Michael Faraday
What Was Expected
Michael came in and took his seat. It had been quite the struggle after the equipment exhibition he had struggled through. Not having access to his quirk and relying on unfamiliar gadgetry had proved difficult to help and protect as many people as he wanted to. Ideally he would have been able to prevent anyone from getting hurt. He hadn't really cared that much to get to the top of the mountain as instructed...
The doctor was doing their best to make Michael and Gen comfortable before the conversation they needed to have. Gen was very clearly against this whole interaction and from his body language was already uncomfortable with Michael's presence. Michael could understand that feeling, he was not particularly thrilled to be in Kurokami-senpai's presence... Michael had been spending a lot of his free time after the event checking on and helping the people that had been injured in Gen's performance on the mountain. Michael also felt bad because he hadn't really had an opportunity to apologize again for punching Gen to try knocking him out. As effective as knocking someone unconscious is for incapacitating them, it's not really good for their brain. Michael hadn't seen him at the infirmary while checking on other students, so he hoped that Kurokami had gotten the treatment needed.
From the doctor's words it seemed Kurokami was well-known among the UAU Faculty and their tone definitely made it seem that this was a common occurrence. Gen was rather nonchalant about the whole affair. He seemed to feel more annoyed by this conversation than the fact that he had tried to seriously injure many students and succeeded with a few. But he did bring up a point... it wasn't good but it was valid. The event was meant to be a competition, regardless of how Michael had approached it, Kurokami-senpai was doing what was asked of him.
"Kurokami-senpai is right." Michael said, surprisingly agreeing with his dangerous schoolmate. "The whole point of the event was to showcase the gear supplied to us and get to the peak. While his use of the equipment was reckless and malicious, it was within the structure of the competition. While he can be faulted for making less of an effort to reach the goal, his unheroic behavior is justified by the requirements."
Michael had been struggling with the fact that his own approach to the event was diametrically opposed to Gen's but was equally as misguided. Michael hadn't been focused on the goal. He went out of his way for the safety and accession of his peers rather than completing the mission. Both Michael and Gen had been focused on everything but their objective. While arguably it is a good thing to try to keep people safe, if the mission calls for drastic action or devout focus on achieving the objective, Michael would have failed just as badly as Kurokami had.
"Kurokami-senpai shouldn't have had access to such technology if he wasn't expected to use it. And if the engineers hadn't seen the negative features that their gadget could have exploited, its good they see now just how dangerous such equipment can be in the hands of someone so desperate." Michael turned to Gen and said, "No offense..."
Michael was still deeply certain that Gen only acted out of fear, and to so enthusiastically use such dangerous items on his fellow students, Gen must be hiding significant fear and trauma.
Notes & Tags: Kurokami Gen | Yanai Hebiru TLDR: Michael actually feels that Gen acted within the rules of the event and that he had just acted out because of his fear and trauma with dangerous technology for someone as desperate as he was

Ready to Spar
Michael held back a grimace from the memories of that class. It had been rather rough and one-sided but it wasn't like he could expected them to go easy on them just because they were inexperienced. That was more or less the point of the whole class. People would be counting on them in the future as heroes, so they were needing to be able to step up. That in mind though, Michael was not pleased by the amount and severity of injuries that his fellow students endured. He had taken quite the beating from all of it and his quirk allowed for much more resistance against most of the hazards. But the worst of it was that the class had practically expected and encouraged him to have abandoned the other classmates. Michael had had a growing contempt with the school seemingly encouraging unheroic behavior. He did his best to endure and put on a positive "face" but he questioned why professional heroes and teachers seemed more invested in personal achievement rather than helping people.
Michael ignored the intrusive thoughts and did his best to think it was all for a reason. To endure the hardships of the real world of heroics in a safer and less demanding environment so they wouldn't lose faith and morals out in the field.
"No need to worry, you did a great job out there. We need to be prepared for whatever the world throws at us." Michael beamed brightly behind his latex face.
Michael was mildly embarrassed by Jun's comment on his performance in the class. "I was just doing what I could for us to succeed... or at least survive there." He chuckled, since they were clearly not expected to succeed. "I'm fine with going all out. Just nothing lethal. We can go until tap out or knock out."
Michael wasn't looking to put his everything into fighting, it just wasn't in his nature. Restraint was so ingrained in his being his punches were literal airbags. Through avoidance and flexibility he could wear down his adversary and then take them out quickly and as gently as possible. Which would work fine if he was facing a peer, but with someone with far more experience like Jun, Michael knew this would be good practice of applying this approach against stronger opponents without needing to compromise his morality.
Michael stepped a little bit back and took a stance from the Aikido he'd been studying for a little while. He was no where near as good as his mother, but it proved to be a more appropriate martial art for him than some of the more brutal styles his father learned back from his days as a hero.
"Ready when you are." Michael announced, letting her set the pace.

