She liked to think she didn't have a favorite in her neighborhood but...well Bernie was her favorite. He was one of the first to help her out when she was just a new transplant and didn't know much and had even less than that. From free meals to advice and even helping her establish contacts once she started her business, he was basically a surrogate father to her and she wouldn't have it any other way.
When the cook finished, she would happily accept her burger, nearly drooling as she took it back to her little spot near the stand. She may not have enjoyed working for money but she sure enjoyed the food! "Thank you Bernie! I owe you a million billion~" He was one of the few she would always take his advice without question... speaking of the devil.
As she took a bite from her burger, she'd be greeted with the familiar sight of Antoine, who looked more than a little distracted. Perhaps Bernie brought him along for work? Er, perhaps not. She sat there munching on her burger as she watched their back and forth. She knew both of them individually and knew they worked together, but this was the first time she had seen them together.
When Bernie brought her into the fold, she'd swallow her bite and put the burger back in the wrapper, placing it gently on the table and approaching the duo. "Oh hey, it's you! I didn't realize you'd be here!" she was always happy to see a familiar kind face around here "The hat? I changed it up! For once I'm not working from home~ Bernie was able to help become the nurse around here!" she'd give a little spin showing off the rest of her outfit. She didn't even realize Bernie implied that he was flirting with her, instead focusing on the much, much more interesting bit: "A date? Ooh how fun! Who is it? Are they coming here? Tell me tell me!"

It turns out there was a benefit to getting a medical license and working for a hero agency! Of course, for Megumi, this wasn't exactly for the reasons your average person would guess. Dream World had a lot going for it, and one of the biggest appeals was the variety of food! Some vendors were chosen to set up shop in their food court and Bernie was one of them. Megumi, who didn't want to miss an opportunity for free food, was able to offer her services as a medical professional to work that area of Dream World to be ready to perform first aid on anyone who needed it.
"So Bernie!" she had used Shrinky Dink to reach her maximum height of 6'2 as she believed it made her seem more legitimate. Of course, this was contrasted by the tiny nurse hat she wore to replace her normal tiny hat. "Can I get a Megumi special?" as of right now, she hadn't actually had to do anything but sit around and wait, which meant getting free food. "For you? Absolutely. Order coming up!" Bernie would get to work and Megumi would take a seat at the closest table to the booth.

She had fixed his physical injuries, but his body would still need time to adjust to the treatment. "Five minutes cousin! Then you can get up! In the meantime don't lay down even if you really, really want to." It was for his own benefit as the adhesive wasn't foolproof.
"I don't need to cleaning but I'll take the food! The guy who's been coming around a lot for treatment actually works at Bernie's Burgers, so if you're in the area and ask Bernie for a Megumi special, he'll give you what I like!" she didn't mind Antoine showing up as she loved to chat with people when she had the chance and even more than that she would get a meal out any treatment via her policy. "As for becoming an auntie, of course I'm excited! We're not exactly drowning in family nowadays so having you and Zaza plus these kiddos around will be a lot of fun!" The perfect cure for exhaustion even if it was only temporary relief! No better time than delivering a baby or two to make sure you were alert and focused which is exactly what that level of caffeine would do to her. "Yeah! I've been in Japan for a long time cousin! This was over the last decade, not last week!" she'd laugh knowing that Chuck's surprise was likely because he was very all over the place. Who wouldn't be if they were about to be a father? First babies it was always the guy who needed more assurance than the woman actually delivering.
Right at this moment though Chuck didn't really matter all that much. He wasn't the one about to push out two kids! "You'll be fine Zaza the kids are healthy and you're in good shape! Deep breathing is gonna help~ As for the epidural..." she'd move over to the workstation she had set up while Kazashi was changing until she found the catheter "Chuckie told me you'd be a little nervous so I'm gonna explain the whole process don't you worry!" she'd hold up the epidural catheter. "I'm just gonna give you a quick spinal injection and trust me its not gonna hurt at all! Just a little bit of pressure on your lower back. I gotcha a local anesthetic that I know for sure won't cause any complications!" once Kazashi was properly sat and before she laid back she would take the opportunity to use an alcoholic wipe to sterilize the area before making a quick injection into the spine "See! in and out! It'll kick in in about 15 minutes or so, plenty of time to get you ready!"
Megumi had genuinely never seen Kazashi talk this much, which was clearly due to nerves. "Zaza, you and Chuckie are the only family I got. I'm gonna do everything I can to make sure these babies are fine and you'll be fine. Lean back, put your feet into the stirrups, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths" The two of them had likely never seen Megumi this serious about anything either, but she was laser-focused on making sure her family was going to be okay. "This might be a little uncomfortable, but I'm going to need to take a look at your cervix so I can see how dilated you are. The babies aren't going to come at any moment! It always feels like they're moving along faster than they actually are." she would place her head in between her legs and take a moment to see how far along she was "8 cm. We've got about 20 minutes so plenty of time for that medicine to kick in~" she'd lean back and take a seat on the spinning stool she had gotten for this exact purpose before she would scoot it over so she could see Kazashi's face "You totally got this mi hermana~ This is gonna be a cakewalk compared to some of that hero biz that you get up to!" She'd give her belly a quick pat. "Did you guys decide on names?" they had nothing else to do but wait, so she figured she'd do her best to distract her...maybe she could just make up something?

