One look at him and it was clear that he not only had years of experience, but he had seen a world much more vast than hers. ''I see. So you've moved for the sake of work primarily, forgive me if I was speaking out of turn asking you such a personal question.'' She was nervous speaking to a teacher like this after class. She knew nothing about him and she wasn't exactly in trouble for breaking any rules, but for some reason it felt like she was. Would a prestigious hero really accept a failure like her and try to teach her anything? She could only hope so, as learning from Lawbringer might be her last shot at making any progress. ''I will take your word for it. My parents traveled when I was young, but I have yet to learn much about the world outside of Japan myself.'' She was lacking in knowledge there, but she could always travel later in life, or read up on the different parts of the world where it felt relevant. ''Me?'' She was a bit surprised by his question. ''Like many others, I want to become a hero to make a difference. I was born with the most treasured quirk in the Ando family, the same one as my father. A shining armor. It's a symbol of peace and justice. To carry on the tradition of my family name, it is my duty to dedicate myself to the people and the betterment of our world.'' She said it like it was a noble mission, but even she was starting to feel exhausted with the expectations that were placed on her. Not that she could let that show through her stoic facade. ''If I am not mistaken, our quirks have a few commonalities between them.''Lawbringer

For being a hero, she knew shockingly little about him. Usually she was well-read and researched on most heroes she came across months or years before she ever saw them, but not Lawbringer. She had a vague sense of who he was, she had heard a few rumors here and there, read some English articles online about him, and he did seem familiar somehow. However, all of that was just what other people said, or who they claimed he was. She needed to meet him herself to get a good look at the hero Lawbringer. As someone who had a strict upbringing she was a little taken aback by his request to drop the honorifics. For a moment she forgot that not every culture on Earth was so preoccupied with titles and formalities. She tried and failed miserably to repeat Mr. Deveraux in her head, and Max seemed too formal. ''Duly noted, Lawbringer.'' She was as serious and tense as ever, not to slight him, but just because she was a very stoic person. A glance at his desk told her he had a lot of paperwork to get through, but she didn't comment on it. ''Not at all, I will accompany you to the fields.'' She stepped aside to let him take the lead, before following him out the door. ''Lawbringer.'' She started up, she was terrible with people, but that wasn't going to stop her from trying to get a conversation going. ''May I ask, why did you come to Japan? What compelled you to travel?''Lawbringer

The divide in the room was more than a little jarring to say the least. Ana's side seemed nice, almost reminded her of her own room with how neat and clean and orderly it appeared. Now Jun's side however... She was willing to let her off the hook for now, mainly because she was hurt and because she bet she wouldn't be able to keep up with her chores either if she was on pain medications herself. She crossed her arm at Jun's reply and resigned to hanging back a bit while her friend looked for the Fate DVD. ''Those guys you describe are nothing short of depraved deviants.'' She said harshly, her face turning red, a little surprised to hear that come out of Jun of all people. She still vividly remembered Jun getting into an argument with Yoko over drinking at the yacht party. ''Besides, should you be swearing? That's unheroic behavior, Kanjo-san.'' She said it as if she never swore herself which was definitely a lie. She just wasn't as unhinged about as someone like Gen or Ylva. Once Jun found the DVD she couldn't help but take a peek. ''You are correct, that armor does bear a striking resemblance to mine.'' Maybe it was wishful thinking since this was an anime movie and all, but maybe she could learn something from watching it? ''How many times have you seen this DVD?'' She blinked her eyes and found an appropriate place to sit. Oh well, even if she learned nothing at least she knew Jun wasn't alone and freaking out about what she had gone through. junsuina

