Tokyo, The Dream World Festival, 7:00 pm.
It happened so suddenly. No one was really sure what 'it' was, but people were dropping like flies around you, the entire Dream World festival affected by this mysterious phenomenon. People were falling asleep and many found their quirks to be swapped with others in an erratic manner. The dreams people found themselves in were hellscapes, but the others didn't fare much better in the waking world.
Not that the dreaming had much to say as you watched the world around you descend into complete anarchy and madness.
Heroes and vigilantes did their best to fight back against the rampant wave of crime that rose following the dream incident, but many either had their quirks swapped in the attack, or were already asleep before the fight had even begun.
Not you. Whether you like it or not you are awake and it is up to you to respond to this nightmare disaster. Will every part of you survive to see the end? Will your loved ones and friends who have fallen asleep ever wake up again, or have they been sentenced to death?
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Ward Shibuya, Local Convenience Store, 10 pm One Day after the Dream World Incident
Things in the outside world were not looking good, whether it was because the city was initially in shock or perhaps a lack of time with their new quirks; the second day had made things much, much worse.
With everyone beginning to acclimate, power struggles had popped up everywhere. With a large chunk of the population out of commission, it wasn't hard to guess that criminals and villains alike would take advantage of the chaos. The problem with an organized force vs. an equally strong unorganized force is that you can't rely on support when society breaks down. This exact scenario was in full display, with parts of Tokyo being annexed by criminal groups and, in some cases, a lucky scumbag who hit the quirk lottery. It was a battle of attrition everywhere, all at once.
In one particular area of Shibuya there was a standalone store that had been vandalized and had its sign replaced by a homemade one that said "ENTER FOR THE TREASURE HUNT". It was definitely not suspicious at all, and the careful observer would notice that whenever someone was foolhardy enough to enter, they didn't come out. Odd, considering how small the actual space was, but anyone with half a brain or anyone who had perhaps just finally gained one could tell this was a trap.
A single figure paced back and forth in front, a few yards from the entrance. Upon closer inspection, it was obvious that this was a human...with a mushroom head. Perhaps not too unusual given how prevalent mutants were in society, but still oddly placed. His movements depicted him as nervous, waiting for something or perhaps someone, as his 'eyes' would flit between the entrance and the direction he was walking in.
If only there were someone who didn't have an issue conversing with anyone and everyone. Perhaps they could figure out what the situation was?

''Maybe don't go out if you can't handle the heat, idiot.'' She chuckled as another person around her suddenly collapsed out of nowhere. Either some kind of flash mob was going on, or everyone just decided to get sick at the same time. Either way she was highly amused, right up until she fainted herself. When she woke up surrounded by sleeping people she didn't really question it. In fact, she was feeling a little sick herself so she just groggily made her way back home. Maybe there really had been some bad stuff in the food. Passing out was hardly new to her considering her recklessness and her powers so she didn't think much of it. Instead of taking the stairs back home she took her usual shortcut and jumped over the edge, landing in the dumpster she knew was always parked in the same place. The landing hurt badly. Nothing new there. But then it kept hurting and kept hurting. ''Are you asleep? Wake up!'' She looked down at her wrist and slapped it, as if she was scolding her quirk as she continued to limp on home. When she finally did get home she didn't have the energy to do anything and just passed out on the couch until the sun came up. She didn't notice until the morning after that she had dried blood on her leg. The only question was whose blood was it? She didn't remember killing anyone at the Dream World Festival. Well, whatever, she had to meet up with Loki Bestie about her payment for killing those 3.000 heroes singlehandedly. Odd that her leg still hurt, that should have stopped long ago. It almost made her wish she had just told Loki to meet her at her apartment instead of all the way over in Shibuya, but whatever she needed the money and she couldn't pass up the opportunity to annoy him for the day. ''What's his deal? Did Loki hire him?'' She talked to herself, waiting for her bestie to show up as she ran a hand through her hair and then had a sudden, terrifying realization. ''M-My horns!!'' She frantically reached for her phone and noticed that her red hands weren't red at all. ''My hands!'' She switched the camera on to see her reflection. All her mutation features were gone. No weird eyes, no demon horns, no fangs, no red tattoos. Aside from still looking like herself she just looked like any ordinary blonde-haired woman. ''What the fu- OW!'' She winced and dropped her phone as it seemingly zapped her. Then she shook her hand and looked at it confused. ''Ow???'' She asked herself, or perhaps the universe. Hurting from a little bit of electricity? What the hell was going on? Whenever she inevitably did see Loki arrive she would call out to him if she recognized him. ''Hey bestie!!'' She waved, ''didn't know you invited more people to tag along!'' She pointed at the mushroom-headed guard and Khepri. ''And treasure, really? Did you turn my payment into a game?'' She smiled gleefully, completely skipping past the fact that she didn't look like her usual self. facadeMafdet KhepriMatsuTL;DR: Rui's quirk gets swapped for an electricity quirk, but she is largely unaware of this and only discovers her mutation features are missing moments before meeting up with the others to get her payment from Loki. She thinks Loki invited the mushroom guy and Khepri and assumes her payment is actually somewhere behind that treasure sign that leads into an obvious trap.

