Michael felt a harsh churn in his stomach. His attack had been successful but while he could make contact with Emi she was truly slower for a reason. He had been lucky enough to use Emi's own momentum and anatomy against her as it had been like hitting a steel pipe when he struck her leg. Speed and flexibility would be his only great strengths when it came to facing her. There was a relief that flowed through him to know there was very little chance that he could hurt her with her quirk active like this. However, that did make his options in this spar rather limiting.
As she dropped down to a knee, Michael was already moving around and away from her knowing he'd need to put that distance between them. As he did so, he was caught off guard by her whipping around to use her gauntlets. Michael was unsure what they did, but to his fortune she simply signaled a timeout first. She asked if he was okay with her using her gear. Michael didn't have any kind of support equipment yet. He hadn't thought of what could be aptly used along side his quirk as whatever he wore or wielded needed to be just as flexible as he was or it would be more of a hinderance than assistance.
"That's fine with me. I don't have anything, but feel free to use whatever you like." Michael said with a warm friendly tone. He needed to train against anything he could in order to get to the competency he needed to be able to help everybody, so pushing himself against not only her quirk but the gear designed to supplement her weaknesses was all too necessary.
Michael bounced himself back and readied for whatever she planned to do with those gloves.

Quiet the Introduction
Michael was all too ready and with no pun intended: he was rather pumped up to get into the simulation and save some people. He didn't really have much stomach for combat and conflict, Michael only really saw that kind of resolution as a last resort. So for their objective to be focused on rescue was essentially ideal for the rubbery man. Michael's only regret was not having more time to get to know his teammates better. In a mission like this trust and understanding were vital and he knew that his powers and appearance alone tended to baffle people.
Michael was glad to see the familiar face of Emi joining Team C. He had only sparred with her but having someone as strong as she was would be vastly helpful in this, especially if there was going to be any heavy lifting or, heavens forbid, a fight. Paragon stepped up with their namesake to take on the role of leader of their trio, much to Michael's appreciation. While he was normally very capable by himself, Michael found himself in a more supportive and defensive role when it came to teams. A useful quality, but it lacked the big picture kind of thinking a leader needed.
When Masao called out Michael's assumed quirk, he felt kind of embarrassed. Many people doubted his capabilities due to the apparent nature of his quirk and it wasn't exactly easy to explain it in a more flattering light. "Yes, my body can do pretty much anything a balloon can. Inflating, twisting, even floating to some degree. While my skin is rubbery in nature it doesn't really have a squeaky quality unless I force it to or if I get wet."
It wasn't much but it seemed like Michael would likely be their quirk header while they were sneaking along. Michael hoped that they wouldn't come across any enemy targets then... He didn't want anyone to get hurt, even the people that were playing the parts of the villains.

Bend and Snap
Michael was ready for the match, but her quirk did surprise him. The brilliant glow radiating energy off of Emi was beautiful, almost mesmerizing. Fortunately for him, her approach was slowed enough by her unapparent density change. Michael wasn't too sure what to expect if that punch she threw would connect and what more that intense glow had some ominous implications. Michael wasn't sure if he could even attempt any of his redirecting throws without injuring herself if that energy was more than bright.
Alright, avoidance then. Michael thought to himself. Clearly the tactic to follow for the time being would be dodging and outmaneuvering her as best he could until he could see an opening or assess any weaknesses. He would test the waters until he needed to solidify a plan of attack or active defense.
Bending backwards like a limbo master, Michael arched his body back under the punch thrown at his midsection. With as swift nearly pretzel-level twist at his hips, Michael snapping his leg out to try a fast jab of a kick to the back of Emi's left knee. He went for the natural bend of her knee to gauge not only how effective simple strikes would be against a point of leverage as well as having the strike be brief enough that he wouldn't seriously injure or strain himself. If he was able to make contact with her without harming himself he could look into grappling and submission holds in order to cause the least amount of harm or injury.
Even while sparring, Michael detested the idea of causing pain... so he had to push himself in order to perform as a proper sparring partner.

Michael was already on the defensive, avoiding flying shields turned discuses. His rubber banding was working to a degree, but unfortunately for him Jun had much finer control and variety than he assumed. She changed up her tactics, creating a war hammer beneath him lining itself up with his snappy descent.
Michael released the ground but it would do little to change his speed as he plummeted. The hammer was already in arch to meet his impact and even with his rubbery body's resistance to bludgeoning damage, that was likely going to hurt. Michael spread himself out and inflated his arms and legs, catching the wind resistance to glide him away much like a flying squirrel. Michael arched himself to fly towards Jun. Distance wasn't going to help him if she could manipulate and create constructs from afar. So his only chance to last in this was to face her head on.

