Sitting in her seat, shoulders tucked and trying to take as little space as possible, Rin had her hands in her lap and her gaze locked forward as she waited with everyone else. When Leonid stepped out onto stage she couldn't help the very first thought that popped into her head:
Fluffy.
Immediately dropping her gaze down towards the base of the stage, to avoid any possibility of accidental eye contact with the Leonid, Rin was nonetheless listening intently. What he had to say was... honestly inspiring. She had been afraid that he might tell them that if they were nervous or not very strong or whatever else that they should just go home right now and give up. Would she have blamed him if he did? Probably not, but everything he said was more on the supportive and encouraging side of things. Even when a question about Quirkless people came up - Rin actually couldn't help but feel some secondhand relief on Freja's behalf there. Asking a question like that? She'd be so tense sh would feel like she'd die, and then getting a positive answer? That had to be the hugest relief ever!
A boy immediately asking about fighting reminded Rin that she wasn't at all any good at that, and she made a mental note to maybe MAYBE ask him if he had any advice later. If she could work up the courage to actually talk to someone, anyways. She probably wouldn't, but she'd try to remember his name anyways. Another question caught her attention then, and Rin felt a sense of dread wash over her - did she count as someone that was getting into heroics for the wrong reason? Leonid's joke almost seemed too serious at first, at least to Rin, and she peeked a glance for just a moment over at the other girl that had asked it - she wasn't about to get in trouble was she? But then it turned out to just be a joke and Leonid actually agreed with her and Rin wasn't sure if she felt better or worse about that. Wanting to be a better person had to be a selfish reason to be a hero but... it couldn't be as bad as being a glory-hound or something, right?
Right?
A low growling sound caught her attention and Rin glanced around in confusion until she spotted the source - subconsciously leaning away in her seat from Shana out of fear that she might somehow get caught in the crossfire if any pouncing did happen. |

Rin went stiff at the footsteps behind her, hands close to her chest and one still tightly clutching her phone as she slowly turned to the side. The whirring sound conjured up all kinds of horrible ideas in her head, but somehow... somehow the reality of what it was was scarier than anything she could have imagined. A mannequin that shouldn't be able to walk, walking way too closely to the way a person would - it wasn't like a animatronic or anything, it was moving 'normally' and that was way more abnormal because of it! The propellor spinning around and around on top of its head was the source of that creepy whirring sound, and when the mannequin turned to face her Rin froze up entirely as a feeling of dread consumed her.
She didn't even really hear anything the man was saying, but Freja's voice cut through her paralyzed thoughts like a hot knife through butter.
The mannequin lunged at her and Rin tipped backwards, twisting to the side and out of the way in a motion that would have been impressive if Rin didn't let out a panicked shriek at the same time. The mannequin circled around to try again, and Rin felt like she couldn't breathe. How was she supposed to fight this thing? She didn't want to, she wasn't good at fighting, she just wanted to help Freja and go home. Could she help Freja and go home?
Rin shifted her stance, feet set wider and a bit more sturdy like she was getting ready to fight as the mannequin turned around to face her again. The two circled each other for a moment, Rin warily trying to stay away from the mannequin and the mannequin just trying to get a good opening to lunge at her again. The man watching crossed his arms over his chest as he moved to block the way out... and then Rin immediately turned around and ran. Not towards the exit, not towards the man to attack him, but towards Freja down on the ground and still tied to her chair. The mannequin seemed somehow surprised for a moment before it gave chase, and Rin hopped right over the downed Freja and started frantically pulling at the ropes.
"We have to run we have to run we have to run" Rin kept repeating over and over in a increasingly panicked tone, just as much to herself as to Freja, and before she could fully untie Freja the mannequin came barreling into her and tackled her down against the hard ground. |

