She was moments away from texting her little sister Rin for advice. How embarrassing was that?? How the tables had turned.. Sadako had only ever been in love with one person and his name was Felix. She was capable of finding others attractive, sure, but even in all the years they were apart her heart never beat like that for someone else, almost as if she had put a lock on it. Knowing that it could only belong to him. She was foolish, naive, maybe immature? Any other woman her age would have moved on by now, wouldn’t they? So why was she so desperately clinging onto her attachment to him.. She smiled when she noticed him, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she ran up to meet him. “Hi Feli!” The fact that he still called her Saddy made her heart beat faster. There was something about the way he said it, as if hearing his voice say it made her feel like she mattered and was someone special in a sea of endless stars. “So adventurous! ~” she cooed, smiling right back as she put the helmet on. They were older than when they first met in America, but all the things she loved about him were still reflected in his eyes. He wasn’t just the same old Felix, he was somehow more handsome, more stunning and breathtaking than ever before. Hopping onto the bike she slipped her arms around his waist. “Lead the way, Felix!” Felix

Unfortunately Sadako had no such luxury as to be familiar with Shirei. Her speech pattern was notable, but that could be because of some underlying reason, or because she just got blindsided and was now being interviewed by two members of faculty out of nowhere. She kept her attention focused on Shirei, but looked at Hebiru every so often. Especially when she mentioned that healthy schedule that Hebiru had taught her. She moved her hand away from her chin. “That’s odd.” She cupped her coffee cup with both hands. “The reason I’m here is because Airi has been seeing me about her quirk and lately she has been getting more hurt than she did before. To me, that suggests the opposite is happening. That something is causing her to regress, not progress.” She looked over at Hebiru. “Any thoughts, Hebiru-san?” She didn’t just ask her because Hebiru was more well-informed here than she was, but also so she could take a break to drink her coffee while the conversation carried on. “That’ll be impossible.” She chuckled as Iphi nudged her with her elbow. Sadako blushed faintly at Iphi’s cheeky yup. Her crush on Felix had never been a secret. They had been dating before after all, and Sadako was full of regret when they first started uni. She didn’t remember how it happened, but she was pretty sure she got drunk one night when they were first getting to know each other. There she told Iphi her whole sob story and how she left the guy she loved, all the while still loving him. Things only started getting awkward years later when Felix came to Japan and started working at not only Ouros, but UAU too. “So trueee..” she chimed in with a blissful sigh, only opening her eyes to suppress a giggle as Iphi launched into one of her encyclopaedic lectures. She could only imagine what having a mind like hers would be like and she had to admit, she was a little jealous of Iphi’s power. Not because she hated her own chains, no, but any lazy bones like herself could see the value in having an intellect that great. It probably would have made slacking off easier for her. Not Iphi though, nothing could make Iphi slack off. She admired that about her. A drive that could rival even the most fierce shonen protagonist. “Really? It’s that old?” She tilted her head, honestly surprised by this revelation. She grinned back at Iphi as she ‘snapped out of it’ and happily accepted her tea, blowing on the top of it. “Rin? She’s great. We text multiple times a week, she’s been busy moving in at the dorms just like we did once.” She took a sip of her tea but still burnt her tongue a little. “Ow!” She murmured, putting her cup down gently. “She hasn’t been to my office for counselling. She also hasn’t been checked into the infirmary, I checked with Hebiru-san personally.” It was clear that Sadako cared, and was still a bit overprotective. It was hard not to be, she had grown up with Rin and knew how sensitive her sister was. To make matters worse they were pursuing the same career path, and Sadako knew all about how the world would try to make her feel bad for choosing this life, simply because she was a woman. It was something Sadako and most likely Iphi too had both had to persevere in the face of. Rin had a tough life ahead of her. The movie featured a couple of famous actors, some of whom you saw the faces of everywhere, regardless of genre or movie. Of course Sadako even recognized the lesser known actors, being that her quest to scare Iphi had turned her into a bit of a movie buff. She felt a shiver travel up her spine as the spirit in the movie crawled out of a hole in the ceiling. Then, all she could hear was the tense music and the screams from her TV as she pulled the pillow up to cover her face. Was Iphi scared? She couldn’t help but sneak a quick peek. Iphigenia Pavlina