Post by Mafdet Khepri on Mar 12, 2024 2:02:19 GMT
Entropy. It was the end of all things. The key to the second law of thermodynamics and the cause of its equilibrium. Khepri had never understood it in the past. Not really. They thought they did but now, now they knew they hadn't. For twenty seven hours Khepri had wandered the streets of Tokyo, their physique unfamiliar and their mind overflowing. Energy followed the path of least resistance and Khepri's mind had opened, letting in the floodgates of knowledge at a rate far beyond what they could handle. The vacuum created by the acquisition of their new quirk was causing every memory to be soaked up like a sponge, engraving every single detail of every single thing they saw, heard, smelled, touched or tasted with an intensity that made them believe it was done with a hot iron. Khepri had always been inquisitive, their curiosity easily aroused and chasing every single whim that came to mind. Twenty seven hours. That was all it had taken for them to reconsider their perspective. Logically they knew that the intense sensory overload would fade over time. They had gained a quirk that its original owner had adjusted to over a lifetime in a single moment without a hint or the slightest bit of warning. The rate at which memories were filling the catbug's mind without any signs of even a single one being lost could not possibly be sustainable. Right? Entropy. That was what Khepri sought. Nothing maintained its original state entirely and once changed they could never be unchanged. This whirlpool of knowledge being guzzled up by the vacuum of Khepri's newfound mental capacity couldn't possibly last. Right? Regardless of whether or not it could Khepri had decided to be proactive about finding a solution. There were no other options. With every sensation neatly sorted, categorized and stored sleep did not come easy. The trains of thought that came and went whenever Khepri was on the verge of falling asleep were now followed to a conclusion, resolved with an intensity that bordered on the fanatic as link after link laid formed tracks that crossed through every single experience the catbug had ever pondered. Sitting still was not an option. That way laid madness. Entropy. Khepri hoped they were wrong about it as much as they hoped they were right about it. They didn't know what they'd do if this change couldn't be unchanged. The Mafdet family was heavily reliant on their visual mutation to maintain the power they'd amassed. Khepri stared down at their five-fingered hand. At their lack of exoskeleton. Below they could feel their feet trod onwards, the hours having allowed them to learn to compensate for the lack of balance caused by their lack of tail to assist the dizzying differences due to sound no longer entering from the pinna atop their head. If they'd never regain their old mutation... Entropy. Their life would see an irreversible change. News from the outside was not cut off. They knew this was not a world-wide event. Only Tokyo faced this calamity. Of all the Mafdets only Khepri was affected. Only their life be changed to the point they could no longer coexist. Entropy. ...would that be so bad? Entropy. It was a game of chance. On a universal scale the odds tended to equalize yet for the individual probability held far less sway. Compare it to the size of the world. The immensity of the solar system. The immeasurable breadth of the universe. What was Tokyo but one small dot? Entropy. It could be reversed on a scale such as this. The situation was far from hopeless, every step Khepri took and every bit of information their mind parsed carrying them just a little closer to a solution. It could be argued that for a single student to make such a big change was naive or even a fool's errand but Khepri had a very different opinion on the matter. With their newfound quirk finding a solution was inevitable. History was a tapestry where by itself each person's actions might look small but every individual thread shaped it, bringing irreversible changes with them. There was a simple word for it. Entropy. Every single action made by every single person mattered. It slowly moved existence towards a new state, imperceptible as it might be. Khepri was determined to make the change they made count. They'd help solve this. No matter how much sleep it cost, what sacrifices they had to make or how long it would took. Their feet ached from walking, their additional fingers twitched with dysphoria, the muscles on their forehead and around their ears stung from the now illogical muscle memory governing their constant acts and their lower spine pulsed painfully from the change in posture that refused to come natural to them. Mankind was an adaptable species marching headfirst into the jaws of change but even for then adjusting took time. The only way to do so was to keep going so Khepri did, ignoring that every memory that solidified was tinged by discomfort and pain. There were far worse things. Entropy. "I'm not afraid of you." Khepri spoke to the person pacing back and forth in front of them, their wide brimmed head moving to and fro as they stepped. Mushrooms. They were decay as an extant form of life. Entropy taken physical form. Was it any surprise that the catbug's eye was drawn to the stranger the moment they came into view and that they immediately sought them out? Their new analytical skills had let them come to the realization over the past day that it was startlingly common for the key to resolving to situations laid in metaphorically relevant individuals or situations. Why that was they knew not but the more they peered into the depths of their mind the more evidence for the theory they found. Whether it was correct or not Khepri latched onto it like it was their lifeline. "Please tell us, do you know what's going on here?" They asked with a hesitant stutter, their voice like spun glass as they awaited a reply. Unfocusing on the one in front of them even as they listened their eyes took in two more figures standing a bit further like a camera adjusting its depth of view. They raised a five-fingered hand, offering them a wave that twitched as if about to turn into a beckoning gesture. Desperation had a way of setting people in their ways and stubbornly causing them to disregard other opinions but Khepri knew enough -had learned enough- to realize that they could not handle this alone. They could only hope the pair was here to help. TL;DR: After spending more than a day sleeplessly walking the streets of Tokyo looking for a solution to the ongoing Nightmare Khepri finds themselves in front of a convenience store in Shibuya. With their mental state in flux they latch onto the first tangible problem they can find and question the mushroom-headed figure in front of them while waving at Rui and Aiden. ------ Tags: Matsu | Rui Matsui | facade

Aiden Markusson was not having a good time. Yesterday, people just started collapsing? For no reason? So many people unconscious, just like that. Not everyone, though. For the few that were still kicking around, shit was bad. Quirks were switching around like some fucked up Secret Santa, and Aiden apparently wasn't on the list. Still quirkless! So now he just had to watch as the lucky ones stumbled around with Quirks that weren't even theirs. It had taken a total of five (5) minutes for social order to entirely break down, mostly cause heroes and police were very suddenly understaffed. He'd barely made it home intact, shutting himself in and praying that some rando on a power trip didn't break in and snap him like a twig. Aiden was no stranger to all-nighters, but normally it was simple hyperfixation that drove him through them. This time it was fear, which was certainly less familiar. The night passed, and then the day, until it was sunset once more. A full day since whatever the fuck happened.