Rin had her phone tightly clutched in one hand as she hurried along, glancing warily around this way and that. Shinjuku was a scary area, and every second that she didn’t spot Freja she was feeling more and more concerned. Had something happened? Or even if not would something happen to her, being in such a dangerous place by herself? She had gotten a text from Freja telling her to go someplace specific but she wasn’t familiar with the area and was trying to be quick without getting herself lost or outright panicking.
When the directions took the brunette to a really shady looking place and down into a dim creepy hallway, she was slowly losing against her own rising anxiety… actually entering a dark room with only Freja - tied to a chair at that! - and a man with a bowl cut she didn’t recognize made her breath catch in her chest in horror.
“Fre… Freja-san!” Rin took a step forward, the man turning to look at her and without even a twitch in his flat expression.
“Ah, there she is, right on time.” The man gave a slight nod towards Rin. “Rin Gotoh.”
Rin brought her hands up in front of her chest, not entirely sure what to do with them as she anxiously glanced between Freja and the man. Should she try to call the police? What was even going on? Was Freja okay? She couldn’t tell from here, but she didn’t see tons of blood or anything at least? And… How did this guy know her name? Was this some guy with a grudge against her brother or something like that? Or a customer she messed up an order for? There was no way someone would capture her roommate over something like that, right?!?
“H…” Rin started but the man cut her off. “How do I know your name? I have been following you and your friend here for a while now, you must recall seeing me around now?”
Oddly there was an almost hopeful note to his voice, but no matter how Rin racked her brain she… couldn’t recall ever seeing this man before in her entire life. Slowly, shakily Rin shook her head. “Sor… Sorry, but I… I must have forgotten…?”
“You too? I was stalking you, for weeks?”
Rin just hesitantly shook her head again, even as she hunched her shoulders in and could feel tears starting to well up in her eyes - she was being stalked and hadn’t realised it?!? That was terrifying! When had he been following them around? Would she have recognized him, or noticed, if she could look people in the eye in general? Was it her fault a stalker had managed to capture Freja?
“I… Sorry!”
The apology was honestly more at Freja but the man seemed to take it as one towards him, but he gave a quick shake of his head as he menacingly approached Rin.
“I don’t need an apology, but you can make up for it by being a guinea pig for me.” |

In a bubble, Rin seems like a relaxed and friendly and perfectly normal girl. She minds her manners, does her share of any work without complaint, is patient and very considerate in regards to making sure her music isn't on too loud. This gives the impression of her being a model student, and while she'd like to live up to that impression she... doesn't. Rin is prone to panicking and is easily flustered, stressed out by and fearful of even the most minor and common of things - an argument in the same room, any form of small scurrying creature, social interaction or a looming deadline. She stutters and trips over her own words trying to over-explain herself quite often and will backpedal at the slightest pressure. She loves rock and metal music because she feels like she can connect to it, and her biggest dream is to tell a waiter they got her order wrong without issue. She hopes that attending a heroics university can help her to become a better person, like her older brother. She tries to ensure her clothes are appropriate for the task, weather and situation at hand - if a dress or skirt might get in the way, she'll go with pants. While she can have a warm, peaceful demeanor at times she is prone to exaggerated expressions of panic, dismay or fear. I don't really have anything like that. I was born on the hottest day in the hottest part of Japan - I think it still holds that record? - but it wasn't a problem for me or my family. I have an older brother and while I didn't mind being the youngest but that didn't last for long, and I actually have two younger siblings now. I really don't like any sort of conflict, and even as a kid I'd roll over a lot and let the other kids hog my toys and other things like that. My parents and especially my older sister tried to defend me a lot when they could or encourage me to stand up for myself, but that always sounded easier than it was. Whenever I tried, I just ended up feeling bad about it. The only time I stopped getting pushed around as much was when everyone was old enough to know better on their own. Before my Quirk showed up, I did most of the normal things kids did. I was even cool for a bit afterwards, being able to make little snowflakes even in the summer. But they always melted really fast if it wasn't cold enough for snow and it wasn't fun to play with that way, and then everyone started noticing how cold I was. Whenever I would try to play tag or other games the other kids always complained about it, didn't want to touch me or me to touch them because of how unpleasantly cold I was. Even my younger siblings had a problem with it, and eventually I just... stopped participating in that kind of stuff. I still tried to do other things, but every now and then I'd accidentally make contact with someone and it'd cause a problem. So I stopped doing that too, and got really good at keeping to myself. A lot of other stuff would happen all the time, nothing major but just... embarrassing stuff that made it awkward to try and do just about anything. I'd spill stuff, forget an assignment, lose a yen under a vending machine, all kinds of inconvenient things like that. And always, always with an audience to make it feel worse! I don't remember when I started listening to the kinds of music I like, it feels like I always have, but it was actally because of different songs and bands that I decided I wanted to try to be a hero. My older sister went to hero school too, she's a counselor now even, and I admire her a lot. The whole saving people thing sounds nice, but honestly I just want to be a bettter person than I am now. I'm pretty sure I only passed the entrance exam because I was able to make some snow-cushions and other things while I was busy having a complete meltdown. I was honestly really surprised I passed, but so was everyone else - they were all really polite and supportive, but I can tell they were sure I was going to fail. One day, I want to be the kind of person that makes people go "As expected of Rin!" whenever I succeed. Rin is able to generate an control snow at will, from snowballs to obscuring flurries to simply moving snow around to act as a cushion. QUIRK DRAWBACKS: Rin has absolutely no control over ice or water, and anything that causes the snow she creates or is trying to control to change into either will immediately remove it from her control. Rin herself is ice-cold to the touch at all times, although this is mostly just uncomfortable for other people. Pushing her Quirk too hard causes her to suffer effects similar to hypothermia such as uncontrollable shivering, drowsiness, clumsiness and short-term memory loss.
