Khepri grinned right back. Those were a lot of words he was using to try and convince and discourage them. Especially coming from a guy that had just finished punching himself in the face. Returning to the fray within seconds of being tossed into the treeline the catbug smiled happily. "I'm fine!" Reaching into their shirt they rummaged for a second, a shape within shifting before they managed to clasp it in their hand and pull it out. "My frying pan took the hit!""Yes! Also yes! Not in that order though!" Khepri shouted back at Wendy's question. There was no way they'd make it in time to stop the tree from hitting her but seeing Wendy swell Khepri had full confidence that she'd be fine. Airbags were meant to handle impacts. That left them with some time to figure out what to do about the demon that- Hold on, had it doubled in size again? "Stop getting hit!" Khepri shouted at Surtr before an idea occurred to them. "Jack Orion! Get the shimenawa! I need to check if the shrine has a basement!"As fast as they could Khepri sped up, trying to get inside of the abandoned building and find a way down. It was a long shot but if their theory was correct they might just get out of here alive.
TL;DR: -Khepri returns mostly unharmed -Replies to Wendy telling her to catch and run -Shouts at Surtr to stop getting hit -Shouts at Jack to get the shimenawa -Goes to check if the shrine has a basement: Tags: Wendy, Jack Orion, Fanthes

"Okay, here, in case I forget!" Khepri responded while taking a can of Coral Cola out of the fanny pack strapped to their side. They promptly threw it over to Michael, the pop popping another balloon on the way there. Wait a minute. That hadn't been Michael! "Sorry, here, take this one!" The second can was thrown correctly. This time Khepri had made sure to check for legs and a torso before throwing it over. Feeling just the slightest bit awkward due to their mistake Khepri marched over to the can that had hit the ground, popping two more balloons on the way over. Both of them had been red too. Probably. If they weren't mistaken that put their total back up to four. Four was a great number. For Khepri it was an entire handful, enough for one point on each finger. Now they just had to get four more for their other hand. After that holding on to them might become difficult again. Why, last time they tried to go above that they accidentally lost them all! "Michael! What do you usually do to go above your limits?"They were pretty far away from the other student by now and had no idea whether they were shouting in the right direction but with some luck he'd heard them.

The sun hung high in the sky, shining down on tranquil blue waves with not a boat in sight. Standing on the beach with their hands on their hips Khepri turned to Jouma with a bright smile on their face. "Where are we?"

"I don’t know if my quirk is being stealthy, I always notice it." There were only four days where they didn't and they didn't really remember those days. They could if they wanted to but whenever they did they somehow got sidetr- Oh, Yoko asked another question. "I'll look it up later," Khepri helpfully replied just before they noticed Luna. Once they'd helped her up they tilted her head in thought "Is it rude?" Khepri asked both Luna and Yoko with a tilt of their head. They’d never heard falling off the roof in front of people be called rude. They’d need to make sure to note that down. They’d been in Japan for almost a year now and still they were consistently surprised by the specifics of its social conventions. Well, the metaphorical ones. They still hadn’t seen the physical social convention so they couldn't be surprised by that one yet. Every time they thought they found it the convention was about anime instead. Following Luna's finger Khepri nodded in agreement. They fully understood the benefits of napping on the roof. It had sun much longer than the ground and you could get much better coverage since it was at an angle. "Are those the only options?" Khepri asked Yoko after she’d introduced them. That would be bad. They’d met many people that were smarter than them, they had to tell Sadako immediately! A sharp intake of breath followed. Oh no, Sadako! Noticing that Yoko was staring at them Khepri met her gaze. "No, I'm still the same person. I am wearing different clothes though." Now that it was the weekend they’d decided not to wear their UAU school uniform. Having looked up what was best to wear for something like this they’d settled on an outfit comprised of a red shirt with a fun pattern and black shorts. "What's your favorite snack?" Khepri asked Luna the moment there was a lull in the conversation. Waiting for a reply they followed it up with a happy nod. "Great, let's go!"

