iroshi Suzuki took another swing at Farrin with one of his bone blades. The lad's quirk allowed him to grow weapons made from his bones and increased his aggression. He had become one of Farrin's more regular sparring partners. He was improving, too, but Farrin hadn't lost a match to his peer yet. The time-turner drew his left shoulder back just an inch, the blade harmlessly passing him by. No wasted time. No wasted movements. Farrin was an ace in the art of the scrap. For months now, other students sought him out atop the hill at the back of the practice fields where he usually trained, asking him for help. This had become such a common occurrence that his hill had been nicknamed The Dojo. Other students, however, occasionally looked on from the distance.  

A small crowd watched as Farrin's fists battered the reinforced bone like a drum. With every blow, another crack boomed across the physical education grounds. Hiroshi was forced onto the defensive. If anything would get his blood boiling, it was being denied an aggressive approach. Hiroshi flourished on the offensive, but Farrin wouldn't budge, wouldn't waver in his attack. He had trained for several years before entering UAU's gates. His very first week at the university was marked by a sparring match against the former pro-hero, Professor Leonid, where he had nearly toppled the beast... before having his arm broken. Then he went and faced Dauntless. Another loss but another worthy match.

The flurry of fists was ceaseless. The only pause came when Farrin spun into a low kick that swept Hiroshi's legs out from under him. The lad was planted in the ground, and there he stayed, heaving. His gaze lacked the daggers he stared Farrin down with during their first meeting though. That was progress. Still, it was another point to Farrin.

Those gifted with quriks so strong that they are pretty much in a league of their own. He wasn't quite keen on considering wether or not he could take him and more about the actual consequences of using a quirk like that one. From the way the guy moved and did things, it was some kind of either precognition or, most probably, time manipulation. At least, that was what being talked about by the people around him. He was about to look who he would fight next but it seemed people had noticed him lounging about, given they had started giving him a wide berth, like he had some kind of forcefield that was dispersing the crowd. He too was one of the popular people, but not for the right kind of notoriety. Or at least, the kind people would not consider good. The perk of being a "ex-villain" with a "deady quirk". "...alright." Leonard mumbled as he pushed his leg off of the wall he was leaning onto for comfort. He much rather not create a scene just because some people had to point fingers. Besides, he was kind of burning time. He had some assignments to do and his own training to take care of. He waited for the people to inevitably part ways like the Red Sea, so he could walk away. He kind of had to cut near the two sparring partners but he didn't quite care about interrupting. They were about finished in any case.

hough the storm had passed, the tensions hadn't dissipated. It lingered between locked eyes. Hiroshi was panting, he was tired, but the thoughts were grinding between his mental gears. Could he continue? 


"Fine, fine. You win. You win," Hiroshi relented. 

"Was an honest n' worthy scrap, lad. Yer' certainly improvin!" Farrin replied, offering Hiroshi a hand. 

Farrin helped Hiroshi to his feet. It was odd. It was only a few months ago most people avoided Farrin. He took the two bullies who were making fun of Freja at orientation down to size, and then, for some reason, he was treated like a plague. Then, Miroru asked him to be a training partner. Then Freja. Then Hiroshi. One by one, his peers approached him. Shion had oddly stalked the time-turner, which was extremely odd, but it went to show how his reputation had grown. Heck, Gabe had interviewed him as some kind of send-off to the senior class. None of this had been what Farrin expected. Sure, hero society was a large part spectacle, but that wasn't why Farrin pursued heroism. He had other reasons. Authentic reasons. 

If his fellow students wanted to watch and learn, though. He wasn't going to deny them that. Too many at UAU, at least among the freshmen, didn't know their way around a scrap. A death sentence out in the field, where the stakes were real. 

"Alright then, lad. I'll meet yuh' in the cafeteria in a bit. I've ta' grab some stuff from me' room, then I'll head over." 

By "grab some stuff," he meant go call Sada. She was out with the Foundation organization again, helping the injured at some faraway hospital, but their breaks would line up in about a half hour, and her voice hadn't blessed his brain for a few days now. Their room was cold- lifeless, without his dragon. He did whatever he could to avoid it other than while he slept or was on the phone with her. It was like a piece of himself was missing. But that puzzle would be pieced together again for a few brief moments. And that he would cherish.

So, without another word, Farrin backed up to a tree atop the hill, snatched up his bad, and made for the dorms. Some of the other students dispersed as well. The spectacle was over for now. One foot fell below the other as Farrin let gravity do its part in speeding down the hill rather than his quirk. He was hungry, but food could wait. He had other priorities. 

A few steps, and he just passed another of his peers. A boy with white hair, almost like Kenta's, though in a different style. It was nobody he was familiar with, but their paths were about to merge into the lane leading to the dorms. 

