Level 2: Feeling Froggy?
Michael ran with Momo through the exit as they passed round 1. Michael bent over and panted so hard it looked like his head inflated and deflated briefly with every heavy breath. When Momo complimented his quirk, he felt his already red cheeks flush slightly. He looked up at her and how hard she had driven herself to make it past that last room. "Thanks. *huff puff* You were amazing back there too." He still didn't quite understand how her quirk worked, but she knew how to work it and that was all that mattered. Michael looked down the corridor heading for the next area. That had only been the first level, so now they were heading to the next level.
Momo asked if he was ready for the round two and he stood back up straight breathing regularly. He nodded, feeling confident by her enthusiasm. "Lets's do it!" They hurried their way down the corridor to door way to the next level. The room they entered was dark for a moment until the lights came on to reveal the challenge.
There was a large stretch of what appeared to be asphalt stretching from one wall to the other like a road for them to cross. Along the walls of that road was four large holes in line with one another. Across the road from them was a river, flowing parallel with the road. On the river floated down logs and round green platform that flowed from the left to the right. Just like the road there were holes along the sides of the river that the logs and platforms floated out from.
As Michael took a step closer to get a better look, suddenly a massive car zoomed past him on the road nearly knocking the balloon man over. With that first car zipping by, an assortment of massive vehicles drove from one hole into the other, making the road into a 2-way freeway. From the look of how it was laid out, it seemed they needed to cross the street and then the river to get to the other side.

Rolling Over the Hole
Michael was making great progress up the side of the mountain and even was leaving a safe and easy path behind him for others to climb. Others were likely making it up better or faster, but he was not that far behind all things considered. These small holes he had made into hand-holds proved very effective and Michael was glad he didn't have to use them against other people. He was proud that he could showcase the gadgetry in a way that might not have been thought of during its design. It would be easy to use this as a way to hinder or trap others, but Michael wanted to show that it didn't need to essentially be a weapon.
Suddenly a shadow cast over the mountain side as the zeppelin floating around was now looming just over head. Michael's stomach churned as hatches opened from the blimp's bridge and a large object was dropped. Michael's assumptions on the intent of this gross overuse of power were confirmed as the object struck into the mountain near its peak and exploded into the craggy side. Michael feared for anyone that might be closer to the impact, but he couldn't be concerned for long as it only got worse. The explosion had blasted loose a rock slide that was coming for anyone ascending the mountain side.
Michael didn't hesitate as he quickly got out his Well Well Well stickers. He didn't have long before the boulders and debris would not only bowl him over but anyone behind him. Michael yelled back to the people behind him using the hand-hold holes he had made. "EVERYONE GET UP HERE FAST!" Michael placed down the three 9 foot wide diameter stickers, using the angle of the mountain to try to create shallow caves for people to hide inside so the rock slide could roll over the hole rather than hitting them. Michael moved down to help anyone straggling to get to the holes as quickly as possible.
Notes & Tags: Jack Orion | Kaida Ikarashi | Kurokami Gen In possession of the Back Star Shield (inert) and Well Well Well Stickers (2/3 Pads remaining)| No 9 foot hole stickers remaining. Only 1ft, 3ft and 5ft holes remaining on the two pads. TLDR: Michael used the 9ft holes create small caves in the mountain side for the rock slide caused by the explosion to roll over the hole rather than hit anyone trying to climb. Michael tried to help as many people as he could get into the hole to safety.

The Tea over Tea
Michael listened with solemn contemplation for Kioko's retelling of her life since he had last known her. He hadn't thought too much on just how big her family's company had been, though it did make sense. As open and friendly as his parents attempted to be, there was always a social barrier that kept the majority of the world at bay from Michael. His play-dates and friends were meticulously arranged until he reached high-school and managed to convince his mother's side into allowing him to attend public school. So for Kioko to have been able to play with him at all when he was young, it would make sense that her family had to be up fairly high on the social ladder to permit their meeting. Usually that meant noble or celebrity children, but CEO of a successful meta support tech company would definitely apply. Michael only knew that Kioko's family was involved with that kind of product from his father who claimed he used Sovereign Technology back in his active field days.
Kioko's distant tone as she explained made Michael's stomach sink from the emotional detachment. As he continued to listen his stomach churned more in concern and pity for his friend to have dealt with such a life. After all, she had lost her mother faulty equipment and then expected to step up in her place because of her intelligence. But he knew that there was much more to this that was delayed by the arrival of their drinks. Michael watched with tense breath as she clung to the warm mug of tea and drank from it. He didn't want to try pushing her as she would explain what she could at her own pace.
Michael took his mug of tea and despite his balloon coated face, he brought the cup to where his mouth should be and appeared to take a drink. No liquid spilled and there had been a slurping sound in spite of the balloon being an seemingly intact barrier covering the mouth that had made a distinct sipping sound. The cup even appeared less full as he set it back down to the table, ready for her to continue her tale.