Sadako winced just a little bit as Iphi teased her about work. “P-Plenty as always! Otherwise they wouldn’t call me the Studious Hero.” She giggled with a little wink and a salute. No one called her that. “Love the hat Iphi, I see you’re in the spirit to get spooked too.” If Sadako told some of their coworkers about this side of Iphigenia, there’s a good chance they might not believe her. “Think?” She beamed as she scooped a dvd up from the counter and waved it back and forth gently. “I know! This year horror directors have really been trying out some new things, some things I bet your brilliant mind won’t see coming.” She teased, poking at her own temple with her index finger. “No work talk.” She repeated, softly nodding her head. “Unless it’s really important, feel free to after the movie. If you aren’t scared stiff then that is.” She stuck her tongue out at Iphi. “Really? Felix-kun said that?” She eyed the tea curiously. “Well then we’ll have to try it.” She walked past Iphi to slip the dvd into the player, grabbing the remote before she joined her under the kotatsu and let out a small, relieved sigh. “This is so nice.. I’m always freezing,” she took out her fake vampire teeth. “It’s probably a family thing since we have cold quirks, but I don’t know.” She looked at Iphi and shrugged. “Whoever invented kotatsus have to be a billionaire by now.” She could feel her shoulders and legs relax instantly. “Ready to get scared?” She had grabbed a pillow for her own eyes, but offered Iphi one too with a cheeky grin. Once she hit play on the movie it quickly became apparent what it was about. Spirits. A Japan classic, but the direction in how it was shot was wildly creative and at times absurdist. The light that Ishtar was radiating was bad news. Staying close to her for too long could probably prove just as fatal as getting hit by one of those light beams, at least that was the sense Sadako was getting. “No one in their right mind would sign up for a job just to die.” She smirked, suppressing the cold chills that were traveling down her spine. She squinted as Ishtar shaped some of her light into constructs, her chain severed in an instant as the bladed shield buried itself into the roof. So much for wrangling The White Queen. She had probably been too optimistic thinking she could do that anyway. No, if they wanted to arrest her they would have to wear her down first. Sadako’s eyes widened, as the shield began to move, so did she, but there was no way she was fast enough on her own. She couldn’t completely avoid the blow. Thankfully, Dericho was here too, and the gust of wind he commanded just narrowly helped her avoid a possibly fatal attack. If she had learned anything from observing Ishtar up close, it was that hand to hand was not going to cut it against such a dangerous ability. Remaining at midrange, Sadako conjured up a long chain with her left hand, grabbing ahold of it as she began spinning one end like a flail by rotating her wrist. Picking up speed, she would keep its momentum going before throwing the spinning end of the chain towards Ishtar, trying to bypass her big shields and whip against her back. What was harder than any UAU test? Tougher than any villain you could face while patrolling the streets of Tokyo? If you answered something like tungsten you would be wrong. The answer was scaring Iphi. Not in one of those cheap prank kind of ways either, you know the ones. Jump scares, or other harmful practical pranks. Sadako always hated those. What she didn’t hate was horror movies, something she had shared with Iphi on their first Halloween together in uni. To her shock, Iphi was completely unphased at all that the horror movies had to offer. Even though Sadako was a fan of horror she still got spooked, but Iphi was just next level! Until now. Because this year that was all going to change, this year Sadako had gotten her hands on a new horror flick and while it wasn’t spooky season quite yet, it was an excuse to hang out with Iphi and not talk about work for once. These days that was part of the reason why she held onto their little tradition. Hearing a knock on her door, Sadako beamed. “Coming! ~” she wasn’t nearly as serious as Iphi, but she always felt obligated to be a certain degree of professional at work that she wasn’t at home. Opening the door for Iphi, Sadako’s apartment was decorated with fake Halloween cobwebs near the ceiling and cute paper cut out chibi ghosts haunting her apartment. Of course the lights were turned off too, in favor of lighting the place up with living candles. Some people might think the scaring happens when the movie starts playing, but a veteran like Sadako knew the tension started long before. “Welcome, Iphi! Come in come in!” She grinned, having put in a fake set of plastic vampire teeth, complete with a black cape too. “How was your trip? Oooh! Just put your things on the counter here.” She was already finding bowls to put the snacks in. Iphigenia Pavlina