Uncertain Introductions
Michael was pleased to receive notice of an upperclassman looking to speak with him. Michael wasn't quite sure who they were from their request as he believed he hadn't met them yet, but he was always happy to meet new friends. Due to the invitation asking to meet at the PE grounds, Michael assumed that some kind of physical activity or training was going to be expected, so he dressed in his gym clothes and headed off at the requested time.
Despite the appeared lack of lips, Michael whistled a tune merrily to himself as he made his way towards Jun, or at least whom he presumed to be Jun. He was correct to not recognize her, as he had been on the receiving end her overwhelming force during class. Still Michael was very friendly towards the supposed stranger. "Hello, Kanjo-senpai! It's nice to meet you. I am Michael Faraday, thought I suppose you already knew that since you were the one to invite me out here." Michael laughed lightly feeling a little awkward from his introduction.

Light in the Storm
Despite the unfortunate use of force, Michael was relieved that Gen was finally calmed... unconscious but he'd have to take that. Michael looked back towards the mountain side. It was far too late to be able to make any kind of progress back up the side. It was almost disheartening to think that he had failed the objective. He felt a churn of disappointment in his stomach as this wasn't the first mission or class he had "failed" due to focusing on the safety of others. It hadn't discouraged him from trying to protect or help others, it made him just push himself all the harder to become stronger and better so that he could someday accomplish both the task required and maintaining the safety of others... He wasn't there yet and Gen's antics had showed just how glaringly obvious that was...
However, despite the distance, Michael noticed something that managed to lift his spirits. There was many competitors that had managed to reach the summit of the mountain. Even with the attacks from Gen's airship and the chaotic environment, it seemed a decent number of people had made it to the top. Michael smiled to himself, taking solace in the fact that he may have paved enough of a way and withheld enough dangers for so many to have succeeded. While he had failed to reach the peak, he took this as a small victory.
Michael felt a swell of misguided appreciation for what Gen had done. Without his zeppelin blasting up the mountain side, there might have been a more desperate struggle for everyone to try to reach the top first. If the blimp was just ONE of the gadgets in this event, imagine the destructive power if everyone was attempting to harm each other with such items. But with Gen setting a singular but universal antagonistic force, it allowed people to stand up against that danger and even work together or accept help from their fellow competitors just to get through it. Maybe that was what Gen was attempting all along, to play the villain to keep the heroes on path. A dangerous gambit, but they were seeking a dangerous career as heroes, so a necessary one.
The timer reached zero and the roar of the storm pelting the mountain was replaced with celebratory noise and confetti. The event was over. A new function on their inventory control appeared to allow them to exit. It was unclear if he had just awoken or if he had just been playing possum but Gen suddenly spoke up from Michael's grip.
"You lose... Michael." Gen said as he managed to press the button and vanished away. Michael looked back towards the mountain top as Windfall's speech was announced for the competitors and viewers. Michael smiled warmly to himself and rose up his inventory device.
Before pressing down on his EXIT button to be teleported from the arena, he spoke softly and confidently to himself: "Plus Ultra."