Done with One
Michael watched in awe as Momo's plan went off splendidly. She even punctuated the success with a little cheer and dance. He chuckled softly to himself as he watched her, equally pleased with the results. Momo started running ahead for the exit and Michael followed immediately after her. They seemed to have made it through the first challenge but what else did this class have in mind moving forward.
Michael wasn't much of a video game enthusiast so he wasn't sure what to expect in the next rooms, but he was confident that he and Momo would be able to handle most any challenge together. He kept close behind her, falling in step off of hers so he could help her if anything went wrong on the final sprint for the exit.
Momo's energy and excitement were contagious as Michael couldn't help but smile from behind his latex face. He was having fun with this class' challenge so far and he could attribute that to Momo. If he was running this on his own or with another classmate, he may have taken it too seriously, not appreciating the creativity and playfulness that this kind of scenario could have.

Air Out of my Balloon
Michael winced and inhaled sharply through gritted teeth as the students all sat around after the "failed" mission the class had turned out to be. Michael had taken more than his fair share of injuries while trying to protect his fellow classmates from the elaborate assortment of traps and enforcers they had to deal with. He was exhausted and sore like he hadn't ever been. And while he had defended his classmates he felt as though he could have done more, that he should have been able to do more. Lone Wolf's words of "encouragement" was just another level of bitterness to swallow.
It only felt worse when Michael was singled out by the man actively commend him on his leadership skills. Michael didn't feel like much of a leader having led his team only to last slightly longer than others. This class hadn't seem to have much of a lesson, but it was still training and non-lethal experience for a worse case scenario. They wouldn't have the luxury of working with others on all missions, but a wholly singular focus didn't sit right with Michael. They were meant to be heroes, to help and protect people, that should extend to their fellow heroes. If they were in a situation where they could assist another hero, it would make more sense to the balloon headed man to do so than to just look out for yourself. But he had passed regardless of how he felt about it.
Michael sucked up his pain to check on the others and make sure they were okay. No one should be in serious injury but they might need assistance getting to the medical wing to get patched up. The teachers wanted to be focused on individual advancement but Michael wanted all of them to succeed and that meant taking care of everyone.

