Rui was just walking along the quieter streets of Akihabara when some guy suddenly slammed her against the wall and lifted her off the ground, holding her by the throat. ''What are you doing? Lemme go!'' She hissed, not actually afraid of being strangled, but still finding it pretty inconvenient to get attacked out of nowhere. ''I finally found you! You're Mummy, I've been looking for you!'' Said the vigilante. It wasn't until she got a closer look that she recognized his face. ''I.. healed you.'' He slammed his fist into the wall next to her head. ''Try again you psycho, you stabbed me!''

''I didn't.''

She did.

It was a common tactic for a coward like Rui. Ambush people and leave them to slowly bleed out so she could extort and rob them to her heart's content. ''You did! You stabbed me and then you robbed me! I needed that money, man!'' Obviously not more than her, after all extorting people was how she made a living. ''Th-That was payment for the injuries I healed..'' She strained, he was strong, she wasn't sure if she could break out of this grip on her own, at least not until he got a little more tired, but who knew how long that could take. ''YEAH! Injuries you caused!'' He tightened his grip. ''What do you want me to do? I don't have your money.'' She squirmed, trying to think of a way out of this situation. If only she could reach her knife, if only one of her villain friends were here.

Momo was lost. Again. Which would be of no surprise to anyone that knew her. Like one of her many cousins that she was supposed to meet up with in Akihabara for some shopping. There was a new Vox merch drop that Momo just had to get her hands on ASAP!

“I followed all of your directions,” Momo whined into the phone at her cousin on the other end of the line. She hadn’t. “No! I didn’t take any of my dead-end shortcuts!” She had. Several of them in fact. Momo let luck guide her more than any GPS. One day she might realize that was why she always ended up so lost, but even if she did, Momo probably wouldn’t stop. She always met the coolest and nicest people when she was wandering around!

Speaking of which, Momo was about to turn down yet another of her unverified shortcuts when she heard weird sounds coming from the opposite direction. Her Hamburglar ladybug senses kicked in. It’s what Momo had instead of common sense. You know, the thing that would have had her calling the police instead of going to check out what was going on herself. And what was going on was very much not good. “I’m going to have to call you back.” She hung up on her cousin, shoved the phone in the bag hanging from her shoulder, then headed toward the noise.

“Hey! Leave her alone,” Momo yelled at the big bad Villain harassing a clearly innocent damsel-in-distress that she had stumbled upon almost immediately in the same tone one might scold a cat for chewing on something they shouldn’t. The fact she hustled her way over there, flapping her arms like one might shoo a cat off with didn’t help with how not seriously she seemed to be taking the situation. That was because nothing bad ever happened on her watch! She was too lucky for that! Just ignore the cast still binding one of said flapping arms. Momo certainly was.

“Go on! Get! Or else!”

Momo didn’t know what the or else was yet.

''You should pay like I did!'' Growled the vigilante, pulling out a small knife. ''A knife, really?'' She had to admit she was pretty disappointed. Her quirk healed through regular gun shots on the regular, a knife wasn't going to be very effective against her. Although, maybe if he tried stabbing her she could try wrestling it from him... Then a young woman with her arm in a cast started yelling at the man. Better idea.

''Help me! He's mean and also evil!'' Rui cried, kicking her little legs desperately. She didn't recognize the girl who was helping her and she also wasn't very threatening. Not a fellow villain then? She was pretty brave to stand up to a guy like this and what was that white stuff around her arm? A mutation? A weapon perhaps? ''Quick shoot him down! He's gonna kill me!'' She closed her eyes to really sell it, or something like that, she needed to be convincing after all! ''You- this is not!'' The guy started to panic and then suddenly let go of Rui. ''I can't let anyone see my face!'' He muttered, covering his face as he ran away down the street.

