The living room he landed in was pregnant with shouts and bellowing. A family one room over, in the kitchen, looked in horror as the hero-student picked himself up off the floor and dusted himself off. In another time, Farrin would have rewound the damage done, but not in this timeline. He could speed things up or slow them down, not run time backward. So, it was someone else's problem now.
"Sorry folks! Keep calm, but, eh, maybe keep yer' heads down!" He warned as he approached the crater left in his wake.
The winds whipped at the boy's hair again as he jumped out and below. Thugs and gunmen lay strewn out across the street after the concussive blast. A few on the periphery of the battlefield, close to Bubbles, remained on their feet. The rest, however, were ground. Heads banged against the building sides were unconscious. Then there was the Mountain, who was already back on his feet.
Farrin hit the ground hobbling, then broke into a sprint. A rhythmic, pulsating heat flashed up Farrin's leg. A fun reminder that he had been injured earlier and that pressing full speed might not be the best move. He wasn't always the wisest of the bunch at university.
The air cracked as he jetted across the street and swept a foot along one of the remaining gunman's weapons, shattering the barrel, then jabbed the man in the gut. He was a flurry of fists removing the remaining smaller threats until, around his immediate surroundings at least, the only threat that remained was the Mountain, who eyed the hero-student down.
"Not bad," he started, his gaze shifting from side to side, "but a few helping hands are easily replaced. I'm still standing, and that's all that really matters in the end. Come on, let's finish this."
Farrin smirked. "I dun' know what 800 number yuh' all call fer' the henchmen, but I can promise yuh' won't be dialin' it again anytime soon. Yer' goin' down - right now," he answered the challenge, ready to charge.

Machine guns opened fire. Leads streamed over the time turner from all directions. The hero-student ducked, three rings of emerald-white light forming and snatching up the bulk of the fire.
Farrin leaped back onto a foot when the bullets slowed, then sprung up and over the rings. He landed with a kick to the closest gunner's face. The man was launched right into another crook to his side. Wind swept Farrin's hair, and bullets grazed his side, cutting the lion's mane. Moss and Earth. Flashes of time, memories, the taste of strawberries, and the touch of scales. No, now wasn't the time for that. Each flash that threatened to end him sparked those memories, memories that didn't do him any good now. He had to shed it all. He required machine-like focus.
And so, embrace the machine he did. Dust kicked up in his wake. His legs pulsed fire, sparked his nerves, but there was zero hesitation. Farrin kicked off one goon, then tackled into another. He was a tornado of fists, smacking the enemies away.
The Mountain stood. "Not done yet, small fry," he taunted.
Farrin eyed the giant. "Didn't think yuh'd go down that easy," the time-turner replied. He sped forward, the Mountain charging him in kind. Farrin leaped in the air and threw his fist forward. It collided with the giant's, a wave of concussive force sweeping out from the collision and knocking both combatants away.

While Peacekeeper took her battle with the metal bender up and away, Farrin sped through the lot, locking the remaining stragglers. There weren't many left now. A few rogue jabs and kicks pushed the remnants back.
Peacekeeper had one of the stronger opponents to deal with, but the time-turner couldn't afford to abandon those remaining. If they got loose, there was no telling what damage they might cause. Some of these people needed punishment. Others required help. Whatever was running through their veins was driving them to madness.
The sirens grew louder, police vehicles surrounded the lot, and any exit was blocked. Farrin didn't have to worry anymore about being caught by the authorities while taking action. His preliminary license allowed him to act as a hero when people were in danger. This situation certainly qualified. Peacekeeper, however, would be chased by the police. But, if she just deposited the last of the enemies she was dealing with and then got on the move, he could catch up to her before long, and they could coordinate their next move out of the sight of the police. They wouldn't pose any real threat to someone as capable as her, and as much as Farrin would have liked to stand in her defense, he didn't have the authority to protest action against a vigilante. He was, after all, still a student.
Still, with things wrapping up, it would soon be time to crack down on this mystery. Peacekeeper had been at his side during these last few crazed encounters. There wasn't anyone else more prepared to help him get to the bottom of it.

