arrin's fist met naught but the gladiator's vambrace, then passed through the air—no meaningful damage was scored, though the students had scored a point in intel. Whatever the gladiator's quirk, it was complete intangibility. Otherwise, he wouldn't have had to guard against Farrin's first blow. His defense was conditional. When the warrior lunged for Freja, Farrin threw an arm out to catch him but the gut in an attempt to restrain him, but the villain passed through Farrin like a ghost. The propeller spun again, and with it, so did the gladiator's attention.

"It locks you into a duel you cannot hope to win."

Okay, the pieces were coming together.

"Keep still a sec," Farrin offered, sidestepping the stab, though the attack came up short- a feint. Farrin's arms rose, eating the actual attack in a firm block. Fecker hit hard, though, with enough force to send Farrin sliding back a few paces from force alone. "I'll happily knock yuh' a thousand years back." Farrin burst forward, a trigger step that sent him barreling the gladiator with a hard right jab targeting his head again.

Farrin would then double back a few steps, so he was just behind Freja. "Watch out, me' field is gonna drop in a few seconds n' let those first few rounds loose, few seconds later they'll move at full speed again." Then a second salvo came. There was no temporal flair in his mind, no warning from the future, but he couldn't afford to turn away from the gladiator, which meant he couldn't muster another field accurately to defend Freja. It was far more difficult summoning temporal fields beyond his sight lines, and even when he did, they typically cost his stamina greatly as his mind was forced to adjust without physical, sensory input. It was the same reason keeping a boosted field over his allies was so tiring, because he needed to adjust their fields with them rather than after he actually saw their movement since adjusting by sight would be too slow for a moving target. The point was that he couldn't fight in two directions at once. Freja would need to dodge the next barrage of bullets.

haos ensued. Luckily, the bellowing tuba protected Farrin from the horrid cacophony of Kaito's malfunctioning equipment. What's more, Farrin was able to play his instrument long enough to extend a protective tunnel down the remainder of the aisle and across most of the next one ahead. If they made it through to the other side, they would be deposited fairly close to the exit. But Lady Luck was a fickle mistress. Where she offered the team relatively safe passage and, for that moment, spared Farrin's ears of the aforementioned malfunctions, she taxed them in a lack of team cohesion and one large snaky boy just near the exit.

Jun had swiped away Kenta's offering, and then the lad took off down the aisle. "Wait! Nuh, I just said..." his voice dropped as the distance grew, "I said a tad distance, like in case the tuba exploded n' we needed immediate backup, no' ta' sprint fer' the end," he sighed. The situation was not quite ideal. Kenta was off in the distance, closing on the snake. Kaito was ahead, though it wasn't too late for him to turn around and opt for the tunnel that just blew out of the tuba. Jun was just at Farrin's side, and Hikari... no feckin clue.

Now that the sound was reaching Farrin, he cupped his ears for a moment, but only a moment, as another plane dived for a kamikaze attack. Farrin stood his height and chopped the toy sideways, forcing it into the nearby shelves. He couldn't manage a sprint with his legs as they were, but his reaction time was still sharp. His profound lack of speed, though, determined the next course of action.

"Go down the tunnel first. Without me' quirk, I'd slow us down bein' up front. Yuv' more weaponry between us n' could maybe use 'em magic beans ta' restrain the snake, so yuh need ta' make it ta' the other side fast n' back up Dynogel. I'll take up the rear" Farrin started. Then he would look up and shout to Kaito, "Thundercell! Tunnel 'ere will take us ta' near the exit. I suggest we take it ta' avoid takin' unnecessary damage." Assuming Jun went along with the plan and started down the tunnel, she would have some distance between her and Kaito if his gear was still rattling when he entered if he did. Whoever did opt for the tunnel, Farrin would wait until they got inside, then start down the passage after everyone made it in.

-No new gear used. Farrin suggests Jun go through the tuba tunnel first so she can reach the other side faster and help Kenta with the snake. He also suggests Kaito use the tunnel. Assuming any students use the tunnel, he enters last, not wanting to block the narrow passage since he's slow at the moment.

arrin was a machine scarfing down his food. All of it was swiftly flying down the hatch. His hand probed his pocket for the heirloom he carried, his golden pocket watch with an emerald encrusted at its heart. He thumbed the device open, eyeing the time, then returning to his meal. Time enough still to eat, rest for a few, get back to training, then move on to class.

Then he heard his name. Farrin turned to face the student who had called out to him. The table was full of unfamiliar faces. Well, one had jogged his memory back to the day of that yacht party. That was the girl that hosted it calling out to him now, right?

