Why Kaida joined U.A will likely forever be a mystery to the general public, to Kaida's misfortune. She hopes that, someday, she will be broken free from her family's name. No matter the cost. » HERO NAME: Susano'o

A few years back, Kaida could have been considered to be one of the most volatile and violent persons within the walls of U.A, a girl unbefitting of her role as a hero student. Lashing out at those who dared to come close, Kaida's personality was entirely reflected by her history, an entirely unhappy and unpleasant story that she has yet to tell anyone about fully. Though her true uncontrollable nature still peers through the cracks of her fragile mask at times, Kaida has learnt well to keep it at bay and stay the monster within her by learning to accept the friends that wormed their ways past her blizzard. However for naught it may be, however she may turn out in the end, Kaida knows she is grateful for these people in their brief time together.
At her last year in U.A, what was in the past still dredges up from time to time in the future. The dragoness has considerably dulled down in terms of emotion, coming to look after the people she care about instead of pushing them away when she thought they got too close. She's cold, calculating and fiery when it comes to the people she dislikes, but otherwise, where she was once violent and plain angry, Kaida is now cool and collected. On the surface, that is- when push comes to shove, she still never hesitates to lash out in secret, a deadly whisper on her lips to those in her way.
Those in her way. Those in her way. Whilst Kaida can pretend to those she cares about that there's nothing wrong with her, life can always tell her otherwise and simply force her to look the other way, reminding her of the inevitable duties she must fulfill. It says that she's different, that her fate is set in stone and will always diverge from her friends no matter how hard she might try, and she knows it to be true. There's simply no way it isn't, with how different everything has always been from the start.
The future tied by threads of fate are steadfast, and unmovable. The hands on the clock are ticking towards an inevitable future.

"What are you staring at?" She turns heads wherever she goes, commanding presence whether it be good or bad. Kaida emits a constant glare of a cold icy temperature upon those who dare look at her, and whether or not she's actually death-glaring or just looking depends on the situation she's in. She calls it her default look, and those who know her well accept the fact that she means nothing by it. Accompanied by wintry clothes no matter the climate she's in thanks to her cool complexion, Kaida is the embodiment of a blizzard in the frosty north whether it be by touch or her attitude and doesn't hesitate to fell that snow on those who that oppose her.
Kaida doesn't dare keep her quirk much of a secret anymore given that she's a favourite of the media's conspiracies, though she still shows discomfort with it being talked about. Her appearance is forever draconic, with slitted golden eyes that have a ring of outer blue, sometimes reflecting light in the dark. Furry black ears sit atop her head which she sometimes chooses to hide with a bow if she's feeling particularly agitated that day, as they mirror her emotions quite apparently. Kaida's counterpart, the beast within, depicts her human form as well. Though nowhere near what it used to be in her childhood, Kaida's dragon towers at two stories tall with midnight black fur and compassing feathered wings.
Because of her heritage and the fate her clan has bequeathed her, Kaida possesses a menacing, ominous azure dragon tattoo that spans the majority of her back that has been chiseled into her skin. This shows her stature within the clan and who she is as a person, and who she is destined to be. The lotus represents her clan's crest, and the symbol their immortality. Because of how tattoos are viewed in Japan, both in the past and now, she chooses to keep her ink hidden.
HISTORY
"Liars... all of them."
gods don't bleed
tw; implied abuse, emotional manipulation and deathnpcsGods don't bleed. It's a simple prospect that legends tend to abide to by. Immortals, gods, they don't suffer the same fates as mortals do because they're simply just not the same. They're better, holier, stronger, powerful entities that reside above mortal realms and peer down on them like lesser, inferior beings. Gods don't bleed because they're not the same as them. When the first Ikarashi received their quirk, they wondered if they could make mythology a reality, and so the conquest for immortal power began... where it leads down today. Kaida often wonders of what exactly that conquest would be- the Ikarashi Clan has been around since long before quirks existed. So what did their goals change to? It snowed when Kaida was born, a foreboding to her future abilities. She screamed. God, did she scream, instantly making her twin brothers Katsurō and Sōma hate her, whilst the middle child Ichirō looked mildly disinterested, as did her parents Kazuya and Nanami. But her? The eldest, the wisest, the most sane, Kasumi, took Kaida into her arms with the gentleness of an angel and looked down upon her with the only benevolence that was present in the family. Kaida stopped screaming immediately. Unbeknownst to them, Kasumi made a very very devout promise to this newborn, who she knew would endure a world of pain, only because she was never supposed be in the world in the first place. Her parents were relentless people with high expectations. Her first few years were under the guise of normality because she couldn't think of anything else as a toddler, but past the age of five, she was forced to