[attr="class","Akihiro"] [attr="class","AkihiroTop"] Akihiro Koizumi[attr="class","AkihiroMiddle"] Support Orientation[attr="class","AkihiroContent"]A faint, feminine voice called out to him, stirring him from his slumber. "Professor...Professor?"
Eyes not fully opened yet, he could just barely make out the blurry figure as he slowly came to. "Nng...Gah!" Like being hit with a jolt of lightning, he jumped out of his seat and realized where he was: his lab. Right...He must've dozed off at some point during his research. "What time is it?" he asked, rubbing the bags under his eyes.
"Um...That's what I came here about. You're supposed to already be at the lecture hall for new student orientation. Um...You're actually fifteen minutes late."
"Oh. Oh. Well then, I suppose I better get going. Could you do me a favor? Stop by the cafeteria, grab me a hot latte, and bring it on over to the lecture hall, would you?"
Before she could even respond, he took off running. Fifteen minutes late on orientation day? By God, he's going to hear it from the administration for being late again. Really though, it was his fault. By now you'd think that Akihiro had learned his lesson. He didn't even need to be the one to give the speech, and yet always agreed to do it. As he came to a skidding halt in front of the lecture hall doors, he stopped to look at his reflection in the mirror, flatten his hair as best he could and straighten out his coat. It probably didn't help very much, but something was better than nothing.
As he walked into the lecture hall, passing by his pupils who had volunteered to help run the orientation, he greeted each of them with a curt nod, not saying a single word about his tardiness. By now, they should've known exactly what he was doing if it meant he was late.
"First, I'd like to apologize for my tardiness. Irresponsible behavior like that is very unbecoming of a student of this prestigious institution, and so it is even more shameful that I, as an educator, am guilty of it as well," he bowed.
"My name is Akihiro Koizumi, and I am the Head of Quirkology here at U.A. It is both my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to U.A." he paused, bowing once again.
"Once upon a time, I sat in the very seats you sit now. On my first day of orientation, my mentor, Professor Mori, stood where I stand right now, and he gave a very lengthy speech about the privilege of being able to attend U.A. His speech was riddled with platitudes. He echoed ideals about the school's motto, Plus Ultra, and tried his best to inspire us to live up to them—to go beyond. While that is all fine and good—and I respect Professor Mori—that is not the sort of speech that I like to give.
The fact of the matter is that you, against all odds, have made it into U.A. That does not mean you are safe, however. We educators of U.A. are given a privilege that no other educators in this nation are granted: Absolute Control with Impunity. That is, if I so desire, I could expel everyone in this lecture hall right now, and the administration would not dare to stop me. Will I do that, however? I have yet to decide.
Let me be clear: I will not tolerate mediocrity. I will not suffer fools. If you fail to rise to the standards of this institution—my standards, I will expel you without hesitation.
If you are the best that the world has to offer: Prove it."
With that, he stepped down from the podium and moved over to the volunteers, beckoning one of them to take the spotlight to explain how the rest of orientation was going to go. [attr="class","AkihiroNotes"]This thread is an orientation for the U.A. freshmen of the Department of Support. IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Ana had been on time. Ana was always on time. Being late made the inside of her head crawl with unpleasant memories of the first and last time she had been late. Mama had been very displeased. But now Ana was a better person for it! In fact, she was the best person the Support Department had to offer! :)
At least if you asked her. Which was the only opinion that mattered. Well. The professor’s opinion also mattered if she wanted to stay at UA and since that was what Mama wanted, then Ana wanted it too. Fortunately, Ana loved science and was actually at least among the best the tech-centric branch of the university had to offer. She had proved that by surviving her first year with a similar speech and expectations given at the start. Which was why Ana had been given the task of following up after the professor.
Ana stepped up to the podium wearing the school’s standard issued uniform with a short lab coat over top and a wide grin across her face. She stared unblinking into the crowd with unnaturally wide eyes. When she began to speak, her voice thick with a Russian accent came out in an upbeat tone kept so uniform and even that it was still monotone. The message was not so flat though.
“I am Ana Borovsky! A sophomore! I’ve been told I will have to help new students so I will! If you are stupid, however, I will pass you off to the far less talented and more slow thinking among my so-called-peers and your progress will likely suffer as a result! I won’t waste my time with idiots and I will be the first to suggest to Professor Koizumi that they be moved over to one of the other courses where using your brain is optional, and occasionally seemingly discouraged, or to be expelled!”
She paused to let her words sink in, her grin growing wider in the meantime before resuming. “The floor is now open for questions and we will be splitting up into assigned tour groups after the Q&A!” Now that she had added to the oh-so-welcoming vibe of the orientation, she stepped back to free up the podium for anyone else that wanted say something or to field questions (or understandable concerns) from the new students.

