Jun's family seemed to be an absolute maze of people— every turn she took, there was someone new mentioned. In her family, she had just been limited to her parents and siblings as the main branch. There were some side-family branches, but none ultimately bore fruit as the main family was the only one meant to prosper— the one person from the side-families she had ever gotten to know well enough was her cousin and maid, Ai. Her father was from the main family, whilst her mother had been nominated from another clan to intertwine with theirs, her mother's ultimately becoming obsolete.[break][break]
It's not like she considered them family, so there wasn't any point thinking about it. She only cared about her sisters, anyway.[break][break]
"How devilish of them." Kaida commented, her thoughts seemingly elsewhere as she nodded, merely staring down at Jun as her friend seemed to be in imminent despair. "Most of your father's side of the family seemed deeply linked in the defense of Japan." She added. "How far does this occupation go back, if I can ask?"

When it came to Jun's family, Kaida was always reminded of how stark the differences between them and hers were. Kaida's could be explained on a simple basis, only because she never wanted to talk about it; that being their pure evil and selfish traits. Whereas Jun's, she felt as though there was so much going on that she couldn't keep up with. The mutual disagreements between family members, but nonetheless harboring love for each other, was such a foreign concept that all the senior could do was merely hum along and listen.[break][break]
She doesn't understand, not fully. But seeing the excitement on Jun's face, such a rare sight to behold, Kaida didn't dare spoil a moment of it.[break][break]
It sounded like it was going to be one hell of a holiday. She might get to witness an across-family throw-down with Jun's in-laws, and Kaida doesn't know if it's something she's looking forward to or not, because all she's going to be doing is standing there awkwardly while they shouted at each other. Then again, it could be pleasant. She didn't know what to expect.[break][break]
Jun grabbing Kaida's hand snapped her out of her thoughts, the dragoness looking down in mild wonder at their intertwined palms as her best friend pulled her along, finding no reason to not go along with it. When they eventually came eye-to-eye with Jun's family, Kaida would bow slightly, ever the traditionalist. "It's nice to see you again." She said placidly.

That simple action gave her more than enough knowledge— Daiki was on par with her elder siblings, even Kenzou her mentor, and that was bad news for the both of them. So so bad, that she froze as he closed the distance between them, stunned, even with that new knife in his hands.[break][break] "Daiki, back off!"[break][break] What are you doing? Snap out of it! [break][break] The beast's voice registered in her mind after Kazashi had deflected the second knife away from the senior, Kaida whipping her gaze upwards as Daiki brought his leg into her with tremendous force, sending her skidding across the floor, barely managing to block it in time. That was going to leave some heavy bruises. Hopping backwards to Kazashi's side again, she brought her fists to the sides of her face in a defensive position alluring to her fighting style, sending one quick glance to her friend. "What the hell is this guy's deal? Kazashi," Kaida hissed. "I don't want to fight in your apartment— or get you involved in this—" she broke off, true uncertainty in her eyes. "What do you want me to do?" She sucked in a breath, facing Daiki with newfound pure, unadulterated anger in her icy-amber eyes. Bringing the both of them into his goals, when all they should have been doing today was talking— that was it, just talking. Catching up on old times, and figuring out how to deal with the future. If this entire set of events was a slapstick comedy, Kaida would have rated it five stars.[break][break]
Had she not been concerned for her friend, she might have laughed at how perfect the timing was, but that resounding thunk of the robot off of Kei's head made her think his skull was most likely, at least, fractured. It was one way to end the chase, she supposed, if not through the sacrifice of the support student's impossibly smart brain.[break][break]
For that reason, she was struggling to keep the smile off of her face, almost appearing manic as she quickly passed by Jun and grabbed the robot in her hands with a firm grip. She took a deep breath to revalidate herself back to her usual stoicism, vaguely wondering where the hell those feelings had come from before staring down at the contraption with an annoyed glare. "You've got a lot to answer for." She muttered under her breath, pondering if robots could serve under felonious charges.[break][break]
Kaida took one look at Kei to see how he was holding up, raising a brow before looking at Jun. "We should probably hurry..." She said. "Freja, help your classmate out, too. I don't trust this thing to not run off again."

