as he looked down in thought. After a moment or two he made a small laugh, making eye contact with her. "<Pink's a good color on you.~>" He didn't actually know, but following it up with a wink made the sell that much more believable. He'd let her hand go, setting it on the table between them. "<The future is hard. It's possibly because it's constantly being built. It's easier to see the past.>" Kokoro,

He tilted his head a little, smiling in response. "<Hey, jumping good is nothing to scoff at. Who knows if you are stuck in a life-or-death basketball game and everything hinges on what you can do?>" Mark was proof that you didn't need a powerful quirk to be a hero, and the same could be said about his father. While most kids in UAU had potent quirks in some way or another, there were those that also relied more on their wits and what gear they could get their grubby mits on. It was why he tested them as hard as he did; power means nothing if you couldn't use it effectively. "<Best way to describe it is I'm a seer. I have no real control over it, but I can sometimes see events I'm involved in.>" This in particular was not a total lie. He was fairly good at prediction when he needed to be, but all he could really do was see into the past. Even then it wasn't all that far back. "<Gets me with that deja vu feeling whenever I experience it. Not exactly the most helpful thing in the world, especially when you're staring down the barrel of a gun.>" Kokoro,

Mark made a mental note of the behavior; it could point to her paranoia, or maybe she just wasn't a people person. Both were believable. "Retsu? That's an pretty name. What's it mean?" This was more of Mark trying to keep the conversation going, maybe try to ease what tension existed. He wasn't too hopeful, but it was better than just leaving well enough alone. After all, if he was going to attempt to make an arrest he'd have to figure out a way to get them out of this bar and away from other patrons. The text, though...he wondered if she was trying to meet a contact or whatever. "Meeting with a friend? Or got a hot date you're trying to get prepare for?" A playful smirk crossed his face, indicating the drink in front of her. "Not blind, I assume. I've found myself roped into plenty of similar situations that need me to lower my standards." He adjusted himself to better keep the door to his peripheral. If she was meeting someone, he couldn't afford to be blindsided. That...and maybe dig a little to see what information she'd cough up. He wasn't hopeful, though. Bakiri Retsu,

That was something you didn't see everyday. Mark didn't know much about Hada, but those shadows...those were familiar. There was too much happening at once, and not enough time to execute everything at once. He brought his gun up to his lips, locking his teeth around the back of the slide best he could as he reached down and picked up some of the casings. God, all of this was hot! He didn't know where he was, but he really hoped that this wouldn't be permanent. Glancing up at the big hand he ripped part of his shirt and felt along his arm...and upon finding a strange crevice he shoved one of the casings into it. No damn clue if this will work, but something's gotta be done. He brought the barrel up, tilting his head over to try and get a sight picture...or as good of one as he could. He lined up on the hand, right as it started to close it's fingers around Iphi, and fired. The casing flew at speed, but it wasn't what it could have been. All Mark saw was a chunk of the wrist vanish, and the hand beginning to fall to the side. He tried to speak, but his other weapon was doing a good job of making him unintelligible. Taking it in his left hand again he'd start to run, opening his jaw to get everything to work. "Ow! Hot! Let's get going before things really go sideways!" Fanthes, Iphigenia Pavlina, lonewolf, Kei Hada, tl;dr: -Put gun in mouth and picked up casings -Used the Rifle to shoot at the hand -started to run to try and chase Kei

Mark had encountered control freaks like Hasani in the past. Unfortunately, he could easily get away with his actions then due to the fact he could easily get things done by himself and without departments or the feds getting involved. While he had no use of lawyers, they played a role in society. Hero work wasn't one of them, and what Hasani was doing neatly aligned with lawyer work. "I imagine you can recommend a few gigs, given how you look the part," he says, making the comparison to a clown in his head. "I imagine the ring master got sick of your shit and threw you out. Either that or you made too many children cry. Both are believable." He took a few steps in, resting his hands on the back of a chair. "Considering you're ignoring the fact I've told you there's safety concerns, and considering the fact you're worried about 'competence', then I'll make you a deal. You can come out and inspect the equipment for your little audit, cross your T's and dot your eyes, but said equipment has to remain where it's at. And before you get all up in arms, lemme explain: that equipment was browed when there was no No Man's Land. There were a few dings and scrapes in that part of Ground Beta, but nothing too extreme. As of right now, an entire portion of it is torn up as I've been running two to three simulations a day for my classes. Not factoring in the central building on the verge of collapse, the place is rigged with all kinds of traps that could cause the equipment to be damaged if we move it."Mark gave a smile, clearly sarcastic. "It'd be a shame if a lathe got damaged, or a vice was lost if something went off near any of it. I'd certainly be unhappy, as I took on the responsibility to ensure the upkeep on all of it when it was lent to me in the first place. I'd be even unhappier if someone was severely injured on my watch, given it is my training field." Hasani Serna,

