She gave a soft nod. ''That is correct. The armor quirk has been passed down in my family through the years.'' She was a bit surprised someone like him knew that. It wasn't she was like especially talented or a celebrity or anything like that. What he said next kind of took her by surprise. ''Avoid getting hit, but, Lawbringer, does that not defeat the purpose of a defensive quirk?'' Maybe she just couldn't think ahead, or maybe she was too young to get it, but what he said seemed to run counter to everything she had told herself during training. ''Yes, while I am indeed in the support class first and foremost, I believe it is my duty as a future hero to train and prepare myself for real combat. I don't plan to get a desk job by the end of my studies, I want to take to the streets myself. Face evil head-on.'' Despite her inexperience there was a fire in her voice, a burning desire to become someone who could help a lot of people. ''Time off?'' She looked blinked her eyes, looking at him, then over at the other students in the field. ''Lawbringer,'' she smirked, ''surely you jest, I do not have time for time off. When I am not studying I am forging, when I am not forging I am training. I'll have time off the day I grow old and retire.''He was joking... Right? Surely a professional like him, and such an esteemed hero had worked hard to get to where he was. Lawbringer

She was glad that, despite the difference in their journey, how he was a much more capable fighter than her he still wanted to train with her. She was used to making bad first impressions by now, but maybe she had gotten better somewhere along the way? ''I feel honored, Arashi-san. I will gladly take you up on that offer. In a similar vein, the door to my workshop is always open.'' She paused for a moment. ''Except when I'm not here myself.'' She added with a small smirk. ''You noticed?'' She let out a small chuckle. ''I would expect nothing less of the great Helsing. The sword is weighted, but I assumed that would be no problem for you.'' Not because she had looked at his muscles and remembered them or anything! It was just- it was to help him! To get a better sword, one suited to his build, that's all it was! ''I will leave the task of naming the katana to you, its sole wielder.''What he said next surprised her a bit. ''Something for me?'' She blinked her eyes, keeping her smile as she looked at him. This wasn't their arrangement, but she was curious what he was talking about. Hopefully it wasn't money. The sword was a gift, but at the same time she would feel bad turning down an offer of payment. ''By all means.'' She didn't know what to expect, but knowing him it was something thoughtful. She definitely did not expect a gorgeous art piece. Unraveling the scroll slowly, her jaw dropped once she saw what, or who it was depicting. ''E-Enma... Arashi-san! This is..'' She swiftly corrected herself, her face growing redder than her hair. ''It's stunning... You made this for me?'' She had received birthday gifts before and the like, but never anything that felt this personal. ''It's...'' She smiled, she couldn't help it, ''you leave me at a loss for words.'' Her heart beat fast again, like she was in the middle of a fight, except there was no fight to speak of. She looked over at Enma. Did he turn around because he was embarrassed? ''Th-Thank you.'' She rolled the scroll back together very gently. ''I'll cherish this gift. Finding a place to display a piece of art of such beauty and craftsmanship will prove quite the welcome challenge.'' She bowed formally, smiling at him. Wait, how did they carry on from here? Oh right! ''U-Um, there's another function to your new katana, but it is best demonstrated when you swing it. How about we go outside so you can test it?'' This warmth in her cheeks, it didn't seem to fade. Was her face red? Hopefully not too red. Oh no, even just thinking about it made her flush even more. ''I have a sword I need to test too.'' She plucked a large rose from off the counter. ''I call this one 'Rosaria','' The hilt and guard was designed to make it look like a rose, but at will, Masao activated a mechanism in the sword that made a blade shoot out of the top. ''The blade is retractable, making it easier to carry, as well as a potential surprise weapon.''Once they made their way out to the training fields she indicated a couple of training dummies she had set up. ''Sharp to the touch, your katana cuts with the efficiency expected of the weapon, however, there is another secret component to it. I encourage you to try it out and see if you can find it, Arashi-san.'' If she was being too cryptic she could just tell him, but something told her he was the type of guy who liked to learn by doing. enma

