Miroru pushed her hair out of her face as she stepped out of the elevator out onto the main observation deck of the Tokyo tower, some 150 meters above the ground below. The open air of the deck meant a brisk breeze wandering past, driven by the large bodies of water relatively nearby, and tossed her hair back as she knelt and checked the straps on her flashy boots. She'd showed up to this location- notably not where she was supposed to meet Hyousuke- a very good bit early, and in her hero oufit, complete with pleated orange skirt over discrete shorts and gilded accents showing off rainbow lightning bolts at a few places.
She looked down off the edge of the tower, and leaned back carefully, fighting the urge to let herself get concerned. She knew what she was doing. She would be perfectly safe. It was gonna make a super good impression to anyone who saw.
She planted a foot on the railing and leapt off.
---
Thanks to the buildings nearby, it'd be a bit before Hyousuke had a chance to notice anything out of the ordinary. Eventually, though, as the time to meet up came closer, it was entirely likely he'd notice the rainbow wandering through the sky overhead.
Literally.
The closer it came, the more clear it became that it was, in fact, a person- a girl, her hair a bright, foxy orange, with similarly vulpine ears and tail fluttering in the wind as she sprinted her way closer... midair.
Behind her, steady despite the bouncy cadence of her steps onto nothing, streamed that rainbow, following her as her steps grew longer and longer, letting her descend lower with each step until she got close- and dropped straight out of the sky, landing with a HUGE gust of wind (that likely betrayed the nature of her skywalking trickery) in that classic superhero landing pose!
She straightened, clearly a bit out of breath, but cheeks flushed with excitement. "HOLY COW, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN TOKYO FROM THE AIR?!?"

It hurt.
Miroru sat on the edge of her bed looking out into the hallway, watching the candystripers and doctors wander past, some with urgency, others at lazy paces, the clacking of impractical heels and the thuds of practical shoes filling her room alongside the inescapable chatter of distant, muted voices. The fox's arms were wrapped in burn dressings nearly to the elbow, her fingers free and confusingly unbandaged. Her face was a little tense, but mostly? Flat. This wasn't new.
Every time Miroru managed to push her abilities to a new plateau, it had a price. It was like muscles, really- you have to tear muscles to build muscles. And so, she'd pushed herself, and so, she had extended and renewed her scars, increasing the coverage of those furrowed, angry furrows further up her arms.
It hurt- but it was progress, and she accepted the cost of her advancement.
Even though that cost was currently the insipid boredom of being reduced to people watching out of the hospital room she occupied for the moment.
I can pay no price too great for justice.

Miroru shifted to help Thea find a proper place against her, using her own free arm to drape across Thea's belly, shifting her sleeve to cover her entire arm in case Thea wanted to relax her pose. "Yeah, of course I would. I know you don't think about your appearance much, but that doesn't make it not lovely anyhow," Miroru reassured.
"I get it. No trigger, no safety, just a lit match, a marker and whiteout in a world of paper people. It's not that I don't get what how much you hold yourself accountable to protect everyone around from the worst you could do, especially on accident, but." Miroru thinks for a few moments, then gently tightens her arm to pull Thea against herself, leaning her face down to rest against Thea's hair for a moment.
"I think it's even more important you know you're not alone, because of that. Left isolated, you'd... want those connections. Resent not having them, or maybe reach for them without meaning to. But if you at least don't have to grope blindly for connections or desperately avoid them despite yourself... it might get easier."
A moment of quiet. "And if not, I still like this. And I'm happy we're sharing it."
Her low tone left Miroru nuzzling closer. Was her lips brushing Thea's scalp deliberate? Hard to tell. "I might regret some things that happen because of it. In fact, I'm sure we both will at some point. But regretting this, on its own, in its entirety?"
A slow shake of her head. "I will not regret you."

