[attr="class","header2"]OVERVIEW
» NAME: Raiomaru Toshigawa
» AGE: 62
» GENDER: Male
» AFFILIATION: U.A. Faculty
» HERO NAME: Leonid
» ALIAS: The Silver King Hero, The Voice of the Big Five
» OCCUPATION: Pro Hero (Semi-Retired), U.A. Educator (Hero Studies)
[attr="class","body"]
He has lived a long life.
Raiomaru is an old figure with a lot of sights to his name and a lot of stories to tell. While his raw physical presence and the natural dominance that comes with the nature of his quirk, it is easy for the Silver King to appear as intimidating at first glance, a first impression that would not be entirely without merit if you had met him twenty or thirty years ago. These days however, he is largely past notions such as ambition or conflict. He has already achieved everything that he could have hoped to achieve, and what was once a fiery, star-chasing inferno has cooled down to something far more passive, the old lion now calmed down to the point where his only remaining desire is to nurture and train the next generation of heroes, a way to give back to the industry and society that has given him so much. He is more at home enjoying a good meal and listening to his favorite music than he is engaging villains in combat or embarking on new adventures, having already had more than enough of thrills and excitement.
He is a proud man, well aware of his capabilities and what those capabilities make him. Back in his younger days, this manifested as an overwhelming sense of self-interest and egotistic ambition that, while it did allow him to climb to the highest peaks of the hero industry, also means that he would sabotage the careers of others and cut the legs out of those that he saw as competition. While he has calmed and humbled himself significantly since those days, the lion has still not lost its teeth entirely, and he still carries himself with a distinct sense of self-importance. He genuinely tries to be better than he was, but it is clear that he does still hold himself in high regards, he is a veteran of the hero industry and he expects to be treated as such, and disrespecting that legacy or not showing him the acknowledgement that he feels like he deserves is a surefire way to annoy him. Similarly, it is still quite easy to goad him into competition, even if it is going to be far less high-stakes now than it used to be. Sports, games, bets. The man likes winning, and despite his age such things can still make the pettier side of him surface from time to time, even if this is always going to be far more harmless than the many things that he he did in his youth, that he now regrets.
Gods, he has so many regrets.
He is a heavily repentant soul. While the "giving back" narrative that was mentioned previously is a significant part of the truth, and is the narrative that he himself parades in interviews and sit-downs, it is not the entire truth. The educator position is a sense of personal redemption to Raiomaru. He cannot rebuild the bridges that he burned and he cannot put the lives he ruined to slake his own ego back together again, and he cannot undo the damage he did to people whose only crime was daring to be as good or better than him back in the day, but he can make amends to fostering a new, more humble and more heroically minded generation. Perhaps, if he can instill proper heroic virtues into his students, he will do enough net good at the end of it all to come out as a positive presence in the hero industry. Perhaps.
Or maybe the fact that he took the position of training others, preparing others for one of the most dangerous occupations in the world and made it about himself, even if he would never admit it, simply proves that he could never really change after all.

» FUR COLOR: White
» SKIN COLOR: Gray
» FACE CLAIM NAME: Thomas Edison
» FACE CLAIM SERIES: Fate/Grand Order
When he appears, you know it. Raiomaru is a towering figure, broad-shouldered, barrel-chested and still sporting swelling, powerful muscle over his entire body despite his ever-increasing old age. He walks straight-backed, with a proud gait and intense eyes, his voice is a deep, bone-shaking rumble. No matter who or where you are, the king draws attention. He has a presence, both physical and more ephemeral, that makes him impossible to ignore.
Oh yeah, he's also a lion. There's that.
The product of his quirk, Raiomaru is clearly an animal-type mutant. His entire body is covered in fur, his fingers and toes sport obvious, black claws and most notably, he has the head of a lion, great sweeping mane and everything. Once a magnificent blend of orange and golds, age has made the old hero gray, and his fur is now a mix of pure whites and shimmering silvers, with only the odd streak of brown still visible among all of his hair. This has done nothing to make him less regal however, and he carries his silver with dignity. His eyes, also feline in appearance, consist of thin, pitch black slits and pale blue sclera, once striking in contrast with the surrounding golds, it now blends in well with the rest of his cooler colors.
When seen in public, Raiomaru invariably sports his hero costume. A striking blue, white and red form-fitting armor, adorned with silvery metal bits across knuckles and joints, an ankle-long cape that emerges from his waist and large, decorative lights emerging from his already swelling shoulders. It is striking, if very old-school in its presentation, as one could expect from the aging hero. At this point, this costume is far too iconic and closely associated with Leonid for Raiomaru to ever consider changing or upgrading it - call him a stickler for traditions like that. When on his own he presents far looser and less restrictive clothes, as it is what is most convenient with thick fur already covering most of his form. Baggy sweat pants and a sleeveless shirt will serve him just fine, it is not like he would ever expect anyone to see him like that. The only time that he appears within eyesight of others these days, it is in official capacity as his hero alias.