A failure. She had struggled during the hostage rescue exercise, she couldn't defeat Stronghold at the Beta Blitz and she even came up short at the Sports Festival. After all this time she thought she was finally starting to improve, she was finally regaining her confidence enough to go for her provisional license, only to fail miserably. She was stood out in the hallway waiting while some UAU staff was talking through everything that had happened without her. She couldn't possibly know what they were talking about, but she didn't spare it many thoughts either. She was too preoccupied being angry with herself, running the events back in her head again and again. Where had she failed? How many missteps had she made? What was she going to tell her parents? ...Could it be that she wasn't worthy of the name Paragon? She looked down at her hand. She had been training harder lately, harder than ever before, but her quirk hadn't gotten any stronger from it. Had her armor rejected her fully? What was it that she lacked? Why could people like Ylva Riis, vulgar brutes who held little to no respect for the people around them improve so much over her in the same timespan? She felt like punching the wall, but she resisted, held back her emotions like she always did. Unable to fully express them. Taking a deep breath she only straightened up her back once the door opened. ''Lawbringer-sensei.'' She stood at attention as if she was a soldier, or a noble knight. She couldn't let any of her frustrations show, she couldn't afford to show weakness now, not here. ''I was told to seek you out.'' She paused for a moment before bowing her head. ''I'm Masao Ando, a third year support student and the eldest of the Ando family.''Lawbringer

Her quirk itself wasn't exactly a secret as it wasn't the easiest to hide, but she had deliberately given away one of her biggest weaknesses on how to weaken the armor to make him feel a little better. Besides, if they were to be training partners, friends, or what some might even call friendly rivals, she felt it important that he knew just in case it ever came up. Still, while she never hid her armor, she never really used it to show it off either. ''Is that so?'' She let out a soft chuckle and couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed, unsure of how to process such high praise. ''That is the first time anyone has ever said that my quirk possessed beauty. You flatter me.'' She understood why he didn't want villains to see the intricacies of his quirk, but perhaps that made sharing a moment like this all the more special? Now that she was keeping such a precious secret, one she would take with her to her grave if she had to. She wanted to communicate as much too, but for fear of coming off too intense she held her tongue. Wait... When did she ever care about what others thought? She watched closely as he used his quirk to write on the table. ''Not only a swordsman, Arashi-san is an artist too.'' His power is reserved for important things, such as his weapon. It would be more than an honor to have him use his artistry on a blade made by her own hands. ''Truly, a beautiful power in its own way.'' And she meant it too, even if she wasn't the best at communicating emotions. ''I can have the sword finished by next week. With the materials coming in soon, shaping them to a weapon worthy of your name should be a trivial process.'' She was exaggerating, but she wanted him to know that it wasn't a problem, and that she took this commission very seriously. She glanced at the calligraphy as it disappeared like a stain of breath upon a mirror. ''As for training, I can begin tomorrow.'' She took out her phone. ''Perhaps it would be beneficial for us to exchange phone numbers?'' She tried not to show that she was nervous, but she was. She never really asked people for their phone numbers, but logically it made sense if she was to train with Enma Arashi going forward. ''I have a workshop here on campus, I will let you know once the sword is finished.''enma

She narrowed her eyes a bit at Jun. ''I appreciate the compliment, Kanjo-san, but I somehow doubt that.'' It wasn't exactly her looks she was worried about, but if she really had to get into it, she didn't know the first thing about being a woman. She didn't know what kind of dress looked good on her, didn't know how to apply her makeup beyond the basic stuff. She didn't know how to walk in high heels, or what girls usually even talked about. That wasn't getting into the fact that she had a man's name, she was expected to take over the family business as a man even though she wasn't and to top it all off, she wasn't good with people either! Her? Get a boyfriend? Preposterous, ridiculous. Jun didn't know her as well as she knew herself. She didn't see all the ways that she was flawed... She didn't see all the ways she felt weird, or out of touch with her emotions. Not because she wanted to be cool, but because it was genuinely hard for her to express them as well as other people. She took a deep breath. ''Besides, I'm too tall.'' She turned her head away from Jun in embarrassment. ''See, that was exactly what I was getting at. You have your painting and your taters. I have my training and my weapons. I'm too busy with that too.'' She gave a casual shrug. ''We aree the same, you and I.'' They totally weren't, but she wasn't about to look like a fool over Jun's silly antics and questions. ''Is that your roommate? Duly noted.'' She wondered why Jun stopped at the door, but didn't say anything. Despite being a bit of a wreck herself, at least Jun was actually having fun and not freaking out while feeling numb, or anything else she could be feeling. ''Fate? Your fate is your own, surely, I cannot affect or decide that one for you. Unless you mean Fate as in a book, or a movie, in which case no I haven't the faintest what you are talking about.'' She followed after Jun. junsuina

