A

nother day on the track. Another day Chronokinesis showed its fickle inclinations. Farrin sprinted at best speed around the track, but that wasn't saying much outside of his Temporal State. As powerful as his quirk was, it sapped his movement through the temporal flux, slowing him down rather than speeding him up, whenever he denied himself its full might. In short. While Farrin could whoop most of his classmates' arses in a proper scrap, and dust them while using Chronokinesis to its fullest extent, he was slow as your average Joe without it.

Sweat poured down from the lion's mane, streaking down his brow and his nape, and drenching his UAU gym uniform. It was all part of the process. The harder he trained, the faster he would move even while Chronokinesis drained him. Overdrawn lunges threw his legs forward, opting for distance with his every step over sheer speed. It didn't make up for his temporal drawback, but it helped. 



Eventually, though, he would wind down, peeling off from the track and jogging over to the bleachers. They weren't unlike those from Hero Prep, where he first met Sada. Rather than crash into the seating through, he leaned against the lowermost wall. It was time for a short break. He snatched up a bottle of water he had left at the foot of the staircase up toward the rest of the bleacher's seats and guzzled the freezing liquids down. A short break wouldn't hurt, but then he would have to jump, or more accurately sprint, right back into it.

[Leo Springs]

Leo made his way once again through the expansive campus of UAU moving through the students who were making their way to their classes and those clumped along the paved path in small groups of friends. The heads of the students he passed turned and followed him on his journey some whispering how strange the boxer looked, he wore the bottom half of the UAU gym uniform with his beat up red converse carrying him steadily forward while the upper half of the speedster was wearing a black t-shirt covered by his signature bomber jacket. Luckily the whispers of the other students fell on deaf ears as Leo swiftly made his way towards the physical education grounds he was far too excited to listen. His destination was the tracks, it was road work day. Between moving into his dorm and starting classes the majority of Leo’s time had been taken up by school recently and this was the first time he could commit the day to going back to his own training.     It didn’t take Leo very long (As far as he could tell) to reach the physical education grounds and from there it was no time at all to the tracks. The speedster dropped his bag at the side of the outside lane before stepping onto the track taking his bomber jacket off and securely tying it around his waist, gold and blue eyes locked onto the track in front of him intently as he leaned down and took a sprinter’s start. A smile spread across Leo’s face as excitement filled his eyes before launching forward out of his start beginning to tear around the track at about half speed the tiniest hint of buzzing tickling the back of his skull not noticing the time turning student at the nearby bleachers. reezing cold water could not be beat after a proper workout. Something wearing oneself down seemed to proportionally improve the taste of the water. Yeah, sure, it was a mostly tasteless liquid, but tell that to someone who ran a few dozen miles in minutes or lifted a truck's worth of weight over their head a hundred times and see what they had to say about it. Guarantee they opt for some freezing water over anything else. Science be damned, it tasted better. 

The frigid liquid went down his gullet and permeated his tense form. Rain to stamina's seed. Rejuvenating. Replenishing. The battery was charged and Farrin was about ready to take off again. That was, until the nail was hammered into his head. Searing heat splurged out in every direction behind his brain. That's how it felt. He had only felt this sensation once before, and the moment his gaze rose from the ground below his feet to the track he knew its source. 

The words whispered in his ears spoke with as much vigor as venom. Buddy. Break. Friend. Foe. Recover. Ruin. All of it mixed and congealed in a massive mess then splattered against the wall of the time-turner's eardrum. Even his most prized confidant, his gut instincts, betrayed him. Half of him felt like wrapping his arms around his classmate, like a friend he hadn't seen in years, and the other half felt like punching him square in the nose. But why? 

He knew why. He saw when they made contact in the dorms. Someone that looked just like the boy, but white whiter hair, running so fast that everything around them shattered. Was it a dream? Was it the future? Had it somehow been the past? He had nothing. Only a profound lack of understanding, and the need to know to more. 

So Farrin dropped his water bottle flat on the floor, kicked up Chronokinesis - then ran onto the track.

Sweat began to trickle down his brow as Leo made his way around the track, he had chosen a good pace to start with not quite his full speed but just fast enough to warm up before moving on to the real work. The speedster had a happy look on his face and who could blame him he was running after all, he couldn’t quite place it but everytime he ran it just felt right like it was something that he wanted to do, and on some base instinctual level it was something that he was meant to do. Eyes locked firmly on the track ahead Leo rounded the bend closest to the bleachers, the buzzing in the back of his skull increasing to a cacophony of vibrations as if his brain was trying to vibrate itself apart within its bone enclosure. He was nearby.     The boxer didn’t have to look to know who it was, there wasn’t anyone else it could be, the pain that the buzzing had turned into made that very clear. It was the same feeling he had back at the dorms, only this time way more intense. There was the feeling of knowing his time turning classmate but he hadn’t met him before their meeting at the dorms, had he? The feeling of nostalgia was slowly clashing with a deep almost primal anger when he thought of his classmate, it was familiar like he had known it as long as he could remember but also like that of anger from a dream, hard to place. Leo gave his head a strong shake refocusing his mismatched eyes on the track ahead of him picking his pace up slightly, he wouldn’t look back, he never would the old man's words echoed in his pain filled head and left his mouth “Always forward and never back”  TAGS Farrin NOTES  Abilities Being Used: Little more than half speed

