round beta was blistering with heat. In some spots, the mock metropolis was seared and slagged with damage. SuperNova, the hero professor leading the exercise wasn't kidding around this time. He and a few other professors were simulating a wide-scale attack on the city, with themselves playing the villains. Fun stuff.

Farrin sped between buildings, then launched himself into one of the wrecked storefronts lining the ground's many buildings. Each breath was calm and controlled. Ruby eyes peered beyond the relative safety of his temporary post, scanning the street for any pursers. Quite a few of the school's professors were partaking in this assignment. He wasn't familiar with all their quirks. Too many unknown variables to be comfortable with, so he held his position for a moment. 

It was up to students of all grades to work together and detain as many "villains" as possible within the one-hour time limit. The students, however, were operating as if the attack had just begun, so they were spread out at the start as if to simulate the chaos of such an attack, highlighting the need to find one another to coordinate rather than act as a team right off the bat. Personal equipment was allowed, but comms weren't allowed. Of course, this all meant several "heroes" numbering the student team were taken out in the first few minutes alone. Not a single professor / villain had been apprehended yet as far as Farrin knew. The longer the students ran around independently, the more difficult the assignment would be with each of them being picked off. Problems stacked on problems stacked on more problems. 

"Alrighty, can't keep still forever," Farrin muttered. 

He withheld his quirk for now and opted to move at slow-mo Joe speeds, running out of the store and down the block. He would need to reserve his strength. At this point, Farrin could trade blows with the best of them, but many of UAU's professors ranked better than the best. They were that good. Teammates or no, he would need everything he had to scrap around with the likes of them. For now, though, priority one was rallying some of his peers. The lone wolf bs wouldn't cut it out here. Not with enemies of this caliber.

''I wish I could sit this one out.'' She sighed, taking a swig of her energy drink before the chaos was about to go down. ''Don't get me wrong, I want the best for the students too, but playing a villain?'' She looked over at her best friend and colleague Iphigenia. ''It's a bit cruel, isn't it? I'm the guidance counselor, I don't want the students to be afraid of me.'' Despite her worries she was all smiles and ready to go. Unlike some of the other teachers she wasn't always actively involved with combat exercises like this one. Most of the fighting she did was on the streets of Tokyo and it was usually with her life on the line.

''If my acting is too scary, you'll tell me won't you, Iphi?''

When the exercise finally began it was like a switch flipped as she charged forward and went into work mode. Well, at least on the outside. She was a capture specialist hero by trade, and so focused on ending fights quickly, immobilizing students for the other villains to more easily finish off. She wasn't bad at appearing cold and distant, but in reality she was suppressing the urge to check in with each one of her victims, wanting to ensure that they were okay, that the chains weren't wrapped around them too tightly, reassure them that they were doing a great job and so on.

Deciding she could afford to slow down, Sadako casually strolled around the corner when she bumped into Farrin of all people. ''Oh my, it's Oberon!'' She beamed, having decided to use the students' hero names for this exercise to add to the immersion. Hoping to catch him off guard she immediately conjured up a chain and threw it at his neck. Out of all the students she could have encountered it was Farrin O'Rourke. His reputation in close quarters combat spoke for itself, and while she was confident in her own abilities, she also knew fighting him for too long was a losing game. ''You had best surrender hero, you're surrounded on all sides.'' Okay, maybe not all sides, but she knew Iphigenia was around here somewhere waiting to back her up.

"You know, Sada, you don't have to participate; you've been working really hard lately." Iphi was clearly referring to the fallout from Dream World and the irony wasn't lost on her that she was the one telling someone they were working too hard. After all, Iphi had recently gone through a bit of a crisis of her own and spent more than a few days actually consulting Sadako professionally for help to cope. Living without her quirk was hard, and yet...easy? All it ended up doing was confusing her and made her reevaluate how much she had actually grown. She thought she was at the end of her journey and it was time to pass on her knowledge to the next generation, turns out she had much more to learn herself.

When the opportunity came up to pit them against students Iphi volunteered, her motivation now being split between selflessness and selfishness. She needed to do more and be more prepared; what better way to do that than an exercise in which they were the villains? She would play her part by putting on a new outfit befitting a villain with an emphasis on red and a mask to make herself more imposing. Rising to her feet, she patted Sadako on the shoulder supportively. "I don't think you'll need to worry about that. They'll probably be more concerned with all of this." she'd gestured to her outfit, and its blood-themed color. "I'll follow behind and support you if needed. Normally, we'd have a backup already in place, but I'm not sure where Lonewolf or Vox went off to, and Stronghold said she would rather fight by herself."