learn of the harsh reality that was living in the Clan. Etiquette, standards, intelligence, the head of a warrior and a leader. Though the maids taught her kindness amongst these things, it was hardly a spell to dampen her anger when being taught by her "parents", who only interacted with her through bloodying her till she was bruised in the name of martial arts techniques. Though she did her best, got everything correct, did everything right... it was never enough. She can only remember the intense scorn and disdain on their faces when she struggled to get back up and face them with broken bones. A disgrace, they called her. A disappointment. You'll never be anything like your siblings.Quickly, she realised they never intended on having her in the first place. But Kasumi? She had always wanted her. It was tough. An incredible understatement. Growing up with the twins was hard enough, the power dynamic between her and Katsurō them trying to kill each other because their personalities clashed so much, Sōma one-upping her on every test, and Katsurō being his general dismissive self didn't help. The epitome of a dysfunctional family. Kasumi was the only reason she didn't try to kill anyone when her quirk manifested. A spar with Ichirō came. In the midst of it, he had abruptly collapsed. He hadn't been like the twins- he was merely disinterested in Kaida. So of course, she showed concern- only to have her arm be snapped in two once she got close enough. He was hauled away, screaming, whilst Kaida gritted her teeth against the pain as she was taken away, reaching out for Kasumi. But no. She and her parents merely watched, with disinterest, seemingly betraying everything Kaida knew about Kasumi. Did she not care? Was it because she wasn't strong enough? It only confirmed her suspicions. Her family wasn't normal, and not by a long shot. Kasumi was a complicated girl. Even if Kaida had spent hours upon hours with her, Kasumi would always prove to be a mysterious person with no clear objective, apart from abiding to the clan’s laws. She was simply mystifying, regal- the eldest sister of five who had to uphold her reputation, and eventually, become the pillars for her clan. So when Kasumi instead decided to continue with her duties instead of visiting Kaida in her room while she healed and studied, she felt as if she understood Kasumi for doing so. She had duties. But even if she did think she understood, it didn’t stop the doubt, insecurity and rage that bubbled inside Kaida’s heart. But it wasn't just rage. It was something else, a voice of bloodlust, carnage and of sinister intent. An idling voice telling her what to do once she was cleared. So the first thing Kaida did when she was allowed to leave was demand answers- in the form of exchanging fists. Kasumi, understanding Kaida's rage, merely accepted. When the prospect of the dragon surface, Kasumi tackled Kaida to the ground, pinning her so she couldn't transform. Surprisingly, Kaida caught Kasumi off guard with a hook to the chin. “Screw you.” Kaida had spat. “Get your hands off of me!”Kasumi suddenly enveloped Kaida in a warm embrace. She only struggled for a few moments, but saddened by her solitude and lack of physical touch, and easily melted into her sister’s grasp. Kaida was smart enough to realise why Kasumi had done this, but it didn’t get rid of the ache within her heart. “Father and Mother said your quirk hasn’t developed yet,” Kasumi gulped, and Kaida paused at the sight of tears streaming down her sister’s face. “They… told me if you didn’t… t-then- '' Kasumi had shook her head, burying her face in Kaida’s onyx hair. Kaida only sighed, getting the gist of the situation, and wrapped her arms around her sister, letting Kasumi have a scarce moment of vulnerability. She didn’t want to hear what would happen if her quirk didn’t develop, anyway. “Making me endure overwhelming emotions like this was the only way of forcing it out, then…” Kaida had whispered her reply. Only then did Kasumi fully break down into sobs, chanting her apologies to her younger sister repeatedly. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. No, Kaida didn't understand Kasumi. She never would. Kasumi stood upon the highest unreachable pillar Kaida could never hope to reach, she had responsibilities that plagued her, bloodied her hands and mind. But all for the sake of what? She hid that reason- but if it got her to stop looking so weak and exposed like she did now, then it was fine with her. Someone as strong as her didn't deserve to fall apart. Kaida and Kasumi were only human after all. They would endure this hell together. When Kaida turned ten, a ceremony was held. In the past, all of her siblings went under the same ritual where they would be given tattoos that would represent Japanese mythological legends, an honour only those of the main family bloodline receive. Kasumi revealed hers to be the glorious sun goddess, Amaterasu- and according to her, Kaida's tattoo was supposed to represent Susano'o, the god of storms. Now accepted into the clan, she was introduced to training involving her quirk, battle strategies, and the use of militarism. These actions caused her to think more about her clan's history, and why they lived under the facade of a normal family in a farming village. She asked Kasumi, who didn't answer. Sōma and Katsurō merely gave her mean smirks, and Ichirō and Kazuya were out on a mission. As a last resort, she asked her mother, Nanami. She should have known better than to do that. With a slap on the cheek and a blood-red glare that could make mountains submit, Kaida's mother coldly reprimanded her. She could only send an enraged glare to her mother before leaving, confused as to why they would be so secretive