A message from Rui broke the trance that he usually fell into when coding. Good to know one of his strongest allies was still alive, but the message was weird. Why did she wanna meet up suddenly, and why all the way in Shibuya in front of a random convenience store? Either way, he made his way there on foot. The familiar voice startled Aiden, prompting a "-who the fuck?" before he saw Rui. Same blonde hair, same height, same head-empty smile. Yep, that was her alright. Not a mutant any more, though. What was her new Quirk? "Hey, Capricorn. Liking the new look! Bloody and bruised is all the rage right now." At her next line, Aiden raised an eyebrow. He'd never seen either of those people before. Nor this weird store, especially since it was her idea to meet here and she showed up first. Forgetting that sarcasm was significantly less common in Japanese speech, he played along. "Uhh... yeah, sure, it's a game." He laughed to himself. If nothing else, Rui was a source of amusement. Khepri's interaction with the mushroom guy was weird, though. The wave... was she asking them to come closer? This whole thing was sus as hell, no way he was going in there willingly. "Fuck's up with her?" He asked Rui, voice lowered. Stress Level: 10%
tl;dr - Malding because Quirkless, pulls up to the store - Blonde woman jumpscare, playing along (sarcastic tone) Rui Matsui - Not going in there willingly, but has no choice in the matter >:3 - Get a load of this guy Mafdet Khepri Matsu

Special Ward Shibuya, Local Convenience Store
Mushroom Man would stop pacing as the three individuals approached, albeit for entirely different reasons. He initially placed his hand on the hilt of his blade but eventually relaxed once he realized these weren't the same ruffians from before. He sighed a breathe of relief and would speak to Khepri "thee shouldn't beest afraid of me young one" he would give a bow also addressing the other two "unf'rtunately i doth knoweth what hath happened h're mine own cousin and i w're chasing down some ruffians at which hour that gent hath followed those folk into yond building" he'd point to the convenience store "t hast been an hour and those gents has't not hath returned"
At that moment, the building entrance would light up and whether the group was prepared or not, they'd feel a pull as if gravity itself was forcing them inside. If resisted, the pull would get stronger until they were launched into the building only to be greeted by-
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Hall of Mirrors
The inside of this building didn't reflect the outside. Anyone smart enough would realize that this was a space generated by a quirk, as physics doesn't allow for dwellings like this to exist. On the inside, it was eerily quiet so quiet that one could almost hear the individual heartbeats of the quartet.
The silence wouldn't last for long as a tremendous BOOM would be followed by a bright illumination of the room. The group would find themselves in the center of an endless room of geometric shapes, surrounded by colorful reflections and lights. Upon closer inspection, these geometric shapes were multicolored mirrors; looking directly at them would invoke a feeling of wonder.
Mushroom Man would be the first to speak. "This lodging is huge" was what he said, but what the others would hear was "This lodging is tiny" Of course, Mushroom Man only heard the former and not the latter. Not being able to communicate properly seemed to the first obstacle. Good thing this group wasn't very chatty or it wo-

Aiden is, once again, startled when someone is very suddenly talking to him (current events are not good for his paranoia). When Mr. Mushroom Man starts talking, Aiden finds he can only understand half of it at most. Gesturing to the other two present, he interjects. "Can someone tell me what the fuck he's saying? I don't speak samurai!" Eventually, especially if conveyed to him, Aiden gets the gist of 'my cousin went in there an hour ago, didn't come out.' Before Aiden can voice how much of a red flag that is, though, he felt himself being pulled off his feet. Pulled sideways. Towards the building. "Huh? The fuck is... no, no! Absolutely n-" The building wasn't considerate enough to let him finish.
The sudden silence threw Aiden off, then the 'BOOM!' stunned him momentarily. Blood pressure rising. Shielding his eyes from the brief light, Aiden was speechless. This... room? Building? Place? Whatever it was, he was in total awe. A fractal maze of light and colour, a house of mirrors on steroids, it was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen. For a short time, what felt like minutes to him, Aiden just stared. Stared with stars in his eyes, reflected literally in the screen of his mask.
It took Mushroom Man's comment to bring facade back to his senses. Wait...tiny? "What don't (do) you mean? This place is tiny (huge)! Way smaller (bigger) than it shouldn't (should) be, wrong (right)? Like, that wasn't (was) a convenience store. Did some Quirkless (Quirker) do all this?" He gestured vaguely at the space around them. Then, another thought came to mind. This guy didn't seem like the type to fuck up his words, old-fashioned as he was. Maybe there was some kind of trick to this? "Maybe it isn't (it's) fucking with how we see things, the same (differently) for all (each) of us? We should split up (stick together) and be careful (not) to just trust what everyone else isn't (is) saying. God doesn't know (knows) how small (big) this place really isn't (is)..." He turned to face the others, trying (and failing) to convey a coherent strategy for making their way around.
Note: What is heard during dialogue is written in bold, with the intended meaning next to it in parentheses.I.e. "I hate (love) logic puzzles, this is gonna be fucking awful (so much fun)!" tl;dr - What is blud yapping about - Stress Level: 20% - Wonderstruck, just staring. - Snapped out of it, responds to Mushroom Man (ineffectively) Matsu - The Plan Is Simple™️ (Incomprehensible) Mafdet Khepri Rui Matsui

''You do?'' She blinked her eyes, then grinned widely. ''That's great because it's totally intentional.'' All according to the great Rui world domination plan. ''A game?!'' She said a little too loudly. ''You're telling me you made my payment into a game? Are we going on a treasure hunt?'' Her sarcasm detection level was zero as always. She laughed and started walking towards Khepri and Mushroom guy. ''Bestie you're a riot!'' She said to Facade, then looked at Khepri again, waving back. ''They're a performer.'' She said like she had seen them act before. In reality, this was her first time seeing or meeting Khepri. When Mushroom guy spoke she understood... About ten percent of it. ''Why do you sound like that when you talk?'' She asked bluntly. When the entrance lit up, so did Rui's eyes, amazement and a big smile on her face as they were sucked into another adventure. ''Lights! So many lights! Loki you did all this for me? You're a bestier bestie than I thought.'' She approached one of the mirrors and stared at herself before remembering something. Turning to face Mushroom guy and Khepri she addressed herself. ''I'm Rui (I'm not Rui).'' She tilted her head at their conversation. ''Tiny? (Huge?) Loki, you aren't (are) making sense!'' Walking up to Facade, she tried to light tap him on the arm. ''Check this out! (Don't check this out!)'' If she was fast enough, Facade would feel a light shock of electricity, not enough to do damage, but enough to startle someone if they weren't expecting it. Being the believer in equality that she was, she also tried it on Khepri and Mushroom guy. ''Your turn! (Not your turn!) and you're next Samurai speaker! (And you're not next Samurai speaker!)''She crossed her arms and furrowed her brow. ''See things differently? (the same?) Loki Bestie, you're not making any sense. (you're making so much sense!)'' She huffed and walked over to look at another mirror. ''Maybe I don't trust what you're saying! (do trust what you're saying!) I'm gonna go over here, (I'm not gonna go over here),'' She started walking further away from them. ''And if you follow me, you're a loser (winner).''Mafdet KheprifacadeMatsuTL;DR: Rui is convinced Facade planned all of this. She waves at the Mushroom guard and Khepri and is excited about being pulled into the building. Inside she is amazed at first, and even tries to zap the others with her quirk. However, getting frustrated with the confusing conversation she starts walking away.

