xploration time was over for now. Farrin would meet with Jo again later. He still didn't know her all that well, but she was from the States so the both of them were learning the country together. Kind of sad considering this was Farrin's fourth year here, but he hadn't really spent much time studying his new home. His every effort was invested in training. Now though, with Sada back at Foundation, Farrin took it upon himself to really learn this new home.

The Omizutori Festival had begun, monks lighting their torches which, supposedly, cleansed their sins. A little too easy says him. It was a spectacle to be certain, but the time for leisure had passed. He had been tasked with another practice patrol. And, again, he was paired with Jun. After their last patrol, he wasn't sure how to feel. Jun seemed to have some general aversion to him, and admittedly he didn't always agree with her either, but when push came to shove she did what was right. That counted for something in Farrin's time-turned eyes. 

"Alrighty then, where are yuh', Mood Ring?" Farrin muttered to himself, approaching one of the temple grounds' larger pillars where they were supposed to meet.

He was about five minutes early. Nothing to worry about yet. It would be a change of pace to Jun in a good mood, but that might have been hoping for too much. If she showed up and they had a rather uneventful - at least in the ways of crime - patrol, that would have to count as a win.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Unbeknownst to Farrin, behind the pillar was today's training partner. The redhead would be sitting down with her back against the pillar, dozing relatively peaceably. The past 24 hours were hectic as she didn't realize she had been volunteered to help out around the festival grounds, and with them being so close to home she opted to visit her grandparents before she was set to be at the festival. Granted, she rolled in super late and the most time she got to spend was a nice breakfast, but it was better than nothing. They seemed happy enough, though her grandfather did tell her she should have at the very least spoken with her parents. That was a little unfair since she'd have all of Golden week to spend time with them. Either way, her lack of sleep had finally caught up with her, and having gotten there super early decided to take a nap. After a while her head nodded a little too far to the side causing her to start awake, staring at the wall briefly before pulling out her phone. It was about five minutes until start time, so she decided to get up and stretch out, readying herself for the coming patrol. Seeing that Farrin had just gotten here she let out a yawn, rubbing her eyes and glancing towards the festivities going on. "Guess that's good timing," she says, doing a quick check of her equipment. h, sure," Farrin replied. The bliss that was sleep still clung to Jun's features. Was she not sleeping well back on campus? If so, well, they had that in common. Ever since Sada left again, Farrin found he was lucky to get two or three hours of sleep a night. Without her healing presence at his side, his mind wandered to other times, other places. Rather than shut down, it went into overdrive. Fatigue had weighed heavy on his shoulders, and another sort of tiredness wrapped around his soul. 

It wasn't the first time he went through life sleep-deprived, and rather isolated, and it likely wouldn't be the last. Such was life. Shit happened and you pressed on as best you could. So, the time-turner started on beside the second-year student. 

"Not sleepin' well?" He asked.

If they were going to be paired up so often, he might as well start building that bridge. Heck, maybe Jun would get to work on her side of it. Her quirk appeared pretty powerful. In a scrap, the two could certainly lay out swathes of gangs, goons, and crooks, but she was one of the more distant students he had met. Farrin wasn't one to spark up a conversation with most for the sake of friendship, but he liked to think he didn't scare people off either. Peopling sucked, but you never knew whose hands you might have to put your life in tomorrow.

It was the most she was interested in disclosing; just because she was forced to work with Oberon again doesn't mean she had to like it, or be his friend. She had no interest in either, based on what little she had seen from him. She did have to be professional, and that's what she intended to do. With that out of the way she began her scan of the grounds. Things were already in full swing, and it wasn't something that she cared much for. Especially since she didn't think much on luck or a person's sins or whatever. Her stomach, however, was one to not complain if the event was one thing or another and was vocal in its reminder to Jun that the last thing she ate was from that morning. he bus? Oh boy. Farrin would have lost his mind traveling so slowly. He and Jo had taken the bullet train earlier this morning, then transferred to a standard train, and made the trip in all of a few hours. The time-turner was convinced he could have outrun the train, even the shinkansen, but would he be able to push his quirk to top speed for those hours? Well, that was a test for another time. 

"Shoulda taken the bullet train," Farrin commented, scanning the crowds. "Save yerself a bunch o' time that way." 

Time was the most precious of commodities, but he was sure she would bite back with her reasoning. Or disincline to answer. Either was par for the course in his experience with Jun. 

"Yeah, I dun' think we'll need ta' stop any muggin's' today. E'erythin' has been pretty quiet so far, well, aside from the festivities." Which weren't all that loud either. There was plenty of chatter, but nobody screaming, and no scenes were made. Back home, a festival of any kind was a boisterous affair. Things were far more reserved on this side of globe it seemed. 

