As someone whose hero capabilities were largely dependent on quirk usage, it might seem odd at first that Noa would sign-up for an event where they would be limited if not outright restricted from using quirks. But the girl was always on the lookout for opportunities to make up for her shortcomings and this seemed like a good chance to see how far she could go when given a random set of tools and dropped in an unexpected scenario with nothing but her wits and athleticism to carry her.
She mentally reviewed the gear she was given for this exercise. In summary they were an invisibility suit, a set of traps, and a mobility booster. For convenience sake, she was already wearing the suit. The descriptions were far below the amount of detail she would like for tools she was using for the first time and she as honestly suspicious that they weren't given the whole story. In any other situation, she might have discarded them just for the uncertainty factor. But that wasn't the goal today. People wanted to see these items in action. So as much as she would have preferred a different approach, she would have to tackle today's challenge thinking on the fly.
After hearing the objectives from the announcer, she got the impression that the group was meant to cooperate and work together. Well, that wasn't happening. They were barely even given time to say hello to each other, let alone discuss any meaningful plan. As far as Noa was concerned, it was everyone for themselves. She would at least reply to that one girl who was trying to initiate a conversation.
"Honestly, I'm not too sure what these things do. But I'm about to find out!"
She would exclaim, as she opened her menu and took out five Clap Traps at once. She would then throw them in rapid succession at the five closest 'civilians' attempting to catch her as she made her way towards the direction of the target villain. If these items were safe and reliable, then they should properly trap her unfortunate targets. If they didn't then it was a lot better to find that out sooner than later.
TLDR: Noa throws 5 Clap Traps at 5 civilians going after her while she heads towards the villain

It seemed switching the focus of their session was the right move in terms of helping Noa understand better the principles of this martial art. In the end she was just lacking experience in terms of applying the concepts her teacher was talking about. But the tools were right there and she just had to grasp them. Unfortunately they were nearly out of time, so going more in depth into this training would have to wait.
"In terms of the results I would say I got what I wanted and needed out of learning and practicing meditation. So I certainly don't mind diving back into it again if it will help with this field too."
Somehow from the descriptions Iphi was giving, Noa was imagining those master martial artists from movies who were seemingly relaxed or sleeping but were immediately able to react to movements and danger that attempted to disturb them. Building up her sense of awareness was an advantage she could certainly use even outside of situations where she would be fighting. It would definitely be in her best interest to continue pursuing this field.
"I'm interested in more one on ones for sure. I haven't got it yet but I feel like it's only a matter of time before I figure this out."
Attending this session had been very productive so far. She was looking forward to what would come next.

It didn't escape Noa's notice that the lady that was directing the Tide monster's movements seemed to be temporarily incapacitated by whatever the teacher did. She was unfamiliar with how Fuyuko's abilities worked but Noa saw an opening that she could take advantage of. The villain was already surrounded by water so Noa merely needed to wrest control.
"Whatever you did Sensei, it seems to have worked. Let me try bringing her down to our level."
She saw that the big Tide monster was rushing up to aid the villainess but before it could reach its boss Noa would take action first. Using her water manipulation she would attempt to grab the Tide Empress with the woman's own water and then pull her down to the ground level. Well, it was more like slamming her to the ground since it would be Noa's power plus gravity on her side. If she was successful, then the villainess will be dragged down to the street where she could be more easily apprehended.
TLDR: Noa sees the Tide Empress stunned by Fuyuko's move so she uses the opportunity to drag her down to the ground with her own water manipulation.

The impression she got of Jun was that the upperclassman was someone who was careful, or at least tries her best to be. The warnings about Quirk usage and talking about being mindful of their surroundings made it apparent to Noa. People with a lot of self-awareness were usually easier to get along with because they were the type to try to not get in other people's way. This was basically what she got from this brief interaction and she felt luck that her first interaction with an older student was with someone so agreeable.
Noa realized at some point that she had gotten a bit to engrossed in talking. It was a rare feeling for her as typically she didn't like interacting with people too much. Curiosity was a strange thing and well it could be directed at people too.
"Oh there's no need to apologize. A fresh perspective is always appreciated in my book. I'm actually sorry for taking up your time. You were supposed to be training right? Anything I can do to help to make it up to you?"
She didn't like relying on other people, but having other people rely on her was different. She didn't mind it, especially if it was someone who genuinely needed assistance. If that meant being a training partner for a bit, that was fair.