t was the oddest sensation. To move slower than he knew himself capable of even while under the effects of his Temporal State. Farrin had no clue why it was happening, but as he approached Leo his speed drastically fell and his blood boiled. It didn't stem only from his mind now, but something deeper. Antithetical. Unnatural. Like the threads of time itself had been thrown into choler. 

"Oi! Lad! Have we e'er met before university?" Farrin called out, breaking through the heavy soup of disturbed time or whatever the hell was weighing him down, and closing in on Leo. 

Small talk had no place between them. Farrin had questions. He hoped Leo had answers. Defy time, break it all you want, it had plans for the two of them and that plan was tying their threads together in quite the knot. They were bound to one another by nature beyond comprehension. It was up to them to figure it out. 

Half of his mind still beckoned for violence. The need to protect people from the potential danger Leo represented. The problem was, that danger only existed in mystifying dreams and whispers. It didn't help that they were accompanied by just as many enigmas that pushed him to befriend the boy. Which was it going to be? He hadn't decided yet. How could he? He barely knew the lad, and no searing sensation at the back of the brain would see him break somebody without tangible cause first. 

"Yuh' hear me?" He shouted, the distance closed, Farrin drawing up at Leo's side, "have we e'er met before?"

Leo’s focus was interrupted as a voice called out dampening his runner’s high, Leo tried to fight off the sensation of his lowering endorphins as that strange sense of anger welled up inside him again “What tha hell does he want?! Can’t he see I’m in tha middle ah somethin. Tha old man would have my hide if he knew I was gettin distracted durin trainin, so focus up Leo'' It was an odd thing to have someone trying to interact with him during his training, the only people who he was used to doing that were the old man and the “proctors'' at the facility but even then the later was mostly machines or other prospects he was testing against. Strange still was even with his quirk inactive the speedster could feel his classmate closing the distance it was unsettling.     Once more the Irishman called out to him the gap steadily closing until his classmate drew up to Leo’s side continuing their incessant questions “I heard ya tha first time, but if you haven’t noticed kind ah in the middle of somethin” He didn’t mean to sound annoyed but between the strange anger that bubbled somewhere deep down inside him and the interruption to his first run in an long time (as far as he could tell) the boxer couldn’t quite help it. “Doesn’t matter does it? Ya should focus on what’s infront of ya” Leo was warmed up turning back to the track in front of him he picked up his pace to his maximum unboosted speed attempting to put some distance between himself and his classmate trying to salvage what was left of his training time.  TAGS Farrin NOTES  Abilities Being Used: B+ Speed

he fecker was fast. Had a bit of an attitude too. But he wasn't Farrin fast. At least not while Chronokinesis was up. As Leo picked up speed, Farrin did the same. So far, he hadn't met a single student, hell, not even a teacher, that could keep pace with his full speed. Even Leonid almost fell under Farin's fist due to the speed advantage the time-turner held over most. Still, this fella made him queasy, like his gut was knotting tighter and tighter with the closeness of their proximity. 

"What? Yuh' can't walk n' talk?" Farrin jabbed the challenge, maybe this approach might loosen Leo's lips. " 'Sides, what's in front o' me right now is the oddity of feelin' like we've met somewhere before despite me' not remember havin' e'er done so. So I'll ask again, have we e'er met?" 

They were kicking up to speeds that nearly crossed into the unnatural. Only the most talented and skilled of athletes could run like this. Was this guy using his quirk? Or had he just put that much time and effort into his sprint? Outside of his Temporal State, Farrin wouldn't have been able to keep up - courtesy of Chronokinesis's drain on his speed while outside the former state. Even without that drain though, he wasn't sure yet anymore what he was capable of. 

"I can do this all day, lad" Farrin added to the former comments. 

That much was true. He could run for quite a while, and the extra oomph from his Temporal State definitely didn't hurt. Why was this guy resisting though? Why not just answer the question? It only made him seem more suspicious, and stirred all the more curiosity in the time-turner, even if he had to endure this insufferable headache.

