Her brows raised considerably at Kei's sudden and unexpected determination, and at Jun and Auden's words. Really, she was... was happy the right word for this? Kaida laughed. Yes, laughed. But in her own way— a small upwards lilt of her lips as she chuckled, surprised, but happy that they were willingly partaking in the raid. "... Thank you. All of you." Her face grew straight again, the moment of vulnerability gone. "Kenzou Kagutsuchi and Superintendant Aoshima will explain the proceedings of the attack."[break][break] After she had spoken, the aforementioned hero entered the room with a disgruntled looking Luki. Had him and Kenzou argued about something? Curious, she peered after the pair as they spoke briefly to Superintendant Aoshima. A stout man with salt and pepper hair, dressed in formal police wear but with aged wrinkles present on his face, nodded a few times before moving to the projector of which a presentation was shone on the far wall at the head of the table in the middle of the room. Aoshima must have been the one to make Luki interrogate Jun and her. Kaida sat down near the middle, watching fondly as Yogi stopped his pacing and sat down by Kei with another content rumble. [break][break] "YOUR ATTENTION, PLEASE!"[break][break] Ah, there it was. Kenzou's voice. Having being used to her eardrums ruptured in his presence, she didn't flinch, but looking at the other police officers and heroes seated in the room was like witnessing a tree being blown down by strong winds. Any prior conversation was shattered as they stared at the blazing professional hero, who simply stood there with his arms crossed and that same-old relentless eccentric smile.[break][break] "Thank you, Kagutsuchi." Aoshima grumbled, taking his hands from his ears. "I thank you all for attending today. With the Ikarashi Clan gone to shadows and their movements silent for the past twenty years, efforts to bring this yakuza syndicate to justice for their crimes have all been void. Until now, thanks to Miss Kanjo and Ikarashi's information, a settlement, believed to contain various weapon prototypes has been brought to light. Takamagahara is an immense castle located in the Niigata region, outside of Nagaoka. Apprehending weaponry comes second!" The projector flipped to the next page— satellite imagery of the castle Takamagahara showed itself, an immense white fortress surrounded by forestry. "Simply to say, this is no laughing matter! I have investigated into the yakuza for the past five years, and despite my induced rest after Tokushima, I have to say there is no raid that has amounted to this level yet! You would do well to prepare yourselves!" [break][break] Kaida was listening intently to the hero until that point. He had been investigating into the yakuza, privately? She blanched. He knew how important the yakuza was to Kaida— she hated them, loathed them. Kaida's one and only helpful contribution to the conversation was a snort as Jun fell flat on her face. Yes, very helpful. She was here to help... as a person. As much as she wanted to aid the small gang in their endeavors, the last usage of her quirk resulted in her almost losing control on her dragon— should she transform now in her weakened state, there was a chance that it might try and reign terror again. She didn't want that. Kaida didn't have any equipment to fight with outside of her quirk, either. [break][break]
She should probably try and fix that. Maybe Kei would have some ideas on what she could make?[break][break]
Sighing as Jun ran off, she quickly glanced at the rest of them before following her best friend. "I'll help as much as I can, but I'm not using my quirk for this."

"I am completely in agreement!" Kenzou boomed in response to Jun. "Admission of wrongdoing should only be executed through good-heartedness and pure goals! Accomplishing these means on these two, who have been through too much pain to count, is a clear violation of everything I've set out to do in life!" To Kaida's utmost dismay, Kenzou followed up by bowing so lowly his head hit the table. But of course, he was completely unaffected, and the sound of such an action made her flinch as it echoed throughout the room. "I APOLOGISE! I've failed you as a mentor, and as your dear friend!"[break][break]
Kaida felt like a fish with the way she was struggling to respond. Kenzou, a highly esteemed and respected professional hero, about the only one she didn't despise, was bowing so deeply that she knows his back will hurt later. It's unbelievable. Unfathomable. She felt like crying. Kaida doesn't like crying. "Please," Kaida whispered. "raise your head. This isn't necessary."[break][break]
"But it is!" Kenzou shouted back, head still fully melded to the table. "I should have been there to stop you two from entering that battle! If I had been there, you both would not be in such a position!"[break][break]
"You were in a coma—"[break][break]
"A mistake of my own making! I will not do it again!"[break][break]
Gods, she's actually going to cry. Sucking in a deep breath, she repeated herself. "It's okay, Kenzou. Just, please look at us."[break][break]

