Fatigue may have weighed his arms, but with one wrapped around the soft warmth of his Sada, everything was right in the world. She was safe, so were her charges, and the villain had been subdued, for now at least. It was déjà vu. Time impressed the visage in his mind a hundred times over. The two of them stood triumphant against all odds. Him and his love.
“I’m glad yer’ alright,” he whispered, kissing her forehead.
Exhaustion couldn’t dampen Farrin’s contentment. They had done some good, and nobody was harmed. With that in mind, it seemed it was time to head back to campus. That was until the mystery man draped in the color of cold voids and death arrived. This was a man of the church?
Farrin’s breath was slow. His head leaned down against Sada’s horn when the Pastor introduced himself. Slowly, he righted himself and took Marsh’s hand in kind for a shake. Firstly, was it alright to trust this man with his real name? If the pastor reported the incident, including Sada or Farrin’s name, and UAU caught wind of it, they could get in trouble. On the other hand, the fella seemed keen to welcome and thank them. Deceit wasn’t deeply rooted in Farrin’s nature. He lied or omitted certain truths when necessary, but he didn’t like it.
“Farrin. Farrin O’Rourke,” he chirped with a pained smile, “though I’d ‘preciate it if yuh’ didn’t go tellin’ the authorities that. Rather keep our names out o’ such things,” he answered, looking to Sada should she introduce herself as well.
It was a vague response, but it got the message across.
“N’, uh, well, yuh’ sure the place shouldn’t be fixed up a tad before takin’ people back in?” Farrin asked, eyeing the gaping hole in the wall, the fallen chandelier, and the pews which littered the hold ground’s floor - all disorganized like. Yeah, the place was a mess.

Beneath his mask, though he would loath to admit it, a tinge of awe crept across the Ouroboros Fang's features. What was the Alpha waiting for? These ones were growing - fast. They needed to be dealt with immediately.
That's when the scales appeared. A murder of crows had swept down into the battlefield, each dispersed into shadows, leaving a scale in its place. The Fangs made up Ouroboros' most capable agents, but without the scales, the organization would lack numbers. Reinforced armor, enhanced physicality, exceptional training. They weren't Ouroboros's best; some were even without quirks despite the organization's goals, but they were the greatest pawns a king could ask for.
Four lined Alastor's sides, two focusing on Farrin and two more looking to Miroru, each holding automatic rifles. Below, six more appeared, three to each of the children's back. Together, they opened fire.
Farrin turned to Miroru's words, only a split moment before the scales fired. With a wave of the hand, one field slowed the bullets flying his way. With scales physically blocking his view on their approach, he couldn't see Miroru's end of the street as well, though he would raise a field above, his attention now on the revealed member of Ouroboros and the above firing squad. She would have to cut off the guns of her below attackers like she did during the exam or something, but he could help by slowing the bullets whizzing in from above.
An armored glove snatched the time-turner by the throat. "Dammit," he cursed, his father's visage picking him up off the ground as he rose. Rebellion continued to flood his veins. Something had clearly been burning in Miroru, burning in them both. It was time to set the fire loose. Farrin's fist crackled with emerald sparks. He slammed it into the dark knight's helmet again, then a second and third time. As Balor drew his free fist back, Farrin grabbed the arm, holding him up, and pulled. He threw his leg up in a kick, which cracked against the villain's helmet, sending him back another step.
A moment of weakness. One single moment. It was all Farrin needed. He jabbed the inside of Balor's elbow and dropped onto the ground. In a blink, he was back a few meters, trading blows with the scales, then back on Balor.
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Alastor shouted.
His influence over the fear constructs was, in fact, limited, but an emotional outburst in him was reflected in his creations. Balor clenched his fist, and this time, a gravity well pulled on the entire block. Farrin was slammed into the ground again. This - thing - wasn't as strong as it used to be. Farrin was slow to move, but he could pick himself up. What's more, the gravity affected everyone. Chronokinesis would be erratic but exposed long enough, and he could acclimate. Meanwhile, the scales were being weighed down as well. He and Miroru could still do this. They could win. So far away, he haunted Farrin still. Bled those dreams black and lifeless until all they were were a husk. His nightmares.
The world was torn asunder. Heroes bloodied. Broken. Dead. Countless innocents were murdered on a whim. Life lost to a passing fancy. One day, he stood among the mighty and the great. The next, he was gone. A monster condemned for an unspeakable evil. His reasons? Unknown to this day.
Sweat dribbled down Farrin's brow. The scene played over and over again. Under the weight of the world and a thousand more, she runs. Where buildings crumble, the Crimson Light persists. She sears stone in her passing. Cracks Balor's dark armor with her signature Crimson Smash. The problem is she's up against the Singularity, armed with gravity so powerful it could trap even light. The screaming. All these years - the screaming never faded.
Those sifting nightmares only abated by Sada's side. Healing his mind, as well as his heart, even in her sleep. He stirs with her kiss, turning just enough to kiss her back. "Luv' yuh' more," the words come all raspy, weighed by the hours of waking. Yeah, Mother's Day was some real shite, but it was shite he didn't have to face himself anymore. The extra three or so, however, likely amounted to half of Sada's "travel" attire. "Yuh' sure yer' no' packin' too lightly?" he teased, checking her out head to toe while his dragoness sprung from one side of the room to the other. Oh, Sada was packing alright, certified baddie, but right now, they were talking about bags. Many bags. "I think yuh' might need more."
He leaned into her for the kiss. Passion wasn't a halfhearted affair. And he was certainly passionate about his Sada. She was strawberries and sugar and all things sweet. Mesmerizing. His living addiction, and the very best kind. Not to others, though. Not most, at least. Her father, perhaps least of all. Things could get awkward in the Tanaka household around this time of year, but Farrin did his best to level his lady out. After all, even if she disdained her father, Sugi was there. That was a reason to go.
"If yer heart is set on it, sweets, I'll go wit' yuh' anywhere. I do think you should probably see yer' brother, though."
He meant every word. If absolutely opposed to seeing her family, he would happily get lost in the woods with Sada and create mischief. They were fire and air, feeding each other and growing, a pressure that built and built and built to infinity because the world couldn't handle it. He set the bags down and scooped his dragoness up into another kiss, pinning her against him, one hand tucked in her beautiful flowing pink hair, the other latched onto her back.
"But, wherever yuh' go, I go."
Growth and responsibility were all about doing things you didn't feel like doing because it was right. She should see her family, but they didn't have to be responsible today if she didn't want to. At the end of the day, all that mattered was that whatever they did, they did it together. If she wanted to run, there was no one better to run alongside. If she wanted to see her family, he would be right there with her. As it was meant to be.