Sadako smiled and waved back. “Good morning! I’m glad to see you’re so enthusiastic, Riviera-san. Do you want an energy drink? I brought some bottled water too if that’s more your speed.” From a glance his mutations already seemed to live up to the reputation of his quirk. He was small, but probably quick and nimble too, perfect for this little exercise she had planned. Why was she conducting it in the first place? She had a very simple objective. To test him, but also boost his self-confidence! First year students could often end up feeling less than their peers and in her experience often needed a little more encouragement. He was awesome and he deserved to know it. It didn’t matter if he actually believed in himself already either, in that case he was just getting positive affirmation. She couldn’t help but smile seeing such a happy hero hopeful. The confidence in his tone wasn’t lost on her either. “You saw right through me.” She grinned, “A test of your agility and general physique. Don’t worry, this won’t reflect on your grades, but I do encourage you to give it your all.” If he accepted the energy drink or bottle of water she would happily hand it to him. “Any questions before we start?” Kupo

Sadako was observant, attentively listening and above all, patient as Shion spoke. Sometimes it was hard to get students to speak. Some had put up barriers to protect their emotions, either by clamming up or trying to change the subject constantly, but not him. Not Shion. He was surprisingly willing to share, which thankfully made helping him a lot easier. She noted his body language, smiling, had a seemingly healthy relationship with his quirk too. It wasn’t every day she saw someone who could become friends with their quirk like he had. “Indeed, a lot of people past and present have been in a situation that feels similar to how you might be feeling. That doesn’t mean it isn’t uncomfortable, or a little scary. However, some can find comfort in that fact, that despite how big the world is we are never alone with our problems.” She smiled. As he continued she wrote ‘quiet’ on the whiteboard to denote the lack of people back home. “Brown and wood-ish, would you say that makes you feel cozy?” She also wrote wood and brown. Then under school she wrote down the opposites, because of the people it’s a louder place, lots of academic, almost clinically white colors and of course much more rock and a lack of wooden structures. “When do you find it gets quiet here?”Shion Utsui

May Twenty-First was a curious case even for a UAU student. She wasn’t denying her the opportunity for a normal counselling session, May was absolutely going to get that too. However, part of looking after a student’s mental well being also involved assessing their physical health. In short, she wanted to see how May moved. She was a weapon user just like many of the other students in her care, Freja was another one that came to mind. Weapon users were faced with the unique weakness of being prone to getting disarmed, meaning they didn’t just need to be fast and strong, they needed to know how to protect their weapon too. That was exactly why Sadako had called her outside, the talk of their session today would be less formal, but she was always up for lending an ear to May’s troubles and anxieties. Sadako was dressed business casual as usual. It was her work uniform and she was at work after all. “Welcome, May. I’m glad you could make it.” She smiled with her arms behind her back. “How are you feeling? Has our school been treating you okay?” She has shown up dressed for the occasion which was a relief. Some students inevitably got confused when their counsellor request they meet at the training grounds. “You’re probably wondering why I’ve called you out here. The truth is, I want to test your skills a little bit. We’re gonna play a game of keep away.” She grinned, “it’s simple, you have to keep ahold of your bow and I will try to take it from you. Afterwards, we can talk about anything you want to. I figured since the weather is so nice today, we could do it out here?”May Twenty-First

Almost immediately, Sadako could feel something yank at her tie, forcing her to her knees. Was it the White Queen? It couldn't be, earlier when she used her quirk there was a pale light and here? There was no light to be seen. In a moment like this, facing a formidable villain, Sadako had no reason to believe that Amano Ito had somehow gotten up onto this rooftop with them. ''I'm flattered you know my name.'' It wasn't until Ishtar started approaching her that she got a glimpse of the pale light up close. The temperature in the air shifted and Sadako became short of breath in a matter of seconds, sweating bullets just from staring the villain down. Yeah, this White Queen was bad news all right. She was right. Iphi would never have made a mistake like this, but what choice did Sadako have? Let a dangerous villain go so that she could use her powers freely against civilians? Even if it meant certain death, she would rather face her right here and now. She lowered her head momentarily, straining to close her eyes but no matter what all she could see was the eerie pale light. She needed to calm down if she wanted to stand a chance here. All the students... Well, if she did die here surely they would just replace her. She found comfort in the fact that this wasn't a public fight. The fact that all of this was being broadcast was completely unknown to Sadako. Managing a weak smile, she finally turned her head to look up at Ishtar with a hint of defiance. ''You think I came here just to die? You disappoint me, White Queen.'' Another powerful gust of wind, that was her cue. With the drone now hurtling towards Ishtar thanks to Sora's wind, Sadako quickly conjured up a chain and tried to wrap it around Ishtar's ankle, hoping to trip her up or make it harder to avoid the incoming drone. Thankfully Sora's entrance didn't blow her away, and what an entrance too. Her assessment that other heroes had been in the area was fortunately correct. She already knew she wouldn't last two minutes against Ishtar alone. However, with Sora here? He was a talented young man and while she didn't know much about him yet, she did know he was already starting to make waves in Japan. Sadako didn't say a word either. She only looked at Sora for a moment, knowing they would have to team up here and now to face Ishtar. Sonya ChernovnaAmano ItoSora Nakoma