Even though he has no mouth, eyes or ear holes he does have a mouth, eyes and ears they are just hidden within the semipermeable latex of his balloon head. Michael’s father had a rubber-like mutation quirk and his mother had a gas manipulation emission quirk and their union resulted in Michael having a balloon mutation quirk. Michael grew up very privileged but he always was very caring and helpful for the less fortunate. He would use his power, influence and talents to help anyone that needed it. Fueling his passion for altruism, his parents sought to put him on track to be a hero, though Michael requested that he earn all of it himself, so that is what he sets out to do.

Twist and Pull
Michael's fist collided with the phalanx of shields that Jun summoned forth. Michael's punch snapped his fist back like it was at the end of a rubber band. He began putting together what this meant for her quirk. There was a huge amount of potential if this was all she was capable of, but he wouldn't let himself fall prey to an assumption underestimating her. Still this would make anything like straight forward strikes near impossible. This brought some comfort to Michael as it meant he could effectively work on the power of his punches and kicks without fear of harming his sparring partner; all the while devising how he could get around her defenses.
Michael unfortunately didn't have a great deal of time to think about that as Jun presented the offense capabilities of her quirk as well. The wall of ethereal shields were now flying up towards him like discuses nearly instantly after defending against his punch. Michael spun with the momentum of his returning fist appearing to attempt contorting his body out of the way of incoming discs. Continuing with that momentum, he launched down another punch, only this time he didn't aim it towards Jun. Michael stretched his left hand straight down in an attempt to grab at the ground. Rather than having the punch return to him, he would keep his grip to pull him down and out of the way of Jun's projectiles.

Soft: Inside and Out
Michael smiled, or at least his body language read as such as he shook hands with her. Unfortunately, due to his rubbery anatomy, it wasn't exactly easy to gauge what was a firm handshake with Michael. Despite his father's instruction on proper handshaking, Michael was morally and physically soft, so he didn't have a particularly firm handshake for both those reasons. He would grip clearly in a handshake but never squeezed much in assuring he didn't cause harm. Truth be it, he was more of a hugger, but knew not to do that with strangers or without assuring it was okay first. Still, as rubber does, the tighter the squeeze on his hand the greater pressure was exerted back to the squeezer. In a way it was perfect as it not only reciprocated the firmness of the handshake of whomever he met but it also clearly expressed part of his power. The balloon head tended to be much more obvious for people after they understood his quirk.
"Emi." Michael said warmly in confirmation, ignoring the common awkwardness that Michael was use to upon first meetings.
When the moment had passed, the subject of sparring intensity was brought up. Michael was rather relieved by Emi's more passive approach towards practiced combat. She apparently didn't want to hurt others either. However it seemed Emi was more concerned of a very possible potential of harming others rather than Michael's general desire not to cause harm. That did cause a difficult handicap for sparring. Without putting in a more serious effort, there was always a chance of gaining nothing from the exercise or even harming yourself or others through unpracticed methods. Michael had found this as a problem while studying Aikido early on. Much of the practice involved amiable sparring partners, which meant many of the throws or disarming techniques might as well had been choreographed dances... pretty but not practical.
"That's fine. We don't need to do anything crazy, but I am much tougher than I look. In that I can take quite the beating." Michael chuckled softly. "So just go with what you feel comfortable with. We need to be prepared to go all out even if we don't do so against each other..." Michael very much hated the idea of going all out, even against villains. But he couldn't let himself stay afraid of his power or people could get hurt from his lack of control. This was the whole reason for him seeking a sparring partner after all... He'd need to get over his discomfort to put the safety of others first.
"As long as neither of us seek to go at each other lethally, I'm sure we will get the experience we need." Michael said taking off the track jacket from his PE clothing. Now in just his sweats and t-shirt, he stepped a decent starting distance away from Emi and took a stance ready to spar when she was.

