Xyu admired the scene before him—an experienced fighter, a hero most likely, fighting off a horde of less-than-prepared criminals. It was an easy bet who would win, but still fascinating to watch. The hero, Lawbringer, clearly had some sort of tough exterior. It wasn’t clear what the specifics were, but Xyu knew he should have been slashed by that knife. Interesting. His fangs wouldn’t work. He chuckled. It wouldn’t be wise to try that anyway.[break][break]
Lawbringer finally noticed Xyu, and he appeared on guard. No surprise there. After all, Xyu was holding the bag everyone was after. He wondered to himself if, perhaps, this was a stupid idea. Some days were made for stupid ideas.[break][break]
“Me?” Xyu replied to Lawbringer. “I’m just a passing civilian. Grabbed the bag for you. Your thief went running off that way,” Xyu pointed in a general direction, giving no indication of the actual route the thief took. “I guess he was clumsy, or scared, or maybe just wanted to repent. But anyway, here.” Xyu extended his arms out holding the bag.[break][break]
“I can tell you’re some sort of hero, maybe a vigilante.” Xyu had long since noted the robotic visor the man wore, but he just now realized something. “Does that have to do with sight or is it something else? And your quirk. You’re quite the formidable fighter, huh?” [break][break]
Xyu, if the bag had already been taken, would walk casually around. His interest was beginning to rise. This man would surely make his day even more exciting. But he had to be careful. If this man were a target, he would be in trouble. But here, on a public street—no one was suspicious of Xyu. At least, not as much as they should have been.

“I did,” Xyu replied, calmly. He took out some bills and put them in the tip jars. Sometimes he forgot the amount of money normal people spent. He got paid to kill, and sometimes that paid really quite well. Though it seemed no one else was tipping all that much. For the first time, he actually paid attention to the other people in the venue. This was an odd place for her to be set up. [break][break]
“I liked your singing.” He paused, letting the words linger. Xyu was usually one to ignore others, but he felt the scales on his head perking up. This was not a fan of the singer. This was someone studying Xyu. Odd. He wasn’t nearly as good a singer. Sure, he may have killed someone recently, but could that really have mattered all that much?[break][break]
“Hey,” he said to the young woman. “I think that guy over there is staring at you. Do you know him?” Xyu asked. Lying came as easily to him as eating mice whole. He knew that man was suspicious of him, but using this singer as a proxy—that was the smart move.

What a wonderful sound, that voice which hovered right above the air. [break][break]
Xyu was wandering around Shibuya for no reason whatsoever. This was how he approached most things—with either zero interest or a dangerous passion. Today was seeming destined to join all the other pointless days, but then he heard it. It was on a street no different from the others, emanating from a place no fancier than the rest. He floated in, as though the voice had formed a cloud underneath him.[break][break]
It was a woman, younger than Xyu, who was singing. He walked past some other patrons, who also seemed entranced by her performance. What was this? Had he ever heard something so elegant? It was when he was most of the way across the room that he noticed something about her. Compared to him, she was very human. But compared to other humans…[break][break]
There was the matter of her eyes. Vertical slits, something many found intimidating. When she vocalized clearly, he could spot the shine of some fangs, and along her shoulders were some scales, though one could mistake them initially for some nouveau fashion statement. Xyu knew better. This was her quirk. Or at least part of it. Perhaps it gave her an excellent voice? [break][break]
He wasn’t going to get answers just standing around. Once she was done singing, he was going to ask her.

