"Why don't you just ask Lil or Ume? You did? Okay, I doubt they'd cheat. Because Ume has a single brain cell and Lil isn't that petty. Even Cal, huh? I don't play video games. Why would I-...fine." Sho would hit the end call button on his phone, having just dealt with the world's worst negotiator, Rui. He wouldn't have bothered if she hadn't helped him out on a previous mission of his by healing someone who needed to be extracted for interrogation purposes. Besides, he was sure even she couldn't mess up a clear win against someone who had never played a single video game in his life. Well, if Ume could even beat her, then maybe she wasn't doing it right. Still, he did plan on returning the favor from earlier, and if a few minutes of video game playing was all he needed to wipe the slate clean, then so be it.

He would change into a sweater and jeans before looking in his fridge and cabinets to see what he could bring. Even in a chaotic world, he still believed manners were important. He was settling on an unopened package of Himemaru Rice Crackers as he knew Rui liked to snack before checking his phone. Oh, Retsu was going too, huh? Their last few meetings probably didn't leave a good impression on her, but he wasn't in work mode today. So, as he ventured over to the Matsui siblings' apartment, he would use the door this time, ringing the doorbell as he waited for Rui.

She got Sho to agree to come play video games! She really was the world's best negotiator!!

And not just Sho, but she had texted Retsu too! Rui was especially excited because usually whenever her and Retsu hung out it involved violence and explosions. This time was different, and while she absolutely loved all the violence and the explosions, she also wanted to get to know her bomb bestie better. Thinking it over again, did she ever hang out with any other villains outside of work? Well, family sure, but most of her besties she only ever met up with for work. Boring!! Things needed to change around here!

Getting some pointers from Lili, Rui made sure to clean the apartment to the best of her abilities, wiping off tables, vacuuming the floor and shoving lots of things into the nearest closet so she didn't have to actually put them away. Taking out her phone, she would call Retsu. If she picked up, Rui would simply blurt out ''Oh yeah and Sho is also coming!'' And then immediately hang up. If she didn't, Rui left a voice mail before going back to getting everything set up for the night.

She put a little bit of effort into her appearance too for once. Oftentimes she didn't really dress up fancy unless she was leaving the apartment, but tonight she just felt like it! Besides, special guest Retsu was coming over! Sho wasn't a special guest, he was just family that lived somewhere else for some reason. She didn't really understand why, especially not since her and Ume had so much fun banging pots and pans together and singing songs in the early hours of the morning. Nevertheless, sitting on the couch, Rui eyed the front door like a cat, pouncing the instant someone made their presence known at the door to open it.

With everything that happened recently Retsu needed to lay low for a while. Too much in a short time frame would get her far more attention than she was presently equipped to deal with, especially after...

Well, it didn't bear thinking about. So when Rui sent an invite to come over and play video games she figured she might as well go, worst come to worst she led the trouble following her right to the Matsuis. Which honestly sounded like a whole load of not her problem. So she got freshed up, tossed on a shirt, shorts and her hood and left the dinky motel she was crashing in not too long after.

She considered grabbing some beers on the way before changing her mind. While she was sure she'd be in dire need of some by the end of the day she very much did not want to be in the same room as a Rui that got alcohol into her system. Instead she bought coffee, some sandwiches and a few bags of chips, failing to consider that caffeine might be even worse than alcohol. She couldn't be sure they had a coffee machine so she grabbed a pack of capsules that could fit on top of a mug, that was a much safer bet after all.

Just in case she bought some styrofoam cups as well.

With a plastic bag slung over her arms she stifled a yawn and begun her walk. No point breaking out the motorcycle for a short distance like this after all. Having decided to take the stairs as well to keep her blood flowing she made her way up and was nearly at the door to Rui's apartment when her phone went off.

"Hel-"

''Oh yeah and Sho is also coming!''

She supposed it was a good thing that it wasn't a video call so Rui couldn't see her expression. There was an elevator on the next floor that she could use to go back down, hardly any need to intrude on their family time. Several not at all faster steps took her past the door and closer to the staircase. Three of four at most before she heard a bell ring. Turning to look over her shoulder she spotted Sho, sighed and turned back around.

"Ah, that one ey. Musta missed the number."