At the deafening silence, Kenzou hummed loudly. "Nothing? Good!"[break][break]
Despite the loud comforting boom of her mentor's voice, there was the inevitable dread like an icy trickle down the valley of her back, a snake waiting with its jaws unhinged to strike. In a way, she felt she should be comforted— this was the first true step forward to the collapse of her family, and hopefully yakuza as a whole... but it was a risk, such a huge, huge risk, and deep down she knew that no one would get out unscathed. No one could escape death, especially when it came early, and with a heavy heart, Kaida realised it may happen tomorrow, whether to friend or foe.[break][break]
Even with her hatred for her family, she hoped it didn't happen at all.[break][break]
The meeting ended after a couple hours with careful devising and strategy, her position within the assault burned into the back of her eyelids. Kaida went to bed early, knowing sleep wouldn't come easy. Then, before the sun rose, at four in the morning, all forces converged on the town in which Takamagahara was situated. At seven in the morning, with the sun on the horizon, the castle was surrounded.[break][break]
Kenzou, now adorned in his hero attire, breathed in loudly with his exhale outlined by the fog of the chilly morning air. "What a cold snap! Not cold enough for me though, hahaha!" He looked down to Kei, who he had been partnered with, the other heroes milling about anxiously as they waited for the signal to attack. Kaida wasn't present. "Young Hada, this is your first on-field assignment, yes?" Kenzou asked, grinning at the student. "Well, there's no need to worry! Just stick with me and everything will be okay!"

As if in agreement, Yogi, who was dressed in tactical gear, boofed loudly at Kenzou's side, wagging his tail as he panted. Kenzou laughed loudly again. "Well said, Yogi! Alongside Jun's words, Kaida couldn't help but think of her friend's mother furthermore when she mentioned her. In the brief moment they were alone together at Jun's house, Jun's mother had quietly and solemnly thanked Kaida for being Jun's friend— and she knew with the tremor in her tone, loneliness hadn't been a factor in Jun's small circle of friends. Something else had happened, but out of respect for her privacy, Kaida had never questioned anything. But her actions, Jun's intense stubbornness, suddenly had a lot more credibility to it.[break][break]
To hear Jun hurt like this hurt her— but it's never about her, it's only about the people she wanted to protect, and the people she wanted to destroy. Like Jun, she's incredibly stubborn when she wants to be, and that would likely never change— but it's different when you directly hurt the people around you, the ones you tried so hard to protect. Kaida blanched as Jun finished, firmly gripping her friend's shoulders as she bared her teeth.[break][break]
"Don't say that," she hissed. "you could never be a burden to me. I— you're right, I have been selfish, and I... I really, really don't deserve your kindness for all I've put you through, and I'm thankful for you being here. But some of this won't change, and what happened might happen again." Her thoughts flash back to Kenzou's lifeless body in that harsh sea-spray, and Jun's words about her friend's deaths. "People might die, and there's nothing we can do about that. If you want to continue doing this with me, you have to acknowledge that path won't be a painless one. There's going to be a lot of hardship. If you understand that, then I'll do all I can to keep us charging through it."[break][break]
Kaida quieted for a moment, breathing in through her nose as she closed her eyes, as if revalidating her existence. "You don't have a place in my world, but despite that fact, you're here every day of my life. Your tenacity is one of the things I admire about you, you know." In the brief snap of Kaida's vulnerability, there's a gentle and genuine smile, before it's gone like a blizzard rushing through a brittle forest, and the dragoness stood to her full height once more and retrieved the tanto on the table. Outside of the building, Kenzou waited still with his terrifying smile and stared down at them as they exited. Kaida took note of the meter tall object of something wrapped in red cloth that he was holding, and definitely didn't have before. "You've returned, good! We should make haste to your teacher's office at once! But firstly," Kenzou said, unwrapping the cloth and revealing a stack of bento boxes. "here!"[break][break]
He gave one to Kaida and one to Jun. Wordlessly, Kaida stared down at it as if it were going to poison her. "Where did you even get all of those?"[break][break]
"A passing salesman was offering them to workers on their breaks! I thought it was generous of him, so I bought all of them!"[break][break]
Kaida sighed, silently taking note of how Kenzou was staring at the tanto in Kaida's other hand. "Of course you did."[break][break]
"There's no time to lose! Let us depart immediately!"[break][break]
Kaida sighed again, moving to enter the taxi that was waiting for them.

