A flicker of annoyance flashed over his face. He was loud? "Do you know how many times your big mouth go us into to trouble?! I always was the one bailing you out." he snapped back at her; no one else could get under his skin so easily.[break][break]
He froze as she latched onto him. Anyone else would have been on the receiving end of his fist, but instead, he froze while he listened to her. He wanted her to hold on forever and never let go, but staying like this meant all of this, everything he went through would be for nothing. He dove into darkness for her and couldn't return until he finished what he started. [break][break]
After a long silence, he would gently pull his arm away and spoke to her quietly, unable to turn around. "You haven't changed." It might have sounded like an insult to Luci, but he felt his heart racing. It was the most he'd talked to her in years, and she was still the person he loved more than anything else.[break][break]
He'd turn back around, having been able to maintain his composure again. "You don't know where you're going, so if you want to keep an eye on me follow me then." He didn't know where he was going either, but just being around Luci made him regress back to their old dynamic where he put himself out in front as a shield. "If you're going to go after the guy that's causing all this then we're on the same side. I'm gonna beat him to a pulp."

He let out a sigh of relief as the danger passed. He wasn't concerned about himself; he just had Luci around, and he felt like he was back in school with her, always protecting the sunshine in his life. It was hard not to view her as the girl who had half a quirk and was always optimistic even when things were tough.[break][break]
He didn't like messing with his cover, but Luci was so persistent, and her punches made him want to pass out. Not because they were strong but because he felt so vulnerable at that moment, and it certainly didn't help that she smelled good. He clenched his fists as hard as he could so he could focus on the present. "Are you stupid? I just saved your ass, you'd be in big shit without me Phantasm- LUCI!" He basically yelled this, causing the light of the eye from earlier to briefly come back and scan the room. He held his breath and gestured for Luci to do the same, and once it passed, he exhaled again.[break][break]
"I don't have time for this I need to s- I'm going to destroy whatever this idiot has planned." Great save as always, Diego. He would open the door slightly and peer out, seeing no one in the hallway before he squeezed past Luci and stepped out. "Go home." he couldn't face her again as he couldn't hide how sad he felt saying this. "You're just going to get in my way; I don't work with heroes." He began to walk away, praying that someone would come help Luci evacuate since he had a job to do. He desperately wanted to turn around and go with her but he couldn't think of any excuse and it was clear that she didn't want to be stuck with him anyways.[break][break]
She had a real life to live, after all—one without him.

This whole exchange reminded him of the past where Luci, when they were kids, insisted on fighting with him. Of course he ended up beating up the people basically by himself but he never forgot the look on her face. Luci wasn't a violent person but she looked at him like he was the only person in the world. He thought he saw a flash of that just now as she went in to attack but most importantly he was just happy to be on the same side as her.[break][break]
She had definitely improve using the opportunity he gave her in an instant and soon after he would do the same, flying towards the nearest balloon he would slingshot himself around and when he got close enough to the Sango Brother he would hammer strike him hard enough to send him down the the ground. Soon followed by Diego who increased the force of gravity to make sure he didn't move. An easy victory. No one could ever beat him and his partne-[break][break]

This wasn't good. None of this was good.[break][break]
Everything about his organization forbade contact with people in your former life since the chance of compromising your cover went up like crazy. There were people formerly in In'ei who were forced to leave Tokyo after making a critical mistake like this but he really couldn't help it. He wasn't fired up like she usually saw him he was more...calm. At least on the outside as on the inside he felt like he could scream. He still had a job to do. "Elementalist? That chump? I'm here to kick his ass from daring to send those monsters on MY territory." He grinned ear to ear. A creature with multiple eyeballs began to glow red, and rapid footsteps could be heard heading in their direction and without even thinking Diego immediately grabbed Luci, throwing her over his shoulders just like old times and ran as fast as he could through this maze like area, ultimately finding a door that wasn't sealed and that led to a small storage shed. He would squeeze them both inside and set her down as he waited for the creatures to move on only to turn back and see her close he was to Luci. [break][break]
All the missions he had taken were nothing like this. This was his biggest dream and worst nightmare all at once.

