[attr="class","likedotitle2"]PATCH NOTES - 08/01/2024
[attr="class","likedoinfo"]Happy August! We have a few new updates we wanted to list out for your viewing convenience. Please be sure to direct all questions regarding this update to us in the #q-a channel! When available, we will be there to answer any questions, comments, or concerns related to the changes!
The Missions thread received an update! After an internal discussion prompted by some member feedback, we've ultimately decided that the way nonthreatening vs. threatening threads are classified for mission is a little outdated. So, we're adjusting to provide more flexibility when participating in threads of either type!
Now you might ask, ultimately, what changed? Since the site reboot, we've tried to keep consistent with the initial idea that nonthreatening should include things such as simulated exercises, spars, etc., and that threatening missions should always involve real danger. This, in itself, isn't necessarily a problem. Still, when you look at the primary faction and our philosophy when it comes to keeping villains away from UAU and the restrictions set on what students can/can't do, we realized that our current version doesn't exactly suit the direction of the site as a whole.
So we came up with what hopefully would be the ideal solution to differentiate the two: Risk!
Going forward, the difference between what makes up a non-threatening and threatening thread comes down to risk. In general, anything that comes with a risk to a character (physically, mentally, etc.) will be able to count as a threatening mission, while more mundane/slice-of-life threads fall under the nonthreatening type.
We're bring back Provisional Licensing Exams and IC Year Advancements! Only this time instead of them being moderated events that have post timers and exist only for a limited amount of time we're making them into prompts and having them exist year round! These are entirely optional as the previous method of giving your characters a provisional license or moving them up from year to year is still absolutely a valid path. Still, we wanted to add something that people could participate in if they find the need/desire to do so!
This update also comes with a few more guidelines on how both students, pro heroes, and teachers alike can be more involved in the UAU experience: [You can read the full page detailing everything about PLE by clicking this link!]
Both the rule page and event page have received minor updates. For the rule page, we've added the additional starts you can earn with tokens. These aren't anything new as the 30k and 75k start options have existed for a while but we wanted to highlight them for anyone who might have missed them as an option!
For the Event Page we've added links under the Main Event and Member Event tags for any ongoing events! We will update these accordingly when we receive more member event submissions or when a new staff event launches! So keep an eye out.
That's all the updates that we have for now, but keep your eyes open for some of these upcoming updates:

- Student-Teacher/Pro Hero Mentorships - While you can read all about it [here] we'd like to highlight that there are many IC and OOC benefits to having a mentorship with another PC. We highly recommend if you haven't to check the alliances and faculty/pro hero character pages if you're interested!
- Provisional Licensing Exam - While students can absolutely take on the Provisional Licensing Exam with other students as teachers or Pro Heroes you're more than welcome to narrate/proctor an exam at any time as long as it follows the rules for these type of prompts.
- UAU Disciplines - Not an official system by any means, but we've expanded on six total disciplines that UAU students are more than welcome to have! Each set of prompts is set up in a way that it highlights the strengths/goals each discipline but don't worry if you don't want to engage with it, these disciplines are entirely optional and not a requirement to participate!
[attr="class","likedosub"]Rule Page + Event Page updates!
Both the rule page and event page have received minor updates. For the rule page, we've added the additional starts you can earn with tokens. [attr="class","likedosub"]What's Next?
That's all the updates that we have for now, but keep your eyes open for some of these upcoming updates:
- Discord Ticket System - To streamline the character approval process we're looking at integrating a discord ticket system for it.
- Group Thread Bonus - We'll be adding a group thread bonus in the future! This will come with more EXP per person, but we'll share more once we've worked out the details!
- Mini Events - Think of it as something in between a member ran event and a narrative thread! We'll share more details on this one very soon!
- Misc updates to outdated rules - We'll be doing spot checks to update/clarify outdated information on the board!
- Next Staff Run Event - Nothing says a fun time like a staff event! Originally we weren’t planning on doing anything for this season except for the Sports Festival prompts, but like many things, plans change! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for any previews of what the theme of the event could be, and definitely read the prelude posts to make sure you’re caught up! Ultimately the preview of what you might run into next time could be hidden in plain sight!
