Khepri's stomach turned. Something about mutant quirkers being paraded around like a freak show really rubbed them the wrong way. They couldn't quite put their finger on why but their voice sounds just the slightest but colder than before without themself even realizing it, a stark contrast with the smile still on their face.

"No, talking about food is important. You don't stop being hungry when you get kidnapped." Khepri didn't elaborate in the slightest as to how they knew nor did they think about it. Then was then and now is now. Without realizing it their thumbs start scratching at their other three fingers, almost like a nervous tick. "I've been practicing a lot for rescue missions so I'll come along. What are we waiting for, let's go?"

Their eyes flicked from person to person with almost nervous tension, inspecting their reaction and seemingly contemplating something like a true Sphinx of ancient myth.

"Soup." They repeated with a happy nod. "That's fine, can I wait here until they're done?" Khepri added with a tilt of their head. Returning to the dorm before they replaced the spoons seemed like a bad idea for some reason they didn't feel like thinking about. 

"Yeah, back of the spoon. For balance. I don't want the front to fall off."

Leaning over the drawing Khepri squinted their eyes, turned the paper sideways, upside down and finally over to look at it from the back before nodding. "Yeah, like this but Egyptian." 

Attentively listening to Masao's reasoning on the magic Khepri found themself agreeing. No one can do everything and magic and metals were two very different subjects. Why, in a great many folklores around the world they were actively detrimental to each other. Some tales had it so that mages didn't wear armor because metal stopped mana. Others had anything related to magic be weak to metal such as the fae, albeit Khepri knew that was different because the fae were only kept away by 'cold iron' which meant iron not warmed in blood and was a scary story to keep people from going to war when it wasn't necessary lest they lost their immunity to the tricks of the fae. 

Just like the fae though magic was tricky. Some magical knowledge was even dangerous so clearly just knowing things could have consequences. Maybe it was for the best if Masao didn't know. It might make them worse at smithing.

"Okay, I'll do that and when I do I promise I'll try not to tell you."

Because that was what heroes did. Keep secrets if it was for the greater good. Khepri themself had kept many of their illegal outings a secret for the greater good so they had plenty of experience. Why, only about seventy percent of the people back home knew of their outings, second-hand recountings notwithstanding!

"I don't know, the knowledge was in my head. It might be word of mouth but maybe it was word of text? I'm not sure. I've read a lot of things so it might've been on one of them. Sometimes I read wrong though so it could be that I know because it wasn't on there."

Their attention strayed as they looked around the forge, spotting all the tools, doodads, knick knacks and other things they also didn't know the name for but probably had one. There was no way the fae stole it after all, not with all the iron in here. Not unless they had the completely wrong idea about Masao.

"Hey what's that called?" Khepri asked while pointing at a random place without looking where. "I think I had one of those back home but I'm not sure. It might've just been something that sounded like it."

When the next person came in Khepri greeted him with a cheery wave, listened to his words and then went wide-eyed.

"Have you seen souls? I can't find them no matter where I look."

It'd been a fun two week adventure but Khepri hadn't made the slightest bit of headway in their goal. Every time they thought they found what they were looking for it turned out to be something else. Spotting another person coming in Khepri pointed at him. "Oh, I think he brought the snacks."

The comment about Halloween caught Khepri's interest. Was that when vigilante meetups usually happened? Their eyes widened. Was that why everyone wore costumes on that day? But the sheer amount of planning something like that would take...

Khepri remained utterly lost in thought while more and more people came in, absentmindedly waving at them, each theory that popped into their head being more outlandish than the last. Only when Ghouligan spoke up once more did the train reach its station with a metaphorical puff of steam coming out of their ears letting the catbug refocus on their surroundings.

Khepri agreed with most of his points. They were lost and alone so often, sometimes even while they were on their way to the hero institution. Whether involving others would help with that they weren't sure of but it couldn't hurt to find out right? Attentively listening to everyone's introductions they tried their best not to get sidetracked agai-

Was that a skeleton falling out of a trash can?

They were once more reminded of their past adventure, albeit that time the skeleton hadn't gotten up nor did it start talking. Did that mean this one had a soul? Khepri didn't know nor did they have too much time to focus on it, it was their turn to introduce themself if they weren't mistaken.

"Hi hiya hello everyone! I'm Sphinx! My specialty is bringing smiles to the faces of the downtrodden and also close range high-impact assaults. I'm good at tracking, chasing and hunting down a single target as well as performing rescue missions. If anyone has any questions ask away, I love riddles! Did you know a squirrel would need to fall about 4800 miles in order to die because that would give it time to starve to death because otherwise they can just survive terminal velocity?”

As Khepri munched on the pain au chocolat and the taste changed their chewing slowed. With brows furrowing in concentration they looked back and forth between everyone else partaking of the pastries before their eyes widened in realization.

"Wait a minute, this isn't what baked goods made with spoiled ingredients taste like!"

Khepri would know. They blinked in surprise at Momo's comment. Wasn't Gordon Ramsey still alive? Khepri had never seen him appear dead in their recordings of his cooking shows. Now they were no longer sure. Hearing the continued discussion of the group behind them they were at least a little more sure of the validity of this new greeting they've learned though, so that was something.

"I have drinks in the cooler if anyone wants one, it's in the direction of that plume of black smoke over there."

With their rocket boots rocketing them forward Khepri hit the door like a battering ram trapping the innocent gun barrel in between the crack. Ducking below the flashes of gunfire still coming out of it while they opened the door once more they briefly struggled with the mechanical contraption atop which the gun was mounted, bullets flying in all directions as they did.  

Stepping past the gun that was now firing diagonally into the ground and sending ricocheting bullets all over the place Khepri entered into the building. It was most definitely a building. Four walls, a door, several windows one couldn't see through. Yup, a building for sure. On the outside at least, for the inside was almost completely empty. No furniture other than a single chair in the corner, no stairs leading to the empty space where more floors should have been and no occupants other than one guy atop said chair eating a sandwich.

"Uh, you're not supposed to be back here..."

"There was a door over there," Khepri replied while pointing back where they came from, a movement in the corner of their eye drawing their attention. "Mafdet-bot! You made it! Go scout ahead and call me if you find anything. Oh and thin the competition while you're add it!" They added innocently as an afterthought.

Opening their inventory they pressed the button that had the six pack of soda and tore open the packaging. Taking out one of the cans they looked over to the uncertain maintenance worker.

"Do you want one too?"

"S-sure..."

Throwing a can over and grabbing for themself Khepri would make sure everyone in the room was offered a can before they cracked one open for themself, humming along offtune to the dwindling sound of gunfire as they drank.

TL;DR:

-Khepri makes it through the door, sending bullets flying every which way as they force themselves through the opening occupied by the machine holding the gun in place.
-Orders the Robo-cat to scout ahead and thin the competition (in a friendly, healthy competitive way of course)
-Opens the Six pack of soda and gives a can to the NPC before taking one for themself and offering one to each of the other people that may or may not have made it into the same building.