Though he wasn't in the same condition as his friend a few meters back, blood and bone slowly seemed to shift to metal and mechanics. He was a machine of a different make. One with unparalleled focus on a single objective, a single goal that resonated through his body. Save people.
The gunner had gotten away, but it was a delaying tactic. He bought himself a precious few seconds, minutes at best. Troublesome, but no obstacle he who toyed with time couldn't overcome. Farrin shook off one battle and prepared for another, marching for the police station entrance.
"Oberon," he answered Myling.
Months ago, Farrin would have hesitated using that name. Eyes sifting through the threaded sea of time showed him what it was to be that hero. He hadn't felt he earned. Not anymore. The pieces shed away, they were Farrin O'Rourke. The thing taking his place- Oberon.
"Yuh' best stand aside," Farrin warned those behind him as the temporal sphere dissipated.
The temporal effects of the hero-student's fields continued to grip the space they occupied for just a few seconds after disappearing. A useful trick, but that meant the bullet was prone to continue along its path at full speed in another second or so. He turned to ensure its path didn't put the others at risk. Then the round went off, planting itself into a building a few blocks down.
Then, the newcomer strode past him from behind, approaching the rest of the group. It required an untapped strength to withhold the scowl that would have given the nature of the group away. The folks in the balloon might be hurt if they acted too quickly. His fists were rated E for everyone, but sometimes, you had to brain your way through a situation.
"Yer' secret's safe wit' us," he started, going along with the clear confusion. "Question though, aren't yuh' worried someone might take a shot at the balloon? Police or some such? Wouldn't want 'em all gettin' loose now, would yuh?"
He was fishing for information. He needed only to know that popping the balloon would actually set the victims free rather than kill them or something along those lines. As soon as it was confirmed, he would make his move. Hopefully, the others would pick up on what he was putting down.
tldr: Farrin warns the others about the bullet that's about to be loosed from his field, which then fires off and lands in a nearby building. he's about to march into the club when the balloon thug walks out. Farrin then asks if he's worried about someone popping the balloon and freeing those within, hoping to get confirmation that that would happen if the balloon popped.

Peacekeeper. Farrin might have knocked the entrance if he wasn't pretty terrible with hero entrance quotes himself. He pretty much came in giving the enemy a chance to surrender, then went to work. Not a lot of charisma there quite yet.
The important takeaway was he had backup—some of the most reliable backup he had found since jumping into the field. Whoever Peacekeeper really was- she was fast. She always arrived on the scene just after himself. He wouldn't waste the opportunity or the distraction it provided.
Farrin darted forward, burst right past Mountain Man, then thrust the heel of his armored boot into the back of the giant's knee. He collapsed onto a knee, giving Farrin another opening. He grabbed onto the Mountain's head and threw him into the ground. Debris spewed up into the air, stone, and dust raining down on the mob.
Meanwhile, Bubbles took center stage again. He lifted his hands, and from them, dozens of bubbles spurt into the sky toward Peacekeeper. They looked harmless, but each could shatter a vehicle as it burst. Bubbles here possessed the stronger ranged quirk of the mob, so he had the best chance of swatting the vigilante out of the air. Those wielding firearms aimed as well then fired. This gave the remaining police officers an opening, though. One they would take, each firing on the smaller thugs. Chaos had taken the street in full.

Desperation made quite the fuel. It was stronger in some than others. The truest believers in this insane proposition, those who wanted retribution in blood above all else, stood as beacons to their allies. There were two more of the sort standing still. Their war cries brought the remnants together. So they would be Farrin's targets.
One of the remaining leader-sorts slid through the air. It wasn't exactly flight, but almost as if he could redirect his momentum without the need for physical movement. The specifics were lost on Farrin, but the result was clear enough. He would be slippery. A dozen metal spheres surrounded the other. They floated around him, entirely under his control and prepared to strike any who came too close. Friend or foe alike by the looks of it. One of his fellows took a step too close and was instantly stuck by a fist-sized sphere.
"We can still do this," the flier spouted. "You're not fast enough to deal with that one," he nodded toward Farrin, "but those spheres of yours might give you an advantage against the freak over there." His gaze shifted to Peacekeeper.
"Yeah, yeah. I got it. We split up and take them down," the metal bender said, then darted toward Josephine, metal spheres attempting to cut through the vigilante's defenses.
The lesser crooks divided as well, half charging Peacekeeper, the other half making their way for Farrin. So, Farrin met them head-on. He sped ahead, jabbing, chopping, and sweeping through those with less destructive quirks. He leaped and thrust his foot into one of the crazies, then scooped up another, tossing him into the next.
Sirens wailed. The authorities approached. Most of these people were desperate and taken advantage of. The system had failed them, but that didn't give anyone the right to start attacking others. Still, they had to reach the dealer. If anyone deserved the full measure of the law, it was him.
Farrin leaped for the flier, but the man immediately slid left through the air. Another kick only just narrowly missed as he flew upward. He wasn't as fast as Farrin, but his movement was unpredictable. With a spin, he threw his leg into Farrin's side and flung him off course. Farrin created a sphere of temporal deceleration below his boot, it only lasted a brief second, then disappeared. Luckily, the spaces affected by Farrin's fields lasted just a few seconds after said fields disappeared. So, he kicked off the space and back toward his target. A hard right jab cracked into the man's ribs.
Immediately, the flier slid backward through the air. "How... how dare you! I'll show yo-" Another jab slammed into his gut. "Yuh' talk too much," Farrin chirped. Then he ate his words. The flier slid forward and tackled him. No temporal warnings this time, Farrin's future sight and the accompanying danger sense wasn't perfect, after all. His combat prowess, however, nearly was.
Farrin brought an arm up, looking the poor sod over. "Yuh' winded me, but yuh've made a mistake there, bud." Farrin looked back, finding a building was quick to approach, or more so the flier was tackling them into a building. Before he could, Farrin dropped both elbows onto the flier's back. They dove, slamming into the ground. Farrin grabbed hold of the man as they rolled through the street. Farrin picked himself up when their momentum died, still holding onto the flier, then delivered a hard right to the jaw. The flier fell unconscious.
"Told yuh, big mistake," he exhaled, turning to the lot behind him.
Other than Peacekeeper quelling the last of the crazies, it was empty. The police were close. He and Peacekeeper could move on to find the dealer without waiting around long, and they would. Soon.