And somehow she did feel compelled to trust him. Not only was he contributing to her project, not only was he willingly wanting to test one of her weapons, but he was sharing what she assumed to be very personal secrets with her. Namely Raiju, and the nature of his quirk. Many students guarded the exact secrets surrounding their power with their life, so for him to show it to her... Her thoughts were interrupted when Raiju erupted into a rainbow of colors in his hand, and here she thought she had seen everything already. ''It would appear they do. There's enough rot in the world, change is inevitable.'' She smirked, unsure if he hadn't noticed that Raiju was changing, or if he was just so used to it by now that it seemed mundane to him. After having suffered loss after loss, Masao was starting to doubt she was cut out for the practical side of hero work. However, through Enma, through his strong convictions, his humble and respectful self and the colors of the Journey that lit the way, slowly but surely she was feeling the motivation seep back into her. She continued to listen to him intently, only blinking her eyes and looking down at his hand when he did and seemingly noticed what was happening. ''Raiju, it changed.'' She knew it would since he had told her as much, but to actually see it with her own eyes left her awestruck. Quirks were often terrifying, often deadly, but they could also be a beautiful, beautiful thing. ''Your quirk is incredible, Arashi-san.'' There was excitement in her voice that she usually couldn't express, but she dialed it back a bit when she took another look at his face. Did he use it by mistake? ''For what it's worth, your secret is safe with me.'' She took a couple of steps back. ''And I'll show you my power in return. The armor that has been passed through my family since quirks first appeared.'' She took a deep breath. The armor she was one day going to prove herself worthy of. The armor that made her Paragon. In a flash, almost like a magical girl transformation, Masao's body was covered in bright light, but just as quickly the light faded and in its place a heavy suit of armor covered her from her feet to her shoulders. She closed and opened her hand, testing the integrity of her transformation before smiling back at Enma. ''As you can see, my quirk is suited for defense, not offense. Perhaps that is part of why I create weapons.'' She walked back over to Enma and made her armor fade in the blink of an eye. ''My quirk responds to my state of well-being, so if I'm sick or hurt it is much less effective.'' She added. ''Now we've both shared a secret with each other.''enma

For once Ylva was making some amount of sense, but she hardly had time to think about that when Gen was pushing her buttons. She couldn't stand the way he conducted himself. It was almost as if he derived pleasure from annoying people and putting others down, as if he did all this just for fun. How could someone like him ever become a fully fledged hero? Instead of coming up with some kind of witty comeback in the mere seconds that was left before the games begun, she instead just resigned to giving him an angry glare. The type of glare that let him know that he had made her shit list, although he was probably already aware of that. Almost within record time Ylva, brutish as she was had taken out another team. Easy for her to encourage everyone else to have a good offense when her quirk was built for it. Someone like herself, summoning a suit of armor? She didn't have the range, she didn't have the speed. At best, she could tank blows and that was probably going to be her role in this hellish obstacle course. Handing Ylva the bomb, they were all set to continue. Of course Gen had to chime in with his abhorrent commentary too. ''Kurokami-san, focus on the task at hand!'' She scolded him for his condescending comments against the losing team. Was he serious? Was he really leaving them behind to take care of the bomb and climb the rock wall? She would have shouted at him again if she had the time, but they were on the clock. ''Riis-san, make sure to pass that bomb before you drop it!'' She glanced over at her teammate briefly as she started climbing. ''Kanjo-san, careful!'' She didn't see what it was, but some kind of quirk attack knocked some rocks loose and for a second there she almost thought Jun was going to fall down. She blinked her eyes when Jun called her Saber. ''It's Ando!'' She called out just as she was helped up by being flung. She hated having to rely on the likes of Ylva and Gen. Two of the biggest scumbags, they could backstab the team at any moment and there was nothing she could do about it. ''Think you can do that, Kurokami-san? Help someone for once in your life?'' Her eyes were filled with just as much spite as the tone in her voice, but she would be damned if they failed this exercise because of her. Once at the top she would accept the bomb back, before passing it to Gen. This way, it had already passed through everyone's hands once. ''A bridge?'' She panted, looking at the next obstacle that awaited them. Seeing as it was a log bridge suspended over a mud pit she immediately knew that her quirk would be useless here. A suit of armor that made her heavier? She was bound to crash through or slip off the bridge if she wasn't careful. ''Let's be careful about this, the two fastest people should cross first.'' She looked at the others, well aware that wasn't her, but ready to follow whatever plan the others might come up with. Anything to succeed. junsuina, Kurokami Gen, Ylva Riis