As she stayed a decent distance behind Sadako, she'd find a good vantage point, and upon hearing "Oberon," she hit her communicator. "Oberon has Chronokinesis. He can create temporal fields to slow and speed up the flow of time which affects things within the radius. If we keep our distance and you use your chains, he won't be able to fight us at full strength simultaneously." She'd look to her left and spot another hero about to take on another group of students, "Overheat." She would address the pro hero: "Thunderclap can generate electrical currents with their palms when they rub them together, and Cricket can replicate and amplify sounds. If you can keep them on the defensive you'll have no problem." Iphi would continue coordinating as much as possible from her vantage point. The benefit of having a quirk that lets you store and recall any information meant that as long as there was a file on the student, she would know almost everything about their abilities and would be able to communicate as much.

Lone Wolf could in fact be a team player.

Keyword, 'could'.

While he was hooked up to comms and was supposed to be coordinated into attacks and the such, his heart wasn't into it. Which was a shame, since he was all on board for making students' lives difficult. After Dream World, however, he was not up to his own standards. He had been coming in later with all the physical signs of hangover, and had even developed five o'clock shadow. That wasn't to say he wasn't doing his job, as he was running all the same scenarios, but he did seem like he was on autopilot. If Supernova hadn't twisted his arm he probably wouldn't have participated in this exercise.

Instead of openly causing problems for students, he decided to take a more subtle approach. With a bag full of improvised devices and the other instructors causing mayhem on their own, Mark had taken it unto himself to wander into empty buildings and setting explosives in place. They'd all have timers on them, with a "deadman's switch" of sort wired in as well, but that was his leverage for after he got caught.

Upon finding a faux ATM Mark decided to give in to that little voice in his head to always wreck one and steal whatever he could; obviously nothing of real value was in it, but it was the thought that counted. He had begun to pull out a screwdriver when another student called out, holding a hand out in order to stop him. "Maintenance guy," he says, not even bothering to turn around. "Got a call that someone had been tampering with this. Think its scammers again." This cover story was highly unlikely to any sane person, and even less so in this scenario since technically there was only heroes and villains. Man had to try, though.

When a man kills your parents you learn everything about them from the details of their arrest to the length of their sentence. Make no mistake... The screams still pierce my ears as Morgana’s blood drips down my lips. But I was a child and missing crucial context such as the fact, that Balor killed his wife in front of me. Or that he had a child who would later attend UA University.

If it were up to me, I would have avoided him for both of our sakes. I’m not one to blame a son for the sins of the father but I’m not interested in burying the hatchet either. The less I interact with him the better… but a morbid curiosity festers in my gut. It’s the type of feeling that distinguishes the courageous from the cowardly. My synapses burn as my body begs to run — this is a lost cause.

We’re outnumbered. And I don’t have the slightest clue what the teachers — villains — are capable of. Moments like these define the kind of hero you are; the hero you will become.

I will be strong.

She’s operating a distance for a reason. And when she speaks into her radio the other acts. They’re working in tandem. And if I can get ahold of the radio, I can intercept their comms. I’ve sent a few Dust Bunnies within the area. They will detonate under one of two conditions. They will sacrifice themselves to protect another hero or explode when they find the base of operations.

A bunny finds maintenance at an ATM as my fist found itself inches from Iphi’s face.

How long had it been? It felt like forever since she had been part of UAU training exercises, so when the school gave her the offer to come in she was more than happy to accept. The last year had been completely insane, so it was no wonder UAU was going all out and even bringing in heroes from outside to help teach and prepare the students for the worst. She wondered how she would have acted in their shoes, if she had been a student herself during the Elemental attacks, or the Dream World disaster.

Moments before Playboy's fist could hit Iphi's face, an arm grew out of her cloak and deflected the strike. ''Think ya could outsmart the villains do ya?!'' Having been disguised as Iphigenia's cloak all along, a woman wearing a red dress and matching masquerade mask emerged in its place. She couldn't help but smile, not only because of the thrill of the fight, but because she was proud this one had decided to go for a more strategic target and not just rush the first teacher they came across. ''Ah like heroes like ya! Ya make bein' evil all the more fun!'' She raised her fists and stepped forward, refraining from using her quirk any further for the time being as she threw a normal jab at Playboy, intending to test him so she knew how much power to apply.

[attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun was not entirely sure how to feel about this exercise as a whole. She was still grappling with some things that transpired during the events of Dreamworld, not to mention a few other issues that she'd rather not go on record stating, and this whole attack was what she could only assume brought on by what they just experienced. Either that, or the long night of terror a little while back. What the students needed was an edge. They were all uncoordinated and scrambling to do what needed to be done. While admirable, it was inefficient. What they needed was a little cover from above in order to work effectively and efficiently. She hadn't run into other students just yet, but maybe getting some height could help. And boy, was she surprised to discover something incredible once she was above the chaos! The one thing she wasn't too surprised about was finding Recall on the rooftops. Jun knew she was capable in a fight and could be quite scary, but her true strengths lay in her ability to take in and disseminate information. It was so incredible that Jun was jealous. What she was surprised about, however, was that there was another student up top attempting, what she could only guess, to reclaim rooftop superiority for the student's side, and Apparel. In a manner, Jun felt bad because she hadn't been talking with Kazashi like she used to, but to be fair the two of them had been busy, Jun with finals and getting in trouble and starting an internship, and Kaz with having two kids. If anything, this was a good way to catch up with her. Sorta. A small rigging set would be materialized through her rings, along with two miniature destroyer guns that she immediately aimed and fired a small volley at the trio. The first intent was to put Kaz on the defensive and get the other student's attention (What was his name again?), while the other was to bracket Recall and force her to reconsider her position. "Sorry for butting in, but we're taking control of the skies," she says, a good rooftop away as she tried to figure out the best way to go about this encounter. "I'd suggest surrendering. With sword in hand Mai had been flitting from rooftop to rooftop, ambushing whichever student she came across and engaging in hit-and-run tactics wherever she could. Upon spotting Playboy and Mood Ring facing off with Recall and Apparel she nodded in approval. A fair fight such as this would provide an excellent opportunity for growth. Her steps stuttered as she came to a realization. They were supposed to be villains. Villains didn't fight fair! With a shouted war cry Mai leapt into the fight.

"Muhaha! Rue the day you crossed the Blazing Djinn!"



Holding her blunted ornamental sword in a reverse grip -for only villains would do such an illogical thing- Mai rushed towards Mood Ring's side, leaping from the rooftop next to the one she was standing upon to attempt a slash at the student, forcing her to either turn her guns away from the ongoing melee and face her or be forced to fend her off quirkless. Either way Mai did not stick around to check long enough, zig-zagging to avoid potential shots both on the way there and retaliation as she swept past Mood Ring and leapt from the rooftop. With a subtle nod towards Gleipnir on the way down to get her intentions across she span in a summersault with her sword over her head, plunging down right at Oberon.

"Face the wrath of the Blazing Djinn, do-gooder!"

ot the kind of counseling Farrin had expected, but he welcomed the challenge all the same. "Dun' go thinkin' it'll be that easy, Ms. Goto- I mean, Gleipnir!" Farrin's left arm rose to meet the chain, which wrapped tightly around his wrist. His eyes glowed with golden dials of time. But there was more. This was his element. He wore that proudly. Confidence gleaned bright and bold in that temporal stare and was framed by a growing smirk. 

"Then this might jus' be fair!" Farrin shot back.

His right arm snapped up, aligned with Ms. Gotoh's legs. A short barrel extended from the wrist of his glove, and he fired two stun rounds. Zero hesitation. This was his life. Countless hours spent training, the city-wide villain attack some months ago, fish monsters rising from the depths, the dream world incident, Ouroboros. He was forged into a machine, into this thing that had no choice but to give his all, into Oberon. 

Farrin grabbed at Ms. Gotoh's chain with the hand of his restrained arm, tensed the muscles, and yanked the chain upward on an intercept course with Professor Mai. If she had been caught by the stun rounds, great. The maneuver would be far more manageable. If not, well, he could pull while she dodged and expose her weaker footing. No guarantees, but nothing ventured, nothing gained! 

"Oberon!" A familiar voice shouted. Hiroshi Suzuki, had to be. He was one of the lads Farrin sparred with often- had a quirk that grew extra layers of bone atop his arms that would form into incredibly sharp blades. "We're coming!" And that was Fukisaki. His was an emitter quirk that formed these odd wind bombs that released an incredible amount of force upon detonation. They couldn't be far behind him. A block away, two at most. Together, they would-  

"NOT SO FAST, HEROES!" 

"Oh shite," Farrin cursed, his eyes never leaving Ms. Gotoh regardless of how his plan played out.

