What's a sports competition without a swimming segment? It was inevitable really. As the summer season died down, the showrunners had to fit water in its agenda before it became too cold to swim. Not that it would be a problem if they had to host it another time- Elijah was pretty sure the institute would force them to go in the water at any season as part of their hero training. Plus Ultra and all that. At least they had access to their gear this time. Quirkless no longer screwed over like they were in the sky challenge. Elijah's right arm was a shade of green that was a stark contrast compared to the rest of his skin, exposed with a sleeveless wetsuit so he could control it freely during the competition. His dreads were tucked in a swim cap of his own as it'd be a nightmare to get them ruined, and his rebreather hung around his neck. He left his daggers behind except for one that was attached to his hip. As he waited for the challenge to start, he scanned his competition as well, everyone looking equally over-equipped. Not that he could blame them. Anything to win. Discoloured eyes eventually landed on the figure standing beside him, looking... well. "You don't look well." That. Elijah had been acquainted with Yaoyao for a while, so for her to seem so different from her usual headstrong self struck him as odd. Kikurage Shimeiji, Yasu & Yume, 𝕐 + 𝕐

"Steady hand. I was aiming for the middle of the torso but I hit the shoulder instead, but I didn't correct it immediately. Instead I continued to fire on the shoulder to make sure I was consistent before adjusting." Elijah eyed the hero's hold on his weapon and nodded. "Makes sense. I imagine my prosthetic makes me more resistant to recoil, but I felt it on my shoulder. Is that your dominant or can you shoot with both hands? How different is your hold if you can use both?" Being ambidextrous would likely be an asset, especially with how often his metal arm was compromised. Things like to eat it for some reason. He rolled his eyes at the slight callout. "I've worked with them before. Two of my arms are made by students. With one adding a foam dispenser to it that I didn't ask for and the other making it more plant than arm however, they're either more keen in proving themselves capable than fulfilling a request, or their specialty is not with guns."Elijah enabled the safety on his gun - it was empty, he counted the shots, but better to make a habit of it now - before continuing. "I'm not complaining, by the way. I'm just speaking from experience."lonewolf

Elijah hummed, seeing a point in the hero's words. "I deem these lessons mandatory still though, for cases where we have to disarm the opponent or my arm is disabled." He thought back to an instance where both occurred. He lost his prosthetic to a human garburator and had to take a gun from an adversary. He failed at the latter, alive only because his colleague redirected the bullet. The student sighed. He needed to be better. Elijah adjusted his stance as told, nodding at the hero's words. Once he was done with his instruction the student wore the ear protection properly before firing. The round clipped the shoulder which he wasn't aiming for, but rather than adjust immediately, he kept his hand steady, vying for consistency first and foremost as Lone Wolf described. Only when he hit the shoulder multiple times in a row did he shift his gun towards centre mass and fired once. Still not as accurate as what he usually was - knives were different from guns - but he was getting there. Sighing, Elijah pointed the gun downwards and lowered his ear muffs before glancing towards his instructor. "Fair. I plan to commission Recall to build the arm because frankly I don't trust the support majors to only include what's necessary in the device. I'll be sure to request the additional safety measures."lonewolf

Pressure. Elijah was familiar with it. Not just with the kind people felt when consequences were on the horizon, but also the type where two forces were exerted against each other. Similar to objects weighing down on the surface he sunk into, he should've felt something when he successfully hit his opponent. But he didn't. The mistake would cost him. His eyes snapped to the flare as soon as he registered the illusion. Gen's true location; where he meant to attack from this whole time. His arm now acted as a hindrance instead of the boon it was supposed to be. He wouldn't be able to reel it back fast enough to regain his mobility. So Elijah drew his dagger from his side and cut it off. The fake arm of course. He felt the heat on his face by the time he let the vines fall, running past them before they landed in the hopes it would at least block the fire's reach, at least for the time being. Kurokami Gen