The Competing with your Hole Heart
Despite the more or less obvious implications, Michael hadn't really seen this event as a competition against his fellow classmates. After all they were expected to be testing new and possibly dangerous equipment, it seemed reckless and kind of mean to do that to others. However, they did need to properly test the equipment and that included in practical application against others. Michael was thankful that his gear didn't have obvious offensive properties but still it did not help with what they were being tasked to do either.
As the others seemed to trash talk or hype themselves up, Michael gave all of his competitors a gentle wave and a wish for good luck out there, but it seemed he would need that luck the most. A shield and stickers were not designed to deal with this kind of challenge. If trying to avoid hazards of the shifting arena or even going down the mountain side was the task, then he might have some use for them. Also if he was more maliciously minded, he might try to use the stickers to set traps against his competitors, however it just wasn't in him to act so underhandedly. He knew the stickers would have their use, but he wouldn't go against himself morally to use them. However as it was the gear he had was about as helpful as his quirk was right now, nonexistent. Still Michael strove to keep pushing on ahead.
Michael did feel bad not being able to showcase the gadgets the engineers had worked so hard to craft and hoped there might be better advantages moving forward, but he would keep pushing himself to climb the mountain through the growing weather hazards. This was definitely an eye opener for the young latex hero-in-training. Despite using his quirk rather sparingly while performing community services, he did expect to be able to use his quirk while doing more escalated hero duties. He had been too lax in his physical training. He needed to be faster, stronger, more enduring. He couldn't count on his quirk to literally and figuratively help him bounce back. His muscles were already straining from exertion as he pushed himself. Not only was he forcing himself up the side of the looming and thunderous mountain, he went out of his way to try helping others. Even if it was just giving them a hand hold or a boost, Michael gave his all to assure the safety and accession of his competitors.
Michael wasn't giving up, but he wasn't going to let anyone get hurt if he could help it. They were all competing against one another, but they were all also wanting to become heroes, he was wanting to become a hero. So he would aid anyone in need, even if they were against him. The mountain side was only getting more treacherous by the moment and Michael would help and protect anyone and everyone he could. He kept an eye out for falling hazards or dangers from above, ready to spring into action if needed.
As the mountain side became slicker, regular hand holds were not going to cut it. But Michael suddenly had an idea. He got out one of the pads of Well Well Well Stickers from his pack. He could unfold and unravel it to get to some of the larger holes, a few big enough to catch people like a tiger trap, but he didn't need any of the bigger ones. Michael began peeling out the numerous small holes, ones that were likely made to act like tripping potholes, and began sticking them to the mountain side. As soon as he slapped the stickers down they would create an equivalent hole. This was more than enough for him to grip as well as leave them for others to use to help with their climb. Michael continued to use all of small 6in wide holes from all three pads to create a safe and accessible climbing path behind him as went up the mountain side, leaving a descending amount of assorted 1ft, 3ft, 5ft, and 9ft wide holes remaining on the pads.
Notes & Tags: Jack Orion | Kaida Ikarashi | Kurokami GenIn possession of the Back Star Shield (inert) and Well Well Well Stickers (2/3 Pads remaining)| I believe that using all the small holes would likely add up to an equivalent of 1 pad's worth of stickers.

Taking the Hammer Throw
Michael could taste the copper in his mouth from blood. Not that anyone else could see beneath the layer of latex that covered his whole face. Michael groaned from the harsh direct hit of the hammer against his chest having done its fair share of damage. But it at least seemed that everyone else was okay. Even with his rubbery body and airy insides, that hammer had punched hard against his torso. As much as he tried to be a human shield for people, he was going to need to build up a stronger impact resistance. He could tank quite a lot, but it he needed to be stronger.
Michael gritted his teeth through the discomfort as Mash and Carpenter helped him back onto his feet. Michael could see Mesmer didn't seem very happy, but he couldn't get into that right now. He wanted to find out what was wrong but they had to keep going since traps and a sniper weren't going to be their only obstacles. They had to push forward or they'd get pinned down here. The four of them continued on, finding more traps littered along the way but with the sounds of gunfire and explosions in the background, it was clear they needed to pick up the pace. "I can still carry you." Michael said to Mesmer as he hid how much his chest hurt.
It was frustrating. How was this suppose to be a class for first years? If anything it felt more like condoned hazing by upperclassmen and possibly their teacher. It was unclear if they were meant to be able to even complete the set course. But regardless, Michael kept pushing forward. He tried to muscle past how much his ribs hurt and keep focused on looking out for traps as they made their way towards the center.

Balloon in Hand
Michael was happy that Kioko had put up with the walk over here. He had heard her vocalizations of contempt and disapproval as he had led her to this ramen shop, but it wasn't significantly different from the reactions he had from a number of friends in his later school years. Being a hero was one thing, but Michael's ultra altruism was grating at times... A nicely "contained" reaction like Kioko's was understandable so he just let it go. If it was something personally offensive, he would hope she'd let him know but as it was, Michael wasn't going to expect her to match his sentiment or demeanor about how he interacted with people.
Sitting down in the booth it was comforting for Michael to see her appear to relax more. At least that is how he perceived it. After all, Michael was a very straight forward and open kind of person, so he gave people that kind of benefit of the doubt to share who they were or how they felt. He wouldn't push unless it was necessary for their safety.
"I think so... your parents were into making gear for heroes, right?" Michael said trying to remember as best he could, but it only came to him in the broadest strokes. He felt a little embarrassed to not remember too much more than that.

