IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“Hi, Jun!”
Ana greeted Jun with a smile of her own. It didn’t possess the normal uncanny valley look to it that her expression typically did when interacting with people. She looked genuinely pleased to see her fellow sophomore. Which might have been difficult to reconcile with the words that came out of Ana’s mouth next.
“You look like a pack mule! It’d be a good profession for you if this Hero thing doesn’t work out!”
Ana was really putting the support in Support student.
“I’ve only been here for a few minutes though!”
She gripped the stack of pictures a little tighter then pulled them to her chest as if hiding the images from being viewed. Ana wanted to display the pictures, but Gen was wary of people finding out about them. He said it was for her own good and maybe he was right, but given Jun had been the one Ana was telling about her “experiments” with him in the first place and the fact Gen had been and would be in their room again…
She could just say the pictures were experiments too!
And in a way, they were. Dating Gen was an experiment. It was filled with a lot of firsts and a lot of research. Ana’s search history on her computer would have been questionable if she didn’t know what incognito mode was. The amount searches on hand holding alone only after Jun told her it was the most lewd thing they could do was enough to raise a few eyebrows.
Ana still liked hand holding though.
“Oh! Make sure you close the door behind you!”
It was easier to justify putting up pictures of Gen if no one else could see them. Plus there were other things Ana didn’t have to hide if it was just her and Jun. Ana could finally be comfortable. At least for a little while.

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
As Freja and Leonid underwent introductions and explanations, Ana was silent. Absolutely and utterly silent. Still too. So still she did not blink even once nor move her eyes after giving a once over to Freja and moving on to do the same to the educator before locking dead center upon his face. Only the subtle rise and fall of her chest from breathing gave away that she was human. Or at least something human like doing a good job mimicking breathing. Almost as good as Leonid did at smiling.
When he finished his mini-speech, Ana’s eyes shifted back to Freja. Her head tilted to the side for just a moment or two before righting itself as if the smile that bloomed ever further across her lips as if anchoring her back to a level point. Her strange behavior had nothing on the words she unleashed in response to the request made though.
“How unique and remarkable for a human’s baseline potential to overcome comparatively genetic uselessness!”
She clapped her hands together in delight that was likely not shared by the subject in question. How could she not? Even the statement itself was novel as it straddled the thin line between being an oxymoron.
“It’s certainly a fascinating project to undertake! A case study into whether or not ingenuity and skill can overcome the ever widening gap between the Quirkless and Quirked! The results of which might even begin to form a foundation for how to handle or prevent the possibility of Quirk Singularity in the future! Though that’s purely a leap in conjecture based on hypotheticals! Such as scaling back on Quirk reliance now to prevent the need for rapid evolution to survive the Quirks of others!”
Blunt though she was and obviously prone to trips down scientific rabbit holes, Ana was clearly passionate and willing. Academic credit on the line or not. Her earlier anxiety over location was even sufficiently suffocated beneath her enthusiasm over the potential project for the time being. Perhaps more importantly than anything else, however, Ana was capable of what Leonid was asking of her. If Freja could both keep up with the strain of school as well as the testing of gear and not wither beneath Ana's strong personality in the meantime.
“I’ll do it!”

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Ana hummed along to softly playing classical music emanating from a vinyl record player in the corner of her laboratory as she double checked the supplies she needed for her first round of research for the new school year. Delicate fingers danced across a stack of syringes to document each one in Ana’s ongoing mental list. Excitement hastened the process. The only thing more thrilling to her than science was…
Ana smiled. Genuinely. Her ears twitched beneath their confines, but remained pinned and concealed. While they didn’t pop out of hiding, Ana almost jumped herself at the abrupt sound of the door being opened. There had been no knock to alert Ana to the arrival of her newest guinea pig. She was alone and then she wasn’t. While the entrance was on the startling side thanks to a particularly fond memory distracting her, it was not unexpected. Ana had arranged for people to meet with her for a research study after all. The cost of which was covered by school funds. Ana might have said she was paying, but none of it came out of her pocket.
“Hi, Shana! I'm Ana! Ana Borovsky!”
Ana’s smile stretched into her strange manic grin that she adorned when interacting with the outside world. Odder still were the bright eyes trained intensely upon the solitary subject. The weight of Ana’s scrutiny from a thorough visual analysis was almost palpable. If that wasn’t enough, Ana slipped into her habit of listing aloud the most obvious traits of someone she was studying for her projects.
“Feline mutation! Breed of tiger… unknown classification! Animals aren’t my specialty!” It was a little ironic considering her own mutation. “I’ll need to cross-reference zoology materials! Fascinating!” She clapped her hands together.
“But not exactly unique! Hopefully you aren’t all brawn and claw and can show me something special! Unlikely, but implausible doesn’t mean impossible!”