Elijah tilted his head. Had he misunderstood him? He was pretty clear. "Trigger. Not trigger guard. My question is about whether a method exists to prevent firing a weapon where the trigger is internal." Now that he thought about it, his idea was probably not something the man would expect. It was a gun, but not a normal one. After watching Lone Wolf demonstrate the hold on his weapon, Elijah put on the goggles and hung the ear protection around his neck. "I'm considering adding a firearm to my arsenal of prosthetics." He tapped on the arm he had currently, metal clanging evident in the action. "It doesn't make sense to use my left hand to fire the gun installed in my right, so I'm welcome to ideas on how to make the trigger less cumbersome to use while maximizing its safety."With his explanation finished, he loaded his loaned revolver and held it up to point at the robots he trained with earlier, making sure to position his finger above the guard before awaiting further instruction. lonewolf

When using his Quirk to hide instead of move, Elijah would count the seconds he was under. It was the only thing he could do beyond feeling the panel shake with each attack against it. And hope it wouldn't break or fall while he was inside. Ten seconds. Twenty. Thirty. He let himself sit for a minute before escaping. There was no signal when Elijah appeared again. The only way he could know the challenge ended was by seeing several people lay on the floor, exhausted from giving their all. Dual coloured eyes would land on each, counting the remaining bodies. Among them was the fast one. His balloons threatened to spill from his basket with how high they were stacked, so he wouldn't be surprised if he was near the top, if not first place. Elijah looked at his own. Not nearly as many balloons were inside. It would probably put him in the middle of the standings. He sighed. Average. Just like always. Farrin

Elijah half-expected someone to save him. The university was full of altruists; people who would lend a hand without hesitation, even when doing so would cost them their standing in the competition. It was a trademark held by many heroes. Why even be here if you didn't have the drive to help others? When no one came to his rescue, there was a sigh of what could almost be relief. Either he was so invisible that no one noticed his plight - a trait he favoured as someone who wanted to work underground in the future - or winning was more important to these contestants. At least they had their head in the game. It meant he wasn't wrong for doing the same. Elijah swung his basket over first, letting it rest on the ledge. Then, momentarily letting go of it, he gripped on the edge with both hands. He pulled himself up. Only to watch someone with wings slam down on the ground, a gust of wind spreading outward from their person. A move of some sort? Similar to the water. The dreaded student was in no position to evade it, not from where he was. Unless... Well. It was either that or fail. With a grit of his teeth, Elijah took his basket of balloons and sunk into the floor. Farrin

The daggers dug into something, but the sudden chill surprised the scarred student, eyes widening at the fractured image of his opponent. A harsh sigh escaped him. It was a miss but at least it drew out another one of his roommate's powers. He wasn't sure if he had anything to tackle the ice with though. But that was a problem for another time, because Gen was moving again to reveal- Ah. There was the fire he expected. The mind was a funny thing. One would expect him to have flashbacks of his home upon seen the flames. How they burned his family alive. How he nearly met the same fate. How it was all his fault, all because he got tiny hands on a lighter. He didn't though. What occupied his mind instead was how the violet hue that engulfed Gen's arm matched the re-triggered flames of their dorm. Because he wanted to give Elijah a hard time on his first day or something. To think he really wanted to sell that story of how it was all an accident. That was enough reminiscing though. Elijah closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them again, his stare was trained not on the embers but on the man himself. His plan was simple. Don't give him a chance to fire. He steadied his stance as he reared his right arm back to prepare a punch. Normally it would be ineffective; his opponent kept well out of arm's length with the way he was floating, so it would be impossible to reach him from where he was standing. But when he threw his fist forward, his arm grew. And grew. And grew. Plant fibres crossed the distance between the two students, and his prosthetic split into several vines at the halfway point. His goal was to have them surround Gen on all sides and ensnare him that way to restrict his movement. Maybe throw him out of the ring if he was lucky. Elijah was never known for his luck though. Swift, but methodical. That was how Elijah was tackling this challenge. Catching the balloons while keeping his existing ones safe was difficult; he clicked his tongue whenever one fell out of his basket due to landing too hard or some other maneuver. And before he could recover it, it would slide along the floor before dropping off into the abyss below. Well, not an actual abyss but you get the idea. Sticking to the goal was all he could do though. Balloon catching. Obstacle avoiding. It wasn't like he could do much else when he couldn't target the other students, nor did he have the means to affect an area in a way others could. Like that one person making the geyser and spilling water everywhere. Ah, crap. Elijah was among those caught in the wave, the water sweeping him off his feet and carrying him toward the edge. He had no way to slow down. Not without compromising his points. His eyes were instead trained on the ground ahead until- He caught the side of the panel with his prosthetic hand, basket clutched tightly in the other as he dangled above his surefire way to lose. Great. This is just- great. Farrin

