Slowly it seemed to Hiro that the tenuous interest Ghouligan had started with was crumbling away. First there was those unprofessional louts more interested in food (Hiro would never), and then the skeleton kid deciding that discretion was in fact the best part of valor. And then there was a third one that decided the best reaction was taking a little catnap in the space of time they were required to make their decisions. So Hiro decided to step in, and decided to slip himself into place next to Ghouligan. "Chief, you’re losing the room. I count at least two out of three souls here might lack the stomach for a fight!" he’d reveal as if it wasn’t the most obvious fact in the world right now. Speaking of stomachs, he was still pretty hungry. "Maybe you should give them one of those rousingly colourful heroic speeches, I’m sure they’d be prepared to walk into hell and back for you afterwards. If it works for heroes, must work for us non-heroes too, right?” he’d continue to suggest, not even waiting to think if his advice was welcome. Then he decided to make a display of revealing his own side on the matter. "As for me, I am right behind you to be the one that does the swooping, you know… swooping in to save the day, just after I… found myself some pre-rescue snackage.” he revealed, doing his best (and failing) to make it sounds like he didn’t sound like a complete idiot. "Besides, with light step in my hands, human traffickers don’t stand a chance anyways, so I should give y’all a chance rather than steal your thunder.”

For a second he expected the heroes to have found him again, the drone was pretty much right on him before it suddenly decided to have a different life of its own and back away. Making sure to attract the attention of the heroes searching, and fly off into a wildly different direction with the heroes in tow. Whatever happened, he wasn’t expecting it to last. But in the corner of his eyes he noticed the billboard flickering, trying to get his attention... Either the viral marketing craze is reaching new heights, or someone is trying to message me. he spoke internally as he followed the trail of digital ad hoardings down the rabbit hole. Besides, the path he was taking was hardly one he would’ve used for himself, and hardly one a person would go for if they were fleeing from overzealous heroes trying to stop a hard working honest freelancer such as himself. Eventually after a while he made his way into a safehouse, it wasn’t particularly ritzy, one would be mistaken people even lived there. But Hiro let out a breath as he looked around, and wondered who his saviour was. ”So is this the part where a hologram will show up, and tell me I have been selected for a super secret spy programme to save a space princess and steal some plans?” he mused out loud, amalgamating a litany of pop culture references that drifted aimlessly through his mind. Weird how such things somehow had survived his entire memory disappearing, and not… well… his actual memories. But it didn’t matter as the first thing he did was beeline for the fridge to see if whoever was inhabiting this dump had left him some snackage.

Whatever they were doing, it definitely didn’t make the creature happy to be in the center of it all. The beast squirmed and roared discordantly from what happened, and Hiro knew he was making a dent. At least until he felt the acidic blood touch his tracksuit, and quickly started burning itself through the cheap polyester weave and sting his unprotected skin underneath it. His instincts barely registered it, though, but enough to make his body move and take him up. Using his abilities to scale the monsters like he was walking on flat ground, he sprinted and ran his blade along the beast lengthwise. It wasn’t going to be particularly deep, his blade wasn’t that amazing, but such a cut would undoubtedly be excruciating even for a monster slug. "Time to send you back into the ocean!” Hiro exclaimed as his eyes were bright blue from his activated quirk. He couldn’t stop, at least not for more than a second without gravity causing him to fall to the ground again. So instead he stopped near what he assumed was the beasts head, and with all his physical power jammed the sword into the beast, twisting viciously and violently. The beast would shake, roar louder than before and with more distress than it probably imagined ever experiencing. And whilst he dangled himself on the sword, not even the dripping acid burning his skin could make his fingers let go of Light Step.

”Assassination and illegal dealings definitely doesn’t sound very cheeky and fun.” he’d remark half seriously, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. These Spiders were bad news, and he disliked the types. Honestly, mostly he hadn’t dealt with the types of people that could legit murder people in cold blood. Mostly bullies, crooks and general lowlives that knew to take a step back if it meant keeping their teeth intact. But Hiro was confident in himself, even if he didn’t know who he had been before he washed up, he knew that he was capable enough to put a bruising on anybody, even stone cold killers. ”You know, maybe we should make a plan how to take them on, really show them that they should have a different line of work if they want to find happiness in their lives...” Hiro spoke, but then felt the grumble of his stomach overrule any deeper thoughts. ”How about we discuss it over a bowl of ramen?” he’d propose, of course hoping that the other would find it in their heart to pay for it. Of course, he was owed a meal thanks to his friends, so he was hoping that he could at least swing that. ”How about it, Friend?” he’d say with a big overwhelming smile.