Mark wasn't much of an academic, but he did read on occasion. Nothing intensive, but something to keep his brain stimulated during some points of loneliness. While he saw memories as a movie reel, to him the gestalt was like a book. In order to ground himself he always looked at the last page, the last memory, so when he went to the start he'd have a sense of where he was at. Morgana was no different, but the moment he looked it was like a shard of ice was shoved into his brain. His body tensed as the scene unfolded, the fear coursing through him. He tried to shut it off, but that involved moving his hand off their paper and he was frozen. The moment the knife plunged his breath hitched, slumping forward for a moment. The coldness, the emptiness... He sucked in a breath the moment the memory lapsed, yanking his hand back as he made an attempt to process. Different things about it made him question the extent of his quirk...he had spent little time in California, but based on some of the things... Something about this ain't right. To an extent, the only person he had to blame was himself. There was a firebrand he had a fling with in South Dakota that once questioned him why he didn't use it more often to try and find and eliminate as much crime as possible once she learned of his gifts. It was one of the reasons for their split as they had vastly differing philosophies. The fact of the matter is, Mark both did not and could not know everything about a person, and using it carelessly carried consequences. This was such a time. He leaned back in his chair, all color devoid in his face as he covered his mouth. His stomach was churning and the room itself was spinning. He had a witty retort, but it was now gone. His other hand patted his chest, his brain tricked into thinking he actually did get stabbed. "give...Give me a moment..." he mutters. Morgana Moriarty,

Mark didn't exactly have a one-track mind, but he certainly had his motivations for agreeing to this date. As he sipped his water and listened to her he found himself dissecting her words more thoroughly than he anticipated. He had to admit, he was enamored. Unfortunately, she had walked into a trap; he knew she was after something. She might enjoy conversations, but she was actively looking for something. Some one. The question was, who or what? "<Well, I won't deny that I have something to gain here,>" he says, glancing at the waitress came back by to collect their order. Once food was settled he returned his gaze to Kokoro, a smirk on his face. "<I can let you take your guesses on that later, though.>" Another small sip before he set his glass down. "<Cain't say I put too much bearing on college myself. I graduated high school, never pursued anything more. Most academic types frustrate me, don't have any real knowledge of of the field. Think that's why I like UA much as I do, almost every teacher is either active in the field or retired from it.>" He couldn't help but grin after, enjoying the back and forth. "<And I'd be more than willing to show you a few things.~>"Between her traveler statement and her question, he felt he was getting into the weeds of what she was really about. 'Traveler' wasn't exactly a specific job, and it made him suspicious. It could mean anything. Which lead into his dilemma: did he tell her his quirk? Most of the time he kept it to himself, just telling people he was quirkless. However, on a few different levels he felt like if he did that she'd loose interest. "<It's...hard to describe,>" he says, thinking. If he could potentially string her along, maybe she'd let something slip. Kokoro

"As long as we have evidence that this guy has been handling it," Mark says, glancing over at Iphi. "I've got some stuff on me to make a makeshift sling for that, as well as some gloves. This hasn't gone according to plan-""Oh, really?" Sinbad smirks, looking at Mark. "You know neither of you will make it out of here alive, right? Got my boys covering this place front and back." The sound of a hammer being pulled back echoed in the small space with Mark giving him a deadpan look. "I'm being serious. Two inches might not be much, but I promise you you'll miss it." The man's face drained of all color, his back leaning against the booth. "Sorry, the middle of my sentence was interrupting the beginning of his," he says, turning back to Iphi. "To be perfectly honest, was just gonna buy this and go home. Take care of his friends in the morning. Want my other to keep him covered so I can work on this? If he's tipping his hand like this then I've got no choice but to drag him in." If Iphi agreed he'd hand her the Carry, making a small joke about how it's "set to kill" before getting to work on the sling, ensuring his own prints weren't contaminating the weapon any more than he already had. "I appreciate your help in all this. Hopefully next time we can do something more exciting."Iphigenia Pavlina