''Bestie..'' Her eyes lit up as she looked at Momo, running over to her side eagerly. ''Bestie you saved me!! How did you do that? Was it your weapon?'' She pointed at Momo's left arm cast. ''I didn't see what you did, so you must've been really fast!''

A very small part of Momo’s already small brain was surprised that her efforts of scaring off the bad guy had worked. Maybe being a Hero wasn’t as hard as the professors at UAU were making it out to be! Or maybe Momo was just a natural at defeating bad guys and saving people! She must really radiate that Plus Ultra Hero energy. Momo couldn’t help but puff up with pride a little. Especially when the other girl called Momo her favorite thing besides Hero.

Bestie.

It was good Momo didn’t have an explosive Quirk. She would have exploded on the spot from excitement. She wanted nothing more than to make everyone her new best friend. Little did she know that the person she saved wouldn’t have even been phased by a random explosion. Exposure therapy apparently worked wonders according to some. Which would be pretty concerning for Momo if she knew. The earlier comment about shooting the bad guy had also made a nest of worry at the back of her mind, but it was currently buried beneath the thrill of success and a new friend.

“Bestie?”

Momo’s eyes lit up in a reflection of the look Rui was giving her, like mirrors. Fitting, because as much as they were similar, they were as opposite as two people could be at their cores. Not that Momo knew that either. All she knew was that she had saved this girl that was now calling her bestie and seemed to be both in awe of her and confused by Momo’s cast.

“Eh? Weapon?” Momo lifted her arm up. Her words came out slower than normal even in spite of her enthusiasm—apparently this girl had a sensory processing issue since she hadn’t caught everything Momo had done according to her own words. Momo completely missed the point that Rui thought she had used the cast in some manner. “This thing? It’s not a weapon! It’s my cast! Though I guess I could bonk someone with it if I had to, but it would hurt me too.” It may or may not have happened recently enough for Momo to be sure of that. Speaking of getting hurt…

''That's you!! Bestie!'' She smiled, pointing at Momo. To her everyone was a bestie, but that didn't make the label any less special. Momo was her own brand of bestie, the kind of bestie only she could be and most importantly, the bestie who saved her from confronting the consequences of her own actions! ''A cast?'' She leaned in closer to inspect the thing like she was trying to decipher ancient cave paintings. Then, at her own slow pace she finally put two and two together. ''Something happened to your arm bestie?'' Since she said bonking someone with it might hurt that was the only conclusion she could draw. Oh- right she was the damsel in distress here.

''I'm okay! That was a really close one, but you saved me bestie! I'm Rui by the way!'' She looked at the cast again and then an idea began to form in her head. ''You know if you hurt anywhere I can take the pain away.'' She pointed at the cast. ''Injuries, broken bones, headaches there's nothing I can't cure with a quick use of my quirk. I can even reattach your hand if it falls off!'' If Momo saw her quirk she would probably be super impressed and even think she's awesome, thus making her more likely to like Rui as a bestie. Maybe if she was lucky, they could even fight after and she could get to see just how strong her bestie really was. ''I'll do it for free too! You get the bestie discount, and you did save me!'' She smiled expectantly, seeking validation in Momo's eyes.

Rui talked so fast that she gave UAU’s resident motormouth a run for her money. “You can do all of that?! That’s so AWESOME! I wished my Quirk was even half as cool! I bet you can help a lot of people!” Momo bounced from foot to foot, the balance of such a movement thrown off slightly by the cast’s presence. All Momo wanted in life was to help people. Well. That and to eat lots of sweets, and be happy, and find love, and maybe follow in the footsteps she had imagined her father had taken even though her mother refused to tell her anything about him. But helping people was definitely at the top of the list!

Right under eating the sweets.

“And you’d really heal me? For free and everything???”

Momo had gotten injured before the newest nurse had been hired on. She was doomed to heal the old fashioned way. At least she was until she had met Rui. “Wait until Jun hears! She’s the one that did this to me! Apparently dropped me right on my head too, so I bet she’ll be super surprised if I go back to school and my arm is all better!” Momo had no idea she was speaking to yet another victim of Jun being a menace. It was funny how fate worked.