about their goals, their history, the world- everything. No answers. Was she doomed to live a life in the shadow of her family? Her questioning resulted in punishment in the form of double the training, studying and lecturing. Sprained bones from the jeering of Katsurō, harsh criticism from both Sōma and Kazuya. Thankfully there was no berating from anyone else. When it was over, she fell unconscious thanks to the harshness she was put under, and woke at Kasumi's side. Kaida could tell Kasumi was disappointed, but most of all, scared for her. Kasumi told Kaida of the fate that they were to endure, but still hid the reasons as to why they were put under pressure. Kasumi also told Kaida that she would succumb to a less than favourable fate if she questioned her parents again. This was their fate. They couldn’t escape from it. Even if they did try to run away into the thick and lush wilderness to desert their family, they would only be dragged back screaming, and forced to bear even worse consequences. Kaida chose to accept their fate for the time being. With that acceptance came the realisation of why her clan was so covert and why she wasn't trusted with secrets- her clan was yakuza. They had ties to the underworld, and even if Kasumi didn't speak on it, Kaida was smart enough to understand. It explained why Kazuya and Ichirō were always out on missions, how they got their money, why they were so uptight about their reputation. Though it clicked together, she chose to stay quiet about it. Over the next five years, Kaida's quirk continued to get more unstable, sealed away by the quirk of one of Kaida's trusted maids named Ai. Kaida did notice when this happened, immense intrigue would appear on her parent's faces- but also fear. She wondered as to why people as powerful as them would be afraid of her. The years passed with Kasumi still taking them on nature excursions to the great unknown outside the estate to nullify the voice of the quirk inside her head, as normally as it could. Winter came on her fourteenth year, and with that, the festival of a new year. Kasumi announced that they would be doing their kagura dance again for the village, as they had done for many years previously. Flourishing financially in that winter, Kazuya and Nanami decided they would put more effort into the festival for the village than they ever had before. Kaida, amidst the darkness of her life, found this festival to be a light at the dark end of the tunnel, moreso than ever rather than the ones that had come before. The clan was relieved of their duties for three days, which Kaida was suspicious of, knowing her parents had no hearts to speak of. But she and everyone were too busy to question it afterwards, preparing costumes for kabuki plays, food for the market and fireworks for the final day. While they weren't practicing, the two sisters enjoyed the night marking, browsing all sorts of times, food, games and other things. For once in a while, they laughed together, having the time of their lives. Kaida couldn’t remember the last time she had been so happy. Kaida and Kasumi perfected their kagura dance as shrine maidens while wishes were exchanged at the temples, getting ready for the last event of the festival. Golden lights, flaring candles and excited patrons murmured at the foot of the stage they were to perform at, Kaida anxiously hiding behind a curtain. Kaida searched the audience and asked why their parents weren't there. "Mother is attending to the festival's needs, as she is the organiser of the event," Kasumi had replied. "Father is... tending to other business. He will not attend this year." Kaida felt suspicious, but also relieved. But suspicious. But relieved. Which was it? Which was it? But that's not her speaking- she felt the apprehension of the moment, gaze desperately searching for her parents, wavering over her twin brothers but finding no one else important but them, that voice coming back... the voice came back. What's wrong? There's nothing wrong. Don't lie.Kaida stepped on the stage, sluggish, feeling the voice wrap its arms around her shoulders as Kasumi stood beside her, visage worried as they began their dance. Only then did she notice her mother at the edge of the crowd, observing them with a critiquing, judgemental gaze. It completely threw her for a loop. She slipped, and the kagura suzu she held onto was flung from her hand, decimating a selection of candles and incense that sat on the floorboards. Before she knew it, half the stage was set on fire. Kasumi said she wasn't supposed to be here. Don't lie.She could see Nanami's wrath manifest as Sōma rushed to put the fire out, Kasumi scooping Kaida up as she threatened to fall unconscious due to shock, her twin brothers following Nanami to the backstage after putting the fire out to eagerly see the fate that would befall their sister. Kaida was ready for the verbal abuse she received from her mother, but it didn't lessen the pure horror Kaida felt because of her. Kaida was sent away to lament over her mistake, effectively ruining the last night of the festival for everyone. Kaida made it back to the estate with a sluggish demeanor and dirtied clothes, not ready for the punishment that would come for her afterwards. If it was worse than what she had endured when questioning her mother the first time, she wasn't sure she would survive. Though as she passed by a barely closed door, she heard Kazuya's voice. Peeking in, she saw him, Ichirō, and many other gloomy, crime-induced looking men and women. She shouldn't be here. She shouldn't be here. She was supposed to be at the festival, performing for the village. But she listened anyway. Monsters. Japan. Cities, countries, yakuza. Fake. Gods. No choice. War.War.