Floating By
Michael began to think intently about how they could get across. From how the vehicles sped by, it didn't seem they had a rhythm or pattern to them, so it would just depend on timing and faith to jump from lane to lane while avoiding getting hit as they would need to cross to the other side. It probably wasn't a great idea to try going at it alone, as with the fast moving obstacles coming from both directions, they would be able to count on each other by taking watch of each direction and trusting each other when they needed to move forward or even back. Even then it was a gamble if they would make it over.
However Momo went with a more abrupt choice and just booked it. Before Michael even knew she had started, she was sprinting across the road and for the river, split second timing in her favor as she leapt from the pavement and landed her way onto a log floating along the current. As a person that was filled with literal gas, Michael never felt so breathless before. He audibly gasped in some air as it sunk in that she had made it more than half way through with a desperate dash.
Michael was still reeling but he needed to get over to her to get her to keep going before the log would just float off into the tunnel it was drifting for. Inhaling sharply, Michael's body began to swell and literally balloon. He puffed up to the point he was actually floating in the air and began to bob his way over the dangerous highway and towards the multi-flowing river. Soon he was hovering above Momo, looking down over her like a round Michael-shaped weather balloon.
Michael was uncertain if his new friend would be able to make it across on her own. As lucky as she was, it was a risk he didn't want to take. Forcing as much gas to fill him as possible, Michael strained himself to inflate greater than he ever had before. Feeling like his muscles could give out at any moment, Michael grabbed up Momo as quickly as he could and began floating her over the parallel but opposite flowing currents. By the time he managed to float her to the other side, his body gave out on him and Michael collapsed to the floor. His whole body stung, but with Momo's help Michael crossed through the exit door.
Fortunately that was the final challenge for the day as their professor called for the end of class. Michael was so sore his limbs felt like limp noodles and it was difficult to even keep himself fully inflated. He said his goodbyes as friendly as possible before staggering back to his room to lay down and rest.

Ramen and Tea
"Right... of course." Michael said solemnly. He knew there was nothing he could do, and more nothing that he could offer that would be needed or wanted by her at this point. The world had eaten up the young girl that he knew and it wasn't his place or duty to save her. She had saved herself, at least as best as she could. "Well... Then at least let me treat you to this meal." Michael said with a soft singular laugh.
They had gone down distant parallel paths... but Michael didn't want this to be it. He didn't want to lose her friendship again. He didn't know the full extent of hardships she had to endure and knowing wouldn't change what had happened or what she needed from life now. She didn't need him to try rescuing her, so he could at least be there for her.
"Perhaps, I could treat you to a meal every couple of weeks and we could catch up. I'd like to see you more Kioko-chan." He said gently, leaving behind some of the childishness but still kept some level of familiarity.
Michael smiled as best he could to his old friend. They finished their meals and exchanged numbers before parting ways. It was uncertain if she had given him a fake number or not, but she had a way to contact him, so that was something. Michael wasn't sure if he'd ever see Kioko again. But he'd always leave the door open just in case she ever needed him.