Miroru heard the gleeful roar and pivoted, her sudden stop leaving her skidding through the rain-choked streets. She narrowed her eyes and considered the terrain. The grassy lawn around the office, water-logged and soaked; the power lines draped across poles in between the buildings... she came up with a plan on the spot and sprinted back towards the office.
For those inside, terrified by the bashing and howls, the world outside went abruptly dark, leaving the office a little island of light in a world devoid of it.
"You really ought to brush up on your folklore." Miroru called out boldly as she loudly splashed through the lawn. "Proclaiming yourself the big bad wolf and hammering on a brick building?" The splashing stopped as she took cover behind one of the power poles. "Did you forget what happens to the wolf at the end of that encounter?"
By swamping the Sinner in darkness, she aimed to force them to use her voice to aim those brutal blows- and placed it behind a power pole. Alone and out of energy stores, Miroru didn't have the sheer power to knock the power pole down and give her access to the sheer output of a downed power line- but HE did, and Miroru had three things prepared in case he did as she expected.
First, she was ready on a hair trigger leap back to safety the moment he took her bait, to avoid getting nailed by his attacks.
Second, she was pre-prepared to corrall the electricity from a successfully downed line into a circular field around the Sinner, turning the water around him into a giant stun gun.
And the last thing she had prepared? The punchline.
"The pigs cook him for dinner."
This boi has D- awareness, so it seems pretty likely he'd forget there was a power line over there or never registered it at all. He's also got garbo dexterity, so it seems like his best bet is to flail in her direction, which is exactly what she wants, aiming to use her A- quirk to turn the diffused output of the power line into enough of a shock to stun the red Sinner unconscious or into surrender!

Miroru resisted the urge to giggle at the flustered stammering as the two flumped back onto the blanket, letting Thea squirm free when she tried. She wasn't trapping her, after all. She moved to lean, too, without getting up, peering through her bangs at Thea. Her ears flopped off-kilter as well, with gravity pulling them towards the ground. Her cheeks took on a softer blush, and she considered a moment, before admitting- "... no, I can't blame you, I don't think. I, um... probably would have done the same."
Miroru listened to her warning, but shook her head. "Thea, you have... all sorts of memories, right? Take a look at them. How often do the thoughts you have access to accidentally hurt others? I'd bet... it's all the time. There's so many ways to hurt someone without meaning to. You hold yourself to a brutal standard because... I think... your accidents can hurt a whole lot more than feelings. But in the end... being close to everyone is dangerous. I'm just..." It took a moment to consider the answer. "... treating you how I'd want to be treated."
She let the response hang a moment. "You know what I could do if I got angry enough. You're not running from me, even though I could just... delete anyone I wanted to on a sunny day. But you know I wouldn't just blast you off the face of the planet without some absurdly good reason, the same as I know you wouldn't mess with my head unless you had some absurdly good reason."
Another moment passed. "So... let's make it fair? We'll trust each other not to needlessly delete the other's existence, and neither of us has to be as isolated as we think we do.
Deal?" Miroru lifted her arm, offering Thea a place under it if she wanted. It wasn't part of the deal, though, and there wasn't any impression that declining the contact would damage the deal presented.

"Oh, so what," Miroru teased back gently, "It's only okay to ambush people with that when it's your idea?" Hearing Thea express concern and worry, though, the humor faded away, and Miroru nodded soberly, clearly taking Thea's response for what it was. "... I didn't think about that. I'd figured... I trust you not to hurt me, and thought it'd just be a good way to make sure you didn't have to wonder about my sincerity. I didn't at all mean to worry you. I'll offer, instead, going forward. Promise. I'm sorry."
Miroru looked back towards the sky and nodded slowly. "Well. If that IS how it turns out. Then all the more reason I need to shine like a star. If they've used their heroic standing to insulate them from consequences... then if nothing else works, I'll use that same insulation to be the one to deal out what they've got coming. Leave them reeling in the realization that nobody's going to avenge them. That they'll just have to live with whatever consequence they've earned."
The redhead ended up blinking as Thea talked about taking her to the Carribean, her face lighting up like a rocket when Thea spoke of filling in her tan lines.
As Thea crammed the rest of her bento into her mouth, Miroru took her revenge, just as the last bite was finished off, leaning over and wrapping her arms around Thea before flopping backwards, keeping her supported so she didn't feel the reflex to support herself. "My tan lines, huh~? And just howwww do you know I have tan lines~? I thought you were rifling through my loneliness and family issues, not my last swimsuit fitting~" The idea was intensely embarrassing- but mitigated by the idea that Thea might have gone fishing for the memories. Either she had, and that meant Thea thought she was at least a little attractive- or she hadn't, and it was a very slick counter-feint!
Normally, it'd be a risky move to initiate contact with someone like that- but she'd felt an echo in Thea. That gulf, that echo of distance forcing separation. Miroru wasn't the only isolated one at this picnic. And while she couldn't help Thea with all the things that made her feel so utterly alone... She could be someone that knew about her quirk and still trusted Thea enough to be physically close. How Thea chose to take it was up to her, as was how often she let herself indulge in that luxury- but Miroru had quickly gathered that Thea, due to everything, was very much a "show, don't tell" sort of girl.
So she showed Thea she trusted her and wanted to be there for her instead of saying it out loud.

