A nearly imperceptible smile. Even given the perfect out of the situation, Zenkai knew it was time to step up. Even if he did so begrudgingly. Farrin nodded, then started back into the chaos.
"Well, just remember I gave yuh' a chance ta' back out," he said, almost jokingly. There was a fair chance they would get in trouble if caught taking action in the field. Try as the two might to strictly play damage control, a nasty scrap was almost undeniably in their future. Didn't need chronokinesis to see that.
"Let's head in the direction o' that explosion from before. More than a fair chance some people are hurtin' o'er that way."
Farrin started back down the street they came from, but rather than fully retrace their steps, he cut into an alleyway on their right. Trash and debris, but no bodies. Good. But how long would it stay that way? Dark smoke continued to stab at the sky in the east, which was likely ground zero of the explosion. Haste and focus came in equal measure. Farrin was locked on target. The next few minutes passed in silence. The occasional pop and rattle of far-off firearms plagued the day, but Farrin continued to weave between buildings.
A few coughs. Even more screams. That's what the two would be met with as they exited the final alleyway. He was right. It was a gas station up in flames. A few charred bodies lay near the blown-open pumps. The coughs and groans stemmed from the duo's left. A few injured civilians lined the sidewalk across the street. Further down the block, a few goons fired their weapons into the sky. Temptation grew - swelled in Farrin's gut. It balled his fist and whispered in his ear.
"Let's get these people outta 'ere. Keep an eye o' those feckers, though. We might need ta' defend ourselves."
Again, he wished for it. But his words rang in his core. Heroism was about protecting people first and foremost. Start a fight with the crooks, and the people might get hurt. One thing at a time.

Patrols occupied the greatest sum of most heroes' time. It was about honing the discipline required, and there was always more to learn. Signs of danger that could only be picked up on in the field. Of course, she wasn't wrong regarding hero agencies. Farrin learned just as much from the Above & Beyond agency since his arrival in Japan, if not more than he had in Hero Prep. If anything, they were the reason he was the person he was today. Still, neglecting patrols felt unwise.
"I guess if an agency has taken yuh' under their wing, n' brings yuh' about on their patrols that cover the same experience, but if not, I dun' feel it's the best move ta' ignore 'em outright."
Theirs was a career path bathed in blood. The average life expectancy for a hero was rather short. Few made it into their thirties. Even fewer made it out. Every iota of practice, experience, and skill counted. At least if she was voiding her duty to sharpen that patrol acumen, it seemed she was making it up elsewhere.
"But, whatever works fer' yuh'. S'long as yuh'-"
A high-pitched shriek cut the time-turner off. It wasn't some shrill laughter. That was the sound of fear. A quiet night just wasn't in the book for the student duo. Someone needed their help.
"C'mon," he said, his eyes shifting into golden clock dials as chronokinesis activated, "That, we've ta' trace that sound ta' the source." Without another word, Farrin was off - his speed dialed up, but not cranked up to full quite yet.

Yeah, before Kei had built the linear cannons, Farrin's only option was to close the distance between himself and his enemies. Time-turning made that significantly easier, but there were flying enemies to consider. Potential teleportation quirks, too. And, however doubtful, the possibility of someone even faster than himself.
"Well, it worked. Kept yuh' in one piece n' without any injury. I'd say it did the job."
Farrin turned to the sound of clatter metal. Further down the long corridor, the remaining villain bots assembled. They weren't aiming yet, but it wouldn't be long. If that's where Emi saw the bomb, now was the time to make their move. Artillery in the form of Emi's throwing arm would be nice, but they couldn't risk damaging the bomb. In a real-world scenario, that might make the explosive impossible to disarm. All they had to do in the simulation was pull a few wires, but the clock was counting down. Still, time was Farrin's ally and a powerful ally it was.
"I'm gonna rush in n' try ta' hold their attention, then you charge in n' bring the hammer down on any I dun' pick off. While I'm runnin' circles 'round 'em, you pull the plug on the bomb. Sound good?"
Assuming Emi was on board with the plan, Farrin would dart ahead. The street was mostly barren, with only minimal cover. A death sentence for most, but Farrin perceived the world faster than others and reacted faster in kind. It all seemed so slow in his eyes. So, he burst down the block, dodging the stun rounds, and the villain bots opened fire. His wrists rose, firing stun rounds of his own from the linear cannons in his gloves. Two machines were knocked out of the fight before he reached the square that housed the bomb.
When the distance was crossed, Farrin went to work. His fists flew, and bots were broken. The arms and legs of would-be criminals were snapped. Like the others he had faced, they would live if they were human, but they would be hurting for quite a while. The time-turner ran circles in the square, doing his best to hold the bots' attention and clear the path for Emi.

