It was obvious Gen was trying to rile him up. He always aimed at people's weaknesses with his scathing remarks, and the way he set out to deal with Elijah was no exception. It really didn't take a genius to see how he got his scars. He pressed his lips together. Definitely expecting a lot of fire then. In any case, he executed his first move and it was a direct hit. Now how would Gen respond to that? By taking out the knife and stabbing himself in the face with it apparently. Elijah expected many things, but that wasn't one of them. "Yikes." As the crowd wretched at the scene, he squinted. Gen didn't block the attack. Didn't hold Emilia's durability, where the knife would've just bounced off her. So either he took the hit on purpose to show off his healing, or he genuinely wasn't fast enough to dodge and he happened to not have a Quirk similar to Emilia's. He didn't know which it was yet. But in standing close to the sophomore compared to the watchers, Elijah did notice the discomfort, minimal and temporary as it was. He tilted his head. Interesting. He opted not to comment on that part, instead responding to the rest of the act Gen so readily put up. "Thank you for demonstrating. You have no reason to complain then." Plenty of times he had to replace his metal blades with wood during spars due to how lethal they were. Explosive energies and punches that can decimate concrete were a default for some, yet somehow a knife was what people worried about. At least he didn't have to hold back here. The healing would've made the matchup impossible if knocking someone down was the only goal. As it stood, even if Elijah was going to lose, at least he could go for the other option. "It also means there's only one way left for me to win." He didn't need to explain further. Gen would know. So without further preamble, Elijah quickly sent out two more knives before closing the distance himself, larger daggers gripped in both hands. Kurokami Gen

And there were the theatrics Elijah was expecting. Man of many powers aiming for a grand entrance was not surprising to him. Though as cool as it would've been for him to remain passive to the display, even he was momentarily overwhelmed by it; his brow furrowing and real hand moving to plug one of his ears to dampen the noise. It didn't have much effect from the way he winced. There was an attempt at least. But he was learning. Gen was a fan of fire, and his ability to stand in the midst of it unharmed confirmed the suspicions he had when he first saw it. Possible he was going to use that a lot in the fight then. Compared to the student dressed to impress, Elijah outfitted himself in something more practical. Beyond the PE outfit provided by the university - which even he would agree was hideous but he didn't particularly care about his appearance - he wore a vest over it that held his throwing knives, as well as holsters at his sides for his larger daggers. Looks that could kill to a different degree. Elijah sighed once all the noise and fire was shut off, lowering his hand. He didn't react much more than that, even when Gen declared his surefire win. They were on the same page in that regard. He would make one thing clear though. "Show too much of your power and you'll eventually expose weaknesses that can be exploited. Personally..." He drew a knife with his right arm. His prosthetic, usually metallic in nature, now sported a suspicious shade of green. "I'm interested to see how fast I find one."The alarm that signalled the start of the match sounded, and Elijah launched his weapon straight at his opponent's torso, flying faster than what he was usually capable of.
OOC: B- strength because he's using the Vine! The knife is thrown with this arm. Kurokami Gen

Nothing represented UAU better than a challenge that screwed over the Quirkless. That was where Elijah's mindset was at as he flexed his prosthetic removed of its usual tooling. Energies from within and natural wings so some competitors could fly around with ease, yet he couldn't so much as utilize a grappling hook. He sighed. Weaker than his peers, as usual. Elijah focused on the task regardless. He didn't hold the trepidation others had with the crumbling arena, swiftly catching balloons in his basket while avoiding the spills and holes that were beginning to litter the area. Careful steps, but not too careful. Hesitation will be his downfall here. A wayward question entered his ears. The time-turner asked no one in particular but Elijah answered anyway. " I imagine not. Observe." He drew a dagger from his vest, so primitive that he was allowed to have some, and launched it at an oncoming balloon. It popped, pouring water over an unsuspecting student's head. The heat he emitted cause steam to rise. "Hey! You're gonna pay for that!" And while forgetting the rules in the heat of the moment, the student pointed his open palm Elijah's way, his hand glowing before a laser shot out. The sophomore sidestepped it, letting it pass him and continue its course towards Farrin. Farrin