Is this what you've been training us for, Father? She's not supposed to be here. Don't lie.Kasumi...Don't lie.Had she done it on purpose? Don't lie.Was it because of the mistake Kaida made that Nanami had finally decided to exile her from the clan? To set her on a path that had her destined to be destroyed? She wouldn't lie.Kaida knew her parents never loved nor trusted her. She knew her siblings didn’t love her. She knew the clan was a façade for shady business and yakuza dealings behind the world’s back. She knew why they were isolated from the rest of society. She knew that she was never destined to have a fate that was controlled by her own hands. She knew that she was the odd one out in the clan, a child that was eventually meant to be cast out. But most of all, she now knew why she was born. I’m a weapon for a war that they’re making.
She lied to me.Her chains finally broke. The fireworks that were supposed to light up the sky to signal the festival’s end instead illuminated a beast of incredible stature. Deep onyx, icy fur. Deadly pointed teeth that could tear through the grittiest of rocks. A long, thick, sweeping tail. Ivory horns and claws. Bright but cold amber and blue eyes. The earth fissured and shook as it moved, and let out an ear-splitting roar that could be heard from miles upon miles. The previously peaceful atmosphere of the festival turned as the people of the village ran with ghastly screams as they fled from the monster that had risen from the clan’s estate. The beast doesn’t remember much of what happened the night where her world changed forever. A battle occurred that left scars on her body. The ground under her feet was churned and turned to ash. The lush forest around the village was set ablaze with the fiery inferno of hell. Her home burnt down before her very eyes. People may have died. Was it her fault? She didn’t know. Did she win? She didn’t know that, either. The only memory that was burned into her mind was as she watched Ai and Kasumi put a gentle but sorrowful hand upon her snout. The sky was bleak and grey when she woke. Through the bleariness of her gaze, she saw Kasumi's figure disappear as she flew away from her. The personal contents of her belongings in a bag weighed down her stomach as she sat up, a note on top of it. We both know of the fate that has been bestowed to us, sister. As I have accepted mine, you must accept yours, too. - KasumiRealising she had been banished from her clan for the destruction she had caused and secrets she had heard, Kaida took off into the city that Kasumi had left her in. Over the next year, she would make a living the only way she knew how- with what little Kasumi had left her with, and by stealing from others. A few months later did she see on a passing screen in a television shop how her hometown had ended up- ruined, deserted, completely abandoned, with destroyed buildings and a charred forest. She saw the truth. She saw the truth of her clan, and what they had done to her- and to other innocent, innocent people. Just like her. Who's to tell her to not feel the rage she should at them? Even if the Hero Association forced her to be a hero student instead of living on the street so they could keep an eye on her, who's stopping her from boiling? Who's stopping the glacier, moving at a slow pace, but destroying everything in its path? I accepted our fate a long time ago, Kasumi. But Mother and Father never said anything about not letting me change it.

QUIRK FATED BLOOD
A+ | transformation / emitter Passed down through several generations to cultivate its vitality and power, Fated Blood is a quirk of monstrous and draconic origins, each inheritance by those in the Ikarashi Clan soaked in blood. Kaida's inheritance or version of this power enables her to turn into a dragon of immense size, with thick black fur and a large wingspan (e.g Ryukyu). Kaida possesses immense reserves of water within her body that are outlined by an ice-like layer, or core, that supercools the water within her, allowing her also to dispense arctic-level cold ice.
emitter — when Kaida breathes the water from her reserves in her dragon form, it comes out as a high pressured mist beam at a short to medium distance and freezes over whatever might be in its path. Getting hit by this beam is akin to suffering frostbite at a far higher rate than a typical blizzard, and being weighed down by the ice that could have coalesced on the opponent's body if it is not broken off. If the mist also comes into contact with liquids, they will freeze over. — the mist can also be secreted through cells in her skin, allowing it to come from any place on her body. However, it can only harden on a select few places on her body, such as her wings and the end of her tail.
transformation — Kaida's dragon's capabilities can only be used within her transformation, and her growth in size does not affect her attributes. — Kaida's dragon possesses two wings that allow her to fly. She can fly as fast as her speed will allow her.
» DRAWBACKS: Mizuchi / Kaida's alternate identity — whilst Fated Blood's traits are usually only sourced from the previous holder, Kaida's quirk is sourced from both her parents. Her father has Fated Blood, whilst her mother has a demonic quirk that gives the user a second personality- essentially a parasite. Mizuchi, Kaida's alter ego, can be classified as a second consciousness inside Kaida's head or even her draconic form, and is named after an evil spirit. — when Kaida faces emotional vulnerability, Mizuchi fights for control over her body through taunts in her head, nightmares, and forcefully gives Kaida negative thoughts. It is an evil entity and is the embodiment of negative emotions, and will do anything to take control of Kaida's mind. If Kaida faces a significant amount of distress on any level, like a close friend getting severely injured, Kaida will no longer have control over her body and Mizuchi will seek to wreak havoc how it sees fit. — the only way to get Kaida to revert would be to let Mizuchi burn itself out or forcefully restrain it. It is possible that positive emotions and affection can regress Mizuchi's control, but only in rare occasions. Fire — as she is practically made of ice, Kaida is subject more weakness through various elements, such as fire and heat. The moisture in Kaida's body can evaporate provided that heat is sustained for long enough. Doing this will cause her immense exhaustion and lead her to shutting down. Fatigue — fatigue occurs when Kaida continuously uses her ice. The moisture in her body prevents the ice-like layer inside her body from freezing her fully, effectively acting as a cooling unit. If Kaida were consistently fire an ice beam, she would experience extreme fatigue and dehydration, and thus must use it non-consecutively. Transformation — Kaida cannot speak in her dragon form. Being bigger also makes her an easier target, and she would not be able to dodge large scale attacks. She cannot fit into small spots or pursue people inside buildings without transforming back to her human form.
