They were an odd assortment, that was for certain, but the black sheep so often possessed remarkable resilience. Surviving a crazy world rarely leaves one sane. And survivors picked up more than a few tricks along the way. Where others saw shortsighted maniacs and murderers alone, Elias saw potential. The potential to create waves that lasted lifetimes. It required only precise application and timing. The right tools, in the right places, at the right time.
"Hm, I find myself doubting his search for friends," Elias emphasized, answering Rem.
He paused, the chirp of his Scales' voices in his ear. A car had pulled up outside and departed with the woman who had left a few moments prior. No threats currently inbound, but it might be beneficial for them to wrap this up sooner rather than later. There was no telling what one might do with information, including their current whereabouts.
"But that shouldn't suggest we avoid a conversation with the man. One in a controlled environment, under favorable conditions. Surely, he has access to information and resources we could collectively use. Then we do with him as we see fit."
It was the vaguest of plans, but there just wasn't enough yet to go on. The man's location was entirely unknown, even to Ouroboros. There was little throughout history that united people, like the emergence of a common enemy. What might they accomplish working together? The crux of the thing was Elias's need for the Elementalist's mind. If he couldn't take the man, his research would do, but nothing would beat having his brain to pick at.
"He cannot possibly have accomplished all he has alone. Consider: he might only be yet another cog turning in an even greater machine. Would the ultimate victory not include squeezing the man for all he's worth, potentially uncovering a grander design denied to hero society for us to use, and then dictating his fate?"
There was every chance the Elementalist stood atop his local food chain, but the thought of an even greater threat might satiate some appetites and stall an immediate kill order. And then there was, of course, the very real possibility that Elias was correct and he was just a piece on someone else's board. Either way, information was key–and there was no better source than the man himself.