"S'cuse me," Farrin said, just so the boy would know somebody was approaching from behind, then he stepped aside and passed him. They might not have known it, but they were like two ships passing in the night. A mix of personalities, circumstances, and character. A concoction just as potentially stable as it was volatile.

Same guy that was beating up the other guy. The one with the time quirk or something. ... Was it a time quirk? Or just some kind of clairvoiyance? Or just enhanced perception? Could he really see into the what would be? "So, is it time powers or super fast perception?" Leonard called out, deciding to check out possibly one of the rarer kind of quirks going about. His own powers were strong, made so by years of usage in the brutal conditions of underground rings, but at the end of the day he was as standard as any other emitter. "If it's time, you probably already know I would have asked this, and thus know that'd I'd ask why waste time trying to do heroing if you could use that power to get filthy rich?" He considered if he wanted to fight something like that. He quite didn't care where he was, but perhaps if this guy really had time quirk, it was probably best to understand the limitation before going head on.

arrin skid to a stop as the boy he passed called out his question. Mama O'Rourke didn't raise a liar, but she didn't raise an idiot either. Handing out tactical data for free? Absolutely not, especially regarding Temporal Resonance, a topic he rarely discussed. Still, compromises could be made. He hadn't really kept it a secret that his quirk was time-related. That much had become obvious to his classmates, and word had long ago spread. 

"Oh, it's a time quirk," he answered, turning to face Leo. He slowly backpedaled toward his destination, ready to take off if that's all the boy wanted to know, but facing him in case he had more questions. "Dun' quite work how most imagine, though. I could certainly make money off o' it," it was certainly how he survived his childhood, "but that wouldn't help more than meself n' I'm out ta' help e'eryone I can." 

A younger Farrin often used his quirk to steal, though only ever enough to get by. He didn't need the world in his palm. He only wanted to make it to tomorrow. Then, he saw it- who he needed to become, and since then, there was no going back. He could be a hero. He could help those in need. In other realities, he watched as he often became something horrifying and terrible, but ever since he saw Oberon, the "him" that became a hero, he knew his path was to do the same. 

"N' you? What's yer' quirk?" He asked, offering his own interest in kind.

He would envelop the whole place in eerie darkness, tendrils raising from the floor to wrap around and latch onto the young white haired man's body, coating him in the substance and creating a jet black suit of armor, all rubbery looking and shining in the dimmed light. He wasn't scared to show his powers to others, the premise of his quirk was simple to understand. It was his versatility with it that was the main threat in a fight. From the way it encroached though, it was clear that the young man before Farrin wasn't as innocent as most other students. "I trust this is sufficent explanation?" Leonard stated, looking over one gloved hand, but refusing to command his dark energy to recede. For the time being, he wanted a one on one of the with the time quirk guy. "And where does that want to do heroing come from?" He asked, walking closer. "Want for fame? Recognition? Or something else." Once he was face to face with the guy, not that he could go anywhere anyway, Leo waved a the void surrounding them. "People fear what they don't understand. If you expose yourself to the world... people will start fearing you. Fear turns to hate, hate to violence. Violence to death. Yet you wanna help people that could stab you in the back?"

ell that's interestin'," Farrin offered with an impressed whistle as the dark mass expanded around the pathway through the training field, layering over the concrete path itself, the grass, and created something of a dark corridor around the two of them in slow motion. Emitters came in all flavors. Shadow manipulation or some sort of unique dark power wasn't entirely outlandish. Some people could shoot fire. Others would summon ice. Fewer still could legitimately do things like spawn massive rubber ducks. Farrin toyed with time. Who was to say where the domain of quirks would end? And, if anything, the quirk seemed to match the user. Dark, broody type, it appeared. 

"Nothin' so shallow. Fame n' fortune might frame hero society, but it's the want ta' help those in need that sit at its heart- that's true heroism," Farrin answered, eyeing the umbra wall that now surrounded them.

He stepped around the periphery of the dark domain, leaning in to look the substance over. The world moved so slowly in his eyes, but the darkling at the shadows' heart certainly had a fair range of control over the stuff. Was he a freshman, too? Even this deep into the school year, the number of Farrin's classmates who exerted near masterful control of their abilities were few and far between. 

"Eh, sounds a morose outlook ta' me. E'eryone's afraid o' somethin', but the criminal percentile usually sits somewhere between zero point six n' four total percent in most countries. Somethin' like that." He didn't have the answers for every country worldwide, mostly the United States and parts of Western Europe, plus his studies weren't entirely exact, but the number sat somewhere around that range. Leaning away from the dark substance, Farrin turned his attention back to Leonardo. "Most people are lookin' fer simple happy lives, n' they deserve their fair shot at it. I'm jus' tryin' ta' make sure e'eryone that leaves home after breakfast is sittin' around the dinner table at night." It was something his mother said in her hero days, a sentiment that was impressed upon the young time-turner. Life was precious. Anyone who could defend it had obligations to do so- in one form or another.