EQUIPMENT
Blank for now.
SKILLS
IKARASHI'S STORM
B
Kaida's fighting style is somewhat derived from her sister's, Wayward Flow, only brutalized tenfold. Kaida can navigate the battlefield with finesse and can dodge attacks or parry them without much effort, even being able to joint-lock opponents if need be. Her deadly strength and speed are something to be wary of when fighting her.

Anyone who knows Kaida well enough knows that she doesn't fancy her quirk much, to put it lightly. Her dragon was a beast rarely seen by the public eye out of fear of attention, and mostly out of fear of losing control. Her chance at U.A was a singular one, a final option for redemption- losing that would mean having to face the outside world, and very likely perish at the hands of her family. However, hatred was an old friend of hers and was not something she was afraid of.[break][break]
Using her quirk outside of campus comes with heavy penalties, and considering her situation, there are some rules she doesn't ignore. Dozing off in a forest far away from civilisation was something she would have much preferred to do, but the university grounds are surprisingly quiet on a weekday evening, and is something Kaida can find a silver lining in despite hating the leering public eye no matter the headcount. The dragoness drew her wings close to her body as she lay upon the cooling sand of the physical education grounds, a heavy sigh escaping her nostrils, her breath flinging up a significant dust cloud. Eyelids closing, she waited for sleep to cuddle her in its dark embrace, or perhaps the inevitable presence of onlookers to disturb her.[break][break]
The more hesitant part of her hoped for the latter.

It wasn't a good day, not for her, and not for most of the people that filtered through the building's gates. She would go as far as to say these people would be better off remaining at home, but right now, her opinion didn't matter.[break][break]
It's Mother's Day, and the local shrine not too far off of U.A's campus surrounded by mountainous forest is offering servitude for the living over their matriarchal deaths.[break][break]
The priests and maidens try to make it as best as they can be for the people, offering kind words and consultation to those who had lost their mothers, and could not visit their graves or such, opting to come to a place just as best as a graveyard would be, if not better. Graveyards, as Kaida had found, dampened her soul incredibly. Seeing the hundreds of rows of the fallen took a heavy toll on the mind, and at least here, you could be with people who had similar experiences and find comfort in that- at least in her opinion. But her opinion hardly mattered.[break][break]
Kaida stood off to the side with crossed arms beneath the overhang of an engawa, merely observing the crowd as they moved inside the main offering hall to place down their gifts or incense before the offering box, and saying a few words of prayer. She had done her part of helping set everything up- she would leave the words of consultation to those who were actually capable of warmth, rather than her cold and harsh honesty. Makoto, the younger shrine maiden who was about seventeen years old and one who constantly badgered Kaida over accidentally breaking cleaning supplies, had a comforting hand on an elderly woman who had a river of tears flowing down her wrinkled cheeks. She would be fine. Makoto had a way with words.[break][break]
Now, it would just be up to waiting until everything was over to help clean up again. Kaida was one of the last to join in on the fun, if you counted loitering like a stalker at the edge of the group partying. It was clear that she was incredibly out of her element, staring at the students drinking for a long and hard moment before deciding to walk off somewhere else, and where that was, she wasn't sure. The dragoness, she had spotted Jun amidst the chaos, the very person to point out the event and invited Kaida to come along- but Kaida being Kaida, the most she would have done was sit at the very recess of everything and nurse a cold glass of whatever.[break][break]
She was happy to see Jun up and about after the incident at sea, seemingly having no problem being on a boat. Kaida couldn't say the same for herself.[break][break]
Sighing as Sumi's words faded into the background as Kaida walked away, barely registering the number ten being imprinted on her palm, she took notice of another lonely soul at the bar. Someone who wasn't familiar with the intricacies of extroverts? As much as the senior didn't want to, she needed to talk to someone that wouldn't scream in her ear to pass the time. She would sit one seat aside from the person, not wanting to intrude too much on their space, pulling the fur collar of her jacket closer to her neck.[break][break]
