Diego?! Had he just walked right past her? Was he ignoring her on purpose or had he just been too lost in thought to notice her? He couldn't really blame him, since she had bundled up for fall with a scarf and a long coat, but that was besides the point. If anything, she was in luck. A notorious villain was just walking around like he wasn't wanted by the Heroes Association, and she now had the opportunity to get the jump on him. On the one hand, she wasn't on the job, but on the other she couldn't leave a villain free to roam around like this. Keeping her distance a little bit, she decided to tail him so she could see what kind of evil co-conspirators he would meet up with. A plan to steal all the wares in the store? Maybe he was looking to take hostages, or use the busy day as a distraction of some kind. No... He wasn't dressed up to do anything bad was he? No villain outfit, and the skull piece missing should be the biggest indicator. This was more like a Daigo appearance, he was here in disguise. ''Does he know he looks cute in glasses and a beanie?'' She muttered to herself from behind the aisle she was peeking out from. For a moment, he looked like the old Diego. Just a man who was out looking for good deals like everyone else. She thought back to that night of undercover work with him at the company... Could she have had a normal life with Diego? One where they didn't have to fight on opposite sides? ''What are you up to...'' She furrowed her brow at Diego, causing a concerned mother to stop up and look at Lucille with concern. ''Ah! D-Don't you think it's crowded today?'' She saved it by waving her hands in front of her own face frantically and letting out a chuckle. ''Crowds freak me out, sorry if I alarmed you!''''That's okay, I actually just wanted to look at those grills you're standing by.''''Oh-'' Luci awkwardly shuffled out of her way. ''You see, my husband's birthday is the day before Christmas.''Oof, that stung. How nice that she had a loving husband. Wait... That was it! Diego was out here buying gifts for his uh... Villain colleagues! Or his loved ones like... Ellie... Luci ducked down behind the aisle and took a deep breath. ''Let him go, he's allowed to like other people...'' She sulked, before thinking to look back for Diego in case he moved so she could follow him. Diego Ibarra

Winter was fast approaching and nowhere was that more evident than with the coming of Black Friday. She was considering just staying inside and ordering gifts from online like she did last year, but somehow it just didn't feel right. There was just a completely different feeling to showing up in person and buying physical gifts for someone. Being able to walk around and browse and take guesses at what the people closest to her might like. As she walked among the aisles her eyes settled on a Rubik's cube. What a perfect gift for Iphigenia! ...Or, well, it would be a perfect gift for all of five seconds before she would have solved it. No, maybe her own love of puzzles was driving her desire to purchase it, but as she reached out she hesitated. This day wasn't for her to splurge money on herself, she was here to get things for others. Next she stopped to look at a yoga mat. Would Stellar be into that sort of thing? She could easily imagine her doing yoga, all while smiling and laughing, but on the flipside she might also want something more exciting. She grumbled to herself as she thought about what to do. She barely didn't even notice the person trying to step past her and quickly stepped aside so they could be let through. Looking at them she bowed her head in apology. ''Sorry!'' She smiled back apologetically, but what caught her eyes next made that awkward smile turn into a serious, terrified expression. Was that... Diego?! Diego Ibarra

She was all smiles under her improvized mask. Not only did she manage to get a hit in on Grime, but she got to see Diego proceed to launch him with a kick. Throughout this whole ordeal, since she had first taken the job to go undercover as Lucia, even though it hadn't been long... She had never expected that at the end of it all she would get to feel so proud watching a villain beat up another villain. She was feeling a lot of unexpected emotions, and although she wanted to she probably couldn't handwave all of it as being because of the alcohol. With Grime knocked out and Nanba right there, her work could resume and take the twist she had waited for. Soon she was going to say goodbye to her persona of Lucia completely and help bring this man to justice. ''Dieg-'' Before she could get another word out he disappeared, having shoved a water bottle into her hands. She felt guilt sting her stomach as she looked at the bottle. Could she really accept credit for all of this? If it wasn't for Diego, her mission might not even have succeeded, but she couldn't mention him either, right? Would they chastise her for working with a known villain? Would it give the Heroes Association a lead to go after him? What if some other hero who wasn't kind to villains caught up to Diego and did horrible things to him, all because she had been a big dumb blabbermouth? She opened the water bottle and undid the sludge mask on her face. Nanba turned to run while she took a sip, but she quickly apprehended him and knocked him unconscious too. She let out a sigh and took another sip of water, before looking up at the night sky. ''You could have at least said goodbye.'' She frowned, before raising her bottle in a toast as she addressed no one in particular since Diego was already gone. ''But thanks for the water.'' She smiled, taking a moment to gather her thoughts as she figured out how to unravel this whole plot over the next week or so. Diego Ibarra