This guy wasn’t too bad, he was keeping pace at his full un boosted speed. There weren’t too many people he knew from back home who could do that, although that being said he didn't know too many people from back home anyway. Leo sucked his teeth in annoyance at the time turner’s jab as another lap was added to the growing count that he completed, the speedster didn’t like the tone his apparent classmate had used “Listen buddy ya don’t have a clue what I can and can’t do so don’t go assumin nuthin”     The buzzing pain in the back of Leo’s head continued adding to the growing frustration the boxer felt with every step. Was this guy using his quirk or was he naturally just this fast? He had spent so much time with the old man working on his speed, he had known there were going to be people close to his speed to go against that’s why the old man had wanted him to go here instead of some other school, after all the geezer wanted to push Leo to be the best he could. It was just unfortunate the Irishman seemed to be one of those people.     Leo was tempted to just answer the question hoping to get his classmate to finally leave him alone so he could get back to his running in peace, that was until those six words left the time tuner’s mouth “I can do this all day?! Like I fuckin can’t!” Taking his eyes off the track in front of him Leo spoke to Farrin in a confident tone “How bout this, a race around the track you win I’ll answer your question I win ya do one thing for me.” He wasn’t going to let this guy keep disrespecting him like this. nlike the former time tyrant, Farrin had been using his quirk already. Without it, Chronokinesis slowed him to a crawl. However, having already been in his temporal state, not only did he move faster, but the world around Farrin felt slower. That included Leo's reply. The words had hardly left his mouth when Farrin agreed. 

"Loud n' clear, boyo," Farrin accepted.

He slammed the temporal pedal down and cranked the speedometer up to max. What was an equal pace just a moment prior turned into Farrin flying forward, down the track, Every inch he put between himself and Leo cooled the back of his brain. Distance was a blizzard atop the forest fire. 

For whatever reason Leo had chosen to be so resistant to Farrin's simple question, he had chosen the wrong game to challenge Farrin in. Farrin turned time around himself to run along its course faster, making the world feel slower around him. White tufts of temporal flamed burned in and out of existence around him, joined by emerald sparks as he turned up the power of his quirk.

These elements lacked the qualities of their natural counterparts, but at the quirk scientists bests guess when he was younger, they were the mind's way of interpreting time being forced into the visible world. There was plenty of temporal gas in the tank still, and a lap around the track would be over in all of a few seconds unless Leo's quirk could do something about it. But what were the odds of that? After all, speed was Farrin's domain.

The moment the declaration of the challenge had left Leo’s mouth Farrin had taken off accelerating forward pulling away from the boxer. Leo couldn’t help but smile as he reached down to the jacket tied around his waist pulling it free and in one swift fluid motion donning the depiction of Raijin. With every step he took Leo could feel an all too familiar feeling build inside of him, the feeling of needing to beat someone in absolute speed, the feeling of a starving beast locked in a cage that wanted nothing more than to devour the space in front of it with every step. And it was time to let that beast out.     Leo closed his eyes taking a deep breath, the sphere of influence that was Zone expanded centering itself on the boxer encompassing a large area. Its invisible reach expanded, devouring as much space as it could until it finally reached its maximum size finding the punk’s classmate within its Ation Radius. Leo’s eyes snapped open as the familiar feeling of his quirk surged through his body, like thousands of lightning bolts in a massive storm were coursing through his veins. The speedster leaned forward before accelerating quickly, closing the gap between the time turner in front of him.     The feeling of kicking into high gear and eating up the ground in front of him was intoxicating and an addiction he would never be able to kick nor would he want to “Reach him! Outrun him! Let this rush carry ya!” Steam began to stream off his body “There ain’t no second lap so use everythin ya got!” this feeling that filled his mind and body was one that only he got to experience, Leo was no more in that instance swallowed by the thrill Raijin had made his appearance and his storm would consume the track and all before him after all absolute speed was Raijin’s domain. ime turned, but not the way Farrin expected. As a matter of fact, it didn’t feel as though it was truly turning at all. More like it was siphoned out into the ether. The temporal air content diminished, like sucking the oxygen out of the room.

“What in the bloody hell?” Farrin questioned himself as his pace slowed.

He remained faster than many, but he couldn’t touch his top speed, his ability to blitz even the best. Something was wrong. He turned his head to find the source of the sensation. He wasn't only slowing down, but Leo was speeding up. His quirk. It touched time, somehow.

With every step the former time tyrant took, the burning sensation in the back of Farrin’s brain grew. It was a wildfire devouring the earth. Stronger now that Chronokinesis was interacting directly with Zone. Memories from another time, from another story, ran through Farrin’s mind like a film. Fissures across the temporal sea, threads shattering as time itself broke apart. His chest went heavy, Leo only just a few meters back now.

“Two can play at that game,” Farrin cursed through grit teeth.

Walls of translucent emerald burned into existence behind him, spanning each lane, the entire width of the track. Temporal deceleration fields. Farrin’s slow wasn’t a passive thing like Leo’s, but the effects were extremely potent. As Leo passed through the field, assuming he did, and a few seconds after he exited, he too would find his movements slowed.

It’s not how Farrin preferred to race, but in a game of speed, he stood ever-defiant in the face of defeat.