With some extra time on her hands she wasn't sure what to do next. She had finished his sword, finished making a sword for herself as well. Study, perhaps? No... For some reason she couldn't focus, not when she was waiting for him to show up. Sure, she could read a line or two but her thoughts soon drifted to that morning where they first crossed swords, to that first time she saw him in the classroom. Funny. Usually when she thought of others it was either out of resentment, or someone she was dreading to see, like her roommate Ylva. Enma occupied a positive space in her mind. She never knew such a thing existed. Maybe somewhere along the way, she had found the key to making a friend, and why people seemed so obsessed with relying on others. When she saw his text she couldn't help but smile. How had his day been? Still training as always or was the constant stream of homework getting to him? Hopefully he was making sure to eat healthy every day. As she passed it, she paused in front of the mirror of her workshop and squinted at her own reflection. Was something off about her hair today? Maybe she would look better wearing it down instead of having it up in a ponytail. When he arrived she turned to face him, smiling. ''Arashi-san, welcome. Please by all means let yourself in, I am not so busy that I cannot make time for you.'' She was never going to tell him that she had actually just been polishing clean tools just now to pretend like she was working while he came in here. ''And what wonderful timing! The most skilled swordsman in all of UAU stepping foot inside my workshop just as his new sword has been finished.'' She turned and picked up the display the sword had been placed on, still leaving it obscured by a white piece of cloth. ''Whenever you're ready,'' she indicated the piece of cloth with her hand. ''feel free to take a look.'' Her heart was beating faster. She really wanted him to like this. Normally when forging weapons she knew when to call it quits, but Enma had really brought out the perfectionist in her. Once the katana was revealed, vibrant colors would take center stage in her ordinary workshop. A beautiful crimson blade, inspired by his fiery spirit, and own red eyes shone. The sea of crimson roses that she still thought about, whether she was in the middle of class or in the middle of training. Accompanying the blade which was begging to take the spotlight, a black handle contrasted it perfectly to put the emphasis where it needed to be. Finally, the finishing touches she had spent far too long on, the tsuba consisted of a swirl of stars, signifying the great heights he was reaching for, and would no doubt achieve in his career as a future hero. ''I hope it is to your liking.'' She bowed respectfully. When she closed her eyes she thought back to that first goodnight text she received from him. She had been looking up at the starry night sky. She replied in kind, wishing him a goodnight too, but had her text come in too quickly? Doubt flooded her mind. Did friends usually text each other right away, or was she supposed to wait a bit? Meeting new people was so complicated... Hopefully Enma could forgive her lack of experience. The Ando family covered etiquette and mannerisms in a formal setting, but making friends, or hanging around her peers was hardly something she had been encouraged to do growing up. enma

Where normally she would get upset when her attacks didn't work, instead she slowed down and took a deep breath, turning every deflected blow into a lesson learned. When he pointed out weaknesses she made sure to take mental notes and correct her movement as much as she could. She wasn't going to become amazing at this in one day, but it was a start. ''I see...'' She replied, slightly out of breath. ''Cause and effect, moves and countermoves.'' Fights were dynamic and her opponent was constantly going to be moving around just like her. It wasn't enough to simply fight defensively, or lean fully into offense. She needed to be able to read Enma better. She only took a moment to catch her breath before she raised her training sword again. Smirking at him, her eyes shining with determination. Taking his advice to heart she continued to push herself, so much so that she didn't notice her hair tie coming undone, letting her red locks flow in the gentle breeze. Finally, she aimed for his chest, trying a similar strike to the one he swung at her earlier. ''Tire? I appreciate the sentiment, Arashi-san.'' She was sweating, her vision was getting blurry, but she had to keep going. ''But I do not... Tire...'' She tried to keep her sword raised, but eventually had to collapse, falling onto the ground. Her entire body was impossibly sore. She more tired from this one sparring match than from her usual full day training routine. ''How about...'' She panted, pushing herself up into a sitting position. ''Some water, Arashi-san?'' She smiled up at him, truly grateful not just for this opportunity to learn, but to get to know him too. enma