What a terrific sight. Much better than he had seen in months. Really, all his prior months faded into nothingness now that he was faced with something of interest. Some criminals—wannabe criminals, but still—and a hero. The whole thing was so beautiful, so unequivocally not boring.[break][break] Xyu heard the man underneath him breathing heavily. Perhaps it was the full weight of another human being on top of him as poison ran through his veins. Xyu flicked his eyes back to the matter at hand. He couldn’t bother to care about anything else right now.[break][break] “But you can call me ‘Lawbringer’…”, said the hero. He was weathered, metallic almost. Tall and strong, but not just that. He was confident. Usually it was hard to tell what someone’s quirk was, and he was no exception. However, it was a certainty that he wasn’t weak. Xyu wasn’t one to care much for people by and large, but it was always nice to see someone different, and this Lawbringer man fit the bill. [break][break] One of the criminals spoke back, and Xyu smirked. Neither had noticed him, which was a pleasant surprise. They were so invested in each other that they had no time to view others. Maybe it was because Xyu was so still. He rested his chin on his hand and cocked his head to the side, letting loose a small chuckle.[break][break] “I gave you all a chance, just remember that when you’re sleeping in a cell tonight.” the Lawbringer threatened. He aimed his rifle at the criminals, who appeared a mixture of angry and worried. Despite their chest-puffing, it was a scary sight to see someone with so little hesitation. Most people were filled with hesitation, from shopping to killing. This man holding the rifle had nearly none. He fired, blasting one of them back, though not severely injuring them. Xyu sighed, his smile fading. This man really was a hero.[break][break] The remaining criminals stood still for a moment—little ants silently communicating with each other about some threat they cannot comprehend. Eventually, like most ants, they marched ahead.[break][break] “Same time!” one of them yelled, who sprouted a horn from his forehead as he prepared to charge at the Lawbringer. Xyu perked up once more—watching such a foolish attempt was bound to result in something unexpected. However, it was beginning to make him feel left out, sitting on some unconscious man.[break][break] He stood up and brushed off his suit. In all the hubbub, the original thief had gone a little…neglected. It was to be expected, of course. The one hero was dealing with four idiots. The thief, Xyu noticed, was just beginning to realize he could just sneak off.[break][break] “Hey,” Xyu hissed, causing the thief to nearly jump from surprise. Something about the surrounding chaos had really done a number on everyone’s eyesight.[break][break] “Wh-who are you?” the thief asked. He gripped the bag with one hand and extended his free arm toward Xyu. “Stay back!”[break][break] Xyu paused. First he tilted his head and hummed, and then he chuckled. “I see. Curious. Why do you want to fight me?”[break][break] “Wha?” the thief replied, dumbfounded. He looked past Xyu, seeing an unconscious man on the ground. “That was one of the guys chasing me! Did you kill him?”[break][break] “I didn’t kill him,” Xyu replied calmly. “He’s sleeping.”[break][break] The thief kept his arm up, though his grip on the bag loosened. “I see. So you’re a hero.”[break][break] Xyu smiled. What a fun assumption. “So what’s in the bag?”[break][break] “Um…” the man replied. “Just my bag. School supplies.”[break][break] “Really? They were all chasing you for school supplies? What awful luck.” Xyu approached slowly, his eyes narrowing.[break][break] “H-hey, I’m not lying. These guys are bad news.” His eyes shifted from Xyu over to the Lawbringer and his battle, but that was the wrong move. Xyu took the brief opportunity to step forward and slither his head past the thief’s arm and deliver a bite. Partially due to preserving his venom, and also because he found it a wiser outcome, he delivered a small dose.[break][break] “Ow! Ahh! My arm!” the thief yelled, dropping the bag onto the bag and immediately grabbing his left arm, which he was unable to move much. In fact, he could hardly press two fingers together.[break][break] As he yelled out in shock, Xyu grabbed his neck and leaned in. “If you want to live, run away. You’ve played your part.”[break][break] The thief’s eyes widened. He hardly needed to think it over. As Xyu watched him sprint away, one arm flopping around, he was reminded of how easily people succumb to fear. In one swift motion, he picked up the bag and approached the group of fighters—Lawbringer and the others. [break][break] With a smile, Xyu held up the bag and called out to them in his best ‘innocent civilian’ voice. “I got the bag! He dropped it and ran away!”

What a terrible day to wake up. Every day, more or less, was the same. Boring, boring, boring. Today, of all days, felt even moreso, if such a thing were possible.[break][break] Xyu rolled out of his hotel bed and stayed on the cool floor for more minutes than was comfortable. Eventually, when he decided it was worth it, he rose to his feet, taking in the slight daylight creeping around the curtains. Some part of him wanted to sunbathe, to relax, and another thought it ridiculous: to do such a thing after he had just awaken. Nothing would be solved that way. Nothing would be fun or exciting.[break][break] So, Xyu went to the bathroom and, with a sigh, threw water across his face. Cold, yes. Annoying, yes. But was it good enough to get him out of the door? It only took another hour of waffling around before the answer was yes.[break][break] Downtown Tokyo, a place sure to be interesting. Of course, he wasn't solely here for that reason. There was the matter of some assassination he was supposed to do at some point, but that hardly mattered. There were places to see, people to meet, experiences to be had! And maybe, just maybe, just one of them would actually strike his fancy. He doubted it, but he always doubted everything.[break][break] Perhaps it was his attire—a suit and tie—or perhaps it was his snake head, but he was getting more looks than usual. Even though he noted it, he was hardly fazed. His approach was simple and consistent—other people hardly mattered. It made things really really easy. Too easy, he sometimes thought. He lowered his head, practically kicking his dress shoes against the pavement like a pouting child.[break][break] Without any reaction on his part, someone ran by him, followed by a group of angry folks. Xyu was too distracted by his own complaining that it was only when one of the angry ones yelled that he even noticed.[break][break] "We're gonna kill you!" one said. Xyu's head perked up. That sounded fun.[break][break] He ran after them, still fast enough to catch up despite his fancy clothes. Without hardly a care, Xyu tripped one of the trailing chasers, causing him to fall hard. Xyu whipped his head down and bit him, causing the man to fall silent for the time being. He sat down on top of him and stared ahead at what appeared to be a standoff.[break][break] The rest of the group didn't even notice their friend go down. They had just cornered the one holding the bag—a man of smaller stature. He didn't even appear old or strong, but it was still the sort of thing to brighten a dreary day, whatever the outcome. Whether or not the person from earlier was really going to murder the guy was uncertain, but it hardly mattered now.[break][break] Xyu smiled, watching. This was fun.

