The alley was someplace Mark didn't want to be, but he had to be cautious. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, as they say. At the very least there was a dumpster he could duck behind if he needed to. Assuming Retsu hadn't already ran away. He still had to assess the damage, as his little jury rigged device was not exactly kosher, but assuming Retsu was going to make a getaway she would have to let her hostage go. With everyone scattering, collateral would be at a minimum. What he wasn't anticipating was Retsu coming down this way to extract revenge. He heard something muffled near the front, and he brought his gun up in preparation. While this wasn't new territory, the pucker factor was slowly scaling up which meant he had to finish things soon. The problem was, he wasn't expecting another grenade. That was, of course, on him, considering he already experienced one. He didn't know what kind it was, but what he did know is if it went off with him out in the open he was as good as dead. Even with the injured leg he moved forward, bringing a leg back and kicking the deadly egg away from him. Only...wait, why did that look like a cylinder? He barely turned his head before it went off, diving to the side as he brought his gun up. He couldn't tell if it went sailing as far as he wanted it, the bang was thankfully not close enough to totally disorient him. His retinas were thoroughly fried though; he just had to hope the lead slinging would be delayed enough for him to regain a sight picture. Bakiri Retsu,

"That's good to hear. That said, I have a few techniques that can be used to help tamp down some measurements if you need it." He indicated one set of notes he had, sighing. "Something I can't use readily is my sawed-off. It'd be a nightmare to get approved, and a waste of money to just have something custom built. It's what I used to use rock salt in. Since we're adapting it for a pistol, might be best to run some tests before we go shoving rounds in." But it was the basics that would no doubt be useful for her down the road. He was sure she'd appreciate it on down the line. "Got any burning questions for me? Need a few more things before we get it underway?"Tabitha Yamamura

Blowing stuff up, huh? Guess he could share his ace up his sleeve. Later, though. For now... "Kid, you're the one who jumped into the fight without considering other variables. For instance, the box at your feet..." It was a means to make Kenta look down, and once he did he'd send a few more shots of salt at the trainee. An opening that he was sure Vox could easily take advantage of. Assuming he didn't get captured. "Think you can take it from here, 'Pest'? I've got another round of deliveries to make, and with whats-his-name trying to make this place look like No Man's Land I have to show him how its done." Part of it was teamwork, part of it was delegation, part of it was sheer boredom. Mark hated confrontation on the job, and this would make his life infinitely easier if he didn't have to directly join in on the fight. Muruyama Kenta, Ryota Hada,

Dammit! His shot hit home, but things were now more complicated than they were before. Hostage situations were something he wasn't particularly good at, unless his goal was to shoot first and ask questions later. It involved careful planning, forethought, and a great quickdraw to win that over. Retsu was a loose cannon, unpredictable, and liable to do something he didn't want if he didn't back off. While he had a shot on Retsu, it was something he could only take in the best of circumstances. Looking down, he noticed the blood on his leg and the pain began to set in, and to make matters worse he was on the ground. Far from ideal. So he had no choice but to let her go. He holstered his weapons, wincing as he reached behind the counter to grab a (presumably) clean rag, and by the time he finished tying it around his leg he heard the explosion outside. "Plan B it is," he muttered, hobbling to a side door to let himself out. The Carry was once again in his hand, keeping the big iron put away as he began to scan the surroundings. The bike made a pretty decent bang, now all there was left to do was to find Retsu, dead or alive. "Not too late to turn yourself in," he called out, cautiously advancing. He was trying to keep cover within arms distance in case he had to duck behind it. "Last thing either of us want is hole in yer head. Honestly, would ruin the whole, 'badass bitch' look ya got going on." Bakiri Retsu,