Failure was nothing short of unacceptable, it always had been. Ever since childhood she had never been good enough, it all started when she was born a girl, as the boys of the Ando family were expected to inherit the family business. That was why her father raised her as a boy, but she still wasn't good enough. Failure wasn't something she learned through, it was something she actively feared. If I'm not perfect, then what am I? What will people think when I fail? Am I going to grow old and die with regrets? Those thoughts haunted her, fueled her to become better, but they weren't productive or healthy, they were actively holding her back. She fully expected him to give up on her. To lay down his sword and call it there. She could continue to create weapons for him, but as a fighter she was a nobody. She had learned as much from the Sports Festival arena too. She blinked her eyes when he changed his stance rather than put down his weapon. Somehow, she couldn't help but meet his smirk with her own, his energy was that infectious. ''If that is your wish then...'' She raised her sword again, once more assuming the only stance that she had learned. ''Thank you, Arashi-san.''She was running straight into a beatdown, and yet the look in his eyes was soft, inviting, trusting. ''Then I will show you everything that I've got!'' Following his advice, she pushed her body even further this time, sending out a flurry of strikes in an attempt to hit him. Before she was fighting with hesitation, fighting like she was afraid to get hurt. Now, she was going to fight with vigor and with passion. She was going to keep fighting him until she dropped. Through all of it, a single word he had just said played on repeat through her mind. ''Masao.''Usually she corrected people that tried to call her by her first name, but there was something about the way he said it that made it sound nice. enma

He was fast, strong... Too strong. She had to actively suppress the urge to activate her armor. Donning the armor could mean the difference between life and death. If this was a real battle, she would most likely already have sustained terrible injuries. Fighting him without her quirk was a mistake, but she also couldn't rely on her quirk to do all the work. No, the better question wasn't whether she should follow the advice of her father and use her quirk, why was she losing her cool? Through every match, every exercise, every fight, every assignment she always managed to keep her cool. What was so different about Enma? Why did it feel like a storm of emotions were whirling inside of her? Predictably, he saw her attack coming from a mile away and responded faster than her eyes could comprehend. When his elbow hit her arm she flinched from the pain, almost losing her grip on her sword as she had to clutch a hand over where she was struck, forcing her to wield it one-handed. ''You saw right through me.'' She smirked through the pain, still refusing to lower her weapon despite her current predicament. She was hoping that she could catch him if she just focused, but once again he moved faster than her and before she knew it the tip of his Bokken was already pointed at her, essentially forcing the fight to end then and there. She looked down at the training sword with a mix of shock and amazement. She expected to lose, but not so soundly. ''You have made the difference in our skills abundantly clear.'' She let out a small sigh and lowered her sword. ''If you were expecting something more, then I am sorry, Arashi-san.'' She looked away for a moment as she gathered her thoughts. ''However, if you give me time, I will grow much stronger. I may not be strong now, but I am serious about this.''It was hard to face the reality that she wasn't good enough, but if she always let her pride get in the way, then she was never going to be worthy of her armor. ''Arashi-san, if you allow me to continue training with you then I promise that I will soon match your potential, or perhaps even exceed it.'' She bowed formally. It was a stupid, selfish request, she felt weak for trying to rely on someone else like this. enma

''Your grandfather was a wise man.'' From the sounds of it he prepared Enma for situations like this all his life. It was eerily familiar to her own upbringing, except there was a bigger emphasis on creating weapons rather than wielding them. She had received training, sure, but she was stepping onto the battlefield of her own volition. She believed that no weaponsmith could truly know what it felt like to create a weapon if they hadn't wielded one first. Hearing his name and the reasoning for it made her excited. ''Helsing? Very well.'' She could feel it, she wanted to stand there by his side. Fight tyranny and make the world a better place together, but was she truly worthy of such an honor? Maybe she was just hyping the spar up to be more than it was, but she couldn't help but feel a lot was riding on her performance here. ''Is that so? Your secret is safe with me.'' She smiled, steeling her mind for the fight ahead. ''Personally, I have an appreciation for The Count of Monte Cristo.''Just from a cursory glance she couldn't see any flaws in his stance. He was calm, collected and ready. She had expected him to parry or deflect her blow, but the speed with which he was moving almost startled her. Wood struck wood and soon she found herself taking a step backwards as she just barely managed to guard herself from his follow-up strike. The blow itself almost making her slip. She had only made one attack and she was already put on the defensive. There was a clear disparity between them, but she didn't feel scared. If anything, it made her want to work even harder. ''Impressive, Arashi-san.'' She kept her sword pressed up against his, already struggling a bit. ''Your stance is flawless and your reflexes are immaculate. I can tell that you take your training very seriously.'' With her next move, she angled her sword and tried to stab, or rather catch him with a quick jab. At this point she knew she wasn't going to give him much of a challenge, but her pride left her unable to back down. At the very least, she would give him an honorable fight, and more importantly, the best that she had. enma

