Tokyo was burning, but the two were safe. The injuries suffered through the night and now their latest brawl had cost them both. Freja was pretty beat up, and Farrin was almost entirely worn out by the day's events. There was no other option but to make for home - which was campus now.
"Seems clear," he said, peaking around the corner from another alley, then walking them out into the street. Surviving Operation Babel, not that the two students knew the name, had taxed them in blood and sweat. Maybe a few tears but who's to say? Farrin supported Freja's weight and leaned on her as well from time to time. They needed to support each other to get out of there now. All his speed meant nothing when Chronokinesis was drained, and drained it was. Maybe he could muster a few moments of the time-turning quirk, but that had to be reserved in case trouble did find them. Outside of his temporal state, Farrin was actually rather slow - the wear and tear his quirk caused his body now showing in full.
"Yuh' gonna be alright, lass?" He asked, breathing in deeply and hobbling them toward the next alleyway in sight. "C'mon, time fer' a quick breather says me, we'll get movin' again in a minute."
Farrin set his friend up against the wall of what looked like a residential building. After laying out a few thugs just ten or so minutes ago, they were lucky not to be chased. Some might keep on moving, but what good would it do them to pass out in the middle of the streets? No, they needed a moment to rest.

Somehow, he doubted the courtesy extended to campus, but that didn't matter at the moment. They weren't on campus. Different stages, different rules. What mattered were the tests they were about to run, how they might benefit the professor, and how they might benefit him.
"Mhm, glad ta' help. I dun' know how applicable me' quirk would be ta' support gear, but if it can somehow help other heroes out, I'm game." Were there batteries that could store temporal energy? In sifting dreams, it was revealed that mercury could hold a temporal charge for whatever reason, but how useful would that be to anyone who couldn't manipulate time's power? A conundrum left to better minds.
Farrin fit himself with the headpiece and gloves, hopped a few times out of habit, and to ensure everything was latched down tight, and then followed Iphi into the exam room. While she situated herself back in the control room a moment later, Farrin jabbed the air a few times, shadowboxing. Another habit to occupy still moments.
The room was a little chilly and devoid of life. Mostly empty. It wasn't unlike the training facility in the Above & Beyond agency. Were stun rounds about to fly his way here too? Iphi's voice was quick to drag his attention back to the here and now.
"Alright, but it's a mouthful," he called back. "So, Chronokinesis is a multifaceted quirk. Its most obvious use I call Temporal Flow n' looks like this," Farrin extended his left hand, palm up, and summoned a small sphere of nearly-translucent emerald energy. His sanguine eyes would burn gold and take the features of clock dials, signifying his use of his quirk's temporal state. "While like this, I can summon a unique form o' energy. Doctors' thought it may be related ta' Cherenkov radiation but were unsure, so I jus' call it temporal energy." He was about to use the word Temporal a whole lot. "These energy fields act as a catalyst that allows me ta' speed things up or slow 'em down. The former is easier than the latter. I do need ta' dictate which property the field will have, and its duration and shape, before I actually summon it. I can also create form-fitting fields around meself n' others but, again, the former is far easier than the latter, which requires intense multitasking since I dun' know where n' how someone else might move next beforehand like I do meself. Anyway, the properties o' me' fields remain in effect even fer' a few seconds after someone or somethin' passes through 'em or after the field collapses as the residual temp energy dissipates."
The sphere above Farrin's hand would dissipate a moment later. Speeding things up really was a lot easier, more like swimming with a rapid river rather than against it, which was what he essentially did while applying temporal deceleration. No need to discuss the "feeling" here though, right?
"Summonin' a field on someone uncooperative is the most difficult thing, hence why I dun' just try forcin' slow fields on potential enemies. It saps me' incredibly fast like time itself is fightin' back. On the other hand, an acceleration field around meself or an ally is incredibly useful. It's no just movement speed that increasin' but the speed o' signals travelin' through the body, so ta' me it's like the world is movin' slower. Me' reaction time can be incredibly fast. But, in truth, this is also due ta' the other facet o' me quirk, Temporal Resonance. Believe it or no', I can sometimes grab quick glimpses o' the future or other times. This is most prevalent when I sleep or when the adrenaline is pumpin' n' I'm in danger. I'll see split seconds ahead sometimes, or just feel a quick burnin' sensation in me' head that acts as a sort o' warnin'. This coupled wit' temporal acceleration speedin' me body up makes me pretty hard ta' hit."
Not everybody believed the future sight part, but then he didn't really go peddling that information away. It was usually only small glimpses when he was actively in danger. It could offer visions of parallel times as well, which meant not every instance was accurate to this time. For now, though, he would keep the rest under wraps until he got a better feel for the professor.
"As fer' me own questions, well, how much yuh' know 'bout theoretical physics in regards ta' time?" He half-laughed, not because he didn't think she would stack up, it's not as though he knew all the much on the theoretical workings of time outside of his quirks insights. It was only that he hadn't met anyone yet who had much to contribute. It was, after all, all theoretical.

