"I do!" Khepri said when Stellar reached them, extending both of their hands for a double handshake in Yoko’s stead. Khepri had always been told you could tell a lot about a person by their handshake. Whether they were shy, cowardly, distrustful, mean-spirited or honestly working for their daily bread. Khepri always made sure to put their all into it to be seen as the latter, it was true after all. Back in Egypt the word for bread also meant life and as a rescue hero Khepri very much wanted to work for daily life. It was never good when there was a day where that wasn’t present. Listening attentively to Stellar's words Khepri did their best to nod along when appropriate even though the interesting design of the room was incredibly distracting. They wondered if this was what the room most other students had been in during the games a few months back were like. Khepri themself had been in an arena that didn't make use of it so they didn't know. Oh, right! Focusing. This time on Farrin. A glint in the air caught the catbug's attention immediately. They could see it. The turn of the coin. The metal spinning at a speed far different than it was used to. They could see it. Falling through space. Heading towards its final destination with a finality that- Khepri blinked several times as it dropped onto Farrin's palm for the last time. They'd been in such a daze they missed his entire explanation. It was too late to change that now so all they could do was look back into their memory and remember. They'd have to do that later though, the lesson wasn't learned yet. Making sure their attention didn't stray as the next student talked Khepri listened while only half-thinking about the roman additions to the calendar throwing the original form and function out of order. Seeing Yoko glance their way Khepri's attention was momentarily fully turned away just in time to hear Yoko mutter. Their eyes shook at her words, their head turning so fast it was a wonder they didn't get whiplash. The blonde girl saw another Khepri? Their chest felt tight. Where? No. Khepri was probably just misunderstanding. There were no murderous dopplegangers here or anywhere else anymore. Khepri swallowed to stop their throat from being dry. They had to be in top shape for this class after all! "I’m not allowed to give tips anymore, not since the sushi boat incident that wasn’t my fault," Khepri replied to May's instruction with the kind of sincerity that stemmed from truly believing in what one said. Then they turned their attention to Yoko's explanation. There was a saying that said the third time's the charm and it seemed to have some truth to it as Khepri was able to follow along far better this time. That was something. So long as they didn't pay attention to what they themselves were saying it meant they could listen properly to at least one more student's words! Smiling at Yoko when she walked back Khepri stepped forward to do their part while deep in thought. There wasn’t an experience in particular that motivated them. Nothing had happened that made them want to be faster and more precise. Nothing. There’d been no right place they’d only gotten to at the wrong time. Their fingers shook briefly before they managed to refocus their train of thought. Super moves. Right. They had to be able to move super. "Hi hiya hello everyone! My name is Mafdet Khepri. I'm from Egypt and have only been in Japan for about a year. My favorite thing about this country is the alphabet because the one made in Egypt is terrifying. A bee sea? No thank you!" Khepri cheerily rambled on before getting to the point. "My quirk gives me a partial exoskeleton and lets me soften it to further expand my muscles. Like this," they continued while raising their arm in front of them. Clenching their fist both forearm and upper arm alike bulged unnaturally far, as if they were a bodybuilder on steroids. They held it for a moment before they relaxed and let their exoskeleton harden again. "I like to enjoy every moment to the fullest so I think that's what I want my Super Move to be. Something that lets me be fast and precise so I can be on time and life doesn't slip out of my grasp! The amount of people older than us will never increase after all. Every bit of life lost is one that won't come back."Finishing their explanation with an even wider smile than before they looked at each student in turn and gave a thumbs up to Stellar before returning to their spot next to Yoko. "I'm back! You said no questions about the cloud specifically so does that mean you're taking other questions? Do you think that when Schrodinger was buried people were curious about the inside of his coffin?"

So cold.Yoko was much colder. Khepri didn't get it. They'd gotten here faster, they weren't hindered, they had their divine features, why was she- With a blink Khepri finally caught on to what Yoko was saying. "Q-quirk?" They stuttered, wondering why their mouth liked the letter Q enough to repeat it twice in a word that only needed one. Was it because question started with a Q as well and those were what was inside of every riddle? Their breath hitched for a second. Couldn't be it, what was inside should stay inside, not spill out. Unless it was a juicebox or a thermos that kept drinks warm. Oh! The hoodie! Khepri trusted Yoko's words of course given that she had the same expression her aunt had when she said she was happy to see them and that it'd been too long but even if it didn't hurt being cold wasn't comfortable. Trying to stand up to actually get the hoodie proved difficult however. Their legs felt like jelly. Khepri was still wondering when they'd accidentally used their quirk and how they were maintaining it this strongly without any effort when they were shaken out of it by Yoko's next question. "Okay," the catbug replied absent-mindedly, utterly distracted by the sensation on the back of their hand. Was Yoko trying to subtly check whether they really only had eight fingers in total? "Oh. I have a partial exoskeleton," Khepri explained in kind. "If I move wrong I bruise the area where it connects to the endoskeleton unless I soften it."Khepri didn't know why they were sharing this. Her sparring partner had only shared why they were cold now, not asked to exchange secrets. They didn't need to explain that the meeting of the exoskeleton parts with the endoskeleton's external soft parts led to abrasion or friction burns. Right, friction burns! Contact between two things leads to warm, especially if it also kept out the cold. They couldn't get up and grab the hoodie so they'd have to do the job themself. "Like this," Khepri explained as they wrapped their arms around Yoko, both continuing their thoughts and their earlier words. With a bit of focus they softened all the outer parts of the exoskeleton making contact with Yoko enough that they almost felt like a normal person's arms or ribcage. Almost. It did take some focus to maintain though and as the seconds stretched on Khepri was beginning to slip up, their body not quite up to the task just like back whe- "Should we go to the infirmary?"