It wasn't much but she was glad to get some approval on her attempt to recreate the teacher's moves. She would need more practice to perfect it but if she got the movement right then it was only a matter of time and effort to get the mindset right too. Speaking of which, Iphi would respond to her comment about meditation asking if she had some experience with it. This was something Noa could respond to positively.
"Actually I have. There was a time in my life when I had some difficulty getting rested and sleeping and so I was advised to try meditation."
She walked towards where Iphi pointed for her to sit and assumed the same cross-legged position.
"Take deep breaths and try to get a rhythm. And then focus on my senses and sensations my body can feel. Keep it up for 20 or so minutes. That's what I was taught. It did help with getting better sleep and nowadays I don't really need to anymore to get a good night's rest."
How much of that was relevant to Tai Chi meditation, she didn't know. But surely there were some similarities. She patiently waited for the next instruction.

Noa was honestly surprised at how 'coordinated' this makeshift team seemed to be at dealing with the two threats. There was a moment of caution when she heard the villain lady yell instructions at the water giant. They were aiming for her? Or at least it looked like it. But with civilians behind her, Noa couldn't exactly abandon her position. Imagine her surprise when the giant fighting for their side stepped in to block what looked like an attack that was meant to take her out. She would have to thank them later. Tanking that shot couldn't have been a good time. Now she had more room to focus.
The lady villain seemed intent on breaking through the barricade they set up to protect the civilians. Fuyuko wanted her to weaken the enemy's attacks and that was as good a plan as any. She once again attempted to apply her manipulation on the enemy. Having competed directly with their water control earlier, she already got a feel for how strong they were and how Noa was lacking in the ability to fully take over the water they were using. Opposing the control head-on wouldn't be the best option. Instead she would go for redirection. The water blasts were only as dangerous when they hit their marks. Noa would make the blasts veer off course so that they hit the shields at an angle with their force significantly reduced.
"She's stronger than me, but sticking with defense, I can keep her from striking us directly. Hope our friends can take care of the offense."
As she said this, she saw the other boy with water-related abilities launch an attack at the Tide itself. It was definitely getting smaller and weaker. They just needed to keep at it a bit more.
TLDR: Saw King take the shot meant for her and makes a mental note to thank him later. Assists Fuyuko with the civilian defense by applying manipulation to divert the Tide Empress' water blasts from making direct hits at their shields.

Noa's new Tai Chi instructor introduced herself as the hero Recall or Iphi. Personally she still wasn't used to referring to teachers by their hero names at school so she would be using the latter. As for her opinions on Tai Chi itself, well she did decide early on that she would go along with whatever the experts suggested. But Tai Chi was definitely not among the first things to come to mind when she thought of self-defense.
"Pleasure to meet you Iphi-sensei"
She would do her best to imitate the first stance and move demonstrated by the teacher. She had always thought of Tai Chi as a martial art that used slow movements so she didn't feel so awkward when she was taking her time to assume the proper form and strike. Iphi tried to describe the sensations but honestly her words were more confusing than helpful.
She was athletic and flexible enough to emulate what the movement looked on the outside, but whether or not her inner core was going through the motions in the same way was a different story. It was like she personally felt her on actions were not as smooth as the one done in the demonstration.
"To be honest I thought we would start with meditation, since that and Tai Chi always seemed to go hand in hand."

The combined efforts of the people present seemingly stopped the strange water for a moment, but it was too soon for anyone to sigh with relief. Noa had temporarily lost control of her hold when parts of the Tide were frozen since she couldn't manipulate ice. But someone out there actually thawed the ice for her. Although it wasn't exactly the lucky break she was hoping for.
A second enemy had appeared. The heroes noticed this too and proceeded to reorganize their targets. Someone went after the woman while others continued to hinder the strange water that seemingly gained sentience. It was a change Noa could feel but not explain. Unfortunately this meant that its actions were now more deliberate. She had no choice but to forego tugging at the Tide directly because now attacks from both it and the mysterious woman were being aimed at civilian stragglers still present in the area.
If there was one thing she learned at hero school, it was that innocent lives always came first. Fortunately for Noa, there was a lot of water to work with in the area. It felt oddly refreshing to be able to fully control water again without resistance. Keeping a close eye on where the villains were aiming, Noa would raise domes of water acting like shields to protect people from the incoming shots of compressed water.
But now that she was preoccupied with helping civilians, someone else would have to pick up on stopping the water creature's movements.
TLDR: Noa continues to observe enemy movements and new developments. In response to what everyone else is doing, she decides to switch priorities to protecting people being shot with water by raising shields of water of her own.