Well, he was caught now. It would be rude to pretend otherwise. Barty continued to encourage him to speak with other students, even outside classes. More so than usual. Maybe the big fella figured Farrin could use the distractions. So, Farrin grabbed onto his tray and moseyed on over.

"Yeah, dat's me," he answered Sumi. "N' yer' Sumi, the one that hosted the yacht party a while back, right?" He asked, taking a seat. He glanced around the table and then set his sights on Mafdet, who initially called out to him.

"N' I apologize, didn't quite catch the question. Didja ask 'bout the effect o' bones on me' quirk?" He hadn't been paying attention to everything around him when he first heard his name and wanted to be sure he heard right. "If so, I mean, move faster or slower like anythin' else I use me' quirk on, really. Nothin' particularly special."

h, right. Okay. So Jun really didn't like being touched. Farrin shrugged, looking back to Kenta a moment before turning back to Jun. "We'll make do. Fer' now we jus' need ta' keep movin'," he said, turning about to sprint back down the aisle. Sprint was a bit of a strong word for what Farrin was doing, at least compared to his usual speed. The sticker Kenta planted on his forehead lost its adhesiveness and peeled away, slowing him back down to slug speeds. Ridiculous. If mama O'Rourke saw him like this, she'd have disowned him. Not really... well, maybe.

Farrin's gaze shifted about. Jun still had her car door—the other guy. Kenta had lobbed his drone out into the air while taking off down the aisle. Hikari was, for the moment, out of sight. He couldn't move pieces not seen on the board, but he could plan around them. Do something for everyone's benefit. Optimal tactics.

None of the original drones were targeting him, but a few stray rounds passed through the flames of the exploding aisle and slapped Farrin in the shoulder. Another few struck his ribs, and the lad was sent into a sideways roll. "Feckin' banjaxed bullshite," he cursed, eyeing Kenta's out-of-control equipment. His hero outfit had eaten the worst of the damage, but that was going to bruise. His hands patted down smoldering flames.

Another round flew just overhead. Plushies set ablaze and reached for his back. Farrin dove forward, this time into the center of the aisle. Either they could trail the edge of the aisles, near the shelves where the toys threatened to grab them or continue down the center where the drones would have a clear shot. Lose-lose situation. Unacceptable.

Farrin's finger danced in the air, navigating his digital menu until it fell on the device he needed. "Nothin' ventured, nothin' gained," he muttered to himself.

"Oi! Uh," Farrin paused for a moment, calling on the roster the team was provided with before the assignment, "Thundercell!" That was it. That was his name. "Thundercell, Mood Ring, gimme some cover! Dynogel, keep a tad distance in case dis' dun' work. Whatever gear yuh' got left, be ready ta' use it if needed." Hikari? Well, he still didn't see her, but she could crawl in after them if she was nearby. It was something at least.

A tuba would spawn would spawn in Farrin's arms. He took aim, inhaled deep, and then blew into the instrument for as long as he could. It would be a trudge, requiring they crouch a bit, but if the device served its intended purpose, a fairly strong tubular tunnel would extend down the aisle, offering them relatively safe passage. Of course, plastic would melt over time, but unless the blaze blew into a searing inferno, they would be safe for most of the trip down the aisle.

- After confirming Jun was okay, Farrin took off down the aisle, but was caught by a few rounds from Kenta's rogue drone. He called out for Kaito and Jun to keep him covered while using his tuba item to create some decently safe passage, and asked Kenta to keep ready to cover the trio in case his plan backfires.

ow fortunate UAU's cafeteria offered a most plentiful menu. Farrin eyed the burger and fries on his tray. Was it the healthiest option? Absolutely not. Had mama O'rourke been around, she would have smacked him into next week for his choice. Fun food on a weekday? Never. But, he had been training hard atop his hill in the training grounds. And after passing the moving-up exam and officially being moved into a second-year class, well, he could afford a cheat meal.

A sanguine stare watched as his many peers marched this way and that. This far along the hero track, he still hadn't many people he considered friends, and most's schedules saw them in class at this hour, but not all. Maybe a familiar face or two would be about. But not yet. Not that he saw, at least. So, he tended to his prize meal. A taste of the greasy goods of home.