To think Sadako had looked forward to clocking out of work and getting home to her apartment just mere hours ago. Collapse onto her couch and eat some cheap instant ramen while she fell asleep to some boring TV drama, it all seemed so distant now compared to the hellscape that surrounded her. She was about to run in guns, or rather, fists blazing when she saw a lot of criminals and villains gathered in one place, but something was off. What were they gathered here for? Why were they looking up? Pressing up against the side of a building to better hide herself, she found her answer when she followed their gaze and looked up. ''Ishtar?'' She muttered to herself as she looked at the eerie visage on the screen. From the way the crowd was reacting she sounded really important. She felt her blood run cold, was she the instigator? The one who had organized this whole thing? She sure did seem to love the attention she was getting. She noticed the police officer too and quickly started conjuring up a chain, but before she could wrap it around him and drag him to safety, he had practically already been zapped by Ishtar's power. Overcome by anger and grief in that moment, Sadako wiped away a few tears, but quickly tried to collect her thoughts. She needed to face this Ishtar here and now. She couldn't just let her run rampant. It was then that she noticed the drones spinning out of control. Back up? Maybe. What it really was, was a chance. A chance to get close to The White Queen. Sadako wasted no time taking advantage of the chaos as she started into a sprint. Much like Sora, she wasn't a relatively well-known hero and for once her hero costume, a simple suit and tie, was working to her advantage as well. Running up to the building, Sadako conjured up two chains, one in either hand as she began climbing. ''Your idea of play,'' She panted, making her chains disappear as she reached the roof, standing about ten feet behind Ishtar. ''is a bit messed up, don't you think so, your Majesty?'' She smiled, staring the villain down. ''Gleipnir.'' She flashed her hero license briefly. ''I'm going to need you to come with me, White Queen.''Sonya ChernovnaSora Nakoma

Over the chaos that was rapidly unfolding, Sadako swore she could hear someone laugh. Not that she could see anyone having a good time, perhaps it was fate itself? Laughing at her being too weak to take this guy down with one attack. She kept looking towards the poor girl. If she couldn't subdue the playboy easily, at the very least she needed to get her out of harm's way. Before she could hatch her plan to help the poor girl escape however, she felt something wet in her ear that made her flinch and jolt. Was it an attack? She didn't feel any pain, but it was wet and uncomfortable. Did the girl throw that water attack at her again? Maybe she really was in the middle of fighting back against the playboy? Sadako could have believed it if her body language didn't betray her actions. No, there was something else going on here. Not that she had the time to stand around and figure it all out. Letting go of her chains on the playboy, she quickly launched another pair against the girl, wrapping them around her as she forcibly yanked her out of the way, embracing her in a hug as she spun around and put herself between the playboy's incoming fire and the civilian girl. It was the best she could do to ensure she didn't get burnt to a crisp, even if it was at the risk of her own life. ''Take cover!''Amano Ito