She knew he was right, but she still pouted at what he said next. What was so good about being a villain anyway? Why couldn't he just give up and let her arrest him? Didn't he realize she was trying to help him? That she just wanted the best for her childhood friend and crush? ''Fiiiine.'' She sighed, slurring her speech a bit again. She had really gone overboard on the drinking. She wanted to act drunk, and to make it authentic she drank a couple of beers. Then the thought of Diego showing up made her drink a few more and now she was really feeling it. ''Shorry for the worry!'' She laughed right after Diego's apology and bowed her head clumsily to the rest of the party before getting back to her seat. She registered that Diego was being called over to speak to the big boss man, but strangely, she didn't worry about what they were talking about at all. She knew she shouldn't, but she found herself trusting him more and more. After all, he had so many opportunities to backstab her or rat her out on this job. ''Eh?'' She looked over at Momo next to her, straining her eyes a bit while swaying from side to side. ''Momo-chan, did you bring your twin today? Or-'' She grimaced as she suddenly felt extremely sick. Putting a hand over her mouth she quickly stumbled her way up and rushed to the bathroom. ''Who the hell're you?!'' Grime retorted, activating his green slime quirk and letting it envelop his whole body starting with where Diego was aiming to strike him. With his quirk being sticky slime, he was hoping to trap the unknown assailant and make him unable to fight back. Although whether he could really match his speed was another thing entirely. ''You're no Puppet... Are you some kind of vigilante?'' Just his luck, perfect night out, easy job and then some disguised psycho comes for him. ''Not that it matters, I'll make sure you can't run away, then I'll kill you.''''Oww...'' She whined, putting a hand up to her head as she sat next to the toilet. ''This headache is killing me.'' But she was starting to feel a lot better. Washing her hands she took a deep breath as she mentally prepared herself to rejoin the chaos. She almost walked back out to the party, but she immediately noticed that Diego was missing. He had just gone to the bathroom, right? Wait, where was the CEO Nanba? Damn it! She should have exchanged numbers with Diego or something so it would be easier to contact him. Not like permanently, she would obviously delete it once their job was done because she wasn't going to keep a villain's contact information in her phone and he would probably get mad anyway. No, he was never going to give her his number in the first place. Ellie... ''What's so good about that woman anyway.'' She pouted to herself, looking at herself in the mirror before pointing a finger at her image. ''Get it together! You're beautiful, you matter, you're not weak!'' Just as she was feeling reinvigorated she heard one of the stall doors open behind her. Her face turned as pale as a sheet as she quickly dove into another stall to hide. ''But seriously, I'm like, so jealous that you're going to Hokkaido!'' The two women laughed, talking about vacation plans or something. It wasn't really important. Looking up Lucille noticed a small, but wide window at the top of the bathroom. With an unceremonious thud Lucille managed to make her way through the window with all the dexterity of a gymnast who absolutely did not stick the landing. ''Ouch.'' However, she too had managed to make a makeshift disguise by tying her hair up and using the sludge she could produce from her quirk as a facemask. ''What was that sound?'' Grime asked, unable to turn around since he was busy with Diego. This gave her an opening to run up behind him and kick him in the back of his knees to mess with his balance, trusting that Diego could take him out afterwards. Diego Ibarra