Staring off into space, Sho waited for Rui to answer the door. After a minute, he would ring the doorbell again as she was clearly home, just hadn't gotten up yet to open the door. Moving the bag of food he was holding to one arm, he was about to take out his phone and call her when he felt he was being watched. Even in his civilian mode, he always ensured he was aware of his surroundings. Much to his surprise, it was a very familiar face. He knew she was coming but fully expected him to be the last one there as their last few meetings had started with her and Rui already together. "Evening Bakuretsu. Do you need a hand with your bags?" he pointed with his free hand, wondering if he had come unprepared. Then again he had done so much for Rui in the past that she was lucky he was even bringing anything at all.

"I don't think the doorbell is working again." It was not uncommon to find something broken in their apartment, whether it was because Ume had decided to munch on the foundation or Rui was doing her knife-throwing practice. He had been requested more than a few times to help with general repairs, which usually ended in chaos. The mustard gas incident was particularly damming.

"I'll open the door." he would reach through the door and fiddle with the lock before opening it himself. "I assume you're a video game fan? I've never played personally, but Rui has been pestering me, and I owed her one." he would slide his foot to push open the door and gesture for her "After you." He would enter shortly after her if she accepted his offer, ready to see what kind of disaster they cooked up today.

Changing her mind last minute, Rui decided to pull out a chair and climb on top of it, putting her hands on her hips and posing as her guests opened the door. She was the best gamer ever and she knew that, but Retsu and Sho didn't know that yet, so clearly she had to assert her dominance from the get go. Once the two entered her domain she laughed triumphantly, as if she had already won all the video games against them. How could she not be confident? Sho didn't play video games, and Retsu did look like a nerd, but she wasn't a video game nerd as far as Rui was aware.

In other words, her victory was assured.

''Welcome to the best video game night of your lives!!'' She raised her hands over her head. ''Hosted by yours truly, the best host ever who is totes gonna become Prime Minister one day! It's meee! ~'' She grinned widely as she finally took a good look at them. ''You look great besties!! Did you bring snacks?'' She hopped down from her chair and immediately ran up to try and pull the both of them into a group hug. ''If you let me have some I'll tell you about the game we're gonna be playing, but I won't go easy on you.'' She stuck her tongue out.

"Retsu's fine." She replied while shaking her head, only half realizing it might be interpreted as her referring to herself in third person. After all she didn't have all that much spare mental capacity that she was willing to waste on choosing her words. Many mercs she'd met and worked with had wildly different personalities when on the job as opposed to in private but this particular one had left quite the impression on her. More importantly, she hadn't exactly had time to prepare for this surprise encounter. So she did what she always did when faced with something like this. Pretend it didn't faze her in the slightest.

"Wha' should I call you? Subaru or Sho?"

Seeing him reach straight through the door Retsu wondered what would happen if she were to shine a flashlight at it right now. Would he lose his hand? Hmm, maybe she should see about getting a prosthetic eye after all. She could install a laser in it and find out. Something to consider later.

"Nah, kent say ah've ever played any."

It was mostly the truth. When she was still a 'little chirp' as her gang leader back then had called her the man had installed a game on her phone once and told her to try it. Said it was practically made for her. Retsu had been very unamused when she found out it was called angry birds and had learned the very next day that a pipe bomb stuffed into a mailbox was far more destructive than she'd expected. Not that it had caused her all that much trouble. She'd found another gang willing to take her in before too long. Aiming a distracted nod Sho's way she stepped through the door and came face to face with Rui.

"Yah, ah brought some." She said while mock-clapping at Rui's welcome. Half opening one of her plastic bags she revealed a party-sized mix bag of chips. The kind that had all manner of little baggies with different tastes inside. "Nah, ah've got a better idea. Every minute ya manage ta shot op ah'll give ya one of dese bags. E'ry five ya fail ah'm eatin' one mahself. Brought a timer so we ken keep track."

Stepping sideways to move around the chair she went walked in like she owned the place, briefly scanning her surroundings before plopping her bags down on the nearest table.

"So, 're we supposed to wait until it's night ta do this video game night thing?" She said while checking the time. "Still a bit off, nah? Ah yeah, nice place by the way. Love the decorations."

Retsu wasn't quite sure what all the bite marks and missing chunks meant but then again she'd never had an eye for art, much less the modern variety.

"Sho is fine" he would say in return, unsure how she got subaru out of his name. Maybe Rui had mentioned something about wanting a car? Either way, she said a lot of nonsense so he wouldn't dwell on it, instead opting to let them both in only to be greeted by his energetic little sister. She was always a fan of spectacles and he was certain that she only invited the two because of their inexperience with video games.