"Yuh' e'er really celebrate this? The Omizutori Festival? Like actually celebrate? Maybe wit' family or somethin'?" 

He had originally come over here to learn more about Japanese culture. The practice patrol was assigned to him once the school knew of his intentions to attend. No reason to pass up an opportunity at hero work, or practice-hero work really.

Think I'd rather experience what old sailors went through." That, and with the bus at least she could at the very least catch some sleep. Which she did. It wasn't much, but some sleep was better than no sleep. "I stopped recognizing this one in high school. There's no such thing as luck. I also don't get the ritual." She'd have a much easier time explaining that she was atheist. But again, that was none of his business. And the same went for her family, even if they lived nearby. "Why, do you celebrate it?" This...was what she was worried about. The moment the words left her mouth she realized that was the most awkward thing she could ask someone. Especially someone that wasn't originally from Japan. She looked away, letting out a sigh. "Actually, forget I asked that. Stupid question." They began to pass by some of the pavilions, her thumbs beginning to spin the outer bands on her rings. he crowds continued their banter, all framed in smiles and content. Maybe there was someone watching over them. A gathering like this and no attack? A rare sight these days. The number of attacks Farrin was caught in, and had to explain away, the past few months could no longer be counted on fingers... even with toes too. 

"Luck is the last dyin' wish o' those that wanna believe winnin' can happen by accident.Sweat on the other hand is for those who know it's a choice." 

They were words Farrin repeated daily in his first few years of training. It was a line from an old motivational speech that always stuck with him. He wouldn't deny anyone's well wishes, but honestly, he didn't believe much in the way of luck either. As for the former comment. Well, at least that made some sense. Likewise, Farrin always considered going sailing, to feel the splash of the sea against his face as the old Irish had. Not quite the same comparison being that they were discussing a bus ride, but the comment, and sentiment, brought the little goal to mind. 

"Heh, no worries. Yeah, clearly I dun' celebrate it. But, in the years I've lived 'ere, I ne'er really took the time ta' embed meself' in the culture. Day in n' day out, e'erythin' went inta' trainin'. So, I'm tryin' ta' correct some o' that, learn what I can first hand. I'm no' much a believer in anythin', but I'd like ta' understand." 

Jun hadn't asked for the explanation, but maybe it would ease any potential embarrassment her question. He didn't have Sada at his side anymore, not while she was away with Foundation, so he'd take it upon himself to figure this place out. Before he could get back to it properly though, they needed to finish this patrol.

She was more weirded out by the fact that he answered. Granted, she asked, so...eh. Shouldn't have been a surprise that he would answer. That was whatever. After a few seconds though something he said caught her attention. Something so strange and so grievous at the same time that it took her way too long for her to process it. "Wait a minute, you've been here for years and have only just now started to experience what Japan can offer?!" There was a mindset she had to push outside in order to put on an air of politeness towards others, but dangit why did foreigners have to be so freaking weird?! "You come all the way from...Potato Land...? Potato Land! Learn the language but nothing outside of it, and...and...like, why?" Racism aside, it was a legitimate question, something she didn't quite understand. She knew if she visited some other countries she would try to at least immerse herself in the differing cultures or the like, try to make an effort to understand where she would be staying. n truth, he hadn't even really learned all that much of the language until after he arrived. Everyone at the Above & Beyond agency knew English, and you could get by a surprising amount of Tokyo without knowing Japanese. All of this was, of course, besides the point. Farrin's eyebrow rose immediately at the Potato Land comment. 

"Excuse me?" He started, "Potato land? Fer' one, while I was born in Ireland, I came 'ere from the States" He had two homes already, but neither was his anymore. Not really. One was where he was born, and the other was where a part of him died. Now, he was here trying to build something new. That didn't mean he wasn't protective of his heritage, his former homes. "Secondly, it might be best ta' research the root o' the association between potatoes n' the Irish before labelin' Ireland as such. N', despite the incredulity, yes, I chose ta' come 'ere. Why? UAU is considered one o', if not the best Hero Academy. I had ta' make a fresh start fer' meself ta' become what I wanted, n' there was no better place ta' do that than 'ere. Had a lotta catchin' up ta' do, so didn't really focus on much else than trainin'."

 Time quirks weren't easy work, less so when one spent some seven years running around the streets with zero guidance. Farrin cared about people, but he didn't always understand them. It was only after he met Sada that his eyes were opened to the new home he was building around himself. He wanted nothing more than to build it with her, so having made it into UAU while she was gone, he would take the time to learn more. He wouldn't, however, have the difficult choices he made along the way questioned by someone who knew nothing of him.
