Farrin darted ahead, this time at full speed. His leg caved in the closest thug's gut. Farrin wouldn't kill him, but the hospital bills just might. A swift elbow strike took a second thug down. A few well-placed jabs landed a third and fourth beside their unconscious friends. Meanwhile, Freja had taken a couple down herself.
"Yeah, lass. Been shot at n' targeted left n' right, but I"m okay. We need ta' get yuh' outta 'ere," he said matter of factly. A few more thugs started out of a nearby alleyway. The scrap wasn't over yet. "No idea. Chaos 'round e'ery corner, though. Had ta' beat 'em these mad lads away from a hospital earlier. It's lookin' like the end times out 'ere."
Farrin sprinted forward. There was no time to play defense. Freja was hurt, which could mean they were on the clock if she suffered internal damage. They had to clear the opposition and evacuate. He wanted to do more, but he had been out long enough. If he pushed chronokinesis too much longer, he would start sifting.
A hard right jab knocked the foremost thug out, and with a spin kick, he launched another into the brick wall that made up the alley's left side. "Yuh' in any condition ta' keep up the fight? I hate ta' say it, but I'm no' at one hundred either, n' we can't be turnin' our backs ta' so many enemies." Even if Farrin had enough gas in the temporal tank to speed both of them up for the entire run back to campus, which he didn't, there was always a risk of leaving your back exposed. If someone had a quirk that utilized light or electricity offensively, they might be able to shoot projectiles faster than even Farrin could move.

He held his ground, but the sheer force threatened to cast him into the wind. The time-turner’s feet were planted firmly in place, though. His world, his Sada, guided some of the civilians within the holy edifice away. He couldn’t afford to be blown away so easily. He had to hold the brute’s attention.
“Oi, quit blowin’ so much wind out yer’ gob. N’ brush yer’ teeth from time ta’ time, spare us from that shite breath with all yer’ bellowin’!”
It was his hands that boomed the sonic clap Farrin’s way, but all the bellowing wasn’t doing anybody any favors. The bull charged full speed, with hands for horns and a battering ram for a skull. He was fast. Incredibly fast. But not Farrin fast.
“Olé, Olé!” Farrin shouted, mimicking a matador waving his cape with his hands.
When the distance between them had disappeared, Farrin dodged to his right, lunging into a roll. He kicked off the ground again and blasted into a semi-circle, running out from his previous position and up behind the beast. He didn’t know what the giant was shouting about, but nothing justified tearing a building down with people still inside. Technically, Farrin wasn’t supposed to act to begin with, but when Sada was in trouble, there were no rules he wouldn’t break. They could sort out the villain’s motivations later. First, they had to take him down.
Farrin beamed ahead and leaped atop the giant’s back. There, he walloped the thick-skulled brute repeatedly. The flurry of fists battering the massive man.  A large fist grabbed hold of Farrin’s leg, though. No time turned warning this time and threw him through the church wall. Farrin rolled through two pews before slamming against a third, bringing him to a stop. He sat up, rubbing at his head, stars in his eyes. He felt that, but the big bastard was feeling it, too. Farrin had to end this with one massive blow. Soon.

The living construction site, or more so demolitions team, of a man wasn't particularly skilled, but he was firepower incarnate. And he was growing still. Two cranes grew from his back, one from just under each shoulder. From the edge of each crane, another wrecking ball would drop.
Quirk evolution wasn't unheard of. Quirk Awakenings, a phenomenon that saw someone's quirk develop further later in life, did happen, but they were incredibly rare. What's more, they typically only occurred during times of extreme duress. Considering the demolition man here was the source of the neighborhood's duress, Awakening didn't seem to be the likely culprit. No. Something was wrong. But Farrin could only figure out that mystery if he was alive to do so.
"I'll try ta' help yuh', lad, but yuh' need ta calm down," he emphasized.
This was the last warning he would give. Heroes weren't supposed to hurt people needlessly, but this wasn't a needless situation. Destruction of property wasn't the big issue. It was the lives put at risk by the giant's rampage. If one of those wrecking balls blew into a residential building or dropped debris onto someone, they were doomed.
"I won't be tricked. Not again! Not ever again!!" The giant shouted.
With that, all four wrecking balls blasted into the air. Farrin's air steps kept giant, and his weapons of choice aimed upward, where there were no other potential casualties... until Lady Web approached. "Look out!" Farrin yelled as his latest step gave him an angle on his wordless ally from the night of the Tokyo Attack. A temporal field burned into existence just ahead of one of the wrecking balls, slowing it to a crawl as it passed through the emerald wall. The other demolition tools didn't have the angle to be a threat to Lady Web. Hopefully, she knew something he didn't about subduing giant opponents like this without hurting them too much, but he doubted it.

