Noa could tell that there was some great care being taken in setting up this lesson. The three teachers seemed to have clear roles in who took charge of what, or at least they talked it over well enough before the class started. She had no complaints there and would move as instructed whenever she was addressed to do so. However unlike herself, her fellow students had their own baggage of concerns for participating and would voice them out. In a way it did make Noa question for a moment if she should have given this more thought. The teachers were very receptive to the questions and it almost seemed like they were willing to tailor-fit lessons according to everyone's needs.
She was not the type to pry unnecessarily into other people's business. In her opinion that kind of curiosity only led to stepping on people's toes more often than not. So when the discussion about their quirks and martial arts preferences and choices came up, she only made a mental note of things but didn't add more to it herself. The suggestion of Tai Chi was an interesting one and after seeing the demonstration, it definitely looked like it was worth trying out.
There was a question about what was the most important thing about martial arts. As someone who watched videos on this, it was something talked about a lot in a lot of disciplines and styles. She raised her hand.
"Footwork right? Positioning is important and having a solid stance to apply your strength is key."
She was glad to hear she was correct. All that theoretical knowledge was being put into good use. She would probably score the highest if they did a written pop quiz here.
Anyway soon it was time to finally pair up with their respective trainers. She walked over to the teacher who suggested Tai Chi before realizing she didn't actually get the teacher's name.
"Sorry Sensei, did you introduce yourself before I arrived? I don't think I caught your name and how you preferred to be addressed."
tl;dr: Doesn't show visible interest in her fellow students' personal matters and concerns. Answers Yuki Onna's question. Agrees with the suggested martial arts for Noa. Walks over to Iphigenia so they can start the lesson and asks for her name.

This was why theory was never a substitute for experience. Knock the weapon out of the bad guy's hand before they could use it? It sounded 'simple' yet it was anything but easy. More often than not, their fingers were already on the trigger and would get a stray shot or two out before any proper disarming could happen. And that was exactly what happened.
Glass shattered in front of her before Noa could properly move out of the way but she was able to protect her head and face with her arms thanks to her fast reactions. She had no idea where the bullet went, but this was no longer a quiet incident. The gunshot and breaking glass panel was heard all over the street and people outside were starting to notice. As she was just a student, this was not the kind of attention Noa wanted.
Her first response after recovering from the initial breaking glass was to duck to the side such that there were shelves between her and the thief inside the store. Noa would lose her line of sight, but she had a relatively good idea of the villain's position thanks to her Quirk.
A few more shots rang out but she was much safer at this point. Now she had to make a decision. Follow through or stand down. The crook was probably panicking now as well. The commotion could no longer be ignored by the people outside and several of them were already likely calling for help too.
Time was on Noa's side but after weighing her options, she decided to back away. At this point, she figured the thief must be thinking of how to get away and cut their losses, assuming they weren't some psycho who just wanted to hurt people. The robbery was stopped. Goal accomplished. She would quit while she was ahead. Noa would scramble over to the building next door while still trying to avoid being seen by the villain. It was a bookstore. Surely she won't be followed right?

For someone who tends to do things by herself, this was a rare opportunity for a spar. Well, not exactly but it was pretty close. It was a chance to learn something from a more experienced upperclassman
She wasn't sure about what Jun meant by having a monitor for the nurse's office. At least Noa had no intention to push anyone too much. This was only a demonstration after all. It was a strange thing to say before eventually mentioning that it was no problem at all. Jun knew best what her body can take so Noa would just play along.
"I'd like to think of myself as a Quirk specialist so walking up to someone to hit them is not really something I do on a regular basis. The grapples I know are for self-defense when someone else tries to grab me. I guess I can try at least."
Noa walked over with her arms stretched in front of her and tried to grab Jun by her upper arms. It was a very telegraphed movement without much force put into it so that the older girl can easily demonstrate what she would do in such a situation. To the other student, she probably looked very non-threatening.