"Not a fan?" Kaida asked him as she glanced at the group of people over yonder and ordered straight vodka, willing to test the waters with her tolerance tonight. Now that she looked at him closer, Kaida did recognise him as someone she would occasionally see on campus, but not see enough to know his name. Something that started with an A, if she recalled correctly. Whilst the Coast Guard and Navy had been prepared to take deadly force if necessary against the pirates, the unprecedented weather events made the military liable to an ambush that had been set prior to their arrival. Attempts were made to board the pirate ship unsuccessfully after Kenzou Kagutsuchi made contact with Katsuro Ikarashi, a lieutenant of the Ikarashi Clan and one of the sons of their leaders, Nanami and Kazuya Ikarashi. Katsuro Ikarashi is a fugitive that has fled from custody for a number of years after an incident with a weapons cartel in northern Hokkaido in 2089, eleven years ago, where several members of the opposing cartel were found electrocuted to death as Katsuro as the suspect. Refusal and elusion of arrest as well as his quirk records find him most likely to be the perpetrator. He was seen on that day by eyewitness accounts of both the ship’s crews, the Inazuma and Hida, as the person who put Kenzou Kagutsuchi into a coma from which he has sadly yet to wake up from.[break][break]
The two students, Kaida Ikarashi, whom is the mentee of Kenzou, and Junsuina Kanjo are seniors at Japan’s number one hero school, U.A, were present at the incident. Whilst not much is known about Miss Kanjo, eyes and ears are certainly turned towards Kaida Ikarashi, the youngest child within the Ikarashi Clan, and the sister of Katsuro Ikarashi. Kaida has been a fan favourite of conspiracies on media and internet ever since she enrolled in U.A four years ago for unknown reasons, and podcasts often commentate on her confusing presence within hero society given her family’s criminal status within both the yakuza and villainy in Japan. Kaida was seen fighting her brother after neutralising another clan lieutenant, only known by his alias ‘Presley’. The fight was only for but a short moment after Katsuro seemingly switched targets, attacking Miss Kanjo and putting her unconscious. Another unnamed individual appeared afterwards, a person who the media has simply named ‘Kitsune’, seemingly intervened in the fight before Katsuro could do any further damage.[break][break]
Before reinforcements could arrive, the three fled the scene, presumably to the nearby island Mikurajima, disappearing before they could be pursued. Kagutsuchi and Miss Kanjo were air-lifted to the nearest hospital to receive urgent care, and Miss Kanjo has been reported to have been detained recently with careful watch on her health. Eyewitness accounts also…”[break][break]
“- you feel. I’ve been fighting them every time I’m on the clock, and even after years of training, I still get so furious when I see them, when I remember what they’ve done to people. But fighting, it’s not fun or games, it’s not for bloodlust. It’s to help people who need it. I’m going to help you, but you need to remember that, Kaida…”[break][break]
“At the end of the day, we both know you’re a good person, and eventually people will come to realise that, too.”[break][break]
“Will you continue to deny your true nature, Kaida? Will you continue to deceive yourself into thinking that there's any other way forward for you?"[break][break]
“You… you won’t forget this… I’ll come for you. Katsuro. I’ll be there. I’ll crush you… I’ll make you suffer just like they did… you’ll be begging for death… because it’s going to be better than living knowing what you’ve done.”[break][break]
Glancing up from her hands, Kaida closed her eyes. “Yeah… just remember that.”[break][break]
But it was hard to.[break][break]
Remembering life as something other than bloodshed was growing increasingly difficult as every day beyond the incident at sea with her brother passed. She'll always remember the way she tried to weakly defend herself, to say she was a tool of justice that protected the weak, and how her brother so vividly denied it. She'll remember how she lied to herself. She'll remember that she's always searching for their deaths.[break][break]
She needed to get away. Somewhere else. Talk to someone who wasn't the press or the other students that judged her, and teachers that breathed down her neck.[break][break]
Kaida's cold hand found itself knocking on Kazashi's door, a trip she hardly registered making from U.A to here, turning her phone's radio off that rattled news she would rather forget. The hero, she had invited the dragoness here. Surely... surely it meant she was welcome somewhere.