Balloon in Hand
Michael smiled warmly from Kioko agreeing to come along with him. Keeping his loose grip on her hand Michael lead her down the city block. He gave friendly waves and greetings to the people they passed on sidewalk. The guy was like the host of children's show, that enthusiastic and friendly demeanor that would seem disingenuous by practically anyone else. One could almost hear the sickeningly sweet upbeat theme music that played under him as he strolled along. All the while gentle escorting this tall elegant storm cloud of a woman along with him. It was a rather polarizing sight for anyone that saw them.
When they arrived at a cross walk, a small old woman stood waiting for the light to change. Keeping his hold of Kioko's hand he looked down to the older woman. "May we assist you across the street auntie?" The little granny looked up at Michael and then Kioko, and smiled fondly. She wondered if she needed to fix her thick glasses' prescription as she struggle to comprehend the pair. "Why thank you dearie." She breathed out behind her smile. She reached a hand up and took hold of Michael's offered arm just as the pedestrian light indicated they could cross. The spectacle that was Kioko and Michael grew more greater as now it appeared they were helping an elderly woman across the street together.
"It's just around the corner here." Michael told Kioko as they made it to the other side of the road. He turned back to the old woman. "Take care auntie."
"Thank you! Such a sweet couple." The old lady said as she turned to go down another direction.
"Not a couple, but thank you auntie." Michael said as he gave her a light wave and continued on his way with Kioko.
Shortly after that, they arrived at a small ramen shop and bar that seemed squished in between a drug store and a small office building. As Michael walked in, there was a united greeting from the staff to which Michael joyfully returned. The shop was virtually empty aside from a pair of business men having beers at the bar and a high-schooler eating ramen while looking through text books. Michael sat down at booth away from everyone else so they could talk. A waitress came over to them, "Michael-san so nice to see you again." Michael was a regular here, at least enough to know the staff by name.
"Thank you Yamatori-san. Can I just a number 3 and some tea?" Michael smiled to the woman. She turned toward Kioko and handed a menu to her. "Do you need some time miss?" The waitress asked Kioko.

Michael continued to be surprised by the attitude and surprises of Momo. Her latest trick with her yo-yo made it so it was being lifted by the girder above to ease some of the weight off Michael. He was able to charge it forward and line it up for the plan. With the help on the barrel, Michael was able to outrun the next wave of barrels. "Okay, on three let it go." Michael said as he readied to throw it towards the panel to lock it up. He didn't want her to get yanked along with the barrel from just throwing it unannounced. "One, two, Three!"
Michael inflated himself nearly twice his size to give him that extra little bump to hurl the barrel towards the panel that had been releasing them towards them. Michael let out his gas as soon as the barrel was in the air, snapping back to his normal size and shape. From this close at the end of the scaffold they should be able to jump up to the final beam together and make way for the exit.

Round 1 Begins
Michael stood as ready as he could be. Michael didn't have a hero costume so he just wore his UAU athletics gear. Michael felt anxious as he stood in white void of a room with his other classmates. He didn't enjoy the idea of not knowing what to expect, especially when coupled with the sensation of being cut off from his quirk. While going around the streets of Tokyo doing good deed and civic services Michael did his best to not use his quirk, after all he would need a license to use its more prominent abilities. However this was different. Not having the safety net his quirk supplied was one thing, but the way his body felt and moved without the unconscious flow and elasticity that his quirk gave was a whole other story. Michael worried that he might be rather sluggish and less resistant to damage without it pumping through him, so he needed to be cautious.
Michael cycled through the two items he would be testing. He was hoping for some more adequate time to become acquainted with the gadgets but he supposed that was more or less the point of the event. Not only to test the craftsmanship of the equipment but to test their capabilities while using or hindered by the gear. Michael was unpleasantly surprised as the void of a room they were in shifted and changed to the start of the first round.
The location was mountainous and littered with trees. Michael was more use to an urban setting, but with his quirk inaccessible he supposed it didn't really matter where they were. It seemed simple enough, make it to the center of this hilly forest, but then the real challenge began. The earth began shaking violently before it began to sink down in waves and chunks. Michael felt the gadgets would not serve much aid against this, so the only strategy was to book it as fast as he could for the center. He couldn't rely on being able to bounce or float out of a bad situation, so he just needed to outrun what he could.