It didn't work. Multiple forces collided with the large aquatic construct but rather than be stopped it continued on in a different form. The irony was despite looking less like a 'monster' this new form was much more dangerous to unsuspecting civilians. She had to hurry.
Now what was perilous to ordinary people was not necessarily the same for her. There was something unusual about this water but being water meant she could possibly do something about it. She arrived at the closest point to the surging wave and then focusing real hard, she activated her Quirk on a section of the flood that was about to wash away a few civilians. If this had been ordinary water, then it would be the easiest thing to change the direction of its flow and hold it back. But if this water was being controlled by someone or something else, then she had just initiated a mental tug of war to wrest the control away from them. This would be the first time she would ever go head to head with another water based Quirk so she had no idea how this contest would turn out.
Focused on the task at hand, Noa wasn't really paying much attention to the other players in the vicinity. After seeing how the initial encounter went, she wasn't too optimistic that the heroes present had any effective means to deal with such a foe. The sooner she figured out what kind of enemy they were dealing with, the better she allocate her efforts to keep it contained.
TLDR: Noa approaches from the side of the wave and tries to manipulate as much water as she can with her Quirk and redirect it away from civilians. If the water 'resists' her control, then she will continuously pull back at it to try and gauge the power difference between them.

Noa was very surprised to hear that Jun was self-taught. It wasn't impossible, but what kind of environment did the older girl grow up in that she needed to teach herself how to fight? Furthermore, the girl learned martial arts to deal with situations where she and her Quirk would be at a disadvantage. It was definitely a proactive way of going about it and trying to make up for weaknesses.
"You'll show me? I don't really want to disturb your training. But if it's not a bother then sure I would appreciate seeing a demonstration."
In all honesty, a lot of things Noa knew about fighting were theoretical. Actual experience was a different beast altogether. So when Jun talked about being grabbed as a bad thing, she only partially agreed. While it would not be an ideal situation, it was far from a hopeless one that she could not overcome in her mind. Perhaps a practical lesson will help broaden her view.
"Do you need me to do anything? Like pretend to attack you?"
Noa would wait for further instructions. While she didn't have proper training, she was fairly confident in her athletic skill and movement. She was honing her body too after all, besides her Quirk.

Naturally the target would try to find out what caused the commotion. Noa was watching their every move. It seemed like they didn't realize at first that the student didn't actually enter the store. Noa took this opportunity to snap some quick photos with her phone and sent it to the police too. Even if the thief escaped, at least the authorities would now know their face.
Now Noa wasn't exactly hiding, so the woman with the gun eventually noticed her standing outside. Frankly Noa was half expecting to be shot at on sight. She had her own water bottle prepared but the woman didn't raise the gun at her at all and was instead trying to go outside? Not on her watch.
As the thief walked down the aisle, every water bottle, energy drink, soda can, and the like would start audibly vibrating to catch her attention. And then without further warning, they would launch straight at her like rockets from every direction. Each one was packing the type of punch that would knock an average person out if they got hit in a bad way. A few of the makeshift projectiles were also aimed at the thief's hands in an attempt to deprive her of her weapon.
If Noa was lucky, that would be enough to stop the thief in their tracks before they could reach the door. But the types of villains who would be willing to commit crimes so openly like this were typically confident in their Quirks. This was probably not going to be that easy.
On the plus side, the culprit left the hostages at the counter. That was the only reason Noa was even brave enough to try attacking. If the woman brought a hostage with her, Noa would probably not take the risk of innocent people getting hurt.