A cold sweat broke out as he tried to regain his composure, but he was clearly not only was Luci the last person he expected to show up but he almost struck her which was something that made him sick. It brought back those feelings of the day when she died. [break][break]

In'ei was on deploy in full force. Diego hadn't even been apart of the organization the last time they were mobilized all in one go and as a result he felt uncomfortable. These were all his trusted colleagues, but his mind was elsewhere. Would Maxima send Luci down there? It wasn't something he didn't want to think about and because of his reluctance to go in with his usual persona he was assigned to the recon and Kumojiki would be coordinating the movements of the Nomu down there with him. Yaeko posed as a regular doctor treating every who needed it and chi-chi had a separate assignment. [break][break]
Deployed in their respective undercover alliances Diego would split up from Shurin under the guise of "Wanting to make these chumps pay" but in reality he was quick enough on his feet to move quickly without being detected and resilient enough to put up a fight. If he died here he would be sure to take out as many threats as possible. That was his role and he'd play it til the very end but...for now he put up his fists and grinned there was some sort of portal or teleporter in front of him and it was active. All things considered this wasn’t the worst way to see Luci again. While it was his job to try and put personal feelings aside and act on the greater interests of society as a whole. Luci was someone he had to leave behind, but the heart wants what it wants and he was going to use this situation to his advantage.[break][break]
The Sango Brothers struck back and even the putting their full strength into it Diego made an internal note that they were pretty weak. Both of their strikes basically added up to one decent person which meant he could resolve this in no time. As he parried a strike his eyes drifted over to Luci and then to another couple that were holding each other tight as they watched the battle.[break][break]
“Fine Phantasmagoria… I’ll deal with you later!” He would dodge back away from one of the brothers before leaping forward with a spinning roundhouse kick towards one of the brothers launching him in a combo attack towards Luci.[break][break]

It wasn’t exactly like they were desperate for Pros who could take to the skies, so either this was the world's worst coincidence, or someone was messing with him. Regardless, it ultimately was would change how he handled this whole thing entirely.[break][break]
Once Luci came within his sights, he would ease up on the force of his gravity since he didn’t want to force her to land. In fact, he paused entirely, cherishing these moments when he could see her. Diego had received information on his next job for the first time in over a week. Yaeko, who treated Diego’s injuries from all the fighting he did day in and day out, turned over the information. The Flying Sango Brothers were set to extort all the happy couples by threatening them with a thousand-foot drop if they didn’t comply. [break][break]
As Diego was one of the few in In’ei who could not only “fly” but also bring them down to earth…literally. So with a dozen ways to play it he figured he could use the ‘turf war’ excuse that Manticora was known for. Once Diego stepped onto the field he waited, hood up, for the two idiots to show themselves. [break][break]
Seeing all the happy couples just made him pull down the top of his hood further to shield his eyes. For onlookers, it might give the assumption that he just didn’t want the sun in his eyes but it was really because all of these people remind him of his sun. The fall weather made him remember all the times they were huddled together, eating meals for their own little Thanksgiving. With a heavy sigh he saw the two flying in on their jetpacks they were known for.[break][break]

As brash and reckless as his Manticora persona could be Diego was nothing if not consistent. For those in In'ei they could always choose the method in which they used their identity when facing the public and Diego chose to be territorial and prideful. His true self was humble and just enjoyed peace more than anything but it was a necessary evil. It was necessary to become evil. [break][break]
On a rooftop in Shinjuku, he was awaiting a check-in by a coworker of his. They had protocols for communication between undercover agents and very strict terms by which they would meet with Diego. Staying in character, he eyed the streets below with a grin on his face that would warn any observers to stay away. [break][break]
The approaching footsteps made Diego steel himself before he whipped around to see Yaeko. "Oho? Under the veil of darkness, you coming swinging for the king?!" He would localize his gravity to just the rooftop, waiting for the confirmation in code from Yaeko. "Fortunately for you, I took an oath to do no harm. I've come here to strike a deal about the blue one." This was all the confirmation Diego needed as he dropped his quirk immediately, and his body language changed. With a heavy sigh he would take a seat as Yaeko approached with an envelope. "A potential recruit." She said flatly as Diego opened it and scanned it before looking back up at Yaeko. "Is the old man serious?" She nodded and let him continue, "This is a big ask, but it's my job." He would pull out a lighter and ignite the paper. "Next week, Akihabara?" She nodded again and took her leave, letting Diego think about his job. To test someone like Ironheart? The old man trusted him that much? He knew where he would be and took off in that direction.[break][break]
Ironheart was infamous, and his deeds spoke for themselves, with the critical weakness being something that Yaeko, In'ei's information broker, had provided. Without a constant source of power he would eventually do something drastic and the power surge would be enough to locate him. Yaeko had been keeping tabs on him since he was a big get and if she was right he would hit up the power station in desperation. Landing outside Diego was sure he'd have hit his mark as their was a clearly fresh hole in the gate. 'Show time' he thought to himself as his pensive expression turned to one of a maniac and he followed the tracks left behind.