The ranks swelled considerably, even after Ghouligan had said his piece. Jealously he stared at the one eating greasy chicken on his own. "I feel I need to address the elephant in the room, why did this guy bring chicken to a party and not be prepared to share?" he’d comment out loud, if only to suppress the sound his gut made at the thought of juicy crisp fried chicken. It didn’t matter anyways, before he knew it the chicken was gone, and so was his chance of a meal. The rest of the group started talking again, and now Hiro was transfixed by the skeleton in the room. "That’s a dope suit, must’ve taken a lot of effort to make." Hiro’d call out at the foul mouthed skeleton boy. He’d try to slap the guy on the shoulder, and at close up realized it wasn’t a suit but rather… Well, his everything. At least they were covered up, not that there was much to hide from the eyes. Hiro was very much screaming internally at their presence, and would awkwardly look elsewhere as he equally awkwardly ‘snuck’ his way back to the furthest corner in the room. "Uh, anyways… When’s the after-party?" he’d ask, trying his best to look cool leaning against the wall only to slip and nearly hit his head on the concrete.

That first meeting with the guy that named himself Ghouligan had been a bit of an odd one. Hiro regularly was aloof, and regularly forgot important things. But that idea of a meeting had been on his mind, and when he had gotten himself the invite, he had found himself going. Maybe there was free food, he loved free food. "Well I have made it, despite the directions." he’d joke out loud as the scraggly vigilante made his way in, sword clinging to his back and wearing his trusty tracksuit. But he had made sure to wash it this time, first impressions mattered, he guessed… Well, technically, this would be a second impression. But as he’d notice, he wasn’t the only person that got the invitation. "But it’s not like I’m here because you told me or something…” he’d say crossing his arms and acting bashfully, on purpose, very much on purpose. He’d glance around some more, there were a few others already, ones that he didn’t recognize and he assumed didn’t recognize him back. And someone about the size of a Ghouligan wearing a skull mask. It also made him realize that he was the only one right now not in any disguise, he assumed. Not that he cared that much about keeping his identity a secret, hard to have a secret identity when he himself hardly knew his own actual identity. He was going to wing it, every single step of the way and every single interaction. "Yo, I’m Hiro. You two also here for the super secret ‘don’t tell a soul’ hangout?” he’d greet the others, casually dropping his name. "I had hoped there was food, though. These meetings are soooo boring without snacks!”

Unsurprisingly, and partly by desing the redhead would not let him leave and almost immediately used her quirk to stop him dead in his track. But despite the threat, he neither went for his sword nor looked scared as he turned back to face the lady with a slightly confounded look on his face. ”Time to reel this one in.” his devious side spoke inside of his head, knowing that he had this lady right where he wanted her. And he could thank his lucky stars that the lady seemed to be not that bright herself, doing half the selling for him. "No! Don’t take this innocent little kitten, it has suffered enough!” he’d call out, his voice laying on the dramatics extra thick and making sure as many people could hear him. Most people had cleared out after most of the excitement had faded, but a few hadn’t, and gasps and disapproving murmurs could be heard aimed towards the redhead, who was now seen in a way different light. Having ensnared the ‘true’ saviour of the cat, blaming him for what happened, and trying to take the kitten to what people would assume was getting rid of the evidence of her screwup. Within seconds, public opinion shifted dramatically and people would call out towards the redhead. "Stop that, everyone knows you nearly set fire to that kitten!” a civilian called out, with others vocally agreeing. But whilst Hiro could be devious, he was hardly cruel, and would with great dramatics raise his hand in peace. "Please, do not be too harsh on her, I am sure she means the best!” Hiro calls out, gesturing towards the redhead to move into whispering range. "If you buy me lunch, I’ll make sure you get out of here looking better than ever.” he proposed with a sly smile, the ‘innocent’ amount of blackmail now having been made.

Just when he hoped the foul fowl would ease off on its vicious onslaught, things got worse. The ocean shifting violently, causing the goose to even get caught in the wave hitting the beach. Hiro shielded his eyes against the salty ocean spray, but wasn’t safe enough to get completely soaked anyways. His clothing clinging against him nastily like an old wet newspaper, it made him feel all the more disgusted that the goose would be able to do such a powerful move that even put itself in danger. But at least, that thought changed when he looked again and saw the purple monstrosity on the beach, slowly and menacingly making its way onto dry land looking hungry for violence… and perhaps human lives. "Of course, it all makes sense…” Hiro exclaimed, looking dumbfounded at the goose and realizing that he had been fooling himself. "You aren’t just a minion, you are the leader of these invaders, and knowing you can’t beat me you just called out your ultimate minion!” Hiro exclaimed, once more fully missing the point. But his mind was set, as he assumed the goose was calling out his instructions to the massive slug, undoubtedly to aim its violence towards Hiro. Not wanting to wait for that to happen, his instincts took over and launched himself towards the new enemy, his sword perhaps not as infinitely sharp as a minute ago, but still capable of slicing into the massive body of the beast. And he’d make sure to aim at its legs, hoping light step could cut deep and decisive enough to hamper its movement… Or at least make it escape his onslaught! And in all the instinctual violence, he had completely ignored the goose overhead making another nasty bombing run.