''I would expect nothing less of a man dedicated to the sword.'' She smirked, taking his words at face value. Even if he didn't get enough rest it wasn't like she was just able to tell. Not because she didn't look at him or well... She hadn't taken a close look at least. Besides it was rude to stare, and she didn't want to make him uncomfortable. ''It would be an honor.'' She half-turned to get the wooden swords. As a weaponsmith, nothing made her happier than her weapons being put to use, even these rudimentary training swords needed to see the light of the Sun every now and then. ''You? A monster?'' She was about to let out a chuckle, but paused for a moment when she turned back and noticed how close he was standing to her. Maybe it was just her imagination, but his eyes looked different up close, a vibrant, crimson color, like a field of roses. ''R-Right..'' She cleared her throat and looked away to hide the warmth that was flooding into her cheeks. The oddest thing was that her heart was beating faster too, but she hadn't broken a sweat yet. Was she this nervous to face him, or was it something else? ''You referred to me as Paragon, my hero name.'' She handed him one of the swords with the handle facing him. ''I realize I neglected to inquire about your hero name. You have my sincerest apologies, Arashi-san.'' She bowed her head formally. ''May I ask, what is your hero name?''Enma... A monster? If it could improve both of her sparring experiences, perhaps she would need to look past his exterior. He neither looked nor acted like a monster after all. ''Prepare yourself.'' She said calmly, assuming a dignified fighting stance that gave away not only that she had been taught by private trainers, but clearly came from a privileged background. Striking out, she started by swinging for Enma's shoulder, a simple strike meant to test him even if he was gauging her level of skill. enma

She smiled when she received his text and for a second she considered texting him back, but her thumb was left hovering over the phone display, unsure, hesitating. While she waited her thoughts drifted, thinking of family and home. No matter what she did she was never enough. It was her third year at UAU and she hadn't managed to make the Andos proud once. Not with her smithing skills, her ability to utilize a weapon, or use the armor she had been born with. All of that would change soon. She had to believe that it would, that Enma could help her make some kind of breakthrough. It was ultimately selfish, but she hoped that they would both reach their goals by helping each other. ''Plenty indeed, you said you wouldn't go easy on me so I figured I would need it. And yourself?'' She had felt awake before, but seeing him here it was like she felt a rush go through her body. She was going to train with someone, not begrudgingly, or out of obligation, she was going to train with someone she actually liked being around. One of the first things she took note of as she started stretching was that he was surprisingly muscular. That shouldn't really surprise her all things considered, but his jacket did a good job hiding it. The scars too... She didn't want to stare, but she couldn't help but feel a bit concerned. How did he get those? Raiju wasn't especially damaged so she assumed Enma hadn't been in that many fights, but she could be entirely wrong. Nevertheless, in case the scars were a sensitive topic she decided not to comment on them. Communicating emotions had never been her strong suit and she had a feeling she wasn't going to become an expert today. ''A sparring match sounds ideal. While I know my way around the forge I am merely a novice with the sword. Even so, I hope I can make you break a sweat.'' She smirked, finishing up her own stretches. She had chosen to wear her UAU gym uniform which gave her a more androgynous look, not that a dress would have done her much good on the battlefield either way. ''I see you brought bokken as well.'' She couldn't help but smile at the fact that they both came prepared. ''Back when I first started wielding a blade my parents got me a private teacher. He always said that it is wise to choose the bokken first over real swords.'' Although truthfully, she didn't mind going with a real sword. ''At least until the combatants know each other well.''enma