She'd often heard about the "two wolves inside of you fighting over bad and good" joke before, but despite the tomfoolery made from it, Kaida had found the underlying meaning to be quite true. A part of her longed to stay where she was, at U.A with a couple friends and ignoring her world as it crashed and burned around her, and the other part? That thing, that being, the one who hid in her heart and tugged it back to reality... it wanted nothing more than to be let out. It wanted to ask her "why bother being so ignorant", ask her "why keep your head in the clouds". It asked her why she was here today, if there was a possibility, tomorrow wouldn't be a today at all?[break][break]
It was tearing her apart. Eating her alive. There wouldn't be a today or a tomorrow if none of this was dealt with- and the storm raging inside of her was waiting on the horizon to roll over once the time came. And she knew, whatever that storm was, it was always eventually meant to pour down.[break][break]
Kaida climbed over the fence with some struggle, the sharp cut ends of metal biting into her skin but ultimately finding no purchase of blood as she landed on the other side, stalking towards her intended destination. Many ships once sailing the seas now found their deathbeds here, unburied and forgotten, rusted away or having their parts stolen for their kin. Which is exactly why she came here- the one and only possible lead she would have to finding her brother's ship, and the mysterious masked person that had stopped Katsuro from killing her, Jun and Kenzou.[break][break]
After ten minutes of searching, Kaida happened upon a service yard, her breath shortening as she ducked behind a horde of storage crates as voices suddenly neared her. A patrol of two people- above average height, in tactical gear that looked particularly worn down. They weren't military. Guerilla fighters, maybe? Or...[break][break]
Leaning out from behind her cover, the dragoness watched as the person, a man she deduced by his voice, lifted his wrist to his helmeted head and spoke words she couldn't hear. The setting sun shone on a light pattering of rain that had started which muffled his voice. Kaida clenched her fists- whatever that information was, it was useful, and too good to pass up. Internally cursing herself for her actions, she moved after them, stopping abruptly and skittering halfway down a stairwell they were passing, pressing herself against the wall.[break][break]
"... to come by... clear... affirmative. Fuujin has landed."[break][break]
She felt her blood turn cold, far colder than she was capable of. That was a callsign used by many, with mythology in Japan being as popular as ever, but she couldn't shake off the possibility of the one person she knew by that name being here. [break][break]
"All patrols... alert until Tsukuyomi arrives."[break][break]
The dragoness felt her stomach fall and her heart rise into her throat all at once. Of course... of course they would be here.[break][break]
Eventually the patrol moved on, leaving Kaida to move up and follow after him, but pause suddenly as she realised what was below her. The ground had steeply dropped off into a wide expanse, a battered cargo ship lying in the waters where the service yard parted- the cargo ship, the one her brother and his crew had used to intercept the Inazuma. She cursed under her breath as her hands laid upon the railing, icy-amber eyes taking in the people that had set upon the ship to repair it under the floodlights and armed men stalking the surrounding area like panthers. There were more people here, more than she anticipated- but she needed to know more. She needed to know why they tried to kill them.[break][break]
If she didn't, she didn't know if she would be able to do anything else. It was down to her to debate on whether or not she was about to do the best thing for the others today- or maybe, selfishly so, for herself. It was the right thing to do, surely? Even if it meant getting herself injured, or... possibly even killed to take her family down, that way, no one but her would get hurt. She couldn't let that happen again, not after Jun. She was insecure. She thought she needed Jun for that mission- she didn't.[break][break]
If she didn't come, she wouldn't have gone medically dead, and Kenzou wouldn't have been put in a coma. It was simple. If she wasn't there, they wouldn't have been targeted, and...[break][break]
Her fist clenched so hard on the railing above her head she bent the metal, her looking up in mute surprise. Get a grip on yourself, Kaida hissed to her mind, soul and body. If you lose it now, how do you expect to fight whoever's going to be there?[break][break]
Sighing, she took her hands away from the railings, and watched as the tunnel happened upon Tokushima's city skyline, the broad expanse of the concrete jungle before her. Stepping off immediately at the first station the train stopped at, Kaida would promptly disappear into the crowd, worming her way through the abundancy of stairways and food stalls posted up. Navigating through the alleyways and going to the ocean's side on foot- that meant avoiding taxis, a surefire way to get tracked. Even if it was quite a distance to the shipyard, she would eventually make it there, pausing at the sight of it.[break][break]
It was a junkyard more than anything else, surrounded by a rusted chain-link fence that had seen better days. She had only heard about this place once or twice in the past, vaguely mentioned in articles about where "Ships go to Die", as they called it. Kaida could see why- the beach was littered with the corpses of boats, small and large, largely cut off from society as a no-go zone. It was a stretch, but she knew the freighter ship that clashed with the Inazuma wouldn't have gone past either Tokushima or Iwaki. It was too badly damaged for more than a few hours of sea travel.[break][break]
They were sure to be here, whoever they was. Hopefully her brother. She had more than a few "words" to give him. She was about to knock. Sincerely. She had always been against visiting this quirk specialist, only giving into it to perhaps make U.A happy or get the relief she thought she needed but deep down wasn't what she truly wanted. What she truly wanted? It was an easy enough answer.[break][break]
She needed them to hurry to their doom, as soon as possible.[break][break]