IN THE CITY OF FOOLS, I WAS CAREFUL AND COOL [attr="class","eire"]Gah, Aneko hated these kinds of things. It made her so uneasy, even when she was standing off to the side and not the object of attention; she was separated from the majority, being the freshmen who've attended to hear from both professors and their seniors of the support department. After having survived her first year of the institution, that somehow included her, which meant that she could very well be subject to some of the questions many of these people have. Could she answer all of them? What if she freezes up? What if no one asks her a thing? Would that mean she didn't look dependable? Her worries were practically contradicting each other. All of these combined with her frustration at the awkward air brought forth by someone being late. She genuinely thought that she must've been out of the loop after ten or so minutes of waiting in silence. Hell, she wouldn't have done this if it weren't at least beneficial for her. Procrastination plagued her studies, often leaving her panicking to finish things last moment, and this afforded her at least a few more days to do nothing until the last minute. But, in the end, one of the department's professors did arrive- and chose not to sugarcoat anything! She knew the school was prestigious, but even that made her worry. But hey, she survived a year, maybe she was safe. Luckily, Aneko didn't have to speak publically at all, as wasn't exactly the "pride of the support department" or anyone particularly ahead of the curve; that had been a common theme in this school, really. Talents that were deemed spectacular by her previous schools were quickly matched and outclassed when she first walked through U.A.'s doors, and she learned how small of a fish she really was. Next was a student in the same year, yet probably the clearest example of her own talents being swiftly outshone by others; Aneko didn't have much experience with them, though she certainly envied their ability. But, ignoring that, what the hell was that speech? First of all, ow, even if not a direct jab at her, she was part of that group Ana referred to her as her peers. Second of all, that was probably the most hostile way to follow up on the stern talk the professor gave just earlier! "Oh my god..." Aneko pinches the bridge of her nose, fearing whatever may come next. At the very least, she wasn't going to stir this pot. She liked to mess with people but that only ever extended to bad-mouthing people one-on-one. She was going to stand to the side and be available for direct questioning like she was told to. Maybe like, a little farther to the side, away from any immediate swarm of students. Like, way farther. And god forbid she gets swept up in any storm that Ana starts. a a but they tore me apart like a hurricane. Jesus Christ. That was the thought Kei had when he heard the speech from the professor a second time, just as direct and terrifying as the first when he was a freshman. Only after the initial shock of oh god I'm so gonna fail did he realize that the man was simply speaking the truth; they were some of the brightest minds in Japan at least if they got accepted into UAU. The least anyone wanted was to waste such an opportunity. And well, honestly, his speech certainly wasn't worse than Ana's. That one deserved a step above his initial thought: yikes. He couldn't even blame the other sophomore standing off to the side for not following that performance. So sure, even though he wasn't much of a public speaker he could give it a go. When the bright-eyed student stepped off the stand, he took it on, clad in his own uniform as he adjusted the microphone so it accommodated his shorter stature. Which let out a whine in protest. Awesome. Fantastic start. He gave an awkward grin once the noise settled. "Heeeey guys. I'm Kei Hada, UAU sophomore- I'm gonna be one of the tour guides. I Just wanna say that your brains are gonna be pushed to their limits here, but you're surrounded by equals now, and standing before you are those who have either experienced or are in the midst of experiencing what this place has in store for you. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it."Once Kei was finished, he distanced himself from the mic to return to his spot next to his peers. Akihiro Koizumi Ana Borovsky aneko

So... the speech by the professor and the mentor are intense and very anime-like. It also happened to be the very kind of trope that bores her to death. She wishes that she is inside Daedalus right now, but alas - she is smart enough to not mess around on the orientation if she doesn't want to be stripped off over what she wants. So all she can do now is to fight the drowsy demon within her until a word comes to her ear from one of the senior.
'... surrounded by equals now...'
A sharp pain can be felt on her stomach which makes her hunch forward holding the pain. She doesn't need to guess on which lie that she perceive since she already know what it is. The worst part is that, it is possible that the one who say that doesn't even realized it and has good intention. "Ugh, Kei-senpai. You are nice and all but please don't lie about everyone here are equals when clearly there is a senior, like you, and professor here" Zahra boldly says to Kei with her hand grabbing her stomach trying to ease out the pain. Fortunately, the pain is not intense enough to make her pale. It just gives her discomfort. [newclass=b]color:#D20514 [/newclass] [newclass=i]color:#7b3e46; font-weight:strong[/newclass]