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
The break in between freshmen and sophomore year had been more difficult than Ana had initially anticipated. She had been homesick to be sure. Being away from Mama, Papa, Marina, and Dmitri for months on end for the first time quite literally ever strained Ana’s emotional state. No one ever realized it though. They never got past the unnerving smile to see deeper. Well, a couple did. Gen and Jun, but Ana had divulged nothing of import about her family or her past. Still, it was because of them, especially him* that Ana had struggled while away from Japan and back in Alaska.
She missed Gen.
But they were both back on campus now. She could see Gen whenever she wanted! Well. Sort of. They still had classes in different departments as well as other obligations and Gen still insisted on keeping their relationship a secret. He said he didn’t want people targeting her because he was… himself. An understandable concern given Gen’s attitude to anyone besides her. But there was a bud of anxiety in her chest that threatened to bloom under the right circumstances.
What if he was keeping their relationship a secret because he did actually want to date her?
The thought flashed across her mind at regular intervals as she made her way to the designated meeting location during their shared lunch break. It was someplace quiet. Isolated. Secret. Each time the thought occurred, Ana’s grin grew wider. So did her eyes, unblinking even against the bright midday sun between buildings.
She arrived at an empty classroom in a wing of the general studies building currently closed for minor renovations after a Hero studies scuffle got out of hand and made its way across campus during summer classes for those who opted in or were required to take them. Ana had phased in through the side of the structure with her Quirk after making sure no one was looking. It seemed like she had arrived before Gen, but there was never really any telling with him given All For One was at his disposal.

Character Name: Ana Borovsky Skillset: Ana is a genius with S+ in her manufacturing skill which covers a broad spectrum. However, Ana also has sub-specialties such as Quirk research and medical. Given her Quirk is light based, she likes to utilize this in many of her designs. The more complicated or unique a project, the more interested she will be in doing it. However, Ana will often require people to sign NDAs for non-basic items to protect proprietary information from a narrative standpoint. Population: Primarily people on the UA and Hero side of things. However, Ana will provide gear for Vigilantes and Villains if the gear is is non-harmful and they don't appear to be inherently bad people. Meaning don't tell her you're a Villain. Location: Ana has a private lab in the Support Department at UA. However, she has freelancing listings online to participate in R&D studies for free tech and can meet people anywhere to discuss items and figure out testing locations from there if they aren't allowed access narratively on the UA campus. Preferred Contact: DM on discord or ping me in Plot Circle or General 2 (Samyah). Other: :)

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Ana felt out of place. She was in a lab room, yes, but it wasn’t her lab room. The same laboratory she had sequestered herself in every day during freshman year. It wouldn’t matter so much to most people. Each of the non-specialized work spaces were given the same furniture laid out in the exact same way and standard supplies. They felt identical until students or teachers modified them for their own use though each had been reset at the end of the previous year. There hadn’t been enough time in the few days that had elapsed post-orientations for Ana to arrange her favored lab yet to her liking and while it still looked exactly the same as the one she waited in now, Ana knew it was wrong because it mattered to her. She was far from most people.
And yet she still waited there in spite of her discomfort.
That was what you did when one of the educators at UA singled you out for your services — at least if you wanted to stay at UA. Which Ana did. Partly because Mama insisted and partly because it was one of the best institutions for Ana to pursue the sciences. Especially Quirk research given Akihiro Koizumi was the Head of Quirkology in the Department of Support. There were few better to learn from in that regard.
It wasn’t Professor Koizumi that had summoned Ana though. Leonid, a teacher from the Hero side of UA University had reached out. Details were limited. He had simply asked her to meet with him, but few met with Ana unless they wanted something made or something/someone dissected. Ana pondered which was the case as she paced across the lab, her anxiety over the wrongness kept from a frenzy by curiosity. Though few would likely ever know the former existed behind the seemingly perpetual smile and odd wide eyes that she greeted the pair with as they opened the door and crossed the threshold because few would ever want to push past the facade given her personality. Mama had always said the best thing to do with feelings that got in the way was to bury them down deep until they were silenced then choose how to feel. Ana did her best whenever she could for Mama. Otherwise…
“Hi!” :)

