[Mafdet Khepri]

With tail swishing to and fro Mafdet Khepri sauntered through the rows and rows of fabric, each arranged in a shape so different yet so similar all the same. T-shirts, blouses and shirts in colors red, blue, purple and green. Jeans, trousers, leggings and all manner of other pants both long and short in rows upon rows upon rows. Dozens and more, all in case it's what you're looking for.

Humming to themself and swinging their arms they made their way further and further inside, clawed fingers carefully running over all the different textures and eyes roaming over the seams. All put together from threads and strings, woven carefully to accomplish a whole greater than its parts. Or at the very least different from what it would've been had no one ever tried to use all these great many seemingly unrelated things -dyes, plants, synthetics and more- to bring their idea to life. To paint their own little mark upon this world, impermanent though it may be. Each adding its own splash of color to the vast tapestry that is life, whether the splash is huge like a skyscraper or small as a bug. They wondered how far up and down it went. Turning to the one with the blond hair and the wondrous eyes standing next to them Khepri tilted their head in question.

"Do atoms have colors?"

Auden

Auden loved to go into malls just to see what the new fashion statements were. With how often it changed, sometimes he'd be dumbfounded with how weird some concepts came out to be. It was his job to keep on top of the latest things that were coming out, and to add them into his modelling as much as possible. Even if it wasn't his style, he sometimes he'd wear things just to get people talking because he knew that they'd be confused and interested to see why he chose it.

Today was no exception, as they were on the hunt for something that would fit the cover of his next magazine. With his mind distracted, Auden hadn't even registered that there was someone beside him. Looking over, he'd think to what he had just been asked and give a thinking gave to the individual. "Um, I suppose maybe? I'm not sure, not really a science person or anything." It wasn't he was going to school for after all. "Why do you ask?" He'd glance to see if they had anything in their arms. "Are you looking for something in particular?"

"Why not?" They shrugged while tilting their head. Asking was the best way to get answers or at the very least one of the best. Looking it up was another, not everyone she asked had the answers after all. Riddles wouldn't be fun otherwise.

"Oh, oh, I know this one!" Khepri replied with a wide smile. "A purpose in life, right? That's the answer, no? Did I get it right?"

Seeing Auden look at their arms their mouth formed into an O-shape in realization.

"Ah, you meant for this?" They continued while showing off their arms. "I'm looking for clothes that don't get caught in my joints. They keep tearing when they do, it's so annoying you know? Oh, I guess you don't, sorry. Your bones are on the inside."

They nodded to themself.

"Oh! Don't worry about that by the way. Most people's bones are on the inside. A lot of mine are too."

They frowned, a thoughtful expression briefly crossing her features before it vanished once more like snow before the sun.

"There's no clothes for inside bones though. What an oversight, I can't believe no one's thought of this before. Hmm, I guess it wouldn't be visible anyway."

Their eyes widened.

"Maybe there are inside clothes for bones. Hey, do you have bone clothes for your arms? I have sleeves for my outside bones but maybe I could get something for my inside bones as well like my neck. Do you know any stores that sell them? I've never had to look for any before so I don't know any myself."

Auden

Auden just stared down, confused as to what he had asked them. Was what he said confusing? Did he slur his words or use the wrong dialect? Neither seemed to be the case, but it wasn't like he could go back and check if it was true or not. Only now realizing the joints, he'd lean in a bit to see that it would be an issue. "Oh... So maybe things above the elbow?" He wasn't sure if there were ones on their shoulder area or not, but at the very least having clothing that was above their elbow would be one less thing to get caught in.

"I mean, I guess it's an issue only a minority of people have." Auden could make something for them, but he'd have to see what their sense of fashion was first. "I don't think that there are stores that do that, unless you want it custom made?" Clothing sometimes had different variations for mutations, but even then it was hard to find stuff. "Like, I have to custom tailor my clothing because of these." Auden would move to show his back more, revealing his big wings. "Perhaps... I could do that for you? If you can find clothing you like here, I can tailor it for whatever bones you want." That definitely sounded weird, but he couldn't correct it now.

"Yeah! That's not a bad idea." Khepri nodded while taking a look at the sleeves of their t-shirt. "Oh, I've had it too!"

It was always nice to find out you'd been smart in the past and what with great minds thinking alike it was likely that... who was this again?

"I'm Khepri, now that I think of it. Nice to meet you." They greeted Auden while extending their hand. Only after they did so did the thought cross their mind that they'd never gotten an answer as to whether they guessed the answer correctly. They supposed that was okay. Khepri hardly knew the answer to all the riddles they themselves asked either.

"That's true. If it was a problem for everyone then the problem wouldn't be a problem since it'd be normal and all clothes would be made for it." They said with a very self-sure nod. "Yeah, I do get custom orders sometimes. I have one coming soon at... which store was it again?"

They shrugged. It might take a while but eventually their legs would walk them there again by themselves. Maybe the store still have the order by then, maybe not. It was one of life's mysteries that Khepri would gladly find out if they didn't forget about it.

Their mouth formed into an O-shape when seeing Auden's wings, somehow having missed them until now. Nodding along to Auden's words Khepri smiled in response.

"Oh, you make clothes as well? I tried that a couple times. It turned out..." They blinked. "They didn't fall apart every time, sometimes they even lasted more than a day. Hmm, which bones do I want clothes for?"

They absent-mindedly took a cardigan from a nearby rack, fingers fiddling with the buttons as they considered their reply.

"Probably not the skull. I don't know how many clothes you've made but don't start with ones for the skull if you're new. I tried that and kept running into everything all day until it fell apart. They're very difficult to make right."

Under the impression that they'd just said something really smart they put the cardigan back where they got it from.

"Gloves are tough too, you need to count the fingers very carefully and they don't always work." Khepri still wasn't sure why that was. They worked perfectly fine when she put them on yet everyone else she gifted them to always complained. "Do you have problems with that too or is it just me? Hmm, do you think you could teach me how to make gloves that aren't picky about who gets to wear them?"

It was almost like they had a level or class requirement like in a video game and Khepri happened to be either too low leveled or the wrong class. They'd asked a clerk once whether they had clothes without a level requirement but they'd just gotten a funny look instead of a reply. Then the clerk asked them questions instead. Things like 'Do you want to open a new bank account?' and 'Are you here to make a deposit or a withdrawal?'. Khepri had just left at that point to find someone else that might have answers but who knew, maybe the clerk's next question would've helped after all? Hmm, maybe they should find that one again. Khepri vaguely remembered the words on their name card, they could probably find out where the clerk lives and ask again.

"This store doesn't have a lot of baroque clothes does it? That's fine. I like a bunch of other styles too. Dancewear, grunge rock, vibrant, streetwear -especially the pockety pants- and so on. I've always wanted to try dark academia too but I can't find any that don't break when I use them. What about you? What kind of clothes do you like?"