Kaida was conflicted. She would have hesitated to say in the past that she needed help, or rather, that she deserved it, but now she realised she needed it. Trying to kill other students was of course not a normal practice, but the dragoness didn't seek out help as- well, who knew what the consequences would be if anyone realised her alter ego's true motives? It had killed her on the inside to stay quiet, but the alternatives - being kicked out - would have killed her anyways. [break][break]
Was it really worth it to go through with this if there wasn't anything at the end, and more important things at hand? Could she afford to do that?[break][break]
Her hand dropped. She remembered. Running red rivers the colour blood soaked her hands, as well as the one she failed to protect. No. There wasn't any time for this. There wasn't any time at all... she can't wait around and let them hurt other people anymore- they've suffered for too long at their hands. They needed her now.[break][break]
It had been a good streak, if only for the two times she had showed up. But her brows creased in thought as she frowned and pursued her lips, standing still for a long moment before turning away. Kaida could spend her time doing better things- and that was pursuing the person who she was so surely convinced of that had been behind everything- the yakuza groups that consistently fought and followed her outside of U.A, Sōma's attack, Sango, the battle at Mikurajima. Everything.[break][break]
It's all their fault. It's their fault she could have been standing on her grave, as well as Jun and Kenzou's.[break][break]
They needed to go down.[break][break]
She promptly left, tugging the hood of her jacket over her head as she turned away and left the building, searching for the nearest subway station. With no hesitation, she left the hard work she had been building on and made for Tokushima as she boarded the train. Frost built in her heart as she stared at the passing buildings with an icy, forlorn look in her eyes- but her grip was clenched with fury. Whatever it took, she would find them. "why is a kid from the yakuza in u.a?" "it's not safe to be around her, is it?" "i hear her quirk is uncontrollable." and most of all, "has she killed anyone?"[break][break] gossip like this is commonplace. it's not like it doesn't weigh her shoulders down, though.[break][break] as the years have gone by within u.a, her family's crimes and her relationship with them continue to catch up with her. they appear and disappear without a trace, always serving to remind her of her goals with blazing fury and hatred- to destroy them, even if it means destroying herself. no matter what she does, they'll always be here with her, in mind, and in heart. sooner or later, she's going to reach a breaking point. sooner or later, she's going to snap- and the entire world will be there to see it.[break][break] [attr="class","col-right"]
ideas past / depending on where you're coming from, the ikarashi clan may have influenced your characters one way or another. whether it be from kaida in the one year she was roaming the streets of musutafu as a thug, or you or someone you cared about got caught up in debt or a bad deal with her family. there's easily dozens of connections to be made through the yakuza to kaida, and she's hellbent on keeping it a secret. want to stir something up? just mention what she or her clan might have done to someone. [break][break] present / she's not an easy person to get along with, she knows that much. her abrasiveness comes from reasonable roots, as kaida has lived her entire life in betrayal and lies, in limbo of not knowing if the next person who tries to make friends with her will eventually turn their backs and say good day- and also questioning herself if she even deserves that kindness. if your characters do somehow get past that icy wall she has around her heart, they'll quickly find an awkward but very caring dragoness as a friend. [break][break] future / kaida knows she's not destined for greatness. her roots, her future, her fate, decline her true happiness, because there will always be those who seek to take it from her- and from others. her family is damned to hell, and need to be put down- and as far as kaida's concerned, that's a burden that will fall on her and only her shoulders, no matter what cost might befall her. kaida cannot escape her past, and she will not be able to escape her future. want to try and stop her from falling into the pits of hell itself? your character is welcome to try. [break][break] having everything taken away from you in a single moment like that, including losing your mother, your sibling, and your career makes you just a little bit cranky.[attr="class","col-right"]
ideas past / his story will likely only matter to you if you've somehow heard his solos from across the sea, paid attention to the news or are from America. he was a street kid booted from a rich family, stole his way from Italy to America and enlisted in the army, and probably killed some folk in a firefight whilst FIGHTING FOR KING AND COUNTRY, but he wouldn't be bothered to mention it often unless it came up through a personal vendetta. [break][break]
present / right now he's just finding his voice in Japan since there wasn't much choice but to leave what he's known behind thanks to Mark's outlook on his life. a fresh start- that's what everyone who's known what's happened to him has said he's needed, but as far as Dante's seen, his audience is the only thing that's changed. he's still the narcissistic rockerboy he's always been since he witnessed people get atomised in a mini nuclear explosion, exploring for an opportunity to change his world- and others, too.[break][break]
future / sooner or later his selfishness will bite him in the ass, that's guaranteed. should you want to be the one who does that, or helps him get through the inevitable fiery death that will come his way, you're welcome to watch the fireworks explode. he's not a good person, but he'll do what it takes to get people to realise they're living in a horrific reality where no one really gets what they want thanks to the people up top.

"Child of Yakuza joins U.A? The intriguing story behind Kaida Ikarashi!"
Why Kaida joined U.A will likely forever be a mystery to the general public, to Kaida's misfortune. But it's no mystery to her why everyone seems to dislike her, to call her someone affiliated with the Yakuza and therefore affiliated with evil.