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Ana had been on time. Ana was always on time. Being late made the inside of her head crawl with unpleasant memories of the first and last time she had been late. Mama had been very displeased. But now Ana was a better person for it! In fact, she was the best person the Support Department had to offer! :)
At least if you asked her. Which was the only opinion that mattered. Well. The professor’s opinion also mattered if she wanted to stay at UA and since that was what Mama wanted, then Ana wanted it too. Fortunately, Ana loved science and was actually at least among the best the tech-centric branch of the university had to offer. She had proved that by surviving her first year with a similar speech and expectations given at the start. Which was why Ana had been given the task of following up after the professor.
Ana stepped up to the podium wearing the school’s standard issued uniform with a short lab coat over top and a wide grin across her face. She stared unblinking into the crowd with unnaturally wide eyes. When she began to speak, her voice thick with a Russian accent came out in an upbeat tone kept so uniform and even that it was still monotone. The message was not so flat though.
“I am Ana Borovsky! A sophomore! I’ve been told I will have to help new students so I will! If you are stupid, however, I will pass you off to the far less talented and more slow thinking among my so-called-peers and your progress will likely suffer as a result! I won’t waste my time with idiots and I will be the first to suggest to Professor Koizumi that they be moved over to one of the other courses where using your brain is optional, and occasionally seemingly discouraged, or to be expelled!”
She paused to let her words sink in, her grin growing wider in the meantime before resuming. “The floor is now open for questions and we will be splitting up into assigned tour groups after the Q&A!” Now that she had added to the oh-so-welcoming vibe of the orientation, she stepped back to free up the podium for anyone else that wanted say something or to field questions (or understandable concerns) from the new students.

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
“Children often play dress-up though I suppose no one would willingly wear these clothes! Especially when they already look so drab!”
The levity of what seemed to be intended as a quip was undercut by the contents of her statement and the intensity of her continued stare. Every movement on display was analyzed and deconstructed in a matter of seconds. Whether interpretation was correct or not was a different story. Unparalleled genius though she was, Ana’s brain was unique not only in the scope of her intellect when it came to science, but with how she understood, or didn’t understand, less technical things. Like social interactions. What Ana did know was that the girl before her hadn’t lashed out by her own metrics or understanding, cried, nor made a run for it. That was her cue to continue on as she was — rudely.
“You are correct though! I shouldn’t have assumed you to be exceptional enough to be a child that garnered early entrance given how unexceptional you do seem to be! Which means your lacking size is less a pre- or early post-pubescent indicator and more a result of Quirk altered anatomy!”
Ana’s eyes flickered to the wings framing the student’s form. “Diminutive stature! Smaller bones! Likely hollow to enable flight with wings!” Ana ran through her observations of logical jumps aloud almost as if she was just talking to herself and the young woman across from her wasn’t there in spite of how hard she was staring. Studying Quirks was one of the primary reasons she had been sent to UA after all. She grinned wider then abruptly clapped her hands together.
“How delightfully mundane a Quirk! At least the wings aren’t just for show! Unless you’re destined to end up like Icarus! But then what a show that would be if that were the case! Back to things more important than your beginning and end though! You don’t look like anyone I’ve seen in the Support Department before! So why are you here using our things without the supervision that would imply consent or permission for your presence?”