"Understand that what we did was of our own volition. We did it anyways, despite knowing what might happen, and that's completely our fault. We're the ones in the wrong, not you."[break][break]
Kenzou hummed, still smiling. "That is true! You two should have never done such a thing. So in the future, I will aim to train you into better mindsets! Especially ones better than this fiend." He glanced at Luki, who only shrugged. Looking back, he gave a gentler smile with a less powerful voice. "You both can rest assured now. U.A.U has taken full responsibility for your actions. There's no unseemly prison for the likes of you two young girls." He raised himself back to his full height, crossing his arms. "However, due action must be taken. I believe you both already know what that is. If Detective Andou is done here..."[break][break]
"Mhm. I got what I wanted." Luki grunted, readjusting his glasses. "Let me be clear about something— I don't like either of you. Especially you." He glared at Kaida. "You get everyone mixed up in your daddy and mommy issues, and I'm not afraid to say that it's been an absolute detriment to the people around you. I can't be all sunny like Kenzou here and see the brighter side of you whilst there's something far more sinister lurking underneath." He looked at Kenzou, who merely tilted his head. "But I've seen more than just a monster today. You have the potential to be something else, and only if you listen to the people around you. And you," He looked to Jun. "you could probably do a lot better. I see a bright future in your path, but it has the potential to go elsewhere, and that might not be good, either. Kenzou, I trust that you'll compromise for these facts."[break][break]
"Of course! I will take responsibility for their wellbeing!"[break][break]
"Alright. Don't forget about that appointment later."[break][break]
Not bothering to wait for a response, Luki promptly left, leaving Kaida and Kenzou to stare after him. Kenzou hummed again, looking down at both students with some reservation. "How does grabbing a bite to eat after all that sound?"

Amidst the cold, there was warmth. Kaida didn't like the warmth— if it ever came in the form of sweltering heat, the hot unbearable summers, she would shy away in a dark corner. The sun never liked her. It had a harsh gaze, and refused to let her enjoy its warmth, both mentally and physically. In some ways, she's always turned away from the light. But there's a soft fragrance in her dream, like the warm touch of someone's hand, a someone who she had never met, but felt like she could trust her life with.[break][break]

She doesn't like being warm.[break][break]
That same harsh sunlight pierced her eyes as she snapped awake, the setting sun doing no justice for her bleary vision. Then it's gone— the drug is still doing its rounds on her, pulling backwards only to be launched forwards straight into her body. Blearily, she fell unconscious again. The next time she stirred, greens blurred by her vision. It only felt like seconds before she's in a different environment, but logically, time must have passed quickly. Before Kaida knew it, she was in someone's home. She felt herself being set down somewhere— where that was, she wasn't entirely sure, but the more she woke the more she felt the guilt creeping in.[break][break]
She should say something. Really, she should. But Kaida doesn't feel like she's at a liberty to, not after endangering that girl's life like that. So she stayed quiet, and would only speak if spoken to.

She does notice the glances flung her way, a notion she subtly frowned at, before turning her attention to the small, robotic orb Kei seemed to be having a fit over. So that was what had ran by her earlier? Kaida commended Kei for having created such a thing that was far faster than her comprehension— she had hardly realised it was there before it had passed behind her. And by the looks of it, it's gone rogue, and Kei wanted to capture it. Kaida glanced between them and the robot. How the hell were they going to do that?[break][break]
Shouting interrupted her thoughts as she stared up at the rogue unit, a flash of coral at the edge of her vision, looking back to see Jun entering the fray. Not to her surprise, she's immediately noticed Kaida, and is mothering over her already. Kaida grimaced and looked down at the bandages wrapped around her body— there's almost no skin not covered by the cloth, apart from her shoulders, fingers, head and neck. The one on her cheek isn't doing well at hiding the bruising from that one shard of shrapnel that struck her, either. She's not wearing anything apart from black slacks, a tank top and combat boots that will cover it up.[break][break]
Yeah, by all accounts, she should be resting. But there's a lot on her mind.[break][break]
"If you're saying that, then shouldn't you be as well?" Kaida eventually ambled her way over, but stopped a fair distance away to look back at the robot. "And, does your girl's night out usually consist of going on a wild goose chase for a small... annoying, possibly sentient marble?"