Before his father, Farrin might as well have been all three. Physically, it was impossible to fight back against the kind of gravitational forces Balor could muster. And the tactical situation was just as dire. Chronokinesis was a wild card against such powerful gravitational fluctuations. Above & Beyond put his quirk through the paces against gravity, but not to this degree. An acceleration field might see him crawl or fly even faster than he intended, missing his marks. His mother was the better fighter, but there was no denying Balor's Singularity.
While the war between Miroru and Incapacitor waged behind him, Farrin stared death into his father's single glowing eye. One day. Somehow. He was going to make the bastard pay. He didn't expect the opportunity to arrive so soon.
The electrical current spiraled around him, dazzling light and might crackling just by his ears, the heat flushed against his flesh, then arced toward Balor. Even the Singularity hadn't expected it. The lightning strike blasted the dark knight back into a parked car, lodging his armor into the metal frame. Glass shattered and spat up into the air, but before it moved an inch, Farrin was up. He felt his strength return. Without the world's weight crushing him, without Chronokinesis lock and key, he was free.
Farrin was on his feet, one arm pointed in Balor's direction, the other toward Miroru's attacker. He hadn't made out every detail of the conversation, his focus so heavily locked on Balor, but he knew this to be his friend's enemy. So, a shimmering wall of light emerald appeared behind Incapacitor... and Farrin fired.
Freezing adhesive rounds blasted from Farrin's glove, zooming in on Incapacitor. If the shots pushed him back a single step, he would touch the field and be slowed for a solid ten seconds. More than enough time for someone like Miroru to lay on the hurt. Had Farrin not needed every extra ounce of strength for what came next, he would have tried to freeze her father longer had the maneuver worked.
Balor wouldn't be down long. Even under a barrage of incendiaries, the knight rose. Farrin blazed ahead at full speed, and before the dark knight could recover, Farrin was on him. His fist cracked as thunder against the Singularity's helmet.
"Yuh killed her yuh' bastard, yuh' fuckin' killed her! Never again, yuh' won't hurt anyone e'er again!"
Farrin's fist was a flurry of steel and strength. He battered the image of his father, undeterred by any defense, any armor Balor might adorn. He had to stay on the offense. to stop the villain from using his quirk again. Like his mother, if he could stay close, he could win. As skilled and powerful as his father was, Farrin was the faster.
Above, Alastor continued to watch the display below. The makings of a scowl creeping below his mask. The time-turner was a well-known quantity. The organization's primary target. The girl, while usually within his circle when under these conditions, usually hadn't become this involved with his chasing the snakes. The last thing the organization wanted was unknown quantities. One was enough in the temporal rogue that plagued their efforts, but the fox was wits and firepower to match. A headache they didn't need to develop any further. She had to die here.
His hand went to his ear once more, "Have Corvidae send backup. We must flush the fox out for real; then we can gun her down." With the organization's teleporter, Corvidae, sending backup soon, he could entrap the girl. Hopefully, that'd be the end of the unknown quantities. Farrin's hip was recovering from the earlier stun round he had taken. His body's natural healing, even accelerated by chronokinesis, wasn't much benefit in the middle of scrap, but against low-voltage, non-lethals, well, the numbness was worked out of his body fairly fast. So, it wasn't long before the student could pull a full-on sprint.
The debris fell from the air, out of sight now, but weapons fire was a navigational tool, too. Farrin zipped down one street, then up another, and with one final turn, found the scene of Emi's defiance. She held under a barrage of stun rounds. In those old video game terms, she was holding their aggro, which left all the bots open to Farrin's attack!
He was a bolt across the distance, a flash followed by tattered metal and broken parts. Farrin wasn't the sturdiest of his cohort, but he hit like a cannon, and he knew it. A hard clothesline toppled the first machine, and with a spin, he delivered a roundhouse kick that launched the second bot into a third.
"Nice job, lass! Yuh alright?" He asked, raising his wrist to a fourth machine.
A stun round of his own fired from the linear cannon Kei had built into his gloves. It slapped into the bot and knocked it hard against the wall. Unlike the bots, Farrin could increase or decrease his rounds' velocity as needed. The gear was very tightly tied to his quirk.
"I can take the lead if yuh' need time ta' recover!" He shouted back, still uncertain of her condition behind her makeshift shield. She had been standing, when he arrived, but under the protection of some jutting metal she had clearly planted for cover. Did that mean she injured? First he would assess, then they would make for the bomb.