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
New year, new-
Wait. No. New year, same roommate. Even the administrative faculty seemed to think it best to keep Ana in the same dorm with Jun rather than risk putting the strange girl with someone that might not be able to weather her personality for more than a day or two. Most people didn’t even last minutes around Ana without snapping on her, crying, or just simply walking away to preserve their sanity.
What did that say about Gen and Jun then?
Who knew! :)
Ana had arrived first. Well. Technically Ana’s belongings had arrived first, having been shipped ahead of her given she had to travel internationally to come to school. Spending the short break away from Gen had been difficult given how attached she had become to him, but she had gotten to spend time with Mama, Papa, Marina, and Dmitri! :)
But back to the point at hand, Ana had arrived before Jun in their shared room. Ana kept the door closed because the corridor beyond the threshold bustled with activity from all of the other students getting their own dorms set up. She busied herself with unpacking. The most important of all of Ana’s belongings was ceremoniously unwrapped from many layers of protective padding.
Bear.
Who wasn’t a bear at all, but a well-worn stuffed penguin. Ana set him on the desk under her lifted loft bed so he could watch the proceedings unfold. “Sorry you had to be packed up, Bear.” She gave him a head pat before digging the next object in terms of importance — a stack of pictures featuring her and Gen.

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Work smarter, not harder.
While many of UA’s students threw away such simple logic in favor of one that decreed there was no progress without some sort of suffering, Ana Borovsky was not among them. Efficiency inherently expedited and aided progress. Granted, not everyone was as smart as she was so achieving true efficiency was unlikely for them by comparison — but at least they could probably carry a stack of books without their arms trembling.
The task at hand that prompted the mantra was simple in theory. She needed to transport tomes borrowed from a teacher back to her private workspace on the floor below. Her body just didn’t want to cooperate without undue strain. So Ana did what anyone else in the modern world would do.
She used her Quirk.
Only after ducking into the privacy of an unoccupied room of course. Ana wasn’t about to flaunt her Quirk in the full view of a public space. Mama would disapprove. Immensely. She had always said there was a time and a place to do so and that one day, Ana would know what that time and place was. Ana never understood what Mama had meant by that last part, but she almost always listened to Mama! :)
So once her solitude was confirmed, Ana gathered what strength she did have and jumped before activating her Quirk just as momentum shifted away from upward and back toward the ground. It made traversing down significantly easier than relying on her own force as she phased through floor-turned-ceiling of the level below.
The room was illuminated in a sudden flash of multicolored light by Ana’s appearance a few feet behind a solitary figure looming, if one could loom when they were the size of a child, over a workbench. The light disappeared as quickly as it had arrived by virtue of Ana immediately shutting her Quirk off before impacting the tiled floor with no more impact than if she had only jumped an inch off the ground instead of falling a full story through space. Her arms were far more worse off than her legs so she unloaded her burden on a nearby table as curiosity got the better of her sense of urgency. It often did.
“What are you doing here? Children aren’t allowed in the labs!”
Her voice was upbeat but oddly monotone and thick with a Russian accent when she spoke. Should the alleged child turn around, the figure that addressed it was adorned in the school’s uniform, a short lab coat, and an eerie smile that stretched wide across her face. Odd bright eyes stared down at the winged girl, flickering only to the side for a moment to the stuffed cat that did nothing to dissuade Ana from thinking she was indeed a child.

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
The support labs at UA University were often as chaotic as the training fields of which the Hero Department students made use. The difference was that the support labs were inherently a form of controlled chaos. More variables were known well in advance, more safety measures were in place, and more brain cells were at work — or so one Ana Borovsky liked to say. Often directly in the face of Hero students while smiling ear to ear.
It’s not like they could do anything about her bluntness. It wasn’t high school where you could just beat up the people that annoyed you. Not that anyone could lay a finger on Ana against her will given her Quirk. Besides, Ana was right, not polite. Polite got in the way of being one of the most skilled and talented creators UA had to offer and that’s what people were looking for when they sought her out deep in the labyrinth of labs — unless they were looking for Kei.
Today that meant finding her set up at a workbench in a private space. She was garbed in the school’s atrocious required uniform, though Ana kept hers covered with a lab coat that fell to where the ends of her thigh high stockings rose. The room that surrounded her and served as her favored habitat was filled with the sound of classical music and metallic tinkering in addition to the expected materials and the various supplies a Support student might have on hand or need at any given time.
Most days actually meant finding her there in the exact same way. Ana was secretive about her work, but predictable in which room she posted up in and when. It was routine at this point which made it easy to ask any of the other Support students for directions to find her. They were used to it given it was Ana’s second year at the college.