The detonation of Jun's cannon rung in her ears like windchimes, although far less pleasantly than she had anticipated— how her best friend hadn't blown out her own ears at this point, Kaida didn't know, but it was hardly something to think about. The pondering escaped her thoughts as shadows overtook the sun, something unworldly and with a menacing aura that struck into her very bones, a structure larger than any skyscraper she had ever seen looming over them. But it didn't attack. It didn't make a sound. It was just... there.[break][break]
There, and not doing anything.[break][break]
By all accounts, it should have done something. Attacked, killed them, ended their lives like the snap of a god's fingers. But it does nothing but stay still and silent as a mere promise of what could have been. Kaida let go of the breath she didn't know she was holding. Was it over? She glanced back at the remnants of the Tortured's what-was human body. It's not there. [break][break]
Logically, that would have meant everything had been dealt with. The blunt stinging in her abdomen says that there's a lot more left to deal with than just fighting— and that's dealing with the aftermath. The hatred of the public for not doing enough to save those innocents. The guilt that would hinder her forever after for that. The trauma that would plague all the students present.[break][break]
The dragoness heaved another breath, her gigantic form shivering as she knelt down to shove at Jack, to get him up, to get him moving. She hoped she would hear sirens in the distance soon. The silence foreshadowed how many people had lived.[break][break]

Kaida followed at Luki and Kenzou's heels, glancing down to see Yogi, the great white pyrenees belonging to Kenzou, happily trotting at her side. When did he get here? As if in response to her confusion, Yogi glanced up with a big happy smile— or was that just him panting? She didn't know, but was nonetheless calmed in his presence. She wasn't a dog person, but Yogi brought warmth to anyone's day, much like his owner. [break][break]
Kenzou waved at a few of his employees as they passed by with a grin, before stopping outside of the meeting room. "I have a few things I want to go over with Detective Andou before we start. I'll be right behind you. Why don't you go say hello to your friends in the meantime?" [break][break]

Not wanting to spend another second closer to Luki, who stared after her before diverting his attention back to the fire hero, Kaida opening the door to the meeting room. Immediately her eyes landed on Kei, the one person she had discussed most about to Kenzou in terms of potential— but unfortunately, never once mentioning his hesitation and due anxiety in battle. Had she known Kenzou had his eye on him, she would have stopped her mentor on the spot. The last thing she wanted was someone like Kei getting caught up in this whole disastrous kerfuffle, but he was already here. Kaida would assure him nonetheless he could back out if he wanted to.[break][break]
Her gaze crossed the room, landing on the various heroes and police officers, along with Superintendent Aoshima who gave her a quiet nod, to land on both Jun and Auden. She expected Jun, but for Auden to answer the cause as well? Perhaps Jun had told him about the raid because of their student and boss-employee relationship, or he had simply answered the call for help. Yogi left her side immediately upon seeing the students with a blurred wagging tail, letting a happy whine escape his jowls as he greeted Kei, Auden and Jun in order, eventually choosing to sit down by Jun. She approached them all, an unhappy grimace on her face, but relief washed through her too. "I'm gladdened to see the three of you here today." Kaida said with a dip of her head— a bow. "It must have been a difficult choice. What this raid entails is anything but safety and reassurance, and you're willingly putting yourselves at risk to help my younger sister and conquer my family's settlement. I..." She stuttered slightly. "... thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely."

All her life, she had tried to do things right. But with recent events, everyone was screaming at her to tell her she had done nothing but wrong. Maybe they were right. She didn't quite know anymore. How do you change a mind so set on one sole goal, the singular one and none other, so stubbornly stuck in itself out of rage and resentment? It happens when everything they've known falls around them, when they realise their wrongdoings, and how it helps no one. Just like now. Just like she was doing to Jun. She... At that realisation, Kaida's hands froze in their shaking as she slowly withdrew from Jun, a hollow feeling encumbering her. For most of their time together, she had thought they were worlds apart. Now... now, she can see that they're not so different— selflessness, and selfishness all together. [break][break]