Entropy was not the sole force governing the universe. It wasn't even one of the four fundamental forces. For that matter, it wasn't a force at all. Now, gravity. Gravity existed. As one of the four fundamental forces it was powerful too. It was the attraction of masses towards each other based on their density, at least from what Khepri remembered reading in books that were much smaller than the one strapped to their back but no less thick. Between their newfound extra brain all fitted into their same size head and their original personality none would argue Khepri wasn't dense and given all the extra space crammed into the convenience store clearly it was dense too. While they weren't thinking about it the sudden pull made sense to them. But they were getting ahead of themselves, their increased intellect acting so fast Khepri was thinking about an event that happened after one they hadn't thought about yet. Winding back the clock they thought about their reply to the fungi on behalf of the fun gal and the fun guy before they were all attracted to the house. "Verily, they hath not returned to thee for a wholeth ring o' the bell? Perturbing. Deeply respectful the oneth before thee queries whether thou hast found the twiddling of thumbs vexatious?" Khepri answered the mushroom man fluidly, their words not even pausing as gravity decided to turn sideways. That was no excuse to be rude after all, especially given that they might be the one best suited to communicating with this person. Back when they'd first studied Japanese the textbook they'd used to learn the language had been outdated by several centuries. Getting through customs had taken ages and relearning the more modern version -and then the current version after their second mistake- had taken even longer. They were halfway through pondering how they'd entered the building sideways yet landed perfectly on their feet when their senses were suddenly overloaded. As if the perfect memorization they suffered from wasn't enough now darkness and silence were suddenly replaced by an incredibly loud noise and overwhelming visual stimuli from all directions. Almost instinctively they squeezed their eyes shut to block out the most bothersome of the two until they could adjust. It didn't take long, Khepri's mind going on a tangent within less than a second and their attention barely remaining on the scene around them when they opened their eyes mere moments later. For all anyone knew it could have simply been a long blink. Why, Khepri recovered completely just in time to hear the mushroom man speak. They nodded. He was right. Compared to how vast it looked on the inside the convenience store was incredibly tiny. "̵̮̚I̶̛͈ ̶̖̊ä̵̦g̵͓̈́ŕ̵̡e̸̱̽è̵͔,̸̱̂ ̸̼͂t̶̻̅h̸̭́i̸̙̊s̵̟̒ ̴̹̐p̷̨͝ľ̶̜a̴͎͘c̷̳̒e̶̕ͅ ̸̛͓ị̷̒ṡ̵̹ ̴̠͝t̸̤͆ḭ̵̅ṋ̸̒y̶̝͝.̵͇̿"̴̢̏"I disagree, this place is huge." They confidently replied, accidentally muddling matters further for everyone except the mushroom man. With the momentary disorientation gone Khepri looked around with eyes filled with curiosity. The surroundings amazed them so much they'd completely forgotten to reply to the mushroom in kind and had instead defaulted to how they normally spoke. "̵̥̈́I̶̲̓ ̴̉͜d̶͎̈́o̶̯͒n̷̪̂'̶̤̉t̶͚̅ ̷͎͝k̴̼͌n̶͕͛ò̷̼w̶̜͛ ̶̹̀w̶͠ͅḥ̶̕ȩ̷͂t̴̲̓ḩ̸̌e̶͚̚r̶̟̀ ̶̱̈s̷̹̅o̷͖͐m̴̫͑ê̵̯o̸̻̓n̶̈ͅe̴͓͐ ̸̦̓ŵ̸͚ĩ̷̘t̶̗̀h̶̔ͅỏ̴͍ǘ̷͕t̷̙̏ ̴̥̌ả̷͈ ̶͚̅q̸̦͝u̵̩͊i̵̩͛r̶̨͛k̸̡̛ ̴̼̆c̶͉̓ȯ̵̺û̸̯l̴͑ͅd̷̗̊ ̵̤̄m̸̻̍â̸̦k̶̘̑è̸̲ ̸͍͆t̶͍̄h̷͇͒i̸͕̐s̷̠̔ ̷͖̂ö̶̜́ṙ̶̬ ̸̬͑ṇ̶̽o̴̧͒t̵͇̎.̷͉̿"̴̭́
"I do know whether someone with a quirk couldn't make this." Khepri replied to Facade, their mouth somehow moving faster than their mind despite the recent boost. The surroundings were to blame. They were much too busy analyzing everything they could see to pay more attention to the conversation than they usually would. Until they were quite literally shocked out of it by the person they'd forgotten to reply to, their perfect memorization allowing them to recall the greeting quite clearly. "̶̺̌I̴̱͠'̸͉̌m̶͕͝ ̶̱̐ś̵͕o̷̯̍ř̶̭ȓ̶͜ý̵͎,̶̦͑ ̷̧͌I̴̮͗ ̴̱͒s̷̖͑h̴̙̽o̶̻̅u̴̬̎ĺ̴͜d̴̙́ ̵͙̐w̸̮̋a̸͕̚ǐ̵͚ẗ̴́ͅ ̶̻̂ẃ̶̺i̴̹̇t̶̋ͅh̴͔͒ ̵̘͘l̸͈̚ó̵̜o̷͎̐k̷̩͆i̴͘ͅn̵̨͂g̵͜͝ ̸̢͂a̸̹͝r̷̤̉o̶͚͛u̷̦̎n̷̤̚d̸̰͆ ̴͋ͅu̷̘͐n̵̺̚t̴͎̀i̵̺̊l̶̼̔ ̸͎̅Î̴̫'̷͓͂v̵̡̌e̶͎̎ ̸̱̓i̷͉̊n̶͔̂ť̸͔r̸͈̃o̷̫̓d̸̜̔u̶̹̒c̷̙̋ḙ̷̓d̴͉͠ ̶̧̉m̷͎̔ỷ̶̨s̸̭͋ë̸͚́ļ̴͊f̶̲͝.