He thought he did pretty okay you know? Other than the minor mishap with the mic - haha alliterations - Kei actually got through a speech that didn't involve explaining something he created. It was short, sure, but that was because he didn't repeat what the others said nor did he want to dig into the "platitudes" the professor himself wanted to avoid. But then someone accused him of lying. In front of the entire support department. That brought up some murmuring in the crowd, his credibility surely questioned now, and if Kei was younger he would've passed out from the sheer panic he'd feel from being called a liar in front of a lot of people. And the panic was there for sure but he's not passing out. Because once he calmed down enough to parse what the freshman said, he actually had questions. Questions that needed to be answered before the room went into chaos. Kei took to the stand again, not needing the adjust the mic this time as he looked to the grey-haired student with cat ears. "Lyin'? I was referrin' to all of the freshmen though, you're equals to each other. I addressed the professor and seniors with 'standin' before you'?" And there lied the confusion. She thought he included people further in their education when he said they were surrounded when that wasn't the case at all. Zahra Poetri

The sandwich Bongo munched on was a masterpiece of craftsmanship, hand-made by surely one of the greatest delis to exist on the planet. Rye-bread, between which was three thick slices of tender roast beef, layered in a switching pattern of pepperjack cheese, mayonnaise, mustard, and an entire dill pickle, sliced into thin sections. If he were to die on the spot, he'd be happy. So consumed was he by his meal, that he half missed what the professor had said, and hadn't even noticed his late arrival. He'd be half done by the time Borovsky took the stage, and made it down to a corner by the time Hada spoke.
Finally finishing, he'd hop down from his chair, the motion echoed by four other sets of small feet, and clap his hands together to clear the crumbs. He then turned to look at himself and him, Beta and Gamma, both of whom still wore their bear mascot outfits, having just returned from their shift in time for the orientation.
"The speeches this year are kind of harsh."
"Were they any better last year? Someone cried on the spot after the professor spoke."
"That was Kappa. He stubbed his toe against the chair while he was kicking his legs."
"Oh yeah. Wait, we're supposed to speak too, right?"
"I believe that is why the professor asked us to attend this orientation, despite being a sophomore."
"Who will do it?" A short period passed between the five Bongo's, before one of them brought their hand to their nose, deftly followed by three others. The one called Gamma all but slapped his hand to his face upon realizing what was happening, and sighed deeply when he recognized his loss.
"Fine. I shall encourage our juniors, and try not to make any of them cry in defeat." Moving away from his other selves and towards the stand, he'd hop up and snatch the microphone from in front of Hada and tap it briefly, testing its quality. "HELLO MY FELLOWS! I AM BINGOYASHI BONGOSU, A SOPHOMORE OF THIS UNIVERSITY'S SUPPORT PROGRAM AND THE FUTURE VALEDICTORIAN OF MY CLASS. WHILE IT IS TRUE, AS THE PROFESSOR AND MY ALMOST-PEERS HAVE SAID THAT THIS WILL BE A DIFFICULT COURSE OF STUDY MENTALLY, I HAVE FAITH THAT YOU CAN ALL PERSEVERE AND THRIVE IN THIS ENVIRONMENT." Despite speaking into the microphone, Gamma still shouted as if he weren't. "I SHALL ALSO GUIDING A TOUR TODAY. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK ME, MYSELF, OR I, AND WE SHALL ANSWER AS BEST WE CAN. PLUS ULTRA." As he said this, he pointed towards three of the other himselves, Beta, Kappa, and Epsilon, who were already talking to students who'd approached them.
Meanwhile, Alpha Bongo, the original, approached Borovsky, doing a short, quick clap as he did. "Interesting claim that you would be able to hand off any of the freshman to someone lower on the scale than yourself, Ana." In his hand he now munched on a pickle, where he retrieved it was anyone's guess, however.

A false positive, great.
Even with that realization there is no sign from Zahra being apologetic and her inner gremlin start to come out and ready to gas light this senior into oblivion. "Just because all of us here are junior so we all are equal where in reality that I am sure each one of us has their own expertise on different field which ultimately will end up one is not equal to another in the term of knowledge? Wow, generalizing much." Zahra shakes her head while letting out a sigh as she purposed let her face look downward so no one can see a little smirk on her face. The orientation was a little bit boring for her so she decide to spice up a little bit. "But since you are the senior, I guess you must be right. Carry on with the orientation, senpai~" Zahra lifts her head up a little bit showing a smile then remain silent for now.