Slowly, Kaida approached Jun again, wrapping her arms around her both in support and out of compassion, regret, something else she couldn't quite put her finger on. An action that conveyed what she couldn't speak, almost like she was asking for forgiveness, but didn't dare speak for it. A shuddering breathing escaped Kaida as her eyes slid shut, completely ignoring their circumstances.[break][break]
At this action, Luki's eyes briefly widened, before chuckling softly. But unlike the animosity he held before, it was a noise of relief, a smile on his lips that bore no ill will. The senior shifted at the sound. "I'm done," Luki said, glancing back at the one-way window behind him. "you can come in now, Kenzou-san." [break][break]

Immediately upon being called, the door opened, and her mentor appeared. Kaida's breath hitched once more as she stared at him— he was awake? From his coma? She had heard he was in an unconscious state, able to non-verbally respond to nurses, but to see him up and walking around made her heart skip a beat. He looked the same as ever, unlike the eerie near-death visage that haunted her back at sea, apart from the thin scar that struck through his left cheek. Flaming red hair and that strange ever-present grin on his lips with wide eyes. It was him. He was here.[break][break]

Kaida could take it, she would find a way out, she could weather the storm— she was used to this treatment. But Jun? Kaida trusted Jun with all her heart, but feared she would break under such a harsh life, one that would denounce her current one of all meaning. This is... what is she saying? The senior gasped when Jun collapsed, immediately yanking herself from her chair to catch Jun, trying to support her weight. Kaida gritted her teeth. She had already been weak from the Mikurajima incident— this plus that, the mental stress of everything piling on, it was impressive that she hadn't blanked out earlier. Even now, Kaida could feel the exhaustion pulling at her, like heavy weights pressing down on her skin. They felt ever more cumbersome as Jun kept speaking. "Don't say such foolish things," Kaida hissed, hurt that Jun would think so little of herself. Giving up her dreams just for a lousy friend that never listened when best? "everyone already knows that I'm at fault. You're not the one with a stained criminal record, so please— just keep it that way. Luki sighed as he glared at her over the rim of his glasses. "Not really. Feels like I'm watching a bad soap opera." He yawned. "It's all utterly drab, I've seen it a thousand times. Someone tries to take the blame for the other, but in the end, we all know who's really at fault. Doesn't matter how much you beg or cry to try and get a different outcome." He paused, then lowered the folder. "Actually, I've been wondering. You two have known each other for a while now, and seem awfully close, but I can't quite wrap my head around why you're so willing to throw yourselves at each other's feet. Honestly, people might try and get others out of the mud, but I've never seen it to this degree before."

Everything seemed to happen so quickly but drag by at a snail's pace, like pulling back against elastic and anticipating for it to be released. Kaida kept wandering back to her singular train of thought— she couldn't wait for it to be over, put this person to rest, however it might be done or if it would kill him. There wasn't room for errors, or sympathy here— at least, in her mind, the mind that had been trained to produce results no matter how stained her hands could become. She froze, her heart skipping a beat at the sign of her sister looking up at her, lips about to move like she was going to say something. Kaida had never felt cold before. She didn't even think she could be.[break][break]
But her vision is clouded as Jack crashed in, dust and debris obscuring whatever illusion had dared to pose itself as her elder sister. Kasumi hadn't been seen in over five years— to show up in an event like this, seemingly with intents only to cause bloodshed, that wouldn't be her style. She may have been a part of the Ikarashi Clan, but she wasn't so insane to murder people in cold blood. There's no way she would ever do that to me, Kaida thought. Not my sister.[break][break]
Saving the Tortured wasn't what was in mind for Kaida. That creature was a threat, undeniably so, and with a shiver Kaida realised that Jack may have needlessly endangered himself and everyone else around them— it was already suffering, and would suffer more if they prolonged its life. If were up to her, she would have killed it on the spot.[break][break]
Something told her Jack wasn't about to let her do that.[break][break]
Dropping down from the building, the dragon stalked over to Jack to peer down at him, tail swishing in agitation. If the Tortured dared try anything, she would be ready for it.