Michael Faraday
For Your Own Good
Michael wasn’t dissuaded by Gen’s harsh reaction to him reaching out to help him. It was disappointing but maybe Gen just wasn’t cut out for the hero profession. It didn’t mean he was a bad guy, just that he made bad decisions and twisted choices. Gen was misguided in his way of thinking but with care and patience perhaps he could be rehabilitated. Why on earth would he have been accepted into such a prestigious hero school if the professors didn’t see the potential for good that Michael extended the courtesy of. Even with his dangerous attacks on the other competitors the school did not intervene, so Michael had to trust that he was right that there had to be some good in his upperclassmen that was being repressed.
However, Michael’s good faith was once again met with Gen’s cruel and destructive behavior. Using one hand to scale the mountain side did not leave Michael much in the ways of defense when Gen activated some personal gear to release a blast of compressed air against the mountain side. The blast was enough to push Michael’s grip on the rocky terrain loose and jettison them backwards. Michael felt bad for Gen, the way he struggled against assistance was like a feral animal, scared and desperate. Michael wrapped his other arm around Gen, holding him firmly to his body as Michael attempted to position them for Michael to take the brunt of the fall. The shield on his back would likely be more than capable of absorbing the impact, but if Gen got loose he could very well get hurt or whiplash from it.
“I gotcha.” Michael said confidently to the rapid little second year as they fell. Bouncing and skidding slightly from the collision of the drop on his shield, Michael kept his grip firm on Gen. When they came to a stop, Michael looked down at Gen and despite his faceless appearance beamed brightly down to him. “You alright?”
The fall was nothing compared to the bombs earlier, but it was clear that Gen was not going to accept Michael’s help easily and the storm above the mountain was only gonna get worse. “Hey, sorry about this ahead of time, but I promise I won’t leave you behind.” Michael said in a kindly statement that didn’t quite match the tone of what followed. Freeing the other hand that he wrapped around Gen, Michael delivered a hard and decisive punch to Gen’s head to try knocking him out. If he was unconscious, Gen would be much less of a danger to himself or others and Michael could carry him the rest of the way and hopefully reach the top without being TOO late.

Michael looked off towards the explosion. That was his fault... he should have been more assertive and charged in to stop the bombing rather than listening to Jack's plan. Because of his own amiable demeanor, Jack could very well be dead or very seriously injured. None of this made sense... why was this showcase only really showing the worse in the competitors? Jack's impulsive self-destructive behavior, Gen's dangerous and villainous nature, Michael's own lack of experience and capabilities...
Michael kept a firm grip on Gen, refusing to let him weasel free to use his dangerous equipment again. All the while Gen spewed out hateful vitriol like he was vomiting out pure poison. Snide jabs and twisted hypotheticals to try to pierce into the young balloon man's golden heart. Michael said nothing as Gen ridiculed, mocked and belittled him, keeping Gen pinned.
Michael kept his latex encapsulated face looking off towards the dissipating smoke from the bomb's explosion. As the smoke cleared and Gen finished his tirade, Michael finally looked down towards his violent classmate. "You know, while you have potential... you're a terrible villain." Michael said with a surprising gentleness as he stood up, forcing Gen to either stand in Michael's arm lock or be lifted like a hogtied animal. "If you actually tried to be creative and placid, you might have actually won this without needing to harm anyone. I'm sorry that you think you're too weak to do so, but you can do it. You don't need to be afraid. Strength doesn't come from the power needed to overcome an obstacle, it comes from facing the obstacle in the first place. I get that your scared, but I'll help you."
Not letting up on his hold, preventing Gen from using his gadgetry, Michael carried Gen up the side of the hill. "You're not alone, I'm here." Michael said with far more patience than Gen deserved, but he wasn't going to give up on the good in people even when buried deep under fear and anger. With only one arm available, he would still try to help anyone they crossed paths with, while maintaining his other arm's lock on Gen. Even without access to his quirk, he had plenty of flexibility and the knowledge of how to use that flexibility to disarm and detain someone. Gen would likely do more harm to himself than managing to break or slip loose of Michael's grip. Michael hoped no other dangers would rear up against the competitors. There had been enough pain for today.

Seeking to Help
Michael was quiet for a long beat. There wasn't any kind of way to ease that problem, that pain she went through. He couldn't count on his bright and can-do attitude to be able to lift her spirits, much less help her with such a problem. So the only thing he could do is focus on making sure she was okay and comfortable now, then maybe they could figure out what to do about all of that.
"Where are you staying? At the very least, my parents might be able to assure you have support for housing and supplies. We could go talk with them right now, I'm sure they would want to help." Michael suggested. Deep down he had a churn in his stomach wondering why this wasn't something his parents had told him. Why they weren't already doing something? Did they know about this? If they knew what was happening they would definitely helped... so why didn't they? Michael didn't want to leave his friend alone.
"I'm sure you can manage on your own... but I don't want you to have to face all of this by yourself... not any more. I can help, even if its just with small things."