A few fries down the hatch, then a rather monstrous bite into his burger. "That hits the spot," he muttered to himself. He was alone at his table as well, only a few over from Akaiken, but then, he didn't recognize the girl, so there wasn't much reason to make note of it in his eyes. Nope, for the moment, his attention was entirely fixed on his food. He had another hour or so until his next class. That was time to eat, get back out to the training field for a quick run, and then head back in for class. First. Item number one. Eat. The body needed fuel, especially when one ran at the time-turned speeds he did. Even if that fuel maybe wasn't of the best quality.

he subject was dropped like a sack of bricks. The past lay beyond a door, the key to which was to be earned, not taken. Farrin wasn't one to share. How could he blame another for batting down the hatch? As long as the other day wasn't weighing her down, he had done his part to try.

"Well enough," he said, not probing any further and instead opting to listen to her explanation. "So, are the limits by way o' category? Like, can anger only create weapons where somethin' like hope might be that fence n' the like?" In essence, he was asking if the nature of the construct was connected to the emotion, "or is more that yuh' pre-assign a construct ta' an emotion? Like could yuh' make that fence out o' anger, just in theory?"

Farrin had suggested to Kenta that he seek Jun out for some pointers. He was looking for some inspiration on how to use his gel-based quirk differently. It wasn't an exact match, but he could form some weapons and the like of his own with that gel, so there were some similarities. Farrin was a combat savant, but his methodology was far more direct. He had the tools he had, namely his mitts, and he used them by throwing a whole bunch of speed and force behind them.

"I suppose I just think shorin' up yer defenses wit' the best possible techniques fer' those situations yuh' are caught off guard would do yuh' best, but I won't tell yuh' how ta' do yer' thing," he finally answered the last bit. "Jus', if yuh' sock the guy in the face well 'nuff, yuh' might not need ta' break out the chains ta' begin wit'. Conserver yer' strength n' all that."

omething wasn't right. What was simply couldn't be. What the hell was Tomio doing here? How did even make it down here when his bad knee? Even with public transportation, it would have taken the old fella over an hour.

"I dun' like this," he muttered, coming up behind Freja.

And his concerns were justified all too soon. Farrin had only just passed Freja when she suddenly stopped. He hadn't turned with her, but her words were warning enough.

"Farrin, look out!''

His scarlet stare burned gold again. Chronkinesis was back up, and with it, Farrin saw the danger before it arrived. The blade had passed through Freja, and not-Tomio was firing on her. Had his quirk been up a moment sooner, maybe he could have stopped both. Not now.

A wave of the hand and a field formed ahead of the firearms fire. The bullets lost nearly all momentum while within the cubical deceleration field. Farrin hopped off his right foot, lunging ahead, albeit in a mid-air turn to face the gladiator. The blade shaved the skin off the front of his knee and nicked bone but didn't break anything. Still, Farrin fell backward into a roll.

"Ah, my knee," he called out, grabbing at his leg. "Aren't yuh' a few millennia outta place? Colosseum is pretty far west from 'ere."

Farrin spun up onto his feet, then leaped off his left foot into a hard right jab aimed for the gladiator's jaw. Those propellors were problematic, but Farrin was nothing if not fast and precise. He threw one shot, then would try for a second and third. Hopefully, he wouldn't pass through the gladiator the way Freja had.

arrin had to bite back a laugh when Jo mentioned the importance of academics. Yes, knowing one's maths, language skills, sciences, and all the rest was important. You never knew, well, what you needed to know and how it might factor into the interplay of quirks, or just life in general. But at the end of the day Farrin needed to know best how to use his powers to secure the innocent and defeat the malicious. If he could swoop in fast enough to clear the block of innocent bystanders and the injured, then come about and detain the bads, he would call it doing a good job.

"Eh, I ne'er was the best in school," traditional schooling, he meant, but she would likely get it. Though to be honest, Farrin's traditional schooling had quite the gap. Seven years homeless and living on the streets would do that to you. He had to catch up fast when the folks at Above & Beyond brought him over to Japan. "But, I give it what I got. Won't let it me' grades there slip up." I'm just more focused on the hero work, he didn't say.

It was a long climb, a mix of actual rock climbing due to interruptions along the main path, and some more relaxed paces taken along the parts still intact. Eventually, though, they neared the mountain's peak. The topic of vigilantism eventually sprung up, though, which was a little odd. Or maybe less so than Farrin thought, given his current company's secret.