Farrin was getting stronger. He scaled one plateau after another. And these new heights demanded more of him than the personal weights he kept in his room. An inexplicable something deep inside him was changing. Whether this change came courtesy of chronokinesis or some other power-that-be remained shrouded by mystery. As were the costs this strength, these changed, would demand of him.
"What time we lookin' at?" He muttered to himself, snatching his pocket watch up from the nightstand beside his bed and thumbing the golden heirloom open. "Half hour. Plenty o' time."
It might as well have been days. Farrin jumped in for a quick shower, then darted downstairs to pick up his laundry. His return was marked by depositing the laundry and sorting the weights onto the appropriate rack. After that, he beelined for the closet. Rather than the usual workout wear, he opted for a white t-shirt with a fair V cut and threw on some dark jeans. Finally, a silver chain to complete the fit. Those were words and concepts prioritized only for one. Who cared what others thought of his outerwear on the daily? It was only when his Sada was factored in that he considered his clothing for anything but practicality and comfort.
A spritz of cologne here and there, and he was ready to seize the day alongside his world. Speaking of which, the moment she knocked on the door, it was open. There she was. Light of his life, warmth to his heart. When she leaned in to kiss him, it was as natural as breathing to loop his arm around her and pull her into him. Fight hard. Love harder. He nearly scooped her up to bring her back inside but withheld. They had places to be. Fun to have. A date to go on.
So, when he let her back down on those impractical but extremely cute heels, he offered a smile and some words. "Luv' yuh' most. N' I said it first, so I win," he teased, laying down the facts.
"You tell me, beautiful," he then answered, "though I'm hearin' somethin' 'bout a god recently rediscovered that dun' have a shrine but apparently did many a good deed in his day. Maybe we see what that's all 'bout." Wishes for a five yen piece? Sounded like a good god to him.