Taking the Hammer Throw
It seemed their teamwork had paid off. Just as Michael asked of her, Mesmer used a blinding flash to disorient the hammer wielding foe. This allowed Michael to slam his inflated fist into the attacker and sent him flying over Carpenter. Michael couldn't count that the guy was going down with that one hit and unfortunately he was right. Rather than targeting any of the closer party members, the attacker summoned forth a new hammer that he chucked towards Mesmer.
Michael was too far away from her to pull Mesmer out of the way so he just dove in from instinct. "Mesmer get down!" Michael shouted as he jumped into the line of fire. His body attempted to act as an air bag to cushion the hammer against his body to dampen its impact, but it still hit hard. Knocking a large amount of air from his body with as painfully as it sounded from Michael's latex masked mouth. This attacker's escape diversion had gone off without a hitch as this was now the new focus rather than detaining the hammer bro.

Michael felt bad that he didn't have a better plan or more experience in something like this. All Michael really had was his desire to keep everyone safe. He was relieved that Mesmer introduced herself. But it did make Michael feel more awkward about not settling on a hero name. Mr. Inflatable, Deep Float, Balloon Boy... none of them felt quite right... It was his first year with the university but its not like this was his first year working towards being a hero. He always assumed that part would just fall into place so he focused on everything else.
The lack of damage they encountered after a while was more troubling than anything. Sure it was a relief to not find further injured classmates, but it also meant that any traps would still be hidden and active. This point was proven as Mash ended up triggering a broom that came out and hit him. Michael rushed to his side, "Mash! Are you okay?" It was just a broom but still, it was enough to help them be more careful. Mesmer used her light quirk to illuminate the rather rudimentary traps. "Mesmer, that's brilliant!"
They could carry on much easier now, and with traps like these, Michael would be in a much easier position to defend his team. As they continued forward, suddenly a wall of a building burst open with a person brandishing ethereal hammers. Michael jumped back to avoid the exploded debris. The party was split in half from the rubble, nothing that they couldn't get around but it was enough to separate them to make a united defense difficult. "Mash! Carpenter!" Michael shouted out in concern but quickly turned his focus to their attacker.
Michael had to jump into action, but he couldn't carry Mesmer into the battle. "Mesmer," Michael started as he placed her down. "I need you to try to flash the enemy. Keep the lights in intense bursts to disorient." Michael had to trust that she would help as she could but stay out of the fray, so she didn't get into the crossfire.
Michael rushed in to get back up to Mash and Carpenter. Inflating his right fist to thrice its size, he launched a punch at the hammer wielding foe.

Inflated Stakes
As they had made it to a relatively safer path, Michael's classmates used this as an opportunity to introduce themselves. The two men with them gave their hero names and admitted that they had come with Michael because he seemed to have a plan. "Sorry to disappoint but no. I don't have much of a plan, at least not one to get us through. I've been just going off instinct, same as you. My name's Michael, I can manipulate my body pretty much any way a balloon can. Its not going to help up much getting through this together, so we just need to rely on everything else we have."
Michael looked down to the girl that was still complaining about her injury. "How is your leg doing? I can carry you for a bit if you need. I don't know if you're able to help at all, but I'm not going to leave you behind even if you can't." He hoped that she would tell him who she was and what she could do if she was going to help them.
Michael looked back to his party. "If we can get to the center, I might be able to float up the side of the building and be able to knock out the people on the higher levels while you three can come in from the entrances for a pincer kind of maneuver, but we need to get there first. If we keep together and go at this smart, we should be able to avoid the traps, so if you see something say something. No one gets left behind." Michael said reassuringly hoping to motivate them with some confidence.
Michael was ready to take over carrying the girl from Carpenter if she felt she needed it. "Mash, Carpenter, take point. Everyone keep your eyes peeled high and low. We can't afford to take our time here but we can't charge blind."

Pump You Up
On Momo's cue, Michael put her down and inflated his upper-body. His athletics clothing stretched harshly as if threatening to burst at the seams as Michael's arms and torso swelled like some kind of champion body builder. His muscularly defined appearing arms reached out fast to grab onto that final barrel before it rolled too far away. Momo's plan had worked to be able to freeze the wick over and stop the fuse.
Michael strained a little with a deep grunt as he attempted to lift the barrel up and over his head. Michael's legs began to swell up as he inflated the muscles there to as he settled the cask on his shoulder. Gritting through his teeth, he tried to keep his composure as he told Momo: "Alright... start going... I'm right behind you." Michael began walking up the beam with the barrel on his shoulders, to get it in place for the next part of her plan.