She stiffled a yawn as she went into her makeshift kitchen and poured herself some coffee that had been warming for a while, she didn't drink often but when she did caffeine was always something she needed to get through to the next day.
Taking a single sip, she'd hear the rapid knock at the door and would take her time. Whether Chuck and Kazashi knew it being in labor still gave them plenty of time to get things sorted out, and she greeted the two eagerly, "Welcome future parents! You're fine don't worry come on in. Zaza, you want to go into the room on the right? It's nice and clean! Take a seat on the stool in there so I can use the epidural. As for mis primos~" she'd direct him to the kitchen. "Grab yourself some coffee and a snack. I got this! You guys are like the 15th couple I've delivered a baby for and like the third that are having twins~" The best lesson Megumi was taught by her parents was that as a doctor, you need to be calm for your patients, always even family like Chuckie.
Once Kazashi was situated Megumi would go into full-on doctor mode "Okay! Zaza, first you gotta get changed into this gown, then I'm gonna give you the epidural, and you'll get up on the bed and put your feet in the stirrups." the room was very organized compared to her normal lackadaisical method of medical practice and organization. "You ready to be a mom?"

I wouldn't be surprised if these acquaintances became close friends soon enough; you're a good person!" all it took was for him to bring her lunch and she was sold on his character, not even questioning the line of work he was in that got him injured this much. After who was she to judge? She performed medical procedures for food and lived with a Goose.
Taking the opportunity to dig into the food he brought finally she'd take a seat on the clean table near the two of them and unwrap the burger "Oh yeah, you're free to go back to work whenever as long as you're not in pain, if you are just take it easy" she'd take a large bite out of the burger "Unless you need something else from me you're good! Thanks for the food!"

She had stayed up deceptively late compared to her usual routine, which put her in bed most days at 9. This time however, she was celebrating with the neighborhood with the start of summer which meant she didn't end up getting in until nearly 5 am.
The call from her cousin fully woke her up from her deep slumber. She took a moment to get her bearings and wipe the drool from her chin before answering her phone. "Heya Chuckie~ Oh? OH!" it would all click in her brain at once; she'd been keeping up with Kazashi's checkup for so long and preparing for this exact moment. She had taken the time to set up a Goose barrier for an adjacent room upstairs and cleaned out her junk to prepare a birthing area. [It went into a different closet]
"Ready for you two whenever! I've got everything set up!" she had called in a lot of favors to get actually proper medical equipment for this exact purpose. Her unorthodox medical methods weren't something she was willing to rely on when it came to the safe delivery of her 'niece' and 'nephew'. Tying her hair back, she'd get to work, sterilizing the area, and making sure the heart monitor, new bed, and epidural were ready to go.

Traditional money was a big no-no for her and that meant that working for anyone, except for herself, was never an option. She was flexible with a lot of things but not this. Luckily for Mai Kazashi knew this and had arranged for Megumi to join their agency as the chief of medical staff (the only one) without a traditional pay! The only caveat is that Megumi and Mai would meet first
Megumi, who was a very social person, had virtually no apprehension when it came to meeting Mai. She had heard of some of her exploits on the news and the radio, and as Kazashi's senior, she was certainly building up an image of someone very impressive! "I'm excited to meet her!" she would say, helping put away some laundry as she helped with housework as she did whenever she visited.
As the doorbell rang Megumi debated changing her outfit into something more dojo-like. Perhaps a white stage, a black kosode, a black hakama, a white hakama-himo, white tabi, and waraji? (Author note: This is a shinigami outfit) Nah. Too formal and stuffy. Her regular clothing was good enough!
When Mai entered, Megumi was admittedly surprised by her small stature, expecting someone much more tall and imposing based on how Kazashi talked about her exploits. Either way she'd approach eagerly, setting down the laundry at the nearest table "Hello~! Megumi Okumura, nice to meet ya!"

Even if some people might think living in a warehouse with a goose with multiple heads is your hyper-destructive roommate IS a terrible situation it still allowed Megumi to live her life freely. Plus anyone could get used to anything!
With visuals now on the bullet, Megumi felt comfortable speeding up the process a bit further. She was a doctor after all and her methods may have been unorthodox, but she definitely didn't like making things more painful than she had to be. With proper equipment and a larger staff, her 'clinic' could be very successful! "I get that~ I got a one-way ticket and ended up here, but I don't plan on leaving."
With a clink, the bullet would finally leave Antoine's body and landed on the operating table. Megumi would take the bullet and toss it into a nearby trashcan with a large 'biohazard' sign scribbled on the front, clearly a child's handwriting or at least someone with childlike wonder. "About needing friends, connections, amigos, ya know? Someone to have your back!" she didn't realize he had actually organized a meet and greet for this purpose, but she did notice there was something a little different about his demeanor today. Perhaps he was more at peace? Or woozy because of the bullet wound, either way.

I've had a few new faces coming around for treatment like this one guy who...I don't know his name actually but he's nice!" she would go into her desk and take out some meds to help Chuck deal with the pain and relax. So much so that she was immediately put to work developing clothing that had a byproduct of it. In Megumi's own weird way it was a way to feel closer to family as her and chuck were the only people she had that were close to her. Sure, she had the community she lived in but those were neighbors and friendly acquaintances. She'd never had a close bond with anything before she reconnected with chuckie and met zaza.
The food would arrive shortly; talk about service! "As your doctor," she'd shove a dumpling into her mouth and munch on it, smiling happily to herself as she did so. "That's probably a good call! I'm sure even if it doesn't hurt them, they might not like it~!" one of the more traditional things she knew about medicine was that thanks to the quirk factor most of the time babies were safe from their parents quirk. Megumi was sure that with the resilience of Chuckies quirk that they'd be fine either way.
"You know, sometimes I forget that you're famous!" she'd shovel some of the grilled fish and rice into her mouth. "You work for that agency the uh...soul society? I don't remember the name!" she wasn't negligent just scatterbrained. "It's nice to take some breaks from work for sure~! Can't believe we still have a whole week ahead of us! So exciting~" it wasn't exactly super late but given the travel and Kazashi's heavy pregnancy, it was likely that they'd just finish eating and then settle down for the night.