Several robots stood on the streets of Ground Beta, all of different sizes and distances from the bank they encircled. To the onlooker it seemed like a heist was being simulated for whomever was training in the area. To the student in the simulation, it was target practice. One bot found a dagger in its head before falling over. Elijah drew another knife from his vest as he took a step up the bank's stairs. More distance to train his aim. Taking a deep breath, he let his knife fly. It caught the next automaton's shoulder, the resulting blow pushing it back. He was making use of his time. Being early for a meeting meant he was alone for now, so he was working on his accuracy as he waited. He felt the impromptu practice to be important either way. He was going to learn how to use a gun soon after all. lonewolf

Kurokami Gen. All For One. Wielder of hundreds of Quirks. The hero to be feared by enemies and allies alike. Thorn to everyone who had the displeasure of exposing themselves to him. Elijah's roommate. For some reason. In any case, none of those titles mattered today. For today, Gen was his opponent in the fighting portion of the festival. One on one. Knock down or knock out. Simple rules, though the multiple Quirks thing should actually matter. Unlike the dreamers of the university, Elijah was realistic. He didn't expect himself to win, no matter how much he (read: others) wanted Gen to lose. At best he'd use this fight as a learning experience; see what the other student chose for powers when the number of choices he had may be infinite. Because again, he was a realist. And the fact was everyone had their preferences. Elijah stepped into the arena without fanfare, hands tucked in his pockets, and waited for his opponent to show himself. Kurokami Gen

In hindsight, Elijah should've known that the pretend villain would just anchor herself to the containers when the floor was no longer an option. Her tendrils' range was farther than what he could cover with his foam. It looked like there was an unintended consequence of relocating however; Scylla's movement was halted due to the ice. Furrowing his brow at Michael's plan, he pressed his communicator to respond. "Not in my skillset, but sure." Distractions weren't his specialty. Everything he's trained himself in led to the opposite really, where he usually would be able to sneak past obstacles without anyone being the wiser. Sneaking was out of the question here though. Nor did he have time to come up with ways to draw the villain's attention at all. Her attack impaled his arm. The fake one, thankfully, but it's left him pinned to the ground by his shoulder as more tendrils were shot his way. Gritting his teeth, Elijah drew daggers from his vest with his free hand and threw them at the oncoming limbs. They clanged against the metal, nowhere strong enough to cut through but they were at least diverted enough to dig into the concrete next to his waist or leg. He was running out of knives though. Hopefully Scylla was captured before then.
OOC: One tendril from Hebiru Scylla's attack jabs through Elijah's prosthetic, pinning him to the ground. He throws knives to redirect the following tendrils so they don't hit him directly. Yanai Hebiru, Samaritan, Jouma Joukou, Ylva Riis

Elijah's half-lidded stare was directed at the professor this time. As if it should be obvious why he hadn't reported the mess. "I imagine the faculty have received many such reports, if Kurokami's mention of you giving up on assigning him a roommate was anything to go by. Yet he is still here. Acting as he had always been, judging by your reaction to his presence. I doubt another account would do anything." This instructor may be more concerned about him than the sophomore, but it didn't change the fact the sophomore had been enrolled for a year so far despite his conduct. "So I wanted to make it clear that whatever methods he employs won't work on me."Speaking of methods, seemed like Gen had no plans to acquiesce. Unsurprising with the way he carried himself so far. He had full control of the scene; shaped it in a way where his word could be seen as nothing but fact while Elijah's were all lies. The ones that pointed to Gen as a culprit at least. He readily agreed that Elijah started the fire. The freshman didn't feel the same sense of pressure from the sophomore that he had with the instructor. While the hardened hero dug deep for the truth to understand the situation, Gen wanted to overwhelm him into standing down. He said as such earlier. Who were they going to believe?Elijah let the silence sit after Gen's questions. He wasn't one to rush with his responses. His side was just as important, so they could wait. After a few seconds have passed, he spoke. "Hawthorne." Obviously meant to rile him up, but he will choose to assume Gen needed to be corrected again. He eyed the mess on the bed and the black bag that still existed. "I wouldn't call it spotless. Note the state of the bed. It was like that when I got here. The garbage bag is full of empty cans that were scattered around the room as well before I picked them up."His focus shifted back to the hero, because at the end of the day the state of the room wasn't important. "In any case, it would've been impossible for me to clean up the whole thing between my pulling the fire alarm and your arrival. I was with Kurokami the whole time. Had he seen me do so he would've stated as such instead of make conjectures."He glanced at the sophomore then. "Especially since he assumed I had a Quirk when I'm Quirkless."Turning to fully face Gen, Elijah sniffed. "It's as you said, Kurokami. You 'made sure to extinguish the fire and repair the damages with a few Quirks' after I pulled the fire alarm." He tilted his head. "Unless you wish to detract that statement and point fingers at an imaginary third party."Kurokami Gen