Finally, after a week's hard work she managed to complete Enma's new sword. It was her first commission in a while, although calling it a commission was generous since she had offered to make one for him, getting caught up in the moment. She had never made a sword for someone based on a first meeting without them asking first, but she had a good feeling about him, and didn't regret it for a second. Putting the finishing touches on the new sword she let it sit on display for a moment, inspecting it from multiple angles until she was sure she was satisfied. She had ensured him that she would make him a weapon of the finest quality, so anything less would be a stain on her pride as a weaponsmith. Aesthetically and structurally, the blade was up to code. What she wasn't sure about, the unpredictable element in all this was Enma's quirk. How was it going to react to him? It was one of those things she simply couldn't predict, and they hadn't had the time to have him test on the prototypes, so today would have to be the big testing day. The first time he got to hold a proper weapon made by her. Taking out her phone she dialed his number. If he didn't pick up she would resort to leaving him a voice message. ''Arashi-san, this is Masao.'' She kept introducing herself by name just in case her voice wasn't recognizable. ''Your new sword is finished and waiting for you at my workshop. Whenever you have the time you are more than welcome to stop by, I'll be in here working for most of the day.'' She glanced at the calendar that hung on her wall one more time, just to make sure she was free. ''If today doesn't work we can schedule a time and date as well.'' She smirked, her voice softening just a bit as she put a piece of cloth over the sword to hide it for now. ''I'm sure the hero course is keeping you busy.'' She paused for an awkward few seconds, her face turning red as she realized she didn't know how to end the call. She was used to being business formal and never smiling. ''Um... That is all I wanted to say, thank you for your time.'' She ended the call a bit stilted, letting out a sigh once she had hung up, burying her face in the palm of her hand. ''Thank you for your time?'' She repeated to herself, shaking her head gently. Although it was true she had finished Enma's sword, she had also worked on a model for herself. The swords looked nothing alike, with Masao's own being much simpler in design, but it would serve her for the time being and she could potentially bring it with her to their morning sparring matches going forward. Suddenly her eyes widened. ''Did I forget to tell him which room my workshop is in?'' Surely she couldn't just expect him to wander the support labs until he found it. She took out her phone and hastily messaged the room number, apologizing afterwards, followed by a bowing emoji for emphasis. enma

She always started her morning routines early, but today she made sure to get up extra early to make sure she was in peak physical condition for the training session ahead of her. Usually she would be going for a jog at this hour, but something unusual had happened the other day. Enma Arashi, a fellow student and a swordsman on a Journey had met her by chance in one of UAU's classrooms. She immediately saw his potential and offered to make him a sword, an offer which he graciously accepted. What she didn't expect was that she didn't only get a new customer, but a sparring partner as well. Making her way to the physical education grounds she had made sure to stock up, carrying a couple of water bottles for each of them and swords, training or real depending on what he preferred to use. Putting her stuff down she opened up her phone and looked at his name in her contact lists, a list consisting of less than 10 people, and that was including family members. She thought about what to text him for a moment before she started typing away. ''I'm here.''''...This is Masao.''It was a simple message, but it conveyed what she wanted it to. Hitting send she put her phone away, tying her hair up so that it wouldn't get in her eyes. Not that having long hair hindered her skill as a combatant, but she still remembered his words from the other day. If he truly wasn't going to hold back, then she needed to work harder not just to make a good first impression in combat, but to be a worthy opponent for him. Once she spotted Enma, whether he arrived before or after her she would give him a formal bow. ''Good morning, Arashi-san. It is great to see you again so soon, I hope today's training proves most useful.''enma