Like Water off Rubber
Michael felt bad for his assumptions. He just struggled to understand what could be motivating Gen to behave the way he does. There had to be reasoning behind it. The school had to see there was something there too. They wanted to help him so that he could help others. It was the goal of any true hero to save everyone, not just who was easy or willing to be saved. Michael wanted to carry optimism that even villains could be rehabilitated and assisted out of their lives of crime and immoral views. Gen wasn't a villain but if this continued he could veer that way... but that was the assumptions that Gen was retorting against and that the doctor was attempting to dissuade.
As Dr. Yanai tried to contextualize and mitigate the perspectives and expectations of both sides but Gen couldn't help chiding out a remark at the end that didn't even make much sense to Michael. What was Gen implying by suggesting Michael be put in an inpatient facility? Was he calling him crazy? Either way it was more confusing than antagonistic and for the sake of moving things forward, Michael just let it go.
Ignoring Gen's comment, Michael asked the doctor: "So how shall we proceed?"

Introductions
Michael's stomach churned harshly in anxiety. Michael was a bit of a pacifist, in that he knew as a potential hero there was always going to be the chance that he was going to HAVE to fight. Criminals, villains, even environmental situations. Fighting against non-living forces was easy, at least in the idea that he didn't have to hurt anyone, but there was a strong likelihood that he couldn't talk his way out of conflict. If a villain was endangering people, there would be scenarios where he would need to resort to violence for the greater good. But still it felt more like a lesser evil to him. Regardless of what circumstances, Michael needed to get better at fighting people...
Michael had studied a few fighting styles at the tutelage of his parents, but the only one that seemed to fit his morals and desire for minimal injury was Aikido. To his benefit, the martial art was actually well suited for his quirk as well. His rubbery balloon body allowed for flexible and durable holds and counters. Disarming and grappling were well suited to his life views and body-type, so he was quick to take up the form. Now he just needed more experience with it.
Michael had sparred with his parents before, but the underlying fear of causing someone harm during the practice still had him hold back enough that he frequently found himself losing and injured most of the time. He had signed up for a sparring partner through the school, hoping maybe he could learn more or at least develop more comfort in conflict by having friendly duels with his peers. At the very least, he could focus on avoidance techniques.
Michael arrived a few minutes later than he would have like to, wearing his gym clothing as he ran to the designated location. Michael's anxieties eased up when he found his sparring partner. This was the part he hadn't been dreading, introductions. Michael was a very social and empathetic sort of person, so making friends was normally simple for him. In spite of the red latex balloon he had for a face, Michael tended to have very obvious body language and a genuine warmth and light to him that helped him be understood.
"Hello Hall-san." Michael said in a bright friendly tone with a gentle wave as he got near. He was given the name of whom he'd be meeting, but he still wasn't fully sure; he just assumed it was her from the context of them being the only ones at this location. She appeared to be the pinnacle of a standard college woman aside from her European features. Her name had been more of an indication of her not being of Japan like a larger number of his classmates, but perhaps she was like himself. Michael was half Japanese and a Japanese citizen, but his father being English in nationality gave Michael his surname and his European attributes.
"I'm Michael, it's nice to meet you." Michael said happily as he extended a hand for Emilia to shake if she pleased.

Rubber Ball Boxing
The kick flew up at Michael as Jun dropped, positioning herself to counter with the throw as she landed. Michael wasn't quite fast enough to dodge the kick, so he did what rubber does and went with it. Bending back with her kick, Michael released Jun and allowed this to bounce him backwards. Flowing with the momentum, Michael moved with the impact allowing him to keep most of his control. He stayed upright as he landed a few meters back, bouncing lightly as his rubbery legs sprang him up and down.
Bending his knees and kicking off the ground as he bounced back, Michael sprung into the air like a Super-Ball slammed to the ground. Bounced up above Jun, Michael stretched back his right fist, coiling his torso slightly to slingshot the punch down towards his sparring partner.

Michael was very good with reactive and defensive styles combat. He struggled when it came to throwing the punches himself because he didn't want to cause harm. That in mind, this was still a friendly spar so he would likely focus on grapples, dodges and disarming moves while incorporating more active attacks to this.
Jun was swift to combine her gear with her fighting style, summoning forth a shield and then launching into an attack. She was fast, even holding back for the sake of the spar, Michael was only just able to shift out of the way on the outside of her swing by ducking down quickly. Michael could expect nothing less from his upperclassman. He had much to learn and was excited for the experiences she would give him.
Michael reached out to attempt to grip Jun's shield wielding arm at the wrist in hopes to gain some control of her momentum and then swing his other arm to hook under her chin for a basic entering throw. Aikido was a rather perfect martial art for Michael as it employed techniques to incapacitate or divert an attacker without causing significant harm. And with his latex-like flexibility holds, throws and counters were a specialty of his.