Farrin huffed with the exit of the adrenaline flowing through his veins. Lady Web had her situation handled, her share of the thugs vacant of any violent intent... and consciousness in some cases. They weren't dead, though, which meant whoever she was, she was one of the good guys. Maybe a little extreme, but who was Farrin to judge? He hadn't hesitated from knocking a few heads. He had work to do to improve his ability to dictate that line of damage, but today, he had put a few more threats down. An anonymous call to the police would see these guys locked away, and he could move on to help more innocent people.
"Eh, thanks fer' the backup," he offered Lady Web. "Got a name? Well, one yuh' wouldn't mind bein' called by?"
Giving her real name would quite obviously defeat the purpose of the odd mask she was wearing, but most heroes and vigilantes had proper professional aliases to use instead of their real names. What side of the law she fell on, he couldn't be sure, but her actions spoke enough of her character. She helped him out and didn't kill the crooks, even if they deserved quite a beat down.
"In any case, again, I appreciate the help," Farrin said, ready to take off as soon as she did. He certainly wasn't her objective. So it stood to reason she would be off soon. He had places to be as well, helping those who needed it.

Away from carnage carving its way through the innocent. Farrin was raring for the fight; for that very moment they could claim self-defense and leap into action. As they turned the corner of the street and started down the next, it appeared such an occasion wasn't in the cards. Not yet.
Their path was mostly clear. The tides of chaos hadn't yet touched these shores. Panic spread like wildfire, but for the next three or so blocks, that only amounted to a fleeing populace. Screams were exchanged, fright painted across the people's faces, but none were injured over the short distance.
Farrin led on, towing his human cargo, eyeing the crowds and listening for the distant danger. A thunderous boom rocked the streets, fire licking the sky something like a mile out. It was a massive explosion, but it died down a moment later. Exploding gas station? Who knew, but Farrin should have been there. Not here, playing escort.
"What the feckin' hell is goin' on?" He asked out loud.
There was no reason to believe Zen had the answer, but he had to put it out there. This was madness. Would hero society and the police even have the resources to contain so many threats? In a strategic engagement, he was sure they would, but this was utter madness - from which no discernible method could be gleaned.
They were coming up on the hospital. A police cordon had already formed around the main entrances. Maybe they could find out what was happening.
"Drop 'em off," he nodded to their charges, "then find out what's goin' on I'm thinkin'."

Chronokinesis was sweaty business. Speeding up his passage through time also meant accelerating how fast his body reacted to its environment and general conditions. Run fast, sweat faster. Luckily, his hero outfit, while warm itself, helped in that department. The materials were somehow light enough, despite their immense quality and protection, that he never reached dangerous body temperatures. No heat strokes. Yeah, that was a plus.
Danger came looking for him in other forms, though. He could count on his fingers how many times he left UAU's walls behind without finding any trouble. Tonight wasn't one of those nights. Farrin darted into the city and almost immediately this time. He was faced with danger.
"What the hell is happening? No! No! NO! This is all wrong!"
A monster of a man, three stories in height, swung wrecking balls that had replaced his fists into nearby buildings. No comfort to be found in a quirk like that. Farrin would be pissed too, but this guy was putting people's lives at risk. Something had to be done.
"Oi, calm down there, big fella!" Farrin shouted from the edge of a nearby rooftop.
People were screaming, fleeing from the stage of destruction. Fear didn't creep through the streets. It flooded them. Curiously enough, the big guy seemed afraid, too. Afraid and furious.
"Get away from me!" The giant shouted, one wrecking ball fist aimed in Farrin's direction.
The wrecking ball blew out from the giant's arm, a chain connecting it to the limb. Farrin leaped, air-stepping across to the next building as the wrecking ball blew the previous roof to bits and brick. Debris stormed through the air. Dust plumed, then drifted below. This would be a challenge.