A skills assessment! The perfect opportunity for Miroru's anxiety to run absolutely wild.
She was familiar with Dauntless at this point. She enjoyed his classes, especially the practical aspects of finding ways to bring criminals to ground and remove them as a threat without being overly brutal or exposing the city to further harm by being reluctant to bring to bear the force necessary to resolve a dangerous situation.
But this was different! This time he wanted to see her stuff in action! To go toe to toe with a professional hero! It was an awesome opportunity! It was exciting! It was... ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING.
What if she messed up? What if she embarrassed herself?! What if she lost Dauntless's faith in her?! Was she overestimating herself to believe he had any to begin with?!
W H A T I F ran through her mind over and over. But in the end, there was still only one thing to be done.
Show up.
So she showed up, heading to meet Dauntless at Ground Gamma, redoing the bandages holding her burn dressings against her forearms and covering her knuckles for the fourth time today as she did.
Maybe he wouldn't notice how nervous she was.

"Ironclad and Oberon. Then..." Miroru took a breath, and flashed a bright smile, a tiny flex of her quirk creating a snow of rainbow sparkles around her. "-you can call me Prism! Let's do our best!"
Using her hero name helped push Miroru into the right mindset to perform. She ran fast- though goodness, Oberon was fast as the dickens with his quirk!- and pushed into the building, pausing to map the clear floor pathways by feeling for gaps in the ambient infrared, or spots with absolutely way too much (which indicated active fire). A moment of focus, and she lit up the floors with arrows leading the fastest path to the door where she was, and moved into the building, feeling her wrists start to tingle from the gentle use of her Quirk.
She knew where a lot of the people were at, but the truth was, they could probably find their own way out. She tried every door leading to one of the civilians, shouldering them open if she had to, yelling into each apartment with survivors, "Hurry! Follow the arrows to the office if you can! I'll be back to help you if you can't make it on your own!"
Her priority was to get upstairs to the fire as quickly as possible so she could see who needed her help there. In short order, she'd cleared and marked escape routes for everyone she could find on the way up and given brief instructions before moving on, finding the tree smashed down onto an electric stove which had, apparently, been cooking the pan of eggs crashed to the ground- the heating elements had survived, and set the branches ablaze, along with the rest of the kitchen!
Taking a deep breath and huffing it out, Miroru focused and raised her hands, fingers outstretched- and curled them in to help her direct her quirk. Fire was just tons of infrared heat released by superhot particulate, and that was something she could collect- so she did, swirling it all together into a tight shimmering ball, leaving the burning embers to drown in the rain leaking down through the hole in the roof.
Taking the energy of the raging flames she'd smothered, Miroru pushed it outside and spun it into a tight, flat disk of intense heat- and slid it down at an angle into the tree trunk halfway towards the ground. It took all the energy she'd gathered, but it vaporized a thin sliver of the tree, enough to unsettle it and send the lower half flopping to the ground with a thud, and the leafier top half following as the stump sticking out of the house followed gravity and descended. Then, a quick yank of the cord to unplug the bashed-in stove, and she headed back down into the house to the citizens that hadn't moved to leave the apartment complex.
One was in a wheelchair and needed active aid, which she gave after helping them into a sweater and a raincoat. Another was deaf and needed shown what was going on to understand they needed to get outside.
Once she had everyone from inside safely accounted for in the office, Miroru spoke to the civilians. "I need you all to stay here," She said, taking the wheelchair and heading out into the storm. "The tree's taken care of, and so is the fire, but the wind's hurling things around outside. The office only has windows right here at the back," she said, as she finished moving to push a bookshelf over in front of the window, and started to move the office desk in front of it to brace it as she continued. "But with it blocked, you should be pretty much safe here, if a bit cramped. Just hang tight, and I'll direct emergency services here to evacuate you all as soon as possible!"