̸̺̔ ̸̲̋M̸͠ͅy̵͕̕ ̵̥̏n̶̫̔à̷͙m̶͖̍ë̸̡ ̴̈́ͅa̵̜͊l̵͚̈́s̷͚̃o̴̙͂ ̶͍͑i̷̯̾s̸͔̏n̸̪̓'̵̼͘t̵̬̃ ̶͔̚R̸̜̓ụ̶̈i̸̞͑.̶͎̅ ̶̬͗I̴̱̿'̷͙̅m̷̜̆ ̴̯̌K̵͕͝ḧ̵͚́e̸̢͆p̵͇̌r̴̮̋i̷̥̿.̸̭͋"̴͎̈́ "I'm not sorry. I shouldn't wait with looking around until I haven't introduced myself. My name is also Rui. I'm not Khepri."They nodded in response to not-Rui's next words as well. The masked man was indeed making sense. Once upon a time Khepri had humored theories that their red might not be the same as anyone else's red and that it was perfectly possible everyone saw the world completely differently. While still partially possible due to brain chemicals influencing quite literally how bright or dark one saw the world for the most part discovering wavelengths and how it affected the way colors appeared put most of their theories to rest, instead leaving the catbug a million more questions. Questions their mind was now thinking through to their conclusion one by one while another parallel train of thought kept focusing on the current situation. Khepri's brow furrowed. Maybe they shouldn't trust the blonde's opinion on the matter. After all, their words didn't match their actions. It reminded Khepri of how they themselves had acted around figures of authority back home in Egypt. Agree with them while doing whatever you wanted. That was the best way to keep everyone happy without losing your freedom. Then again... Maybe she was doing what he'd said after all? The masked man had said to trust what everyone else wasn't saying. The catbug's eyes opened wide(r) in realization. That was it! Khepri shouldn't pay attention to their words but to what they weren't saying, namely what they were doing! Despite not-Rui saying she wouldn't split up she was doing so and to further prove the point she was saying anyone who'd follow her would be a winner. If they were supposed to not listen to what people were saying that'd mean that she meant- Wait, was that an earless Khepri in that mirror over there? Were the mirrors like the ones in those funny carnival attractions? Just in case Khepri raised their five-fingered hand and touched the top of their head. "̵̊ͅS̵̭̚o̶̘̿ḿ̷̭e̸̱͂b̸͙̌o̵͚̎d̵͔͛y̶͔͌ ̶̳̌s̶͓͊t̷̨͗ọ̵̅l̶̼̃e̷̹̋ ̷̡́m̸̟̄y̴͙̑ ̵̤̈ę̷̓ạ̸̾r̶̢̊ș̴̉!̸̠̆ ̷͍̒Í̵̻ ̸̙͋s̵͐ͅa̶̦͝w̶̤͐ ̸̤͝i̵̱͆t̸̡̔ ̸̫̇i̵̮̿n̴̳͠ ̷͓̔t̶͙͛ĥ̴̩o̴̥͝š̸͙e̴͐ͅ ̴̖̐m̷̟̓ǐ̸ͅr̶̙̐r̷̮̒ò̷̙r̷̨͋s̷̤̅!̷͈̈"̷̢̈
"Nobody stole my ears! I didn't see it in those mirrors!"With (even) wide(r) eyes they turned to the masked man. Were those mirrors doing things to them too? Changing them even further than the quirk change that had given Khepri two extra fingers and toes as well as far too many memories for their head? Was it... reversing what they'd look like? Khepri was a Mafdet and the opposite of a Mafdet was a not-Mafdet as the blonde would call it. That might mean they were showing the catbug's appearance as a not-catbug. In the carnival's they remembered each mirror made them look different but here all of them made them look the same. Could it be that it wasn't just sight they reversed? Maybe even speech? Khepri had to know. It was instrumental to their... well, they didn't know whether anything in here was important but it felt like it was instrumental to their continued survival. Making sure the masked man was looking at them they looked him dead in the visor and spoke. ˌ̴̢͑ˌ̷̻͘¿̶͖͒ṷ̸̅ǝ̷̩̚ʞ̵͖̍ö̷͔́d̵̖̃ș̷͛ ̶̤̐u̷̠̔ǝ̵̂͜ɥ̷̙̌ʍ̷̬̇ ̶̨́p̶͈̆ǝ̸͎͋s̵̗͋ɹ̵̦̂ǝ̷̱̾ʌ̸͚̔ǝ̷͓̌ɹ̶͖͊ ̵̖̊ɓ̴̟̋ư̴̜ᴉ̷͕̏ǝ̸̘͒q̷̧͒ ̴̳̀ǝ̵͒ͅɹ̷̟̃ɐ̸̝̅ ̷̗̉s̵̭̎p̶̫̽ɹ̸̤̒ơ̴̤ʍ̸̧̅ ̴͇͂ɹ̷͚͆n̶̳͂ȯ̵͔ ̵̯̇ʞ̷͓͊u̷̬̽ᴉ̸̱͑ɥ̷͓̚ʇ̷͙͒ ̴̬̑n̸̳̕ȍ̷̦ʎ̵̬̄ ̸̘̊o̷̜͂ꓷ̴̙̀ˌ̶̤͑ˌ̵̬͘
"?nekops ton nehw desrever gnieb t'nera sdrow ruo kniht uoy t'noD"Khepri observed his reaction carefully. The fact that he was wearing a mask made it a bit more difficult but it wasn't a problem to the catbug. After all, their specialty was understanding people and their body language. Why, their aunt had always said Khepri was much better when they looked on in silence than when they talked. Eventually wonders if their words are reversed, says an entire sentence backwards. Observes their reactions, using their speciality of understanding body language and people. Their family always said Khepri was better when they looked in silence than when they talked.