Shards of ice glittered in the air, but for every icicle torn from the crook's armor, more took its place. Another sheet of ice grew from the villain's feet, now covering their immediate footing as well. His remaining partner, the guy summoning the axes, was slipping and sliding. So unaware, they were, of their allies. Still, this was a problem for Farrin as well. Either his feet were about to be frozen into the ground, or he, too, would slip all over the place. You need solid grounding for most punches. He had to end things now.
A circular field of temporal energy surrounded Farrin at foot level, slowing ice's advance. He only had the space he stood in now to keep up the fight. He could air step, but that was an exhausting affair to keep up in the long term. No, this needed to end.
Farrin kicked up the pace. His fists were a blur. Layer by layer, he peeled away the crook's armor. Surprise inched into his enemy's eyes.
"What?" He shouted, incredulously.
Minute fields, nearly imperceptible to the eye, were anchors to Farrin's fists. With each punch, he slowed the advance of the growing ice armor, just as he slowed the ice growing along the ground. Not bad for some on-the-spot thinking.
"Now it's over!" Farrin shouted as the last layer shattered.
A hard right knocked the daylights out of the crook. Not wasting a single moment, Farrin grabbed onto the iceman, spun him around, and lobbed him toward the axe-wielder, who still couldn't get his footing. The crash brought the third and final of Farrin's immediate enemies down, his head smacking hard against the ice. Now, how was Lady Web doing?

After the first few months of classes, most first-years were encouraged to sign up for patrol routes with their professors. If they scored high enough, they could go unsupervised, though, like tonight, they would be held to an even higher standard and were only to intervene directly if absolutely necessary. Otherwise, they were to call the proper authorities and help civilians.
Farrin had already partook in four patrols after the first round of exams. While he earned a B grade in most of his academic courses, his heroics marks were stellar. With years of practice behind him already, he was a step ahead of most of his class. Still, no matter how much distance he had crossed already, he hadn't expected to have more patrol runs under his belt than a second-year student.
"Eh, why's that? If yuh' no' mind me askin'? I thought the school pushes practice patrols once students qualify?"
She would answer, wouldn't she? Maybe not, she did seem the type to keep a lid on it. Hopefully, his gut was wrong this time around. That was a rare occurrence.
Things went slow at first. A few passersby. Families grabbing a late lunch or early dinner. Some were on their way home from work. The light breeze helped to keep things cool. His hero outfit was supremely strong, but boy, was it hot. Luckily, there weren't too many pedestrians. They were in a quieter part of town still.
Once the duo crossed over from one street to another, Farrin stretched his arms and shoulders, using one arm to help pull the other inward before rotating. He was always limbering up. Ready to rocket his way from one scene to the next. The patrol had just begun, but you never knew where trouble loomed.