"So you’re afraid of dying." Michael said bluntly from everything that Gen spewed out of anger.
"There is a more poignant quote that is in the same vein as the one you misquoted: ‘There’s only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.’ The same can be said about being forgotten. It’s easy to overlook or forget someone that isn’t getting the attention they need. I have never had the luxury of not standing out in a negative way. I have had others all my life say I should be come a television personality, leave being a hero to stronger and better people, I can just exist on my parents money and rest all my laurels on the fact that I’m recognizable and friendly. But that’s not me. No matter how much anyone wants to push me into that hole, I want to be a hero. And the same is for you.
You want money and fame, so you never feel without. You want people to be thinking about you and have the means to live comfortably. You don’t want to die alone and forgotten. You COULD have been a villain and accomplished the same thing, but you didn’t. You still could but I see someone better, the you that you want people to accept you as. You can try to be angry and vicious, but even if you were as bad you try to be, you STILL need help.
You’re right. I am too soft, but I don’t give up on my convictions. You can hate me, talk down to me, yell at me, but I’m not going to stop trying to help you. It’s not about trying to change you, it’s about helping you be who you want to be. You want to be successful, famous and rich? Then you need to accept there are better ways than being hated, infamous and morally corrupt. I may very well die young because I am too trusting and compassionate. People will take advantage of that kindness, but it’s not a weakness. I will make myself strong enough to be able to handle the consequences of my morality. So you need to be strong enough to do the same. You want to be how you are, fine. But you still need the power and resources to pull it off.
Let me help you! Let the school help you! There are BETTER ways to achieve what you want!”
Despite Michael’s soft nature, he stood his ground (figuratively, he remained seated). Michael worried about the kind of person Gen would become if he stopped wanting to be a hero. He already spoke vindictively about his teachers and peers. If Michael could just get him to see he could achieve what he wanted without having to act like a villain to achieve it, maybe Gen would be able to get the money he wanted instead of the contempt he was accumulating. Michael had to try, he couldn’t just ignore someone that needed help.

We Could Be Heroes
Michael listened to the doctor list out crime after crime, misdeed after misdeed, malicious action filled with malicious contempt. As much as Michael wanted to see the good in people, it was clear Gen wanted to show nothing but the bad. That wasn't to say he was a bad person, after all, he was here at UAU. He had to have some desire to do good, even if it was for selfish reasons, why go through all this if it wasn't to become a hero. Kurokami-senpai would need to be some kind of moron to waste that much time and effort.
Michael heard Gen try to talk his way out of this, using technicalities and attempts to pass the buck. Michael had already stood up for him but such reckless disregard for accountability, especially for all the people he hurt... it needed to change. He needed to change. And Michael was going to help him.
"It was actually P.T. Barnum that said that, and you probably shouldn't take life style advice from someone that manipulated, used and abused others for his own gain. Though Jordon Belfort is hardly a better role model..." Michael said, correcting Gen's quoted source. Michael sighed and turned himself fully to face Gen.
"Kurokami-senpai, I know its hard and frightening to trust in and be trusted by others, but you don't need to make excuses. You don't have to face this alone. You came to UAU to become a hero; whatever the capacity for reason, you still want to be a hero. It can seem easier to push others away and twist the words and situations to spin yourself into the gray, but you don't need to hide. You don't need to hide from the hero you can.
It isn't fair that you have to work with the perception others have of you. You do all of this just because you feel betrayed and neglected. Not just by the faculty and your peers, but by heroes in general. I can understand that. You see the way heroes are is ineffective, and maybe you're right, but we can't give up hope. Just because villain and vigilantes can be more bombastic with their methods doesn't justify their morals. We have to be better in order to make things better. That's the true meaning behind Plus Ultra.
You see the world differently. You see heroism differently. Show me. Let me see why you believe that, but let me do the same for you. Let me show you doing things morally and compassionately doesn't have to be ineffective. If we are strong enough, smart enough, good enough, we can change the world a thousand times more than the pain inflicted by a villain or the vengeance delivered by a vigilante."
Michael looked back to the doctor. "I don't need any extra credit from this. But if Kurokami-senpai is willing to work with me, I'd like to try to absolve him of negative record."
Michael smiled towards Gen, "You don't need to be like me, but maybe we can learn from each other and find some common ground that will allow us become the heroes we need in the world."