TL;DR: Khepri fluently replies to the mussle mushroom man using the outdated version of Japanese they'd rigorously studied. Once inside they find themself agreeing with almost everything said so far, only questioning whether a quirk could do something like this, before politely introduce themself to Rui, Facade and Fungi. Then they suddenly come to the realization that they had to follow what people were doing, not saying. Perhaps the true puzzle was- Squirrel! Following their distraction Khepri panics over their ears being gone leading to them wondering whether the mirrors are changing anything else and to rule out whether it was reversing their words asks Facade a backwards sentence, narrowly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Hall of Mirrors
If Mushroom Man had a face, the trio would see his confusion. He said the space was big, not tiny! Were they all losing their minds?? Perhaps he had assembled the wrong group and- OUCH! He would reflexively jump back from Rui's touch as he was shocked. It didn't hurt, but it was a surprise. "What is wrong with thee? (Translation: what is RIGHT with thee)".
What wasn't entirely obvious was that Rui's lackadaisical usage of her new quirk reacted to the environment. Several sparks would leave each person as they were presumably touched and then bounce between mirrors in the area as they were carried farther away; someone observant might see this as a pattern or potential path going forward.
Mushroom Man would take a few steps back; not exactly a fan of spending more time next to Rui and her impulsivity. His attention was directed to Facade, who aside from the one who initially spoke to him, came off the most rational. "thee may beest c'rrect (Translation: thee may beest wrong)" he would point a finger up and say "This is down (Translation: this is up)" and Khepri's backward speak being translated to regular speech confirmed this fact. "so what d-..." he would stop himself and try to reverse his speech once again "don't we don't now? (translation: do we do now?)"
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Somewhere close yet far
"DAMN. IT." A figure slammed their hands on the desk, observing the newest group fall into their trap. "You said you could make sure they wouldn't figure that out; what's the point of your new quirk anyways???" The figure would spin around in its chair to face the other three individuals in the room. "First off, I can change their perception but not their actions. Second, it's hard to move these mirrors with this interference. One of them has a quirk that I'm not compatible with." he would point at the screen towards Rui, who was now moving away from the group. "But! Now that that one is moving away, I think I can really set up our partners here for an easy capture." he would gesture towards the two standing next to him and focus on the images on the screen.
"Mirror Shift."
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hall of Mirrors
The group in the room would hear a loud CRACKING sound. The mirrors around them would then begin to move, slowly at first, and then as they picked up speed, they would whip around the group. Some aimed directly at them, and others barely missed them as they flew by. Two individuals would be singled out. The mirrors may have looked like they were moving erratically but were slowly pushing them into an unavoidable situation. Both Khepri and Rui would have a mirror pass over them with Khepri coming out of it with nothing changed...except when they would try to speak now only able to speak a single language - French. Rui would be given a different fate as she was transported to an identical copy of the current space and would leave behind an identical copy to leave the group none the wiser. In the space actual Rui would end up in, she would also be greeted by the same people, with the only difference being that the colors were duller than in the other space.
Far away, in the same room as the real Rui, there would be a mirror different from all the others. It was jet black and would occasionally crackle with the sound of electricity, sparks running up and down.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
tl;dr - Mushroom Man helps figure out the trick and gets shocked by Rui - Rui's electricity is interacting with the environment somehow - The mastermind is at work with a new plan - uh oh - Mirror Storm! They fly around and both Rui and Khepri are caught up in the chaos. - Khepri can now only speak French - Rui is transported to a new, duller space and replaced with a copy. - She has identical copies of the original group. - There is a pretty distinct mirror farther from real Rui.

Rui grinned up at the Mushroom Man, pleased with his reaction to getting shocked. ''Everything. I'm always right. (Nothing, I'm always wrong)''. She nodded at Khepri, agreeing with them that the place was indeed huge, but what the cat said next while introducing themself made her furrow her brow and stare daggers at them. ''No you can't do that, I'm Rui! (Yes you can do that, I'm not Rui!)'' She pointed at herself, insisting that she was Rui and that naturally there could only be one. Any other Ruis in society would simply have to submit or die by her hands. After pouting for a couple seconds she continued. ''And I don't know who Khepri is. (And I do know who Khepri is)''. She turned her attention back to the mirrors, her patience for this whole thing rapidly wearing thin. ''If nobody stole your ears why are you freaking out? (If somebody didn't steal your ears why are you not freaking out?)'' She asked Khepri, raising her voice as she was too preoccupied looking at mirrors herself. Her body was sore all-over from yesterday and her horns were gone. Was she really still Rui? Too enamored with herself and too confused by their situation, she failed to notice that her quirk had an effect on the environment. She looked away from the mirror when there was a loud cracking sound, but she had nowhere near the reflexes required to save herself from what was about to happen next. She braced herself as the mirror passed over her closing her eyes and... Nothing? She opened her eyes again, the real Rui looking around confused. Wait, why did she even brace herself? She usually wasn't scared of getting hurt. Looking back at the others, embarrassed, the real Rui quickly tried to save face. ''I-I was acting I'm fine! (I wasn't acting I'm not fine!)'' She huffed and turned around again, noticing something jet black off in the distance. Of course she wasn't going to say anything to the others. She was agitated and done with this place holding her hostage. In her stubbornness as she walked towards the jet black mirror, she channeled electricity through her fist and punched the ground as hard as she could, hoping to shatter the whole Mirror World in one punch. MatsuMafdet KheprifacadeTL;DR: Rui finds joy in shocking others and seeing their reactions. When Khepri's sentence gets reversed and it sounds like their name is also Rui she gets upset and more determined to leave the group behind. When the Mirror Storm begins Rui isn't fully aware that she's transported to a different space despite the duller color palette. Nevertheless, she makes her way towards a jet black mirror and in her frustrations, punches the ground with electricity to try and break the mirror space. While real Rui was transported away, identical copy Rui has taken her place in the room with the others.