He was always meant for greatness.
Raiomaru was born to the Toshigawa family, a simple lower-class mutant family in outer district Osaka. They were not poor by any descriptor, he had a comfortable enough upbringing by the standards of his neighborhood, but they were also nothing really worth talking about. Slightly below-average, the only notable thing about them being their feline characteristics. This, then, made it all the more noteworthy when it grew apparent just how gifted the young lion was. As soon as he began his schooling he began outperforming his peers, outshining most if not all others in all manners of athletics. He joined sports clubs and he won prizes, he found his voice and he used it, pulling others in with a raw (pardon the pun) animal magnetism that was undeniable. As soon as he was old enough to compete, Raiomaru grew accustomed to the feeling of winning. His family, of course, only encouraged this, showering him with praise and admiration as he continued to show more and more promise in everything that he tackled. A genius, they said, a natural, destined for excellence.
What could he possibly do but get a big head about it? Keeping telling a child that they are special and superior, that they are something unique, and they will eventually believe it.
His schooling came and went, with medals and sport club cups collected by the dozens. He was already a king by this point, ruling over the student body as a star, stud competitor and charismatic party beast. He had already decided that being a hero was the path for him, not out of any sense of responsibility or wish to make the world better, but simply because he saw just how much attention heroes could draw in, how much money they can make. It was stardom, and success and fame were just the things that he was convinced that he was meant for. He enrolled into U.A. and, just as he had high school previously, he took to the university life by storm. Here, he learned the innate competitiveness that came with hero existence, he understood that the law of the jungle - eat or be eaten - was what applied in this industry, and he took it to heart to the degree where it would be what he named his fighting style after. Here he began to hone the practice of pushing others down to get ahead into an artform, and among his detractors Raiomaru would soon gain the reputation of a snake. A selfish figure who only cared about his own success, who would gladly lie to and sabotage the projects of other students if it meant that he looked better in comparison. He graduated with some of the top grades in his class, but also with plenty of new enemies made among the people of his generation.
Not everyone, though. Despite his behavior, Raiomaru was still a charismatic figure, and one that drew eyes to him. He had throughout his school years managed to find a few close friends, his own rat pack as it were, that had tied themselves to him. They were with their fresh licenses all very promising young heroes, and this clique quickly decided that they would not work for anyone else, they would strike it out on their own. They became the so-called Big Five, which would also become the name of their own fledgling hero agency.
From there on, for the following decades, the Big Five Hero Agency would take Japan by storm. They had always been talented and the five core heroes made for a striking, highly marketable team. They appeared on TV, in movies, on talk shows, they developed lines of merchandise, they expanded and took in swathes of sidekicks and interns. They fought villains and intervened during emergencies, they performed rescues and spoke where they were needed. For what it was worth, all the ego within this group did not mean that the Big Five were not talented at what they did, and they soon saw success within every field of the hero business. But, that is not to say that all of this success came by honest means. Eat or be eaten, after all, and this was a rule that all of the Big Five, Raiomaru in particular, understood, and the lion and frontman of the agency was particularly ruthless in its applications.
Indeed, it was not only that the Big Five Hero Agency succeeded, it was that all other agencies around them failed. Rumors and scandals shooting down promising rising names, deals being undercut and taken away from neighboring agencies, backroom deals made between the Big Five, lawmakers and politicians in order to limit the involvement of any heroes except their own. Ruthless and relentless poaching, hazing and sabotaging of sidekicks and interns. Bullying, rampant swollen egos and people having their livelihoods or public relations taken away for the pettiest of reasons, or simply because the Big Five found it amusing. Behind the scenes, the Big Five became a poison to the industry, a parasite that leeched the integrity out of heroism itself to keep themselves afloat and on top and Leonid, the loud and proud face of the entire operation who had grown quite accustomed to the hedonistic, never-ending party rock and roll lifestyle of a highly successful pro hero, was the most toxic of them all. All the while they maintained a carefully curated public image, never letting their dirty laundry show, keeping them beloved by the general public. Had to keep that fan money flowing, after all.
But, ultimately, it was only a matter of time before the house of cards came crashing down. In due time, the ever-ballooning egotism yet incredibly fragile insecurity of Raiomaru's superstar self began to turn him against his fellow four. Who were they, after all, to soak in on his spotlight? To take share of his revenue? He was the one who did the most rescues, who handled all of the talk shows, he was the one that everyone thought of. He was the king of the Big Five, he reasoned, and any king should be able to expect loyal subjects. Subjects, not peers. His poisonous politicking began to turn inwards, rocking the other Big Five with scandals and horrid career missteps, and when this was all revealed, the entire situation combusted instantly. Horrible fights were had, proud minds clashed, friendships were ruined forever and, ultimately, the Big Five Hero Agency disbanded and shattered and Raiomaru, having now alienated not only his closest circle of friends but nearly the entire hero industry, was left alone.
He still kept at it for a while, after that. He became a solo practitioner, and independent hero, and he had decent success, but with his bridges burned wherever he turned, he remained completely and glacially isolated. His loneliness combined with his mounting guilt and regret over what had gotten him here eventually had him isolate, and Leonid the Golden King Hero disappeared from the screens, public appearances and the hero industry for over a decade, isolating himself entirely to the life of a reclusive, miserable hermit. A far cry from the party boy surrounded by hundreds of fans that he had spent most of his youth as. He only resurfaced just recently, a recent nostalgic trip back to U.A. letting the old lion get a glimpse of the next generation of heroes. He had a revelation, then, that maybe he could try again. Desperate for any kind of second chance, he turned to the U.A. and applied for a position as an educator in hero studies, a position that he still had enough of a force of personality and a very impressive resume as a pro hero to earn. He still wasn't entirely sure what he could do from here, or how he was even going to do it, but he knew one thing for sure.
He was going to be better this time.