Why'd The Balloon Cross the Road?
Michael was nearly yanked into the road from the sheer momentum of the speeding car that rushed by him. Luckily Momo grabbed him and pulled him back. She shouted at the speeding car but it vanished out of sight into the tunnel it was driving towards before she was even half finished. "I'm fine. Thanks!" Michael said sighing in relief from her saving him.
While it wasn't explicitly clear what they were meant to do, it didn't seem the vehicles were going to respond to their presence as the car hadn't even slowed remotely from either Michael standing too close or from Momo's outburst. They were automated, so they were likely just hurtles for them to get past. Michael looked around, this time being sure to keep away from the rushing traffic. From how it was laid out, it seemed more like an obstacle course more than anything, getting from one place to the other. He could even see a door way over on the other side of the river past the road.
"Looks like we just need to get over to the other side..." Michael said in concern. The way these vehicles were zooming they would likely do pretty serious damage, even to his rubbery body. They would need to move across the road quickly to try to jump between the oncoming cars with precision timing to avoid getting struck.
"If I was stronger I might be able to float us over... but we'd be sitting ducks if I started to lose gas..." Michael said apologetically. "So it looks like we'll have to cross by foot."

Song of Rage and Ice
As the two competitors tried to duke it out, Michael ran over to try to stop them. While Gen had been reckless and dangerous with his item, beating him down would do nothing but give self-gratifying relief. Giving into anger and hurting him was unnecessary, they could stop him without needing to harm him... at least that was the thought.
As Michael got closer to the two, he must have activated a function of the shield he hadn't expected, maybe the designers hadn't either. It began sucking in attacks towards his shield like iron to a magnet. It was a surprising revelation as Jack's tentacles began whipping right at Michael. He swiftly twisted for the attacks to strike against the shield on his back. Michael was relieved that he was able to draw the attacks away from Gen before it would do serious damage but Jack clearly did not feel the same.
"We don't need to hurt him to stop-" Michael shouted sternly back but was cut off as Gen made it clear that unless incapacitated he was a far greater danger than Michael would expect. Gen laughed and mocked Michael for saving him and moved to press the button to bomb the competitors again.
"NO!" Michael shouted out.
Michael hadn't noticed a competitor that had been sneaking their way along side of the conflict. Even when they dropped their invisibility, he hadn't seen them until he heard the phrase: "What time is it?" If their intervention hadn't been enough to take them down or at least stop Gen from dropping the bomb, it seemed Jack had another idea in mind.
Jack rushed towards Michael looking to rebound himself off the shield. Michael turned to line himself up with Jack's approach to allow him to launch himself towards the impending danger.
Trusting Jack to some how handle the possible destructive force, Michael turned his attention back toward Gen. He didn't want to get violent but it was clear that Gen would continue to be a threat if left active. Michael was normally such a soft and gentle person, he hated conflict and fighting, but he knew that sometimes a hero needed to act for the greater good. If there was no other way, then he'd have to fight.
Michael charged towards the ice wall that Gen shielded himself behind. Michael unfolded his Well Well Well sticker book to pull out a set of 3 foot diameter stickers. Slapping them to the wall of ice, an assortment of overlapping holes to instantly form for him to bound through and rush straight towards Gen. Rage from the disregard of human life Gen had shown drove Michael straight at him with a fist cocked back. Michael threw a punch, but it went wide, angry as he was, he still struggled with causing more pain than needed. Rather than thrusting his fist into Gen's face, his punch clotheslined the boy, hooking under his chin and catching his neck to knock him to down in one desperate swing. He had seen how Gen was controlling the zeppelin, so he now just needed to keep him from touching the control pad again.
Regardless if it was Kaida's stun gun or Michael needing to charge in, Michael would rush to disable Gen. He scrambled down, coiling his arms and legs around Gen to pin him down to the ground. Michael would stay here for the rest of the competition if he had to to keep Gen from harming anyone else. "Stay down! Don't make this worse than it has to be." Michael barked sternly down at his prisoner.
Worse case scenario and the bomb dropped and Jack had been incapacitated: Michael would rush towards the bomb to attempt to pull it towards the shield. He would dump his stickers onto he ground to create a crater for the bomb to be pulled towards with his shield on his back and contain the explosion's impact within the hole.