''Really?'' She held a hand up to her mouth as her eyes welled up. Even if Sora was lying, the thought that a kid was cheering her on was enough to move her to tears. ''That's so cute! I always thought I was too scary for the young ones.'' She added with a self-deprecating chuckle. She was marketed as the Undead Hero after all and the reason she had earned that alias was because she came back from the dead. She couldn't help but quietly applaud the cloud phrase as he spelled it out in support of a young hero hopeful. It was no surprise Sora was so good with civilians in general. She heard he was hosting a class on using your quirk in different ways too. Hopefully the students would get a lot out of that exercise, since most of the time they only trained for combat or crisis scenarios and not the day to day interactions. ''Thanks!'' She called out as she felt the cloud on her back, feeling just a little bit safer going in alone. Neither of them were really combat specialists, but Lucille had faced many villains by now thanks to her work at the Maxima Agency. Once she got within range of the villain she went for a kick, which he just barely managed to dodge by stumbling back away from her. ''Wait, wait, wait a moment!'' The villain held his hands up, shaking them profusely as he looked like he was ready to surrender. This foolishly made her drop her guard, letting the villain land a clean hit on her as he punched in the face. However, much to his dismay, it didn't have much of an effect. ''Eh?'' More importantly, why didn't he use the tremors against her? Was he unable to send tremors through people? ''Give up, you're surrounded!'' She raised her fists again, making the villain wince and turn tail and flee, only to be met with the smiling hero Fae King coming up right behind him. What an ominous smile!! What were they going to do to him? Before the villain could get away Lucille kicked him in the back, sending him falling onto the ground face first. ''You hero bastards!'' The villain growled. ''If you hadn't snuck up on me I would have beaten you both easily!''''But I called out to you from way over there.'' Lucille pointed over her shoulder. He spat on the ground as he sat up. ''Ever heard of me?'' He smiled mischievously. ''The upstart villain, Shake-Up! I'm about to make my major debut, all those civilians in that building are gonna die before you can arrest me.'' Lucille didn't look too bothered by his gloating, maybe because she knew Sora had already taken care of the worst of it and she could see civilians being evacuated behind him as they spoke. ''Never heard of that name.'' She shrugged casually. ''Fae King? Does Shake-Up ring any bells?'' She looked over at her partner with a smirk, realizing now that they weren't dealing with some super villain, just an idiot criminal playing tough. Shake-Up gritted his teeth as he looked over at Sora. ''Well- b-but you've got to hurry or all those people are gonna die! Are you still able to call yourselves heroes if you just let them die?!''Sora Lucius

The way they were avoiding calling her auntie as usual was cute. It took her conscious effort too to be a little more formal with Michi. Not because their relation had worsened over the years or anything, but campus was still a pretty formal work setting and she couldn't differentiate between her students just because she knew the parents of one of them. ''My how you've grown!'' She exclaimed happily, holding her hand up. ''You know, back when I first met you, you were only about this tall. Now look at you!'' She giggled, giving Michi a gentle pat on the head. Okay, maybe since no one was around she didn't need to be that stiff and formal. ''Don't sweat it, new students get lost all the time. I didn't go to UAU but I got lost at my own hero school too when I was just starting out.'' Not to mention her first month as a teacher here! But she wasn't going to reference something so embarrassing, a search and rescue hero getting lost on her way to the class she was holding. ''Dorms? They're on the other side of campus, how about we walk there together?'' She offered with a warm smile. ''How are you liking life here at UAU so far? Have you bumped into Mai-san yet?'' She had heard in passing that Michi had trained at her dojo. michi machida

Lucille hummed to herself as she finished grading the last batch of the second year homework in her office. Several students were starting to improve, and seemed less and less bothered by the Dream World incident as it grew a little more distant in everyone's memories. She was especially impressed with Rin's recent presentation on Japanese nature and conservation efforts, since the girl was a wreck who could barely talk in front of the class when she first arrived at UAU. Not that she could expect anything less than the best from a Gotoh. Freja had been improving in the physical classes too, making Lucille wonder if she really was quirkless after all. Whatever had happened on her visit to Denmark had really lit a fire in her from the looks of it. ''Well, that's that.'' She put all the papers away in a binder before stashing them in a nearby drawer. Then, grabbing her bag she locked up her office and started heading out into campus, only to spot a new student looking a little lost. ''Michi Machida!'' She exclaimed with a smile on her face, waving at the new student. ''You're Machida-san, right? Can I help you with anything?'' It was a bit presumptuous of her to think Michi was lost, but on the other hand she had lost count of how many new students she had helped find their way around the enormous campus area. UAU was a big place, and surely overwhelming to anyone who hadn't already gone to one of Tokyo's big schools beforehand. michi machida