"It's Khepri Mafdet Khepri," Khepri corrected. "Wait no." That wasn't exactly right unless they misunderstood Japanese naming conventions here. Oh! Maybe Wendy was just trying to be accommodating. In Egypt the family name came after the first name after all. That was probably what they meant! "It's nice to meet you too!"Khepri listened attentively to Enma's explanation. They had no idea that all the stuff that could be adjusted did those things. That made a lot more sense than the machine firing at whichever speed it felt like. Khepri had only met a few machines that could do that and they usually didn't just sit around in the training grounds pitching baseballs. Who knew though. Maybe this one was just following its dreams. Khepri was doing the same thing. Well, almost the same thing. They were following the ball that Enma had just launched into the distance. That sort of counted. Their eyes had followed the ball until it reached its apex while their ears listened to Enma's introduction before they rushed after the ball. Long strides followed by a fully quirk empowered jump carried them to their goal, arm coming up and managing to catch it in mid air. "I got it!" They shouted back at the small figures in the distance before rushing back. As they returned to the rest of the group they continued the conversation. "Nice to meet you too, Enma! Do you think there are more doors or wheels in the world?"Putting the ball down next to the machine they were ready to go after Wendy's ball this time. With a bat thrown into the mix this was a completely different baseball experience than they were used to but Khepri was nothing if not adaptable. Between the first strike, all the running and honing in on the ball their senses were running in full, ready to track the ball from the moment it left the machine. They could see from the moment it fired that it was going to go wrong. Almost in slow motion Khepri began to drop into a crouch, their exoskeleton softening and muscles expanding to rocket towards Wendy. Too slow. Too little, too late. Even as they acted they could tell they wouldn't be able to outspeed the ball and get there in time. As they shot off and their arm extended forward they saw the ball impact Wendy's face with full force. For a moment their heart stopped, two stumbled steps taking them past Enma and Wendy. It took a second for their mind to catch up to what their eyes had seen. Wendy hadn't dropped completely. They were still partially upright. Khepri's chest heaved as they softened the exoskeleton on their torso to suck in several deep breaths. Catching their breath they turned back to face the pair. "Are you alright?"

"Yes," Khepri replied with full confidence. A tour was something where you visited different places after all and this absolutely was a different place. Khepri had no idea where it even was! "I think so," they added in response to both of Wendy’s next questions. Strangers were just friends you hadn’t met yet after all and this guy sure was strange. "The present!" They managed to answer just before dropping into a crouch and firing away. There was no better time for it than that after all. Once their leg made contact with the tree they nodded to themself. Wendy had managed to catch the sidekick. They hadn't expected any less. Ever since this morning Khepri had been reading the eBook 'European Weapons & Warfare, 1618 - 1648' and they'd only stopped when they looked up from their phone just now. The knowledge on siege equipment and ballistics they'd learned from it and internet searches whenever they needed elaboration on something was still fresh in their mind. There were no way they'd misjudged that throw. "I got moving now!" They shouted back to the other student they recalled from Stellar's class, the guy that was never joking and that had just sent their opponent into the treeline. Khepri's eyes widened in realization when Surtr reappeared. The saying was true! The harder they fall the bigger they are. That was the plan then. They had to stop him from falling down. As a prospective rescue hero that was a job right up Khepri's alley! A gasp escaped them when Surtr punched himself in the face. Down was relative. When on Earth it was relative to the center of the planet, when in space it was relative to the nearest source of gravity or entirely nonexistent, left solely up to one's own perception. The problem was that everyone was always in space so down was just a matter of perspective. That had to be what Surtr was making use of. His quirk made him grow whenever he went down so if he made his own vision swim it'd change his perception to the point that he could be upside down several times without moving! They had to stop him, fast. "Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself!" Khepri shouted at Surtr before their eyes widened once more. "Wait no, not like that!"
They couldn't get anything else out before having to react to the incoming barrage. Khepri had been training for this. Well, situations like this. They hadn't been training for a situation where a five foot guy suddenly grew to ten feet, elongated his arms and sent out a barrage of attacks. That was number 214 on their contingency list and they were only on training to deal with situation 73. But they digressed. They'd been training to counter precise strikes and they intended to put that training to use. The first punch they managed to parry with their right arm, Surtr's fist grinding against their exoskeleton as they redirected its momentum, sending it into the tree next to them. Khepri gulped when they heard the sound of shattering wood and the crater left behind. The time the first parry bought let Khepri swell the muscles in their left arm and counter his second punch with one of their own. Their strength wasn't quite enough to counter all of it but most of the force was lost, only pushing the catbug back two steps. Oh bother. They needed the legs that had just taken those two steps to counter his next blow. A sharp crack so intense it sounded almost like metal shattering rang out as Khepri was punched right in the chest and sent flying, disappearing into the treeline not unlike Surtr had not too long ago.
TL;DR: -Khepri talks shit. -Khepri gets hit. -3v1 is (temporarily) promoted to 2v1, gl hf Tags: Wendy, Jack Orion, Fanthes