Noa couldn't believe her eyes. Either the thief was somehow reading her mind, or they were just that lucky at setting things up in a way that made it difficult for her to respond. Well, honestly it was a good thing that the armed woman didn't kidnap anyone to use as a hostage. But having them line up in front of the store meant she couldn't use the store's 'resources' to haphazardly attack with.
Noa paused for a moment to think about her remaining options. It was probably not going to be enough to stop the speeding bike so she would have to narrow down her objectives. The more specific and precise, the better the potential result. The villain was highly likely going to get away regardless since they couldn't afford to spend any more time there. The cops were closing in. So rather than be overly ambitious, she would aim for a smaller target.
Right before she attacked the thief inside the store earlier, she had prepared a little insurance of a bit of water spilled at the sidewalk in front of the store. It was a small puddle so the civilians probably avoided stepping on it directly. A bottle's worth of water wasn't much but it would be enough for what she wanted to do next. As the thief drove away on their bike, she would manipulate the water on the sidewalk to surge forward like a bullet and attempt to cut the bag hanging from the villain's arm. If she was successful, then she could at least prevent the thief from getting away with the things they stole.

Noa had a feeling Jun hadn't been showing everything she could do just yet. The following demonstration of other objects she could conjure with her Quirk was proof of that. It seemed they weren't too different in the sense that they could both respond well to encounters at any range. That put more weight into the other girl's words since even with this power she was still practicing her martial arts to complement it.
"Having a limited source is definitely a pain point with my Quirk as well. Like I try my best to always be ready for anything, but one unexpected event can easily throw off the best preparations."
Jun also raised a good point about collateral damage. Well, perhaps in Jun's case that was a much bigger deal. Water was a bit more versatile in its use in limited spaces so Noa felt less worried about causing unnecessary damage with her Quirk. If she were ever put in a situation where she would need to attack in a large enough scale that she couldn't avoid destroying her surroundings, then the cause was dire enough to warrant it. Frankly, she hoped she would never have to be put in such a predicament.
"Would you happen to be speaking from experience? I think I can consider myself lucky that I've never had to break things around me with my Quirk. Although, I've seen what it could do."
Once upon a time she was curious about testing the utmost limit of her abilities. She of course picked a place to do so that was away from prying eyes and trouble. While she didn't exactly end up scaring herself, she could put herself in the shoes of others around her and how terrible they might perceive her to be.

Noa had gotten used to the sight by now. Every time she walked into the training grounds, there was always at least one or two others on the field exercising or training. Maybe she would have had better luck coming later in the evenings, but she was one of those people who always went to bed early and got eight hours of sleep all the time. Of course the field was huge so it's not like she couldn't find a spot where she could train just fine. But a lot of times she just wanted to avoid distractions.
She took this opportunity to explore a bit. There was a forested area next to the grounds that, as far as she knew, wasn't off limits to students. Maybe there was a nice secluded area there that she could scout as a potential training spot. She patted herself on the back for this idea. Most people training here would prefer wide open spaces. If they wanted obstacles, there were more appropriate venues for those in other areas around the school. A forest though? Definitely not most people's first choice right?
The thought would not last long. No sooner than when she walked past the first few trees when she suddenly heard loud laughter. Someone was here already. She pondered for a moment turning back, but since there were also people where she came from she figured it was better to just press on. A new place was still a new place. Luck was just not on her side today. She reached the clearing where the sound of the laugh came from and found someone who she presumed was the culprit lying on the grass.
She did not recognize who it was but they were probably a student. Seeing them just relaxing like that, it seemed they both came here for different reasons.