oh but kazashi being jolyne fits so well tho ;; coincidentally enough id thought of kaida having annies voice from AOT, then the RWBY anime came out and blake had annies va lmaoo dante is a really hard case since i dont know of many male japanese vas that had a country accent to them. kiba from naruto was the closest i could get to what i was thinking of i wouldnt change the others voices from what they were as their face claims! but this is an interesting idea for sure, i hope more people put their characters in ♥ |

A movie? Kaida hummed in agreeance, if slightly hesitant. She wouldn't even know where to being with media— her life outside of training was pitifully boring. Her train of thought was swiftly cut short as Kei and Freja called out to them once more, Kaida glancing down at the robot with a placid expression— ever the eye of the storm in panicky situations. She won't use her quirk— she had said so before, and she wouldn't go back on those words. Risking the beast for such a trivial matter as this wasn't on her agenda. So she thought of the best next thing; and that was grabbing the nearest loose steel pipe next to her, hoisting it over her shoulder, and aiming to throw it directly below the ball. Shrapnel and dust exploded in a heavy cloud of ash as the atmosphere around her swirled, brushing her hair backwards as she rolled her shoulders. She wasn't in the greatest shape to be hauling around giant metal beams. If she was correct in her assumption, the robot had no aerial propulsion, and if it were flung to the air and had nowhere to go, one of them could use that opening.

It's about what you'd expect from someone of his caliber.
He has patience, yes, as picking a fight isn't exactly ideal given his physical stature. Though, underneath his seemingly calm exterior that sports the occasional quip, he has a bit of a bite to his bark. There's two halves to the people in his story- the ones who squirm, and the ones who don't. You put up with either, your fuse gets blown. He grumbles at the apologetic types and snaps at the ones who think he's in their way, and he has to thank them for the broken bones and newly oh so beautiful bruises that they've given him. But that's fine- he'll find his way out sooner or later of this hellscape he can't see but knows far too well through his other four senses.
When you've been given the short end of the stick in this world of superhumans, when you're a nobody, you can let go of that stick- or grab, and pull.

He's blind.
No need to fluff about with it, Rei would say. Why bother? What's the problem? He can feel how nervous you are, tripping over your own feet to try and make sure that you don't say something wrong. Don't worry about it- he's heard the same excuses about "how you didn't realise" and that sorta thing, yadda yadda. It's normal. It's okay. He's used to it, there's nothing to be done about it, it won't change. It's okay. It's not okay.
Rei stands at a decent height with a lithe body and his straight ink-black hair usually tied back and out of the way of his eyes- not that it matters. His eyes themselves are murky and unseeing, and he's usually staring off into the distance with that fake one-hundred-mile stare coloured blood red that he might want to cover up with sunglasses if he feels someone else's gaze burning him. Rei usually sports a minimalistic style in clothing with jeans, jackets and shirts- though it's not to say his style isn't out of wack sometimes because, well, he might have put the wrong thing on- or just wore it backwards. Either or.

When Rei was born, a coin was flipped.
Most of the time in this day and age, it lands on heads, and people are granted powers thought unbelievable mere decades ago when the supernatural was thought to be pure myth. Fire breathing, manipulation of time, extraordinary healing abilities- anything. Then the other side of the coin lands on tails, and people are granted nothing but jealousy, and xenophobia towards the self for being... "different" than what we're now used to, what is now favourable. But what if you're so unlucky that the coin doesn't land on either, and only on its side?
Well, you get one very, very angry person.
Born blind in such a powerful world, Rei hoped for a quirk that would make his life worth living, which of course never came. Evolution didn't choose him, so he chose to look elsewhere for sources of power in listening and learning the tendencies of the bullies who thought him an easy target for their frustrations, chuckling at them when they realised they'd been beaten by someone as weak as him. Then he'd get his ass beat by their reinforcements. He'd get his money stolen, he'd steal it back and a few fingers with it if he desired. His parents from the foster system didn't care about what he did or what he accomplished, so it's win-win there.
But it's not enough. He needs to go higher. He needs to find a solution, something, power, fame, anything that will get him on top. It doesn't matter when, it doesn't matter how, only that it happens. As a person with nothing left to lose, he'll do anything to become what he deserves.