His sweetie came in the clutch and gave him exactly what he needed. Farrin wouldn’t waste the opportunity Sada gifted him. This most recent gift, in addition to all the others, her very existence, he would cherish.
The chandelier came crashing down. A comical, wooden prison locking the giant’s arms to his sides. It wouldn’t take him long to break free, but Farrin didn’t need long. He kneeled low, nearly into a runner’s start, then blasted ahead. He drew his arm back. The strength. The tension. It rapidly built, and the man made a locomotive. The wind blew the pews away in Farrin’s passing, though they hadn’t shattered. And when the threshold was crossed, he leaped.
“Smash!” He shouted.
It was the imperfect version of a technique he was working on. One based on his mother’s signature move. Imperceptibly minute fields of temporal power sparked just ahead of his fists. Dozens. Hundred. Countless numbers of them. Some slowed. Others accelerated. His fist was the ignition. With a thunderous boom and a heavy gust, the jab connected with the giant’s chin, rocketing him into the air before he plummeted back down, flying outside the building and crashing in the street.
Farrin landed, immediately falling to his knees. His right arm was pulsing pain - sharp stabs picking the limb apart. There was no bleeding, but the blowback from the attack was a costly one. That many fields, all hyper-concentrated to create a tearing effect, taxed the time-turner.
“Sonova-” he started to curse, pushing off his knee and onto his feet.
His breath was heavy, but the beast of man was down for the count. So, Farrin lumbered over in Sada’s direction. “E’eryone alright o’er there?” The question was mostly for Sada, but he hoped everyone else was okay too. One of these days, he would get in trouble for his heroic actions off campus, but that was later Farrin’s problem. For now, all that mattered was his Sada and the people she was protecting.

Every moment lost to indecision was another opportunity for villainy to rob a family of their loved one, to steal another life from the world. Hopefully, the stakes weren't so high. Hopefully, they had time. Maybe it was a small accident and sounded worse than it was. But Farrin didn't bet on maybes. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.
"I intend ta' evaluate the situation, gauge fer' potential danger, call the authorities if so, n' act if necessary," he called back, starting on ahead.
Memories flooded Farrin's mind. A singular moment. His mum driving the car. "Remember me' little one, hesitation costs lives on th' road. E'eryone startin' n' stoppin' n' the whole mash. Makin' messes o' th'whole ting. Gotta keep it movin'." Of course, his mother didn't need to drive often. She was the fastest hero he knew of, but that wouldn't do when carting a child around. Farrin didn't know how to drive back then, but the lesson stuck with him. Hesitation kills.
"Good call," he admitted, jumping into the air and using that new technique he had been practicing with Miroru. A high concentration of temporal acceleration just below his boot at the end of a kick, and he could effectively thrust himself upward through the air. "Skywalking." With one air step propelling him upward, Farrin latched onto the railing of a nearby fire escape, then knocked the ladder down for Jun in case she needed it. Then he darted up the outer stairwell.
Farrin would wait a moment for Jun, assuming she followed. Another scream. "Please stop!" The words followed. "Sounds like it's comin' from that way," he pointed east, then continued along the rooftops.
The gap between buildings along this side of the block was relatively small. He could leap from one to another without that little air step maneuver, which was for the best. He hadn't mastered the technique yet. Luckily, they were close enough to the source of the screaming he wouldn't need to skywalk at all. When they reached the last building on the block, the scene became clear. A few thugs had a man pinned in an adjacent alleyway. One thug was holding a woman back with a hand muffling her mouth. Meanwhile, the thugs dug into the poor sod pinned against the wall, hammering his gut repeatedly.
"Shite," he cursed. They weren't supposed to act, but what were they to do? Let some bullies beat down or even kill someone? No. Absolutely not. "I'm gonna try ta' gettem outta there. Call the authorities?" He offered her the out. They were supposed to stay out of danger; those were the rules, but that wasn't heroism. That wasn't saving people. He could try to get the man and woman out of there without fighting, but he absolutely would fight if he had to. If Jun wanted to sit back and do as they were told, she could. Farrin knew what he had to do.