Luki, despite his passive-aggressiveness, was right in every sense of his words. She had not asked for help, not once, not once in the past five years she had been on her own mission solely to destroy the Ikarashi Clan— but what results did she have to show for it? The two times that anyone actually threatening has shown up, she's only hurt herself, hurt Jun, hurt Kenzou, with no end to their war in sight. Turmoil were like waves in Kaida's heart, smashing against a dam, but the leader's actions and words cement against the cracks. The more they droned on, the more they got impatient, the more it seemed like they were going to harm that girl. The kind stranger she had never met before, who was seemingly willing to give up her life for Kaida— and for what? What person could possess such selflessness? Was she just like that, or insane? What could she do against all these people?[break][break]
Against a mighty storm, all you can do is run for cover.[break][break]
Your light mustn't go out, Kaida thought, looking past the leader's legs at the girl. To think that I would just sit here and wallow while this happened— useless! Unforgivable! Disgraceful![break][break]
But some people choose to weather it.[break][break]
"I've already given you enough chances," the leader hissed, waving their arm. On cue, the men moved forwards towards the girl, wires in their hands. The leader flinched in response to Kaida's movement, looking over their shoulder at them, only in time to see her tail shoot forwards.[break][break]
Layered in sword-sharp ice, they barely had time to scream before the dragon flung them into the forest, out of sight in mere seconds. Panic ensued, terrified gasps as Kaida stirred just barely from her slumber with an attempt to stand, a snarl lifting her lips and her lids closing over her eyes as she rose, tail swinging and hitting the man holding her right wing down. With one part of her free, she strained against her bonds, finding little to no rebut against the cowards who were now screaming as she rose to her full height, her gaze set on something unseen— but to her she was looking at the sun, the sun— the person who had tried to desperately to help her.[break][break]
Sluggishly, Kaida marched forwards with a roar, the poachers actually leaping out of her way as she crossed the field in seconds, dipping her snout down underneath the girl, aiming to land her on the dragon's back. Kaida ducked as another tranquillizer dart was fired her way, bouncing off of her horns fruitlessly. She spread her wings and snapped at the men who got in her way as she made her running start to shoot into the air, high, high above the forest, far away from the people who had tried to hurt them.[break][break]
Kaida's draconic voice hissed out, the wind like needles against her feathers, pin pricks on her skin. Blankly she realised it was the same feeling for when you lose feeling in your limbs, the sensation of static. Time didn't feel real, nothing around her did, sleep like a chain dragging her into the darkness. The trees around them were coming up quicker than she had a waking moment to do anything about it— she barely registered herself wrapping her own body around the ground and before she knew it, a dull, flashing and unbearable pain struck its way like lightning across her body as she made contact with the ground. [break][break]
Eventually, she slid to a stop, the sun blaring against her tightly shut eyes. It was bright— had they landed in a field? It didn't matter. Nothing mattered. Only that they were away from those people... away, and safe. Kaida didn't realise she had returned to her human form, dirt a feeling on her hands and grass in her hair, shadowing her face. God... this wasn't what she had planned for today.

Detective Luki hummed as he penned down more writing, occasionally nodding to Jun's words. "However, you both still acted unaccordingly and willingly engaged in a fight. Junsuina, instead of calling for help, you aided your friend in destruction of property and assault on the peoples, even if they were engaging in illegal activities. Kaida, I heard you had ample time to run away after you discovered that your brothers were there. Why did you both engage despite what danger they posed to you?"[break][break]
She felt something in her twitch, but kept her composition still. "My emotions got the better of me." Kaida admitted. "I likely would have left shortly after gathering information. But the knowledge of a previously unknown family member shocked me into acting against them."[break][break]
Luki looked up. "Your... sister, correct?"[break][break]
Kaida nodded. "My younger one."[break][break]
"Ah, how tragic!" Luki sighed. "A young girl placed into the hands of those madmen. Simply unthinkable."[break][break]
Kaida stared at him.[break][break]
"That aside, you both still maintain your status as hero students. Emotions, while your situation was understandable, must not be acted upon irrationally. This was taught to you, surely? Why did you not acknowledge what your teachers taught you?"[break][break]
The senior gritted her teeth. He's asking her them the same question again— probably trying to lead them around in circles and trip them up. "Irrationality is a part of human nature. It cannot be fully trained out of our minds, no matter the circumstance. Whilst I acknowledge I acted irrationally, I maintain that irrationality based upon emotional impulse should be something that should be understood— within reason."[break][break]
Luki stared back at her menacingly, despite the smile on his face. "You're not answering my question. Either of you." He said. "I'm asking why, despite the risks you posed to everyone, that you still continued upon your assault without requesting help?"[break][break]
Kaida paused. What was she supposed to say to that? That she didn't need it? She didn't want help, despite her putting lives in jeopardy? Kaida looked at Jun. Kaida knew the answer to that question, as well as Jun— Kaida operated solely on the belief that every sin acted upon by her clan should be dealt with her hands, and her hands alone, to not put any other lives in danger. But... all she's done now is hurt, hurt and hurt others, specifically Jun, specifically Kenzou— without making any progress on her mission. She's made all this effort, unsuccessfully, and only hurt her friends. What result did she have to show for anything she did? "I..."[break][break]
Luki's smile widened. She had tried to avoid his spiderweb, but she had flown right into it anyway.[break][break]
The detective continued to write before opening the third manila folder, grey eyes flickering over the papers. "According to the archives, Junsuina, this isn't the first time this has happened. Kaida continues to act upon impulse and puts everyone around her in danger, but you still follow her, and don't reach out for help to anyone else. Can you tell me why this is?"