Bending their elbow just a bit more so they could push themself upright Khepri took in the world behind them, shown upside down due to the way they were positioned right now. How strange, they could usually handle performing all kinds of stunts but just leaning back like this was making them nauseous right now. Pushing themself upright with a lurch their eyes widened when the sound of something metallic clanking to the ground reached their ears mid motion. They tensed, a sense of vertigo almost overpowering them as their eyes flicked to the object in question. Just a drink casing. The following familiar thud was far less soothing, their pupils dilating as the blonde collapsed in front of them the moment Khepri's view had been changed and they'd been unable to act. Before they thought of what they were doing the catbug reached out towards Yoko. Feeling how cold she was Khepri felt their predatory instincts go off as they began to shake -in excitement of course-, the sight of an injured prey animal causing her to salivate from her eyes. "No," they muttered. That wasn't right, counting one's eggs before they hatched was a foolish move. Blinking their blurry vision away they could feel their jaw move, already practicing tearing prey to shreds. "No..." They said once more through clacking teeth. That wasn't right either. Instincts were valuable but ripping and tearing during a training exercise was wrong, even they knew that. Only real animals rejoiced at the sight of blood spurting out of a wou- "No, no, no..." Khepri landed on their rear as their legs gave out under them, lowering their center of gravity to better ambush their target. Huh? Weren't they already right in front of them? That wasn't necessary right now. They were getting much too focused on the hunt! "Not again..."

"Carrying the cans," Khepri replied with a slight tilt of their head. Lifting the soda to their mouth they tried their best to gulp down the bubbles before they could spill all over their outfit. At Yoko's next question Khepri paused for a second, thinking back to what they'd read before launching into an explanation. "Carbonated water, sucrose, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors and caffeine," they rambled out before taking a second to catch their breath. "Oh, I think it's pronounced the fuzz." Khepri themself wasn't all too fond of them either. They always got in the catbug's way and kept lecturing them about things like 'acceptable amounts of force', 'property damage' and 'admissible in Cardiff law', whatever that meant. "No, I have several though," Khepri absent-mindedly explained. The vast majority depended on specific circumstances and were impossible to perform in a wide variety of situations like gravity turning sideways, senses being inverted or large-scale mysterious phenomena. They supposed Yoko meant in more general terms however. Khepri was just about to explain when her opponent shouted. "Okay," they replied as the blonde's fist came for their head. A different face overlaid with her for a moment, one coloring red instead of blue. Then Khepri blinked and it was gone. As the first approached they had no idea what it was but then it hit them. With a loud thud their head swung sideways and they began to topple backwards. "A counterattack is an attack made in response to one performed by an opponent," Khepri answered on the way down. Catching themself with one hand and a tail their leg lashed out towards Yoko's side while her other hand kept their can as stable as she could.

Khepri was stunned by the revelation. Ylva was right. By caring about such a grand question they were forgetting about the here and now, about all the good they could do by taking things one step at a time until they were ready to truly tackle such grand problems. Their senior was kind indeed. They'd have spent days pondering this on their own if not for her profound statement. "Almost. And here we go!" Khepri exclaimed with a smile so warm it was amazing the freezer managed to compensate for it. "It's on the house. Well, on me," they explained with an even wider smile. "I've never treated a friend to a milkshake before, this'll be my first time doing so!"Their tail wagged behind them, almost knocking over a stack of cups as they turned to fetch a straw they hadn't forgotten about, just delayed in handing over. "Have a nice day, enjoy yourself and if you have the time don't forget to say hi to a stranger. A small act of kindness can go a long way," Khepri rambled in the tone that any cashier would have recognized as the standard overly friendly voice used for sentences hammered into rote memorization by corporate demands. Which wasn't to say Khepri disagreed with the words of course. They really did hope Ylva would have as nice of a day as they'd been having. Why, their shift had only just begun and already they'd met a friend! Truly, life was be looking up for Khepri.