"I, personally, find the whole Hero and Villain thing pretty... antagonistic." He would say. "At the most basic point of view, there are just people who use their powers to challenge the status quo, and others that use it to preserve it. Who's the hero and who is the villain can change right quickity split, like history shows time and time again." A pause. "I'm on probation, which you may already know, given that word about me pretty much spread all throughout campus just a couple of days after my arrival. Though, I'm not here to tell you an edgy sob story." Leo leaned in against the dark wall, showing that he had no particular ill intention towards the guy, but was quite interested in their private chat within the void he created. "That would make me a Villain, or well. Ex-Villain I suppose. From what you say, you make it sound like criminals intentionally go out of the way to harm others. Some psychopath may do that, but have you ever stopped to consider that most of "my kind" would rather get things done without having to fight some neon nerds in spandex suits?" Leonard wasn't exactly pointing the finger, but having been on both sides, he could quickly spot the hypocrisy of the whole deal. "Heroes make it their livelyhood to beat down people in style in the name of justice. It's rather funny. People look up to them and all... while they sit on fat stacks of blood money like celebrities. Not all that different from what I was forced to do to make it another day for a good while. The fun of it all being that the same people who cower behind heroes also enjoy throwing money to see two dudes beat the shit out of eachother. They don't really care about who wins, they just like the violence."  A snap of his fingers and the void subsumed back into his own shadow, though the black suit remained on. "Perhaps they should get people like you to do actual heroing. You guys can rewrite reality pretty much, go back in time and fix things before they even happen. Imagine preventing people from having to or being forced to go against the norm, or solving their problems that forced them to do things in the first place. I'd reckon that four percent could be dropped to zero. In a way, I kind of envy chosen ones like you. Perhaps with your powers I wouldn't have to have a miserable existance as I had. Or hell, maybe I wouldn't be as jaded as you see me today."

eon nerds, heh, that one almost baited a laugh from the time-turner. Farrin never broke eye contact. He snatched up and parsed through all of Leo's words. A villain on probation at one of the world's most prestigious hero academies. Odd, but who was he to judge? Farrin didn't know the lad's story. He had been too keen on training to tug on the grapevine at the start of the semester. And mama O'Rourke didn't raise a hypocrite. Farrin did some things he wasn't so proud of before his time in Japan. 

"Anecdotal evidence is all well n' good, but anyone that claims ta' be challengin' the status quo by hurtin the innocent are, in fact, criminals. I'll cede that desperation drives many criminals ta' the path they trod, but life spares no one o' pain n' anguish, yet more people than not remain within the confines o' the law," he started, thinking over his own circumstances.

Seven years spent homeless. There were times when desperation drove him to lie, cheat, and steal. He was far from some flawless "chosen one," but he didn't hurt people. He didn't take from those without abundance. It didn't wash away his crimes, but it offered him a unique perspective as well. Anxiety, anguish, and pain were a potent mix, and they could force someone to the edge, but it was up to the individual whether they jumped or not. Did they push those pains onto the shoulders of others? Or did they use it to become something greater? Farrin stood on that edge. He chose to make something of himself.

"Yer right, people can be barbaric, payin ta' watch people beat each other bloody, but that's a far cry from heroism against villainy. N' not e'eryone is guilty o' the former," he continued, considering the decline of boxing viewership before shifting back to the real meat of the discussion, "villains, left unchecked, would see far more people harmed. Sure, maybe some have decent intentions, but those've proven few n' far between. N' yeah, some heroes do the job fer the wrong reason. Doesn't mean the job doesn't need doin'. During the advent o' quirks, crime skyrocketed. Those people were't tryin' ta right the system's wrongs. They were abusin' their powers fer personal gain. Same as others might've wit' me' quirk ta' make themselves filthy rich. The crime rate only dropped after the first heroes put a stopper on all the insanity. It became a necessity, n' so heroism as a profession was born. That's why I'm 'ere, because I'm sick o' innocent people gettin' hurt fer the darin' ta work or school n' tryin ta' make it back home." 

The dark corridor subsided, unveiling the world once more. Grass, a walkway, the dorms in the distance, and their peers training on the opposite side of the field. How many of them were chasing fame and fortune? Farrin couldn't say, but he knew what he was doing here. He also knew bias - and hurt  - when he saw it. This guy had a warped perception, but it had been shaped by something. 

"Time dun' work like that. E'en if I could go back n' change things, I doubt it would jus' fix the world as we know it." 

He had tried many times over to trail along the threads of time. To save his mother and stop his father, but any attempt saw him drained instantly. Slowing time was a tiring affair. Going back? Impossible as far as he knew. 

"N' I wouldn't make such assumptions," Farrin said looking back toward the dorm, "like I said, time spares no one o' pain n' anguish."