''You flatter me.'' She smirked, it was one thing that she got good grades and she knew it, but she had never had anyone compliment her intellect so directly. ''You've more than convinced me you're fit for the job.'' She carried on just as seriously. For once, it was nice to speak to someone who not only shared a common interest with her, but seemed to appreciate direct communication the same way she did. Some people would always ask her why she didn't smile more, why she didn't wear excessive makeup or paint her nails, and no matter what reason she gave she could never be let off the hook. She didn't feel like Enma would ask about any of that. They were here to talk about swords, and potentially open up to each other. She had already shared more with him than any other student at the school. She watched with anticipation as he undid the satin cloth. It was one thing to wrap your run of the mill sword in cloth, or put it in a sheath, but his was apparently different due to the properties of his quirk. In what way exactly was it different? She was eager to find out. ''Marvelous..'' She was practically at a loss for words at the reveal. Beautifully soft colors, and yet it had a strikingly unique appearance, like the sword was proudly announcing who it was. Not afraid to stand out in a crowd, truly a sword befitting of a future professional hero such as Enma Arashi. ''This sword, Raiju, it has been in your family for generations?'' Her eyes were practically sparkling with interest. ''Is that so? I would be a fool to pass up such a generous offer.'' And here she had been looking to train more on her own too. To get a training partner just like that? Fate was truly on her side today. ''Then surely, we shall strive to become the best together.'' She smiled, it was subtle, but it was a smile. Offering him a handshake. ''Unless your aspirations are wholly different? In which case, I will help you attain your own goals, Arashi-san.''The way he spoke about his power so carefully while remaining respectful of her own suggestions was admirable. ''A portrait, you say?'' She looked at him, then back down at Raiju to inspect it closer. ''You're kind, I can tell as much.'' All she needed to believe his words was one glance at his sword. She didn't know how much combat it had seen, but no matter how you looked at it, Enma took good care of his weapon. She put a finger down on the flat side of the blade and delicately traced the design without cutting herself. It was a good weight too, sturdy, but not too heavy to be cumbersome to wield. ''I look forward to seeing how you will shape the sword that I make for you into your own.'' She handed Raiju back to him, respectfully and carefully. A family culture centered around weapons, inherited quirks, an interest in weapons as a result of their upbringings, it was almost uncanny how many things they had in common. ''So, I can either make a sword for you, or you can commission me for one. Since you are familiar with weapons, I trust you would know how to put in a good commission, but whichever choice you make I'll be starting work on the sword as soon as possible.''enma