He smirked, deciding to take the lead. "<I might know a few places. C'mon, I'll show you one I'm fond of 'round here.>"Was he asking her out on a date? Maybe. He didn't anticipate this working out in the long term; it never did. But something for a few nights wasn't all that bad, he figured. "<We can talk about some kind of arrangement if you want. Mark turned to look at "Pest", reaching into his jacket to pull out a flask. Granted, all that was in it was cold coffee as he didn't think he could get away with actually drinking on the job, but still it didn't give a good look. "'Preciated," he says, opening it up and taking a swig. "Though you might want to curb the enthusiasm just a bit. We're the bad guys."He looked at the rabbit, frowning a bit as he turned back towards his work. "Just kick it really hard," he says, putting the flask away as he jabbed the screwdriver into the closest seam of the ATM. "What was his name...Playboy? Think that's one of his. Probably acting as a scout or something. Blinding it is well and good, but you might be better off destroying it entirely."Mark would be content to pry away at this device, especially with the bunny biting Ryota and the only other threat gone. That was, until Kenta flung himself at him. Which, in turn, would get the screwdriver in his hands flung up at Kenta. It was 100% dangerous and could poke an eye out, but Mark was nothing but shrewd when it came to this hero course stuff. That and he was getting out of the way. He knew enough about the student to know that he was one of the more capable students when it came to maneuvering in 3D, so on top of the screwdriver he drew The Carry and opened up with three rock salt rounds, each one no doubt stinging any bare skin surface that Kenta had. "Seriously, the one time everyone goes after the maintenance guy and it's today?" The first man that Mark nailed would slowly get to his feet, a friend starting to come around to check on him. Mark continued to march Sinbad forward, gun pointed back as he lined up his shot. "You can leave them alone, you know!" Mark considered this for a moment. He did just wound one of them. He might feel the paint and start to panic; he was shot, and bleeding. This wasn't true, of course, and he did use a special paint that was hard to scrub off and easy to track. He could let the three of them panic and scramble away. Of course, what he expected them to do was to charge at him guns blazing, and then he'd be in some real trouble. Yeah, better to just nip this in the bud now. He fired off two more shots, the first man going down again and screaming while his friend grabbed his arm, slipping back behind the building. "Liability. Better this way." He'd move out into view of Iphi, or at least as well as he could be in the low light. He'd catch sight of her restraining the men by the doorway, calling out. "Leave 'em. I'm parked not far from here. Gave the rest something to think about." And so he'd move over to the Caddy, not far away and popping the trunk. He reached in, grabbing a few ziptie restraints and taking Sinbad's arms. "We're gonna go on a little trip." "Of to see your mother?" He winced as the restraints were clamped on tighter than they should be. "This ain't a cop car, so you'll have to make do in the trunk.""Wait a minute, I have rights-!" With many a protest Mark threw him in the back, slamming the trunk shut on him. "Wasn't expecting the plan go fubar like that," he says, sighing as he went to the drivers side. "Let's get out before the rest get wiser." The moment he cranked up the car the radio started blaring, an old song coming on as Mark muttered several curses about "that damn deliquent" as he shut the thing off entirely. "This a bad time to ask for your help regarding something completely different? I'd give you the details, but I've got to worry about this ring first." Iphigenia Pavlina,

Mark slowly made his way forward, keeping both guns trained on the table as he tried to think of a backup plan. Sure, there was his little booby trap outside, but with people filing out at a high rate he couldn't open up as he liked. Well, he could with the Carry as that was nonlethal, but he didn't need the media breathing down his neck. "Yer paranoia is charming," he says, a little of his drawl coming out again. "Ya waste too many bullets, though. I cain't imagine what ammo costs would be with ya." He stopped a good distance away from the table, a frown on his lips. "I would, but you literally threw a grenade at me. Which, gotta say, is a first. Most women here that I flirt with are more likely to give me the cold shoulder. Still processing that, ain't sure if you like me enough that you don't want another woman to take her shot, or if you despite me enough that you don't want my next of kin to find the pieces." The pin caught his attention, initially thinking she was intending on moving out for a fair fight. This made him spread his arms out to cover either end as his own wily nature told him not to trust it; unfortunately, he as now in a bind. If she had gone left like he saw the pin do, the Carry would be free to let loose and he'd end up pumping several thousand volts into Retsu's body, immobilizing her and not have to worry about hitting anyone else. However, she popped up on the other side where the Wayward Son was, complicating things; 45 caliber was enough to take down a cow in a single shot (that's why it's called ACP; Anti-Cow Projectile), and the hole he'd make in her would be enough to stop the fight right here and now. But like he said earlier, he didn't want to bring her in dead. While she was threat enough to do so, there was one little problem: there were too many people behind her. There was a good shot lined up, but there was no telling if the round would keep going and hit someone else. It was a risk he couldn't take. That moment of hesitation forced him to dive for cover as she opened up on him. His leg wasn't responding like he wanted, and he felt the wind as several bullets flew past him. It did give him a moment to line up the Carry one good time and squeeze off a shot, one that would zap her good to make her regret her decision to run. Maybe not enough to incapacitate her, but it could slow her down...assuming he didn't screw up his sights. Bakiri Retsu,

Ah, now she was speaking his language! "Dunno what you're talkin' about, we're just tryin' to lead it away from people! Not our fault it got stuck!" Plausible deniability. Mostly. It wasn't foolproof, but it'd get the job done. While the buckshot was leaving marks on the beast, it wasn't deep enough to cause major injury. The most damage he'd find in shooting at it was he could keep the tendrils from doing any major damage to them. But once they got to the boardwalk, that's when things had to be done swiftly. It was possible to keep collateral down, but he had to act and fast. "Keep it there, best you can! I'll try to make this quick!" It was something he wasn't keen on doing; it relied on another person. It put someone else at risk for one of his stupid plans. So he couldn't dally, he had to act now.He ran up the steps, immediately looking around. He'd right away find a hotdog stand, and attached to it a propane tank. Not ideal, but good enough! He'd first unhook the thing, shaking it a little to gauge how full it was. It was at a little more than half, but it'd have to do. He'd find it in the nick of time as a tendril smashed through the panels, which was convenient as he didn't have to try and sling it up and over into the orifice at the top. He'd peek down ever so slightly, blow away an extra wooden panel to give the cannister enough space to drop, and then he slung down the tank. It wouldn't do any damage, and Mark wasn't counting on it. However, he'd draw the big iron and put a round into the tank before it vanished into the starfish. The resulting explosion rocked the boardwalk, splitting the creature open and nearly taking out Mark in the process as the valve flew up back at him, grazing his head and allowing a few curses in English. "Glepnir, tell me that thing's dyin'!" While it wasn't exactly dead, its insides were definitely exposed. And because it was in a lot of pain, it was more focused on escaping than it was on either Mark or Sadako. Sadako Gotoh

"Kei, no one wants to witness you bicker with your woman," Mark says, delivering a few more stun rounds to a few enterprising arms before backing up towards Iphi and the keyholder. The ensuing feeling of the void, followed by what he perceived as a sudden stop, made him question his life choices up to this point. "What do you mean, it's not supposed to do that?"The appearance of the eyes, the Master of the realm, startled him. Mark was a nobody, someone who took down petty crooks as he worked his way onto his real goal. This... thing was not something he signed up for. What was a guy with a gun supposed to do against an eldritch being? At the very least, it wasn't intending to fight them...for now. It was ominous, and for once he didn't have a witty quip. One thing was certain, though. He needed a bigger gun. Kei Hada, Fanthes, lonewolf, Iphigenia Pavlina, tl;dr: -Mark questions his life's choices

Lone Wolf could in fact be a team player. Keyword, 'could'. While he was hooked up to comms and was supposed to be coordinated into attacks and the such, his heart wasn't into it. Which was a shame, since he was all on board for making students' lives difficult. After Dream World, however, he was not up to his own standards. He had been coming in later with all the physical signs of hangover, and had even developed five o'clock shadow. That wasn't to say he wasn't doing his job, as he was running all the same scenarios, but he did seem like he was on autopilot. If Supernova hadn't twisted his arm he probably wouldn't have participated in this exercise. Instead of openly causing problems for students, he decided to take a more subtle approach. With a bag full of improvised devices and the other instructors causing mayhem on their own, Mark had taken it unto himself to wander into empty buildings and setting explosives in place. They'd all have timers on them, with a "deadman's switch" of sort wired in as well, but that was his leverage for after he got caught. Upon finding a faux ATM Mark decided to give in to that little voice in his head to always wreck one and steal whatever he could; obviously nothing of real value was in it, but it was the thought that counted. He had begun to pull out a screwdriver when another student called out, holding a hand out in order to stop him. "Maintenance guy," he says, not even bothering to turn around. "Got a call that someone had been tampering with this. Think its scammers again." This cover story was highly unlikely to any sane person, and even less so in this scenario since technically there was only heroes and villains. Man had to try, though. He shrugged a little, ready to take on the job. "First impressions mean a little too much, but not a lot that I can change there. We'll have to talk more when we don't have monsters bearing down on us." Which was a little too amusing as he didn't talk with many people outside of work. It was either interactions in the halls or something official, sometimes both. Like today. As he slammed a few more shells into the gun he'd begin to backpedal, looking around. "I wish! Have a box of dragon's breath, but that's more of a sparkler than anything else!" He'd duck and weave through some of the tendrils, taking note of the pier not far away. "I know we're supposed to keep collateral down, but I've noticed that things get built much more quickly here than home! How 'bout we trap this thing and figure out a plan from there?" He indicated the underpass a little ways away, and began to move in that direction, peppering the beast with more buckshot as he began to think. Fire wasn't the best thing that could be used, but the cogs were turning. Piers had balloons, right? Sadako Gotoh

Mark held up a hand as he handed the waitress his card, smiling. "<First one's on me. It's the gentlemanly thing to do. We can talk about next time, though,>" he says, giving her a wink. The fact that she saw something like that was scary, though. It was pretty hard to imagine a bunch of clones running amuck causing who knows what damages they were causing. Not to mention how that could compound, or even if the main mind was caught. "<I can just hope that whoever has that quirk didn't use it nefariously...or even at all.>" Unlikely, but it was something he couldn't help but think about. He stood up with her once the bill was paid, looking over at her as he tilted his head. "<Well, I was going to base that on what you were doing after this,>" he says, giving her a smile. "<Could stay out a little longer, or if you want me to can always walk you back to your place. Up to you, though.~>"Kokoro
