Ryusei time to get some grub meet new people

He would move through the hallways of the UAU in search of the cafeteria, it was tough as it was his first time in this in the UAU. He was still amazed that he passed the test, it almost cost him his life, but he somehow showed enough that he passed. Furthermore, he was in awe at how much bigger and better the cafeteria was compared to one in public schools he had been in. Not only that, but he would look about as this place made his high school look like a soup kitchen. He would yarn, wondering once class over if he would have time to nap before work.  He would get in line and then order his food and pay for it before he looked about taking all that were in the cafeteria as he waited for his food to be completed.  He would then take his tray of food and scan for an empty seat that he could sit down and consume his food as it was making his mouth water as it smelt so good. 

He would make his way to a table and take a seat at a table that had no one else there and no one around. Furthermore, he would then begin to eat and listen to the talking that was going on, hoping to hear gossip that he could use to figure out how other classes were doing, as he was doing not too bad. It was no different from high school at the moment besides exercises in being a hero, which in the end was his goal is to become a vigilante that can do hero work, and it not be illegal. He would hear soon he would have to make a hero uniform, but to him that was weird due to the many years of being in street clothing.  He would shrug to his mental thoughts and looked about as he had nowhere to really be as the urge to do vigilante stuff would be stronger and risk him losing the right to go to school here. It would also interfere or worst yet prevent him from getting his goal of being an official hero like the heroes he worshiped and watched as a boy.

He would just finish his food and take out some work books and study, as he did not want to be left behind in the class. He would read and study, not really paying attention, so he would not notice if someone happened to approach him unless they spoke to him. Furthermore, he would read and stretch his head a little before looking at another book for cross-reference on something and then kinda understood it and sighed as he wanted to make sure his marks were in a good range. He would look and wondered when it came time to train his quirk he wondered if the method they use would work on him as his quirk was not like most other aspiring heroes that are attending the UAU. he would put his faith into the teachers as most are or where hero's themselves and knows what to do to get the most out of the students Quirks.

[Mafdet Khepri]

Khepri was mastering the art of sitting so still they appeared invisible. There was no evidence it would work but so far it seemed promising. They'd been sitting at the same table as Ryusei for several minutes now and still hadn't been noticed. It was rare that Khepri found a skill they were good at from the first try but perhaps they'd finally struck gold. All that remained to be seen was how effective it was. Did it only stop them from being seen if they remained still or did it extend to other senses as well?

"If I talk do you think I exist?" Khepri said out of nowhere, attentively waiting to see whether Ryusei would answer. They were curious whether they'd get a response. If he stayed silent Khepri truly would have mastered the technique in one go, but even if he spoke up the catbug would still be well on the way to discovering a skill they never knew they had; Or wanted for that matter.

Ryusei  Has the crap scared out of him

He did not notice the female student that had been sitting there all this time, unaware she was using a skill to go unnoticed by him. And it was differently working as he had no clue at all as he was not expecting it. He would then jump out of his seat and clutch his heart as she caught him off guard by that and had to breathe a little to get a hold of himself again. How long have you been there, he would ask the female, unaware if a quirk or skill was in use at this school.

Furthermore, he would put his books down as this girl had his attention now, but she did not seem to mean him any harm, because his quirk would have handled it if she did. He would breathe a little more trying to calm himself as scare had his heart beating so badly that if this was a cartoon or anime the female would see his heart beating through his chest.

[Yanai Yoko]

She couldn't believe it.

She had just come back from training and was looking forward to enjoying her lunch on all her lonesome in her usual spot. The only problem was... Someone else was already sitting in her usual spot. The audacity of these two. She didn't know if they were first years like her and she honestly didn't care either. They should know that loners like her needed all the alone time they could get in a big institution like this one. She hadn't expected to socialize with anyone over lunch today, but she also wasn't about to give up her spot. It was her spot after all.

''What's up outcasts?'' She put her tray down and took a seat across from the guy, intending to leave the cat bug alone completely. She couldn't explain it, but Khepri was giving off some weirdo vibes, like they were about to say or do something truly unhinged. ''Another shitty day of hero school, am I right?'' She made sure to put her umbrella down next to her so that it was close by in case she might need it. ''Who are you two? Haven't seen you around before.'' That wasn't necessarily true, she just wasn't making much of an effort to commit the faces of her peers to memory. They could be classmates for all she knew and she still wouldn't recognize them. ''I'm Yoko. First year.'' She picked up her chopsticks and glanced at Ryusei's homework once before she started eating. ''If any of my food gets on your books, that's on you.'' Her resting grumpy face made her look more annoyed than anything. Then again, grumpy was her default mood. She knew it too and she wholeheartedly embraced it. Being optimistic and happy all the time was too much work anyway, she could leave that to the other hero students who seemed to have endless amounts of energy to spend every day.