She sighed—this was going to be a mess. [break][break]
—[break][break]
It was 8:02 A.M., metropolitan Tokyo, some half dozen blocks from Shinjuku Station, and it was crowded. The body had been here since nighttime, that’s all she knew. She got the call and was on her way within minutes. The body was huge—the man had the quirk of a rhino, clearly, so it was all the more surprising it took this long for anyone to notice and bother calling the police.[break][break]
Perhaps it was because he was so heavy that the body wasn’t even hidden all that well. Left near a dumpster, not even thrown in. He must have weighed hundreds, perhaps over a thousand pounds, so she couldn’t blame whoever killed him for not doing the dirty work. Behind her, voices started to build and mix together.[break][break]
“God damnit,” she muttered, waving over a uniformed officer. “Why aren’t you guys keeping the lookers at bay? Idiot.” Just as she finished berating him, a bystander ran underneath the police tape and snapped a photo of the body before being grabbed by two officers. Detective Ko sighed and turned away from the crowd. It was much easier to deal with the dead body than all of these people.[break][break]
She knelt down and studied the rhino’s face. The officers had already found his identification: Niju Hon. There weren’t many people with rhino quirks, and apparently this one was somewhat famous. But right now, she was noticing something more curious. She pulled out her recording device—old school, but she preferred it.[break][break]
“Blunt force trauma around the neck and head. Rest of the body seemingly unharmed. Will have to wait for M.E. to confirm. Most likely dead for at least 3 hours, based on bruising. Initial cause of death is—” she paused, kneeling closer to Niju’s very dead, yet very expressive face. “Victim’s mouth is open. Foreign substance seems to be present.”[break][break]
She stood up quickly and backed away from the body. “Hey, you!” she pointed at the nearest uniform. “Take a sample of what’s in his mouth.”[break][break]
“Why?” the officer asked.[break][break]
“It’s poison.”[break][break]
After putting on gloves and a mask, he ran off to follow her orders. It would be crucial to run the tests, but Detective Ko already knew enough. This wasn’t just poison, it was venom. Someone’s quirk had made its way into this rhino, and he had died. All she had to do was figure out exactly who did it, and why.[break][break]
She paced around the scene, talking briefly with the officers, gathering information. All the while, she began to notice the commotion building around the scene. This wasn’t normally the hub of the city, but once people heard of a murder, they decided to see it for themselves. Perhaps they thought of themselves as detectives, or maybe one of them did it.

Xyu would kill a puppy if the puppy was standing in a spot he wanted. He would do anything for any reason as long as his internal calculus determined it benefited him. Once he’s determined such a thing exists, he’ll do it. He’ll do it well. He’s a sharp man with sharp teeth and he if anyone bothers him in any way, they're added to the list. However, things aren’t always so motivated. Sometimes, he has little to do. At those times, he struggles with what he calls an internal venom, ‘boredom’. He has considered that, perhaps, it is this boredom that causes him to become overly passionate about small things. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]APPEARANCE » HEIGHT: 5’10” » WEIGHT: 200’ » EYE COLOR: Black » HAIR COLOR: None » SKIN COLOR: Yellowish/Brownish » FACE CLAIM NAME: OC (once i draw it) » FACE CLAIM SERIES: OC (once i draw it) (Drawing is a WIP) Xyu has the head of a snake and the body of, more or less, a human. His neck is still primarily human but once his torso starts its pretty humanoid. He has arms and legs and no tail. His scales change color with the seasons: a little lighter during the warm months, darker for the cold months. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]HISTORY Xyu grew up torturing small animals for fun. No one made him do it, no one handed him a stick to poke and prod the wounded birds, but he did it anyway. Perhaps it was because he was alone and he wanted something interesting to happen. Whatever it was, he never grew out of it. He attended school as most do. He spoke Mandarin at home with his mother, English at school, and Greek with his father on the rare occasion he saw him. He had some friends who knew very little about him. He thrived in some classes, the more calculating kind, but struggled in writing and history. He went to college, studying mathematics before dropping out. He had lost his motivation. He had lost what little had kept him going this whole time. He was done. Life had not been his to live, and he disconnected for several months, floating in and out of a coherent state. Eventually, Xyu awoke, similar but different, and he realized he did not want to follow anything anymore. Not rules, nor people, nor cultural norms instilled in him by so many. He was just going to be, and he would see what might come of it. And so, Xyu began to kill. It was an odd feeling killing a human for the first time, possibly because it wasn’t odd at all. He stood over the man he had just bitten in the neck and he felt…fine. It wasn’t personal, it was business. It wasn’t great, but at least it wasn’t boring. He hated boring. It’s been years since then, and he has continued to float around the globe, taking up jobs and thinking very little of it. In the back of his mind, there’s a hope he will find some meaning. Something that keeps him stimulated and focused for more than a day at a time. In his journey of highs and lows, he craves consistency, and he has no idea how to get it.