"When the air went through my vocal cords they vibrated and I shaped that into speech," Khepri answered what they assumed was the question. As they walked along they nodded their head in confirmation. Unless they'd misremembered those were the two days. "Yeah, I'm Khepri."
To them that explanation made complete sense. In Egyptian mythology Khepri represented the rising and moving of the morning sun. The deity that brought it back to the waking world once it finished its nightly trip through the underworld. "I don't think you would," they disagreed. There was no way Yoko would go crazy from something like that. Khepri would know. "Huh, blanket?" Was Yoko seeing things after all? All of a sudden Khepri wasn't. "Is it the natural state of the universe already?"
That didn't make any sense. Unless their phone was wrong that should be hours from now! Only when Yoko managed to grab the blanket fully did Khepri realize their mistake. They joined in on inspecting it just long enough for them to fail to notice the figure until she was falling. Following Yoko's finger their eyes widened. They froze. Their pupils shook as they watched the blonde girl fall in slow motion. It didn't take any fancy calculations to see they wouldn't make it in time to catch her. They'd noticed too late. Khepri stood frozen in place as she tumbled to the ground and laid motionless. Maybe they were the one that was just seeing things? Something like this right in the middle of campus, that didn't happen. Right? "G-got it!" They shouted back just a bit too loudly before snapping into action. Quite literally leaping into the fray they skidded the last half a meter to slide to a stop next to the... cloud? Wait, was it mist when it was on the ground? Maybe fog? Extending their arm Khepri would try to put a hand on Luna's shoulder if she'd allow it and attempt to help her up, acting more on Yoko's orders than with any amount of thought put into her actions. With just as much thinking involved Khepri's mouth moved too. "How's your forehead?"

Hearing their phone vibrate Khepri pulled it out of their pocket and read Yoko's text. "I'm here too," they responded from just behind Yoko. It hadn't occurred to them to say anything sooner, they'd been far too busy dodging the door when it opened and contemplating Yoko's first question. They temporarily put that aside though when a second was asked. "No, I think it'll just be on Saturday and Sunday again."It was very rare that there were different plans for the weekend. Occasionally there was a 'long weekend' that included Friday as well but Khepri had yet to figure out how that worked. Once upon a time they thought they knew and had attached stilts to their shoes to be Long Khepri but apparently they'd gotten some of the semantics wrong. That happened sometimes. They still weren't entirely certain about the answer to Yoko's first question either. It had something to do with nuclear fusion and the planet's atmosphere but they were missing some pieces in their train of thought so the engine had left some crucial train cars behind. "It’s weird to think that nighttime is the natural state of the universe and daytime is only caused by a nearby radiating ball of fire, right?"

Worried? That was odd. Khepri had always been smiling so no one would be worried just as they’d been taught. Had they been doing it wrong somehow? Perhaps Japanese people smiled in a slightly different way that Khepri hadn’t quite caught on to yet. They’d have to look up smiling compilations later. "Okay," Khepri answered eagerly. They loved questions. They were like riddles but with no one correct answer. That made them both a lot easier and a lot harder but with enough persistence Khepri usually managed to find the answer the questioner was looking for. "Oh, not much," Khepri replied both honestly and in the correct way they’d heard others answer that question before, "what about you?" They asked back out of politeness. That was the right thing to do after all. "In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever felt as little as I have recently!" A happy nod of confirmation followed their statement. It was only the first question so they may yet be taken for a loop but for this one they were more ready to answer than ever. This was going great!

"I haven't seen any unicorns except on TV, weird right?" Khepri asked Enma in the same tone one would use to complain about the weather. It truly didn't make any sense to them. Hoofs and horns were both made of keratin so why was it so unreasonable that a being with four hooves had one horn? Giraffes made much less sense than that. "Hmm, oh sure," Khepri replied to Wendy while blinking twice in confusion and reaching into their pocket. Pulling out a rumpled ball of paper they handed their notes over to them. What a weird thing to ask. Luckily her next questions were far more understandable and Khepri quickly nodded in reply. "Yeah. I've seen one in Taito and another in Hino. It's called a Giraffe." Happily nodding along in agreement with Wendy the catbug too was happy to hear Enma's offer. "I'll help too! I can catch the ball if you miss," they explained before promptly moving to stand next to the pitching machine instead of behind the batter. "I'm Khepri. Mafdet Khepri. Oh, Mafdet isn't only my name though," Khepri clarified just in case. Identity theft was no joke after all.