The air burned with the sheer speed at which the saw spun, but that burning sensation was at Farrin's back. An armored boot found purchase against the building wall, and Farrin kicked off to send himself across the street.
"Wh- wuuuhhh duhh, geeee oooofffff" The metal titan's words were muffled, courtesy of the "webs" that shut his mouth and stuck to his nose.
With no real hands in this form, the mad lad couldn't wipe the webs off. His options were saw blades or wrecking balls, both were liable to do irreparable harm. Yet, the longer he waited, the more aggressive he grew. The walking demolition site didn't go pale or blue, but he swung wildly, carving through nearby buildings or obliterating them under the weight of the wrecking balls. Lady Web was on the money. The giant still needed to breathe. It was a solid tactic. Genius really. The only problem was the damage he would do before falling unconscious.
This was one of those gray areas Farrin hadn't really encountered yet. It didn't feel right. The big guy was all but dealt with and clearly in distress, but he was also tearing down the neighborhood, swinging those giant saw blades and the wrecking balls. People fled into the streets, out of the buildings, as they were ruined. A scowl crept across Farrin's face. He didn't want to attack, but what choice was left?
The moment the time-turner landed on the next rooftop, he was turning about and kicking off again. "Sorry, big fella," he muttered, kicking off the edge of the roof and into the air. Temporal power swirled around his fist as microscopic fields of both temporal acceleration and deceleration flared just ahead of his knuckles. Mercy came in the form of a quick end to the battle. He needed to knock the big guy out quickly. So, as he fell from the air, Farrin's fist flew ahead and connected with the titan's head again. This time, the titan stumbled back and crashed into the building behind him. Farrin's earlier blow might not have done too much damage, but deprived of air, the titan was far more vulnerable. This time, the giant didn't recover. He was alive, but down for the moment.

Farrin wasn't being paid a cent to lend a hand here. As a matter of fact, he needed the thugs to take the first swing at him. Then, he could claim self-defense and, as a hero student, could act without legal or academic repercussions. He was supposed to avoid danger, even while on practice patrols, not leap straight into it, but he couldn't square that away with his conscience. Student or not, to leave people to their fate when that fate entailed harm or even death wasn't heroism. Likewise, even wearing the student title, Farrin knew he was capable. He could help. So he did.
"The lot o' yuh' talk too much," he said, a grin of his own to meet theirs.
His comment earned the downward thrust of the bat from the golem. In Farrin's clock-dial eyes, it was a rather glacial affair. His passage through time was accelerated, which meant everything around him appeared to move slowly. So, he sidestepped the swing and threw his balled-up fist into the golem's jaw. Pain flared in his knuckles. His hero outfit protected him from most damage, but that didn't mean he didn't feel it. Punching stone was probably not the brightest idea, but he hadn't spent all those hours training on campus against the rocky spires in the practice facilities for nothing. Farrin's jabs landed like cannon fire.
Whether it was enough to see the giant reel or not, Farrin would draw his knee up toward his chest, then thrust his foot down into the golem's shin next. If his anatomy still shared similarities with your average Joe, that would draw out some reaction. Plus, it wouldn't hurt Farrin as much as the punch courtesy of his armored boot. He needed the others to take their swings as well. Once it became entirely obvious that not only the Golem but the whole group meant him harm, he could fight back against the rest.

It was going... going... gone. "Eh, I'm no' so sure that was the best move," he said, continuing back onto the path and away from the student who had set all the dummies up and was now giving the duo the angriest glare. There were hardly any dummies left for him to practice on himself. They would remedy the situation and make it up to the lad one day. Just not today. Today, they had lightsabers to make.
So, trying to forget the massive dummy just lobbed out into the world, Farrin continued down the path beside Zen toward the support lab. It wouldn't be long before the two arrived. The labs were just a short trek from the campus's main lecture hall and cafeteria, only just down the way when following along the training grounds.
Moseying on inside, Farrin's head swiveled, keeping an eye out for Kei or Ana. They still had much of the building to search, but the odds were either could put a lightsaber together. Ana would likely require they sign some forms with fine print they would need to go over, though, so in this instance, Kei was preferable.
"Have anyone in particular in mind? I'm sure there's quite a few mad lads in 'ere that could put some sabers together." But if Zenkai knew anyone in particular that Farrin didn't, well, it would be easier if there weren't too many questions asked.
"N' what color yuh' thinkin'?"
Now, Farrin was firmly one of the good guys. Had the rules of Star Wars and the force been suddenly thrust onto the universe's shoulders, he would be a Jedi. But that didn't mean he would look like one. He was all for that Sith aesthetic. Definitely a red blade.