Of course it was not going to be easy at all. Immediately she felt the difference in power between her and whatever was manipulating this mass of water. For the first time in her life, the one thing she could always count on to respond to her 'summons' was now resisting with all of its might. It was like trying to raise an arm but the arm insisted on staying down and all she could manage was raise it halfway up. That being said, she was having an effect. If she was just completely and utterly brushed off, she would have taken the biggest hit to her confidence in the last couple of years. Now she had a decently good idea of how much influence she could exert in the situation.
As she was focusing on the task, she was suddenly approached by someone whom she recognized was a teacher from UA. Fortunately, it wasn't because she was in trouble. The request however baffled her for a moment and she almost let go of the 'mental rope' that she was tugging at to try and hold back the tide as best a she could. Talking and keeping up her pull was not the easiest but she needed to make her statement.
"With all due respect Sensei, if I 'let go' of my hold of this strange water right now, who knows how much more damage it can cause. My Quirk is water control and I'm currently holding back some of waves from injuring civilians and destroying property. I don't think I can afford to step away at the moment. It was initially trying to head for the bay but I think I was able to shift it off course for now."
How exactly do you show someone you were exercising a huge amount of mental effort to do something? Honestly it was one of the 'disadvantages' of how her Quirk worked. The dorm mother would have to take her word for it.
In the meantime, it seemed like the other heroes present were finally changing up their efforts to better contain the situation. She wasn't sure how much a truck and a bus can stop water but they would just have to wait and see. She knew now where the tide was trying to go so her efforts would be to continue applying resistance to hinder it.
TLDR: Noa feels the difference in power between her and the Tide but continues to apply her control to keep it from moving freely. Noa explains to Fuyuko that if she stops trying to hold back the Tide, the situation might get worse for them. She figured out where the Tide was trying to go from earlier so she is focusing her effort to stall it or make it go elsewhere while waiting for others to execute their plans to stop it.

Of course Noa wasn't there to hear the declaration inside the convenience store. She was continuing to monitor the villain's movements from the building next door but she didn't get an actual visual until they personally stepped outside. Learning from her earlier mistake, Noa was definitely watching from a very hard to spot angle this time as she didn't want to be shot at.
Unfortunately for the student, the thief was also learning from their mistakes. She almost let out an audible sigh when the gunman stepped out of the store flanked by hostages on all sides like a human barrier. They were being overly cautious as even with just one hostage Noa wouldn't have risked attacking. She was a far cry from a professional hero after all. Speaking of which, where the heck were the heroes and police? It had been a good few minutes now since this incident started. Tokyo's response time was starting to feel very disappointing.
Noa would continue to watch as the villain headed for a motorcycle parked in the alley next to the store. In hindsight, Noa should have also looked around for potential getaway vehicles earlier so this was a big miss on her part. Now she only had one last chance to try and stop this villain from getting away.
A motorcycle was not the best for taking a hostage for a ride, so in Noa's mind the villain would make the getaway by themselves after they safely got to the bike and leave the hostages behind. Getting out of this alley meant driving past the convenience store that, conveniently, had its glass panels shattered by the gunman earlier.
Noa prepared herself. Should the villain drive by alone without any hostages, she would use the full extent of her abilities to pelt the villain with cans and bottles from inside the store to try and take them out that way, bike and all. If on the off chance, the thief decided to carry hostage on the bike with them, then Noa would give up on the notion. She was not going to risk hurting an innocent no matter what.

Jun mentioned that she was self-taught but in Noa's opinion the older girl definitely took some references, maybe from videos or someone else's demonstrations. For what it's worth, Jun's response to being grabbed that way was not too far from textbook responses on self-defense. Masters would definitely disagree, but in Noa's eyes some core concepts were just universal regardless of how you were taught and learned.
She allowed herself to be repelled by Jun's actions and then continued to play along with the other student's explanation and demonstration. When they got to the part where Jun mentioned her being a Quirk specialist, Noa felt that she should clarify what exactly she meant when she said so.
"I agree that putting some distance is definitely advantageous to someone like me if my opponent is someone who fights up close. But I just want to say that rather than long range, I would like to think of myself as all range."
She smiled. It was Noa's turn to give a bit of a demonstration as she took a few steps back. A water bottle that was hooked to her belt suddenly detached itself and was floating in the air about one foot away from the two. Its cover popped off and a stream of water suddenly flowed out up into the air while the empty bottle itself dropped to the ground. The stream of water would do a couple of loops and figure eights above their heads before flying back down to Noa, assuming a sort of spiral formation around her. Noa would continue to talk while all this was happening.
"As you can see part of why I hadn't bothered too much with practical martial arts myself is cause most things my Quirk can deal with even without me physically lifting a finger. Like if I were in a similar position as earlier, most of the time I might not even need to physically try and break out from being held. Cause theoretically I can punish my attacker regardless of the position they put me in."
"But yes it does have its limits and it's not like I can use my Quirk all the time. I think it's great being able to properly do martial arts too."