For as tough as he looked, he was surprisingly humble. Looks could be awfully deceiving, not that he looked, or like he had bad intentions, but she would have thought someone like him might have been eager to accept compliments about his skill, not downplay himself. It was a welcome surprise, Enma Arashi was growing more and more interesting by the minute. She smirked, a rarity for someone like her. ''Your finesse with the blade will speak for itself I'm sure.'' She was used to always being the most tense person in the room, but something about his reaction made her feel at ease. She listened intently when he finally pulled back the curtain on the question he had asked her. It seemed so obvious in hindsight and she felt a bit embarrassed for not having touched on that in her own response. ''I see. That was an insightful response, Arashi-san. You have convinced me through words alone that you do not carry a sword merely because it's some passing interest you have picked up along the way. You have thought much deeper on the implications of what it means to be an armed hero.'' She paused, glancing down at the floor for a moment as she considered whether she should say anymore. ''My objective is to make the best weapons that this world has ever seen, but that is just step one of my plan. With my blades in the hands of the right people, peace and justice can be brought to this world, and all blades that are in the hands of villains will be seized for the sake of the greater good. That is why I too, train to wield a weapon. The blood is on my hands as much as my client's, but I need to be there on the front lines.''And who was to say Enma Arashi couldn't be one such person? The deal seemed beneficial to her. If she gave her blade to a complete amateur she would hardly be able to get any helpful data back, but someone who was trained on the other hand? He could become her most promising customer yet. For Enma, he would receive a top of the line sword, the best that she could offer, all for the low price of nothing. His response puzzled her, did his quirk affect swords? ''How so?'' What a fascinating twist of fate. If anything, it made her more eager to craft something for him. ''This is related to your powers?'' She looked down at Raiju, then smirked and bowed her head politely. ''The honor is all mine. If I can make something that is befitting of your power, to find a suitable wielder for a sword, it's a weaponsmith's greatest pleasure.''enma

She felt like a grandmother listening to her granddaughter harp on about some new fangled slang that was entirely foreign to her, but Jun seemed excited to she just nodded along. Whatever Baeber was it clearly meant a lot to Jun, at least in the moment. Masao didn't mind at all that Jun was so fixated on being in the moment, it was probably easier than thinking about the past and getting into all sorts of... Feelsy, sappy stuff. ''I suppose that is a valid point. One does not need practical experience to be aware of basic concepts.''She got a little nervous when Jun swayed on her feet, but thankfully she didn't trip over herself. She couldn't help but hesitate, looking at the mess they had created together. With a small sigh she brushed it aside. She could clean it once Jun had fallen asleep and apologize to whoever tried to use the common kitchen next. ''I will gladly accompany you.'' She said, following Jun on whatever crazy journey she was about to take her on. ''However, I do not have a boyfriend. As I previously mentioned I do not have time for such things as romance or companionship.'' She was very firm on that point. No romance, no secret romance, in fact there was no romance in her life at all and it was going to stay that way! She was going to grow old, retire and never be married, never date, never any of that. ''Could it be that what you mean to say is that you have a boyfriend that you want to talk about?''junsuina

''There is no need to be so formal.'' She put on the tiniest of smirks to appear more casual, but to most people her expression hardly changed. ''I simply felt it necessary to provide you with the proper context pertaining to my request.'' She was even a little surprised that he was so formal, most students were a lot more lax about it. Ylva Riis could learn a thing or two or hundred from Enma Arashi. ''I see.'' Her eyes lit up a bit, now this was a rarity. ''Weapons hold significance in your family too, perhaps for much longer than it has in mine. What a pleasant surprise, I did not expect to come across an expert by happenstance.''It wasn't uncommon for her to be ridiculed by the occasional comment that swords, spears, axes, they were all archaic and relics of the past. People who believed that weapons forged from steel couldn't possibly match up to guns, bombs or vehicles. To meet someone such as Enma, someone who much like herself was dedicated to the weapons of old wasn't something she saw every day. In a way, even though they had just met, it made campus feel a little smaller, in a good way. ''What it means to make a katana?'' She blinked her eyes and pondered the question for a moment. ''I have made countless weapons. I was being brought into the workshop before I was old enough to walk. Making weapons is a serious matter, each one of them has a soul and a story.'' Or at least that was what her parents had instilled in her. ''I'm curious about the answer you were looking for. What does it mean?'' She waited patiently for his answer, curious to hear the essence of his truth. ''Actually, seeing as you are familiar with swords, Arashi-san, I would like to make one more request of you.'' She bowed her head politely. ''If you could test this sword, this new model that I'm making, I would be in your debt.'' She would star to collect the papers. ''Naturally, you would get to keep it too, should it spark your interest.''enma

