EXT. UA PHYSICAL GROUNDS — AFTERNOON

The sound of fists slamming banged against Gabriel’s eardrums. If the rumors were true, then this was another time-turner. Gabriel had been searching for kin of his throughout his years to little avail. There were always a handful of promising candidates each year. Most, however, fell short of ‘time manipulation’. While a few surprised him with his authenticity, his skepticism took the lead — camera in hand.

Throughout his tenure at U.A, flaky schedule and all, he kept his quirk under wraps. As far as the public knew, he had glowing, red eyes on command. It was underwhelming and precisely why he was in the business department for his upcoming film and photography business.

Isn’t that ironic? A photographer with the worst red eye ever? It’s okay if it takes a second to click.

Second over. Gabriel approaches.

iroshi Suzuki. That was his sparring opponent of the hour. Farrin had first encountered the lad while critiquing his sparring match with another student alongside Jason Riviera. His quirk saw him grow bone-like blades from his wrists. It also stoked the fella's aggression, which was the real point of the training. Hiroshi needed to get that aggression under control, even while in a scrap. In need of more sparring partners after most away after orientation, Farrin obliged. 

Farrin's fists battered the reinforced bone like a drum. With every blow, another crack boomed across the physical education grounds. Hiroshi was forced onto the defensive. If anything would get his blood boiling, it was the absolute denial that came with facing the time-turner. Hiroshi flourished on the offensive, but Farrin wouldn't budge, wouldn't waver in his attack. He had trained for several years before entering UAU's gates. There was no denying his advantage over most of his peers. His very first week at the university was marked by a sparring match against the former pro-hero, Professor Leonid, where he had nearly toppled the beast... before having his arm broken. Still, it was clear Farrin knew his way around a scrap, a point he was now demonstrating yet again. 

The flurry of fists was ceaseless. The only pause came when Farrin spun into a low kick that swept Hiroshi's legs out from under him. The lad was planted in the ground, and there he stayed, heaving. His gaze lacked the daggers he stared Farrin down with during their first meeting though. That was progress. 

It was then Farrin heard someone call his name. A blond-haired lad just a few inches shorter than himself. "Eh, well, yuh' found him," Farrin called back, slowing his breath and helping Hiroshi to his feet. Hiroshi dusted himself off. He was alright. No need to burden the university staff. So, Farrin approached Gabriel. "N' who might you be?" He asked, extending a hand. He still didn't really do the bowing thing.

Gabe. Business department, third year. Filmmaker, photographer, and…

He hands out the photograph with a matching permanent marker.

Autograph wanter?

Never hurt to stroke someone’s ego. And it was a great icebreaker.

n eyebrow journeyed up into a quizzical crook. An autograph? This guy was a third-year. Certainly he had witnessed his fair share of impressive students since entering UAU's gates. Farrin was confidence incarnate. A fact he had done little to hide, but had his reputation grown to such heights that the third years had caught wind of him? Consider his ego stroked, even if he found the situation more than a little odd. 

"Eh, sure?" He almost asked more than answered, grabbing the marker and signing the photo. "N' you, Hiroshi?" 

The other student continued to dust himself off, then waved the question away. "Right, and attach my name to memorabilia celebrating my defeat? No thanks." With that, the other student started toward the cafeteria. "I'm grabbing something to eat. Catch you later O'Rourke." 

Farrin shrugged, then turned back to face Gabe. An interview, too? This was not at all the sort of attention he expected to receive during his first year. Wouldn't such efforts be better spent on the senior class, who would soon be loosed from UAU's walls? Still, it couldn't hurt, though, right? 

"Yuh' sure it's me yer lookin' fer?" Farrin asked, "I mean, again, sure, but yuh' know I'm freshmen 'ere, right?"

"Aw... how cute." Gabriel chuckled to himself as Hiroshi walked away. The insecurity brought him back to his younger years at UA. He bullied so many of those types. "Anyway."

Gabriel put away the autograph and prepared his camera. The camera was on but aimed at the ground only catching their feet, not wanting to record without explicit consent. At least, that was the appearance of such. He could use his quirk on just this instance alone. But creating an actual project could be fun, too!

"Well, I'm graduating soon. And as a gift to my fellow seniors, I'm showing them the promising future that awaits. We have some legacy heroes who are making big, big waves when they graduate. They already have, actually. If you haven't heard about them yet, then you will." Gabe switched focus. "But what's important is that they hear about you. It's a good, motivational kick to their asses. And it inspires us all to work harder. So, if you don't mind..."

He points the camera at Farrin.

o, it was a little sendoff to the graduating class. In another life, Farrin might have worried for the future after his departure, but here and now the only concerns crossing his battle-bred brain included tangible growth and exams. He had a few years still before worrying for whoever followed in his footsteps. All that mattered was blazing a path beyond his predecessors. Throughout reality's many threads, Farrin often went down a darker path, but there were a few that saw him stand among the great and virtuous. In one, he was the mighty Symbol of Heroism. If he could do it once, he could do it again. To break the cycle plaguing the temporal seas, he had to.

"Sure thing, lad. Shoot," he answered, staring into the camera's lens.

ell, could say it started wit' me mum', she was a fairly big named hero back in Ireland n' the States, but it wasn't just an imitative want. May o' started as such, bein' like a parent n' all, but she made a real tangible difference e'erywhere she went, n' I think the world needs more o' that. Heroes alone, as most see 'em, fightin' the big bad villains n' such are a necessity fer' sure, but we need more that want ta' pull the problems up by the roots. She did that, in addition ta' fightin' crime, n' I still see the faces o' those she helped ta' this day. I want ta' do that n' more. Make sure e'eryone that leaves in the mornin' makes it home ta' the dinner table fer' certain, but also see that criminality becomes a less appealin' option ta' the less fortunate as well - by way o' empowerin' 'em ta' do more than simply survive society."

arrin paused a moment with the question. He should have seen it coming. Should have diverted attention away from his parentage, but pride in his Mum came so naturally. It burst from him with such ease. Unfortunately, her history was tied to his father's. Once a great hero, one that shared an ending with his mother's story, but not in the way most might think. 

"He was - fer' a time. Then he wasn't. If yuh' no' mind though, that's a subject I'd rather no' delve much into."  

Was it a lie by omission? Maybe. Who was to say. His father was a hero. Then he was anything but. Now he was rotting in Abaddon, one of the States' counterparts to Tartarus.