Well-educated, but not well-mannered. Ana is a prime example of someone being too smart for their own good and quite often gets in trouble just for fun. She requires extreme amounts of stimulus to keep her from getting into or causing mischief — or a good laser pointer. Her personality swings between enigma and anathema depending on who is asked and whether or not she's bothered to maintain a mask in the moment to hide her true self. Ana likes being around people and engaging with them, but not connecting. Her IQ presents as higher than her EQ. On her worst days, she comes across as rude or even hostile. On her best days, she is someone who talks a lot without ever saying anything of substance about herself. When pressed to do so, the results tend to be less than favorable or illuminating. Odd behavior extends beyond the core of Ana's personality, and the fact she is occasionally caught talking or singing to herself, to the hobbies she maintains. The most obvious being her fascination with science and technology. While she loves to tinker with the latter, especially to take it apart, she herself often prefers less digital influence in her personal life. She favors notebooks over note apps, vinyl over music streaming, and even card games over video games though she has been known to throw down quite well in the latter just to make people salty. Though perhaps a little more stylish with her personal aesthetic choices. Her mutation adds to her deviation from normalcy with odd eyes, an intricate network of small light panels running up and down her body to absorb light for her Quirk, as well as a tail she often hides and a matching pair of cat ears kept pinned down most of the time so that they are hidden beneath her thick but short bobbed hair that tufts out around them. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]H I S T O R Y The Borovsky family history as recorded reads like the most bland story ever. Ana's father had a well paying job as a bank manager. Her mother was a homemaker who spent all of her energy taking care of Ana and her siblings. A rather time consuming task considering there are three of them in total and they were all home schooled in an effort to preserve their core beliefs and culture from when the family immigrated from Russia to Alaska several generations back. At least until Ana was sent off to college in Japan. It wasn't frustration from Ana's difficult personality that drove her parents to such a decision. Ana attending UA's unparalleled support program was simply the best thing for her prodigious mind and her future. Plans were laid, money was paid, grades were made, and prayers... prayed. Ana passed with little to no outside influence. An uneventful series of events from the outside to be sure. Her first year at UA passed with only a few minor hiccups in the assimilation process. Between naivety from her upbringing and Ana's very literal take on everything, interactions with other students were often less than pleasant. Yet Ana still managed to forge a couple of deep connections in spite of her difficult personality and settle in nicely for her second year of college where she continues to excel in her chosen field and in being a mischievous enigma. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]I T E M S UA ID - Ana's necessary identification for college. It also gets her student discounts at some businesses. Cellphone - She mostly uses this to text Gen and look up information on idioms and social cues. Earbuds - For tuning out stupid people on the go. Notebook - Filled with Ana's notes and design ideas. Her writing is a blend of languages and grammar that would require someone an excess of time, effort, and know-how to decipher. Backpack - A bag of holding. Not infinite in storage capacity, but it stores the basics along with some surprise goodies necessary for all the science Ana engages in outside of the laboratories. Bear - A stuffed penguin. [attr="class","body"] [attr="class","header2"]Q U I R K QUIRK NAME: Aurorakinesis QUIRK RANK: C QUIRK TYPE: Mutation/Transformation QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Aurorakinesis is a very specific form of light manipulation achieved through the use of any and all light absorbed via a network of light panels across Ana's body that then transforms Ana into a permeable light entity which can pass through solid matter by simple virtue of not being physical. This form takes on the appearance of an aurora borealis. Additionally, Ana's eyes are also affected by the mutation aspect, allowing her to see all spectrums of light and in the dark — much like a cat. Which is why Ana also possesses related, but purely aesthetic, mutations in the form of cat ears and a tail. QUIRK DRAWBACKS: The transformation properties of Aurorakinesis cannot function properly in the total absence of light. However, the light panels on her body can store enough light for a limited time use of the ability for emergencies in a complete blackout situation. Mirrors are another source of frustration for Ana as they will bounce her back. Regular glass and other plain reflective surfaces do not do the same. Additionally, Aurorakinesis cannot outright injure someone in a physical sense given its intangible nature while the transformation is active.