"No, I've never heard the food say anything that insulting," Khepri replied. Especially not on the inside. Perhaps there was a difference in experience. Khepri wasn't entirely sure what other people's physiology was like but their own mutation made it so that they didn't have ears on the inside. No matter what the food said once eaten their stomach wouldn't be able to be hurt by it. Khepri filed the thought of that away for later. There were a whole lot of implications to Ryusei's and Yoko's words that they didn't have the time to think about right now. They answered Yoko's question on whether they're from Egypt with a nod and waited for both her and Ryusei to finish speaking entirely before they continued. "That's how I ended up here too." They were perfectly fine doing things without a license back home before their family had told them to go study at UAU to go get one, warning them of the dangers of a villain duo called Potential Ramifications and Serious Consequences who were apparently really dangerous to people without a license. Khepri didn't quite get why that was the case but there were a lot of strange quirks out there that they hadn't figured out yet so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Following along with the conversation and nodding where appropriate Khepri's mind wandered once more. They really needed to look into mythology sometime. People kept asking them which hell they were talking about but they don't know nearly enough about them to know what about the things they said reminded people of a hell nor which one. Khepri was briefly shaken out of their introspection by Ryusei's question before falling deep into thought once more while maintaining eye contact with him, not entirely sure how to answer it. It had to be a riddle. Usually the catbug loved those but the feeling was missing right now, likely out looking for their apetite. Casting a quick glance at the food Khepri realized neither had returned yet. After several seconds of thinking they finally opened their mouth. "I don't know about the contents," the catbug answered with a tilt of their head. "Do we need to know about those to figure out whether they could stop getting the same result every time?"

"Flavors," Khepri said with a slight tilt to their head. Was it not obvious that flavors had been the topic? Ah well, they supposed it didn't matter. There were much more important things to do. Things like solving this riddle. Khepri eagerly awaited her reply. Their ears drooped the moment they heard it. "Oh, your name is Ylva?" They answered sadly before shaking their head to put the thought aside. It was disappointing to have the riddle solved that easily but they supposed not every riddle could be exciting. Otherwise what would make the good ones good? Hmm, that reminded them of another train of thought they'd been having recently. For something to be good was it necessary for something else to be bad? If what was good was what was above the norm and what was bad was what was below the norm did that mean that if the bar was raised what was considered good before would now be bad? Were heroes by trying to make society better actually making people evil? As they finished putting the shake together and opened a new pack of lids so they could get the blending machine get to work Khepri turned back to Ylva. "Hey do you think those who act the most righteous are actually making people evil?"

"No, this is Khepri," they happily replied. It was nice to see their kind senior here. Khepri hoped she was enjoying herself as much as they were. "The Hokkaido Premium? Would you like extra caramel, senior?" They asked while starting to put the shake together. Before getting this job they hadn't even known it was possible to milk prefectures but apparently this shake was specially made with Hokkaido milk. There was so much left she had to learn, sometimes Khepri just wished they could take in everything they saw with but a glance. They'd be unstoppable. "Water's flavor is just its temperature. Milkshakes are different, don't you think?" Khepri cheerfully asked her kind senior whose name they definitely remembered. Hmm, what had she replied back then? Khepri's smile widened. A riddle! They loved finding the answers to those. "What name should I write on the cup?" The catbug innocently asked, almost two decades of practice ensuring none of their ignorance shone through in their tone.

With the help of their kind seniors and teachers Khepri had finally managed to master the art of making ice cream! Not only did it allow them to secure a steady supply of sweet dishes best served cold so long as they had a few cheap ingredients on hand it had also allowed them to get a nice part time job at the Unity Festival working the milkshake stand. After all, contrary to popular -and Khepri's original- belief milkshakes weren't made with milk and shake. They were made with milk, ice cream and a variety of flavorings or sweeteners! All things that Khepri now had plenty of experience with, something they'd explained in incredible detail to the interviewer until he interrupted them by telling them they had the job. Handing over the latest milkshake they'd made they happily turned to face the next costumer. "Welcome! Oh, senior, it's you! What would you like?"