QUIRK RANK: C+
QUIRK TYPE: Mutation
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Jungle King is, well, one of the most obvious parts about Raiomaru, really. He is a lion mutant, he has the physical (and some more symbolic) features of a lion. As a hero, this has mainly benefited him in the form of heightened bodily capabilities (not a mechanical feature of his quirk, simply represented through high and/or limit-broken physical attributes), but it does come with two more unique perks, the Sonic Roar and the King's Dominion.
The Sonic Roar is very straightforward, it's a concussive blast of explosive sound that Raiomaru can unleash with his vocal chords. While this passively manifests as a powerful voice and an ability to make himself heard without much trouble, he can use it in combat by focusing it and unleashing a booming attack that shatters glass, warps metal and can knock into people hard enough to send them flying. A combination of concussive force and extreme sound.
The King's Dominion, meanwhile, is something a bit more esoteric, but still very simple to explain: He is the ruler of the animal kingdom. Raiomaru carries with him a powerful aura of raw animal instinct dominance that, while not all too useful against people (simply represented as a high Presence attribute) does allow him to command animals and other more instinct-driven beasts in his surroundings. Even untrained dogs listen to him without question, wild animals shy away or avoid attacking him even if that would fall within their normal behavioral patterns and he can even intimidate trained attack animals or nonsapient quirk beasts to stand down and follow his commands. This is not some kind of animal communion, he cannot speak to animals and he cannot give them more advanced commands than they would already understand anyway, it is simply a kind of innate impression of superiority over more instinct-driven creatures around him, instilling respect and fear from such animals.
QUIRK DRAWBACKS: Well, all of that hair sucks to take care of like you wouldn't believe. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find full-body hairdressers?
On a more serious note, the biggest and most significant drawback of Raiomaru's quirk is that his senses, honed by his lion-like disposition, are quite easy to overwhelm. Loud noises (excluding his Sonic Roar for obvious reasons), powerful or disorienting smells, sudden flashes of light or other kinds of extreme sensory overstimulation affects him far worse than it would affect a regular person, to the point where a single flashback grenade (or something like it) would be enough to incapacitate him entirely for the foreseeable future. He has tried to circumvent this weakness in the past, but it has proven that most of the time, his honed senses are more valuable than they are detrimental, so it is simply something that he has to deal with these days.
While less crippling, his animalistic nature does also make him more id-driven than your average person. He is still a thinking individual and he can reign this in, but instincts and raw urges are more difficult for him to contain and reel back than for most people. In the past this made him a glutton, a fighter and self-serving. These days, it is more likely to make him a fair bit more impulsive than someone his age ought to be.
But also all of that hair though, goddamn.

EQUIPMENT NAME: Leonid Suit
EQUIPMENT RANK: B
EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER: Big Five Hero Agency Support Wing (Backstory NPCs)
EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: The Leonid Suit, already described under Appearance above, is Raiomaru's quintessential support gear. It is near-synonymous with the man himself at this point, and the old lion is unlikely to ever walk outside without it on. As a piece of armor its protective qualities are negligible, perhaps able to stop a knife coming from a common nonquirked thug, but besides that offering little in real value.
What it does have however is a highly advanced internal generator system that converts a good portion of the concussive energy that it absorbs into electricity, which both powers the decorative lights on it and more importantly allows Raiomaru to electrify his fists, charging his metallic knuckles to enhance his strikes with taser-like stunning electric shocks. Combined with the raw power of his blows, this allows him to stun and take down some of the most durable foes, targeting their nerves and musculature through these electric charges alongside his pure punching and kicking.

SKILL NAME: Law of the Jungle
SKILL RANK: B
SKILL DESCRIPTION: The Law of the Jungle is the name for Raiomaru's self-developed fighting style. It has its roots in boxing, but over thirty years of active hero work has had him refine, expand upon and adapt it, to the point where it is now a complete combat system of punches, kicks, elbow and knee strikes, grapples and takedowns all optimized to use his quirk-granted strength and speed to the most of its ability. Granted, he hasn't used it properly in over a decade and he's quite rusty, but the effectiveness still can't be denied.