”Wait, what is wrong with my clothes?” Hiro inspected himself in mild confusion. ”The person at the store told me it was very fashionable.” he’d add. Well, maybe it was getting a bit too musky for its own good. And he had been pretty much wearing just that in the past six months, so it was definitely getting pushed to its practical limits. But it was nice and comfortable, and it wasn’t as if he had so much money that he could go out and buy a whole new wardrobe for himself. It was… transient chic, like the loveable cad he knew he was. ”I must admit I skipped my gangs of Japan classes… whenever I went to school.” he’d reply to the redhead leader of the would-be crew of overeager world-improvers. ”There’s a lot of things I am a bit fuzzy on, I must admit.” He wasn’t in the habit of telling everyone ”Hey, I lost all my memories and washed up in Okinawa.”, so he wasn’t going to share that just yet. But the guy seemed like a decent enough sort, he guessed, and he always found himself to be a perfect judge of character. ”I honestly move around and try to find work for people that need it, saving cats from trees, solving trolley dilemmas, and hauling crates. You know, whatever makes people happy.” he’d explain to Eiji as he felt more and more comfortable, enough to slip his vague sense of comedy in again. ”If you need help with those rivals, I can always lend a hand for fair pay.” he’d add with a cheeky smile. ”Could put sugar in their gas tanks, to really mess with them.”

Giving the little furball another glance, it definitely had something magnetic about it. That little money gremlin in the back of the head continued to nag, at least, until the empty headed hero shook him out of his inner thoughts again. "Keeping what?” he´d ask her, before realizing they were talking about the kitten. "I mean, I don’t know if I am stupid, but pretty sure you were the one that nearly set the cat and half the block on fire...” Hiro would chirp back with a mean smile. He could trade barbs with the best… or worst(?) of them. This lady had nothing to put him down with if he got going. "So I assume you want the cat, then? I hope it’s not just so you can finish the job, or get rid of the evidence of your cat torching ways.” Hiro would remark, deliberately mean and leaning on her gaffe. He would make a display of turning away from her, cradling the kitten. Walking away at such a slow pace that he was certain she would follow along, if only because of what he was saying to the cat. "Don’t worry little one, I won’t let that mean dumb lady set fire to you a second time!” he’d whisper, stroking its amazingly soft fur.

It felt good for his reputation to be vindicated, and for this red haired dude to understand that he was the good guy in this situation, and not the knuckleheads that he called his friends. It really was extremely rude, how they had taken his kind nature and just trampled all over it. It would take… At least a few hours for him to ever start trusting again. ”Yeah, that’s not what you guys do!” Hiro copied the guy, looking over their shoulder to mean mug at his buddies knowing they weren’t going to try anything now. It wouldn’t ingratiate him with them, but at this point, it was their fault and not his! ”Well, I got the sandwich for fr---” he’d pause in his tracks as he realized he was going to pay for his meal. ”I got it at that one place on main street, you know, that really fancy place. I spend like five days of snack change on it!” he’d profess, with wide eyes and walking the fine line between stone faced lies and looking like a complete ass for playing him. If he was friends with knuckleheads, the jury was still out on him. ”Don’t worry about it, if I got a hundred yen for every time people mistook me for a bad guy, well. I would probably be rich, I think…” he explained, shaking the guy’s hand. ”I am Hiro.””So what do you Hummingbirds do? Do you go around playing music?” he wondered, oblivious to the obvious example of their activities he had gotten.

The foul clarion call would emanate from the fowl as it seemed to have little interest in backing down after Hiro had shown that he was not going to back down from the flapping menace. In fact, all it seemed to do was further agitate the demonic goose to even grander displays of violence, as it now showed its ability of flight. "That’s right, run away back to your lair, you coward!” he exclaimed in mild triumph. Although any sense of victory quickly vanished from Hiro’s eyes as he saw what nasty surprise the goose had up its… rear… "You wouldn’t!” Hiro called out in vain, hoping that the goose would know more sense than engage in a disgusting display of fecal violence. What started as drops quickly turned into a torrent, a proverbial hailstorm escaping from the Goose’s bowels. Drawing upon every inch of his abilities, Hiro’s instincts would power up the sword’s sharpness to its absolute extremes. What seemed nigh impossible became possible, as his sword became sharp enough to not just cut through the rain to keep himself from getting drenched, it would launch whatever was aimed at him straight at the ocean, back at the foul’s monsterous friends, he assumed. "Stop this madness, before I have to strike you down in the name of all laundry detergents!”