Despite it all, he still acted like she was a stranger, telling her not to apologize even though she knew she had wronged him. Her expression saddened when he talked about how he had to learn to survive on his own. Why did he feel that way? Back when they were kids, back before they got financially stable lives, they weren't on their own. They were in it together, taking over those poverty stricken streets of their youth and being there for each other through thick and thin. Did Diego really feel that cornered? That isolated? Had he... Had he never thought about it as them being a team, but just as himself fighting all on his own? The thought was so sad she didn't want to pursue it any further. Especially not while under the influence. She looked at his shoulder briefly as he offered it, letting out a slurred ''thamks.'' As she accepted his support. Unlike him, she wasn't strong enough to survive on her own. Never had been. When she wasn't relying on him like she was right now, she entrusted her safety to her hero colleagues. Maybe Diego had the right idea after all, maybe she needed to learn to stand on her own too and not be so codependent. Still, when she was receiving his support, even if he was evil... It felt nice. ''Right...'' She let out a small sigh. ''You're right, we want the same thing, so just for tonight, let's strike a temporary truce.'' She probably wouldn't get in too much trouble for that anyway. If the end result was still accomplishing her mission, but also gaining intel on Diego? That's how she was going to spin it anyways, although she didn't look forward to facing her superiors sober. ''I'll doo that!'' She made a little mock salute at him while smiling from ear to ear. ''Are you sure you don't want any? The drinks here are pretty good!'' Wait no, she needed to focus! Mission first, party second. ''Momo-chan! ~'' She called out to her coworker as she stumbled back to her seat, drunkenly reaching out to hug her. ''Let's order some gyoza together, it goes really well with the beer!'' And just like that she was integrating back into the party. Nanba and his accomplices were still sitting at the end of the table, smoking and laughing about something she hadn't quite caught onto yet. ''Oi, Daigo-kun!'' Nanba waved Diego over with a big grin on his face, clearly well into a few too many beers too. ''You guys, this is our new temp hire, his name is Daigo. Careful, he's a handsome devil!'' Nanba enthusiastically indicated to Diego as the two investors bowed their heads. ''Pleasure to meet you, Daigo-san.''Diego Ibarra

''You flatter me, I'm hardly anyone noteworthy.'' She giggled, both playing along with the joke and feeling a little out of the spotlight, since she had been devoting more and more time to her role as a teacher than as a professional hero. ''I don't know how you do it! I can hardly keep up with two jobs and I don't have any kids or relatives to look after.'' She didn't count her brother Lucas since he could look after himself just fine, and he was busy with work and caring for his husband more often than not anyway. ''Really? She's got your can-do attitude!'' She chuckled, remembering how determined she herself was when she approached her own pro hero mother for hero training all those years ago. ''Me?'' She rubbed the back of her neck. ''Nothing special! Preparing next semester's classes in advance and working at Maxima. I was involved in the incident surrounding the islands.'' The islands incident in question being a reference to the Ragnarockers running amok in the sea of Japan. Then she remembered bumping into Diego. Her childhood friend turned hopeless crush, who then betrayed her and became a villain. She had clashed with him recently and unfortunately she didn't manage to capture him. ''Uh, and I've been catching up with some old friends.'' She finished, not sure how she could, or if she even should unpack all that. She smiled and gave Sora a thumbs up. ''One photo coming right up! Get in the center. ~'' She encouraged the civilian to get between them before smiling even brighter for the camera. ''Is that so? We'll be looking forward to seeing what you've got.'' She flexed her arm dramatically at the civilian to elicit a laugh from him as they said their goodbyes and he went on his way. ''So young and aspirational.'' She sighed blissfully. ''You can't help but feel energized, right?''Just when it looked like the patrol would stay uneventful, something shook the ground dramatically. At first Luci thought it was just an earthquake, but looking further down the street she noticed that visible tremors were traveling out of the palm of a villain's hands and into the wall of a nearby building which shook dramatically and threatened to collapse then and there. She only took one glance at Sora before taking off into a sprint, calling out to the perpetrator. ''Stop right there!''The villain looked over with shock on his face. ''Heroes?! That's not what they told me!-''Sora Lucius