Elijah gave Gen a half-lidded stare at his comment. He just met him today yet the sophomore made his conduct very apparent. He looked back at the instructor and nodded. "Correct." Then he fell quiet for a moment. How much was he willing to tell, he wondered. He already walked back on the deal he never agreed to, so the truth was fair game. But how much of it? Gen already erased the excessive garbage that would've justified - in his mind - the need for the fire. It would look as if he started it for no reason. But then he remembered his credibility didn't matter. So he simply told the man everything. "There were two fires," Elijah began. "The room was initially filled with garbage, excessively so. Kurokami was already in the room when I arrived and made no move to clean the mess, so I assumed it was intentional in order to deter me for some reason. Rather than report it, I aimed to get rid of the trash in the most efficient way I knew how. By burning it."He paused to give the instructor time to let it sink in. He was claiming responsibility after all; that would surely be surprising. "The fire was controlled. I had an extinguisher with me and I was able to put it out once it ate through the largest pile of trash. Kurokami restarted it however." Elijah squinted at the sophomore with tired eyes before returning his gaze to the teacher. "I wasn't able to put it out, and at the time I didn't know the second fire was his doing. Assuming it to be unnatural, I dragged Kurokami out of the room before pulling the fire alarm."While we waited for someone more suitable for the task to come and extinguish the blaze, Kurokami attempted to strike a deal with me. If I switched dorm rooms, he would erase my involvement in the incident, as is evident in the story he relayed to you. Should I refuse however, he would use his longer tenure in UAU over me to convince the faculty that what I've done was worse than it was and that I should be expelled. I questioned why he would risk his standing in the university just to secure a room for himself."Elijah sighed. This was a lot of talking for him. "I lied because he went ahead with his deal even though I never accepted it, and he hid most of the mess to reduce my credibility should I tell the truth."He nodded his head. "That's my side. I will take whatever punishment is befitting for my hand in the fire." Hopefully whatever it was would be short in phrasing. He's just about ready to pass out. Kurokami Gen

"No talking? Can you read minds?" Elijah furrowed his brow at Ylva's command. "If we're unaware of each other's actions, we will fail." Communication wasn't his strong suit, but even he knew it was necessary to keep a group of practically strangers on the same page. He sighed. This was why he preferred to work alone. Elijah watched the fight from the corner of his eye. Ice stretched on to freeze some metal arms in place. Axe took advantage of their brittle state to shatter them to bits. Other tendrils slammed down on the ground in an attempt to force the freckled student out. A sound strategy had he still been there, but with his ability to relocate without showing signs of doing such, he needn't even worry about having to weave through the onslaught. What proved more insightful for him however were the tendrils stretched from Scylla to the ground. They anchored her in place. Promoted stability. Acted as points of weakness. With Michael taking point on addressing the villain directly, Elijah didn't need to expose himself to her counterattack at all. Another press to his earpiece to relay his next course of action. "Dislodging the tendrils keeping Scylla anchored. Mind the expanding foam." Then, with deep breath and a flex of his prosthetic hand, Elijah ran out of hiding to fire foam on the ground. He did this for each embedded arrow tip, making sure to cover a wide area with each spray so she couldn't just reposition her appendages.
OOC: Elijah chastises Ylva's order to cease communications, ignoring it entirely to tell the others he's spraying the ground with foam before doing so. Don't need to go for Scylla's back after all 🫡 Yanai Hebiru, Samaritan, Jouma Joukou, Ylva Riis,