Judging by their height, and when combined with that voice, well, they very well could be. Farrin heaved, considering that some tween might have been swinging around the city like that old spider guy comic, taking on crime at an even younger age than the protagonist of that series.
"Yer," Farrin paused, breathing in deep, "yer no' a kid, are yuh?" He started to ask as she went to work, tying the demolition man out. "I 'preciate the help n' all, but I certainly help some ten yer' old tyke isn't out 'ere doin' the grown-ups job."
Of course, one could argue Farrin was still a kid. It was all relative. A teen, compared to someone deeper in their twenties or older, was just as much a child as a twelve-year-old was to an eighteen-year-old. Either way, despite the voice, it wasn't all that likely, right? What ten-year-old could move and fight like that? A question best left unanswered.
"Shame," he eventually added, looking toward the titan's face. "I didn't want ta' hurt 'em. He seemed distressed, but big fella was causin' too much damage, puttin' people at risk." At the edge of the street, a few onlookers hid behind overturned cars. This Farrin was strong or capable enough yet to fix the block and all the damage done. He could pacify threats, albeit with aid occasionally, but there was still so much to learn.
"Well, thanks again fer' backin' me up there, n' last time too. Speakin' o' which, well, do yuh've a name I yuh' preferred ta' be called by?" He asked, repeating the question he posed at the end of their last encounter. She had left before he could get an answer last time. Maybe now he could put a name to the webbed-up face.

Another clipped his knee, slowing his sprint back into an awkward hobble, but unlike the start of the year, Farrin could return fire. The linear cannons lit up as light trailed their munitions. One bot. Three. Five went down. Still, there were more.
"Bloody hell," Farrin cursed.
While the initial gathering of machines was planted proverbial ass to grass, more continued to stream in from the rest of the mock city. Emi was swamped by a few bots as well. He hadn't been loud enough to force the entire collective's attention on himself. He needed to be faster. Hit harder. Do more damage.
"Tch, alrighty then!" Farrin shouted, leaping into the air, then using another acceleration field to air step just a few feet higher. As gravity began to take hold, the time-turner aimed. From above, the view of the field was clear. Aside from the mechanical weights looking to hold Emi down as she approached the bomb, there were a half dozen villain bots left.
He was an easy target now, but so were they. Fire was exchanged. Stun rounds flying up above and soaring below. He took another hit to the ribs, but it cost the bots half their ranks as Farrin shifted targets, knocking two down with ease, then catching a third just after. Farrin's imperfect aim spared the fourth. Even with the world moving slower in his eyes, catching moving targets while falling was no easy task. Another shot clipped his shin, but two more machines dropped. Finally, as Farrin fell to the ground, the alarm blaring as Emi pulled the plug on the bomb, an armored boot connected with the final bot's arm.
Farrin slammed hard into the ground. His new hero outfit absorbed some impact, but pain flared up from every direction. The boy was sheer pulsating pain, but he held a hand up, thumb raised. "Good job, Lodestar," the words were almost as beat up as he was, delivered as he sat up. Yup, he would feel this for a few hours, but they had won!

[attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] Oof, shattered the Golem's leg entirely wasn't quite Farrin's objective, but it was self-defense against some areshole who was about to bleed someone's brains across the pavement. So he wouldn't beat himself up about it. The Golem was breathing. What's more, he was still swinging. Well... flailing. The bat swung so slow it hadn't set off Farrin's temporal senses. Without proper form, the swing wouldn't hit too hard, right?
Farrin's left arm rose to block the blow. A psychological tactic. If it shattered or he went unfazed, it might scare the rest of them. Unfortunately, it was swung by a man made of stone. The crack still landed hard Farrin grimaced, but he kept his composure. This was despite the new pain pulsing up his left arm.
When the shark-man charged, though, Farrin was ready to meet the villain in kind. Except, of course, Farrin was far faster. The time-turner darted forward, then leaped. The shark started to sidestep, but not before Farrin's boot slammed into his nose. The student sprung off the giant of a man and up into the air. That's when he felt it. A flare in the back of his brain. Time warning him of danger. His head swiveled left, then right. Nothing. It was when he looked below that the danger found him.
The world was spinning in his eyes. Slowly, again due to his accelerated senses, but spinning nonetheless. Rather than fall with his arms and legs out at a proper distance to catch the wind, he was off-mark. A temporal deceleration field shaped like a mat caught him, though it only lasted for a second. He couldn't afford to move slowly in the middle of a fight. His momentum was slowed, but the second the field dissipated, he slammed into the ground with a thud.
"What the shite? Plastered? I dun' e'en drink," he muttered, picking himself up.
Dozens of eyes flooded his vision. His balance was off. His quirk was still up, the world still moving slowly, but these were not the ideal conditions for a proper scrap. His left arm still pulsed, and his knees felt the fall, even if he did slow himself. This was turning out to be messier than anticipated.
"Yup, yup, I got 'em," he replied, too disoriented to consider what was being conveyed. A civi fighting for themselves? Almost unheard of. Maybe she was ex-military or something? Those were questions for later. He had other problems at the moment.
