t was light work so far, but the king of the jungle was incredibly withheld. It was clear Leonid had the advantage in size, strength, and reach. Without his quirk, Farrin was slower too, Chronokinesis weighed on him until he kicked it up properly. A few traded jabs landed no meaningful damage but parsed out the opposition.

Farrin's extended left fist chopped at the last of Leonid's combo, parrying the blows. It was the greatest difference between conventional boxing and dornálaíocht. A traditional boxing stance accounted for gloves and the increased mass they provided. Without those gloves, normal boxers lacked a firm defense. Dornálaíocht taught one to use their left fist to deflect enemy blows as well as prob them for weakness. The problem was: Leonid had enough sheer mass to compensate for the traditional boxing weakness. His fists were that big. What's more, any deficit that hit the hero with age was entirely compensated for by experience. This exchange opening exchange of blows painted quite a clear picture. Farrin's strongest asset would be his reaction time.

"Haven't felt anythin' yet that-"

He hadn't been bragging, but boy, did Farrin eat his words. His left arm snapped up to intercept the lion's heavy-handed blow, but his arm was simply pushed aside. Farrin bobbed to the right to avoid any further damage, but his left arm was pulsating heat. He shook the burning sensation off best he could, stepping to the right for distance from that wrecking ball Leonid was packing. When the pulsing pain calmed, he brought the arm back up.

"Brilliant right, Leonid-sir. Absolutely brilliant."

Words from one boxer to another. He shook the arm again, then darted in once again, undeterred. Two jabs flew high, but the second proved to be a feign, Farrin would hunch low, targeting the larger target's center. This time he fired off a series of left jabs followed by a right cross. Whether blocked or avoided, Farrin would take a step back, appearing as though he would backpedal, only to step in again and launch another right for Leonid's jaw. Though the student was by no means weak, these last four years of training had to count for something, he knew he lacked the hero's immense physique. Whatever made it through the lion's defense, he had to make it count.

MISSION DESCRIPTION: Farrin and Zenkai were on their way to the zoo when a monkey that discovered a rather nasty fire quirk broke out and started letting its animal companions free. Our students had a clear objective, contain all the beasties and apprehend our fiery friend, which definitely required some effort on their part. It wasn't any more dangerous to them than a hero simulation though so nonthreatening it is!

hile Zenkai lifted up fallen trees and broken off pieces of a the enclosures, Farrin helped douse the remaining flames. A few minutes rest worked its way through both mind and body, and with one chronokinetic field, his personal one, the work was far less taxing. One of the zookeepers handed him a fire extinguishers and then he was off. One by one the fires were put out. A few had grown, threatening inferno on the zoo, but a flick of the wrist slowed the spread and made easy work of even the largest flames.

Eventually, the last of the fences were mended, ruined terrain was pushed aside leaving the zoo's many paths traversable again, and the fires were all put out. When Farrin looped back around to join Zenkai, it was with a comically loud growl of the stomach. Once that signaled his demand for nourishment, however meager.

"Well, we saw the zoo, big fella," he offered Zenkai, "but yeah, it's time fer food."

He doubled down on his earlier comment. Atrocious as this place's attempt at New York style pizza was, he want some dough with sauce and cheese on it. When the two students exited the zoo, it was to a profound lack of pizza on the ticket desk. He knew one of the escapees was likely to grab the cheesy snack and gobble it down before they finished, but one could have hoped. Fresh pizza it was.

"Tell me, lad. Can yuh convince a gorilla to arm wrestle yuh?"

A ridiculous question brought on by Zenkai's apparent ability to commune with the animal kingdom, and a conversation starter to occupy them as they went to work at round two with lunch.

ll was quiet on the temporal front. No superimposed sights, no whispers in his ear. If her home wasn't a warm, albeit perhaps dull, place housing a dull life, he would remain ignorant of it. The only temporal nudge he received was one that pushed him to continue talking no matter how much he wished only to see the job done and the two return to campus.

"Normal's no' so bad, I guess, though yer' answer begs the question, just how normal can someone who made it inta' UAU be?"

Her next words landed just as his roller pushed into a tag that said "Masters." He paused. Was it Thea's words or the tag? Many would say his life was sad. He just didn't know which life. He's under the bridge one moment, crying because he's so hungry, then he's feeling guilty because Bryant from school was calling him and his mom traitors again for housing his father, but he never went to school with Bryant. Hell, he didn't know why the kid's name was planted so firmly in his head. What was he seeing.

He pushed the roller over the Masters signature and moved on. "Eh, was always one ta' wander. Yuh' get used to it." Besides, he may not have had four walls and a roof to call his own, but he had a person, and she meant more than any home ever could. Maybe that made her his home?

"Appreciate it, though. Who knows what's ta' come."

"Help me! Somebody! Heeelp me pleass-"

Farrin turned his head from the graffiti, looking toward the front entrance. He didn't see the source of distress, courtesy of the shrine's walls, but it was clear someone was in danger.

few loose hairs were nabbed by the tranq dart that flew by Farrin's face. Zenkai's earlier warning was merited. Most people were born with certain talents. They could refine themselves and their skillset with enough effort, but everyone had something that came naturally. Shooting was not Zenkai's forte. Communicating with the animal kingdom? Sure. Genetics, likely accompanied by plenty of training, that saw him stand as a monster among men? Absolutely. But not shooting. If it were up to Farrin, the giant would never hold a gun again.

The wind whipped at the time-turner's hair as he fell from the arc of his jump. His hands reached out and just barely snatched their fiery friend out of the air. His shoulder smacked hard against the dirt and gravel, and he rolled clumsily to his side. A split second later, he popped up onto his feet and leaped up onto the enclosure wall, using one arm to pin the unconscious monkey to his shoulder and the other to climb. It still wasn't smart sticking around in Rhinotown.

A moment later, he pulled himself up and over, back onto one of the many paths that spiderwebbed the zoo. The motes of temporal flame faded, as did the crackling emerald powers, and so Farrin let himself drop, shielding the convict with his body, of course. It wasn't an "i can't stand anymore" type of collapse, but more of an "I'm lazy. This is a nice spot" situation. He had honed his body for such physical straits, but the mind was not so easily guarded against temporal sifting - not when using his quirk on the scale he had earlier.

When Zen approached on his massive steed, Farrin simply threw an arm upward, a thumbs up signaling he and the monkey were okay. "Got our little fire shitter right 'ere!" He then shouted for the zookeepers to hear. Two of them ran on over, one of them snatching the little fella up off his shoulder, the other helping Farrin to his feet.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The both of you! You have no idea how much you've helped us!"

Yeah, he had a pretty good idea, but he wasn't about to guilt them. "Think nothin' of it," he replied, then looking to Zenkai. "I think yer gonna have ta' turn yer new friend over, bud." Once Zenkai made his way off Zeus's back, all Farrin had left in him was, "c'mon. I want me' damn pizza."

h, can't say I'm entirely unfamiliar, though I've never been there meself." He hadn't been to many places. Dublin, Ireland. New York, US. Tokyo, Japan. That was about the entirety of the list. Travel doesn't rank high on one's to-do list when the sleep was quite possibly what he was doing for dinner. Farrin slept under a bridge for much of his life, not in an airplane sleep. Sometimes he hung with other unfortunates like himself; hence his slight familiarity with DR, but his knowledge of the place didn't end much further than knowing of its existence. It could get hot, had mountains and jungles, and was south of him back when he lived in NY.

"Not really. Nothin' fer' me back there anyway. All I have is 'ere."

All he needed was Sada. Everything else would sort itself out. Except it wouldn't. Not if his dreams, not if these voices in his ear rang with even the slightest modicum of truth. She'd stand by him against all he faced. Farrin knew that. But there was more to this grand equation. Something was happening inside him that he could not resolve alone. The same thing that pushed him to speak again.

"What was it like? Wherever yuh' lived, yer home, that is. Grow up somewhere nice?"

Small talk was time wasted, yet something obligated him to speak. A hook lined down his throat and pulled the words right out. He hadn't even thought, he simply knew he had to try to yank this girl's attention out of their monotonous task. That's why she was keeping to herself, right? Sheer boredom with their work?

He dipped his roller again, then turned to face the nearby street as a cyclist sped by. Something stirred again. That damn itch at the back of his head. Farrin stared blankly out into the street, searching for the pair of eyes he felt were looking back but found nothing. He itched his head with his free hand, then went back to work, listening for Thea's answer.

washed over the time-turner's mind. What fuel remained in the temporal tank wasn't being guzzled down so ferociously anymore. He could think and act with precision, unburdened by dozens of fields slowing down countless creatures. Where his fields went, his mind went, but not there was silence.

"Right then," he didn't need to understand how Zenkai got along so well with the animal kingdom, only that the elephant would continue to be of help rather than a hindrance. "I'm gonna head the little mucker off, n' catch him in one o' me fields. Dun' take long wit' yer shot, I somehow dun' think the livin' tanks are gonna appreciate me' bein' there."

With that, Farrin blasted ahead. He could speed the Zenkai and his mount up too, but that certainly set him back some mental resources again. It would do them no good if, by the time he headed the monkey off, he was too tired to throw any more fields up. Darting forward, he leaped up atop the enclosure walls their little furry, fiery friend had crossed and followed suit.

Fighting rhinos was not Farrin's idea of a good time. Normally the big fellas were friendlier than most might believe, so said the documentaries, but he was encroaching on their territory. Luckily, the mighty beasts kept their distance from the minute flames their target left behind. Farrin zigzagged between the many mounds and the flames, then sped on ahead toward their capuchin friends that were attempting to escape on the other side of the enclosure. Farrin leaped atop a small boulder, then again into the air, and with the forward flush of his hand, a field appeared just inches ahead of the troublemaker. It shouted, then leaped up right into the trap, slowing to a crawl. Now, Zenkai just needed to take his shot.

I

t certainly felt like community service. The kind high schoolers needed to graduate or that was dished out as punishment for kids caught on the wrong side of the law without actually hurting anyone. Farrin grabbed the roller, dunked it into the can of paint remover, and washed over the many obscenities dotting the side of the shrine. It was one thing to be doing this menial work in Hero Prep, but UAU? He was supposed to be battling it out with the best, not playing community outreach.

"Yuh care if I ask where yer from? What landed yuh' 'ere n' whatnot?"

Farrin tried striking up some conversation. Definitely not the norm for him, but on top of Sada and Barty's insistence, Thea felt like a liar, and that captured his attention. Whatever the truth was, it was hidden below shades and colors he couldn't name, but 'Thea' just didn't feel like her name. His suspicions were a mystery even to himself, but he heard whispers when lying down at night that spoke another name. Or, maybe he was entirely wrong. Maybe she just had a brother that 'felt,' in that sixth sense way, like she did?

"Been livin' 'ere fer' a few years now, meself, but it still doesn't feel quite like home."

Some wayward dreams didn't dictate his life. He was asking because he was curious, and definitely not because he felt some tug towards these people. More unknown variables. The lot of them. Each and every classmate that came together for a little impromptu lunch / dinner, felt like the echoes of reflection of imaginary friends from his younger years. Why? All he wanted to know was why.

For now, he would settle on that small talk, dipping the roller again and giving the shrine another swoosh of the brush. Another street name written in violet - gone. It was a shame. That one didn't look half bad. Maybe these kids would find better ways to put their talents to use, proper venues where they could reach their potential. And hopefully, they'd live long enough for it all to matter. Where the hell did that come from?

ne by one, each of Farrin's temporal fields blinked out of existence. With each fading field, another vehicle on the time-turner's mental freeway disappeared. Fewer distractions. His body protested the pursuit, but they knew what was at the heart of the chaos now. He just had to push his Chronokinetic uptime a little longer, then he could go back to his pizza and relax.

Farrin let his foot off the mental gas, slowing a measure, both for the elephant's sake and his own. "I won't be able ta' slow down that many animals at once again fer a while. We need ta' corner this thing n' make sure we nab it on our first try."

Chronokinesis made short work of active opposition. Historically, whether his opposition was strong or numerous, most fights with the time-turner ended rather swiftly. A blur in the wind and the battle was over. The prolonged use of too many fields at the same time, however, taxed him to mental poverty.

"Care ta' explain how yuh' have that thing listenin' ta yuh?"

Curiosity won out even during the oddest of times. Farrin saw a theme with Zen and his animals. There was the bear back on campus, and now this. A whole *** elephant marching forth at the student's word.

The conversation would be cut short by flying, flaming fecal matter that swooped just overhead. Well, they were definitely getting close. A few Meerkats, little bastards, sprang across the long winding path, then scurried back in the direction the students came. The zookeepers would have to tend to them and the rest of the escapees for now. The more time Farrin and Zenkai spent rounding up every animal out of its cage, the more damage their fire monkey would cause. Speaking of which, the spark of orange flames round about a rock up ahead and down another path caught the time-turner's attention. It was closing on the Rhino exhibit now.

t was for the best that Leonid kept those geopolitical thoughts to himself. Call Farrin and Englishman, and we would be stepping down into a dark, villainous timeline. Luckily, that was not the case. It was a volatile mix of excitement and anxiety that flooded his veins now. A real challenge got the blood going, but could Farrin live up to that budding reputation? Did he have what it took to become who he needed to be? Confidence and doubt made the oddest tango partners.

"Old family friends," he kept the particulars behind the relation short. The past was a beast best left in its cage. Let it loose, and it would bite you by the ankles and weigh you down for all your days. "I'm no' officially a part o' the agency, but they're watchin' out fer' me while I'm in Japan. They're good people. Helped me make me' way through Hero Prep. Wouldn't be 'ere without 'em."

He wouldn't let Barty hear that. The agency's founder and face was the hero, Pinnacle. He was a fair and decent sort, but it was Barty, an older hero that went by Kuma, that really watched out for Farrin. Silent, hardass type. A massive man that moved deceptively fast for his size. Pain in the as though he was, there was no denying Farrin wouldn't have been what he was now without the big bastard. It was time to put that training to the test.

"Sounds good ta' me, sir."

It was answer enough both to Leonid's curiosity and his warm-up proposition. Farrin's fists rose. His right was clutched close to his chest, his left pointed outward again. His feet parted to about shoulder length. Then he hopped in place once, twice, three times before settling in place.

"Yuh' ready ta' begin, sir?"

Good manners. Villainy would be profoundly lacking in such things, but this was a simple warm-up. If Leonid gave the all clear, Farrin would dart ahead at best speed, unfortunately, slowed due to a side effect of his quirk while outside of his 'temporal state,' and launch a few probing left jabs to start their warm-up off.

ho popped the bubblegum balloon in here? Farrin eyed the many flush surfaces, gear, gizmos, and appliances. A whistle was all he could muster at first, still too distracted to find the sophomore stuck mopping up the mess. His eyes locked in on the second year student

"Yeah, apparently I missed the carnival," he replied, his hand clutching the novice attempt at blueprints to shield them from any potential pink spray or whatever the heck caused the mess. "So what happened in 'ere?"

The freshmen followed the trail that led to Kei, carefully avoiding the pink substance. He nudged a small doodad aside with his shoe, then kept on his approach. "N' why're you the only one cleanin' it up? Need any help, lad? I dun' know what this stuff is, but I'm rather quick on me' feet."

Would everything be put back where it belonged? No. But Farrin could crunch an hour-long sweep of the room down to about five minutes. Besides, if this was a proper support student and not someone stuck with janitorial duties, he could be the answer to Farrin's questions. Maybe even bring his little dream project alive!

"Me name's Farrin, Farrin O'Rourke. Freshmen o' the heroics department," Farrin said, offering a hand to Kei for shaking and helping the support student up off the floor if he cared to stand.

Groups of people were a headache. A younger Farrin plotted a course between every crowd splotched across the big apple's busy streets. They were all so loud and often obnoxious. One or two people? That he could handle. This wasn't nearly as taxing as the day everyone approached him on his grassy hill in the training fields the other day. This he could do.

h Farrin was far from dead. Before the dust settled, he had vacated the area. Zen's plan was sound. They needed the assistance of the bigger beasties to get the rest in order, to herd them into one location where the zookeepers could put them to sleep - temporarily, of course. Rather than summon a multitude of fields, he'd erect one field to entrap them all. To do that, he needed better vantage point. And so, at the tail end of the stampede, the time turner could be found hanging, one-armed, from the side of giraffe's neck.

It wasn't the largest animal by mass, but the tall boy offered the time-turner all he needed. With a wave of his free hand a massive ring encircled the bulk of the parade. Opposite of him was Zenkai atop the mighty elephant, the two of them discouraging the front of the herd while Farrin's giraffe circled around the back, alongside the interior of the ring. Of course, he had no control of the thing. Chalk it up to lucky Irish nonsense. Outside the ring, the zookeepers took position with their tranquilizers. The darts would pass through the field quite slowly, but the animals had little room to maneuver.

This round went to the two UAU students. The problem: fire capuchin was still on the loose and causing problems deeper in the zoo. They could spend all day horsing around with the escapees, but until they got the keys back, or in this case put an end to the magma poop, things were only going to get worse.

"We need ta' pin down the source o' the problem!" He shouted, still not quite aware of the nature of the prison break. From the height gained by their animal companions, each of the students could hop over the temporal deceleration ring. The dotted trail of fiery turds was an obvious trail to follow. Once most of the animals within the ring laid out across the path, drowsiness and dreams taking hold of them, Farrin would leap over the ring and begin the next chase.

ood for her. Few things were so sweet as seeing the board balanced after thrashing your bullies. Justice. Revenge. Call it what you will, but when one person made it their mission to push another around, it was deserved. It was perhaps one of Farrin's lone points of pride in his life before practicing herodom that he never fell so low as to put others down. That was something Mum would've been proud of.

"Think nothin' o' it. Despite yer' admission, ya' are helpin' me as well."

It was true. Even the most experienced fighter needed to stay sharp. A skilled opponent made a far greater whetstone than his imagination and the wind. Sada and Barty pushed him to socialize, but if this turned out anything like Hero Prep, he'd make maybe one or two buddies like he had Kenta back then. Speaking of which, where was the gelatinous lad? He made it into UAU, too! Questions for a later time.

Farrin firmed his stance. The usual business. Dornálaíocht. His feet were shoulder's distance apart, the right foot back a couple of steps, narrowing his profile. Left fist forward, right tucked to the chest. People meme'd on it to this day, but those people clearly hadn't felt a proper, ungloved right cross to the jaw.

"Yuh ready?" He asked, watching the fox take her own form.

Though he assumed she was, he'd wait for her reply. Seemed the right thing to do. Once she confirmed, though, he'd dart forward and throw a few light jabs her way to kick things off. He believed her combative resume, but best to start things easy - just in case.