Shion's enthusiasm and optimistic outlook was charming, if not downright infectious as she found herself smiling and engaged in their conversation. Paying respect to Toto seemed to have been the right call to make, she was relieved that Shion had such a seemingly healthy relationship to his quirk. A lot of the counseling sessions she had with other students involved just that, quirk problems, so meeting Shion served as a nice reminder as to the nuance that existed within the student body of the school. ''I see! Any broom?'' She asked inquisitively, glancing down at her clipboard for just a moment to scribble down some notes. Just in case Shion scheduled more meetings, she would make sure to always have a broom present in her office, just in case Shion needed a backup. She offered a patient smile as he let out a sigh, a silent way to let him know he had all the time in the world, that he only had to say as much as he wanted to. She had her pen ready to take notes, and immediately understood his plight. Switching to a new home environment, even if you still had your old home to return to, was a tumultuous experience. Then his second point hit, something she had also seen other students bring up. A feeling of guilt from not having to take the entrance exam to prove themselves like most of the other students had. ''Shion-san.'' She started with a smile once he was done, putting her clipboard down. ''What you are feeling is valid and absolutely normal for anyone who comes to this school. If you were to ask among your fellow students, you would find a lot of them share similar feelings, particularly in the first year. Moving into, and studying at UAU is a big step in not just your future career, but your life too. You and Toto are not alone in feeling bad about the way you gained entry to the school. There are many ways people end up here, there is no one right way to become a hero, but every path is equally as valid. Some people prove what they can do in the exams, maybe because it isn't immediately apparent what their potential is.'' There were honestly too many reasons for her to list, but that wasn't the point either. ''But you, you have a lot of potential and a special gift. The school saw something in you that they don't see in many people. Is that unfair?'' She gave a casual shrug. ''Some might think so, but everyone has a fair shot at becoming a hero. Powers alone do not make the hero.'' She smiled and stood up to grab a little whiteboard on wheels, rolling it closer to her desk. ''Let's return to it later. If you don't mind,'' She took out a black marker and wrote 'HOME' on one side of the board and then 'SCHOOL' on the other, before drawing a line down the middle between the two. ''Could you tell me a bit more about your home? What makes it different from UAU?'' As Shion would answer, Sadako would write down keywords pertaining to home or school, seeking to highlight the differences between them in a more visual manner. Oftentimes, the brain ran on autopilot and in a state of stress, could make it hard to focus on ideas or the little things. By writing it out as Shion spoke, Sadako hoped he could get a better overview of what he liked at home vs. what he might find challenging at school. Shion Utsui

Maybe it was just in her mind, but Sadako could have sworn her work days were becoming longer and longer. Whether it was at Ouros or in her office in UAU, there was always something to do, never a dull moment. Sometimes she only had a few minutes to eat her lunch before her next counseling session. Not that she minded, well, the fact that she was so busy just meant that she was also needed. All those UA students, lost or in need of guidance like she had been once. She was glad she was here to make a difference. Even so, she wouldn't mind having to work just a little bit less. The only thing that made it worthwhile aside from the feeling of self-fulfillment the job gave her, was her friends. Namely Iphigenia and Felix. If Sadako didn't have them, she would have gone crazy long ago. No, maybe she had already gone a little crazy. She smiled as she buried her face in her hand and put her pen down. She couldn't stop thinking of Felix. It didn't matter the time, or the occasion. She always found herself thinking about the silliest little things. What was Felix doing right now? Was he enjoying a healthy lunch or did he get cheap takeout like her? How did he look in the mornings before he headed out for work? Still as dreamy as back then? Trick question, of course he did. She had never gotten over him. Over how she could have left him in America. She couldn't count how many times she had wished she had stayed. To even be able to see him all these years later and work with him and get along with him, it was more than she deserved. He was too kind for someone like her. Still, she found herself being hopelessly lovestruck, thinking about him 24/7 like she was a teenager having her first crush. It was embarrassing, but her heart was the warmest it had felt in years, and she had to admit, she liked that feeling. Clocking out for the day, Sadako slipped her bag over her shoulder and locked up the office as she walked towards the UA parking lot. She was going to Felix's day today to learn to cook some Italian food. Something she had looked forward to all day. As she walked out the gate, she sent Felix another quick test to let him know she was done for the day. She didn't care if she had to wait ten minutes or an hour, either way she would hang out in the parking lot until he showed up. Felix

''I see, well that's rather convenient.'' She smiled, taking a small sip from her coffee before letting out a quiet, ''ow!'' As she burned her tongue. Putting a hand up over her lips she looked at Hebiru. ''So she'll be here soon then? That saves us time.'' She put down her cup and helped gather up the notes. When the student finally arrived Sadako turned to look over her shoulder and smiled. ''Good morning Shokuhou-san.'' She bowed her head politely. She seemed like a diligent student. Whenever Airi had talked about her during their sessions, she only had nice words and admiration for Shokuhou Shirei. Sadako also didn't miss how she froze up for a moment, but her smile remained unchanged as usual. ''Sure. For starters, would you like to sit?'' She was ready to offer her own seat, or if there were more chairs in the office she would grab one and set it next to Hebiru's desk. ''I have been told that you and Airi-san are close.'' She started, ''have you noticed her acting any differently lately? Perhaps out of character, doing or saying things she normally might not. This can be during class, lunch or outside of school. Anything you think might seem different about her behavior in the last two weeks.'' She was trying to appear as friendly as possible. Thankfully Sadako wasn't the most naturally intimidating person. Being that she was a rather short woman with little muscle to speak of. It was only those who had seen her in action as Gleipnir who might be startled seeing her power in action. Yanai Hebiru