Shout something weird? Khepri blinked. What was considered weird was different to each and every person. They wondered what Yoko would find weird. The universe's inexorable one-way march towards the future? Fish sticks? The feeling of one's senses being inverted as they're helpless to stop tragedy? Bubblegum that tasted like concepts instead of candy? With a shrug and an acknowledging nod Khepri supposed they could just keep shouting stuff until something worked. Realizing they'd sort of zoned out the rest of Yoko's words until she roared her last sentence Khepri considered that question. Realization arrived moments later just before Yoko did. "Oh! I've got a pack of soda," Khepri cheerfully replied while reaching into her bag and pulling one out. The catbug didn't so much as flinch when Yoko's fist drew near, simply assuming that she was very enthusiastic about accepting the drink. "Here you go!" They continued while trying to hand over the can. It was only after they started that motion that they broke eye contact and realized the rest of Yoko had changed color. They froze. That... that wasn't supposed to happen in a spar. The blonde girl wasn't supposed to turn blue; Or be cold to the touch. W-was that Yoko's normal? Khepri would need to take that into consideration when figuring out what was weird. Their heart rate sped up, pupils dilating as it did. Right! They were here for a spar. It only made sense that adrenaline was coursing through their veins. The time wasn't there yet though, they were still talking after all. The instinct went off way too early, not too late this time! Should Yoko stop her attack in time and accept the can Khepri would grab a second can for themself, raising it in front of them after failing to grab it twice. With it solidly in between themself and Yoko they would crack the shaky can open, bubbles spilling over their fingers as they did.
"Aww this is one of the really fizzy ones."

Khepri nodded in understanding. They weren't a names person either. They'd even misunderstood once and used the opposite of someone's name to address them. Bringing the empty spoon to their mouth their teeth hit metal before they realized the rice had fallen off. Huh. It didn't usually do that either. The spoonsmith had said she couldn't make magic spoons so it couldn't have been that, there truly was something different about the food today. Returning their spoon to the bowl they realized they weren't quite as hungry as they thought and refrained from trying again as they refocused on the conversation. "Agreeable?" Khepri asked with a tilt of their head. Come to think of it they hadn't had arguments with any of the food here so they had no idea how agreeable it normally was. It was possible that was the reason why the rice was gone. Maybe the cat icon on the back of the spoon hadn't been close enough to keep the rice there and it left, falling back into the bowl and laying still. Khepri pushed her meal and cutlery alike to the side, wondering why it was drizzling inside. Didn't clouds usually form higher and outdoors? Had this piece of cloud crashed to the ground, stood up and walked elsewhere? Was that how it ended up here? "Because I'm no longer in Egypt," they explained in a way that explained nothing while nodding along with themself. Had they stayed in Egypt they'd likely still be a vigilante around the clock instead of a hero student at day and a vigilante whenever they remembered where they put their secret costume. “Do you think seven plus eight could hit twenty? Like, surely they could do better than fifteen if they tried hard enough. Right?”

Khepri stood tall and proud on top of the giant crab, like Jouma or like a lightning rod atop a skyscraper. A metaphor made more accurate when realization struck the catbug like lightning. The crabs could speak! More importantly, they were willing to answer. Attentively listening to the crustaceans it did not take long for Khepri's mind to draw a wrong conclusion. They sucked in a sharp breath. This revelation had to be brought to the attention of people higher up the ladder immediately. Pulling their phone out they pressed the speed-dial button as fast as they could. "This is not a good time, Maf-" "Professor Shirayuki! We've found witnesses who know who's behind all this!" "What?! Sphinx, come agai-" "Their name is Doctor Hail. He or she is the one that gave all the crabs vocal cords!""Hold on. Sphinx, what are you-" Loud screeches and thudding noises interrupted Mai's words, cutting her off for several seconds before she continued speaking, sounding just a little more out of breath than before. "Find a safe location and stay where you are, we'll reinforce you as soon-""Oh no, the witnesses! They're going for the witnesses!" Khepri shouted as they saw a horned eel and a scintillating octopus try to make their way up the boat and towards the crabs. Immediately the catbug dropped the phone and rushed to the rescue. From the discarded phone Mai's voice resounded. "Sphinx? What happened? Sphinx!? Sphiiiiiinx!"

Khepri tilted their head in surprise at their fellow student's question. It was an interesting one. A question with many implications. How long had they been here? What was here? Did it encompass only this table? Did it count the dining hall as well? Perhaps it even counted their stay on the entire planet so far. "Either eighteen years or several minutes," they replied before scooping up part of the contents of a cooling rice bowl with a very fancy engraved spoon. Maybe it was just the temperature but the taste felt muted. When they were addressed by a blonde girl out of nowhere they froze for a moment, fingers clenched around the spoon so tightly their knuckles went white. They replied on autopilot, hearing the reply out of their own mouth before they even processed it. "The direction opposite the nearest source of gravity," Khepri answered monotonously. The question had clearly startled them more than expected. Their heart thudded rapidly, their hair stood on end and it took them several seconds to pry their grip loose of the spoon. "Thank you, I've been training. I'm Khepri. Mafdet Khepri," they introduced themselves woodenly with a far off expression, their mind too focused on other thoughts to pay attention to their eyes. Like how firetrucks were actually watertrucks. Before the silence could stretch on for too long they filled it once more. "Does the menu seem different recently or is it just me?"