And just like that, the goose was loose. Its reaction to freedom was about what Elijah expected. No gratitude displayed whatsoever, for why would it show it? It was just a wild animal at the end of the day. It simply returned to what it was doing before, like honking at the student. Though now some of the heads were biting at the hook, presumably to free its brethren from its clutches. Would they be counted as multiple geese even? Shaking his head, Elijah detached his hook from the fowl before it could hurt itself and reeled it back into his arm. With the increased distance between them he felt this was a good opportunity to leave. So he did, by grappling from one tree to the next. As he covered more ground, the cries of the beast faded away, and soon enough it was gone completely. The student continued on regardless in case it learned to quiet itself to catch him by surprise. Elijah ended up next to a stream. Ducks swam in its waters. Taking that as a good sign, he dropped down from the branches and sat down under it with a sigh. He was safe. For now. Talk about a hectic hike though. Picking up his phone, he dialled a number and brought it to his ear. His dad was going to want to hear this. Goose

"Affirmative," came Elijah's answer to Yuki Onna's message. As one of the students who kept the guards outside the warehouse from going in, he came into the next phase a little worse for wear, exhaustion evident in his strained breath and sweat on his brow. Endurance wasn't his specialty. He would've preferred to strike silently than take part in the chaos the mission turned into. But you know. He couldn't have such luxuries even in a simulation. Elijah furrowed his brow at his new teammate's words as he ran alongside him, trying his best to focus where he thought his eyes would be - the balloon head was making it difficult. "Do you have insight into her being amenable enough to stand down? Authorities could not meet her demands. That's why we are on this mission." A fake one, sure, but the little he's seen gave him some idea on how the stand-in villain would act. And an all-out assault was about what he expected. As the containers opened up to let out said assault, he sighed. He unfortunately knew how to avoid them altogether too. The student sunk into the ground, underneath all the tendrils, mentally chastising himself for taking the easy way out. But the instructors had been pushing him to use his quirk more, so there he was. Using it more. Here's hoping they wouldn't bother him so much about it after this assignment. He resurfaced at the side of one of the open containers, leaning against it as he pressed into his earpiece. "Try to get her off-balance without alerting her to my presence. I can bring her to our level." Then he rolled his eyes at the guy complaining about his clothes. "And take up sewing. No waiting on stores and you save money."
OOC: Elijah comes in tired but still kicking! He questions Michael's confidence in Gorgon Scylla being amenable, before using his Quirk to sink into the ground and avoid the oncoming tendrils. Once he's out he tells the others to knock Scylla off-balance and for Jouma to just fix his outfit. Yanai Hebiru, Samaritan, Jouma Joukou, Ylva Riis

So desperation was how Emilia was able to get the titan off herself. It made sense; she would've been dead had she not pushed herself to combat the force weighed down on her. In a way he was the same- unable to replicate the control he once had with her body since his life was no longer on the line in those other attempts. Even now, having one's arm chewed off by a goat was not nearly as threatening. Elijah said as much. "It's just an arm. I can get another."He felt it apt not to mention his lack of care for losing either one. In any case, he tightened his grip on the post at the girl's request before squinting at the glow she emitted. Some more crunching sounds later and the creature was shoved off and away, soon chased by the handlers meant to care for the animals in the petting zoo. Elijah looked at his prosthetic. Other than the dent from Emilia's grip, his wrist was nearly cut clean through from the bite. His fingers only twitched in response to his intention of making a fist. He glanced her way at her exclamation and stared at her half-lidded. "Hooray."With a sigh, he pushed himself up, something catching his eye once he did so. He silently wandered away, eventually returning with two bags of cotton candy. "I'm heading home. This outing has taken time from my training as it is." He placed one of the bags in Emilia's hands. "For freeing my arm."Elijah would turn around then, raising a hand to wave behind him. "See you Hall. Have fun with the rest of the festival." With that he began to walk away. Little did he knew he wasn't going to make it back to campus that night. Emilia Hall