Noa had been looking for a chance to upgrade her repertoire of skills ever since she entered UAU. When she saw that there was going to be a special class for martial arts lessons she almost immediately registered for it. The current her was rather ineffective in a fight if for any reason she could not use her Quirk. It wasn't just a matter of her Quirk being disabled. Realistically students weren't typically allowed to use their Quirks outside of emergencies. And there were plenty of conflicts and problems that wouldn't really count as emergencies.
She would be the last to arrive at the training grounds, dressed in the school tracksuit. Two other students were there ahead of her, both off whom she had not interacted with before but she had glimpsed in passing while taking classes. She didn't know their names either, but when you were in the same department you tended to see people attending similar lessons. Three teachers were present too. Now these faces she didn't recognize. Either they taught in different departments or they weren't part of the regular staff. But it was obvious enough to tell they were overseeing this exercise.
It seemed there was no need for introductions as one of the teachers named everyone present. Curiously it would also be mentioned that every student present had recently experienced actual combat. This was probably referring to that big incident in the city not long ago. From what she read about the aftermath of the event, there were multiple attacks in different parts of Tokyo. The other two must have been fighting their own battles elsewhere from her location then.
The third woman present introduced themselves as the guidance counselor and distributed a paper with some simple questions on how they were feeling at the moment. Noa appreciated this. Everyone had gone through a heavy ordeal and mental care was important. Still she wasn't about to let people worry about her needlessly. Without even a second thought she marked with an X to the far right for all the questions. She was feeling great and she was not in the mood to ponder more deeply than that.
When asked if they had any questions, the other two boys raised their concerns. Noa herself didn't have any preferences on what martial arts to learn and felt she should leave it up to the pros. Well, maybe it would be nice to learn moves that worked well with her Quirk, but the teachers here should already know that. This was a rare occasion when she would rely on the expertise of someone else.
"No questions from me Sensei."

It would be a lie for her to say that she wasn't even a little bit jealous. To her untrained eye, Jun looked like a fairly impressive and learned martial arts practitioner. Because she figured that the fastest way to get stronger was to build on her strengths, learning and practicing martial arts was something she didn't really devote much time to. She planned to change that now that she was in UA. But at the moment, Noa's knowledge and experience amounted to nothing but basic self-defense. Like the most basic of basics. If by some reason she couldn't make use of her Quirk to protect herself, her next best option was to run away.
"What martial arts school is that senpai? And how long have you been a practitioner?"
Noa didn't have zero knowledge on fighting styles though and she could probably tell if something was karate, boxing, or some other well known sport. But this one she couldn't quite pin down. Her best guess was that it was a mix. Maybe it was even adjusted to work alongside the upperclassman's Quirk. She has seen some heroes combine Quirks with martial arts.
"I guess I'm a little envious cause I never trained to learn one seriously before."

Perhaps it was thanks to her affinity for water that Noa sensed the anomalies in the rain a moment earlier than everyone else. Before the pressurized rainfall could crush the people in her vicinity, she had created a sort of invisible canopy in a 30 foot radius around her that 'redirected' the rain away from the area she covered. This was simply her Quirk at work, manipulating the rainwater although people who didn't know better might have thought this was also part of the strange phenomenon. Of course she couldn't exactly save everyone, but there were more than a handful who were confused but were otherwise kept dry and unharmed thanks to her being close by.
The weird behavior of the rain was followed by even more unusual movements. Basically all the water that came from that one big cloud above their heads gathered up into a large humanoid shape that then started to head for the bay area. The entire situation was quite bizarre and aside from maybe helping people not get caught up in it, it wasn't entirely clear to Noa what action to take here. Well, she didn't need to think about it too long. It seemed two individuals were already taking the initiative against the water giant.
She decided to follow the commotion, not to fight but look after any civilians who haven't gotten away and might still be in danger. The rain had completely stopped too and she was getting an ominous feeling.

She was in the middle of running an errand when Noa decided to stop by a convenience store to pick up a few things. On a normal day, a health nut like her wouldn't be caught dead with snacks and convenience store food, but she had remembered she was also running low on sports drinks and this was as good a place to buy them as any. She gently pushed open the door which had a chime that would typically alert the cashier that a new customer entered. But before Noa could take one step further inside, she quickly spotted the scene at the counter and turned right around closing the door behind her.
A robbery? At this time of day? She couldn't believe her luck. She immediately pulled out her phone and sent a distress message to alert the police. At the same time with her other free hand, she had taken out one of the water bottles she carried and splashed the contents all over floor outside the entrance to the store. Rescuing hostages was not something she was properly trained for, but maybe she could keep the thief from escaping before the proper authorities arrived.
Well, they already knew she was here cause of the door chime. She was going to have to be careful. As long as the target stayed inside, she had a lot of options. There was no shortage of water and water-based products in a convenience store after all.