You have been cordially invited to partake in The Club. This ticket guarantees one entry, and the entry prize of 50 million Yen that befits a prospective member of The Club.
When you take part in The Club, you have the chance to earn money beyond your wildest imagination. To show our intentions, anybody who signs up is given fifty million yen on behalf of the organisation as your entry prize. But such a small amount is only the beginning, because once if you take part in The Club, you get the opportunity to maximize your winnings by participating against the other members. Winners can earn untold riches, and reach a wealth that no common person could ever attain otherwise. Do you take the risk to win big?
If you choose to accept our gracious offer and enter 2024 prepared to become a new and richer person than ever imagined, take this ticket and hand it over to one of our tournament valet's when they come to confirm participation one week from today. There are no repercussions for not entering, but do know that this lucrative offer shall only be made once.
Sincerely, The Gamesmaster What is "The Club"? To most it's a urban myths that has been shared for many decades in as many countries, wherever one goes people claim there is this mysterious organisation offering untold riches, at the cost of taking part in their illicit tournaments? And for the few of you that received the tickets, you realize it is very much NOT a myth. But whilst the fifty million seems like a dizzying amount of money only a fool can pass up, perhaps the bigger fool is the one that accepts it not knowing what lies behind it. But if you weren't that kind of fool, you would probably not be here right now, thinking about accepting the offer? For obvious reasons, The Club's influence is vast, and doing the logical thing and trying to get the police involved will undoubtedly lead to vast disappointment. This is a tournament where even pro heroes seem to get invited to, all bets are off, whatever happens at The Club stays at The Club, and people are prepared to go to great lengths for untold riches. Also, despite it being a fighting tournament, who says that might is superior? Perhaps the true winners are the ones that can manipulate the game, work it in such a way that they come out on top regardless of how hard they can punch someone into the floor. Looking for: Give or take 8 players and their characters to participate in The Club. | Preferably one character per player (But the story can be adjusted to suit less sign ups, a preferred minimum of 4)
These can be characters from any walk of life, whether they are heroes or villains, vigilantes or civilians. All can have a different motivation for accepting this offer, perhaps you really need the money, you just love making money, or let your curiosity take hold of you when you got your hands on this curious card? Maybe you weren't even supposed to be the original recipient, it doesn't really matter as long as you are the one handing over the ticket to valet sent by The Club. What will happen?: Without revealing everything, the participants are all put into an underground fighting tournament, with the chance to win vast riches for themselves... Or perhaps for another? | But as the game commences, one will quickly realizes there are more dangers at play than just a bruised ego for the loser. (OOC: Players do not have to fear permanent injury, death, or other lasting issues... Unless it is obviously agreed upon among the writers) Any specifics?: I, the gamesmaster, will contact all participants and try to talk about character goals for the tournament. Depending on where everyone's ideas lie, we can look at scripting (rd. pre-planning) parts of the tournament to lead to a mostly satisfying end of the overarching story. Even if only one person can win the tournament proper, perhaps the amount of losers can be minimized too. More random stuff: Want to make your character enter, but they would otherwise not logically accept to take part in such folly? Maybe they enter on behalf of another, a champion if you will... Or maybe they are blackmailed into participating? The rules of The Club are flexible. Order of Play: The first thread will be a short one. Once the eight participants have cashed in their tickets, they will be invited to a currently unknown location so that they can meet one another. This is a chance for the writers to write their character's origins pertaining the tournament. How did they get there, how did they get a ticket, why did they sign up and what are their motivations for participating? Are you here to uncover a mystery, or merely to make as much money hurting others as you can? Every player has their reasons, as shallow or as honourable as they might be. At the end of the first thread (repeated at the start of the second) is the layout of the tournament. Everyone will be matched up, and the tournament begins proper. Can you make it through the first round? What lies in the second? Maybe this is a chance for the more adventurous types to start preparing their own plans, to do some investigating in the hope of uncovering some truths? Or maybe a chance for the less heroic to try and manipulate their opposition, in the hope of making the tournament easier for them? Disclaimer: This plot is basically in most elements lifted from various battle royale type manganime, with the most notable one being Liar Game, but placed within the context of a fighting tournament instead. Participants: - Rui Matsui - Mimiko - Claudio Bernardo - Sendo Orochi - Morgana Moriarty