Celebrity, huh? Mark never considered himself one of those. He's seen the kind of publicity that other heroes have, the same kind that the kids he taught want, and all it can do is stress him out. Sure, he'd be on a gravy train, but what good did it do to sell one's soul for the world? Besides, he wasn't flashy. Most he could do is maybe a few marksman tests, or twirl his gun around. Buuuut, there was no need to correct her, at least for now. Something he liked was letting people think whatever it was they were going to think. If it was dangerous then he'd interfere, but this was relatively harmless. He shrugged, grinning a little. "<Most women don't. I don't like telegraphing that sort of thing, they're always in it for one thing or another. In the States, at least. Can't tell you how scary it is to wake up in the middle of the night handcuffed to your own bed!>" This was a half-truth regarding his own experiences, but he had heard of some wild encounters stopping by different agencies back home. "<College is college,>" he says, thinking a little. "<They still require all the basics like any institution. Math, science, full nine yards. Only difference is the hero department is more intensive on laws and has mock exercises for students. I specialize in urban tracking and situational awareness, and as such have a reputation among the student body.>" An unflattering one at that, but he didn't care. "<So what exactly do you do for work? I take it you're some kind of private investigator?>" It was an upfront question, but he had to know. Her level of travel made him think her skillset aligned almost with his own...one that investigated and tracked people down. Hell, maybe she was a bounty hunter. That'd be interesting in a few different ways. Kokoro,

China? That was interesting. He had a lot of questions about that, but he could save them for later. If he didn't know any better, this lady was almost as well-traveled as he was. "<So far, yeah. This particular case I can't get into, but know that it's been a struggle.>" Maybe that'd be enough to satisfy her for now. Sean was still out there, and with the trail as cold as it was... Mark would pull out a chair for Kokoro, indicating for her to sit. "<Short version, I'm an instructor for UAU. While there are a lot of international kids, everyone in some way, shape, or form need to know Japanese. Besides, I've found it's just one good way to exercise the tongue.~>" He'd throw in a wink in the process before pushing her in, taking a seat opposite of her. "<A lead, huh? I can't imagine that being easy, and it's something I can sympathize with. Especially with a place as big as China.>" A pause. "<That does suggest you found where the trail ended there, at least. Even if it was a dead end.>" That was the problem when tracking particulars down. You think you're onto something, but in all the time and effort to follow things up, spend sleepless nights attempting to extrapolate, only for it to end in failure. Did make him wonder what she was looking for exactly. The waitress would come by, and Mark would order himself some water; something to keep himself hydrated for an extended conversation. Kokoro

He couldn't focus on it, but her hand made him nervous. There was either something about himself that telegraphed his intent to her, or she was just that paranoid about everyone. I guess if every person I ran into was trying to screw me over in some way, shape, or form then I'd be paranoid like her, too. He knew she had an explosive temper, but there wasn't much data elsewhere. In the event things turned to blows and he lived, at the very least he could carry off with some information. "Passin' through. Was helping a friend with some car trouble on this end of town, figured I'd stop in here for a drink." Speaking off, a bottle was set out in front of him, and after giving a gesture of thanks to the bartender he picked it up. "Still new to Tokyo, and I enjoy exploring places I hadn't been yet. How 'bout you?" He gave her a smile, an innocent one at that. Fishing was going to be a little tricky, but so long as he tried not to force anything it should be smooth sailing. "Right, I should mention. Name's John. Doooo you do the shake, or prefer the bow?" He held his hand out halfway, looking a little unsure as any ignorant foreigner would. Bakiri Retsu

As he took point down the street he tilted his head at the change of language. If he was being honest, if it weren't for Dante he'd probably be losing his English skills. Either this lady was one of those that really liked studying other cultures, or she traveled a lot. "<It'd definitely help me keep up. My crash course on the language has created a misunderstanding here or there.>" If he were being honest it was a nice change of pace. And, compared to most other women he's encountered here she was a lot more receptive to his flirting. He'd nod along though, making eye contact as he'd continue. "<Oklahoma, specifically. Or as specific as one can get. I've been all over the Midwest and some of the West Coast. A case brought me out here, but I'm sure you don't want to hear about that.>" A smirk crossed his lips as he shrugged a little, knowing that particular case was as cold as the North Pole. "<Spend more time teaching, anyways.>"The food question did make him think a little as they approached the eatery, one of the local barbeque places. "<I miss barbeque. The kind that's here is good, but I miss the brisket and pulled pork that you might find in a place in the middle of nowhere after you've been driving for five hours to make it to the next city. There's just somethin' about it that make it special to me. But then again, I've barely been out of Tokyo these past twoish years.>" He'd hold the door open for her, letting her in first before following. "<You in Tokyo for a short bit, or for the long haul?>" Kokoro