That would have been Farrin's response if he had been privy to Natsumi's quieter thoughts. SuperNova was a giant amongst men. His quirk was famous for its flames, hot enough to melt even stone if he so desired, but one couldn't be blamed for believing the hero's supernatural ability was tied to his size. Maybe it was in part?
"Bang on, no' e'en usin' his quirk n' it's like he's a fighter jet or some shit," Farrin cursed, albeit with a smile on his face.
It was absurd that true professional heroes were capable of so much. What you heard about SuperNova was his ability to produce flames so hot they could melt through nearly any defense. What you didn't hear, no matter how apparent it was when standing face to face with the man, was how ridiculously strong and swift he was, too. On campus, he displayed the ability to use his flames for propulsion and pseudo-flight. That wasn't the case here. His measureless bounds today were feats of strength alone.
Farrin kicked off the edge of one building and landed on the next. At super speeds, he crossed the distance, barreling down the block, from roof to roof, until he reached SuperNova. There wasn't much of a pause, though. Arms crossed, the pro-hero professor looked the two students over.
"That's more like it!"
Then, he immediately leaped again. This time, flames did spout from his feet and hands, only for a second, and the propulsion was enough to launch him three blocks further. The flames dissipated well before coming into contact with anything. His control was immaculate.
"Get over here, now, and keep it quiet," his voice rang in Farrin's ear this time.
Farrin and Natsumi were given small communication devices to fit in their ears. With it, the students and the professor could stay in constant contact no matter the distance. If SuperNova was using it, though, that meant he was trying to keep quiet. And that meant-
"We've a developing situation below. Trouble."
Farrin wouldn't waste a beat. He looked up to Natsumi, gave her a nod, and sprung ahead, leaping from building to building again. In a blink, he was at SuperNova's side again. "What's goin' on, sir?" Farrin asked. When he and Natsumi were both close enough, SuperNova would point below.
"Back up! I said, BACK UP!" One voice roared over police sirens below. A few bullets fired off into the air, and the police took cover behind their vehicles. The situation was becoming clear, but SuperNova would lay it out anyway.
"It looks like we have a jewelry store robbery. Hostages too," he said, quieter than usual, his eyes unmoving from the windows of the store below. "Well, kiddos, they won't kill any hostages for now. That's their only bargaining chip, which gives us a few moments to plan. Now. I need to know for certain. No bravado. Are the two of you ready for a live situation?"

With an imaginary touch, he could see Natsumi standing triumphantly atop the glorious mounds of sugared sweets and the occasional toy. He'd spare her the details of those villains, yes villains, that gave kids toothpaste or an apple on such a sacred day. Nothing wrong with apples, but Halloween was only as good as the tooth-rotting sweets one acquired through the night.
"Well, most people go trick o' treatin' in the evenin'. Some parents will take the younger tykes out that might actually be afraid o' costumes n' such during the afternoon, but it's no' really a day we get off from work or school fer, so no sense goin' out too early," he answered, thinking back to the various ninja and hero costumes he wore while his mum took him out, and the various makeshift outfits he put together years later. Cutting eyeholes in sheets and gluing accessories to his simplistic ghost costumes was all part of the experience later on. Whatever got him the candy.
"Yeah, let's check it out."
Small smiles and the occasional wave greeted them. Folks wise in their years and kind in their hearts. It didn't matter that he was clearly a foreigner. Or, if anyone was bothered by it, it didn't show. Farrin stepped through the grassy threshold. Most were quiet, whispering with one another at most, but none looked nefarious. Only respectful of their surroundings and the occasion. The mention of family and friends occasionally escaped the quiet, but none were particularly loud or boisterous.
Farrin cut to a stop a few meters out from the largest of the crowds outside the actual shrine. He wasn't about to disturb them, but curiosity had him hooked. Some were praying. Others were standing in idle appreciation. All at peace.
"It really is somethin'," Farrin remarked, happily content with this shared moment.

These nightly runs fit perfectly into Farrin's schedule. His routine meant the mornings were for physical training. Afternoons were dedicated to academics, his classes, and personal studies, along with some chronokinetic training. The day's waning hours entailed another round of physical training when Sada wasn't around, but running about the city was cardio enough with the added benefit of seeing him quell lesser offenses.
Now, technically, he wasn't supposed to get involved in anything too dangerous. If it looked like serious villain activity, protocol dictated he call the authorities immediately so a pro could handle the situation. But, danger could be subjective. What was dangerous to the roach might not be so harrowing to the lion. Farrin slotted himself in with the latter category. He had handled himself in the field quite a few times now, not that UAU was aware of his run-ins with villainy. Tell them about the groups giving him trouble, and he'd be lucky ever to leave campus again. No, for now, mum was the word. Until it wasn't.
The time-turner leaped from one roof to the next across the massive metropolis. Skywalking, his ability to accelerate small temporal fields below his boots to "kick" through the air for a few steps saved him from some of the larger gaps, though he still couldn't cross the larger plazas or scale taller buildings with it. He was practicing that little maneuver with Miroru. It did, however, land him right atop a shorter residential complex skirting the neighborhoods between Tokyo's heart and the outskirt wards. No trouble yet, but that was bound to change.