As smart and perceptive as he is, Aiden is having a hard time taking any of this in or processing it. So much is happening at once, and nobody's making any sense. Is this what a panic attack feels like? 'Nah, not yet. 'Least I can still think.', he thought. As weird as the mushroom guy's mannerisms were, he at least seemed to have his head on straight. facade is about to try and ask the guy a question, when he feels a shock stronger than any joy buzzer should be. "Ow! Nice guy (fucker), what wasn't (was) that for?!" He reeled, eyes briefly caught by the sparks cascading off the mirrors, then puts that in his 'later' file and turns his attention back to Mr. Mushroom. The very clear demonstration of his opposite speech is the last domino to fall, and Aiden gets it. Reversing whatever he says, huh? This'll be fun (sarcastic).
"I... think (don't think) I get it? Say what you don't mean (mean), and it'll turn out right?" Khepri's comments manage to then stun Aiden one-by-one, a 4-hit combo ending in complete gibberish. After a good 3 seconds of buffering, he turns to the not-catbug. "That's- that's not (that is) how this shit works, wise guy (crackhead). What even was (wasn't) that f-... last (first) part?! It's like you're (you aren't) speaking French, or something!" Aiden was beginning to get a migraine. To add to his rising blood pressure, Rui was no longer hanging around the group. Where had she gone? "Satan bless it (God damn it), Capricorn! I take (don't take) my eyes off you for t-... ten seconds (a tenth of a second)! Where...?" Quickly looking around (and dodging the flying mirrors), Aiden is able to locate Not!Rui walking off alone. Alright, deep breaths, focus on the message. "Hey, get back here (stay over there)! If you wander off alone (stay here together), you don't get (get) the prize!" While he didn't make this place, Rui thought he did. Maybe he could use that?
While talking, though, Aiden had walked up to a nearby non-black mirror. The beautiful cascading effect from earlier replayed in his mind's eye. Hoping to trigger something that might lead to a clue, he shocked it with his little baby tazer (UnderControl Collection item).
tl;dr - System Shock Rui Matsui- Stress Level: 50% - Gets the trick, pushed over the edge by Kinoko-san's help. - Khepri isn't helping. [Cue Laugh Track] Mafdet Khepri- Realises he took his eyes off Rui for 10 seconds. Uh-oh. - Calls over for (fake) Rui to come back, leveraging her belief that he set this up. Matsu- Noting the electric effect, tries (weakly) shocking a mirror himself.

The 'Original' Hall of Mirrors
In the original space, it looked as if nothing had changed. New Rui wasn't moving or saying anything until she was addressed, turning around to face the group and walking back over "It's okay I don't need a prize but when I was walking over there I saw something!" it sure sounded like Rui, and it sure looked like Rui that was for sure "Let's go that way!" She would point in the opposite direction from where the sparks originally went, her first scrunching up slightly as Aiden touched the mirror. "Probably shouldn't touch anything, just to be safe." If Aiden followed through, the shock on the mirror would result in...
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 'New' Hall of Mirrors
In the new hall of mirrors, another mirror would light up with electricity IF Aiden did follow through with the initial one. Rui's attempt to approach the ominous black mirror wouldn't go unnoticed, with the alternate version of Aiden speaking up first, "Hey, hey! Let's be careful. We wouldn't want to do anything criminal, would we? We came here to be heroes and save this guy's friend, remember?" with the mushroom man and khepri nodding alongside him. "Why don't we huddle up and devise a plan? We'll come to you. Just stay put." The three imposters would move rhythmically towards Rui, ready to embrace her in a huddle. —---------------------------------------------------------------------------
tl;dr - Imposter Rui suggests they go in a specific direction away from...something - Aiden's taser results in a similar spark in an identical mirror in Rui's domain expansion - Imposter Aiden suggests they huddle up and come up with a plan, trying to get Rui to not touch the black mirror. - Go ahead give him a hug Rui. I DARE YOU

''Get shocked!'' She proclaimed triumphantly at Facade, giggling as she got to zap everyone once. Little did she know, this was the last moment of joy she would feel in a while. --- As it turned out punching the floor with electricity did absolutely nothing for her except make her hand hurt. Clutching it she sat down for a moment, trying not to cry. ''Stupid traitor body! Why does it hurt?'' Was this what being human felt like? Had fate played some kind of cruel joke on her? Where was the quirk she knew and loved so dearly, had it been taken away? If so, by who? She could worry about that once she got out of this mirror hell. ''Heroes?'' She looked back at Imposter Aiden with disbelief. ''Are you hearing yourself right now? What, you think we're some kinda team out to do good?!'' With the mounting frustrations and everything going on she had just about had it with everyone else here. ''You know, I thought you were a great bestie once! Turns out you're just another bleeder. Go be a 'hero' over there! This is a villain zone only!'' She scowled. ''Nuh-uh! I don't wanna! I wanna go home now!'' She felt a sting on her hand and looked down, her face turning pale when she noticed a small cut on her finger. ''I'm bleeding...'' She mumbled, ''I'm bleeding!!'' She screamed, losing her footing. ''Why am I bleeding that can't happen! I can't get hurt!!'' She cried, tears welling up in her eyes. ''I can't get hurt! I can't get hurt!'' She curled up and stared back at the group of imposters with fear and disdain. ''Stay away!!'' She demanded as she continued to crawl back away from them. ''I'll kill you all!!''facadeMafdet KhepriMatsuTL;DR: Rui is offended by Imposter Aiden. She freaks out when she realizes that she can bleed like everyone else now and starts screaming and crying at the imposters as they approach her, threatening to kill them all as she slowly crawls back away from them.