Was something Morgan wished she could have said if she hadn't received the notification through her phone...and if she had anything resembling a spine to back it up. Instead, she continued to hunch over her desk, typing away at her computer with her favorite oversized hoodie. A small yawn escaped her lips as her tired eyes continued to dart around the screen, focused on the grind of her favorite MMO. She hadn't stepped outside of her dorm in about a day or so being absolutely engrossed in the new expac that had dropped earlier that week and hadn't slept at all the night before. She was on track to hit the cap first on her server![break][break]
Well, that was until she got a phone call from one of the school staff who yelled at her that orientation had already started and as a upperclassman, she was obligated to be there. Having been also told that if she didn't show up she would be on the shortlist for tours which shook her completely out of her trance. Having to not only hang out with the freshman but personally, show them around? For someone as quick as her she still felt that she couldn't get up fast enough, having decided to put on a face mask and her gloves before she went to the spot they were gathered.[break][break]
She was doing her best to slip in under the radar and when she arrived she tried to shrink herself as much as possible slowly climbing up the stairs before grabbing a spare seat at least two spots away from the nearest person. She didn't even bother to acknowledge the crowd of people as she REALLY didn't want to be dragged up to speak as the upperclassmen did at their orientation. After all, her follow sophomores were much more qualified than she ever could be. Pulling her knees to her chest she just sat silently, praying that no one including the ever hardworking Koizumi wouldn't make her do anything other than sit there. "Where the hell is everybody?!"
Fosh yelled out with his voice echoing through an empty lab of the support department. Not only was there not a single soul in the lab to respond to him, but from his perspective, there also wasn't a single ounce of soul put into the design of this place. And by this "place" he meant UAU as a whole, as no matter where Fosh looked after entering the main building, he could only see the same boring interiors and colors that seemingly had no end in sight.
It was as if the environment itself was trying to sap all creativity out of him, but despite that he still pushed himself to at least make sure he showed up on the first day of the orientation. That's where problem lied, Fosh didn't even know he was already late and had no idea where the orientation was happening. Why? Because, unsurprisingly, Fosh didn't bother reading any of the additional information provided during the admission. The only reason he even knew about the orientation happening today was because he heard other students mention it.
Now he had to look for the right lecture hall in this huge-as-hell building and without any directions at all! Some directions were there of course, but those complicated floor plans on the walls only made him more confused than he already was.
Luckily, it only took him a few tries before the next door he opened finally was leading to the right hall. Sensing the sheer amount of "nerdiness", as he likes to call it, Fosh knew right away that this room was the one he unfortunately had to enter, and he would do so in a surprisingly restrained nature. There was no loud entrance, no yell, no impressive displays. The teenager simply had no energy for stunts as he endured the suffocating atmosphere of this room. Making his way towards the nearest seat, Fosh let out a huge sigh as he tried to bounce back from this weak state.
"The hell is an orientation anyway? And why are these seats so freaking uncomfortable?! Who are these nerds talking?!" His voice getting louder as he spoke, Fosh expressed his frustration by wildly hitting his seat over and over.

IT'S ME! HI!
I'M THE PROBLEM! IT'S ME!
Unblinking. Unmoving. Ever-smiling.
Ana watched the proceedings play out in what seemed to be an uneventful manner when Kei took to the podium. It was all so… expected. He was nice. A total antithesis to Ana herself and the way she had approached the new student base. What wasn’t expected was how one responded by directly calling him out. It was then that Ana first moved, if only slightly. Her head tilted to the side and her eyes focused specifically on the speaker where they remained even as Kei addressed the student in return.
She moved a second time, now walking toward the podium as Kei finished speaking. It seemed Ana had something to add. Alas, she was momentarily stopped by another one of the sophomores. There was a brief debate in her mind about continuing forward. Bongo could take a knee to the face and Ana could claim she didn’t see or hear him from so far below eye and ear level, but that wasn’t the scene she wanted to cause. There was another in mind. She had to rid herself of the annoyance first though.
“Quantity will never replace quality, Bongo. Especially when the quality of said quantity is questionable at best. Even someone as lacking in intellect as they are in height such as you should be able to see that. And if not, my skills, creations, and grades speak for themselves.”
There was no space left for a retort directly to Ana’s face as she stepped past the original Bongo only to snatch up Gamma and the mic he had taken from Kei in one swift movement after the clone’s own speech had concluded, using the shorter student as a makeshift mic stand. Her eerie eyes and accent heavy voice were directed solely to Zahra even with other students entering late with muted entrances. Someone else could address this if they wanted. Ana had to contend with the fact that Kei had let a freshman make him look foolish and by association, the sophomore class to which Ana also belonged. It was simply unacceptable.
“While the rest of you process this one’s-” Ana paused to shake Gamma. “-attempt at being motivating, allow me to clarify further for the one in the crowd that spoke up, since where Kei seems to have been truly incorrect was in overestimating your ability to understand something simple.”
Zahra had misunderstood what Kei meant, after all. Anyone could see that — Even someone as literal minded as Ana. And now Zahra was backtracking to make Kei out to be the fool instead. Granted, he was a fool if he was getting played by something and someone so simple.
“You are all equal as freshmen in that your potential has not been proven to those of us on the other side of the freshmen threshold beyond the ability to pass the entrance exams into UAU. While a prestigious school, many do that regularly. You are not special in that accomplishment by direct comparison to those around you.”
There was a pause here as Ana’s grin widened. She had left little to no room for misinterpretation because she at a baseline didn’t believe in anyone’s ability to understand more than the most simple and direct words. Which is why she was as blunt as humanly possible as she continued to the point behind her stepping up.
“You, however, have proven something more than that here today. You have proven that you have less sense than most every other freshmen in the audience today.” Ana stopped here to point at one of the new arrivals that was busy hitting their chair. “Except perhaps them and whatever they’re doing right now. Can you not? Regardless, everyone else that was here when he spoke understood what Kei said and if they did not, then they at least didn’t open their mouths to make a fool of themselves with misinformed accusations rather than inquiries for clarification as a scientist should. I would say that seems to currently place you firmly in the running for the bottom of your class. At least you won’t have as far to fall should you fail to keep up with the curriculum here.”