Ryusei   recovers  but a new encounter enters the fray 

Ryusei while he waits for the other girl to reply to him had noticed a girl walk towards the table that he was eating and studying at and look at her and then heard her words and sighed a little as this was not what he was expecting at all. He would look at her as she spoke to him and gave her a flat, impartial response of “not that much” to that question as he saw her put her tray down on the table.  He would shrug, “it's just that another day of school” he would respond to her as he observes their interaction and the fact that she kept her umbrella close to her for protection.  Ryusei nonchalantly heard her questions to them as he had no idea who the girl was as she just scared the crap out of him a few moments ago.  He would look at the new girl joined the table, “I am a first year as well my name is Ryusei and I have no idea who this girl is other than she just popped up out of nowhere to scare the crap out of me”  he would say to her as he responded to her questions.

He heard her state her name and shrugged as chances of him remembering what her name was very slim and noticed her look at his books and then noticed her pick up the chopsticks to eat her food.  He heard her warning and sighed, “I guess it would be” he would say to her before he would put them away as he did not have money to replace them if this girl was a messy eater.  He had no idea if she had resting grumpy face or if she was having a bad day, but he did not care, as it had nothing to do with him.

[Mafdet Khepri]

Khepri tilted their head in surprise at their fellow student's question. It was an interesting one. A question with many implications. How long had they been here? What was here? Did it encompass only this table? Did it count the dining hall as well? Perhaps it even counted their stay on the entire planet so far.

"Either eighteen years or several minutes," they replied before scooping up part of the contents of a cooling rice bowl with a very fancy engraved spoon. Maybe it was just the temperature but the taste felt muted. When they were addressed by a blonde girl out of nowhere they froze for a moment, fingers clenched around the spoon so tightly their knuckles went white. They replied on autopilot, hearing the reply out of their own mouth before they even processed it.

"The direction opposite the nearest source of gravity," Khepri answered monotonously. The question had clearly startled them more than expected. Their heart thudded rapidly, their hair stood on end and it took them several seconds to pry their grip loose of the spoon. "Thank you, I've been training. I'm Khepri. Mafdet Khepri," they introduced themselves woodenly with a far off expression, their mind too focused on other thoughts to pay attention to their eyes. Like how firetrucks were actually watertrucks. Before the silence could stretch on for too long they filled it once more.

"Does the menu seem different recently or is it just me?"

So Ryusei also didn't know who Khepri was. ''I see.'' She looked over at Khepri, staring her down for an uncomfortable couple of seconds before concluding as she took the first bite of her noodles. ''A cryptid, perhaps.'' Khepri's answer didn't exactly make them easier to understand either. The direction opposite of gravity? Was their whole quirk to speak in riddles, or were they just acting? ''So, Ryusei... And Khepri. If I don't remember your names it's nothing personal. I'm not a names person.'' She wasn't going to start today either. One day she would find a way to get out of this school and this whole hero business.

While Yoko had warned Ryusei about her food getting on his books, she was actually eating in a pretty neat and slow manner, unlikely to make a mess at all. ''Different?'' She looked over at Khepri and finished chewing before she spoke. ''Different how?'' She hadn't noticed anything different or off herself, should she have? Well, not like she cared much about school in the first place so whether she did or didn't, didn't matter. ''Shit.'' She muttered as she reached for her umbrella and opened it over her. Seconds later a tiny storm cloud formed over her head and began raining down on her. The rain fell softly against her umbrella as the tiny, localized storm raged over her head. A drawback of living with her quirk. Desperate to not make the sudden cloud over her head the point of discussion, she pivoted to one of those questions hero students always asked each other.

''Why did you two choose heroism? Can't be because you're wanting to live a safe life free of trouble.'' She continued eating as she gave them time to respond.

Ryusei continues the encounter 

He would listen to the talk as he ate more of his food and figured he got enough studies down for the moment, but he felt like one girl was kinda weird and the other he was unsure about her. Ryusei look to them as they spoke and even found them amusing in their own way.  He heard her and nodded “I noticed that's for sure and nice to meet you as well” he would say to her. He would look at the other female “I see don't worry I am bad with names as well” he would assure her. Furthermore, he would look at his food and then the girls, “I am not sure as to me, it seems like normal average food to me. It might be food not agreeable with you "he would respond and tilt his head at them as one seems having issue with their food and other somehow has it raining on the selves making him happy he picked up his books.

He heard the question he would look at them “it's cause as a kid I always wanted to be a hero that helps people and fights criminals that I have seen on news and on internet and leave people mysteriously wanting to know who saved them” he would say in response to her question and looks to them “how about you two” he would ask them. He would look at yoko and little storm “does that happen a lot” he would ask her and look at the strange girl she was different and happy to at least got to know fellow students that is going through tough courses as well.

Khepri nodded in understanding. They weren't a names person either. They'd even misunderstood once and used the opposite of someone's name to address them. Bringing the empty spoon to their mouth their teeth hit metal before they realized the rice had fallen off. Huh. It didn't usually do that either. The spoonsmith had said she couldn't make magic spoons so it couldn't have been that, there truly was something different about the food today.

Returning their spoon to the bowl they realized they weren't quite as hungry as they thought and refrained from trying again as they refocused on the conversation.