Though Farrin didn't see it, he sure felt it- a ray of light that collided with one of the buildings just a short way behind him. That light radiated and reflected off all the nearby windows and glass, and was followed swiftly by an explosion which rained debris onto the streets below. 

 

SuperNova. Hopefully the other students could keep him busy. Farrin would back them up when possible, but right now there was enough going on ahead of Farrin. He didn't need to be looking back. Always forward. Always ahead.

One more voice piped up in the comms, question spoken amicably despite the circumstances. "I know we're sticking with hero aliases to make all the names easier to remember, but has anyone thought of alternatives for their evil persona? I might go with Pest. Blazing Djinn is so good by the way!" In truth, perhaps he shouldn't be so lighthearted with the exercises what with all the crises that occurred in quick succession. Tokyo had been terrorized as of late and the heroes were succumbing to the effects constantly fighting it off. Despite everything however they were here preparing the students for other challenges they may - no, will - face in the future.

That tenacity was why Ryota loved working alongside other heroes.

One such hero - wait, villain, he kept getting it mixed up - was in need of his aid! And with the debris coming down thanks to the ever explosive SuperNova, he knew exactly what to do!

With his flashy red armour replaced with something more subdued, Ryota blended with his surroundings just a little better, which let him bound towards the student harassing Lone Wolf before deflecting fallen concrete their way. Having successfully pushed them back, he stood proudly by his compatriot despite the pose clashing with his loose attire, hands on his hips as he laughed. "Lone Wolf! I've rid you of the current threat! You need not worry about defending yourself on your own, for I will fight alongside you!"

He turned around to face the chaos surrounding them. "Now I'm sure you have some ace up your sleeve to stay away from the action as you are, but we should engage these students eventu-- ohmygodisthatabunny??"

Ryota immediately lost his thought to crouch down in front of the creature, voice light in wonder. "Who do you belong to?" He swivelled his head but he saw no one else approach the pair. His focus returned to the rabbit. "Now I do not remember anyone on our side with a rabbit companion, so most likely a student owns you. Meaning we're opponents unfortunately. So! I must disable you, at least temporarily." With a lift of his finger, he aimed to poke the rabbit on its forehead.

OOC: Ryota sends fallen debris towards the student that's bothering Lone Wolf, cementing his place as his Baddie Buddy^TM. While suggesting they fight the students directly, he spots a bunny and tries to blind it with his quirk.

Threads shifted and I thought it was part of Iphi’s defense system. When you operate a range the obvious counterplay is to close in. Anyone worth their salt will find an opening and apply pressure — you have one of two answers. You focus on your ability to soak damage or to avoid it altogether. Having gotten inches from her face, I thought her the former. I’d figure out the limits of her defense and dismantle it.

What I didn’t expect was a human shield. Instead of slowing herself down with the weight of armor or the maintenance of highly sophisticated gear, their cohort acted in their stead. They intercept my attack and I disengage — all I need is a step back to ensure they don’t grab me.

As long as I’m mobile, I’ll have the advantage.

Her bias reveals itself. She tests the waters because she’s not trying to kill me, unlike an actual villain. I don’t care if she’s a professional; the circumstances demand force.

She lobs a jab and I fake a counter hit, a black bunny with blue eyes jumps from my skin to intercept her fist. It’s destroyed in a hit, black smoke obscuring our vision. I had shared a false intention. I was not going to counter-hit with a punch as I alluded to. Instead, I throw a low kick, hoping to make her knee buckle.

There are a few things to note amid the exchange. I received backup only for a moment before we were once again outnumbered. And somewhere in the distance, my bunny is blinded, chomping at the finger that blinded it.

Kenta was looking forward to the exercise. While he did enjoy the exhibition during the armor wars, he did feel more comfortable doing stuff with his quirk. Though he did need to poke some people about some gear in the future… now that he was getting more over the funk of the incident with the Storm guy. And this exercise seemed like a good way to let himself loose, a big ole battle Royal with students and the teachers!

The only issue was he somehow ended up on the other end of the training ground…and by somehow he meant underestimating Supernova’s abilities and being sent flying with an explosion…not his best moment for sure. At least this was happening in Beta, and if anything, he loved moving through the Urban area.