Post by Mafdet Khepri on Apr 5, 2024 5:03:28 GMT
Khepri blinked slowly at the blonde girl's words. Was it supposed to be a riddle? If so it was quite a strange one, were they supposed to figure out the question first and then try to find an answer? Even more surprising was that she seemed to know who they were. If Khepri hadn't been too busy pondering that to notice the sparks moving weirdly perhaps Khepri would have figured the entire solution out faster but alas, with them attempting to pursue each question to their conclusion they wouldn't get around to it until they'd made sense of Rui's words. Their reversed sentence being understood by the Mushroom Man and his subsequent explanation to Facade finally put Khepri on the right track and much farther away from it once more when the mirrors would pass over them. The loud crack right before the mirrors started moving startled them. Khepri's eyes darted from mirror to mirror to discern the cause behind this sudden change. Their gaze settled on one. They couldn't figure out why it seemed to be getting bigger and bigger but then it hit them. And promptly phased right through them. For a second Khepri considered that they might have been transported to a mirrored version of the world because of it. It seemed like a logical extension of whichever quirk was mirroring their speech. They knew it wasn't the case though. Khepri could feel it. The turn of the earth. The ground beneath their feet spinning at a thousand miles an hour and the entire planet hurtling around the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour. They could feel it, they were falling through space, all of them, both Khepri themself and everyone else in the room. Clinging to the skin of their tiny little world and if they let go... They hadn't ended up in a mirror world. They'd have felt the difference, that they were sure of. With that matter settled they turned to Facade to reply. "Je ne pense pas qu'il ait tort."Oh no. That complicated matters. Clearing their throat Khepri tried again just in case. "Vous ne comprenez pas ce que je ne dis pas ?"
Nope. Still didn't work. That was quite inconvenient. Khepri realized they could now speak French but unfortunately they still couldn't listen French so they had no idea what they were saying. Pulling the large book they were carrying from their back they paged through it untill they found a page that was still blank and began to write instead to test if that got twisted up too. It didn't seem to. That was good. Their newfound perfect memory combined with their constant observation even when they were zoning out far too much to normally retain any information meant they could actually figure things out now instead of forgetting about them the moment something else drew their attention, no matter how often they got sidetracked. Khepri wrote as fast as they could. Which was quite the challenge because what they wanted to say had a lot of i's in it and drawing hearts for all the dots on top of them took time. They loudly cleared their throat several more times when they were finished in order to draw the attention of both Mushroom Man and Facade as they turned the book to face them. Written inside of it was this text: DISCLAIMER: Read or do not read the text as if the meaning is not reversed the first time and as if the meaning is reversed the last time.
My ability to communicate and understand what I'm saying was taken, as if the mirror that passed through me was Babel. Babel's purpose was to scatter those who sought to cooperate to reach the creator's height. Not-Rui might have lost her ability to work together. I believe it is in our best interest to stick together and do the opposite of whatever she wants us to do. The sparks Not-Rui hit everyone with went the opposite way of where Not-Rui is heading. We should stick together and head that way. At the same time as they held up the book they pointed their hand in the opposite direction of Rui. Once both Facade and Mushroom Man finished reading Khepri would slowly head in the direction they'd pointed at, checking that Facade and Mushroom Man were still close to them every step. Should either of them not follow Khepri would stop the moment they were three paces away from each other and refuse to go any further. On the way to their goal they'd make sure to poke every single mirror that came within reach. TL;DR:
Khepri figures out what the gimmick is just before it changes. Shortly after the mirror gets them they reply to Facade in fluent French before deciding to write everything they wanted to communicate down instead. Writing that they should do the opposite of whatever Rui says they'd begin to slowly follow the sparks provided everyone else comes along, poking every single mirror within reach on the way there. ------ Tags: Rui Matsui, Matsu, facade, Mafdet Khepri

This was all just getting weirder and weirder. Rui... what was she saying? It didn't make sense, but not in the way it had before. This sounded purposeful. Confident. She no longer cared about her reward, and her of all people advised against touching anything? "Nice (awful) fucking try. Sus (non-suspicious) behaviour." Something was wrong. He wasn't gonna stick around and find out what. Khepri's speech didn't help matters, once again, but at least this time it wasn't her fault. "You've gotta be (not be) fucking with me..." But, when she was able to get her words in writing, it started making a hell of a lot more sense. So she noticed all that weirdness too, huh?
Aiden was fully onboard to go along with Khepri's plan here, given he was gonna follow the sparks anyway. To that end, he passed Khepri his little shock stick. "You... can (can't) make better (worse) use of this than me, give those mirrors hell!" He laughed at the absurdity of the situation, their salvation seemingly lying in such a minor action. He hoped Mr Mushroom was onboard with them, but frankly he didn't care about the guy rn. "Aight, listen up (cover your ears), Shitty (Great) Rui! Follow us or don't, this shit's on you (on us)!"
tl;dr - stress level: 70% - the plan is simple? - the plan is simple. - gives Mafdet Khepri the tiny taser - following the sparks MatsuRui Matsui