Farrin shouted to the support student. After shifting the couch left, then right, then more right, then left again, Farrin was given the okay to go find Kei so they could step away for a bit. It wasn't the weight of the furniture that had tuckered Farrin out. It was the prolonged exposure to so many people and the toll it had taken on his social battery. Kei was in the thick of it, so if anything, he had it worse.
"C'mon, I think there's a decent ramen spot nearby."
Was it almost touristy of him to instantly opt for ramen? Maybe, but whatever, that's what he was hungry for, and unless Kei had any better alternatives, it would do. Assuming Kei followed along, Farrin would turn about and make for blue double doors that led to the hallway connecting to the main lobby and front entrance.
Once outside, Farrin stretched his arms as far as they reached and, with a yawn, would turn to face the support student. "How yuh' holdin' up?" He asked. "I'm glad we're helpin' out wit' somethin' like this, but can't say I enjoy all the peoplein'." As committed as the time-turner was to defend the people, he really didn't like interacting with them unnecessarily. It was something Barty & Sada, despite her own aversion to the general populace, actively tried to rectify. That didn't mean Farrin liked it.

The sudden mass of hair (though it looked like web) slapped against the living demolition site's face and granted JoJo her wish, namely grabbing the giant's attention. His massive body (think something close to this but with the wrecking ball parts as well) shifted as he lifted his arm for a better view of his newest assailant. Two new arms grew beneath those with the wrecking ball hands. These two, however, ended with massive circular saws. It swung the blade of its new appendage just above the arm JoJo stood on, hoping to swat, or really carve, her away.
"Oh no yuh' don't!" Farrin shouted, flipping through the air with a kick and launching his way toward the giant.
His fist spearheaded the attack. All the momentum he had built through his skywalking sprint delivered to the titan's jaw. The machine-man stumbled back a step, the saw blade lifting off mark. Farrin didn't want to hurt someone, clearly confused and frightened, but that fear escalated into aggression. He had already taken shots at Farrin. Going after Lady Web, or whatever her actual name was, was unacceptable. Even if her identity was a mystery, her intentions were known enough to the boy. She had helped him before and was helping him again. That made her an ally.
The titan recovered almost immediately. "You'll regret that!" He shouted, swinging his other massive saw blade arm Farrin's way. Another kick off the air, and Farrin beamed toward the nearest roof. The blade just passed below his boots, the gusts from the blade's rotation blowing him off course. He crashed into the target building's fire escape, and already the titan was bringing the blade down. Despite his growing size, he was speeding up rather than slowing down. Doesn’t matter the damage; nowhere is more his home than Sada. He leaned up, pressing his cheek to hers, one arm wrapping around her waist and pulling her into him, her lips against his. He kissed her, holding her there for a small infinity that passed in all of a second.
“Hey there, luv,” he said in hushed words, nuzzling his cheek against hers again.
Magenta might flooded his veins. Muscle made into steel. Power pumping through his entirety, just like - well - those were stories for another time. “Thank yuh’, luv’. I’ll have this handled in a moment. Keep yerself n’ the others safe.”
Farrin lifted himself up, rising with his world. His arm wrapped around her still. He flushed his lips against hers one more time. “Oh, n’, luv’ yuh’ the most.” With nothing more than a playful tap on her bum, he was off.
The clock was counting down on the battle. Farrin flew. Not really, but the whir of his every move displaced air, pushing it outward into an aggressive gust. The giant swung his trunk-like arms but proved far too slow. Farrin was behind him. Just ahead of him again. At his sides. One, then the other. Enormous fists jabbed left, then right. The giant balled his hands together and slammed them into the ground, a burst of debris and force flying out in every direction, but Farrin backpedaled several steps, then flew forward and planted his boot right in the giant’s face, kicking off of him into a backflip. He landed hard, inelegant, but functional.
The kick alone wouldn’t put the massive man down, but it was all set up. He needed the proper opening. Then, he would deliver the final blow.