"Agreeable?" Khepri asked with a tilt of their head. Come to think of it they hadn't had arguments with any of the food here so they had no idea how agreeable it normally was. It was possible that was the reason why the rice was gone. Maybe the cat icon on the back of the spoon hadn't been close enough to keep the rice there and it left, falling back into the bowl and laying still. Khepri pushed her meal and cutlery alike to the side, wondering why it was drizzling inside. Didn't clouds usually form higher and outdoors? Had this piece of cloud crashed to the ground, stood up and walked elsewhere? Was that how it ended up here?

"Because I'm no longer in Egypt," they explained in a way that explained nothing while nodding along with themself. Had they stayed in Egypt they'd likely still be a vigilante around the clock instead of a hero student at day and a vigilante whenever they remembered where they put their secret costume.

“Do you think seven plus eight could hit twenty? Like, surely they could do better than fifteen if they tried hard enough. Right?”

''Cool.'' She simply replied to Ryusei. That meant there was no pressure to this social interaction, just some random talking between classes before they had to go back to the grind. That suited her perfectly, names were a pain in the neck anyway. ''Yeah, agreeable.'' She agreed with him, trying to clarify further for Khepri. ''Like, if your stomach is sensitive or whatever. Is the food making you feel sick?''

From the way he explained it Ryusei sounded like a total goody-two-shoes. Got inspired by other heroes as a kid and wanted to do it to save people? That checked out. Someone like him probably wouldn't be a rulebreaker. Khepri on the other hand... Their answer told her nothing. ''Egypt? Is that where you're from?'' She finished her bowl of noodles and took a sip of her water. ''My answer is short and sweet.'' She said, looking over at Ryusei. ''I don't want to become a hero. My shitty family is forcing me to do this.'' Something about her needing to set a good example and make the family name proud or whatever. Yoko clearly wasn't happy with it, but trying to make the most of her situation. When he asked her about the cloud she gave him a grumpy glare. ''Only when I'm having a bad day.'' She scowled. Which unfortunately for her, was every day. As she answered, the intensity of the rain grew a little stronger, but still remained completely isolated to just raining on Yoko. Resisting the urge to yell at her cloud, she was more than happy to shift the topic to whatever Khepri was trying to say. Something about math? ''Oi, Mafdet, what the hell are you talking about?'' She looked over at Ryusei. ''Is math your thing? Do you know what she means?''

Ryusei continues the encounter with the girls 

Ryusei just listened to them as he heard their responses to each other and finished his food as they spoke as he looked back and forth as their words go back and forth between them. He then heard her mention she was no longer in Egypt and could not help but be a little amused by that response. He then looked to Yoko as he heard her answer was going to be short and sweet. He heard her answer and sighed "I see you got that type of family life I am sorry this being forced on you if it was your choice what would you want to do" he would ask her as he was not part of that lifestyle as his parents just want him to do what makes him happy.  He seen the grump glare targeted at him and then heard her response and nodded "I see well I hope your day gets better" he would say to her. He looks to other girl Khepri and tilted his head as he heard her math question as he tried figure out what she was going on about and looked to the other one to see if she figured it out. 

He heard Yoko question Khepi and looked to them before Yoko asked him if math was his thing and thought "usually I am decent at it but right now I am kind of lost where this question came from" he would respond and looked to khepi  " what is the full contents of the question maybe we can help you figure it out" he would ask the strange girl  and looked to Yoko  and wondered if rain going flood the cafeteria as it not stopping at all.

"No, I've never heard the food say anything that insulting," Khepri replied. Especially not on the inside. Perhaps there was a difference in experience. Khepri wasn't entirely sure what other people's physiology was like but their own mutation made it so that they didn't have ears on the inside. No matter what the food said once eaten their stomach wouldn't be able to be hurt by it. Khepri filed the thought of that away for later. There were a whole lot of implications to Ryusei's and Yoko's words that they didn't have the time to think about right now.

They answered Yoko's question on whether they're from Egypt with a nod and waited for both her and Ryusei to finish speaking entirely before they continued.

"That's how I ended up here too." 

They were perfectly fine doing things without a license back home before their family had told them to go study at UAU to go get one, warning them of the dangers of a villain duo called Potential Ramifications and Serious Consequences who were apparently really dangerous to people without a license. Khepri didn't quite get why that was the case but there were a lot of strange quirks out there that they hadn't figured out yet so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. 

Following along with the conversation and nodding where appropriate Khepri's mind wandered once more. They really needed to look into mythology sometime. People kept asking them which hell they were talking about but they don't know nearly enough about them to know what about the things they said reminded people of a hell nor which one. Khepri was briefly shaken out of their introspection by Ryusei's question before falling deep into thought once more while maintaining eye contact with him, not entirely sure how to answer it. It had to be a riddle. Usually the catbug loved those but the feeling was missing right now, likely out looking for their apetite. Casting a quick glance at the food Khepri realized neither had returned yet. After several seconds of thinking they finally opened their mouth.

"I don't know about the contents," the catbug answered with a tilt of their head. "Do we need to know about those to figure out whether they could stop getting the same result every time?"