He was zipping from building to building, and soon enough he managed to find the center of Chaos. As he stuck himself to the side of a building to asses the situation, It seemed Farrin was holding the line against the teachers with some students, he could also spot Jun with someone at the top… and apparently a duo of “Villains” left to their own devices, including Lone Wolf and someone else…crouching over something

Well, guess it was time to make an entrance. He pushed a globe of his gel in front of his torso, before Pushing himself of the wall, bouncing it with some of his Gel on his feet as he flung himself towards Lone Wolf, Shouting out “DYNAGEL FROM THE TOP ROPE!” as he got closer. His plan was to slam into the Man Crossbody style and hopefully knock him down, and use the gel on his Toros to stick him to the ground. He was sure people could poke a lot of holes in that plan but they weren’t there to stop him!

Mark turned to look at "Pest", reaching into his jacket to pull out a flask. Granted, all that was in it was cold coffee as he didn't think he could get away with actually drinking on the job, but still it didn't give a good look. "'Preciated," he says, opening it up and taking a swig. "Though you might want to curb the enthusiasm just a bit. We're the bad guys."

He looked at the rabbit, frowning a bit as he turned back towards his work. "Just kick it really hard," he says, putting the flask away as he jabbed the screwdriver into the closest seam of the ATM. "What was his name...Playboy? Think that's one of his. Probably acting as a scout or something. Blinding it is well and good, but you might be better off destroying it entirely."

Mark would be content to pry away at this device, especially with the bunny biting Ryota and the only other threat gone. That was, until Kenta flung himself at him. Which, in turn, would get the screwdriver in his hands flung up at Kenta. It was 100% dangerous and could poke an eye out, but Mark was nothing but shrewd when it came to this hero course stuff. That and he was getting out of the way. He knew enough about the student to know that he was one of the more capable students when it came to maneuvering in 3D, so on top of the screwdriver he drew The Carry and opened up with three rock salt rounds, each one no doubt stinging any bare skin surface that Kenta had. "Seriously, the one time everyone goes after the maintenance guy and it's today?"

Jun was pretty confident that, between herself and the other guy, they could leverage something within the next few seconds and tip the scales in their favor. That was before Jun noticed the Djinn bearing down on her. She turned her body, and the mechanized struts her quirk created turned in time to absorb the impact of the blade. A close call for sure, but now there was a new factor she had to worry about. To make matters worse, one of her guns was out of position. Regardless, she adjusted the angle on it and fired it Iphi's way. The big thing she had to do in this moment was to at bare minimum maintain balance and keep the villains on their toes. It was highly unlikely she'd get a finishing blow in anytime soon, but she also couldn't leave another hero to the sharks. Anticipating a fight with Djinn she turned to try and at least face her with her fists, only to see that Mai had moved on. These are pros. How'd it go, old age and treachery or something like that? Regardless, Jun wasn't going to be able to retaliate against Mai now that she had moved on. Instead, she'd turn her focus to try and back the other guy up best she could. ''Chronokinesis? How scary. ~'' She muttered back into her communicator. She was thankful Iphi was here to back her up, but would it be enough? Sadako didn't excel in 1 on 1 combat, and she definitely didn't excel in fighting off more than one student at a time if more decided to join the fray. ''Shoot. Being a villain is never easy.'' She smirked as she witnessed his quirk activating. To say she was in trouble would be an understatement. If only Stronghold had bumped into Farrin first.

She could only watch as Farrin fired the two stun rounds into her leg. At this range it was too fast for her to outright dodge the rounds, but thankfully she had coated her limbs in chains beforehand, so she was able to mitigate a little bit of damage. That didn't mean it didn't hurt like hell though. ''R-Real heroes show mercy to their opponents.'' She grinned, trying to play a sympathy card. Not only because she was hoping he would let his guard down, but because actual villains might try that on him too. When Farrin yanked at her chain she simply let go with a shrug and an ''Oops!'' She had spotted Mai and hoped her colleague could sneak up on Farrin, but now that the jig was up she figured Mai could handle herself. She was still sticking to Iphi's words. Don't get too close to Farrin, and since she had just been shot in the leg too she was more than happy to stay put and prepare a counterattack.

When the explosion caused by SuperNova filled the air, Sadako used that as her cue to strike back. Conjuring up another chain, she wound it up for a bit of momentum before swinging it at Farrin's wrist, in an attempt to damage his equipment, and perhaps his ability to throw punches with that hand if she dared be so optimistic. More than anything, she wanted to put up a fight, but also wanted the students to do well, and she was having a hard time playing the role of the villain when all the students were making her so proud with their every move. Everything from successfully defending themselves, to selecting their targets carefully and communicating clearly even without devices. No one could fault her if she started tearing up later, right?