"I don't think Retsu or I have played a video game before." he would toss the bag of chips towards Rui certain that she could catch them. "It's customary to bring a gift whenever you enter someone's place." he would take a look around, eyes narrowing as he noted all the bite marks around the place. Pointing to one of the bigger ones, he would add, "You need to get her to stop. I'm not going to help with any more repairs if you let her do whatever she wants." he would take a seat at the table not entirely sure what to expect but knowing that whatever it was, it was guaranteed to be chaotic.

Rui's attention was laser focused on the bag of party chips from the moment she first heard the rustle of the plastic. She opened her mouth to protest, but didn't say a word and instead held out her grabby hands to try and swipe the bag from Retsu, although she was probably too short and too slow to get anywhere close enough. ''That's okay! Sometimes game nights start early!'' She nodded, only a master gamer like her would know these things, she couldn't fault the newbies for not knowing any better. ''Thank you! I decorated it all myself.'' Obvious lies, Lilian with Umeko as the muscle had most certainly done a majority of the work while she had slacked off. Not that it stopped her from just taking the credit all for herself to seem more impressive. When Sho tossed a bag of chips at her she quickly caught it and held it in her arms like a precious baby. A delicious snack baby she was going to eat later.

''That's perfect! I'll teach you all about games, by the time you leave here you'll be masters thanks to my superior intellect!'' She gloated confidently. ''What? But she's hungry! Maybe if you bought us more food she wouldn't think the walls and furniture looked so delicious!'' Unlike the other two, she walked over to the TV and fiddled with the console until it switched on to the first game.

''It's a race to the death!'' She exclaimed loudly, holding a controller over her head. ''Except not really, because if you die I can't beat you in the game anymore.'' By now the bit tune music was playing out of the TV, displaying the title of the game and the classic 'press any button to start'. ''It's called Kart Kart, it's a racing game.'' She took out more controllers. ''Don't worry, it's easier than driving a real car!'' Something she could confidently proclaim as someone who didn't have a driving license, yet had survived more than a dozen car crashes.

"Ah see." Retsu replied to Rui's statement that game nights could start early. She supposed it made sense. She'd taken part in several 'poker nights' where she'd finished extorting her targets long before sunset, there wasn't any reason to believe it might be different for game nights.

She just hoped this 'video game' of Rui didn't require any depth perception. The last thing she needed was to have to stare at a square of light without her eyepatch. It was bad enough that she had to take it off when working with a welder -she'd tried to leave it on once, that was the second closest she'd ever come to losing a hand- but at least then she was working on her passion and if the pain got too bad she could blow something up with the result of her efforts, there was no way she'd do it just to move some pixels on a screen. 

Hearing Sho comment on the decorations she looked between the pair with a single thought running through her head. 'Oh gods, there's another one.' She looked away to hide the fact that her face looked like she'd just bitten into a lemon. Opinions aside it was never a good idea to piss off the healer, one of the few things Hans had told her that actually made sense. Retsu still had no idea what a 'noob' was and honestly she couldn't care less about the German's incomprehensible prattling.

Seeing the controller Rui was holding up she marveled at how similar it looked to the ones she'd seen some people use to control drones. Perhaps she would be learning some useful skills today after all. 

"So, how's dis work?" She asked while accepting one of them, not about to make the mistake of pressing a button to check. Not after surviving the last time she made that mistake.

His eyes would narrow at Rui's cavalier commentary on the situation. "Seeing as that hole," he'd point to the one near the banner "Wasn't there when I was here last week, I'm guessing both Ume and Lil helped you." Rui had the unfortunate habit of lying constantly and overestimating herself. If she didn't have such a strong healing quirk she would have died years ago and he hoped she never ran into the reality of what quirk negation could do to her.

His shoulders would slump at the notion he was supposed to be a caretaker "You guys make plenty of money you just need actually to go OUT and get the food. Don't just make Lil do it everytime." dozens and dozens of times where they called him just to invite Sho to dinner only to reveal that he was supposed to bring the groceries and also make the meal. He would oblige occasionally, sometimes out of debts for their help in assignments of his own.

He would take the controller in hand, raising an eyebrow and fiddling it. It was completely alien to him, and that was clearly why he was invited. Rui had many talents...in her own mind. In reality there wasn't any better healer than her. He would look at the screen trying to understand what was going on with the little colorful bobblehead people on the screen in the go karts. It was...odd. "Yeah, what do the buttons do? And is there anything else I should know?"