Sooner or later, the rest of the thugs below would make their way up the building. Or maybe they wouldn't. Who was to say? Was honor among thieves a real thing? Would they bother to check on their fallen allies? Farrin didn't intend to stick around and find out. The day's 'extracurricular' activities had taxed him in full. Gold faded to red, then burned bright once more in his eyes, Chronokinesis shifting on and off.
"None up 'ere, lass. Not yet, at least," Farrin started, eyeing the fallen fliers. "Nice work wit' the grapple shot."
With the most immediate threats neutralized, Farrin trudged over to Freja, who had fallen back on the floor, and helped her to her feet. He had a few inches of height on her, but it wasn't enough to make looping her arm around his shoulder for support unfeasible. They needed to vacate the rooftops and make for campus.
"C'mon, I gotcha," he offered, walking them towards a fire escape on the opposite end of the building. The final drop might be a bit troublesome in their conditions, but fighting for too much longer might prove fatal. He would take the drop.
"We'll take the backstreets, move along quieter roads. Wish we could do more, but we can't help anyone if we're no' breathin' ourselves." With that, Farrin started them down the fire escape, and onto their path back to campus. They had done at least a little good. It had to count for something. A few potential lives were saved. Now, the priority was to live to fight another day.

Maybe he wasn't wielding a lightsaber like he and Zenkai had hoped, but what did it matter? Everyone's quirks were changing to abilities not unlike those of the Force from that old and awesome Sci-Fi, Star Wars. Farrin had been gifted with one of the most iconic powers of the dark side, electricity spinning between his fingers. Luckily, unlike the old series, the use of the ability wasn't drawing him to some dark side.
He was going to have to find out how to get his actual quirk, Chronokinesis back, but shooting lightning from his fingers would certainly do for now. The time-turner, now lightning thrower, was moseying across the university's training grounds where other students were playing with their own newfound quirks. Some had enhanced speed, others telekinesis, and a few had some sort of precognition. Whatever divine powers were playing with the world now, they were certainly a Star Wars fan.
Coming up the hill where he usually trained, Farrin found himself relatively clear of potential bystanders. "Alrighty then, let's give it another go," he spoke lowly, then cast his hands ahead. Lightning arced from his fingers and scorched the grass at the top of the hill. All that remained of the small patch he targeted was a small splotch of charred black and flames. Luckily, they were small enough that Farrin could stomp the fires out. So the lightning was in fact hot enough to dry the greenery it came into contact with, then set it ablaze. If he was stuck with lightning he had to know its limits. There were others who had lightning quirks in the past, but the bolts they fired didn't always move quite as real lightning or sometimes didn't burn as hot even if it looked exactly like the natural thing. He needed to conduct more testing.

A malevolent maestro sang madness into their world, that much was clear, but now he was revealed. Had Balor broken out of prison, it surely would have hit the news even out here. The internet. Someone somewhere would have said something. But Farrin and Miroru had both taken a bad dose of that dark mist. A catalyst of some kind? If not, what else?
Farrin adopted his fighting stance. His legs bucked under the increased gravity, but after a moment, they stilled. The scales were picking themselves up, Farrin's earlier blitz not quite neutralizing them, but the struggle was clear. Farrin could dig into the thing that was supposedly his father again, but he was no longer the time-turner's true enemy. The enemy - was perched above, still recovering from the shift in gravity as well.
Farrin spun, brought his arm up, and lined his glove with the suited mask. With a flick of the wrist and white light cut across the distance. His linear cannon spat a stun round in Alastor's direction. Then the beam of light split in two. With his katana drawn, the Fang stood his height. His blade shimmered above his head.
"Haste makes waste, little one," the villain mused, then the battering ram struck.
The amalgamation of muscle and lightning crashed and toppled Alastor from his perch, the man's sheer mass taking one of the scales down with him. The villain gritted his teeth and shoved at the dark hero's copy. Luckily, not the real thing, the false-Incapacitor complied, picking himself, then helping Alastor to his feet.
"Damn kids," Alastor spat, coming to the edge of the building again. "That's it."
The Fang cracked his knuckles, but a crackle in his earpiece immediately followed. "What? No. I can do this. We have them pinned. They're tiring," he muttered into the comms unit built into his mask. "Absolutely not!" What do you I don't?" He looked up, and there another murder of crows approached. "No! Just give me more time! I can-" but before he could finish, one of the crows crashed into Alastor. More swarmed over the scales as well. As each of the shadowy avians touched on the agents of Ouroboros, they disappeared, the crows taking to the horizon.
"Dammit! No' again!" Farrin shouted, leaping upward, then kicking off the very air. His second step, however, was greatly reduced in speed, the effects of his not-father's quirk still warping his control over chronokinesis. Farrin crashed onto the ground. Reality edged out his hopes. They got away. Again. The time-turner sighed, rubbing his throat. Adrenaline receded and was swiftly replaced by a pulsating pain.
"Feckin' hell," he sighed, then looked down the street. "Yuh' alright o'er there?" He shouted, then looked up and down the block for any sign of the Balor copy or Miroru's opponent. Sirens wailed in the distance. The authorities were on their way, and there was little evidence, yet again, for Farrin to use. He quickly picked himself up. "C'mon, if yer' good ta' move, we should head back ta' campus. They won't like hearin' we were lookin' fer trouble n' we dun' have anythin' to how the police."