That would hold them for about a minute before it faded. A few seconds later, the bullets would be let loose. Hopefully, any innocent bystanders would have cleared the block by then. Guns were easy enough to deal with at this point for the time-turner. The quirked-up crooks, however, would take some work. Farrin could dodge for days, but the mountain of a man looked formidable.
That's exactly where Farrin started. He beamed ahead and leaped over the temporal field, then again over the ranks of gunmen. Upon his descent, he threw a hard right jab for the walking mountain. Thunder cracked with the impact. A few breaks even split across the mountain's cheek, but he stood unfazed. A smile even crept across the giant's face.
"Is that all you've got, runt?" He taunted, eyes narrowing on the time-turner.
"Tch, no' at all, big fella," Farrin retorted, spinning into a kick.
Another crack, and this time, the giant staggered. But, as he stepped back, he took a swing of his own. Farrin air stepped backward, but not without taking a shot to the leg. Farrin was sent spinning and smacked into the pavement. The mountain joined his fists and dropped them on the student. A blink and Farrin was back on his feet a few meters away, though he recoiled with a limp this time.
"Shite, not at all the hit I wanted ta' take," he cursed under his breath, looking over his leg. It wasn't broken or busted up too bad, but it would slow him down, and the last thing he needed against such a massive opponent was to move at anything less than full speed.

The sound of Peacekeeper's plan put in motion caught everyone's attention, including Farrin's. She was using that massive metal container to shove the horde into the metal netting. A solid tactic. It was a way they could contain the threat en masse without potentially killing anyone. An opportunity Farrin wouldn't turn away.
The time-turner shifted gears. Rather than surgically tackling each combatant and picking the small army apart, he sped into the swarm and sent them airborne. Spikes, torrent winds, and energies of a dozen makes flew Farrin's way, but he dipped one way, dodged the other, leaped over the largest projectiles, and ducked those he couldn't. He grabbed onto each of the weaker or more confused crazies and lobbed them one after another. Each crashed into the ground just before the container as Peacekeeper continued to corral them into the net.
The stronger suckers, though, required a little more work. One was covered in spikes, head to toe, like a porcupine of stronger-than-steel make. A single jab was more like a dozen blades, but Farrin remained the fastest, taking two steps back, then firing a stun-round from his wrist launcher into the man's knee. He dropped, then came the painful part. Farrin threw a left jab between the spikes. His arm was sliced, but the man was dropped to the ground.
Quickly now, the enemy ranks were dwindling. Only a few more left, then the path to the dealer would be clear. He had a lot to answer for. Not only for the damage done today but for information on whoever was next up the chain.