"Ooooh. I like flan a lot. Especially when it's done with that caramel topping? Or... bottoming? I think it's actually in the bottom of the pan when it's cooking..?" Miroru tried to remember, but it'd been a while, and she couldn't quite recall. "Well, we'll just have to be big time heroes and make that good money so you can show me around the classiest of places."
Miroru tuned back in after her space cadet moment, and squeaked as one of her meatballs disappeared. "Heyyyy!" She retaliated by snatching a wedge of tempura sweet potato off Thea's box and nomming it immediately. "Feef," she mumbled through a full mouth.
"Those are good rules. I think I have a lot of rules," Miroru murmured, though she didn't go into detail right then. "So yeah, I guess they are my thing."
She snorted a touch at the bit about leading her astray. "What, to some parties? That's not astray. That's a detour to a fun evening."
That question, though, held her focus. She glanced over at Thea as she asked, and then considered her own answer. When Thea "threatened" her, Miroru hesitated a moment, then concocted her own response by reaching out
and
making contact
She'd played it out in her head. How easy it'd be to steal from a downed power line and do what her father, her brothers, did. But not to some would-be thief or a robber. To the shit heroes making the world a worse place. To the ones preying on the downtrodden to improve their reputation, of all things. To the ones breaking backs when a simple knockout would have done just fine. How it'd feel to direct lighting into liars. To drop the sun on brutalizers. To turn some fraction of the hell these bastards dealt out back on them. It was less than they deserved.
Her hand pulled back, and she looked to the sky quietly. "It's not fair that nobody holds them accountable. They get praised for their effectiveness. Held up as gold standards."
A long quiet moment. "They're fucking monsters. So yeah. I've thought about it. But if I do it that way, then I just give everyone an excuse to throw out my truth as the ramblings of a criminal.
Because criminals can't possibly have anything to offer society, right?"

"Freudian slip, my ass. I just caught myself before feeding the biggest lech I know an easy shot," Miroru protested, harrumphing to herself.
She did have to admit, the Rube Goldberg series of descending bounces depositing him on his feet was impressive. She had to admit it- but not out loud. Definitely not out loud.
His response, though, took her entirely by surprise. Her eyes widened and she stared for a second, then got redfaced and upset. Extremely upset, actually. She was angry- furious, even- but... were those tears fighting at the corners of her eyes?
"FUCK you, Sinclaire. What kind of asshole do you have to be to deride someone's appearance over something they can't do anything about?! Nobody asked you to rate my appearance. I came because we're supposed to be training together. I didn't freeze you out of bed, I didn't even do anything besides ask what you do so I could help YOU train. So what's your fucking problem?!"
It was an unreasonable reaction. He'd clearly hit something under the surface, and hit it hard. She was just short of screaming at him. She wasn't annoyed. She was hurt.

"SEBASTIAN!"
Miroru shouted at the boy as she stalked into the field, winding a set of bandages down from halfway up her arms, hiding the burn dressing hiding there and setting the wrappings properly around her knuckles. "You DO remember that we were assigned to train together, right? Not SLEEP T..." Miroru cut herself off as her cheeks flared. "NOT NAP," she corrected hastily. "So get up and get ready!"
She stormed into his area, prepared to render him frigid and unable to snooze if necessary, but trying her best to behave and engage him without doing so. "What's your style of combat and capture, anyhow? These trampolines are great for naps and bruising people's shins, but what exactly do you do for engaging enemies and subduing them for capture?"
For that matter, how the hell had he passed the entrance exam?! She didn't ask that question out loud, but man.

"Oooh. I'll have to check them out. What do you want me to bring you from there?" Miroru asked as she diligently started to use her own chopsticks to divide the penalty box between the two of them so nobody had to suffer overmuch. "Hey, hey, I didn't say that's my order. I just said that veggies CAN be tasty if someone makes'em right. Just, there's vegetarians cuz that's culture and all their food is baller anyway, and then there's vegetarians who think they're better than you, and their food tends to suck. The former has several thousand years of culinary innovation advantages. Indian food, for instance? Amazing, meat or not."
The comment to get some class made Miroru burst into a snorting giggle. "I'm a fistfighting, egg-stealing, chicken-nomming scoundrel. I'm pretty sure class runs off me like water off a duck's back end." She chuckled again, then looked up at the sky. "I'd like to travel sometime. Maybe I'll make enough heroing to do a little traveling."
The bug talk made Miroru focus up and tilt her head quizzically, the fluffy ears drooping to the side. "They do?" She thinks about that a bit. "... not so different from people, though, is it. Just- the details are different. None the wiser... that feels like it describes lots... of..."
Miroru trailed off, staring at empty space, abruptly looking puzzled, lifting her hand to apparently touch... nothing. "... again?" Her attention drifted at that rude AF rubbing, and rolled her eyes, murmuring, "As expected of the Thea-cracy~ are there any rules you don't hate enough to break out of spite?"