The girl's shot made the man cry out in pain, his hold loosening on her neck. She'd like to extend her thanks, but there's already two other men replacing him, sleeked out in camouflaged uniforms and mud on their faces. Are they also hunters? Yes, people like them exist to rid the dangerous quirked beasts from these forests, however, their actions suggest them as otherwise. If they were hunters, they wouldn't be trying to attack that girl. Despite her lethargy, Kaida deduced them to be poachers, looking for a rare pelt to sell off to an illegal bidder.[break][break]

To her surprise, the girl seemed to be holding up very well on her own. Though more people appear at the edge of her vision, throwing ropes over her wings, one wrapping around her snout and clamming her jaw shut. Even if the girl did use up all her arrows, there's no way she can fight them all— not without the intention of killing, and with the way she simply seemed to be aiming to slow them, Kaida knows that there's a type of purity in the girl's heart that has yet to be shadowed. Run, the dragoness tried to tell her with her eyes, staring down at her. Run! This doesn't concern you! I'm not having anyone else caught up in my mistakes.[break][break]
Her legs are thrown out from beneath her, having no strength in her muscles to fight the wires that tugged at every possible surface on her body, falling to the ground with a snarl. She tried to shift, but the netting is a solid weight above her. Someone's boots moved into her vision from the ground, a more heavyset looking person, but their voice is lighter than the other's. They have a mask on. They all do. Tengu masks, she briefly realised.[break][break]
The leader folds their hands behind their back as they stare down at Kaida, into her blazing icy-amber eyes, now glazing over with tiredness. They look behind themselves and throw out a hand. "Leave the girl!" They said to the men surrounding the kind stranger. "Even if we do capture her, it just means more trouble for us. Let her run away." The leader looked down upon Kaida. "Even if she were to try to fetch help, I sincerely doubt anyone would care about one measly beast."

Though he was once human, Kaida felt no sympathy for the thing begging for its life beneath her talons. She could hear its cries echo in the cocoon it had made not of its own volition, but of whatever what was controlling it— or rather, who. The more and more they fought the more it seemed to be controlled solely by itself, like a new entity, rather than remotely. Whoever had made this monstrosity, they weren't anywhere near here, so at least there was no worry for that.[break][break]

With pain making her stutter in practically every claw and tear she made at the cocoon, Kaida knew that she would rather have this battle over sooner than later, and the stress evident on the other student's faces let her know that they shared the same sentiment. The tangling strings of metal that snagged into her feathers made the dragoness roar out once more, her tail, already sharpened like a deadly sword as ice, swung out to snap the tendrils in two, eventually making its way over her shoulder with haste, fully intending on piercing the layers of metal.[break][break]
It grated against every fiber of her body, making her grit her teeth. Metal had more durability than ice. They weren't a good match. Hearing Jack's voice in her ears, a plan on his tone, she glanced between the cocoon and him before spreading her wings, taking off to the nearest building. She would only get in his and Jun's way with her large body— if they could make an opening, she would take it.