For a second she was worried that Diego might pop the balloon he was using to slingshot himself, but a small part of her felt like she could trust him too. After all, why was he deliberately avoiding hurting civilians right now? Obviously they couldn't be part of his evil plans, even if he was a villain. She always used to call him out whenever he made impulsive moves, or for being more brawns than brains, but the truth was she had always admired how smart he was. Diego was the reason she pushed herself, the reason she tried a little harder. She watched as the last Sango Brother fell, saved from getting smashed against the ground too. She wished she could compliment Diego and hug him as a hero partner, but at the end of the day she knew what she was dealing with. ''S-Stop right there!'' She flew after him, trying her best to wield her duty as a shield so that she didn't have to show that she was tearing up at having to confront him like this. ''You helped me take down the Sango Brothers, but I'm going to have to apprehend you here!'' She wanted Diego to turn around and face her, but did she even have the energy left to fight? ''If... If you tell them you helped me your punishment might be less severe, I-I can vouch for you too!'' She was growing increasingly desperate at the thought of being able to save him. Maybe if she could just convince the right people- She flinched as she felt a cramp in her wing, just barely managing to land on the ground and deactivate her quirk before she seriously hurt herself. ''Diego.'' She reached out a hopeful hand with her good arm, wanting him to take it of his own volition. This was it. The moment he turned his life around and gave up on villainy. That's what she wanted to believe. However, reality was much crueler than her dream. Diego turned and flew away. Diego Ibarra

To hear him say those words... It felt like he had stabbed her in the heart and then twisted the knife for good measure. ''O-Oh...'' She didn't mean to sound so deflated, but it probably helped make the rejection look real to Grime. It didn't help that it felt real to her too. Elli? Was she another villain he had met while switching sides? Maybe he had switched sides because of her all those years ago. Realized that she was nothing more than a liability after she died and disappointed him. ''I see.'' She hung her head dejectedly. ''I wish you good luck with her, then.''She took it way more personally than she thought. After all she didn't mean to confess her feelings to him, and not like this at all! Drunk and on an official mission... ''Hey.'' She spoke up again as they started heading back inside, but she couldn't face him after that embarrassing move she just pulled. ''I really meant it back then, I really am sorry for hurting you.'' She remembered apologizing to Diego before being teleported away on Takamagahara, but she wasn't able to hear his response back then. ''I hope you don't think less of me for coming up with such a stupid distraction.'' She slowly started cheering herself up, lifting her gaze and smiling at him. ''I've always had a bird brain.'' She joked, knowing full well that her quirk made her act on similar traits to a crow sometimes. ''You catch on fast though, you knew exactly what to do.'' It was just a flicker, but he reminded her of the old reliable Diego, the one that was always there for her and always knew what to do. She supported herself on the wall near the entrance as she stood there for a moment. ''So...'' She felt a little dizzy but standing still helped. ''You heard what Nanba-san was talking about, right? About the villains. And don't try to play dumb, you know what those names mean.'' She pointed an accusatory finger at him while pouting, like she was preemptively expecting him to not cooperate with her. Diego Ibarra