"You did it!" Khepri happily cheered with a smile so bright it practically glowed. They wondered what it'd be like to fly. Not with a private jet but by your own strengths. What heights a feeling like that could take you. Almost losing herself in calculating gravity, wind resistance and human limitations the catbug's attention was quickly redirected by Stellar's words and actions. Their pupils dilated upon seeing all the strings hanging in mid-air. "Okay," Khepri heard herself say from miles away, their focus wholly on the task ahead. The tendrils swayed, lifelessly yet with purpose. They did not think nor did instinct guide their motions yet through Stellar's will they stayed just out of Khepri's reach as they swung once, twice and then thrice to no effect. That skill. That was what Khepri was aiming for. Clumsy at first their motions slowly began to flow into each other, the concentration required to tense their muscles in the right rhythm and soften parts of their exoskeleton while hardening other parts to guide the motions leaving them with little capacity to do anything else. Yet one fact remained true. Repetition was the mother of all learning. Every strike was just a bit faster and more accurate than the last. At first it was just their left arm doing the work but after a while Khepri began to alternate. Left, left, left, left, right. Left, left, left, right. Left, left, right. Left, right, left, right. Their left arm hung limp once more before long so they switched to their right exclusively, getting close but not quite managing to catch any of the tendrils before that one too gave out. Bile rose in Khepri's throat, the feeling of their limp, swaying arms causing nausea and a shortness of breath. Only the still swaying tendrils kept them focused but without anything to hit them with… Khepri’s eyes widened in realization. They had legs! Standing on one of them they brought the other up in front of them not unlike a crane stance, except without the arms extended to the side for balance due to obvious reasons. Khepri’s brow furrowed in concentration as they prepared to strike once more. They may not be able to master this technique today but they’d try their hardest anyway.

"Oh, I already have that amount of points," Khepri explained with a bright smile. In fact the little late addition to the numerical symbols chart was exactly how many points they had after the last green balloon they popped. Hmm, that wasn't a good thing was it? This wasn't an event where a low score was the goal like golf. "I need a different number. Sorry I can't take you out now Michael. Oh! I can treat you to a drink after the Bonanza though, I love making new friends!" Just as they finished their sentence they lost track of the conversation, pupils dilating as they spotted another balloon floating sideways due to a missed swipe from another classmate. Almost running into Michael in their rush to get around him they sprinted for it and made their own far more successful attempt putting their score up to a solid 1. Khepri had often heard that was the best number to be at. Blinking twice they turned to look over their shoulder. "What kinds of drinks do you like?"

One's purpose and that which they were designed for needn't be the same. The freedom of choice ingrained in the instincts of any sentient being allowed them to carve their own path and so too did it allow them to alter the fates of others. Sometimes Khepri liked to free the pitching machine from its routine by spinning it around and letting it fire at random before they tried to race the ball instead of letting it meet its inevitable fate of being swatted by a bat. Today it seemed the machine already had a partner by the time Khepri arrived. Two even. Much like how they spotted Enma and then Wendy, as Khepri was about to respond they first had one thought and then a second, the two ricocheting off each other and leaving the catbug unable to find either. Instead a different question came from Khepri's mouth, just in case one question wasn't enough and they needed two. "How are unicorns real but giraffes fake? Isn’t a horse with a horn way more normal than a leopard moose camel with a seven foot neck?"

"Huh?" Khepri said while looking up from their phone and blinking in surprise. 'Who are you?' That was a big question for someone that had at least three branches in their hair at the moment. "What do you mean your people?" The catbug managed to fire back just before the bugman was picked up and thrown their way. Immediately Khepri's pupils dilated, the mix of a fast-moving target and someone in harm's way triggering their instincts and turning their dial from 0 to 100 in an instant. Using their quirk to expand the muscles in their legs as they instantly dropped to a crouch they shot off like an arrow. They'd aimed so they'd fly right next to the sidekick in question instead of crashing straight into him. With an arm extended to the side they'd arrest his momentum causing both of them to spin should they succeed in their endeavor. Mid-spin Khepri would glance back at their friend. "Wendy, catch!" They'd shout right before letting go so the sidekick would fly at them. They had full faith Wendy would be able to safely catch him after all. The rest of their momentum should carry the catbug to the side of a tree from which they'd be able to kick off again and get right back into the fray. Of course, that was only if they succeeded. If they missed, well, perhaps they could get a swipe off at Surtr before crashing into the abandoned shrine.

Seeing Michael launch into another coughing fit Khepri immediately showed concern for their friend. "Here, take this one," they said while offering their own drink. Oh! Michael seemed like the kind of person that would be concerned about Khepri not having a drink if they gave their own away so they should explain. "I ordered a non-alcoholic drink, don't worry." They could just go get it from the bartender if Michael took them up on their offer. Their eyes scanned the area until finally they made eye contact with the bartender on the other side of the yacht. The man had an exasperated expression on his face as he shouted at the catbug. "It's a costume! I'm not a bartender!""Oh, that's a really good costume!""Thank you?!"Emphasizing their heartfelt compliment with a wide smile they turned back to Yoko to address the matter at hand. "I didn't order a drink after all. Can we grab more on the way to the karaoke?"