Farrin's feet barely touched the edge of one building before bouncing off to the next. He had outclassed sports cars some time ago, so police vehicles were child's play to the time-turner. But the child's toys came to a sudden crash. Sirens screeched, and metal broke.
Farrin skidded across another roof and planted his boots onto the ledge. Below, the scene quickly became clear. Thunder boomed as chunks of stone and concrete crashed into one another, crushing the vehicles between them. Police fired their weapons at one mountain of a man, standing what must have been at least eight feet tall. His skin looked over jagged rocks, and death was in his eyes. Surrounding him were a slew of cronies. Some wielded firearms. Others, their quirks. Bubbles floated around one, then flew forward, ensnaring a police officer. The bubbles were stronger than they looked. Once caught, the policeman couldn't gun his way out. Another thug juggled knives, then threw three out at once. Each soared through the air, then curved into law enforcement hiding behind their vehicles. It was a mess.
"Alright, no more o' that," Farrin mumbled, then jumped below.
Immediately, his boot crashed into one of the thugs holding a machine gun, sending the man into the side of a building. The time-turner then darted forward and leaped into a forward jab, which landed against Bubbles. The man wore some orthodox robes, which flapped as he joined the thug from before. Except, a bubble caught him before he crashed.
"That's 'nuff that, fellas. Give it up now. I promise yuh' yuh won't like doin' this the hard way," he offered them their one chance.
Smirks and sneers were shared. Some were confident, like the mountain man. Others were annoyed. All of them wanted Farrin dead. A sentiment made clear when they moved to attack.

Farrin couldn't see Peacekeeper at the moment, courtesy of the crazy sea in which he swam, but she was clearly up to something. Whatever it was, he trusted her, so he would do his best to give her a window to enact her plan. She wasn't a hero, but she was his partner in the field nonetheless, and you had to trust your partner.
Farrin threw a knifehand strike into the neck of the closest enemy, and man with warming red eyes. This wouldn't be a repeat of the battle by the mall. No laser eyes searing his suit this time. Then, he stabbed the same hand into the shoulder of his next target. The man staggered two steps, then smiled.
"That supposed to tickle?" He taunted Farrin.
"May no' a hurt much, but yuh' won't be movin' that arm anytime soon," Farrin said with a smirk.
Realization dawned on the man. Fear crept into his eyes. His fingers had grown into cannon barrels, but he couldn't lift the arm now. Lucky him, Farrin was no killer. Instead, the time-turner sped in and delivered an open-palmed strike to his gut, doubling the man over. A swift jab to the jaw and the poor sod was knocked out. He would be hurting but would live, just like the rest. There was no time to pat himself on the shoulders, so Farrin immediately turned his attention to the rest of the crowd and dived in.
Meanwhile, the dealer grabbed his case and closed it shut. "Take them down!" He shouted, backpedaling three steps. "Well, I did my part. Time to go," he then muttered. Case in hand, the dealer made his way to the closest exit in the lot. He didn't sign up for confrontation with heroes and vigilantes, especially not of this caliber.

Dozens of crazies sporting newly empowered quirks blanketed Farrin's vision. The time-turner hadn't caught the entirety of the speech, but spotting a few of the desperate ranks in line, poking a syringe housing a familiar substance into their veins spelled the story out well enough. Time drew a path in the sand for him, and this is where it led. He had to help those who wanted no part in the insanity and quell those who did. They may have been desperate, but their intentions were made clear. They would harm others. Others had nothing to do with their plights. He couldn't let them get away no matter how bad he felt for those taken advantage of here.
So, Farrin summoned a field of pearlescent power, cutting straight down the crazed army's ranks. Shimmering green and white, the field slowed all that touched it, which numbered about a dozen or so of the opposition. Still, countless enemies left to deal with and, of course, securing those trying to get away.
Farrin dove straight into the enemy. Some summoned the elements. Others brought physical mutations to bear. Farrin cut through their ranks in a blink. A point in Farrin's favor, they weren't all familiar with their newfound strength. A swift jab here, a hard cross shot there, a sweep of the legs. Farrin was a blade surgically targeting each enemy, disabling them with a single blow. But where one fell, two more took his or her place.
More familiarity. The sight of Peacekeeper's tendrils brought the slightest crook of a smile to Farrin's face. Her presence was half expected in most of his encounters with villainy these days. A welcome presence. He meant what he said to Josephine during their climb. While there would be no need for vigilantism in an ideal world, he held no delusions about the state of the world and its definitive lack of idealism. If a vigilante tried not to kill, knew enough to defend themselves and others while apprehending villainy, and didn't cause unnecessary harm to those around them, Farrin wouldn't be too keen on chasing them down and trying to lock them up.
Peacekeeper leaped away, the innocent carried in her tendril grasp. With them out of the way, Farrin didn't have to worry as much about differentiating between the two groups occupying the lot. He just needed to take the crazies down and cut off the distributor of the drug. Easy enough, right?