So the other girl was an upperclassman. She couldn't help but notice that Jun avoided saying anything about how she was doing and feeling. Maybe she was embarrassed to show weakness to a first year. Not that Noa would have minded. Still being a second year meant the girl ought to know things Noa didn't and it was worth paying attention to her training.
"Do you mind if I watch for bit? I'm a little curious about what a senpai can do. No pressure though."
She would finish her laps and then afterward stop to do some stretching while watching Jun's exercises. Well, going by what little she saw earlier, the two of them probably had very different Quirks. This was likely going to be more for reference than any practical application on her part. Her other reason for wanting to observe was finding a point of comparison on where she stood against upper year students.
She would do her stretches and isometric exercises while Jun did her thing, that way she wouldn't waste her warmup. She had scouted the training area earlier while she was doing her laps and it seems like it had everything she needed. She could spare a moment for learning, especially if the subject was an upperclassman.

She was on her second lap around the field when the other student finally decided to come over and properly say hello. The taller girl introduce herself as Jun. Honestly, the name didn't ring a bell. She wondered they were from a different department. She was fairly new to the school so she didn't recognize many people yet. As far as she could recall, Jun wasn't in the same class as her.
"No harm done. More importantly are you okay? Not in a good condition today maybe?"
She didn't want to assume, but typically people weren't at their best when they made potentially serious mistakes. Well the girl did say she was trying to get back into shape. At first glance, it didn't seem like there was anything wrong with the other student. Was it a mental issue perhaps?
"I'm Noa by the way, 1st year in the Heroes Department. But I just transferred in recently. Nice to meet you Jun."
She put on her most business-like smile. The company wasn't unwelcome. Maybe she could learn something new from Jun too. There was still a lot of things she didn't know. Learning while training would be a productive use of her time. In the meantime, she was nearing her third lap. Just a bit more and she would be done with her warm up.

She was going at a good pace when she noticed the other student made their way to the end of the field opposite her and take up a sprinting stance. Did they not see Noa was there heading that way? It was easy enough to guess what was about to happen. The other student started their breakneck run but Noa was ready for them.
Was this some form of intimidation? While she kept to her course and at the same time the other student looked like they had no intention of avoiding a collision, at least until the last moment when they managed to swerve just enough to avoid the girl. Not that Noa herself felt she was in any danger. She was actually testing herself too in terms of how well she could react. She took a step to the side at the same time that the other person veered off their course. Their reaction times weren't too far apart.
Noa continued her jog without looking back at what happened to the one who ran past her. She just barely made out their words of a quick apology followed by an explanation about racing. In other words, it was nothing to get too worked up about. Motivation was good and it was not her place to criticize someone else's training. It was an honest mistake.
As she rounded the first corner of the field, she doubled the pace of her jog. This would be the speed she would keep it at until the end of her course. In the meantime she got a good view of what else the other student was up to. She didn't really make a habit of paying attention to other people's quirk training. But here in UAU, she might have to get used to doing so.

Prior to entering UAU, Noa had managed to take note of all the times that her old school training grounds would be free and she could practice on her lonesome undisturbed. Now that she was in a new place, it was back to the drawing board. After school hours were always a good bet to check and see if the grounds were empty. Today though seemed to be a bust as when she arrived, someone else was already there hard at work.
Still, it wasn't like there was a whole crowd or anything. This school being as prestigious as it was, she probably would have been more disappointed if she didn't find anyone training at this time. So this was a net positive in her overall opinion of the university. There was more than enough space for two people so no problems there.
She set down her things on one of the benches on the opposite side of the field where the other student was. After doing some stretches, the first activity on her agenda was to warm up with a jog. Four or five laps around the field should do and then she could get started on her own practice.