Elijah eyed the gun as he listened to the rule he missed, making a face at how Lone Wolf was explaining it. "You could just say finger you know." Because booger hook? Seriously? A question cropped up in his head but he'll withhold it until the instructor was finished. There was a slight furrow of his brow at all the safety gear. Seemed impractical to wear all that on the field, but he'll forgive the over-preparation for the purpose of practice. He caught the bullet easily, bringing it up to his face to examine it closely. "Fair. I expect nothing more than the basics today either way. Maximum distance?" If he were honest, gun safety was about as far as his knowledge went. The names beyond rifle were unfamiliar to him. Elijah lowered the bullet to look at the man head on, his initial question ready to be relayed. "And what if the gun has no visible trigger to rest your finger on?" lonewolf

Telekinesis. Or rather, "Esper" he supposed. It was a new power Gen was showcasing in the fight, used to deflect the knives he threw. A simple enough maneuver to differentiate from letting himself get stabbed. It begged the question though: why not use it on the person charging straight at him? The resistance Elijah would offer would be minimal; he wasn't particularly heavy nor strong. Not to mention the fact he was Quirkless. Gen knew this since the first day they met. As far as he knew, throwing him out the arena with his mind would've been simple. Yet the power was only used on the knives. Maybe there was a drawback at play. For every boon the man took up, he had to work with its weaknesses as well. Whoever had the Quirk likely couldn't use it on people, either because of their weight or maybe because they were not inanimate. Heck, maybe there was no reason at all. Not every power needed to have rules. Whatever it was, it suited Elijah just fine. It meant he had no need switch up his plan, at least for the time being. The dreaded student continued his charge, not letting the deflected blades slow his step. Only when he was close enough did he aim his daggers towards his torso in the hopes of pushing him back that way. Kurokami Gen

Elijah didn't know Farrin well, but from what little he's seen of the man during the challenge, he was fast. Could clear distances with ease, letting him speed away from the tiles long before they could even begin to fall. Didn't seem capable of flight so while the challenge wouldn't be a cakewalk for him, he still had things easy. His reaction time didn't seem to be as quick though. Go figure. As the student responsible for the beam was pulled away from the arena, Elijah glanced at other sophomore's scorched clothes before rolling his eyes. "Direct your annoyance to that person. It's not like I planned for them to throw the competition." Seriously, who knew one pop was all it took for someone to forget the rules? It certainly wasn't his problem. Elijah returned his focus to catching balloons, brows furrowed in concentration as he noted something else. He didn't seem to be the only one to find loopholes. Students were starting to aim attacks on the ground, breaking parts the stage early. He had to preemptively jump to avoid the loss of flooring. At the rate they were going, there may be no ground left to stand on soon. Farrin

Elijah paused in his throwing when he heard the instructor's voice, knife still held in his hand as he turned his head to him. "Hey. Thank you, and yes. Knives do not cover the distance a gun does." If he was to use his Quirk - eugh - to its fullest, he needed the range. The ability to relocate quickly was going to benefit him in the long run. Lowering his hand, he turned to fully face the man and sniffed at his request. It was trivial; of course he would research the topic in preparation for the lesson he himself asked for. Why waste the man's time with not knowing the basics? He'd seen what other students were like though, so he didn't blame Lone Wolf for testing him. "Don't point it at anything you don't intend to shoot. Guns should be unloaded when not in use. Be aware of the target and what's beyond it."Elijah continued his list as he walked down the steps of the bank, crouching next to the robots to fetch his daggers. "Do not rely on the gun's safety. Ensure no obstructions exist in the weapon before shooting. Use the correct ammunition." Sheathing his knives away, he stood and made his way towards Lone Wolf, stopping in front of him before tucking his hands in his pockets. "Did I miss anything important?"lonewolf