"Eh. Hero society is rooted in vigilantism," he started, considering his words and holding them against his feelings, making sure it all lined up. "I agree in that I do believe, one day, it would be best if e'eryone lookin' ta' defend the people were licensed. But, we dun' live in an ideal world. Quirks only emerged some fifty years ago. We're all still tryin' ta' figure out what's right n' wrong n' how best ta' protect people. While I dun' condone it, I can understand the appeal o' voidin' all the red tape. I dun' agree wit' it entirely, but if the person knows what they're doin', are skilled enough not ta' hurt the wrong people, n' have the right intentions, I feel they deserve some leniency n' understandin'. Illegal is illegal ta' be certain, but if I see one person illegally defendin' people n' one illegally attackin' 'em, I know who I'm goin' after."

It was true. He wasn't the biggest fan of vigilantism. If everyone ran around enforcing their own flavor of justice, the world would be in utter chaos. But there was no denying heroism's roots. And if there was a skilled vigilante who was only doing what they believed was right, and that didn't entail hurting the innocent, he wasn't going to put the effort into chasing them as he would a real deal criminal. All that conversation would come to fade, though, as they finally reached Fuji's peak. And into the crater, his eyes wandered.

"Would yuh' look at that," he said, eyeing the expanse of once-volcanic stone. Maybe it didn't appear to be all that much at first glance, but when one considered where they stood and what they were seeing, a certain appreciation was bound to bloom.

edge of Farrin's lips curled into the slightest smirk. He took pride in his progress. It justified the decisions made. Sada made him promise to keep studying at UAU rather than tag along so he could achieve his dream, and he was doing exactly that. The temporal thread that was his existence was caught between sunshine and the storm. Dark clouds rolled in from one direction, while supernova strength burned brilliantly and bright in the other. He longed for normal, but he couldn't deny who he was becoming. Oberon.

"Well, I took the movin' up exam recently. Just waitin' fer the results, but if I passed, I'll be considered a "second-year" student," he started. UAU was a bit different. You could progress at a normal pace, but there was an option to take up moving up exams to climb through the grades all the sooner. Or at least, that's roughly how it was explained to him. "I hold up decently in academics, but I've been landin' top marks across our hero course classes."

The conversation would carry as the two paved their path up the mountainside. Foot by foot, inch by inch, they scaled the famed mountain. They would pass the occasional climbers and others making the trek for mountain day, but luckily, it was far from crowded. Probably for the best, considering how high up they were.

"Really, I'm jus' waitin' fer em' ta' announce the Provisional License Exam so I can do some real good out there," he would explain as they continued on up. "Yuh' know, be able ta' help people when there's danger without any rules gettin' the way." Josephine might not have known the extent to which Farrin had already warred with criminality, but perhaps there was humor to be found in the fact that one of his greatest allies while taking to the streets was Peacekeeper, even if he didn't know that's who he was talking to.

afety came only in the head start Farrin had on his run and the scattering of enemy ranks. The tear gas had exceeded his expectations. Blinding the enemy alone was the goal, but the monkey dolls were wholly disoriented. Perhaps simulating actual crooks? Whatever the case, some ran into each other, others slammed into the aisles and fell over. Chaos among enemy ranks. That would buy the team time. Or it would have if not for the buzz of forward propellors above.

That was going to be a problem.

"Wha?" Farrin started to ask as Kenta passed him.

A slap to the head and the worldly weight holding Farrin abated. Even if only slightly. Okay, now what Kenta made sense, and he delivered just on time, too. Rubber rounds or something of the sort pelted the ground, shredding tiled flooring and the shelf just behind Farrin. Toys poured out and nearly over the lad, but with a modicum of speed restored, Farrin leaped into a roll, then darted forward. He rose to tactical analysis. Hikari was up ahead. The other student was taking off as well. Meanwhile, Kenta had scaled a nearby aisle, and Jun, well, Jun was in some trouble.

Rather than speed ahead, Farrin double-backed down the path and kicked at one of the dolls holding Jun, then tried to stomp on another. He couldn't keep up a sprint due to the tears in his leg muscles, but Farrin still had strength in bursts. He could still fight like few others, and even divorced of chronokinesis he hit like a tank.

With a quick tap of the menu, he took another tear gas grenade and lobbed it back at the gathered monkey dolls. The fliers were an issue, but the gas from his prior attack would clear soon. He couldn't do anything about the former problem, but he could keep the monkeys back a little longer. If Jun found herself free of the toys, he would offer her a hand to help her up. "Yuh' good?" He'd ask. If all went well, he'd turn to start back down the aisle while the ridiculous sticker on his head was speeding him up.

-Farrin moved back toward Jun, swung at two of the toys attacking her, lobbed another tear gas grenade at the monkey dolls to keep that threat off them for a little longer, then tried to help Jun up and turned to start running back down the aisle.