"Listen, I don't know, for all I know, you could get slapped with the last hours of your meal's life if you pick up a cheeseburger," Miroru quipped. "I try to be considerate is all. Besides, I figure if I tease a little bit about things, you won't ever have room to wonder if the only reason we still hang out is that I forgot something. So. How about I let you poke holes in my solitary social confinement strategy- and you let me poke a little fun back~" Miroru was proving resilient to a lot of the gruffness and innate barbs- if one had to guess, she had a much higher tolerance for rudeness than she did actual malice.
"Well excuuuuuse me for only having access to the contents of one mind~" Miroru teased back quietly as her idea of "a good spot" was dismissed. "I shall put my trust in the Thea-cracy. Lead on!" The fox did, in fact, follow.
Miroru got to work setting out the blanket, the drinks, and the bentos, and nodded at the proposal. "That works for me. Honestly, it's not even that bad. Tempura veggies are pretty stellar, even if they'd be better with some seafood inside. Vegetarian dishes can hit pretty hard when they're focused on taste and not the presentation of being healthy. Like, you ever been to Poblano? Their burritos absolutely SLAP even if it's just fajita veggies and guacamole."

Miroru's knock was polite but insistent, the sort of rapping that communicated quite clearly that whoever was outside knew very well that their quarry was within, and had no intention of taking no for an answer- and all the same presented it in a polite manner. For propriety.
"Thea? I know this is short notice, but I picked up a couple bentos- I've got one that's vegetarian, just in case. I can eat that one if it's not your speed, but I'm gonna find someplace shady on the grounds and eat lunch, and I figured you might have fun coming with!" She chirped through the door. "I've got a comfy blanket to sit on, and a couple drinks, too, so all I need now is a friend! You're not too busy for friendship, now, are you~?" Everyone else seemed so energetic! Miroru was nearly so distanced from that oddly exuberant attitude both displayed that it was almost entirely alien to her. She understood it, mind, but couldn't empathize with that much... confidence? Nervous energy? She wasn't sure, but she had to fight her way out of her shell when she got nervous.
Clearly not a problem these two shared.
"You can- holy crap, that's amazing. Powerful defense -and- an extremely potent capture weapon. Okay, I see why you want on the front lines. That makes sense, uh... I didn't catch your name. I'm Miroru, if you need to yell for me."
It was hard not to get snarky when Johanna's first question was to ask if Farrin could do all the cool things Miroru did! What was up with that?! It didn't exactly sour her mood, but it made her feel a bit more like chopped liver than normal. Thankfully, he had a very different quirk- one that reminded her of that gray porcupine gal Dusk with the catch phrase, "Order Activate!"- that suited him to scouting and general utility.
"Okay, that's excellent. So we've got someone dedicated to offense, someone for rescue, and our foreign friend has us both covered. That sounds solid. I'll make sure to mark houses with the number of people I can sense inside, and add warning icons for imminent dangers if I can't handle them myself, okay?"
The exam started and the three rushed into action, Farrin unsurprisingly in the lead. Miroru squealed as the wind and rain blasted her, her fox ears folding down against her head as her tail soaked through and lost every ounce of fluffiness immediately, leaving her extremely irritated. The water cooled the surrounding area as well, and they were shielded from the sun, which meant she couldn't do much to recover the heat she was losing to the water soaking her to the skin.
She fought past the discomfort and shifted her focus, using the cooling effect of the rain as an aid to locate the body-temp forms nearby.
The pit was her first concern, and she focused there, feeling for the infrared warmth shed by anyone in their car still, or possibly even in the water itself and out of sight. "THE PIT! There's people still in those cars!" She focused briefly, and two brilliant numbers appeared in the air over the pit, separated by a squiggle representing water- a quick and simple communication of exactly how many bodies Miroru could sense above, and below, the water line!
"I'll handle the apartment building with the tree! I'll stop the fire and get everyone out- I'll leave the pit and the riot to you guys for now! If someone finishes faster than the others, help whoever's struggling worst!"
She didn't waste any more time, trusting the other two to move to where they could do the most good, exactly as she herself did, rushing towards the smoke-smeared building. Another scan here, checking for how many people she could find- but anyone in the fire area would be more or less invisible. Still, the ones outside the flame zone were safer- probably- so Miroru started by feeling for the fire and working her way inside to get eyes on the threat! She couldn't do too much about whatever had ignited, but she could control the fire itself. All that flame was, was infrared radiation, and it was easy enough to contain. It'd be tricky to do without sight on the objects, so she did her best to hurry to the fire, already planning to use her Quirk to stop the flames and reduce the burning materials to smoky charcoal briquettes in the process- extremely dangerous to touch, but with no hazards besides the smoke otherwise... presuming nothing crazy had caught fire!
But first, she had to get to the burning area!