But who cares? If they do, they're going to get a nasty surprise from the blade hidden inside that cane since they weren't watching where they were going. The cane is black with a silver pommel, with feathery engravings on it and on the blade itself. SKILLS  SWORDSMANSHIP C Given that he's more than a little impaired, he relies heavily on his other four senses to compensate for his sight- and that comes in physical touch and sensation. Instead of long-ranged combat, Rei finds his passion in Iaido-style swordsmanship to compensate for any fast attacks that may come his way. Seeing that Jun was a little worse for wear, Kenzou lowered his voice, if whisper-shouting could be considered quiet. "I know. But I'm far stronger than I look! She supposed she should have expected as much. Owning the family title of Ikarashi meant that you were bound to have enemies, even if you hadn't done any wrong— that was simply the weight that came with the name. Amongst villains versus heroes, there were also villains versus villains, and competition between well respected factions was commonplace. If this were such the case, Kaida couldn't help but wonder who in her family might have put a bounty on her head. It wasn't to say she hadn't done any wrong. As far as Kaida is concerned, she's been doing everything wrong her entire life.[break][break]
The man, Daiki as Kazashi had called him, seemed like a problematic opponent, from what her friend had said. It was an understatement. Anyone able to get inside her head was an extreme threat to Kaida for a various amount of reasons— and not just the valuable information she retained, but of what the monster in her would do if it felt someone poking around inside her. Kaida's clenched fists shake— she's going to start bleeding if she pondered too much longer. Kazashi wasn't Daiki's target— but she could be, and Daiki could use Kazashi against her.[break][break]
She's just a civvie at this point! She's pregnant, for god's sake! You need to do something about this, Kaida, goddammit![break][break]
She's in so much of a tizzy about her priorities that the knife skimmed her cheek by the thinnest hair as she dodged away from Kazashi, and with record speed, she closed the minute distance between her and Daiki. A low-stanced punch, aimed at his chin. If it connected, she would send him flying from Kazashi's apartment. A cost great in payment for repairs, but lesser in protection for Kazashi. She'd pay for it later... if they both made it out of this.

As she shifted beneath the covers, trying to discern what was happening, someone else's words flowed through her ears, as though it were covered in a thick seeping tar, a voice she could hardly hear. Perhaps she felt that way because Kaida didn't believe what the girl was saying.[break][break]

Kaida tried to devise what she meant. Was there someone else in the room that the girl was referring to? Someone else she couldn't sense? Was she talking about something else prior to the event in the forest? It must be that. It had to be.[break][break]

The dragoness stirred with a pained grunt, senses coming back to her. Touch in the soft blanket that sat on her, hearing in the brilliant chirps of birds outside, taste in the dryness of her mouth from lack of hydration, and finally, sight in the form of the girl undressing in front of her. Wait, what?[break][break]
Kaida hasn't been set on fire before, but if she had to describe it, perhaps this is what it was like. Her skin, usually so cold and frozen felt like someone had poured boiling liquid gold onto it, nerves shot and ablaze all at once. She froze and tried to move at the same time— she was disrespecting someone's privacy by a remarkable degree, should she try and gouge her eyes out to avoid seeing it? Or maybe just close her eyes or look away to avoid eye contact, what a stupid idea— does she make a run for it, or stay put? What does she do? Why is the girl even doing that in the first place? Why isn't she making a move to do anything?[break][break]
Before the girl can fully reveal herself, Kaida whipped around with possibly the most reddest, tomato-coloured face known to man, and proceeded to try and wrench the window open to jump out of it.[break][break]
Honestly, it seemed like the only viable option to her.