A girls night... Masao would be lying if she said she wasn't a bit terrified. She had been to plenty of parties before, the recent yacht party came to mind, but in those she could always blend in with the rest of the crowd. To her understanding, girls night wasn't going to be quite as packed, and to make matters worse it was a social battlefield one of which she wasn't accustomed to. Ask her to pick up a weapon and train with you and she was in her element. Ask her to craft the finest sword and she would bring you nothing short of the best you had ever laid your eyes on. But this? A girls night fully of girly things? She was hesitant to go at first, but maybe this was exactly the kind of event she needed to change and grow? She had been making choices out of desperation for too long. She knew that going into the hero industry as complete loner, without any connections, wasn't a winning strategy. She thought back to her recent conversation with Jun and after a quick talk with Misaki that was all she needed to make up her mind. She didn't know Julienne or Yaoyao, she barely even knew Jun, but that was all going to change tonight. She hadn't really spoken to Ylva since they punched each other in the Sports Festival arena, but she offered the brute to make her a weapon to further sweeten the deal of going to the girls night. Walking into the common room with two items in hand, Masao handed one of them, a bottle of red wine to Julienne. ''Lémieux-san, thank you for the invitation, please accept this gift. I wasn't sure if you partake in the consumption of alcohol, but in the Ando family it is customary to gift the host a bottle of wine as thanks.'' She bowed her head formally. In her other hand she was holding a sheathed sword, ready to defend the party against any potential villains that might come to ambush them. Grabbing a drink for herself she went to take a seat on the couch. ''You certainly went all-out for the occasion... What is the occasion exactly?'' She looked around at the various briefcases as she took out her phone. 𝕐 + 𝕐, Julienne Lémieux, Takanashi Misaki. junsuina, Ylva Riis

What was it like to be raised among swordsmen and poets? They shared a common interest, but she couldn't help but be fascinated with his mindset and the way he carried himself. She wanted to know more about him and not just because he was a client getting a sword commissioned. ''You truly have a way with words.'' So much so that it left her at a loss for words for once. ''If your skills with the blade is as seamless as your poetry I have no doubt that you are a formidable sparring partner.'' She didn't correct him for once when he bowed formally. After all she was raised on similar formalities so in a way it felt like home. ''Is that so?'' She smirked, feeling a little thump in her chest as her green eyes met his crimson own. When was the last time she had actually been excited to spar with someone? ''Fortunately I am a morning person. And I would expect no less from you, Arashi-san. The feeling is mutual. If we want to reach for the top then there is little sense in holding back.'' Even though she wasn't much of a fighter yet, perhaps that was about to change. This timing, her meeting Enma Arashi, it couldn't be more fortunate. This time she was the one who was completely oblivious of the implication when it came to exchanging numbers. Most of the time she didn't give out her number, mostly because she didn't have many friends, didn't go on dates, and usually told people she was making weapons for to meet her at her workshop. With Enma it simply made sense to exchange numbers if they were to train together frequently. ''Perfect.'' She smirked, typing it into her phone before sending him a simple text that consisted of an emoji with two swords crossed. ''I sent you a text so that you have my number in turn.'' She put her phone away and picked up her stack of papers and schematics. ''I have to get going for now, but I will stay in touch.'' She bowed formally before walking towards the door, stopping in the doorframe to look back at him. ''I will look forward to crossing swords with you tomorrow, Arashi-san.''enma

Her body was still sore from her own matches but she wasn't going to miss the opportunity to witness a match put on by her peers. There was valuable information she could learn from studying others, and as a manufacturer it was good to be in the know about the students on the hero course. Besides, she had a feeling if she went to the spectator area there was a good chance she wouldn't bump into Ylva and at least so far that appeared to be true. She had never gotten that mad on camera before, or even in front of a crowd, and while her pride may have taken a hit she had to move past it. Find a way to grow and learn from this event. With the match about to start, Masao couldn't help but be intrigued by the two competitors. One was Junsuina Kanjo, which came as a surprise to her. Following the events of Dream World she thought for sure that Jun may be too out of it to compete, but that did not appear to be the case. Perhaps that only highlighted how little she knew about her. Similarly, she didn't know much about Kurokami Gen, other than he had a dramatic flair about him as she saw months ago. That, and the specifics of his quirk remained a mystery to her. If he was going to use it here today, maybe she could learn something new from observing their match? When Gen made his entrance... Well yeah, that was to be expected of him. Once the match kicked into gear she pondered the opening move. ''Intriguing. Kanjo-san's quirk is of the versatile nature, yet her opening move is to run at her opponent with a hammer. At a first glance it appears flawed, but there is no telling what her battle plan is.''Farrin, 🆁🅴🅼, 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐲
