Time-tuned senses saved Farrin from the worst of the damage, but battling through a horde of villain bots and the many explosives Lone Wolf had rigged the building with was wearing him down. By the looks of it, his ally too. Fists flew, and machines were made into spare parts, but the bots, too, were rigged to blow upon "death." The first explosion had blown Farrin across the floor, right into another two proximity charges. The first, he had escaped unscathed. The second, however, blew him right back towards the stairwell he came from.
The search for Lone Wolf proved to be a war of attrition unto itself. One Farrin was winning with the help of the second year, but it hadn't come without cost. Each battle left its mark. The ascent would have deterred others long ago, yet the two rising the tower now suffered death by a thousand cuts. By the time Farrin kicked the final door in, finally finding the UAU sadist professor, blood had seeped into his hero outfit and trickled down his arms.
"We're," Farrin huffed, "takin' yuh' in."
The words were robbed of Farrin's usual confidence and stoicism. Yes, he had gone toe to toe with Leonid and nearly prevailed, but that match started with both combatants on equal footing in terms of physical condition. Lone Wolf may have been untouched, but Farrin and the second year were injured. They had the numbers advantage, but Lone Wolf had experience. The time-turner wouldn't back down, but he knew bad odds when he saw them. This wasn't going to be easy.

More might still be shuffling through the alleyway. Hopefully not. Either way, Farrin's ability to contain the threat boiled down to the quirks of his enemies and how experienced they were. The speedster was fast. Very fast, but Farrin was the quicker in a scrap at least, which was indicative of superior hand-to-hand combat capabilities. Had the thug been better than the student, he would have blocked on time.
"Well, c'mon now, boyos, we're no' takin' numbers. Do yer thing n' I'll do mine," he taunted them with a smirk.
Farrin's hand reached into his pockets, removing his gloves. The gloves Kei had made. The gloves concealed two small yet extremely powerful linear cannons. He slipped them on, and though the thugs didn't know it, Farrin was protected by the shirt and pants of his hero outfit, which he wore below his outerwear. He wasn't only trained and capable. He was armed.
"Get them!" The thug at the head of the line yelled.
Them? Farrin fixed his gaze behind him to the new arrival. Their face was covered in a web or something. He couldn't identify them, which was likely the point, but they hadn't moved to hit him from behind. No flare from his temporal senses, so they hadn't posed any danger to him - yet.
Time, oddly enough, was working against him. Farrin couldn't focus on the figure behind him when the thugs rushed ahead. So, Farrin turned his attention back to the known quantities. Two of the three leading to the charge had no quirks. The third grew spikes from his knuckles. In a blur of movement, Farrin jabbed the closest quirkless thug in the jaw, knocking him out, then elbowed the second into the ground. Spikes flew through the air, tearing at the sleeve of his gray t-shirt, revealing the black of his hero outfit below. Farrin had just narrowly dodged the attack, his temporal senses searing his brain hot. So, knuckles here could launch those spikes. Well, two down, ten to go.

But whatever the trouble brewing nearby, he was closing in. His clothes were in tatters after the previous encounter with Josephine (though he could only identify her as Lady Web) and the thugs they had handled together. Below the grey t-shirt he'd been wearing, the black of his hero outfit had shown. His gloves, armed with Kei's linear accelerator cannons, were also snug on his fists. He no longer ventured off campus without the shirt and pants of his hero outfit under his outerwear or without his gloves pocketed. There were too many troublesome run-ins. Today, it paid off.
Turning from one street and onto the next, Farrin found the source of the gunfire. A few goons stood in a semi-circle around someone. While two or three looked the battered figure over, the rest were firing their guns off into the street. Luckily, the path was otherwise only populated by abandoned vehicles and debris.
"Oi! You leave 'em alone!" Farrin shouted.
He hadn't known it was Freja yet, her image still mostly obscured by the line of goons. He only knew someone was in danger, and if the goons attacked him, he would be acting in self-defense again. That was the plan until the time-turner closed in a few more meters. He saw her battered body adopting his fighting form. A bare-knuckled boxing stance of Irish origin, Dornálaíocht. Admirable. It was almost enough to bring a smile to his face, but it wasn't lost on him that Freja's closest target wielded her faithful BBB. He wasn't waiting for self-defense this time.
"Brutal mistake, lads. Absolutely brutal."
Farrin was about ten meters down the street, on the same side they had Freja encircled when his wrists rose. Two unassuming barrels extended, one from each glove. With the downward thrust of his fists, Farrin's quirk activated, and the cannons fired. Their munitions, however, were anything but unassuming. Streaks of white cut across the distance. At the accelerated speed he dialed in, the stun rounds wouldn't be lethal. They would perform exactly as intended. Namely, they would hurt like hell and stun the enemy. The two closest goons were sent flying back a few meters, slamming hard into the wall beside Freja, and then were shocked into unconsciousness. Farrin wasn't a good enough shot to take out the guy holding Freja's bat without the risk of hitting her, and he knew it, but he could grab the others' attention. Maybe it would give her an opening to make a move.

Brilliant blue skies slowly gave way to the bleeding reds and oranges that marked the slow advance of night. Accompanying the initial marks of sunset was a light breeze that swept through the megacity, a breeze that whisked away the sweat of the working folk on their return home. While the day was coming to a close for some, though, for others, the work had only just begun.
Farrin leaped from one roof to the next, leading the student trio forward on their patrol. “Both o’ yuh good ta’ make this one?” He asked, staring across the gap between buildings. The practice patrol route ran along the Merguro River, decorated in lush reds, pinks, and whites - a view denied to the students above, who had a schedule to keep.
“I’m thinkin’ if we cut across a few more o’ the larger gaps, we’ll make it ta’ Burger Town before they close.”
A light breeze whipped into a billowing gale, tossing Farrin’s hair this way and that. He ran a hand through the brown mane and wiped away a few beads of sweat before turning to Zen and Kenta. Only a few combinations of students might make it through the route fast enough to see them walk away with their greasy, meat patty prizes in hand, but these three together could do it. This assignment didn’t mark their duration in the field, only that they made it along from the beginning of the route to the end. The distance was not insubstantial, but they could do it.
“S’long as we dun’ make bags o’ the patrol from ‘ere forward, I’m sure we can make-”
The speedy gale grew into an aggressive gust, shoving Farrin by the shoulders and nearly over the edge. The time-turner quickly caught himself, throwing his weight downward into his foot. His boot slammed into the concrete roof, firmly anchoring him in place. The skies grew dark and restless, black clouds snuffed out the sun, and hurricane winds caged the students. No, not just them, but the entire ward.
“What in the bleedin’ sevens?” Farrin shouted, competing with the roaring winds.
The clouds bled into spirals below, small tornados and the like dotting the ward. A lone cyclist and his bright blue bicycle blasted into the air from the path along the river. Just behind him, a sedan followed. A large storefront sign that read “Aoki Ramen“ was ripped away and threatened to slam into one of the passersby below.
“Dinner’s gonna have ta’ wait,” Farrin shouted, throwing his hands forward.
One field caught the cyclist and the car. Another formed around the store sign below. Temporal deceleration fields. They would slow anything that passed through them to a crawl. The fields would dissipate a second later, their effects lasting briefly beyond the point of contact—just enough time for the students to act without being caught in the fields themselves.
Farrin leaped onto the car, prying its door off and removing the driver before dropping to the street below. One of the others would have to grab the cyclist, while the last of them would need to either stop the sign or remove the potential victim from its path. When all was said and done, Farrin would set the driver down on the ground as his vehicle slammed into a nearby alley, planting itself in a wall. This shite was unnatural. Like earth flushed down the drain and into hell unnatural. Luckily, the trio wouldn’t have to look far to find its source. The massive concentration of clouds and lightning was a dead giveaway.
“C’mon, lads. Trouble’s brewin’ o’ver there. I dun’ think we’ve any pros along the route.”
At least SuperNova, the professor who tasked them with the route, had warned… which meant it was up to them to find out what the hell was going on. And to deal with it, too.

It wasn't as though the city wasn't celebrating this week off. There certainly were a number of festivities, but the scales leaned more towards relaxed rather than energetic. People were still having fun, families smiling and laughing, elderly folk moving to and fro, likely to nearby shrines for what he heard was Showa day, and youngsters running around in nearby parks. No matter the activity though, everyone walked as though the weight of their daily lives had been lifted off their shoulders.
Farrin, however, watched with analytical precession. Even outside of his temporal state, the world still moved rather slowly in his eyes. That, and his many heroics classes and the practice patrols he went on, only further honed his senses. Even while relaxed, he kept an eye out for potential danger.
Forcing himself to dial down that part of his brain, he looked Natsumi's way once she replied. "Sounds nice. Some time wit' the folks when they're no playin' on the political stage," he started, considering the few worthwhile memories he still had of his parents together. It only took a moment for the thought to pass. "Well, I know today people have off fer' Showa day, but there are other holidays through the week, right? Like Golden Week is sorta a conglomerate o' holidays? What else they've goin' on?"
Slowly, Farrin's tension eased. The practice patrols really had him focused, but things were genuinely calm today. No ne'er-do-wells stirring up trouble. No thugs hustling people for money. These little outings had proved to be among those few times Farrin had left campus without some trouble finding him. Hopefully, it would stay that way.

Four thugs had a young couple up against the walls of a dark alleyway. A mugging - or worse - in progress. Fortunately, Farrin had interfered without putting himself or the couple in danger. He was skirting the rules for sure, but he hadn't engaged the criminals. Not yet. Instead, he swept into the alley at the sight of the thugs near the mouth of the passage, grabbed onto the young man and woman, and made for the street on the other side.
"Head ta' the hospital just a few streets that way," he said, pointing back where he came from, "it's secure. Hunker down there until all this is sorted out."
"Th-th-thank you," the woman offered, turning with her boyfriend and starting down the street.
Thunder rang from Farrin's spine. He flew into the ground, his head slamming hard into the concrete. The temporal flare at the back of his brain reached him only a second too late. It seared the back of his mind again, daring him to find out what would happen if he kept still. He didn't. Farrin rolled over just as a balled-up fist crumbled the ground where his head had been a moment prior. A speedster. Not one like him. There was no tug of time, but fast nonetheless.
"Shite," Farrin cursed.
The time-turner kicked off the ground and lunged into a roll, then sprang up on his feet. If it was speed vs speed, he had to keep moving. A whir of movement, an ejected air swirled at the center of the street. Farrin's chronokinesis against the thug's speed quirk - whatever its nature.
"You're fast, kid, I'll give you that. But not fast enough!"
He swung. One fist met another as Farrin jabbed. This time, the thunderous crack rang out from between them. Farrin's mouth journeyed into a smirk. "Self-defense now," Farrin muttered, "I'm free ta' act, yuh' thick skulled gob!" Farrin threw his other fist forward, and the shot connected, throwing the thug back toward the alley - where his friends came running to his aid. He could handle this, right? He had before. Yeah, he could definitely handle this. He had to.

This guy was a third-year. Certainly he had witnessed his fair share of impressive students since entering UAU's gates. Farrin was confidence incarnate. A fact he had done little to hide, but had his reputation grown to such heights that the third years had caught wind of him? Consider his ego stroked, even if he found the situation more than a little odd.
"Eh, sure?" He almost asked more than answered, grabbing the marker and signing the photo. "N' you, Hiroshi?"
The other student continued to dust himself off, then waved the question away. "Right, and attach my name to memorabilia celebrating my defeat? No thanks." With that, the other student started toward the cafeteria. "I'm grabbing something to eat. Catch you later O'Rourke."
Farrin shrugged, then turned back to face Gabe. An interview, too? This was not at all the sort of attention he expected to receive during his first year. Wouldn't such efforts be better spent on the senior class, who would soon be loosed from UAU's walls? Still, it couldn't hurt, though, right?

The last time he ventured out with Natsumi, it was to check out something kind of like this. The Ikigai Matsuri. This time, however, he was faced with a whole week of celebrations. Golden Week, apparently. Normally, his each and every day's itinerary involved training of some sort. First, it was just with the Above & Beyond agency, then Hero Prep as well, and now UAU. The boy didn't stop training. That was something he was slowly trying to rectify. Luckily, again, Natsumi was there to help.
Farrin's circle was, without a doubt, expanding, yet still relatively small. Besides Sada, there was Kenta, who he also knew from Hero Prep, and a few others bordering on full-fledged friends. Natsumi, however, already proved both friendly and capable. She was definitely in that circle. So, with his friend at his side, he ventured into the city's celebrations once more. Luckily, she wasn't one to obligate him to any odd social situations. If he were interested in anything in particular, however, she would surely be quick to answer.
"Thanks again fer' comin' out 'ere," he said as the two students walked further into Tokyo's heart. "So, I'm guessin' you n' yer family celebrated out 'ere through the week often, right?"
Small talk was the devil, but in this instance, Farrin would deal with it. It was genuine curiosity this time around. Zen would keep the injured safe for now. Despite his aversion to conflict, and anything that required effort really, he wasn't going to let innocent people get hurt. Meanwhile, Farrin ventured further into the chaos. Whatever was happening around Tokyo, it was absolute madness. Chaos around every corner. Technically, he wasn't supposed to take action against criminals unless absolutely necessary, but that didn't mean he couldn't help those in need. And if absolutely necessary came to pass, well, he would have no option but to defend himself, right?
The time-turner blazed up one street and flew down another. Chronokinetic bursts that saw him travel great distances in minimal time. He couldn't rely on it constantly. That was a recipe for fatigue and, therefore, disaster, but if he gauged himself properly, he could do some real good - buy the heroes and other authorities time to move from one incident to the next.
"What in the blazin' sevens is goin' on?" He muttered, turning a corner to approach the sound of gunfire.
Something had emboldened the criminal elements of the massive metropolis. In another time, he would have the resources to discern the nature of this new-found confidence. Here and now, though, all he could do was press on and play damage control. Help those he could. Intervene when and where necessary. Hopefully, most of his peers were safe back on campus. Of course, that wouldn't be the case. When was it ever?

He lifted the machine up into the air, then dropped it back in something of a suplex. A swift kick to its jaw put the bot out. Had it been a living, breathing person, one without some durability quirk, it would have lost a few teeth. The two bots were armed, though, and partaking in terrorist actions, so he was still a far cry away from the line of excessive force.
With the two bots down, Farrin looked to his hip. Raising his shirt, he was met with a black and blue patch of skin. Bruised. Numb. Not broken. He could still move, albeit there would be a slight hobble on his left side. The bots below were undoubtedly closing on his position, but things were quiet for the moment, at least.
That was until something of a gong rang partway across the city. Farrin turned to the sound, watching as the rods, or whatever they were, fell in the distance. Message received. The time-turning student started his hobble and broke into an odd sprint, then leaped over the edge of the building. He practiced the little maneuver he was working on with Miroru, using an acceleration field just below his boot as he kicked to sort of air-step his way down from the rooftop. He was more slowing himself than flying or anything of the like, but it kept him from crashing hard against the ground.
Instead, the lad landed on his feet, the rooftop access door above slamming open. He had just avoided the bots that were converging on him. A moment later, he blazed down the street and into the distance. He didn't have a precise location, but in his eyes, the pipes were still falling. That narrowed the target area down. In all of a minute or so, he would be near Emi's position.

Peer #1 was certainly lacking in the steadfast nature demanded of most heroes. Calling it quits just because the opposition was formidable? Never. If they quit against a professor here, what would happen when up against real villains beyond UAU's walls? The stakes were real out there. In here, they benefitted from do-overs and relative safety. Peer #2, however, had Farrin's attention.
"I could always try ta' slow-"
Before Farrin could finish, Peer #1 made his move. Had he waited, Farrin could have encased the entire rig with a slow field. If it detonated, they would have at least a few extra seconds to retreat before the explosive force escaped the confines of his field and the after effect. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Peer #1 was an odd mix, one part timid yet one part brazen. Resigned, yet eager. That had cost them. As he blew by Farrin and the other student, the time-turner couldn't help but consider how useful another body on the field against a professor would have been.
Turning back to Peer #2, he answered, "I can make fields that speed things up or slow 'em down. I can wrap it around people or otherwise create fixed fields in the air or around objects n' such. The effects last as long as somethin' remains in the field, n' a few seconds after it passes beyond those fields."
It didn't take a genius to guess there was an element of time at work, but Farrin typically kept mum on those details with strangers. Sometimes, people expected the whole temporal shebang. Time travel? Not possible. Or, at least, not for him. Farrin had tried many times to no avail.
"I've mostly been usin' debris, rocks n' such, ta' toss 'round out 'ere ta' set of proximity mines prematurely. We can likely do the same in 'ere, but I dun' know what else might be waitin'. How 'bout yerself? What's yer' quirk?"

Who knew, maybe in a hundred years or so, temporal tomfoolery might make for admissible evidence, but not this soon after the emergence of quirks. Lawmakers were still catching up with the profound societal changes that came with the introduction of superpowers. Understandably so, but it certainly left some complications in the time-turner's way.
"Certainly does, lass. Immediate threats tend ta' be more accurate, but the further out the vision, the more difficult it is ta' discern."
Regarding quirks, Farrin's was one better felt than studied. The study of time remained mostly theoretical. Its combative applications remained his to discover. Well, he and the few others out there in possession of temporally related quirks.
"Wish I had more ta' read that might prove useful. Mostly got me' start racin' cars along the highway n' such."
And such veiling the less than legal activities required for a young homeless lad to survive. He never hurt anyone, though. Well, not anyone that didn't deserve it. Eventually, he was plucked from his city's streets. With a few years of intensive training, he became the man he was today.
The empty street was becoming familiar to Farrin. The eeriness of absolute quiet long fading away. Still, there was a definitive lack of something that separated the small neighborhood from the rest of the city. Farrin ran his hand over the symbol again, then looked to Miroru's phone, pushing the odd, probing sensation from his mind.
"Breaking cycles," he muttered.
Standing atop a nearby building, a masked figure watched the two. "He's back. Brought another friend, too. Make sure they know Magister screwed the pooch on this. His place as Lead Fang should be called into question," the man spoke, a finger to the side of his mask. "How do we proceed?" If Ana implemented the upgrades to the suit, they worked as he hoped, and she repaired it when necessary, keeping the particulars under wraps worked for him. What he had hoped to avoid, however, was the source of this information. Hiding the nature of chronokinetic flow was nearly a moot point. Regardless of its nature, people would soon learn he could speed things up and slow them down. It was the more forward-facing aspect of chronokinesis. Resonance was another story. When others wished to swim across the expanse of time, they often didn't like the murky waters there to be found.
"Well," he started, pausing only to consider his options.
Lying was an option on the table. Not his favorite cuppa. He preferred little omissions over outright deceit. In this instance, though, wisdom came hand in hand with the truth. Ana would be one of his go-to's from here on out. At least when it came to his hero outfit. That meant potential future upgrades, which would be implemented best if she knew the scope of his quirk. The decision made itself.
"There are other facets ta' me quirk. The fast forward n' slowin' things down are kinda the race stripes. Under the hood, there's more goin' on. I can also see things sometimes. Past. Future. Other, parallel times entirely on occasion. Had an instance o' the lattermost recently. Saw meself' talkin' ta someone 'bout the relationship between liquid mercury n' me' quirk. I figure, if it could act as some sorta temporal storage in one time, I dun' see why it wouldn't in another."
He and the silver-haired woman were talking about how his watch functioned, specifically after they had run some tests in a rather large corporate-looking building - a few spires all interconnected. Very spiffy. Nowhere this particular time-turner felt he would be allowed to step foot in. Not without finding this time's version of the mercurial woman. But that hadn't happened. Not yet, at least.