Three days. Three days spent under a green, smoggy sky. Ever since Tokyo was taken by the emerald aura above, chaos had become the rule of law. And so, for three days, Farrin put his newly earned preliminary license to use, acting as an aegis for the innocent. He coordinated with the Above & Beyond agency, the folks that first brought him to Japan and initially trained him. But, they, too, were affected by the quirk-swapping phenomena.
Farrin had felt the tug at his temporal threads, but chronokinesis resisted, tied to the time lord. He was left in a fairly unique position that saw him still armed with abilities he was familiar with, all the more prepared for the days to come. So, he took to the city. From what he heard from Above & Beyond, only Tokyo and some nearby townships were feeling the effects of this chaos, which meant those beyond - she - was safe. For now, at least. He had to do his part, to help where he could, afford those with the expertise the breathing room they required to figure this all out.
Now, faced with known quantities, enemies dull enough to parade around with purple dressings and embellishments that marked them as part of this gang. At first, he had been weary of the supposed pro-hero now at his back, but the criminals confirmed at least some of Myling's claims. He was a second-year student now and one well-versed in the dance of combat. So, when the resounding bang that accompanied oncoming bullets shouted for all to hear, Farrin was quick to summon a large sphere just behind the thugs storming their position. The bullet passed into the sphere and then lost nearly all its speed. Time had shackled it to near-stasis.
"Big feckin' mistake, lads," Farrin nearly growled, bursting ahead.
Exhaustion gripped him. Obligation drove him. After three days of action, the two threatened to tear Farrin apart, but obligation continued to win out. A thunderous boom was left in the time-turner's wake as he flew forward and kicked a crowbar out of the rightmost thug's hand. With a spin, Farrin delivered a second kick that thrust the man into his closest ally. Lives were on the line, and there was no time to waste.
tldr: Farrin springs into action, using a temporal field to catch the bullets fired the group's way, then dashes into the rightmost thug. He kicks the crowbar right out of the thug's hand, then kicks him again, this time right into the next nearest thug.

The young hero-student’s practice patrol was supposed to wrap up soon, but there were technically no rules against his extending the patrol by choice. He had no night classes on schedule or any other obligations. It was only him and his need to grow and improve these days. Each day he built himself stronger, no matter how hollow it felt behind his walls at times. If personhood was a necessary sacrifice to become what he needed to be, then so be it.
So Farrin stood atop the building ledge. His waist cape flapped behind him as a howling wind blew. The skies were clear, but it was a nippy night with the winds blowing so fiercely. The weather did little to compromise his position. Downtown, you needed to be up high, with a sufficient line of sight over the long sweeping streets, if you wanted to be effective. He was armed with his preliminary license now. He didn’t need to worry quite as much about acting as a hero, so long as it was in the defense of himself and others. When wasn’t that the case?
Sirens blared. Two police vehicles swung around the corner and sped around the building traffic. Tokyo’s nightlife didn’t care to wait on the weekend. It was loud and proud each and every night. If the police were speeding like so, it was with reason. So, Farrin leaped from the roof he was perched on and trailed the vehicles from the rooftops. If there was trouble, he was ready to act.

Was this how some heroes lost their way? Easy to think yourself a god while sitting so high above the rest of the world. Farrin would never lose his perspective. He wasn't in it for fame or fortune. While money was a necessity to live in the modern world, in excess, it was a rot. A corruption that malformed the soul and skewed one's vision. Like his mother before him, the time-turner intended to make enough to live comfortably and use all the rest to help people however he could. He pursued this line of work to do exactly that. Save those that couldn't save themselves, and eradicate pain whenever it might be found.
A katsu sandwich. Food. There wasn't a more surefire way to break the boy from his thoughts. "If yer' willin' ta part wit' it, yuh' won't hear me say no," Farrin chirped, looking over to Kenta. Chronokinesis was a physically demanding quirk. Farrin could scarf down five full and hearty meals on his less disciplined days with zero issues. Sandwich or no, he had every intention of grabbing more food later.
"Eh, probably jus' change n' hit the trainin' field," he answered. Such was his life. Training, training, and more training. Well, except, "was thinkin' o' maybe goin' lookin' fer a part time job or somethin'. I dunno. Somethin' else ta' change things up a tad, make some money too."
Distractions were dangerous, they tempted and enticed, dared to pull Farrin away from the path he had dedicated himself to. But, a one-track mind was the most certain way to erode the soul. His training had only intensified, especially in recent months, but Farrin was losing something inside him, and he knew it. Brick by brick, he built his inner walls high and made himself stronger, but within those walls, there existed a growing emptiness—a void. Right now, a distraction that still saw him progress in this little thing called life might just be welcome.