What was taking him so long? Despite her calling him a stubborn idiot she knew he actually wasn't stupid. Of the two of them she always thought of him as the smart and cool one. Whenever she was losing her cool during hero course tests, he was always there to snap her out of it. She perked up when he finally came outside, both happy that her little signal had actually worked, but also dreading the fact that he was approaching her out of disguise and talking so loudly, he was always so loud! She wanted to signal for him to be quiet, but it was too late, Grime was already on high alert. ''U-Um... That's right Daigo-kun, I...'' She trailed off when she realized how close to her he had gotten. Wasn't this way too close?! How could they look like they were having a normal conversation like this? She needed to do something to shift the focus quickly and drop any suspicion that might have been placed on them. For some reason, the reason being the alcohol in her body, all she could think about was doing one thing. ''...Do you like me?'' She blushed, looking away shyly because she couldn't bear looking into his eyes and keeping in character. No, was any of this even playing a character? She had liked Diego for decades, she never thought it would go anywhere, but ever since he started showing up in Japan she did get her hopes up again. What Momo said had dashed them faster than she was comfortable with, so this wasn't just Lucia asking, this was Lucille searching for an answer. She slowly put her arms around him, giving him plenty of time to back off if he wanted to. ''I like you, Daigo-kun.'' She looked up at him again, her eyes searching for his before she looked at his lips. Closing her eyes, she slowly leaned up to kiss him. Please, please don't let them get suspicious, Diego! She wouldn't exactly feel good about being pushed away by him like that time he first left, but for the sake of the mission... Diego Ibarra

She felt sparks as her eyes met Diego's. It was so brief, but she wanted to exist in that moment forever. If she wasn't here to do her job she might even have tried to get closer with Diego, but... Right! Bakuretsu, Mummy, Dragon... She should report back what she had gotten so far, but none of this was incriminating enough to hold up in court. Right now it was basically her word against his, she needed more concrete evidence. Right after she finished clinging to Diego some more. ''I'll let you go for now.'' She smiled up at Diego as he got out, sticking her tongue out to tease him. More and more the alcohol was making her loosen up and slip into being her usual self instead of the Lucia she had been going undercover as. She quickly took out her phone and to be less conspicuous, she opened a note and only typed in 3 emojis. Bomb, Bandage, Dragon. ''Huh?'' She looked up with a bit of a start as Momo addressed her, quickly putting her phone down because it probably looked rude that she wasn't socializing. ''U-Um, yeah!'' She was a bit crushed to learn that he had supposedly told Amano that he was already interested in some other girl, but she couldn't exactly not be true to her emotions. ''Is that so? We'll see, then!'' She returned a smile, but in actuality she was feeling those anime style rival sparks between them. She wasn't going to lose! ''If you'll excuse me, I need to go outside for a smoke.'' She didn't actually smoke, but it was always a great cover for when she needed to dip away for a moment. The fresh air hit her hard as she put a hand up to her head. ''Been drinking way too much.'' She muttered to herself. The absolute pain of not being able to taste beer but only feel the side effects. To clear her head she took out a small juice box which she always kept on her person. It looked like just a regular drink, but it was actually filled with blood. Normally she kept some on her in case she needed to recharge her quirk, but after a night of drinking and eating normal food she needed something refreshing. ''Where did Diego go anyway?'' She wondered as she continued sipping until she made a disturbing realization. He wasn't using the bathroom excuse to sneak away from the party quietly, was he? She hoped she was wrong, but she couldn't help but circle around the building to check one of the nearby back alleys. Expecting to see Diego there or maybe just a stray cat, Luci quickly backpedaled when she walked in on what looked to be some kind of secret deal. ''Anyway, that's the sitch.'' One of the masked figures who Lucille could recognize from a glance said confidently. He was carrying a sword on his back and went through great efforts to hide his civilian identity. The villain known as Grime was a smalltime villain compared to the names Nanba had mentioned at the party table. She had captured him before, but bringing him in had always been an issue since he had friends in high places. Was this his idea of working his way up to becoming a more serious villain? Wait, she needed backup, but not other heroes, she needed someone who more or less understood what was going on. She looked back towards the window, the party was going on right on the other side. How could she alert Diego without making it super obvious or embarrassing? She dreaded the office gossip at the idea of her walking back in and pulling Diego outside with her. She probably couldn't call his old, old, old phone number either. A clue only he will recognize... It took her a moment but then it finally clicked. Assuming he had gotten back from his bathroom break, or would spot it on the way back, she prepared the emitter part of her quirk to spit a little bit of sludge onto the outside of the nearest window. Her sludge was sticky, but not destructive, and with the party being so loud the odds that anyone heard it hit the window were small. Hopefully Diego would recognize it... Diego Ibarra