''Tradition you say? Kanjo-san, pray tell, how many of these sleepovers have you partaken in?'' She wasn't odd for not knowing these things, for not having grown up with these experiences. Friends, a social circle, people she could rely on... Was she? She had always known she wasn't the best at making friends, but Jun was starting to make her realize just how much of a weirdo she was. Then again, how much of it was Masao herself, and how much of it was the way she was raised? She couldn't say for sure, all she knew was that despite barely talking to anyone on campus, the students at UAU was the closest she had ever gotten to other people so far. ''Indeed, we lead busy lives.'' She pondered the whole situation for a moment, getting kind of lost in thought as she wondered what Jun's upbringing might have been like, and how and where the two of them differed. ''...Baeber?'' She looked at Jun, stoic, but ever so slightly dumbfounded. ''I do not know of this Baeber knight you speak of.'' She paused for a moment, maybe she should just come out and explain it all to Jun. How much would she retain in her current state? She had no idea, but it was worth a try. ''My quirk, my armor, is considered a sign that you are fit to lead the Ando family. It has been passed down in my family since the genesis of quirks as we know them. Similarly, whoever has the armor, must inherit the hero name, Paragon. What type of knight that is, I cannot simply explain to you, but in a sense this name is built on its own kind of tradition.''junsuina

This one didn't waste any time. Perfect, if his manner of speech was always this efficient then she would surely get a satisfactory answer out of him. ''Arashi-san.'' She didn't recognize him, he probably wasn't the type to go looking for attention. ''As you can no doubt see, I am in the middle of a project.'' She gestured at the various papers and schematics around them. ''A weapon series, robust and flexible enough to cut it in the line of hero work. Mere guns or bombs will pale in comparison to these blades.''She couldn't help but notice the wrapped Raiju on his back, but she didn't say anything. ''Forgive me for not providing you with the proper context.'' She bowed her head gracefully. ''The Ando name is intrinsically tied to heroism and weapon making. We've been a family of weaponsmiths and heroes since the very genesis of the Heroes Association, hence my current field of study.'' She picked up a schematic, a rough sketch for a katana with a fiery red blade and handed it to Enma. ''Put simply, what are your thoughts on the design? Don't hold back, say anything that comes to mind. I can't help but notice that you appear to already be familiar with blades yourself too.'' She glanced at Raiju once more. She gave him some time to look over the schematics while she started cleaning up and gathering all the papers she had scattered on one of the desks. ''The materials required to create the weapons will be arriving next week. As you can imagine that makes my rather spontaneous request quite urgent in nature.''enma

She was being pushed to her absolute limit, fighting with a ferocity and anger she usually kept under lock and key, but Ylva was too good at pushing her buttons. ''Do you think yourself much better? All this time your ice has been doing the talking for you. We utilize our quirks to get ahead in this career, that's how things work. You of all people should be acutely aware of that.'' She was almost relieved when the walls separated the arena in two. She could hardly recognize herself at the moment and she didn't want both Kei and Michael to see her losing her cool like this. She respected the both of them too much. She took a step forward, but quickly backed off again when she realized the path that had once been available to her was now severely limited thanks to the ice constructs. Instead, she took a moment to listen to Ylva... Her legacy? What burden could a brute like Ylva be carrying around that justified the way she acts? No. There was no way to justify what Ylva Riis what. The anger overwhelmed her once more and when Ylva charged forward, she did too, hellbent on meeting her halfway. All the pent-up anger, the frustrations, the self-hatred, self-doubt, and countless days and nights she had tried to help Ylva become a better student, it was all boiling over and distilling into one single objective. She was going to beat the shit out of Ylva Riis. ''What you call 'ambition' is a fool's game!'' To prove Ylva wrong, she would even let go of her quirk. Once they got close enough, Masao turned off her armor, hoping to catch her roommate by surprise as she threw out her jab a little faster, attempting to punch Ylva in the face.