TLDR: If Kaida didn't stop Gen from dropping the bomb with their stun gun: Michael used the backlash from Jack's attack on his shield to launch Jack towards the zeppelin like Jack planned. Michael charged at Gen, attempting to use his 3ft Well Well Well stickers to get through Gen's ice wall and clothesline him to the ground. Michael then would try to put Gen into a hold to prevent him from using the zeppelin's controls again. I'm assuming with the Speed and Strength gap between Michael and Gen this would be plausible if he can get through the wall.

Between a Jack and a Gen Place
Michael was relieved by the number of people he had managed to help with his quick thinking. These Well, Well, Well stickers were quite handy. While he had initially saw them as just was way to create hindrances as pitfalls for others, he was pleased to find the different ways he could not only utilize them but was able to help people with them. He already began to think how amazing these would be during rescue missions as a way for quick and safe excavation.
Michael continued to usher people into his safe holes to avoid the rock slide that the bomb had caused. He was still wasn't sure how it hand managed to get this far considering how far the zeppelin had been from them, but that didn't matter while there were people in danger. Many of the people hiding in his quickly made cave were appreciative, some had to swallow their prides to avoid being bowled over by boulders. Michael was just happy to be of help, even if there were some that were already planning to rush on ahead having taken advantage of his kindness. Winning wasn't Michael's focus here; he needed to showcase the gadgetry and be a hero while doing so. That's what really mattered.
While other competitors like Jack were not looking to cause conflict against others, he did seem ready to face against others that did seek that conflict. Gen had been antagonistic for the majority of this competition. Being competitive or even cocky was one thing, but he was actively putting people in danger. Jack was prepared to face off against Gen, but Gen had already proved how dangerous he was. Michael couldn't risk Jack or anyone else getting hurt if he got reckless. So when Jack stepped out to face off against Gen, Michael told the others to go on ahead, but he went out to join Jack. He didn't want anyone to get hurt and as dangerous as Gen was being, he wanted to protect him too. If they could stop him without needing to cause more damage or injury, then Michael would see it done.
Michael summoned forth his other equipment from storage, the Back Star Shield. Donning the shield on his back, he hurried to Jack's side to face off against Gen, hoping to end it peacefully before this got more out of hand. But Jack immediately jumped into the fray, flung forth by his tentacle gadget. "Wait! We don't need to fight!" Michael shouted as he ran after him to try to stop their ensuing brawl.

Michael Faraday
Loss for Words
Michael listened to the heart-breaking story quietly, giving her the time she needed to express it and share what she wanted to from it. As she finished, Michael very badly wanted to reach across the table and hold her hand in support. He resisted the urge because he managed to finally pick up on how little she wanted to be touched, at least without control of the contact. He could only take a silent inhale as he kept his sad eyes on her. With his unreadable face it was difficult to tell where he was looking or what he was thinking, especially now with the solemn moment dimming his reactions and body language. To fight the urge to try placing his hand on hers, Michael gently folded his hands together as he finally tried to speak.
"Kioko... I... I'm so sorry. I didn't know. I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that." He almost said 'all of that alone' but there was no need to reiterate that. Even if he had known, even if he had been there, what could he have done to help. What could he do now...? "Kioko. I-." The normally cheery balloon man was at a loss for words. What could he say? She was beyond the use for sympathy, but there had to be something he could do. "I- I can talk with my parents. I don't know what pull my mother's family might have for this, but there has to be something we can do..."