There was no denying that. One that Farrin couldn't afford to pass up. Professor Pavlina, or "Recall" as she was referred to among hero society, was renowned for her nearly unrivaled intellect. As extensive as UAU's libraries were, they offered little insight into the flow of time. Theoretical physics was, after all, theoretical.
Most of Chronokinesis's current applications revealed themselves shortly after Farrin discovered his quirk at four years old. The developments that followed were examples of precision and intensity. He learned to move faster, and less clumsily, but there were other capabilities that hid at the periphery of the time-turner's mind. Capabilities that grew more and more concerning. Capabilities he wasn't yet ready to share with UAU, but maybe after today, after experiencing the university's most intelligent, and therefore most likely to grasp the nature of his newfound demons, maybe he would have someone he could confide in.
So, Farrin made his way to the lab at Tokyo's heart. It wasn't hard to find. And Farrin had made it a habit never to arrive late. Time was not a resource he would waste. That came courtesy of his mother, a lesson learned even without his quirk. You didn't waste your own time or that of others. So, eventually, Farrin would make his way inside the unassuming building and was immediately greeted by a series of spotless hallways. A worker in the lobby directed him to his destination and a few seconds later he arrived in Iphi's control room.
Sanguine eyes moseyed from one side of the room to the glass window, then onto Iphi. "Eh, Professor? Or, erm, Recall?" He asked. Some of the Pro-hero professors preferred their hero names, others were fine with the typical Professor title. Which was he dealing with today? And, more importantly, what would these tests entail? Was he just showing off what he could do? Or were there more practical tests in store for him?

If only for a moment, her embers built back into flames - or so it seemed to Farrin, who gave his friend a quick look over when she tested the bat's cable. They had a moment, a moment they would make the most of with their tools and abilities. Her grapple line and his acceleration field.
The duo rocketed upward toward the roof, and when they landed, Farrin couldn't help but notice the distinct lack of crunch of flesh on stone. That's because Freja had positioned herself to be a land cushion of sorts, which might not have been very fair given the size and weight difference. He could have used a deceleration field to slow them, broke some of the momentum, but exhaustion really was weighing on him, and slowing things down was far more tiring than speeding them up.
Farrin was quick to recover. Not his usual quick, but after rolling over and spending a brief moment staring up into the skies bleeding red from all the fires spreading across the city, he picked himself up. "Yuh' keep makin' sacrifice plays, lass, n' yuh'll ne'er prove those shite eatin' feckers from orientation wrong," he offered far more softly this time, along with a hand to help her to her feet.
Before he could continue or reply to whatever came next, the moment was broken by three fliers. "And just where do you two think you're going?" A feather-winged thug shouted, followed by one using flames for propulsion, and a third that just seemed to fly without discernible means. Farrin lined his arm up with the leftmost goon and fired his weapon. A stun round smacked the fire-flier square in the chest and dragged him to the ground. Then another round clipped the third thug, who must have been using some kind of telekinesis or something. He couldn't defend himself though, because he too slammed hard into the roof. All that was left was the loudmouth with the feathered wings.

Sorry, but I dun' leave people behind needlessly." The muggers' targets were safe, far from the fighting. With that item crossed off the list, Farrin's next priority was increasing Jun's odds of survival, which meant coming back to help her. Haste might have blinded him to her intentions, his wrists now lined with the villain surrounded by motes of flame and Shark-Teeth. The former was recovering from the spotlight crash, the latter still shaking it off. Farrin fired stun rounds from the linear cannons built into his gloves. Shark-teeth was floored, but FireBall thrust a hand ahead just before he too was clipped. Though he fell beside his buddy, three spheres of flame flew in Farrin and Jun's direction.
A small wall of faint emerald energy would appear before them, slowing the fireballs as they passed through it. By the time their speed was restored, Farrin and Jun were out of the way, making for Jun's chains. "Right, gotcha," Farrin replied, looking back to the rest of the recovering gang. Flame-Sword was the first to give chase, running around the field of temporal deceleration. Next was the werewolf. Jaws and FireBall were still picking themselves up, slowed due to the stun rounds still playing hell on their nervous system. Another round and they would likely lose consciousness, but Jun opted for a tactical retreat.
There was nothing more Farrin wanted to do than turn and put the feckers down, knocking them unconscious and making an anonymous call to the police or something, to see them apprehended. But the priority tasks had been handled. The victims were safe, and Jun wasn't left to fight by herself. That would have to do for the moment.