Touche'
Zahra can't help to admit her loss over the big speech that Ana-senpai just help. At the very least, she erase the possibility of its being misinterpreted nor any lies is hold within what she just said. Well, the fun has pass and she is smart enough to not spoil her chance to stay in Japan over this. Her scholarship only runs as long as she is enrolled on one of the Japanese University and if she got kicked from the university, she would also lose her scholarship. Not only that, she understand what she just did to Kei-senpai is quite unfair to him so she is planning to look for the poor guy once the orientation is over. The guy have enough attention for today and now Zahra just going to sit and probably hold back her snooze. He made things worse somehow. Kei didn't know how it happened, or even why, but he was misunderstood again, assumed to be generalizing the intelligence of the freshmen this time. God, did she actually think he thought they were lesser for being first years? He had to fix that but how could he without making an even bigger mess of himself? Even if he didn't have a plan he tried to speak again, only for the mic to be taken from him by... a munchkin? Wait that's rude- a student! One of several in fact, some wearing a bear costume. Bongo right? The guy who made clones, which if you think about it was very convenient for being a tour guide. Honestly the smaller sophomore was much better at motivating the audience that Kei was, so he let him take the lead, backing away from the podium as quietly as he could. Even Ana took the stage again, grabbing the microphone - and Bongo in the process - to speak to the student who kept calling him out for a reason he didn't know. Direct and blunt as ever, and the last part was definitely uncalled for, but for the rest she spoke the truth. Sometimes he wondered if he'd have less problems if he held the same mindset. Kei took his position with the other sophomores again, giving a thumbs up to one of the Bongos there. He couldn't tell them apart but he was pretty sure they were all independent and had to relay information to each other. "Hey, can you thank the you that's speakin' for me? He's killin' it out there!"Then there was the girl who chose not to speak to the freshmen at all. He couldn't help but whisper. "Honestly, good decision not goin' up there. I didn't think I was gonna get singled out like that."Zahra Poetri Ana Borovsky Bingoyashi Bongosu aneko

IN THE CITY OF FOOLS, I WAS CAREFUL AND COOL [attr="class","eire"]Everything going to shit around her is exactly why she chose not to step up, staying out of the spotlight and crossfire of the inevitable battle of words that would take place. If this was the orientation for hero studies, she was sure someone would get riled up enough to like, throw a chair, or something. Well, not that it was as bad as she truly thought it'd get, but a few strong voices calling out from the crowd was still too much mess for her to care about. After all, she wanted to get through this orientation with minimal issues, then return to not doing her work until the last minute. She wasn't expecting someone to approach her, so far to the back, but luckily it was one of the more kind people who spoke up today. A fellow sophomore, although they were another person who had far more capabilities than she had. "Ahh, yeah." She let out an awkward laugh, "I had a feeling things were going to get worse after Ana's speech... though, I'm sure whoever stays after that are the ones who'll survive the program." As harsh as their words were, there were some definite truths among their words, and those who would break just from that were probably not suited for the program. "People were probably feeling a bit attacked after that first speech. It was a good try, just... difficult crowd, I guess." Aneko went back to looking over the freshmen as the situation was seemingly close to resolving. "Hopefully there are no more surprises."but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