''No way bestie!! I bet your quirk is amazing, what does it do? Show me, show me!'' She tried to look behind Momo, as if she was hiding her quirk behind her back or something like that. ''Free and everything! We're besties after all!'' She nodded insistently. Even if she wanted to charge her, young people didn't tend to carry that much and Momo looked young. Besides, a broken arm was child's play for her quirk, she would hardly feel tired after healing such a minor injury, especially if it had already been healing organically for a bit. ''Jun?'' She narrowed her eyes a bit. Tokyo was a big city but... Judging purely on looks Momo was around their age so it wasn't unthinkable. ''So, Jun did this?'' She frowned, they had a common enemy!

''Don't you worry bestie, I'll fix you right up!'' With newfound determination, Rui was already going to heal her, but now she was hellbent on fixing her arm. ''Then we can kill Jun together!'' She smiled brightly, unwrapping her own skin on her left forearm, revealing nothing but her skeleton underneath, almost like Rui was some kind of quirk-powered puppet, nothing but skin and bones. ''Hold still, this'll only take a second!'' She winked, and if Momo allowed it she would try to wrap the skin around her good arm, letting the warm healing energies flow through one arm and into the other, like a weak pulsating wave. While the sensation of the healing travelling through her body was faint, the results were anything but. If all went according to planned, Momo's arm should be all fixed up and back to normal within a few seconds. ''Like it was never broken!'' She grinned proudly, wrapping her skin back around her own hand one strip at a time. ''Now, tell me how she wronged you! Did she falsely accuse you of trying to attack her? Did she call the cops?!'' She looked up at Momo with big curious eyes, she had to know every detail of how her bestie had been wrongfully attacked.

Rui’s request for Momo to show off her Quirk had the latter stuck on considering the consequences of doing so. Law was one of Momo’s worst subjects at university. It wasn’t because she wanted to break rules, there were just so many that it was hard to keep up with them! Were random alleys private property? Did private property have to be Momo’s specifically? Was it still illegal if she didn’t get caught?

Momo’s bruised brain was struggling even more than normal. So much so that she almost missed Rui casually plotting Jun’s demise. Of course, Momo didn’t take the use of the word kill literally. She was eighteen and went to a school full of people with big powers and even bigger personalities. Kill was tossed around when people were frustrated with other students more often than not. Momo wasn’t comfortable when people said it in those moments and she wasn’t comfortable with it now. She would be waaaaaay less comfortable if she knew Rui meant it literally. But she couldn't possibly! Besides, cute girls didn't go around killing people.

“Oh! No! We do-”

She was stopped from correcting Rui by seeing the other girl’s… skeleton. “WHOA!” Momo had never seen a real skeleton before. A boy with a balloon head, yes. But a skeleton and skin that rolled off like toilet paper? Nope. She was impressed.

Momo was even more impressed when the Quirk did exactly what Rui said it would do—heal her arm. It was still stuck in the cast, but the constant ache from it vanished. Left behind was only the lingering warmth from the curative energy. If Momo’s eyes got any wider from surprise and awe, they were going to fall right out of her head and Rui would have to heal them too.

“Whoa,” she repeated, though quieter this time. Another side effect of the awe she was experiencing. And a little envy. Momo would love to be able to help people like that so easily. Rui’s continued questioning drew Momo out of her own (and relatively empty) head even as she flapped her bound arm to relish the absence of pain.

“Oh! Well, I hugged her and she… What was the word? Suplexed me into a table? She broke my arm,” Momo paused to point at the now unbroken arm, then continued, “-and put me into a coma! But it’s okay! The coma only lasted two days, most of the amnesia cleared up, and she brought me cookies after I woke up then apologized while helping me study all the things I forgot when my head got bonked!”