Farrin hadn't the faintest clue what crime he was being condemned for. Zen hadn't gone around harassing old monks at the temples, had he? And, if so, why was Farrin's ass nearly fried for it? Just nearly.
With a wave of the hand, Farrin summoned several concentric deceleration fields. They were shaped more like umbrellas, each sitting a few feet apart, all floating far above Farrin and Zen. The electrical bolts slowed further and further as they passed through each field. Far more readable. As the electrical arcs blasted into the ground, Farrin darted in the same direction the car, and whoever was crazy enough to ride the damn thing had taken the Storm.
"We need ta' get up there," Farrin shouted to Zenkai.
He leaped up and, with an extra acceleration field below his boot, kicked off the air itself for a single jump. Gloved fingers latched onto the rickety railing of the building's fire escape. The winds, even weakened, threatened to tear the whole thing down. It held, though, so Farrin pulled himself up and beamed up the stairs toward the top of the building. There, he saw the Storm make his move. With another wave of the hand, another wall of temporal deceleration was erected between the villain and his marks. The fields were cutting it close, only a few feet out from Kenta and Mei, but it just might give them the time to dodge if they hadn't made their moves already.
Meanwhile, Farrin's chest grew heavy. Using so many fields in such a short amount of time, especially those slowing the lightning, took its toll. For now, he opted for distance. Farrin lifted his arm and took aim. A small barrel extended from the wrist of his gloves. With the downward flick of his wrist, a frigid adhesive round would fire from the linear cannon built into his outfit, aiming straight for the villain's back. An acceleration field would increase the velocity... and the impact. Hopefully, the adhesive would slow the bastard down or, ideally, immobilize him completely.
Farrin slowed the lightning bolts with several slow fields. Then he scaled the nearby building via fire escape. Reaching the top, he threw another slow field ahead of the wind blade projectiles to help Kenta and Mei (he is starting to tire from the slow field usage). Lastly, he fires a freezing adhesive round from the cannons built into his gloves, aimed for the Storm's back.

An all-out attack on the city was, in fact, the perfect smokescreen within which villainy could freely pursue some greater goal. As students, they lacked the authority and resources to discern what that goal was, assuming Zenkai was correct. Farrin didn't doubt it.
Farrin gave Zenkai a wayward glance. Was he afraid? Or aloof? Zenkai didn't put effort into much. It was a miracle he passed his classes, but there was a beast in there somewhere. He didn't accidentally stumble on his physical prowess. That level of strength and stature was forged in flames. On what time Zenkai honed his abilities, Farrin wasn't sure, but the lad would have to put it to use one day. How could it not be today?
"After I talk ta' the police, I'm headin' back out there. Can't leave e'eryone ta' fend fer 'emselves. Yuh' can stay if yuh' want. Won't judge yuh'. The hospital could do wit' some protectin'. Most the pros out there are probably busy as is," he offered Zenkai an out, a way to stay put if that's what he wanted.
When they reached the hospital's main entrance, there were already nurses and various other assistants pouring out to recover those too injured to stumble in on their own. Farrin passed his charge off, watching as the rest of the crowd that had accumulated behind the students and followed them to the hospital got inside. The moment they made it inside, Farrin darted to the closest police officer.
"Officer, do yuh' know what's goin' on? Is the attack only runnin' through the ward? Or they hittin' e'erywhere? We've a particular villain orchestratin' all this?"
"Get inside, kid! We have this under control," the officer's voice was unsure at best.
"We're hero-students from UAU, we can help," Farrin tried.
"I appreciate it, kid, but you're exactly that. Students. You want to help? Try keeping everyone inside calm."
Farirn withheld the scowl threatening to return to his face. Kid? He had spent years training for exactly this. With a little information, he could make a difference. He could help countless people - and that's exactly what he would do, with or without the police assistance.
The time-turner backed away and marched toward the entrance. More people were pouring in. Some were bloodied, others with limbs barely hanging from their bodies. A few were dragged in, the light long gone from their eyes.
"I'm goin'. Like I said before, yuh' dun' need ta' follow. Can help out 'round 'ere if yuh'd prefer," he offered Zenkai once again.

Not truly, but he couldn't beat back the playful smirk journeying across his face. Lightsabers? The support students were more than capable of such a feat. Some kids had plasma cannons built. Why not plasmatic blades? The only question left was: what color?
"I like where yer' head's at, lad," he replied, turning to face the labs as well. "Alrighty, let's get to it. We've classic films ta' recreate."
There were bound to be opportunities to test his new electrical abilities on the way. It wasn't as if Farrin and Zenkai were alone. As they made their way through the fields and toward the support labs, unbeknownst to them, with a stalker in tow, plenty of the other students were displaying similar abilities. Some came equipped with newfound telekinetic abilities and lightning-like themselves, while others were gifted with newfound super speed and the ability to jump absurd distances, all among other powers.
A few training bots were lined up along the path, some students taking time to study their powers. They wouldn't mind a little assistance, right? Farrin paused as they approached a bend in the path, the part closest to the training fields. The training bots, too.
"Oi, yuh' mind if I give it a go!" He shouted to the student who had lined the machines up.
The student nodded, "just one though, okay!"
"Preciate' it," Farrin replied, aiming his hand ahead and letting a bolt loose. The singular bolt crackled and expanded into a wider current. Three bots were fried and melted down with a thunderous boom followed by a few sizzling pops. "Eh, sorry about that!" He shouted to the student who was glaring. "C'mon now, let's go see 'bout those sabers."
